Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a sudden halt in the academic activities of many medical professionals including burns and plastic surgery. Worldwide, this led to many societies switching over to various virtual platforms like Google Meet and Zoom for teaching and training. In India, as the other plastic surgery societies started their educational webinars, the National Academy of Burns India (NABI) also geared up for its web journey for imparting burn education to doctors and the general population., Methodology: Webinars were conducted in four series - acute burn care, post-burn reconstructions, video demonstrations of burn procedures, and research in burns. The first series included a specialist from an allied department. To reach the public and non-medical population, the burn tutorials for general awareness were live-streamed on social media, and the teaching was done in the form of a panel discussion between the speakers and moderators., Results: A total of 54 webinars including 29 for professionals and 25 for the public were conducted between October 2020 to December 2023 in four series. The participation of professionals on the virtual platform was comparable to a burns conference and an extremely encouraging response was received to the NABI tutorials conducted on social media for the public., Conclusion: NABI webinars showed that education in burns is possible on a virtual platform under special circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic and can be used as an adjunct to regular teaching and training. Objective: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Young Neurosurgeons Committee (YNC) and Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF) launched the YNC-NREF Webinar Series to provide young and aspiring neurosurgeons with timely information, education, and inspiration in the absence of in-person programming., Design: Five 90-minute Zoom webinars were evaluated, each including 1-2 keynote speakers, a panel discussion, and an audience question-and-answer section. Topics included overviews of neurosurgery, the match, subspecialties, and inspirational career stories. Optional pre- and post-webinar surveys with 11-point Likert-type scores were distributed to attendees. We compared groups using chi-squared and Kruskal-Willis tests, and perceptions pre- and post-webinar using Mann-Whitney tests., Setting: The webinars were live using Zoom, and the recordings were published on NREF's YouTube channel., Participants: The webinar series targeted young neurosurgeons. The first five episodes had a particular focus on medical students and undergraduates., Results: A total of 673 unique participants attended the webinar series; 257 (38%) and 78 (11%) attendees completed the pre- and post-webinar survey, respectively. Respondents had high baseline interest in neurosurgery and were motivated to learn about the match and training in the US, understand neurosurgeons' day-to-day lives, and ask questions. There were significant differences in perceptions between USMSs, IMSs, and undergraduate students. The webinar improved attendees' knowledge about neurosurgical specialties, the match, and US neurosurgery training., Conclusions: The YNC and NREF effectively engaged a large, diverse audience through an online webinar series, building a foundation for future virtual programming by organized neurosurgery. Background: Contact teaching was prohibited by nationwide lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scientific literature contains no concrete figures concerning e‑learning via webinars in the subject of orthopedics and trauma surgery in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic., Objective: This research study was established to collect facts and figures about webinars as a representative part of e‑learning in the subject of orthopedics and trauma surgery in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic., Material and Methods: German-speaking non-commercial and edited webinars, produced by suppliers from Germany were identified using common search engines. Structured interviews with questionnaires about provider, format, and number of participants in the webinars over time, were offered to the operating companies., Results: The study included four suppliers of webinars (AO Online Campus, BVOU Study Club, OU TO GO and WebDGU). There was approval of all operating companies to participate in the interviews and to disclose facts and figures about their webinars. All suppliers showed an increased supply and demand for webinars during the COVID-19 pandemic., Discussion: OU TO GO and BVOU Study Club already offered webinars prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. AO online Campus was designed in addition to the existing portfolio. The supply of WebDGU was newly established. Limitations of this study are the exclusion of commercial suppliers, non-German operating companies and all other types of e‑learning except webinars. Objectives: To assess technical factors and audience preferences before attending orthodontic online learning activity, the demand for which increased dramatically in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic., Design: Cross-sectional study., Setting: Online survey., Participants: Global orthodontic residents and specialists., Methods: A validated and anonymous survey comprising 17 online questions was sent to 3000 individuals. The data were collected three months later. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests were applied., Results: The participants' response rate was 19.9%, with almost equal gender participation. Most of the responders were based in Asia (51.4%). Almost half of the participants were aged 25-35 years with less than 5 years of clinical experience. Regardless of the age, gender or global distribution, 57.3% of respondents opted to share limited personal information with the host. One-third of the respondents preferred receiving webinar reminders via email, ideally a day and/or one hour before the webinar, especially being exportable to their calendars. Age played a major role in shaping this trend, as young participants favoured the one hour (1-h) pre-webinar reminder more than other age groups ( P =0.02). Receiving information about the speaker, learning outcomes and pre-webinar reading material (WRM) were preferable, particularly among young participants in comparison with the older age groups ( P <0.05). Male participants from Asia and Africa preferred to attend online lectures during the mid-evening on weekends compared with women who were in favour of early evening sessions ( P <0.05)., Conclusion: It must be borne in mind during the interpretation of the results that the data were collected during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to take into consideration the gender, age, cultural background and level of experience while setting up virtual orthodontic learning sessions. Organisers need to tailor their events to meet the needs of the attendees.

