During the COVID-19 pandemic, both the U.S. and Europe have issued movement restrictions with the exception of visits to essential services, including groceries and pharmacies. Using Google's data on community mobility, I employ an event-study design to compare the effects of movement restrictions on physical mobility in the U.S. and Europe. I find that compared to Europe, the U.S. has higher levels of mobility related to visits to groceries and pharmacies and lower levels of the residential presence relative to baseline values, and the differences are not only statistically significant but also of large magnitudes. Such differences in post-restriction mobility are still significant between Europe and the U.S.' early epicenters of COVID-19. The main results of this paper are robust to changes in samples and specifications. These findings suggest that movement restrictions appear to be less effective in the U.S., which have useful implications for health policy evaluation, pandemic forecasting, and economic recovery., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier B.V. The COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented in scope and nature, altering everyday life for people across the United States. One major change involved how schools provided educational services. Prior to the pandemic, schools used in-person instruction as their service delivery model for educational and education-related services, such as services for the blind and visually impaired. To document the effects of this historic event, an exploratory survey through Qualtrics was conducted on the perceptions of (a) teachers of students with visual impairments and (b) orientation and mobility specialists in four categories: service delivery models, student demographics, instruction and engagement, and preparation and training. Percentages were calculated with closed questions, and open-ended responses were used to clarify the data. There were some significant post-hoc correlations between ability to provide educational services and instructional delivery models. The results have implications for practitioners and professionals working in higher education.

People have always moved guided by the need to carry out various activities in different places, including that of meeting and communicating with other people. Over the past two decades, the concept of "communication" has significantly evolved given the introduction of multimedia digital technologies, which have enabled people to communicate without necessarily their physical presence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, "virtual mobility" (or "virtual communication") played a crucial role in ensuring communications between people in different contexts of social life, growing in few months to previously unforeseeable levels and demonstrating that it can substitute physical movements in many occasions. A smart management of mobility that combines the ability to virtually communicate and the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to support physical mobility, can therefore strongly influence people's choice to move or not, and how. Starting from the analysis of physical mobility and virtual communications trends before and during the health emergency in Italy, this paper analyses the relationships between these two forms of communication, evaluating how virtual communication affected the different segments of Italian mobility during the pandemic and how it will affect the way people move in the post COVID-19 period. A SWOT analysis of virtual mobility is performed for each communication segment, with the aim of highlighting its pros and cons, but also future opportunities and possible threats. Some policy indications are also provided in relation to different mobility segments, governance levels (urban, regional and national) and congestion/pollution scenarios, highlighting how virtual mobility can help regulate physical movements, with the ultimate goal of pursuing a safe, sustainable, effective, efficient and connected mobility. • Physical and virtual mobility trends are analysed before and during Italian COVID-19 emergency. • The relationships between physical mobility and virtual communication are evaluated. • A novel SWOT analysis is provided regarding virtual mobility. • Virtual communication can help regulate physical mobility. • Policy indications are provided for different mobility segments, governance levels and congestion scenarios. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is currently sweeping the globe. With this pandemic impacting social, political and economic spheres, this article unpacks COVID-19 in relation to international tertiary dance education, asking: How are we sustaining international relationships and global dialogues within dance education in light of COVID-19? What might be new ways of engaging internationally if we are not physically able to travel in the ways we did before COVID-19? And how are we becoming creative with our dance education within this time of online learning, teaching and researching, and what might this offer international tertiary dance education? Through an auto-narrative approach we share three experiences from these early days within a changing world, where we reflect on our role and practices as dance educators and researchers navigating these times. Themes of innovation, motivation, cultural agendas, slow scholarship, online pedagogy, and virtual and corporeal mobility are identified and discussed in relation to the potential future(s) for international tertiary dance education in a COVID-19 world.

In recent years, obstacles to physical mobility, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have hastened the turn towards online platforms for educational and social activities. Many study abroad programs have had to adapt to such circumstances and embrace virtual environments in the face of limited physical mobility. In this case study, we look at how one multi-university program, the UGPN Academy, was able to expand international student learning efforts despite travel limitations due, in part, to adapting to online communication technologies and environments. Through comparison of surveys administered to participants pre- and post-participation, students reported that having an online community as a source of social support, as well as learning about different experiences during a global pandemic, were two strengths of the program. In addition, students reported becoming more familiar with different online technologies as well as feeling more open to people from diverse backgrounds and international careers. These findings contribute to a further understanding of Internationalisation at Home (IaH) as a useful model that can be extremely valuable in its own right. Although IaH is not a replacement for physical mobility, it may provide its own benefits, such as providing a collaborative, diverse online community as a source of social and professional support, networking and opportunities for international learning experiences for students who are unable to participate in traditional study abroad programs. Diversifying and further integrating such virtual platforms can then be seen as a part of best practices rather than a replacement for traditional modes of international cultural exchange.

Although yet to be clearly identified as a clinical condition, there is immense concern at the health and wellbeing consequences of long COVID. Using data collected from nearly half a million Americans in the period June 2022-December 2022 in the US Census Bureau's Household Pulse Survey (HPS), we find 14 percent reported suffering long COVID at some point, half of whom reported it at the time of the survey. Its incidence varies markedly across the United States–from 11 percent in Hawaii to 18 percent in West Virginia–and is higher for women than men, among Whites compared with Blacks and Asians, and declines with rising education and income. It is at its highest in midlife in the same way as negative affect. Ever having had long COVID is strongly associated with negative affect (anxiety, depression, worry and a lack of interest in things), with the correlation being strongest among those who currently report long COVID, especially if they report severe symptoms. In contrast, those who report having had short COVID report higher wellbeing than those who report never having had COVID. Long COVID is also strongly associated with physical mobility problems, and with problems dressing and bathing. It is also associated with mental problems as indicated by recall and understanding difficulties. Again, the associations are strongest among those who currently report long COVID, while those who said they had had short COVID have fewer physical and mental problems than those who report never having had COVID. Human mobility, which refers to the movement of people from one location to another, is believed to be one of the key factors shaping the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are multiple reasons that can change human mobility patterns, such as fear of an infection, control measures restricting movement, economic opportunities, political instability, etc. Human mobility rates are complex to estimate as they can occur on various time scales, depending on the context and factors driving the movement. For example, short-term movements are influenced by the daily work schedule, whereas long-term trends can be due to