Background: COVID-19 vaccine precaution dose has emerged as an essential tool to control the spread of COVID-19 infections worldwide. The acceptance of vaccines is influenced by various factors such as knowledge, perception of the likelihood of COVID-19 spread, vaccine safety, logistics, vaccine efficacy, and perceived risk. Aim and Objectives: This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice of COVID-19 vaccine precaution dose among health-care professionals (HCPs) at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 147 participants using a self-designed, semi-structured, and pre-validated questionnaire circulated through Google Forms to HCPs. Results: The results showed that all the participants were aware of the COVID-19 vaccine precaution dose. However, only 68.49% of the participants had received the dose. The major source of information was the World Health Organization. About 79.4% of the participants were worried about serious unknown long-term effects of the precautionary dose, but the majority were willing to take it without any hesitation. About 14.3% of the participants experienced side effects, with pain at the injection site being the most common. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that participants had a good understanding of the COVID-19 precaution dose, but their attitudes were slightly lesser compared to their knowledge, and also, there was a lot of hesitation with respect to practicing the COVID-19 vaccine precaution dose. Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has promoted an intensive investigation into the pathophysiological mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, risk factors, and its impact on disease severity. Vitamin D has generated significant attention for its potential role in viral prevention and immune defense due to its pleiotropic functions, including immunomodulation and antimicrobial effects. This study aimed to assess serum 25(OH)D3 levels in patients with COVID-19 compared to those with other viral respiratory infections and to evaluate associations of vitamin D levels with symptomatology, clinical characteristics, presence of comorbidities and laboratory investigation. Methods The study included 78 patients admitted to a hospital with COVID-19 (52 patients) or other viral respiratory infections (26 patients). Routine blood biomarkers, markers of inflammation, markers of endothelial dysfunction, serum 25(OH)D3 were analyzed, and patients were classified according to vitamin D levels and presence of comorbidities. Results Most patients had vitamin D levels <30 ng/mL and there was no significant difference in 25(OH)D3 levels between patients with and without COVID-19 (p=0.768). Aging and comorbidity prevalence were significantly increased in the COVID-19 than in the non-COVID-19 group (p<0.001; p=0.049). A significant positive correlation was determined between endocan level and serum ferritin concentration in patients with COVID-19 and vitamin D deficiency. A borderline significantly elevated NLR was observed in patients with COVID-19 who were also vitamin D deficient, compared with the similar non-COVID-19 subgroup (p=0.05). In patients with COVID-19 and insufficient vitamin D, levels of 25(OH)D negatively correlated with endocan. Interestingly, COVID-19 patients with diabetes exhibited significantly lower 25(OH)D3 levels compared to non-diabetic patients (p=0.003), along with higher ferritin levels, suggesting a potential association between vitamin D deficiency and diabetes in COVID-19. Conclusions These findings contribute to the understanding of the complex interplay between vitamin D status, comorbidities, and COVID-19 outcomes, emphasizing the need for further research to elucidate their underlying mechanisms and clinical implications. COVID-19 is putting a lot of strain on hospitals in order to stop SARS-CoV-2 from spreading. Stopping the COVID-19 outbreak requires equitable access to effective and safe COVID-19 vaccinations. The aim of this study was to study the global trend of deaths, cases, and vaccinations related to COVID-19. This was an ecological descriptive study that was conducted using publicly available data on deaths, cases, and vaccinations related to COVID-191 for the duration between February 2021 and February 2022 from the Our World in Data portal. A total of 437, 091, 587 COVID-19 cases were reported in the world until the 28th of February 2022. The prevalence rate of COVID-19 increased by 2.82-fold. The incidence rate of New COVID-19 cases increased by 4.15-fold. The overall COVID-19 mortality rate increased by 1.28-fold. The overall COVID-19 vaccination rate increased by 38.92-fold. The rate of COVID-19 vaccination increased during the study period. This was accompanied by a decrease in the rate of new COVID-19 cases and the rate of COVID-19-related mortality. Vaccination rates varied across continents and according to country income. COVID-19 vaccination must be made more acceptable by public awareness campaigns. The aim of the current study was to explore elite athletes' experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on both growth and well-being. Informed by two complementary theoretical models, this research focused on elite athletes' potential to experience growth. Five elite athletes completed the Stress-Related Growth Scale–Revised and underwent semistructured interviews to develop a narrative of their experiences. Through a thematic analysis, we articulated elite athletes' experiences of both illusory and real adversarial growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Four themes illustrated their experiences: the COVID-19 experience, searching for positives, self-transformation, and the social impact. A fifth theme, well-being, was integral throughout, involving the continued protection and development of athlete well-being. Future research recommendations and implications include further exploration of adversarial growth experiences after the pandemic and long-term effects of the pandemic on elite athletes, the creation of an adversarial growth measure, and engagement with this research to inform support measures to decrease the impact of adversity on elite athletes' well-being. Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the greatest pandemic in the world. This virus involves the respiratory system, causes pulmonary dysfunction, and causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Pulmonary dysfunction due to COVID-19 may be asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe/critical. COVID-19 may involve other organs, and its sequelae may be persistent for a long time. The pulmonary function test is a method for evaluating the lungs in people. In this study, we reviewed the results of pulmonary function test (PFT) in patients with a history of COVID-19 involvement based on previous studies. Materials and Methods: The present review was conducted in 2024 using the keywords COVID-19, pulmonary function test, recovery, and pulmonary involvement in English. Eligible articles (articles containing the mentioned keywords) published during the years 2019 to 2023 were searched in Scopus, Pubmed, Wiley, and Google Scholar international databases. Relevant articles were identified, and after review, the most important and valuable points were presented. Results: PTF should not be done during COVID-19 involvement because it increases the rate of disease transmission. Small airway dysfunction, restrictive ventilatory dysfunction, and pulmonary diffusion impairment patterns are the most common findings in the PFTs of patients with a history of COVID-19. PFT improves gradually after the recovery of pulmonary involvement of COVID-19 for two years, even in patients with severe or critical forms of COVID-19. Conclusion: In this review, we summarized the results of studies about pulmonary function tests after COVID-19 involvement in survivors. Small airway dysfunction, restrictive ventilatory dysfunction, and pulmonary diffusion impairment are the most common findings in the PFT of survivors of COVID-19. These patterns are more prevalent among patients with severe or critical forms of COVID-19, and they are associated with the risk factors of COVID-19 severity, such as age, underlying disease, and pulmonary disorders. Forced vital capacity and diffusion capacity of lungs for carbon monoxide decreased in patients with COVID-19, and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1)/FVC and residual volume (RV) increased in these patients and they were associated with COVID-19 severity. Introduction: Public awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a reduction in healthcare utilisation for other diseases. Understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic affects hospital admissions and the disease patterns is crucial for proper triaging and planning of health resources in future pandemics. Aim: To compare the clinical spectrum of paediatric inpatients in the post-COVID-19, pre-COVID-19 and during COVID-19 pandemic periods in a tertiary level teaching centre. Materials and Methods: This ambispective study was conducted at the Paediatrics Department of SAT, Govt. Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The analysis included all cases hospitalised from April 2019 to March 2022, with the data divided into three time periods. The discharge diagnoses of all cases admitted during the study period were coded according to the ICD-10 criteria and included in the analysis. Differences in admissions, disease patterns, and ICU admissions during the three time periods (pre-COVID-19, post-COVID-19, and during COVID-19) were compared using oneway ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test. Results: In the present study, ward admissions (p-value <0.001), respiratory infections (p-value 0.031), asthma (p-value 0.009), and chronic systemic diseases (p-value 0.018) decreased in the post-COVID-19 period compared to the pre-COVID-19 period, whereas ICU admissions (p-value 0.010) and Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) (p-value 0.002) increased. When comparing COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 periods, there was an increase in ward admissions (p-value 0.01), respiratory infections (p-value 0.018), and diarrhoea (p-value 0.029), but a decrease in the proportion of ICU admissions (p-value 0.01). There was no significant difference in mortality among the three time periods. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the clinical spectrum of paediatric inpatients. The significant decrease in admissions of chronic systemic diseases, which require regular follow-up for management changes, raises concerns about the potential impact on patient care. Background: The concurrence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with COVID-19 can complicate the clinical conditions of patients and affect the patterns of hospital resource utilization. This study aimed to investigate and analyze the direct treatment costs of AMI patients with concurrent COVID-19. Methods: This cross-sectional study collected and analyzed clinical data, including symptoms, readmission, and interventions, and treatment cost data for all patients at Tehran Heart Center using SPSS26 software. The mean medical costs of patients from January through May 2022 were also calculated. Results: The COVID-19 group was composed of 72.9% male and 27.1% female