Background: Webinars offer novel educational opportunities beyond those of traditional, in-person experiences. BRAINterns is an open-access webinar-based education platform created to replace opportunities lost during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. This program previously showed the efficacy of webinars to expand access to careers in medicine, and in particular, neurosurgery. BRAINterns 2.0 was established to assess the durability of Web-based learning., Methods: A modified 4-week webinar series was held during July 2021. A retrospective exit survey was distributed to participants and responses analyzed., Results: A total of 16,045 people registered for BRAINterns 2.0, representing 103 countries. Survey responses were received from 3765 participants (23% response rate). New, first-time registrants comprised 66% of participants, with the rest being returning participants. A total of 342 students participated in a dedicated module delivered entirely in Spanish. Females represented 81% of respondents. Participants identified that desirable elements of the program were opportunities to hear from women (53%) and people of color (44%) in health care. Participants heard about the series through TikTok (n = 1251; 33%), Instagram (n = 1109; 29%), Facebook (n = 637; 17%), and word of mouth (n = 708; 19%) with assistance from an ambassador program., Conclusions: Webinar-based education programs continue to be of interest to students in an increasingly digital world. Social media, and specifically the use of educational ambassadors, are effective to improve visibility of educational programs across a diverse population of students. Introduction: The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic have necessitated the increasing use of online virtual training platforms. The objectives of the study were to assess the acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility of virtual space in strengthening the research capacity in Nigeria., Materials and Methods: Data were collected through an adapted online questionnaire from participants following a 2-day webinar. Both descriptive and inferential (bivariate and multivariate) analyses were done., Results: The findings of the study revealed that 55.2% of participants (n = 424) were males and 66.0% (n = 424) were early career researchers. Two hundred and thirty-six participants (55.7%) (n = 424) reported very good acceptability, 67.9% (n = 424) reported very good appropriateness while 54.7% (n = 424) reported good feasibility of webinar for research capacity strengthening. The rating of knowledge obtained from the webinar as 'excellent' increased the odds of acceptability (odd ratio [OR] = 38.30; P < 0.001), appropriateness (OR = 15.65; P < 0.05), and feasibility (OR = 20.85; P < 0.05). Furthermore, the preference for zoom and other online platforms for learning increased odds of acceptability of the webinar (OR = 2.29; confidence interval [CI]: 0.97-57.39; P < 0.05), appropriateness (OR = 2.55; CI: 1.10-5.91; P < 0.05) and feasibility (OR = 2.34; CI: 0.96-5.74; P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The study concluded that webinar was acceptable, appropriate and feasible for strengthening research capacity, although poor internet connectivity and cost of data were the major challenges in Nigeria. However, a learner-centred approach in contents' delivery that ensures optimal learning has the potential of enhancing research capacity strengthening via virtual space., Competing Interests: None

Background: The summer semester 2020, had to be restructured due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the associated contact restrictions. Here, for the first time, the established lectures in lecture halls and small group seminars could not be conducted in presence as usual. A possible tool for the implementation of medical teaching, offers the use of eLearning, online webinars and learning platforms. At present it is unclear how the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic will affect surgical teaching, how digitization will be accepted by students, and how virtual teaching can be expanded in the future., Methods: The teaching, which was previously delivered purely through face-to-face lectures, was completely converted to digital media. For this purpose, all lectures were recorded and were available to students on demand. The seminars were held as a twice a week occurring online webinar. The block internship was also conducted as a daily online webinar and concluded with an online exam at the end. At the end of the semester, a survey of the students was carried out, which was answered by n = 192 students with an anonymized questionnaire. The questionnaire inquires about the previous and current experience with eLearning, as well as the possibility of a further development towards a purely digital university., Results: There were n = 192 students in the study population. For 88%, the conversion of classes to web-based lectures represented their first eLearning experience. For 77% of all students, the digitization of teaching led to a change in the way they prepare for class. 73% of the participating students are of the opinion that eLearning lectures should continue to be offered. 54% of the students felt that eLearning lectures made more sense than face-to-face lectures. A purely virtual university could be imagined by 41% of the students., Conclusion: The conversion of teaching represented the first contact with eLearning for most students. Overall, the eLearning offering was experienced as positive. Due to the new teaching structure, the way of learning had already changed during the semester. Based on the new eLearning content, the already existing formats can be further expanded in the future. Nevertheless, it turned out that the practical-surgical contents and skills cannot be adequately represented by purely online offers; for this, the development of hybrid practice-oriented teaching concepts is necessary., (© 2022. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought about many changes in the relationships between high-income countries and partner organisations in low- or low-middle-income countries, such as predominate in sub-Saharan Africa. Medicine, surgery and in particular urology is no exception to the changes that COVID-19 has demanded. Urolink represents the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) on the global urology stage and has been deleteriously impacted by the pandemic. Education, one of the pillars of Urolink's founding philosophies, has conventionally been delivered by face-to face teaching, training, or mentoring by UK urologists at their host's site outside of the UK. As a consequence of the inability to travel due to the pandemic, BAUS Urolink has evolved a virtual on-line webinar package evolved by, and delivered between, urologists in Lusaka, Zambia, and various centres in the UK. The aim was to deliver curricular-based educational topics to trainees in both countries. This programme has generated a number of live webinars and archived recordings during the pandemic that has proven accessible and educationally acceptable to trainees in the UK and Zambia. This webinar series has also generated relationships between young urologists on different continents, given each a different view of healthcare delivery outside of their country of origin at no appreciable cost, and would appear to be an educational mechanism that is durable for, and applicable to, a wider participation in the post-pandemic world., (© 2022 The Authors BJU International © 2022 BJU International.)