seasonal employment opportunities. The goal of the study is to perform literature review to: (i) identify relevant data sources that can be used to estimate human mobility rates at different time scales, (ii) understand the utilization of variety of data to measure human movement trends under different contexts of mobility changes, and (iii) unraveling the associations between human mobility rates and social determinants of health affecting COVID-19 disease dynamics. The systematic review of literature was carried out to collect relevant articles on human mobility. Our study highlights the use of three major sources of mobility data: public transit, mobile phones, and social surveys. The results also provides analysis of the data to estimate mobility metrics from the diverse data sources. All major factors which directly and indirectly influenced human mobility during the COVID-19 spread are explored. Our study recommends that (a) a significant balance between primitive and new estimated mobility parameters need to be maintained, (b) the accuracy and applicability of mobility data sources should be improved, (c) encouraging broader interdisciplinary collaboration in movement-based research is crucial for advancing the study of COVID-19 dynamics among scholars from various disciplines., (© 2024. This case study on COVID-19 warning designs in a Swedish context illustrates how a unified affordance approach may contribute to an understanding of the meaning-making in reminders, instructions, cues and prompts that communicate the message "keep your distance." The analysis combines semiotic and ecological affordance categories, taking both Gibson's original theorizing on affordances and more recent affordance-informed research efforts into consideration. In so doing, the study aims to bridge a knowledge gap in the study of visual instructions and warning designs as well as in a more comprehensive way delineate the multimodal design strategies associated with COVID-19 warning designs. The analysis shows that Swedish COVID-19 warning designs of the keep-your-distance-kind belong to a non-standardized and emerging genre that is marked by great variation and ad-hoc design solutions, several of which combine physical blocking functions with verbally based messages. The analysis also highlights the tension between verbal and visual recourses, on one hand, and the signage placement and choice of materials, on the other hand. It is concluded that communication resources do not always appear to convey the same basic message, but in incongruent ways weaken what might be considered the intended main message. This prospective observational cohort study was performed to investigate the physical function and mental health trajectories of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) after discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU). The study population consisted of 64 patients (median age, 60 years; 85.9% male; median IMV duration, 9 days). At ICU discharge, 28.1% of the patients had Medical Research Council (MRC) sum score < 48 points, and prolonged IMV was significantly associated with lower MRC sum score and handgrip strength. Symptoms were similar between groups at ICU discharge, and the symptoms most commonly reported as moderate-to-severe were impaired well-being (52%), anxiety (43%), tiredness (41%), and depression (35%). Although muscle strength and mobility status were significantly improved after ICU discharge, Edmonton Symptom Assessment System score did not improve significantly in the prolonged IMV group. EuroQol five-dimension five-level summary index was significantly lower in the prolonged than short IMV group at 6 months after ICU discharge. We found substantial negative physical function and mental health consequences in the majority of surviving COVID-19 patients requiring IMV, with prolonged period of IMV showing greater negative effects not only immediately but also at 6 months after discharge from the ICU. Background: This study aimed to demonstrate the technological means used to offer telerehabilitation and to evaluate the effect of physical exercise on the population affected by COVID-19. Methods: Clinical trials were searched in the electronic databases Cochrane Library, PubMed/MEDLINE, EBSCO (CINAHL), PEDro, and Web of Science from January 16 to 19, 2023. The effect measure was estimated as mean difference (MD) or standard MD (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Subgroup analysis was used to study potential moderating factors. Results: Twenty-four articles, describing trials with a total of 1,344 individuals affected by COVID-19, were included in the qualitative synthesis and 14 articles in the meta-analysis. The pooled results revealed that telerehabilitation improves the functional capacity (MD 79.65 [63.57, 95.73]m, p < 0.00001), agility (MD −0.69 [−1.33, −0.04] s, p = 0.04), lower limb strength and endurance (SMD 0.74 [0.52, 0.96], p < 0.00001), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (MD 0.22 [−0.04, 0.49] L, p = 0.10), and dyspnea (SMD −0.94 [−1.64, −0.24], p = 0.009). The dynamic muscular resistance training associated or not with other exercise modalities led to improvements in muscular strength (MD 4.69 [0.44, 8.94] kg, p = 0.03) and fatigue (SMD −0.97 [−1.74, −0.20], p = 0.01). In addition, telerehabilitation showed improvements in the quality of life in the contagious-phase COVID-19 patients. Although this intervention improved inspiratory muscle strength (MD 13.71 [5.41, 22.0] cmH2O, p = 0.001), it did not favor forced vital capacity. Conclusions: Telerehabilitation contributed to improving functional capacity, inspiratory muscle strength, physical fitness, and quality of life, and reducing dyspnea and fatigue in COVID-19 adult survivors. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic urged all healthcare providers to collaborate to defeat this mortal infection. SARS-CoV-2 almost hits the respiratory system and may have subsequent serious complications like pulmonary embolism and multi-organ damage. Objective: To illustrate the rehabilitation program challenges encountered by physiotherapists in clinically managing hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The goal was to preclude the need for invasive mechanical ventilation and to improve the patient's oxygen saturation and general health. Methods: In this retrospective case-series study, we described the physiotherapy strategies implemented for 14 COVID-19 patients during the hospitalization period at an Egyptian governmental quarantine hospital. Results: The rehabilitation program was customized by physiotherapists to accommodate the specific circumstances, conditions, and acquired complications of individual patients. Patients were under the care of physiotherapists in both the COVID ward and ICU. Overcoming challenges such as patient reluctance, co-morbidities, and the effects of aging was a task faced by these healthcare professionals. Consequently, the program had to be modified to suit the unique needs of each patient. These tailored programs encompassed techniques such as percussion, positioning, range of motion, circulatory exercises, and respiratory exercises. The patients exhibited positive responses to their designated physical therapy program, experiencing improvements on various levels based on the progression of their individual cases. Conclusion: Physiotherapy has a major role in improving patient complications after being infected with COVID-19. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the association of anxiety, headache, and insomnia on the QoL of patients with long COVID-19. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey between August 2020 and March 2023. A total of 200 participants were eligible, 53 were excluded and 147 patients with long COVID were included. QoL was evaluated across eight domains using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Standardized protocols including the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (n = 103), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) (n = 73), and Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) (n = 67) were also used. Results: Participants with sleep disorders had significantly lower Vitality (p < 0.001). Participants with anxiety disorders had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.001), poorer Mental Health (p = 0.008), and more severe Bodily Pain (p = 0.008). Participants with headache had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.032), poorer Mental Health (p = 0.036), and poorer Physical Functioning (p = 0.016). Participants with both headache and anxiety had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.005) and Mental Health (p = 0.043) domain scores. Correlation analysis revealed that higher scores for anxiety, sleep disorder, and headache were independently correlated with poorer QoL across various domains. The presence of sleep disorder was associated with a fourfold increase in risk of experiencing diminished Vitality (odds ratio [OR]4.47; 95% CI 1.01-19.69; p = 0.048). Conclusion: Participants with anxiety, sleep, and headache disorders tended to have a worse QoL. The Vitality and Mental Health domains were the most adversely affected in patients with long COVID. Objective: The aim of our study was to evaluate the physical performance, balance, gait and activities of daily living (ADL) of older individuals with long COVID syndrome (LCS). Methods: A total of 124 individuals (49% women) with a mean age of 71.8 ± 5.8 years were included in the study. Participants were divided into two groups, older individuals with LCS in the LCS group and older individuals who were not diagnosed with COVID‐19 in the CON (control) group. Physical performance of participants was evaluated with the Alusti Test, balance and gait assessment was evaluated with the Tinetti Balance and Gait Assessment (TBGA), and ADL were evaluated with the Barthel Index (BI). Results: In the evaluations between groups, the mean score of active muscular mobility of right and left upper extremities, transfer supine position to sitting, trunk in sitting position and standing, which are among the subparameters of the Alusti Test, were statistically significantly lower in LCS compared to CON (p <.05). TBGA total score and gait section mean score of TBGA were statistically significantly lower in LCS than in CON (p <.