In this paper, three isostructural 1D lanthanide complexes, [Ln(dppc)(H2O)4]n·2nH2O (Ln = Eu, Tb and Eu0.501Tb0.499, named 1-Eu, 2-Tb and Eu0.501Tb0.499), based on 3-(2,4-dicarboxylate phenyl)-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid (H3dppc) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, PXRD, TG and X-ray crystallography. The complexes exhibit a 1D chain structure, which is further linked into a 3D supramolecular framework by hydrogen bonds. Tuneable emission colour of Eu0.501Tb0.499 is realized by adjusting the excitation wavelength. The sensing properties of 1-Eu and 2-Tb towards Fe3+ and aniline indicate that the two complexes have almost the same superior sensitivity and low detection limit for Fe3+ in aqueous solution, while they have different detection abilities for aniline in DMF solvent. The different detection abilities were discussed by means of PXRD, UV-vis, luminescence lifetimes and molecular surface calculations (Hirshfeld surface analysis and 2D fingerprint plots). A series of isostructural lanthanide coordination polymers (Ln-CPs) formulated as [Ln(tcptpy)(H2O)2·2H2O]n {Ln3+ = Sm3+ (1), Eu3+ (2), Gd3+ (3), Tb3+ (4), Dy3+ (5); H3tcptpy = 4-(2,4,6-tricarboxylphenyl)-4,2′:6′,4′′-terpyridine} has been afforded and characterized systematically. Their structures were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All the complexes feature two dimensional (2D) layers with (4,4)-connected topology. By virtue of the isostructural frameworks, a family of binary co-doped Ln-CPs [Tb1−xEuxtcptpy]n was achieved for ratiometric temperature sensors, among which Tb0.897Eu0.103tcptpy exhibits a good linear response to the temperature range from 305–340 K, with a maximum relative sensitivity (Sm) of 8.41% K−1 at 340 K. Moreover, Tb-CPs exhibit excellent applications as luminescent sensors for the detection of nitrobenzene and Fe3+ cations with high selectivity and sensitivity based on a luminescence quenching approach. Two unique lanthanide coordination polymers, namely, {[Ln 2 (μ 3 -OH) 2 (Tfpht) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ·0.5bipy]} n (Ln = Gd (1) and Eu (2), H 2 Tfpht = 3,4,5,6-Tetrafluorophthalic acid, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been afforded successfully. The coordination polymers 1 and 2 are isostructural and have the same phase, both crystallizing in the triclinic system, with space group of P −1. They both exhibit one-dimensional (1-D) ribbon-double chains composed of trinuclear lanthanide clusters bridged by μ 3 -hydroxyl bridges and carboxyl oxygen atoms of Tfpht2− ligands, and the chains are further linked by hydrogen bonding interactions to give rise to a 2-D corrugated layer. The solid state luminescence emission spectra of coordination polymer 1 is based on the H 2 Tfpht acid ligand, whereas 2 displays the characteristic f - f transitions of Eu(III) ions. The direct-current (dc) magnetic susceptibility studies reveal the weak ferromagnetic interaction between the Gd(III) ions in coordination polymer 1. Abstract A series of lanthanide coordination polymers, [Ln (Btca) (Pimda)·2H 2 O] n (Ln = Nd(1), Sm(2), Eu(3), Gd(4), Tb(5), Dy(6)), (HBtca = 1H-benzo[d][1, 2, 3]triazole-5-carboxylic acid and H 3 Pimda = 2-propyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid) have been obtained through moderate temperature hydrothermal syntheses. Single crystal X-ray analyses reveal the family of polymers exhibit same 1D chains composed by binuclear units, and further being extended into 2D layer connected by H 3 Pimda. The 2D layers are further interlinked by strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds interactions, resulting in the 3D supramolecular architectures. The solid state of 4 shows ligand based fluorescence, while 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 and 6 exhibit strong/moderate photoluminescence emissions in the NIR/visible regions based on characteristic Ln3+ emission selected. Importantly, by in situ doping different concentrations of Eu3+ and Tb3+ cations, series of Eu3+/Tb3+ binary polymers were fabricated, showing a tunable emission color from green, yellow, orange to red. Moreover, the magnetic studies reveal the presence of very weak ferromagnetic Gd···Gd coupling within the binuclear units of 4. The depopulation of Stark components at low temperature and possible weak anti-ferromagnetic interactions were observed within polymers 2 and 5. Remarkably, ac magnetic susceptibility study reveals the Dy3+ polymer is a candidate for elucidation of slow relaxation of the magnetization in lanthanide carboxylate system. Two three dimensional (3D) Co(II) coordination polymers incorporating similar substituted imidazole-dicarboxylate and dipyridyl-type ancillary ligands pillared layer, namely, {Co 3 (mimda 3 − ) 2 (bpe) 3 ·3H 2 O} n ( 1 ) and {Co 3 (eimda 3 − ) 2 (bipy) 3 ·8H 2 O} n ( 2 ) (H 3 mimda = 1H-2-methyl-4,5-imidazole-dicarboxylic acid, while