It is essential for oncology pharmacists to update their knowledge, skills, and ethical attitudes. The Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Oncology is an academic society for healthcare professionals involved in cancer treatment. It has conducted in-person seminars every year to cultivate the knowledge necessary for practicing advanced cancer medicine. Owing to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the society was obligated to conduct a web-based seminar this year. A questionnaire survey was conducted before and after the webinar to explain how it works and to assess the learning attitudes of beginner and moderately skilled pharmacists in the field of oncology. Questionnaire surveys were conducted with the participants before and after watching the webinar. The questionnaires sought to determine participants' perspectives on the webinar and their knowledge of the seven modules. Of the 1756 webinar attendees, 1661 (94.6%) answered the pre-webinar survey and 1586 (90.3%) answered the post-webinar survey. Results indicate that the median post-webinar knowledge score was significantly higher than the median pre-webinar score (p < 0.001) in all modules. Principal component analysis of the degree of knowledge of seven modules revealed that the improved score group consisted of those from younger age groups, with less experience as pharmacists, non-society members, and those with less experience in past society seminars. Moreover, the web-based seminar provided a uniform learning effect throughout the country without distinguishing between urban and rural learners. The web-based educational program was an acceptable educational tool for Japanese oncology pharmacists.

Background: In the COVID-19 era, we designed the webinar "COVID-19: instructions for use" with the aim of providing clear and actionable information to school staff about the characteristics of the disease, the preventive measures to adopt and the path for early detection and control of COVID-19 in primary schools of Modena province., Methods: We performed a cross-sectional survey using a 7-item closed-ended satisfaction questionnaire self-administered to webinar participants among school staff of the Modena Municipality and neighbouring., Results: A total of 103 out of 152 (68%) participants delivered the questionnaires. The participating staff came from 29 schools. Most of respondents (83.5%) were primary school teachers following by kindergarten teachers and educators. The overall webinar assessment index was "very good" for 51% of attendees and "good" for the remaining. Nevertheless, 25.2% highlighted the need to have more time dedicated to the discussion., Conclusions: Our project promotes a virtuous circle between school-family and community; so that the benefits can be sustained and enhanced. This may improve the effectiveness of the preventive measures in terms of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and other virus.

Background: Since the global outbreak of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), plastic surgeons were forced to transition from traditional didactics to virtual lectures to practice "social distancing." As this method of education continues to be widely used, understanding the current trend of its usage is critical. In this study, we performed a survey study of virtual lecture attendees and presenters to determine current usage and general consensus on virtual lectures in plastic surgery education., Methods: An electronic survey was sent to attendees and presenters of virtual lectures using Google Forms. Demographic data, webinar usage patterns, and views on virtual lectures were collected., Results: A total of 417 surveys were received. Prior to the COVID-19 era, 39.1percent of attendees did not use virtual lectures and 45.6percent of presenters did not give webinars at all. Both groups reported that the lack of opportunities and need were the most common cause of no use of lectures or webinars. After the outbreak, 35.4percent of attendees now use virtual lectures daily and 51.4percent of presenters give lectures weekly. Over 90percent of the study population reported a positive experience with the virtual lectures due to increased interaction, convenience, outreach, and usability. Finally, over 75percent stated that virtual lectures might replace classroom lectures in the future., Conclusion: Our study shows that a majority of plastic surgeons have begun to use and give virtual lectures daily after the COVID-19 outbreak. Objective: This study investigated the impact of the Webinar on deep human learning of CHD., Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey design study used an open and closed-ended questionnaire to assess the impact of the Webinar on deep learning of topical areas within the management of the post-operative tetralogy of Fallot patients. This was a quantitative research methodology using descriptive statistical analyses with a sequential explanatory design., Results: One thousand-three-hundred and seventy-four participants from 100 countries on 6 continents joined the Webinar, 557 (40%) of whom completed the questionnaire. Over 70% of participants reported that they "agreed" or "strongly agreed" that the Webinar format promoted deep learning for each of the topics compared to other standard learning methods (textbook and journal learning). Two-thirds expressed a preference for attending a Webinar rather than an international conference. Over 80% of participants highlighted significant barriers to attending conferences including cost (79%), distance to travel (49%), time commitment (51%), and family commitments (35%). Strengths of the Webinar included expertise, concise high-quality presentations often discussing contentious issues, and the platform quality. The main weakness was a limited time for questions. Just over 53% expressed a concern for the carbon footprint involved in attending conferences and preferred to attend a Webinar., Conclusion: E-learning Webinars represent a disruptive innovation, which promotes deep learning, greater multidisciplinary participation, and greater attendee satisfaction with fewer barriers to participation. Although Webinars will never fully replace conferences, a hybrid approach may reduce the need for conferencing, reduce carbon footprint. and promote a "sustainable academia".