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in the balance section of the TBGA and the mean BI scores (p >.05). Conclusions: It was concluded that physical performance parameters related to active muscular mobility of the upper extremity, transfer supine position to sitting, trunk in sitting position and walking in LCS were negatively affected by the disease, but this did not affect the level of balance and independence in ADL. To understand and discuss the perceptions about fear of falling (FOF) in older adults without a history of falls. A qualitative study with a convenience sample consisting of 51 older adults. Data collection was out through semi-structured interviews during the Covid-19 pandemic. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes were grouped: FOF and its repercussions; Reactions to FOF in the daily life of the pandemic; and No fear, but aware of aging. The older adults reported a fear of dependence, difficulties and cautious behaviors in activities of daily living and mobility in the community. Understanding FOF can contribute for your approach and building multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies aimed at maintaining independence and strengthening the identity of older adults without a history of falls in the community. Understanding what factors are linked to public health behavior in a global pandemic is critical to mobilizing an effective public health response. Although public policy and health messages are often framed through the lens of individual benefit, many of the behavioral strategies needed to combat a pandemic require individual sacrifices to benefit the collective welfare. Therefore, we examined the relationship between individuals' morality and their support for public health measures. In a large-scale study with samples from 68 countries worldwide (Study 1; N = 46,576), we found robust evidence that moral identity, morality-as-cooperation, and moral circles are each positively related to people's willingness to engage in public health behaviors and policy support. Together, these moral dispositions accounted for 9.8%, 10.2%, and 6.2% of support for limiting contact, improving hygiene, and supporting policy change, respectively. These morality variables (Study 2) and Schwartz's values dimensions (Study 3) were also associated with behavioral responses across 42 countries in the form of reduced physical mobility during the pandemic. International student exchange is integral to internationalization at higher education institutions and global human resource development in Japan. However, border closures and restrictions on physical mobility since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced universities to adopt virtual mobility models to deliver international exchange programs. This study explores students' experiences of taking virtual exchange programs and their pedagogical implications for future virtual exchange programs. In this paper, we present one case of virtual student mobility implemented at one national university in Japan. Analysis of multiple data sets, including student surveys (n=789), reflection papers (n=420), and interviews with a program administrator and a faculty member, revealed that this type of virtual student mobility program has strong merits in promoting internationalization activities. Students were satisfied with the diverse interdisciplinary academic content, flexibility in taking the course, and opportunity to engage with the host university faculty members and international students. Many have expressed their interest in studying at the host university in person.

As a way of slowing COVID-19 transmission, many countries and U.S. states implemented shelter-in-place (SIP) policies. However, the effects of SIP policies on public health are a priori ambiguous. Using an event study approach and data from 43 countries and all U.S. states, we measure changes in excess deaths following the implementation of COVID-19 shelter-in-place (SIP) policies. We do not find that countries or U.S. states that implemented SIP policies earlier had lower excess deaths. We do not observe differences in excess deaths before and after the implementation of SIP policies, even when accounting for pre-SIP COVID-19 death rates., (© 2023 RAND Corporation and The Authors. Graduate students balance several responsibilities which, in addition to pandemic-related pressures, might pose challenges to their mental wellbeing and resilience. The purpose of this study was to: (1) examine the self-reported resilience and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of Ontario graduate students 18 months into the COVID-19 pandemic; and (2) determine whether a relationship existed between graduate students' resilience and HRQOL, in general, and based on gender and degree program. Participants completed an online survey containing demographics, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10, and the RAND 36-Item Health Survey 1.0. Data analyses involved computing measures of central tendency and dispersion for demographic characteristics and scales. Linear regression was employed. A total of 376 students participated. Participants reported low resilience (M = 26.04, SD = 6.31) and, with respect to HRQOL, high physical functioning (M = 91.63, SD = 14.28) and low role limitations due to emotional problems (M = 37.61, SD = 40.52). Participants who identified as non-binary scored lowest on each scale compared to their cisgender counterparts. Resilience was positively associated with HRQOL. It is concerning that graduate students' resilience was low, as low resilience has been associated with a high prevalence of depression, anxiety, and perceived stress. Further, it is surprising that participants reported high physical functioning when engagement in physical activity – a component of physical functioning – has been associated with increased resilience among university students. Study findings may aid researchers and student affairs personnel in understanding graduate students' levels of resilience and HRQOL during the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many patients exhibit persistently reduced pulmonary diffusing capacity after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). In this study, dual test gas diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide and nitric oxide (DL,CO,NO) metrics and their relationship to disease severity and physical performance were examined in patients who previously had COVID‐19. An initial cohort of 148 patients diagnosed with COVID‐19 of all severities between March 2020 and March 2021 had a DL,CO,NO measurement performed using the single‐breath method at 5.7 months follow‐up. All patients with at least one abnormal DL,CO,NO metric (n = 87) were revaluated at 12.5 months follow‐up. The DL,CO,NO was used to provide the pulmonary diffusing capacity for nitric oxide (DL,NO), the pulmonary diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DL,CO,5s), the alveolar–capillary membrane diffusing capacity and the pulmonary capillary blood volume. At both 5.7 and 12.5 months, physical performance was assessed using a 30 s sit‐to‐stand test and the 6 min walk test. Approximately 60% of patients exhibited a severity‐dependent decline in at least one DL,CO,NO metric at 5.7 months follow‐up. At 12.5 months, both DL,NO and DL,CO,5s had returned towards normal but still remained abnormal in two‐thirds of the patients. Concurrently, improvements in physical performance were observed, but with no apparent relationship to any DL,CO,NO metric. The severity‐dependent decline in DL,NO and DL,CO observed at 5.7 months after COVID‐19 appears to be reduced consistently at 12.5 months follow‐up in the majority of patients, despite marked improvements in physical performance. Background: The Square Stepping Exercise (SSE) is an exercise training program that integrates physical exercise and cognitive elements and can be conducted in a group setting. The potential of SSE in delaying cognitive decline in older adults is promising. However, the coronavirus pandemic has made it more difficult for older adults worldwide to exercise together in person. To address this issue, this study conducted a wholistic evaluation of the effects of a center-based hybrid SSE trial on cognitive, physical, psychological, and group functioning in sedentary older adults. Methods: A total of 93 older adults (19 men, 74 women) participated in the study. Fifty-eight participants (9 men, 49 women) completed center-based