H 3 eimda = 1H-2-ethyl-4,5-imidazole-dicarboxylic acid, bpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl) ethylene and bipy = 4, 4′-bipyridine) have been successfully synthesized. Both polymers 1 and 2 have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). X-ray structural analysis reveals that they are nearly isostructural, possessing similar symmetry units based on trinuclear clusters, and further is propagated into a Kagomé-like lattice. The lattice consists of corner-sharing triangles of spins with magnetic coupling between the nearest neighboring Co(II) ions. Magnetic measurements revealed spin-canting-like antiferromagnetism behaviors for compounds 1 and 2 at lower temperature. Reactions between later metal salts and conjugational N-hetrocyclic sulfonate/ carboxylic acid under the presence of bipyridyl auxiliary ligands afforded a series of manganese, nickel, zinc, silver, cadmium coordination polymers bearing with phenyl pendant arm attached to quinoline skeletons, and they have been characterized by elements analysis, thermogravimetry, infrared spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studying. The series of polymers show interesting structural diversity in coordination environment, dimensions and topologies. They are all built from 2-D networks constructed from metal cluster through sulfonate or carboxylate groups, as the secondary building unit (SBU). The thermalgravimetric analyses show that they display framework stabilities in solid state. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies reveal the existence of antiferromagnetic interactions between adjacent Mn (II) ions in 1 , and ferromagnetic interactions between Ni(II) ions for 2 , respectively. Abstract: A new family of five lanthanide-organic coordination polymers incorporating multi-functional N-hetrocyclic dicarboxylate ligand, namely, [Ln 2(Hdpp)2(dpp)2] n Ln=Pr(1), Eu(2), Gd(3), Dy(4), Er(5) (H2dpp=1-(3, 4-dicarboxyphenyl) pyridin-4-ol) have been fabricated successfully through solvothermal reaction of 1-(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl)-4-hydroxypyridin-1-ium chloride with trivalent lanthanide salts, and have been characterized systematically. The complexes 1–5 are isomorphous and isostructural. They all feature three dimensional (3D) frameworks based on the interconnection of 1D double chains composed of the binuclear moiety [Ln 2(Hdpp)2]4+ basic carboxylate as secondary building unit (SBU). The results of magnetic analysis shows the same bridging fashion of carboxylic group in this case results in the different magnetic properties occurring within lanthanide polymers. One Zn(II) coordination polymer based on imidazole derivative, namely, [Zn(Hiba)2]n(1) (H2iba = 4-(1-H-imidazol-2-yl) benzoic acid) has been synthesized under hydrothermal condition and been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and single X-ray diffractions. Polymer 1 features 2D (4, 4) layers, which contain single left-handed and right-handed 1D chain. The partially deprotonated Hiba ligands further interlink these 1D chains to form an overall 2D framework. The title polymer exhibited exceptional high thermal stability. The enhanced luminescence of the title polymer is attributed to the coordination of the d10metal ion to amino-acid–like ligand, followed by formation of ligand to metal charge transfer. Seven new lanthanide–organic coordination polymers incorporating both nitrogen heterocyclic dicarboxylate and various auxiliary ligands, {[Ln3(Hpimda)4(μ2-HCOO)·5H2O]·H2O}n} Ln = Sm (1), Ln = Eu (2), Ln = Gd (3), Ln = Dy (4), Ln = Ho (5), {[Ce2(Hpimda)2(μ4-C2O4)·8H2O]·2H2O}n(6), {[Yb2(pyda)(μ4-C2O4)2·4H2O]·3H2O}n(7) (H3pimda = 1H-2-propyl-4,5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid, H2pyda = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) have been fabricated successfully and characterized systematically. Complexes 1–5are isomorphous and isostructural, and are built from two-dimensional (2-D) double-decker networks based on the tetranuclear basic carboxylate as a secondary building unit (SBU). Both polymers 6and 7feature a (3,4)-connected 3-D framework consisting of 2-D lanthanide–organic hexagonal grids, which are further interlinked viathe μ4-oxalate ligand. The results of magnetic determination show the same end-to-end bridging fashion of formate group results in different magnetic properties occurring between lanthanide centers. Modified 4-amino- N -(5-methyl-1, 2-sulfathiazole-3-yl) benzenesulfonamide acid has been synthesized, and then was employed to further construct series of new d10 metal complexes under the presence of N -containing auxiliary ligands. Namely, amsba–pyrimidine H 2 O (1), [Zn (amsba) (phen) 2 H 2 O] CIO 4 (2), [Zn (amsbp) 2 (4,4′-bipy) 2 ](3), [Cd 2 (amsba) (phen) 2 H 2 O] NO 3 (4) and [Cd 2 (amsba) 2 2,2′-bipy] (5), respectively (while, amsba ​= ​4-amino- N - (5-methyl-1, 2- sulfathiazole-3-yl) benzenesulfonamide, 