Purpose: To understand the perspectives of physicians regarding the role of webinars on continuing medical education., Methods: An online survey comprising of 34 questions in nine sections was conducted using Google Forms. The link for the questionnaire was shared via e-mail and social media to practicing physicians. The survey accepted responses from September 10, 2020, to September 30, 2020., Results: In total, 509 ophthalmologists and 91 physicians from other specialties participated in the survey. The physicians were predominantly employed in nongovernmental institutes (25%) or were in private practice (33.2%). The preference was to attend a weekend webinar (62.8%), in the evening (52.8%), not extending more than 2 hours (97.7%), by ≤3 reputed national speakers (89.8%), each given 15 to 30 minutes for their presentation, and the topic being clinical or surgical skill demonstration (47.5%) or recent advances (39.5%). The residents were perceived to be the most benefited (65.3%). There was an equal preference for watching a webinar live or recorded (50.7% vs. 49.3%). Zoom Video Communications, Inc., was described as the platform that offers the best experience (43.8%). Webinars were considered to be better than conferences or continuing medical education (CME) activities (55.8%). The majority (43.8%) also preferred to get CME credit points by attending paid webinars. However, the broad consensus was that webinars should not completely replace the conferences (42.5%)., Conclusion: Our survey evaluated the participants' perspective and the advantages and the disadvantages of a webinar and provides suggestions for the conduct of an ideal webinar with maximum active participation. COVID-19 challenges to keep a valuable educational offer with lockdown measures and social distancing are reviewed. Scientific Societies had to think of new alternatives to maintain meetings with conversion to a virtual format and development of online resources, rapidly available and broadly accessible. Other in person activities as face-to-face clinics have been substituted by telemedicine; the same happened with surgical training in theatre, given the suspension of most of the operations. Finally, the need to share and communicate in a continuous evolving scenario, has impacted negatively the integrity of peer review process, not following the normal procedures to ensure scientific integrity and reproducibility in the earliest phases of the pandemic., (© 2021 Steunstichting ESOT. Situation: The COVID-19 pandemic made the traditional bedside teaching inaccessible for medical students. Problem: Within a short period of time, established bedside teaching concepts had to be converted into online formats to meet the requirements of the health authorities. Approach: The Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Essen transformed the examination course in the 5 th clinical semester into a live stream, taking into account data protection guidelines. This enabled students to participate from a distance, allowing them to take the medical history from a patient and to interact with the medical examiners. Thus, this concept goes beyond the video-based formats of the examination course. Optimization: During the course, we performed online evaluations to ensure an immediate feedback from the students. This enabled us to implement ongoing changes that had a positive impact on the course format, for example using better equipment to ensure a better video and audio quality. Purpose: To analyze the impact of ophthalmic webinars on the resident's learning experience during the COVID-19 pandemic (CP)., Methods: This cross-sectional nationwide study was carried out for 1 month during CP and included a total of 382 ophthalmic residents. A questionnaire was sent through various social media platforms., Results: Residents expressed a decline in their clinical exposure (74%; 220), thesis work (58%; 218), and acquisition of the knowledge and skills (42.5%; 161) during CP. Benefits of webinars as perceived by the residents included gain in additional knowledge (77%; 286), feedback on queries (56%; 209), access to multiple speakers (50%; 191), and topics (30%; 110). Nearly 75% (291) of residents endorsed webinars as good to the very good academic tool, and 54% (202) preferred to continue attending webinars in the post-CP phase. However, connectivity/download/data issues (54%; 200) followed by loss of personal touch (53%; 188), lengthy or irrelevant topic (37%; 134), and poor transmission quality (33%; 121) were major deterrents against the webinar., Conclusion: The current study generated overall mixed responses from the ophthalmic postgraduate residents in favor of webinars. In the present format, webinars bear enormous potentials to supplement the traditional learning tools by providing uninterrupted learning experiences. Objective The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in a shortage of medical resources, including ventilators, personal protective equipment, medical staff, and hospital beds. We investigated the impact of COVID-19 in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients, their families, caregivers, and medical experts. Methods We conducted a nationwide ALS webinar about COVID-19 in May 2020 and sent a questionnaire to those enrolled. Results A total of 135 participants (31 ALS patients; 23 families and caregivers of ALS patients; 81 medical experts) responded to this cross-sectional self-report questionnaire. The results showed that tracheostomy and invasive ventilation (TIV) was used in 22.6% of ALS patients, whereas 77.4% of ALS patients were not under TIV. Among non-TIV patients (n=24), 79.2% did not want TIV in the future. However, 47.4% of non-TIV patients not wanting a tracheostomy in advanced stages replied that they would want an emergency tracheostomy if they developed COVID-19-related pneumonia. These results suggest that ALS patients may be receptive to emergency treatments for reasons other than ALS. In addition, approximately half of the ALS patients agreed with the policy of not ventilating the elderly or ALS patients in case of a ventilator shortage. Furthermore, compared with medical experts, few ALS patients reported that the chance for ALS patients to obtain work was higher due to the increasing availability of remote work. Conclusions This survey indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic might be associated with increased distress about access to care and work, inducing contradictory responses and potential hopelessness among ALS patients.