hybrid SSE sessions over 12 weeks under coronavirus pandemic circumstances, whereas other 35 participants in the control group maintained their current level of daily activities. Cognitive functions focused on executive functions assessed by the Stroop Color-Word Test (inhibition) and the Trail Marking Test (TMT) (set-shifting). Psychological and group functioning were assessed by the Subjective Vitality Scale and the Physical Activity Group Environment Questionnaire. Physical function was evaluated by measuring gait speeds. A repeated ANOVA was conducted on the measured variables separately for the intervention and control groups to focus on the change of participant's performance over data collection points. Results: Outcomes of the Stroop Color-Word Test and the TMT revealed that the hybrid SSE was highly effective in improving executive function. Stroop performance (correct trials) was significantly improved in the incongruent condition, as well as both TMT-A and -B over the intervention period in the intervention group. The hybrid SSE was also beneficial to improve physical (gait speed at usual pace and at the maximum pace) as well as psychological functioning (subjective vitality). Furthermore, SSE participants reported increased engagement with the SSE task, social communication, and increased bonding and closeness with their group members through the hybrid SSE. Conclusions: In this study, hybrid SSE was found to be effective in enhancing cognitive, physical, psychological, and group functioning in sedentary older adults. During the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns were raised that face covering use may elicit risk compensation; a false sense of security resulting in reduced adherence to other protective behaviours such as physical distancing. This systematic review aimed to investigate the effect of face covering use on adherence to other COVID-19 related protective behaviours. Medline, Embase, PsychInfo, EmCare, medRxiv preprints, Research Square and WHO COVID-19 Research Database were searched for all primary research studies published from 1st January 2020 to 17th May 2022 that investigated the effect of face covering use on adherence to other protective behaviours in public settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Papers were selected and screened in accordance with the PRISMA framework. Backwards and forwards citation searches of included papers were also conducted on 16th September 2022, with eligible papers published between 1st January 2020 and that date being included. A quality appraisal including risk of bias was assessed using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Quality Criteria Checklist. This review is registered on PROSPERO, number CRD42022331961. 47 papers were included, with quality ranging from low to high. These papers investigated the effects of face covering use and face covering policies on adherence to six categories of behaviour: physical distancing; mobility; face-touching; hand hygiene; close contacts; and generalised protective behaviour. Results reveal no consistent evidence for or against risk compensation, with findings varying according to behaviour and across study types, and therefore confident conclusions cannot be made. Therapeutic-dose heparin decreased days requiring organ support in noncritically ill patients hospitalized for COVID-19, but its impact on persistent symptoms or quality of life (QOL) is unclear. In the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines 4 ACUTE (ACTIV-4a) trial, was randomization of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 illness to therapeutic-dose vs prophylactic heparin associated with fewer symptoms and better QOL at 90 days? This was an open-label randomized controlled trial at 34 hospitals in the United States and Spain. A total of 727 noncritically ill patients hospitalized for COVID-19 from September 2020 to June 2021 were randomized to therapeutic-dose vs prophylactic heparin. Only patients with 90-day data on symptoms and QOL were analyzed. We ascertained symptoms and QOL by the EQ-5D-5L at 90-day follow-up in a preplanned analysis for the ACTIV-4a trial. Individual domains assessed by the EQ-5D-5L included mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Among 571 patients, 288 (50.4%) reported at least one symptom. Among 410 patients, 148 (36.1%) reported moderate to severe impairment in one or more domains of the EQ-5D-5L. The presence of 90-day symptoms was associated with moderate-severe impairment in the EQ-5D-5L domains of mobility (adjusted OR [aOR], 2.37; 95% CI, 1.22-4.59), usual activities (aOR, 3.66; 95% CI, 1.75-7.65), pain (aOR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.43-4.12), and anxiety (aOR, 4.32; 95% CI, 2.06-9.02), compared with patients reporting no symptoms There were no differences in symptoms or in the overall EQ-5D-5L index score between treatment groups. Therapeutic-dose heparin was associated with less moderate-severe impairment in all physical functioning domains (mobility, self-care, usual activities) but was independently significant only in the self-care domain (aOR, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.11-0.96). Background: Symptoms of COVID-19 including fatigue and dyspnea, may persist for weeks to months after SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study compared self-reported disability among SARS-CoV-2-positive and negative persons with mild to moderate COVID-19-like illness who presented for outpatient care before widespread COVID-19 vaccination. Methods: Unvaccinated adults with COVID-19-like illness enrolled within 10 days of illness onset at three US Flu Vaccine Effectiveness Network sites were tested for SARS-CoV-2 by molecular assay. Enrollees completed an enrollment questionnaire and two follow-up surveys (7–24 days and 2–7 months after illness onset) online or by phone to assess illness characteristics and health status. The second follow-up survey included questions measuring global health, physical function, fatigue, and dyspnea. Scores in the four domains were compared by participants' SARS-CoV-2 test results in univariate analysis and multivariable Gamma regression. Results: During September 22, 2020 – February 13, 2021, 2712 eligible adults were enrolled, 1541 completed the first follow-up survey, and 650 completed the second follow-up survey. SARS-CoV-2-positive participants were more likely to report fever at acute illness but were otherwise comparable to SARS-CoV-2-negative participants. At first follow-up, SARS-CoV-2-positive participants were less likely to have reported fully or mostly recovered from their illness compared to SARS-CoV-2-negative participants. At second follow-up, no differences by SARS-CoV-2 test results were detected in the four domains in the multivariable model. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on various aspects of our lives, affecting personal, occupational, economic, and social spheres. Much has been learned since the early 2020s, which will be very useful when the next pandemic emerges. In general, mobility and virus spread are strongly related. However, most studies analyze the impact of COVID-19 on mobility, but not much research has focused on analyzing the impact of mobility on virus transmission, especially from the point of view of monitoring virus incidence, which is extremely important for making sound decisions to control any epidemiological threat to public health. As a result of a thorough analysis of COVID-19 and mobility data, this work introduces a novel measure, the Infection Ratio (IR), which is not sensitive to underestimation of positive cases and is very effective in monitoring the pandemic's upward or downward evolution when it appears to be more stable, thus anticipating possible risk situations. For a bounded spatial context, we can infer that there is a significant threshold in the restriction of mobility that determines a change of trend in the number of infections that, if maintained for a minimum period, would notably increase the chances of keeping the spread of disease under control. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic brought about numerous changes. Access to health services was limited, and restrictions were imposed to prevent the spread of the disease. These restrictions included wearing protective masks, staying indoors, keeping distance from others in public places, quarantines, and home isolation in confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases. Consequently physical activity of children was limited due to their increased time at home, which could result in reduced physical performance and abnormal development. Aim: This study aimed to assess the access to physiotherapy and the use of telemedicine regarding children after subtalar arthroereisis surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods: Seventy-nine parents/guardians of children who underwent subtalar arthroereisis surgery at Chorzow Municipal Hospital Complex between May 2019 and May 2021 participated in the study. A self-administered questionnaire designed for the study was used as the research method. Results: The results showed that some respondents perceived the wait times at the National Health Service and the cost of private services as problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, increased problems associated with general access or course of treatment were not confirmed. Sixty-seven percent of respondents confirmed decreased physical activity in children due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One-third of parents noticed weight gain and muscle weakness in their children, while for 56% of respondents, the weight gain was not noticeable. In addition, more than 70% of the children had no complaints of pain. The results also showed that only 36.8% of respondents used telemedicine during the pandemic. Conclusions: The constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic caused a decline in children's physical activity; one-third of parents reported weight gain in their children. In addition, waiting times for physiotherapy reimbursed by the National Health Fund were long, and the cost of private physiotherapy was higher; it could not be confirmed whether more patients subsequently used telemedicine. Introduction: COVID-19 is a multi-systemic disease which can target the lungs and the cardiovascular system and can also affect parts of the brain for prolonged periods of time. Even healthy athletes without comorbidities can be psychologically affected long-term by COVID-19. Objective: This study aimed to investigate athletes' perceived mental stress and recovery levels in daily life, and their maximal aerobic power, at three different time points, post COVID-19. Methods: In total, 99 athletes (62.6% male), who had been infected by COVID-19, filled out the Recovery Stress Questionnaire for Athletes (REST-Q-Sport) and completed cardiopulmonary exercise testing (endpoint maximal aerobic power output (Pmax)) at the initial screening (t1: 4 months after infection). Follow-up assessments occurred three (t2, n = 37) and seven months after t1 (t3, n = 19). Results: Subgroup means from the Recovery category were significantly below the reference value of four at all three time points, except "General Recovery" (3.76 (± 0.96), p = 0.275, d = 0.968) at t3."Overtiredness" (2.34 (± 1.27), p = 0.020, r = 0.224) was significantly above the reference value of two at t1, while all other Stress subgroups were not significantly different from the reference value or were significantly below the maximum threshold of two at t1, t2 and t3. Spearman's ρ revealed a negative association between Pmax and the subcategories of stress (ρ = -0.54 to ρ = -0.11, p < 0.050), and positive correlations between Pmax and "Somatic Recovery" (ρ = 0.43, p < 0.001) and "General Recovery" (ρ = 0.23, p = 0.040) at t1. Pmax (t1: 3.83 (± 0.99), t2: 3.78 (± 1.14), β = 0.06, p < 0.003) increased significantly from t1 to t2. In addition, REST-Q-Sport indicated a decrease in "Sleep" (t2 = 2.35 (± 0.62), t3 = 2.28(± 0.61), β = -0.18, p < 0.023) at t3, when compared to t2. Conclusion: The perceived recovery seems to be negatively affected in post COVID-19 athletes. Physical performance post COVID-19 correlates with both "Emotional and Somatic Stress" and "Somatic and General Recovery", indicating potential mental and physical benefits of exercise. While it is evident that COVID-19, like other viral infections, may have an influence on physical performance, monitoring stress and recovery perceptions of athletes is critical to facilitate their return-to-sports, while minimizing long-term COVID-19 induced negative effects like the athletic objective and subjective perceived recovery and stress levels. Background—Patients affected by Long COVID often report shorter times spent doing physical activity (PA) after COVID-19. The aim of the present study was to evaluate potential associations between PA levels and parameters of physical function in a cohort of COVID-19 survivors with post-acute symptoms, with a particular focus on individuals aged 65 and older. Materials and methods—PA levels before and after COVID-19 were assessed in a sample of patients that had recovered from COVID-19 and were admitted to a post-acute outpatient service at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS (Rome, Italy). Participation in PA was operationalized as the engagement in leisure-time PA for at least 150 min per week in the last 3 months. Self-rated health and measures of physical performance and muscle strength were assessed. Results—Mean age of 1846 participants was 55.2 ± 14.4 years and 47% were women. Before COVID-19, inactivity was detected in 47% of the whole study population; only 28% maintained pre-COVID-19 PA engagement. Inactivity was more frequent in women. The stopping of physical activity was associated with increased BMI and CRP levels, lower vitamin D levels and a higher prevalence of post-COVID-19 fatigue, dyspnea, arthralgia, and myalgia. Active participants had higher handgrip strength and performed better on both the six-minute walking test (6MWT) and at the one-minute sit-to-stand test (1MSTST). In particular, at the 6MWT, participants 65 and older that were still active after COVID-19 walked 32 m more than sedentary peers. Moreover, the distance covered was 28 m more than those who were active only before COVID-19 (p = 0.05). Formerly active subjects performed similarly at the 6MWT to inactive participants. PA was associated with better self-rated health. Conclusions—Our findings reveal that inactivity is frequent in the post-acute COVID-19 phase. Stopping physical activity after COVID-19 results in measures of performance that are comparable to those who were never active. Background Periods of prolonged lockdown increase the risk of physical inactivity, which can contribute to physical decline among older adults. Online technology could be an innovative solution to promote physical activity (PA) habits in this context. The goal of this study was to examine and compare the acceptability, feasibility, and potential benefits of 2 modalities of web-based PA interventions in older adults during the coronavirus disease 2019 lockdown. Methods Eighty-three nonphysically active community-dwelling older adults (aged 60 and older) were randomized to a 12-week web-based PA intervention delivered either in a live group (LG; n = 38) or a recorded group (RG; n = 45). Acceptability, feasibility as well as functional capacities, physical performance, quality of life, and PA level were assessed pre and postintervention. Results There were fewer dropouts in the LG than RG (LG: 16% vs RG: 46%). However, adherence rate (LG: 89%; RG: 81%), level of satisfaction (LG: 77% vs RG: 64%), and enjoyment (LG: 68% vs RG: 62%) were similar across groups, even if the participants found the intervention slightly difficult (LG: 58% vs RG: 63%). Both groups significantly improved on functional capacities, physical performance, and quality of life. Only the LG showed significant improvements in perceived health and PA level. The LG showed greater improvements in physical performance and quality of life than the RG. Conclusion Web-based PA interventions are feasible, acceptable, and beneficial for improving functional capacities and physical performance during periods of lockdown. This article suggests that a partial contradiction between mobility and immobility was true for prepandemic physical mobility only and that, currently, the distinction between mobile and immobile individuals has turned fully relational. Fixity constitutes a voluntary condition, whereas immobility is perceived as an imposed one. The major dimensions for physical immobility are restraints for work and travel. Digital–virtual immobility can be measured via network capital, which includes access to networks and communications, leading to location-free information. Mobile communications are now globally ubiquitous, so that absolute digital immobility is currently almost nonexistent, thus turning digital (im)mobility into a continuum. Coronavirus lockdowns restricted individuals' physical mobility for commuting and other travel while turning physical immobility into a medical benefit, whereas being physically mobile involved risk. Lockdowns further involved "immobile mobility," with people being highly engaged in digital mobilities while being simultaneously situated in physical immobility. Once physical mobility is fully restored, individuals might prefer some partial and rather voluntary physical immobilities because of coronavirus habitual changes, for both work and travel, coupled with semi-imposed physical immobilities by employers. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) infection has been associated with musculoskeletal manifestations, including a negative effect on bone health. Bone formation was found to be reduced in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. The aim of this case-control study was to determine whether bone metabolism is coupled or uncoupled in COVID-19 patients with moderately severe disease, the latter expressed by the requirement of hospitalization but not intensive care treatment, no need for mechanical ventilation, and a C-reactive protein level of (median [quartiles], 16.0 [4.0; 52.8]) mg/L in serum. Besides standard biochemical markers, serum levels of C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, osteocalcin, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, sclerostin, dickkopf-1, and osteoprotegerin were evaluated in COVID-19-infected patients at the time of hospital admission, along with those of age- and sex-matched noninfected controls. The median age of the 14 female and 11 male infected patients included in the matched-pair analysis was (67 [53; 81]) years. C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen was significantly lower in COVID-19 patients (0.172 [0.097; 0.375] ng/mL) than in controls (0.462 [0.300; 0.649] ng/mL; p = 0.011). The patients' osteocalcin levels (10.50 [6.49; 16.26] ng/mL) were also lower than those of controls (15.33 [11.85, 19.63] ng/mL, p = 0.025). Serum levels of sclerostin and dickkopf-1 were significantly higher in infected patients relative to controls. The remaining parameters did not differ between cases and controls. A limitation of the study was that patients and controls were recruited from different hospitals. Nevertheless, due to the geographical proximity of the two centers, we assume that this fact did not influence the results of the study. Given this limitation, the investigation showed that bone metabolism is altered but remains coupled in patients with moderately severe COVID-19. Therefore, it is important to evaluate bone turnover markers and fracture risk in these patients during the postinfection period. © 2023 The Authors. We study the impact of a temporary U.S. paid sick leave mandate that became effective April 1st, 2020 on self-quarantining, proxied by physical mobility behaviors gleaned from cellular devices. We study this policy using generalized difference-in-differences methods, leveraging pre-policy county-level heterogeneity in the share of workers likely eligible for paid sick leave benefits. In recent years, obstacles to physical mobility, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, have hastened the turn towards online platforms for educational and social activities. Many study abroad programs have had to adapt to such circumstances and embrace virtual environments in the face of limited physical mobility. In this case study, we look at how one multi-university program, the UGPN Academy, was able to expand international student learning efforts despite travel limitations due, in part, to adapting to online communication technologies and environments. Through comparison of surveys administered to participants pre- and post-participation, students reported that having an online community as a source of social support, as well as learning about different experiences during a global pandemic, were two strengths of the program. In addition, students reported becoming more familiar with different online technologies as well as feeling more open to people from diverse backgrounds and international careers. These findings contribute to a further understanding of Internationalisation at Home (IaH) as a useful model that can be extremely valuable in its own right. Although IaH is not a replacement for physical mobility, it may provide its own benefits, such as providing a collaborative, diverse online community as a source of social and professional support, networking and opportunities for international learning experiences for students who are unable to participate in traditional study abroad programs. Diversifying and further integrating such virtual platforms can then be seen as a part of best practices rather than a replacement for traditional modes of international cultural exchange. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is reported to have long-term effects on cardiovascular health and physical functioning, even in the nonhospitalized population. The physiological mechanisms underlying these long-term consequences are however less well described. We compared cardiovascular risk factors, arterial stiffness, and physical functioning in nonhospitalized patients with COVID-19, at a median of 6 mo postinfection, versus age- and sex-matched controls. Cardiovascular risk was assessed using blood pressure and biomarker concentrations (amino-terminal pro-B-type-natriuretic-peptide, high-sensitive cardiac troponin I, C-reactive protein), and arterial stiffness was assessed using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity. Physical functioning was evaluated using accelerometry, handgrip strength, gait speed and questionnaires on fatigue, perceived general health status, and health-related quality of life (hrQoL). We included 101 former patients with COVID-19 (aged 59 [interquartile range, 55-65] yr, 58% male) and 101 controls. At 175 [126-235] days postinfection, 32% of the COVID-19 group reported residual symptoms, notably fatigue, and 7% required post-COVID-19 care. We found no differences in blood pressure, biomarker concentrations, or arterial stiffness between both groups. Former patients with COVID-19 showed a higher handgrip strength (43 [33-52] vs. 38 [30-48] kg, P = 0.004) and less sleeping time (8.8 [7.7-9.4] vs. 9.8 [8.9-10.3] h/day, P < 0.001) and reported fatigue more often than controls. Accelerometry-based habitual physical activity levels, gait speed, perception of general health status, and hrQoL were not different between groups. In conclusion, one in three nonhospitalized patients with COVID-19 reports residual symptoms at a median of 6 mo postinfection, but we were unable to relate these symptoms to increases in cardiovascular risk factors, arterial stiffness, or physical dysfunction. Objective: This study aimed to assess physical and mental health, and health-related quality of life (HRQL) parameters in adolescents with physical disabilities enrolled in a sports nongovernmental organization (NGO) versus adolescents without disabilities during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 30 adolescents with disabilities and 86 adolescents without disabilities who responded to an online questionnaire with sociodemographic data and self-rated healthcare routine information during the COVID-19 quarantine. Validated self-report versions of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL 4.0), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Pediatric Outcome Data Collection Instrument (PODCI) were also applied. Results: The median of emotional [4 (0–10) vs. 5 (0–10), p=0.018] and prosocial [7 (0–10) vs. 9 (3–10), p=0.006] problems was lower in adolescents with disabilities versus adolescents without disabilities. Adolescents with disabilities had significantly lower global function [68 (21–99) vs. 94 (67–100), p<0.001] and higher happiness scores in the PODCI scale [90 (65–100) vs. 80 (0–100), p=0.016] compared to controls. This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the association between ambulatory status at discharge and six-month post-discharge mortality among adults with coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We analyzed data from 398 patients aged over 18 admitted to a tertiary hospital in South Korea between December 2019 and June 2022. Patients were classified into two groups based on their ambulatory status at discharge: ambulatory (able to walk independently, n = 286) and non-ambulatory (unable to walk independently, requiring wheelchair or bed-bound, n = 112). Our analysis revealed that six-month survival rates were significantly higher in the ambulatory group (94.2%) compared to the non-ambulatory group (84.4%). Multivariate analysis identified ambulatory status at discharge (p = 0.047) and pre-existing malignancy (p = 0.007) as significant prognostic factors for post-discharge survival. This study highlights that the ability to walk independently at discharge is a crucial predictor of six-month survival in COVID-19 patients. These findings emphasize the need for interventions to improve the physical performance of non-ambulatory patients, potentially enhancing their survival prospects. Introduction: The mortality rate in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (HD) is high and is associated with low functional capacity (FC). We analyzed the association of FC and COVID‐19 lethality among HD patients. Methods: A cohort study that included evaluations of FC in patients on HD was underway, and the association between FC and lethality was included as an ad‐hoc outcome. Results: One hundred and twelve patients were submitted to a physical, 31 patients contracted symptomatic COVID‐19, 20 recovered and 11 died (lethality rate of 35.5%). There was a difference between survivors and non‐survivors on six‐minutes‐walking‐test (6MWT) 386.1 ± 112.8 versus 296.9 ± 103.3 meters (p = 0.04), 30 s sit‐to‐stand test (30CST) score 11.7 ± 3.1 versus 7.7 ± 4.1 (p = 0.006), and timed up and go test (TUG) 9.4 versus 13.6 s (p = 0.009). There was also an association between percentages of predicted 6MWT, 30CST, and TUG with COVID‐19 lethality. Lingering breathing difficulties are common after COVID‐19. However, the underlying causes remains unclear, with spirometry often being normal. We hypothesized that small airway dysfunction (SAD) can partly explain these symptoms. We examined 48 individuals (32 women, 4 hospitalized in the acute phase) who experienced dyspnea and/or cough in the acute phase and/or aftermath of COVID‐19, and 22 non‐COVID‐19 controls. Time since acute infection was, median (range), 65 (10–131) weeks. We assessed SAD using multiple breath washout (MBW) and impulse oscillometry (IOS) and included spirometry and diffusing‐capacity test (DLCO). One‐minute‐sit‐to‐stand test estimated physical function, and breathing difficulties were defined as answering "yes" to the question "do you experience lingering breathing difficulties?" Spirometry, DLCO, and IOS were normal in almost all cases (spirometry: 90%, DLCO: 98%, IOS: 88%), while MBW identified ventilation inhomogeneity in 50%. Breathing difficulties (n = 21) was associated with increased MBW‐derived Sacin. However, physical function did not correlate with SAD. Among