- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the application of national essential medicines in Ankang Municipal Central Hospital (hereinafter referred to as "our hospital"), promote rational drug use in clinic. METHODS: The data of drug use were collected from hospital information system (HIS) during 2014, and the use of national essential medicines were statistically analyzed by using EXCEL software. RESULTS: During 2014, the ratio of national essential medicines varieties in our hospital was 50. 96 % (265 /520). The ratio of western medicines varieties was86. 42 % (229 /265), and the ratio of Chinese patent medicines was 13. 58 % (36 /265). The ratio of consumption sum of national essential medicines versus the total consumption sum was 13. 24 % (3 596. 54 ten thousand yuan /27 154. 25 ten thousand yuan). Of the top 10 national essential medicines ranked by consumption sum, the western medicines were mainly anti-infective drugs and regulation of water electrolyte balance drugs, Chinese patent medicines were mainly promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and improving microcirculation drugs. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical application of national essential medicines in our hospital ought to be further improved. Meanwhile, the related system should be formulated to promote the preferential and rational use of national essential medicines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