Background: The task of the Competence Centers for vocational training (KW) is to increase the attractiveness and quality of vocational (=post-graduate) training in general practice. For this purpose, they offer, among other things, a structured seminar program for post-graduate trainees in general practice (GP-trainees). During the Covid-19 pandemic the seminar program of the KWBW-Verbundweiterbildung plus® in Baden-Württemberg was converted to digital formats. The goal of the paper is to evaluate the acceptance by the GP-trainees and lecturers, to describe experiences with the conversion to e-learning and to derive recommendations with regard to the future orientation of seminar programs in post-graduate as well as continuing medical education. The implementation was based on a modified Kern-cycle and aimed at offering eight teaching units of 45 minutes each to a large number of GP-trainees. It tried to maintain the high quality of content and education as well as the interactive character of the previous seminars. For this purpose, the events were designed as synchronous webinars (six units) with asynchronous preparation and post-processing (two units) according to the flipped classroom method. The evaluation by the participating GP-trainees and lecturers was performed online using a multi-center developed and pre-piloted questionnaire. Results and discussion: N=101 GP-trainees participated in the evaluation of five individual seminar days in the second quarter of 2020 (response rate 97%). 58% (N=59) of the trainees were satisfied or very satisfied with the implementation. 82% (n=83) rated pre-tasks as helpful. 99% (n=100) would participate in an online seminar again. For 52% (n=53) of the trainees, the attitude towards e-learning had changed positively. The main advantages mentioned were no travel, save in time and costs as well as increased flexibility. The main disadvantages mentioned were less personal interaction and technical obstacles. The high acceptance of the new digital format showed the fundamental potential of e-learning in continuing medical education. The experiences can be a source of inspiration for other departments and KW. However, it also shows that important goals of KW, such as the personal interaction of the peer group, could not be achieved. The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is increasing, health workers, the community and the management of the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) play a role in helping the relocation of corpses. The D-3 Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program facilitated the implementation of a COVID-19 corpse screening webinar for Cimahi and the Bandung Regency area. The implementation stages consist of problems with the COVID-19 pandemic, compiling and coordinating webinar activities, information dissemination and implementation, implementation of webinars, discussion sessions, and evaluations. The level of public knowledge about the circulation of COVID-19 bodies as much as 43% did not know the procedures for circulating COVID-19 bodies. Based on the results of the questionnaire 96% stated that it was very useful and the assessment of the activities was 75% very appropriate. Introduction  Conferences are important and sometimes mandatory to update the clinician with latest knowledge. Attending conferences requires planning, expenditure, and leave from work. Webinars have become the new normal in the coronavirus disease (COVID) era. We surveyed the esteemed medical fraternity on their opinion on webinars. Methods  This was conducted as an online survey (Survey Monkey) through personal electronic mails and social media with 24 questions. Details on demographic profile, specialization and affiliation, experience, choice of frequency of webinar sessions, suitable platform, mode of intimation of webinars, number of days for prior intimation, appropriate timing of the day and week, and ideas on payment options were enquired. Need for technical assistance, choice of topic for discussions, methods to make webinars more interactive, availability of recorded content, and impact on clinical practice were also assessed. Results  A total of 235 medical professionals voiced their opinion; 67% were < 35 years of age and 49% were residents. An average of 2 to 3 webinars per month (33.8%), conducted on weekdays (63%), after 6 p.m. (54%) in the form of case discussion (67.3%) or lectures from experts (55%) with at least 7 days' notice (41.7%) was the most common choice; free webinars were the wish of 56.1% participants and 28% felt webinars would definitely impact practice. Conclusion  Webinars are welcoming even after the COVID era and should go hand-in-hand with conventional conferences. Arguably, individuals living with deafblindness are among the hardest hit by the effects of the corona virus disease of 2019 (COVID- 19), given the importance of the sense of touch for their ability to interact with the world. To address this challenge, it is imperative to facilitate the implementation of evidence- and experience-based recommendations, and to improve knowledge translation on a global scale. Deafblind International organized a webinar to provide a platform where participants could exchange experiences and solutions to overcome the challenges created by the arrival of COVID-19, in order to facilitate information exchange among stakeholders in deafblindness during this pandemic. We present an overview of its content here and place the summarized themes in context with existing research literature. Abstract submission was open for 4 weeks in May 2020, resulting in 30 submissions from 13 countries across 5 continents. Of the 26 presenter teams, 9 (35%) had a co-presenter that was living with deafblindness themselves. The number of individual participants across all sessions ranged from 55 to 140 (M = 98), with a total of 3709 session registrations overall, and the organizers estimate a total attendance of around 400 participants. Based on extensive field notes taken during the webinar, and repeated viewing of the recordings, qualitative description allowed the team to synthesize eight principal themes across the event: access to information, communication, service accessibility, adaptations to service delivery, online safety and security, physical distancing, mental health and research. The first Deafblind International webinar was able to fill an important gap by bringing together a variety of stakeholders in deafblindness across the globe. The event created a sense of group membership and peer support, brought the participants, researchers, the professionals as well as their service agencies closer together and generated a sense of hope and collaboration. Teaching was delivered by trainees in Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics (the ‘specialties’). An online, questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted to assess usefulness and acceptability of the webinar by enrolled students, who were invited to complete the research questionnaire. Student responses pertaining to knowledge, confidence and interest, pre- and post-webinar, were collected and analysed.Results: A total of 247 students attended the webinar, with a 98.4% response rate to the questionnaire. Ninety-one percent of students agreed that webinars