4, 4′-bipy ​= ​4,4′-bipyridine, 2,2′-bipy ​= ​2,2′- bipyridine, phen ​= ​1,10- phenanthroline). They have been structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, Fourier transform IR spectroscopy and TG-DTA measurements. The complex incorporating phen moiety just displays a mononuclear structure, while the coordination polymers incorporating bipy segments exhibit one or two-dimensional arrangements. Self-assembly of cadmium(II) salt based on 2,3′,5,5′-biphenyl tetracarboxylate with or without various N-donor ligands affords a series of coordination polymers, namely {[Cd 1.5 (Hbptc)(H 2 O) 4.5 ]·2H 2 O} n ( 1 ), {[Cd 2 (bptc)(2,2′-bipy) 2 ]·2H 2 O} n ( 2 ), {[Cd 2 (bptc)(pyp) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]} n ( 3 ), [Cd(H 3 bptc) 2 (bip) 2 ] n ( 4 ), and {[Cd 2 (bptc)(bpt)(H 2 O)]·H 2 O} n ( 5 ), where H 4 bptc = 2,3′,5,5′-biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid, 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, pyp = 3-(pyrid-2-yl)pyrazole, bip = 3,5-bis(1-imidazol)pyridine, bpt = 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl. Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectra. Complex 1 shows a 2D helical layer, which is further extended to a 3D supermolecule network through inter-layer C–H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π⋯π stacking interactions. Complex 2 exhibits a (3,6)-connected (4 3 ) 2 (4 6 .6 6 .8 3 )- kgd topology. Complex 3 possesses a 2D (3,5)-connected (4.5.6)(4.5 3 .6 4 .7 2 ) net based on 1D tube-like chains. Two different 1D cobalt(II) complexes have cocrystallized. 1A is linear while 1B is a zigzag chain. The conformational flexibility of 3,5,6-tcpa could be responsible for cocrystallization. [Display omitted] A pair of cobalt(II) compounds with formulas of [Co(3,5,6-tcpa) 2 (4,4 ′ -bipy)(EtOH)] n (1A) and [Co(3,5,6-tcpa) 2 (4,4 ′ -bipy)(EtOH) 2 ] n (1B), have been cosynthesized through the solvothermal reaction of cobalt chloride hexahydrate with triclopyr (systematic name 2-((3,5,6-trichloropyridin-2-yl) oxy)acetic acid, abbreviation 3,5,6-Htcpa) and 4,4 ′ -bipyridine (4,4 ′ -bipy) coligands. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that complex 1 A has orthorhombic system, space group Aea 2 (no. 41), while 1B showed monoclinic system, space group I2/a (no. 15). Compound 1 A displays a 1D linear chain but 1B presents a zigzag chain, and 3,5,6-tcpa anion are both unidentate between them. The non-covalent interactions of C H···O/C H···Cl hydrogen bonds and Cl···O/ Cl···Cl halogen bonds undertake a significant role in their 3D molecule packing, which have been further verified by the careful Hirshfeld surface analyses. Based on the deeply structural comparisons, it was supposed that conformational flexibility of 3,5,6-tcpa might be responsible for the cocrystallization of 1A and 1B. Abstract Two nickel (II) complexes, [Ni(Hcdcp) (H 2 O) 3 ] (1) (H 3 cdcp = 3-(4-carboxylatephenyl)-2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) and [Ni 3 (Hdcdcp) 2 (H 2 O) 6 ] n (2) (H 4 dcdcp = 3-(2,4-dicarboxylatephenyl)-2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. For complex 1 , Ni(II) ion is coordinated by three water molecules and a deprotonated H 3 cdcp ligand in chelate mode to form a mononuclear complex; for complex 2 , three Ni(II) ions are connected into trinuclear clusters which are further linked into 2D layers by pentadentate Hdcdcp3− ligands in alternant bis-(bridging) and chelate coordination modes; the two complexes are both extend to 3D supramolecular polymers by hydrogen bonds. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) are also carried out to determine their thermal stability and phase purity. Magnetic measurement for complex 2 reveals that weak antiferromagnetic interactions occur between the bridging trinuclear Ni(II) ions. Through the hydrothermal reaction of cobalt(II) perchlorate hexahydrate with 5-bromo-6-methyl-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (5-Br-6-Me-Hpyc) and 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)benzene (1,4-bpb) coligands, a cobalt(II) complex [Co(5-Br-6-Me-pyc) 2 (H 2 O)]·2H 2 O (1) and an organic-inorganic adduct [H 2 (1,4-bpb)]·2ClO 4 (2) have been co-synthesized in the same medium. Structural analyses indicated that the cobalt(II) ion in 1 is penta-coordinated by one water and two bidentate chelate 5-Br-6-Me-pyc anionic ligands to obtain an asymmetric mononuclear species. While in 2 , the two pyridyl groups of 1,4-bpb acquire two protons forming a bivalent cation pyridinium, which combine two perchlorate anions via N–H⋯O hydrogen bonds to fabricate an interesting anion-cation supramolecular adduct 2. The magnetism for 1 , fluorescence for 2 as well as the hirshfeld surface structures for them have been carefully described and discussed. All the four compounds showed very obvious luminescence emission in the near infrared region and their lifetime are sizable.