individuals with breathing difficulties, 25% had reduced physical function, 25% had SAD, 35% had both, and 15% had normal lung function and physical function. Despite spirometry and DLCO being normal in almost all post‐COVID‐19 individuals, SAD was present in a high proportion and was associated with lingering breathing difficulties. Despite the lifting of COVID‐19 restrictions eventually, the destabilising consequences of the pandemic on migration persist and continue to worsen. Based on in‐depth interviews with 25 Chinese international students, this paper asks what new forms of education transnationality are being introduced by the intersection of digital mobility and physical immobility. Using Henri Lefebvre's (2004) rhythmanalysis, we understand stay‐at‐home international students' sensual and physical experiences as palpable aspects of daily existence that not only constitute transnational lived temporalities but also trigger 'small accidents', leading to potentially larger‐scale temporal changes. By attending to the dynamic interaction between their agency and the external structure, we conclude that situated corporeal and emotional suffering, embodied transitioning strategies, and changes to mobility pathways make up the fabric of the immobile everydayness of the new 'grafted transnationalism'. This paper contributes to the existing scholarship on transnational education by highlighting the dual sense of exclusion that students experience in both corporeal and social time, as well as the multilayered possibilities of reorientation as their way of regaining control of dyssynchronous rhythmic encounters. Since the first case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2/Coronavirus Disease 2019 (SARS-COV-2/COVID-19) was discovered in Wuhan, China, it spread to vast limits globally and became a public health disaster, affecting nearly all countries around the globe. Along with mainstream medical treatment, alternative medicine desperately was the need of the hour for youngsters to manage their symptoms while being self-quarantined and ultimately to improve their chances of survival and recovery from COVID-19. Since the beginning of SARS-COV-2, few studies address the clinical-functional presentation of viral infection and management with physiotherapy for children. Major online electronic databases PubMed, PEDro, and Google Scholar were researched to identify, organize and commission the current review. To create a search strategy, Medical Subject Headings and Descriptors of Science and Health were utilized. The authors looked for other studies by screening the references list of the potentially pertinent papers. These computerized searches turned up studies and those studies' bibliographies with pertinent citations were examined. Personal protective equipment was a crucial component for protection and contact precaution. Following hypoxia, effective oxygen therapy is administered right away. When necessary, under the right circumstances, nasal high-flow oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation, lung-protective breathing methods, and prone positioning can be used. Children with SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 may benefit from physiotherapy interventions with a focus on ventilatory management, airway clearance procedures, early activities, and mobilization. Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness (ICUAW) on the functional independence of patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) over 6 months after ICU discharge. Methods This was a prospective cohort study that included patients who were admitted to the ICU because of COVID-19 and who were monitored for 6 months after discharge from the ICU via telephone. Patients were evaluated at 3 times (30 days, 3 months, and 6 months after discharge from the ICU) for functional independence for personal care and mobility activities (Barthel Scale), independence for self-care (Katz Index), impact of COVID-19 on functional status (post–COVID-19 Functional Status Scale [PCFS]), and mobility level (ICU Mobility Scale). The existence of some degree of dependence was considered when the Barthel Scale score was <100 points, the Katz Index was ≥1, and the PCFS score was ≥1. A PCFS score of ≥3 indicated moderate or severe dependence. Patients with a Medical Research Council score of <48 at discharge from the ICU were diagnosed with ICUAW. Results Sixty-eight patients were included, with a mean age of 51 (SD = 13) years. The ICUAW rate at ICU discharge was 35%. In the evaluation with the PCFS, the values for the presence of any functional limitation at 30 days, 3 months, and 6 months after ICU discharge were 89.7%, 57.4%, and 38.2%, respectively. The rate of persistence of functional limitations after 6 months was higher in patients with ICUAW than in those without ICUAW (66.7% vs 22.8%; P  = .000); the same was true for moderate or severe limitations (20.8% vs 4.5%; P  = .035). Likewise, functional independence for personal care, mobility, and self-care activities was poorer in patients with ICUAW. Conclusions In patients surviving an ICU stay due to COVID-19, decreased functional independence persists even 6 months after discharge, and patients with ICUAW have worse outcomes. Echolocation is used by people with low vision or blindness to support their navigation. Internationally, Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialists have learned echolocation skills and how to teach them to clients, through formal workshops with a subject matter expert. However, COVID-19 has limited access to these in-person professional development opportunities. This study investigated whether an O&M professional could learn echolocation skills in a self-paced programme with only the support of a lay assistant. We developed the EchoRead Programme to equip an individual O&M Specialist to learn basic echolocation skills in 4 hours. This auto-ethnographical perspective describes how the draft programme was trialled by one trainee O&M Specialist in her home and local neighbourhood. She developed sufficient skills to complete most of the seated, standing, and walking tasks in the programme, but needed more support developing tongue-clicking and recognising driveways when shorelining fences. She found it was important to use learning environments that were graduated in physical and audio complexity. The EchoRead Programme was then trialled and revised by an experienced O&M Specialist, beginning at home, then exploring a range of venues available within a 5 km radius – the roaming range allowed during COVID lockdown. The resulting EchoRead Programme can equip O&M professionals to be self-directed in learning early echolocation skills, using online and locally available resources. This programme could be especially useful for vision professionals and their clients, who have limited access to in-person learning opportunities with colleagues or peers because of geographical isolation, low resources, or a global pandemic. After lockdowns and school closings associated with COVID-19 began throughout the United States and Canada in March 2020, this research was completed to explore how the pandemic affected access to orientation and mobility (O&M) services. Using qualititave responses from a mixed methodology study, this article reports the findings from 318 individuals, including both O&M specialists and dually certified teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) and O&M specialists. Four major themes emerged through data analysis, including (1) prioritization of O&M goals for students with visual impairments, (2) personal factors affecting access to O&M training, (3) access to O&M services through virtual learning, and (4) creative approaches to O&M instruction during the pandemic. Within these themes, professionals, students, and families alike were asked to assume roles that went beyond traditional expectations. Questions and concerns that professionals in the field need to consider when looking at the future of O&M services were raised as part of this research, including a number of ideas for future studies. Background: Few studies have looked at how SARS-CoV-2 affects pulmonary function, exercise capacity, and health-related quality of life over time. The purpose of this study was to evaluate these characteristics in post COVID-19 subjects 1 year after recovery. Methods: The study included two groups. The case group included post COVID-19 subjects who had recovered after a year, and the control group included healthy participants who had never tested positive for COVID-19. Results: The study screened 90 participants, 42 of whom met the eligibility criteria. The findings revealed that the majority of post COVID-19 subjects had relatively normal lung function 1-year post-recovery. A significant reduction in DLCO (B/P%) was observed in the case group vs. control. The exercise capacity test revealed a clinically significant difference in distance walked and a significant difference in the dyspnea post-walk test in the case group compared to the control group. The case group's health-related quality of life domain scores were significantly affected in terms of energy/fatigue, general health, and physical function. Conclusions: The post COVID-19 subjects were shown to have well-preserved lung function after 1 year. Pandemics, such as the emergence of COVID-19, have their roots in the intricate interplay across animals, humans and the