offer flexibility and convenience. About 55.1% felt that the pandemic had impacted their ability to learn new information. About 92.7% felt that the webinar was useful. Matched data showed an increase in participants’ knowledge (p = < 0.001) and confidence (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Online learning provides a useful, accessible and safe method of providing medical education in the context of the global pandemic. Background  The impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak shut down most conferences. To minimalize the influence, virtual meetings sprang up subsequently. International Microsurgery Club (IMC), as one of the largest professionals-only online microsurgery education groups worldwide, began to host regular weekend webinars during the pandemic to fill the knowledge gap. This study aims to discuss how webinars have fundamentally changed the way knowledge is delivered and exchanged. Methods  From February 29, 2020 to March 14, 2021, 103 IMC webinars were reviewed and analyzed in detail to determine the use, benefit, and effect. A comparison between webinars hosted by the different societies was made as well. A questionnaire survey focusing on attendees' behavior, attitude, and using habit about webinars was also made. Results  As for the 103 IMC webinar events, the peak participants were 112.3 people in average. The members requesting to join IMC abruptly increased during the pandemic, and the group activity increased dramatically. From the questionnaire (n  = 68), the satisfaction level was high (8.88 ± 1.18/10). The respondents were most satisfied with the good quality of the speakers (73.5%). Not only hosts our webinar series but IMC also serves as the platform that welcomes webinars from other societies to share their information. In September 2020, International Microsurgery Webinar League was established via the significant webinar hosts, with more than 300 recorded webinar talks connected successfully. Exposure to OMFS at undergraduate level is rare. Students seeking such exposure often struggle to access important information that would help them decide about a future career in OMFS. The COVID-19 pandemic has made access to such information, for example career workshops and specialty conferences, more difficult. This paper discusses our experiences of setting up an online webinar series aimed at providing practical advice for undergraduates and early trainees interested in the field of OMFS. Clinicians were approached via email and/or social media to deliver a structured programme of key advice and guidance about OMFS. Individual undergraduate and surgical societies were emailed in order to advertise the series which included talks such as ‘Week in the Life’, ‘Subspecialties’ and ‘Portfolio Building’. An interactive poster containing a Quick Response code was circulated to allow a streamlined registration process. The seminars were held via Zoom videoconferencing software and feedback collated via Typeform using a Likert-scale questionnaire. On average, the webinars were 60 minutes long and each attracted 53 attendees. The series attracted 183 unique participants. The majority of attendees were dental students and 85% were based in the UK. Overall, 94% felt their knowledge of the specialty had improved and 86% were more likely to consider pursuing OMFS as a career as result of the series. This paper shows that videoconferencing is a useful modality to engage with junior trainees and has a wide reach. These benefits must be harnessed going forward to improve access and exposure to OMFS in early trainees.

Background: The novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has catalyzed the development of online educational resources. Webinars provide opportunities for convenient distance-learning and provision of expert lectures, while reducing the financial and practical costs of attending conferences. This cross-sectional survey aims to collect subjective opinion on the usefulness of webinars as an educational platform compared to face-to-face interactions, and whether surgeons and surgeons-in-training want webinars to remain a permanent platform for training and development in the future. Methods: A free-to-attend online series of international expert lectures on a range of plastic surgery topics was delivered. Attendees were invited to anonymously complete a survey on attitudes towards webinars as an educational platform over a 2-week period. Results: A total of 883 complete responses were collected. Overall webinar attendance increased following the pandemic, with 97.4% of respondents reporting they view webinars for at least 1 h per week following implementation of COVID-19 restrictions. 90.4% respondents indicated that they intend to continue utilizing webinars even once COVID-19 restrictions are eased, and 77.8% stated they learn as much from online webinars as in-person lectures. However, irrespective of training grade, a significant proportion of respondents believe webinars should not replace face-to-face meetings. Conclusions: This study provides evidence that, while face-to-face meetings remain a valued component of education in Plastic Surgery, webinars are a useful adjunct to conventional methods, and may feature more prominently in the educational landscape of the future. Introduction The study was carried out to quantify the changes induced by the pandemic in plastic surgery practice and training and to study the impact of the webinars on plastic surgery education from a residents' perspective. Methods In this multicentric study, the number and type of surgeries, cause of injuries, and their regional variation during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period (February-September 2020) were compared with pre-COVID-19 time. An online survey on the impact of webinars was conducted for plastic surgery trainees across the country. Results There was a significant reduction in total number of surgeries (p = 0.003). The procedures for hand (p = 0.156), faciomaxillary injuries (p = 0.25), and replantations (p = 0.46) were comparable; there was a significant reduction in combined orthopedic-plastic-surgical procedures (p = 0.009) during the pandemic. There was a significant reduction in road accidents (p = 0.007) and suicidal injuries (p = 0.002) and increase in assault (p = 0.03) and domestic accidents (p = 0.01) during the COVID-19 period. A usefulness score of >8 was given for the webinars by 68.7% residents. There was no significant difference in perception of utility when correlated with the academic program at their institutes (p = 0.109); 92% opined webinars should continue in post-COVID times. Conclusion There was a drastic reduction in number of elective and emergency procedures during the COVID-19 time, negatively affecting resident training program. Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to obtain information about the perspectives of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology (IDCM) specialists on online education applications and web-based seminars, and their usage and utilization rates. