Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) has a economic and strategic importance that provides raw materials to the textile sector. Efforts are being made to increase cotton yield and fiber quality through breeding studies carried out in the world and in Türkiye. It is necessary to determine the yield and yield criteria of the genotypes to be included in the breeding programs and to determine their superiority compared to the control varieties. In this research carried out for this purpose, 165 cotton genotypes were tested to determine yield and yield components. The trial was carried out in 2019 in the experimental area of Siirt University Faculty of Agriculture, Field Crops Department, in 4 blocks according to the Augmented trial design, and 165 genotype materials, including 160 cotton genotypes and 5 control varieties (Stoneville 468, BA 119, BA 440, Edessa, Lima) was used as plant material. In the study, seed cotton yield, plant height, number of monopodial and sympodial branches, number of nodes and number of bolls were examined. Results showed that the highest seed cotton yield were obtained from MNH-786, Dpl-5540-85-subokra and Mex 123 cotton genotypes and that these genotypes showed the highest values than the superior control variety. Deltapine 5816, Stoneville 213 and CIM-70 genotypes were found to be promising for plant height, VH 260, Stoneville 213 and Tamcot Sphinx for sympodial branches, and Deltapine 905, NIAB 777, Tonia and Stoneville 213 genotypes for boll number. The findings showed that there is a wide genetic variability among cotton genotypes in terms of yield and yield component, genotypes with ideal values in terms of desired characteristics can be used as parents in cotton breeding program and new cotton genotypes suitable for the textile sector can be obtained. COTTON fibers , *SEED yield , *COTTONSEED , *COTTON quality , *BLOCK designs , *COTTON - Abstract
Evaluating the cultivars' performance is an important step in the cotton breeding process. Therefore, we tested the yield, fiber quality and within-boll yield components of genotypes, and associations among observed characters were estimated. Ten cotton genotypes inc., Bomba, Özbek 100, Ramses, May 455, Bir 949, Fiona, Şahin 2000, Sahra, Sasha and Eva, were planted in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications in 2022. The highest seed cotton yield was recorded in Sasha and Bomba genotypes. Ramses performed the higher ginning out-turn (47.70%) and favorable fiber fineness (4.62 mic.). Bir 949 (32.65 mm), Ramses (31.49 mm) and Sasha (31.31 mm) for fiber length; Sasha (35.18 g tex-1 ) and Sahra (34.08 g tex-1 ) for fiber strength exhibited desirable performances. The highest relative leaf water content (%) as a drought indicator was recorded in Ramses (67.79), Fiona (67.45), Şahin 2000 (65.25) and Bomba (65.11). The number of fibers per seed ranged from 10.82 thousand (Özbek 100) to 13.00 thousand (Bir 949). It was concluded that it seemed difficult to associate the seed cotton yield, fiber quality and relative leaf water content. Therefore, the genotypes in which all three traits are optimized should be emphasized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study Canakkale ecological conditions at different levels of irrigated Nazilli-84 cotton variety (Gossypium hirsutum L.) fiber quality parameters specified for the purpose in 2010-2011 between the randomized block design with 3 replications was conducted as. In the study material in the area cultivated cotton varieties Nazilli-84 was used. Obtained from irrigated cotton grown at different levels of fiber and seed Kutlu ginning and fiber quality parameters of the fiber fineness, fiber length and strength values were obtained. According to the results obtained in this study ginning evaluation is made in terms of the difference between the 0.05 significance level irrigation practices differences were observed. Full irrigation and 2/3 irrigation, while in the same group with the lowest level of irrigation irrigation third took place in other groups. Fiber fineness are concerned the best results were obtained at 2/3 irrigation. Full and 1/3 irrigation the application obtained from the fineness of the fibers located in the same group and the statistical significance level of 0.05 was observed differences between the two applications. When evaluated in terms of fiber length full irrigation value of long fibers while the other two irrigation application 0.05 significance level was different. Fiber strength when subjected to statistical evaluation values the 0.05 significance level differences were observed and create two different groups. Strength fibers obtained from the application of water was 2/3 irrigation. As a result, in agricultural areas in Çanakkale reduction in the amount of cotton acreage to stop the practices that have led to improvements in the efficiency of the next election, which will reduce input costs should be taken to make the application more than necessary. For this reason, determining the level of irrigation for cotton farming Çanakkale is of great importance. Terrain and irrigation water quality, subject to the most appropriate application of the soil to field capacity to bring irrigation practices would be appropriate, but irrigation shortages where cotton acreage for the protection, field capacity, 2/3 of the irrigation practices also would be appropriate to say. Linear Polyacrylamide (LPA) is one of the polymers used as a yield-enhancing agent in DNA isolation of short and small molecular weight DNA molecules. The Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) method is widely used to elucidate DNAProtein interactions. In ChIP, which consists of many successive steps, it is an important problem to experience losses due to the small size of the DNA fragments during the re-isolation of the sheared DNA fragments. In this study, the effect of using LPA matrix on the isolation of small molecular weight DNA fragments with higher efficiency in the ChIP method applied to cotton plant, which is a eukaryotic organism with high commercial value in our country and in the world, was investigated. Here, the ChIP method was adapted and applied till the DNA fragmentation process by ultrasonication and the isolation of the fragmented DNA molecules. In statistical analyzes, the concentrations of DNA isolates used at the beginning of the ChIP experiment and the DNA molecules mechanically fragmented by ultrasonication, measured by the Nanodrop, were compared in ng/µl. Experimental and statistical analyzes showed that LPA application increased DNA isolation efficiency by 0.59 times. Based on these data, it has been proven that using LPA in ChIP method with cotton will directly affect the success of the experiment and contribute to get much more efficient results. This study is unique in that it focuses on improving the yield of sheared DNA isolation in direct cotton plant-specific ChIP application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PLANT spacing , *EXPERIMENTAL agriculture , *CULTIVARS , *PLANT yields , *PLANT growth , *COTTON - Abstract
Plant growth, flowering, square and boll formation are significantly affected by plant density in cotton production. The research was carried out in the field of experimental Özaltın Agriculture Company Experiment Fields in 2019 with four replication according to the split plot design with two different cotton genotypes with open (Karayel) type and closters (Lodos) type under five different plant densities (7,000 plants/da, 14,000 plants/da, 21,000 plants/da, 28,000 plants/da and 35,000 plants/da). The aim of the study was to determine the effects of different plant densities on yield, yield components and fiber quality characteristics of cotton varieties with different plant types (different boll distribution on branch of plant). With the increase in plant density (28,000 and 35,000 plants/da), plant height, number of fruit branches, number of vegatatif branches, boll weight, boll number were decrased, on the other hand the number of node on the first fruit branch, the first hand harvest rate, the number of days of opening the first boll, micronare values were increased. It was determined that there was no significant effect on fiber quality properties and lint percentage except for micronaire. Cotton varieties with different cotton biomass architecture such as open type and closter type showed different reactions in terms of cotton boll yield at different plant densities. According to the mean of both cultivars in each plant density, the highest boll yield (649.4 kg/da) and fiber yield (275.8 kg/da) were obtained from plant density of 14,000 plants/da. When genotype x plant density interaction is evaluated in terms of cotton boll yield, the plant density in genotypes with open boll distribution type should not be more than 21,000 plants/da plant density; It was determined that plant density should not be less than 14,000 plants/da for the cotton genotypes with closter boll distribution type.

- Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the limits of variation in fiber quality characteristics of cotton varieties produced in Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır, two important provinces where cotton production is intense in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye, and to reveal the fiber quality values of the region. This study was carried out under the coordination of GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center within the scope of the EU/PA Project "Regional Industrial Collaboration in Cotton Fibre Manufacturing Project". In the study, 1090 fiber samples, belonging to six different cotton varieties collected from ginning factories in Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır provinces, were used as material. The analysis was performed using High Volume Instrument (HVI). In the frequency distribution, it was determined that cotton fibers produced in the region were in the middle and long fiber group in terms of fiber length, they were in the middle, strong and very strong group in terms of fiber strength, and the material was generally in the medium and thick group in terms of fiber fineness. Most of the material was taken place in the medium group for fiber uniformity; very low and low for short fiber index; high and medium for elongation; mature and very mature for fiber maturity. The results of the spinning consistency index showed that 59.2% of the material changed between 119.41 to 135.83 and 31.3% of the materials changed from 135.83 to 152.24. The 58.2% of the material had 74 and higher brightness values, while the material was taken place in the white and slightly white color group and the majority of the material (65%) had low trash content. The results of this study indicated that cotton fibers produced in the Southeastern Anatolia Region have superior quality values that meet the demands of the textile industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COTTON yields , *PAPER industry , *GLYPHOSATE - Abstract
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is used as the raw material in more than fifty industries and is also the main source of raw materials used in the textile, the oil, the animal feed, and the paper industries. Additionally, it is a crop of great economic importance for its producer countries with the added value and employment opportunities. Cotton is among the crops sensitive to weed competition and its yield decreases with the weeds. For this reason, weed control treatments should be employed effectively to obtain high yields in cotton fields. In the recent years, Ipomoea triloba (IPOTR), which has increased in its importance in the agricultural areas of the Mediterranean Region, prevents the development of the cotton because of its invasive features and causes the harvest difficulties during by hand or machine harvest. The aim of this study is to create an effective control program against IPOTR in cotton. Field experiments were carried out in Ceyhan, Adana, Turkey in 2018 and 2019. For this purpose, impact of the treatments including Pyroxasulfone 85% (PYRS) Trifloxysulfuron sodium 75% (TRFS), Pyrithiobac-sodium 383 g/l (PYBS), Glyphosate isopropylamine salt 480 g/l (GLYI), S-metolachlor 915 g/l + Benoxacor 45 g/l + hand hoe (SMEC), inter-row rotary hoe + intra-row hand hoe (FÇEÇ) were investigated 28 day-after treatment and at the harvest during two years. It has been determined that TRFS and PYBS have an efficacy over 90%, while FÇEÇ, SMEÇ, TRFS and PYBS applications have an efficacy over 60%. Applications against IPOTR have increased the cotton lint and yield. However, crop injury was observed after GLYI application (20%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was conducted to determine the effects of different depth three drip irrigation systems (surface drip irrigation (SDI), subsurface drip irrigation (SSDI30 and 40 cm) and different amount of irrigation water [125%, 100% and 75% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc)] on cotton wilt disease (Verticillium dahlia). The study was conducted in Diyarbakır in 2016-2017. According to the average results (2 experimental years), there were considerably differences between different depth drip irrigation systems and amount of irrigation water. The highest disease severity (DS) (1.29) occurred in surface drip irrigation system application. The lowest disease severity (0.88) was obtained from the SSDI-40 cm. In addition, as long as increasing amount of irrigation water, the DS increased. Considering the disease rates (DR), there was no statistically significant difference between different drip irrigation systems. However, the highest rate of disease among drip irrigation systems (51.9%) was observed in the parcels where the surface drip irrigation (SDI) system was applied. The disease rate has increased with the increase in the amount of irrigation water. Cotton wilt disease severity and disease rates according to the amount of irrigation water were found to be statistically significant in both years of the study. In the study, the highest disease rate value (72.6%) was obtained from the parcels where 125% of the plant water consumption was applied. In order to control cotton wilt disease in the contaminated areas, subsurface drip irrigation and amount of irrigation water as well as actual crop evapotranspiration should be applied.
