A novel, mixed-valent copper(I)-copper(II) complex, {[bis(ethylene-diamine)copper(II)] bis[diiodocuprate(I)]} (1), has been prepared by electrochemical dissolution of a sacrificial copper anode in a solution of ethylenediamine (en), I2 and tetraethylammoniumperchlorate (TEAP) as supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile (AcN)and characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure determination. The crystal structure of the complex 1 shows that it consists of a CuI2 polymer formed from I- ligands bridging Cu(I) ions, with a nearly square planar geometry of bivalent Cu(II) atoms chelated by two ethylenediamine ligands. The results also show that direct electrosynthesis of the complex had high current efficiency, purity and electrolysis yield.

A variety of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines were oxidized to their corresponding pyridines in high yields in the presence of Cu(C22H22N2O2) in refluxing acetic acid.

Abstract. The metal organic framework, [Cu5(C5H2N2O3)4(H2O)4(NO3)2 ·10H2O] n ( 1), was synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction via copper nitrate and in situ generated 3-hydroxopyrazine-2-carboxylate from 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylic acid. Compound 1 was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, TG analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It has a 3D structure constructed from Cu2+ cations, bridging NO3- anions, and 3-hydroxopyrazine-2-carboxylate units. The NO3- anions act as μ2-bridging ligand and the 3-hydroxopyrazine-2-carboxylate units coordinate pentadentately through the two oxygen atoms of their carboxylate group, the oxygen atom of the hydroxyl group and two nitrogen atoms. The ligands link the CuII ions to form trinuclear units. These are further connected to form a novel 3D MOF, with a novel 4-nodal 3,3,3,4-connected net topology of an unprecedented point (Schläfli) symbol (6.7.9)(64.8.9)(7.102)(72.10). The crystal and molecular structures of [Cu(4-ampc)2]BPh4 1 were determined by X-ray crystallography from a single-crystal. The coordination polyhedron about copper(I) is best described as a distorted tetrahedron. Quasireversible and irriversible redox behaviors were observed for 1 and 2, respectively. The ligand, N,N'-bis-(4-methoxy-benzylidene)-ethane-1,2-diamine (mb2en), and its corresponding copper(I) complexes, [Cu(mb2en)2]ClO4 (1), and [Cu(mb2en)(PPh3)2]BPh4 (2), have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analyses, 1H and 13C-NMR, IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopies. The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(mb2en)2]ClO4 (1), were determined by X-ray crystallography from a single-crystal. The coordination polyhedron about copper(I) is best described as a distorted tetrahedron. Quasi-irreversible redox behavior was observed for 1 and 2 (E1/2 = 0.55 and 0.95 V, respectively). Four copper(I) complexes, [Cu(diimine)2]ClO4 (1 - 4, Diimine[dbnd](4-fluorophenyl)pyridin-2-ylmethylene-amine, (1) (4-chlorophenyl)pyridin-2-ylmethyleneamine, (2), (4-bromophenyl)pyridin-2-ylmethyleneamine, (3), and (4-iodophenyl)pyridin-2-ylmethyleneamine, (4)) have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analyses, 1H NMR, IR, and UV - vis spectroscopy. The crystal structure of [Cu(B)2]ClO4 (2) was determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination polyhedron about the copper(I) center in 2 is best described as a distorted tetrahedron. A quasi-reversible redox behavior is observed for the complexes. The spectral, structural, and redox data of these complexes are compared with similar iminopyridine copper(I) complexes. The variation of substituent on the phenyl ring of iminopyridine ligands did not show significant change in the absorption and redox properties of these types of complexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