environment. The transition from epidemics to full-blown pandemics can be visualized as the proliferation and spread of transmissions across a web of interlinked networks. These networks encompass not only human-human interactions but also encompass animals, inanimate objects, and elements within the environment. Human civilization has seen an unprecedented increase in the mobilities of humans, animals and artefacts, and formation of innumerable interconnections across them as well as with the environment. Furthermore, there is widespread expansions of these networks, and a global reach. These are in a state of constant flux due to increasing mobilities of their individual nodes as well as their corresponding networks. The interactions occur across predefined pathways (eg. along transport routes) or more randomly (eg. floating atmospheric pollutants). The concept of "Dynamic Physical Hyperconnectivity" is proposed to capture the situation when there is synchronization or approximation of these high-mobility networks, creating the environment for very close physical connectivities of nodes across adjacent networks. If multiple networks coincide, the connectivities can occur across the globe. This hypothesis could explain the swift worldwide spread of COVID-19 virus during the pandemic, and is supported by preliminary data. If this is proven with modelling, it implies that mitigation of pandemics such as COVID-19 requires a multifaceted approach that curtails the velocity of agent mobility, minimizes interaction frequencies, reduces node mobility scope, and disentangles interwoven networks. Background: Life during the COVID-19 pandemic was miserable, most of the people were in a panic situation either because of being affected by COVID-19 or losing their near and dear ones. Majority of Indian population was in the trauma condition impacting physical and mental health directly or indirectly either due to the infection or repeated lockdowns. Aim: The present study was carried out to gain knowledge of people's physical and mental health such as anxiety, depression, and stress during the period of the pandemic in the year 2021. Material and methods: The standard questionnaires were used to conduct the online survey using google form. The questionnaire contains five sections and collects the information on anxiety, stress, depression, and physical activities. The survey started on May 23, 2021, and ended on June 2, 2021 by circulating the link through emails, WhatsApp, and messages. Result: A total of 291 people participated in this survey process and all responses were analyzed, out of which 165 were men and 126 were women. It was calculated that 59.4% of men and 40.6% of women were affected by COVID-19. Total 49.5% of people affected by COVID-19 were in favor of improvement in physical and mental performance while taking dietary supplements. Whereas 19.8% denied the statement and 28.7% of people saw slight changes in their health status. Conclusions: During the pandemic people were mostly affected by anxiety, depression, stress, and physical health and to cope with these situations dietary supplements surely be the utilitarian for the society. Through this study, it was found that if a person includes both exercise and nutraceutical products in their lifestyle, there will be a chance of living a sustainable and healthy life. To investigate the feasibility of using teleassessments for enrolling people with mobility impairment into a home-based exercise trial. The feasibility study involved data collection at one time point, during the teleassessment session. In response to the limited operations due to pandemic, a modified data collection protocol was developed for virtual enrollment of study participants into a large randomized controlled study that aims to deliver exercise via telehealth for people with physical disabilities. A convenient sample of 36 participants enrolling in the SUPER-HEALTH trial and who completed teleassessment were analyzed as part of this feasibility study. The modified protocol utilized a computer tablet and testing equipment was shipped to the participants' home address prior to the synchronous teleassessments conducted by an exercise physiologist through Zoom. Participants were mailed a teleassessment toolkit that included a digital blood pressure cuff, spirometer, dynamometer, mini cone, and measuring tape and tests included resting blood pressure and heart rate, forced vital capacity, grip strength, Five Times Sit to Stand, and Timed Up and Go. Feasibility metrics included technological effectiveness, efficiency, and safety. Effectiveness of telehealth assessment was determined by the percentage of sessions completed without technical issues with ≥ 90% criteria set a priori. Efficiency was measured by the the duration of sessions with ≤ 2 hour criteria set a prior. Safety was measured by number of adverse events related to teleassessments reported. Data from 36 participants were included in this feasibility study and 34 participants completed all teleassessments without technical issues (94.4%). For efficiency, the teleassessments sessions were completed in a mean time of 65 minutes and a maximum session length of 110 minutes. There were no adverse events reported to indicate concerns with safety of teleassessments. The modified teleassessment protocol, in response to COVID-19 restrictions, has shown to be a feasible process for enrolling adults with mobility impairment into a home exercise trial who otherwise would have not been able to participate. Background: A post-COVID condition can reduce activity and quality of life, resulting in a significant socioeconomic and health burden. Understanding its impact on patients' health is important for the development of personalized rehabilitation interventions. An independent association between obesity and post-COVID condition was found because of complications and comorbidities. Methods: Sixteen patients with obesity and post-COVID symptoms (i.e., dyspnea, pain, poor sleep quality, muscle fatigue), admitted to the Istituto Auxologico Italiano, Piancavallo (VB), Italy, were recruited for a four-week rehabilitation program including conventional exercise therapy, nutritional intervention, psychological support and whole-body cryostimulation (WBC). Results: All participants attended all sessions of the program. Anthropometric data showed statistically significant changes in weight, waist circumference and body mass index. Biochemical analyses showed significant reductions in lipid and inflammatory profiles. There was a significant improvement in physical performance, reduction in pain and improvement in psychological well-being. Conclusion: A multidisciplinary rehabilitation protocol including WBC, designed for patients with obesity and a post-COVID condition, is safe and feasible. The overall improvements demonstrate that multidisciplinary rehabilitation was effective on post COVID patients and suggest that the use of WBC is safe and could play a role as a booster in rehabilitation programs. In survivors of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) incomplete mental and physical recovery may considerably impact daily activities and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). HRQoL can be evaluated with the RAND-36 questionnaire, a multidimensional instrument that assesses physical and mental aspects of health in eight dimensions. The objective was to investigate HRQoL in intensive care patients previously treated for COVID-19 at three Nordic university hospitals, in a prospective multi-center cohort study. HRQoL was measured using RAND-36, 3–9 months after discharge from intensive care units (ICU). One hospital performed a second follow-up 12 months after discharge. A score under the lower limit of the 95% confidence interval in the reference cohorts was considered as significantly reduced HRQoL. We screened 542 and included 252 patients. There was more than twice as many male (174) as female (78) patients and the median age was 61 (interquartile range, IQR 52–69) years. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity observed in 132 (52%) patients and 121 (48%) patients were mechanically ventilated for a median of 8 (IQR 4–14) days. In RAND-36 physical functioning, physical role functioning, general health (p < 0.001 for all) and social functioning (p < 0.05) were below reference, whereas bodily pain, emotional role functioning and mental health were not. In a time-to-event analysis female sex was associated with a decreased chance of reaching the reference HRQoL in the physical function, bodily pain and mental health dimensions. Higher body mass index was found in the physical functioning dimension and hypertension in the physical functioning, vitality and social functioning dimensions. Similar results were seen for diabetes mellitus in general health, vitality and mental health dimensions, as well as pulmonary illness in the physical role functioning dimension and psychiatric diagnosis in the social functioning dimension. Mechanical ventilation was associated with a decreased likelihood of achieving reference HRQoL in the bodily pain and physical functioning dimensions. Patients treated in an ICU because of COVID-19 had lower HRQoL 3–9 months after ICU discharge than 95% of the general population. Physical dimensions were more severely affected than mental dimensions. Female sex and several comorbidities were associated with a slower rate of recovery.