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive, cross-sectional study, online survey responses of the IDCM specialists in who were members of Infectious Diseases Clinical Microbiology Specialty Society of Turkey (EKMUD) were evaluated. Results: A total of 184 IDCM specialists answered the survey questions. Of the participants, 77.2% thought that the pandemic disrupted post-graduate medical education and 84.8% thought that the pandemic disrupted pre-graduate medical education. Medical educators involved in education during the Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic reported that they mostly continued online education. Of the participants, 84.9% reported that they were able to use the internet in an effective way to gain access to information during the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the responders, 58.2% reported that they followed online training programs, such as web-based seminars and lectures, and 51.6% reported that these online programs contributed to their learning. Participants found online training programs such as web-based seminars and lectures useful in terms of learning competence, that online training programs provided people with gain in space and time, and that they found them more instructive because they gave them the chance to receive training in subjects of their interest. Participants reported that these programs provided learning competency in that these programs were more beneficial to the participants in view of place, the subject that they need/they are interested in and saving time for the trainer and the participants. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the participants mostly wanted the 2020 EKMUD congress to be held online. A total 92.9% of the participants reported that online congresses and seminars would decrease travel, participation and sponsorship costs. Only 24.5% of the participants considered that online congresses and seminars would be more effective in terms of social interaction and gaining information than face-to-face congresses. Conclusion: The IDCM specialists reported that online educational practices such as webinars were benefical. The rate of participation in webinars and online education practices were high during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemi has been going on for quite a while worldwide. Indonesia government has established the pandemi as emergency disaster. The transmission has been continously prevented through rigid protocol. However, the obedience of people to follow the protocol strictly remains challenging. Praktek Pembangunan Kesehatan Masyarakat (PPKM) is an educational program involving senior students to investigate as well as to solve the ongoing health issues in society. This year, the activity was carried out in an online seminar (webinar) entitled "Putuskan Rantai Penyebaran Covid! Pengentahuan, Pencegahan dan Pemberantasan (3P" which was aimed to students of Health Analyst in SMK Bhakti Kencana, Bayongbong, Garut. This event provides updated information in regards of Covid-19 diagnostic tests which is appropriate and valuable to the students. Furthermore, evaluation of knowledges of participants were also done based on quistionnaire. The results showed that students were healthy, however, sort of ignored the Covid-19 protocol on daily basis. After webinar, there was an escalation in knowledges of participant as shown in higher grades from post-test. The COVID-19 pandemic has led teachers in the Philippines to rely on technology to provide and support continued education for K-12 students. However, it is not only technology, but also the interactive online learning environments crafted by teachers that impact student science learning. To support teachers to cope with pandemic teaching, the government provided professional development in the form of teacher-training webinars. This study evaluated the webinars using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to understand the impact these professional development sessions had on science teachers' self-efficacy for delivering science instruction during the pandemic. The study found that webinars including UDL design elements improved science teachers' self-efficacy for teaching science and there were no significant differences in teacher perceptions relative to gender or teaching experience. To replace educational opportunities lost during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital produced an open-access webinar series ("BRAINterns") that covered a broad range of health care topics with a focus on neurosurgery. This 8-week webinar series ran from July 1 to August 28, 2020. An optional exit survey was distributed to participants. Data were analyzed to characterize and better understand trends among a global cohort of participants. A total of 16,484 people registered for BRAINterns, and 6675 took the survey (40.5% response rate). Responders represented 87 countries, of which the majority were from the United States and Canada (90.48%, n = 6039). Responders were primarily female (82.9%, n = 5521). Racial and ethnic representation was majority Asian (42%, n = 2798), followed by White (22.7%, n = 1514), Hispanic/Latino (16.2%, n = 1080), and Black and African American (7.7%, n = 516). Participants reported hearing about BRAINterns through various social media platforms (72.18%, n = 4818)—the most popular was TikTok (33.4%, n = 2232). Overall, 93.4% of participants reported that the course was a good use of their time during the pandemic, and 86.7% reported that the course helped replace lost opportunities. These data demonstrate that webinar-based education is an effective method of expanding access to careers in medicine and in particular, neurosurgery, to traditionally underrepresented populations. Objective: To evaluate students' satisfaction of E-learning at a private teaching medical college during COVID-19 lockdown. Study Design: Cross Sectional Descriptive study. Setting: Shalamar Medical and Dental College. Period: April 2020 to July 2020. Material & Methods: A standardized and validated questionnaire (SEEQ) was disseminated among MBBS students of SMDC. The questionnaire contained open ended and closed ended questions; the latter were based on likert scale. Results: A total of 365 students responded to the questionnaire with 57% and 43% of the respondents being females and males respectively. Overall, the 3rd, 4th and 5th year MBBS students seemed more satisfied with online lectures (52-54%) compared with 1st and 2nd year MBBS students (26%). The students showed dissatisfaction on assignments and assessments being taken on Moodle. The connectivity problem was seen as a major concern for the students. However the students appreciated that the sessions were recorded regularly and available on YouTube channels. Conclusion: The findings of our study showed that 1st and 2nd year students were not mentally prepared for the sudden paradigm shift from traditional to online teaching. However the students realized that gradual shift was not possible in the current scenario and were generally satisfied with E-learning. Webinars as an avenue for professional development training remain to be scarcely explored, impeding the innovations in human resource development, which, if left unresolved, could have detrimental consequences to the professionals and ultimately, the economy. This study responded to this gap by exploring and examining the meanings around webinars as capacity-building for professionals from the point of view of the teachers. Guided