patients, whereas the non-COVID-19 group consisted of 67.3% male and 32.7% female patients. Most of the patients in the COVID-19 group (60%) were in the elderly age group (>65 y). The length of stay was 8.70±5.84 days for the COVID-19 group and 6.31±4.42 days for the non-COVID-19 group. The mortality rate in the COVID-19 group was 24%, higher than the 5% rate in the other group. Additionally, the average total treatment costs were $6384.54±$6760.13 in the COVID-19 group and $6362.49±$4343.07 in the non-COVID-19 group (P>0.78 and P>0.050). Conclusion: The study found that the COVID-19 group had a significantly higher in-hospital mortality rate than the non-COVID-19 group. During the follow-up period, the incidence of complications (chest pain and heart failure) was higher in the non-COVID-19 group. Data on COVID-19 cases, deaths, hospitalizations, and vaccinations in Oklahoma, USA, have not been systematically described. The relationship between vaccination and COVID-19-related outcomes over time has not been investigated. We graphically described data c ollected during February 2020-December 2021 and conducted spatiotemporal modeling of monthly increases in COVID-19 cumulative death and hospitalization rates, adjusting for cumulative case rate, to explore the relationship. A 1 percentage point increase (absolute change) in the cumulative vaccination rate was associated with a 6.3% (95% CI 1.4%-10.9%) relative decrease in death outcome during April-June 2021, and a 1.9% (95% CI 1.1%-2.6%) relative decrease in death outcome and 1.1% (95% CI 0.5%-1.7%) relative decrease in hospitalization outcome during July-December 2021; the effect on hospitalizations was driven largely by data from urban counties. Our findings from Oklahoma suggest that increasing cumulative vaccination rates might reduce the increase in cumulative death and hospitalization rates from COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted healthcare systems worldwide, causing substantial changes to routine healthcare delivery. National and international modelling studies have predicted adverse impacts of this disruption. This study aimed to assess the real-world impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on quality of care and outcomes for patients with lung cancer in New South Wales (NSW). Study type: Pre-post observational cohort study using data prospectively collected for the Embedding Research (and Evidence) in Cancer Healthcare (EnRICH) Program. Methods: The study population comprised 2000 patients with lung cancer from six specialist cancer centres in metropolitan and regional NSW. We split this population into two cohorts: the pre-COVID-19 cohort (1143 patients diagnosed from 8 September 2016 to 10 March 2020) and the post-COVID-19 cohort (857 patients diagnosed from 11 March 2020 to 28 October 2021). The main outcome measures were lung cancer clinical quality indicators, 1-year and 2-year overall survival, and patient-reported health-related quality of life and psychological distress. Results: Patient and disease characteristics (e.g. age, gender, cancer stage) were similar for the pre-and post-COVID-19 cohorts, except for histology (nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) 88% in the pre-COVID-19 cohort and 84% in the post-COVID-19 cohort; p = 0.008) and region of residence (62% and 55%, respectively, lived in metropolitan areas; p = 0.002). Compared to the pre-COVID-19 cohort, fewer patients in the post-COVID-19 cohort received a diagnosis within 28 days of the first investigation of symptoms (clinical diagnosis: 77% compared with 72%; p = 0.017, pathological diagnosis: 60% compared with 53%; p = 0.005). However, the median time from the first investigation of symptoms to treatment initiation did not differ. One- and 2-year overall survival, quality of life and psychological distress did not differ between cohorts. Conclusions: This analysis found that the COVID-19 pandemic did not significantly adversely affect quality of care and outcomes for patients with lung cancer in NSW. Reassuringly, these results suggest that prioritising urgent health services, such as cancer care and implementing protective mitigation measures were effective in avoiding the predicted adverse outcomes of healthcare service disruption. Vaccines were the most crucial factor in ending the COVID-19 pandemic. Different types of COVID-19 vaccines were administered worldwide to all ages, including pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate if different types of COVID-19 vaccines applied during pregnancy affect the "Small for Gestational Age" (SGA) incidence in a rural area of Turkey. A retrospective cohort study was performed with 146 completed pregnancies between 2021 and 2022. The health repository was scanned to obtain COVID-19 vaccination status during pregnancy, the type of COVID-19 vaccine administered and fetal birth weight. The presence of SGA was detected by using a gender-specific Fenton growth chart in newborns. We investigated the incidence of SGA for the whole study population and vaccinated group, as well as the types and trimesters of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy. There was no statistical significance between all pregnancies and vaccinated women during pregnancy in terms of SGA incidence (p>0.05). Either COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy or type of COVID-19 vaccines or trimester of application did not statistically change the incidence of SGA (p>0.05). Pregnant women are skeptical about the COVID-19 vaccine, but inactivated and mRNA COVID-19 vaccine administration during pregnancy seems safe in terms of SGA incidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
