Batting and bowling are prime skills in the game of cricket. Unlike bowling, batting takes place between a pair of two batsmen, often referred to as a partnership. If a batsman is dismissed, the pair is broken and a new partnership is formed with the next batsman. However, the different existing measures of batting performance are based on individual performances and not on the basis of partnerships. This research attempts to develop a measure to quantify the batting performance of partnerships. This unique measure takes into account not only the runs scored by the partnership, but also the match situation in which the runs are scored by the batting partners. To quantify the model, the 2016 Twenty20 World Cup played in India is considered. If the partnership scores are computed for a series of matches of a given team, then the coach can identify the partnerships that bat well under pressure. It will be helpful in determining the batting order of the team so that reasonably well played partnerships under pressure shall occur more frequently in the upcoming matches. Two models are used to predict the outcomes of matches in a Twenty20 cricket series. The success of prediction methods is hampered by the fact that if two teams play two or more matches against each other and each team wins some of the matches, such inconsistent outcomes cannot all be predicted correctly. The challenge was to find a procedure which could compensate for inconsistent results. The consistency adjusted measure of the success of prediction is defined and shown to give a fair assessment of prediction results. For the first model the success rate of 56.8% is increased to 76.4% and for the second model from 52.7% to 70.9%. A dream team in cricket is actually a fantasy team that is formed by the experts/fans/sports journalists after a tournament is over. This practice is also common in several other team sports like football, hockey, basketball, baseball, etc. In cricket, the dream team is formed from all different expertise viz. batting, bowling or wicket keeping based on the recent performance of players in the tournament. However, experts have different criteria of players' selection in the dream team. It is because the teams are subjectively selected. Therefore, it is difficult to conclude which team is the optimum one or the most balanced one out of the various proposed teams. This paper proposes an objective method of dream team selection using binary integer optimization method. Prior to the application of the optimization method, an appropriate measure is used to quantify the performance of players having different expertise. The relevant data for the study is collected from the fifth season of the IPL to demonstrate the integer optimization method. Though several statistics are used to quantify the batting and bowling performance of cricketers, there is no such measure for the fielders in cricket. This article introduces a measure that can be used to gauge the fielding performance of cricketers. The various parameters that are considered for fielding are quantified to scores based on the ball-by-ball information of a match for each fielder. Subjective weights are assigned to these parameters based on the relative importance of different alternatives under various fielding circumstances. The weights are then combined with the scores of each of the on-field performances of a fielder to get his corresponding fielding score. Two different measures of fielding performance are proposed and their relative differences are discussed. To demonstrate these measures, the final of the first Twenty20 World Cup tournament played on 24 September 2007 is considered. The outcomes obtained from the two measures are accordingly compared.