by the post-modern, constructivist philosophical stance, interpretive hermeneutic phenomenology research design, and the interpretive analysis of qualitative data, the virtual face-to-face interview of the purposively selected 35 teachers revealed four overarching themes: (1) Webinars as vital space for formal professional deliberations; (2) Webinars as matters of personal, environmental, technical, and financial tolls; (3) Webinars as prevue of what lies ahead in the new normal of education; and (4) Webinars as the lifeblood in facing the new normal of education. Overall, the themes purport that despite the different issues that teachers encountered in the navigation of webinar complexities, their learning and discovery, cultivated connections, and developed hope for the newer education system and continued professional growth in the future, are what makes webinars their lifeblood in facing the new normal of education. These findings can help human resource development personnel craft webinar training plans and protocols that are congruous to the present situations, common interests, and nature of professional teachers. Online Faculty Development Programs/Webinars are the two buzzing words, which have become viral next to corona among the teaching fraternity during the lockdown period of pandemic situation caused by COVID-19. This work intends to throw light on, the reason for the outbreak of FDPs/ Webinars, their efficiency and the attitude of the participating faculty during the lockdown period from 16th March to 15th June 20. Information is gathered through an online survey having 31 research questions answered by 683 participants across India. The new found tool of online teaching has become the accepted norm and the urge to lead the bandwagon by each and every stakeholder in the education sector resulted in a sudden spurt of webinars and FDPs in such a short period. Study observed that global reach at no cost plus freedom of working from home spurred many faculty to experiment this mode and 40% from them have been found to be juggling with many courses simultaneously for certificate sake only, 45.1% attended on mandatory instructions and 38% have not even initiated the work. Quizzes and Polls during sessions besides assignments were found to be suitable active learning mechanisms to improve the efficacy of the online knowledge transfer methods.

This case report describes the development, implementation and evaluation of a public-facing webinar that provided psychoeducation addressing the emotional distress that has accompanied the coronavirus pandemic. Using a webinar was an effective strategy for reaching a large, public audience and making content from expert clinicians accessible. Participants were likely to recommend the webinar to friends or family. Participants appreciated that the webinar acknowledged the presence of distressing emotions and provided practical advice for reducing the negative psychological sequelae of the coronavirus pandemic. Areas for improvement included addressing technical issues and incorporating additional information into the webinar. The coronavirus disease 2019 has brought public attention to questions regarding the type of care individuals would want to receive in the event of becoming suddenly critically ill. Advance care planning (ACP) is one way to help individuals and families address these questions. However, social distancing, stay-at-home orders, and hospital visitor restrictions have raised new barriers to facilitating these conversations. Here, we describe the implementation and evaluation of a novel, public-facing, and two-part virtual ACP workshop. Participants were recruited through electronic communication, and evaluations were collected through surveys administered after each part of the workshop. We found that using a virtual format allowed us to reach a large and geographically diverse audience. Participants were likely to recommend the workshop to friends and family. BACKGROUND: COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has brought all sectors to be dwindled with no exception of the academic system. Even professional courses like medical and allied health academic courses were also not spared. The academic requirements were not met as required to do so. Webinar has become a good source of virtual platform acting as a bridge for attaining the gaps in accomplishing the curriculum to the students during these curfew times. Our study aimed to know the value of webinars on teaching–learning processes among the medical and allied health science students in India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study design is a cross-sectional study with 2084 students who attended at least one webinar. An online survey questionnaire was sent, and the data were collected on participant's perspective on the effectiveness of webinar, post webinar assessment by their satisfactory level of gain of information through webinars and their plan to apply in future. RESULTS: Participant's perspective on effectiveness of webinar showed 66.7% of agreement with the webinar use. In post webinar assessment, the use of webinar was in agreement with 69.9% of the participants. Furthermore, we observed a significant association with the gain of information in post webinar assessment (P < 0.05) and a significant association with their plan to apply in future (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our results showed that the students were satisfied with the webinar teaching and acknowledged it to be an effective tool in the teaching–learning process to gain new knowledge and wish to attend webinars in future as a part of their curriculum. Thus, webinars have a constructive effect in the teaching and learning process in professional courses during pandemic lockdown.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all domains of urology. Annual educational conferences by prominent urological bodies were suspended, due to the inability of conventional conference to adhere to social distancing stipulations. Innovative methods of healthcare delivery were therefore required to mitigate some of financial, health, training and research implications. Webinars is now a very popular method of communication and dissipation of knowledge with increasing adoption in medical education, training and also has been included in the curriculum of elite universities. The term 'webinar' is a combination of web and seminar, meaning a presentation, lecture, or workshop that is transmitted over the web. Webinars have proven to be convenient, flexible, cost-effective and reduce the carbon footprint. Furthermore, it is likely that webinars have a wider global audience reach and individual delegates have the ability to access more meetings from the comfort of their homes. The Urology community has been one of more prominent adopters of webinars in delivering educational activity during the pandemic. An estimated 400 urology webinars have been listed on DocMeetings since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, webinar is not without limitations. The didactic nature of webinars allows for minimal interpersonal interaction and constructive debate with the audience. It is however likely with potential technological advancements this going to be less of an issue in the future.
