This article presents abstracts of papers presented at the seventh annual meeting of Society for Psychophysiological Research held at the Vacation Village Hotel in San Diego, California from October 19-22, 1967. One of the papers explored monocular visual evoked potentials as an index of maturity of human neonates. Another paper focused on habituation differences to tactile stimulation for waking and sleeping infants. In this paper the role of state in determining a psychological or physiological response is not disputed.

The Editors of the Journal "Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory" invited Professor Gary L. Holstrum and Professor Theodore J. Mock to submit this synopsis of the University of Southern California Audit Judgment Symposium in the belief that many audit researchers and professionals who were not able to attend the conference would benefit from the report. A significant area of audit judgment is the evaluation of audit evidence. This synopsis of audit judgment and evidence evaluation research is based upon papers and presentations made at the 1985. The evaluation of audit evidence may be based on one of several models of inference. Audit evidence could be evaluated according to a Bayesian inference model, a non-Bayesian statistical model, a hierarchical or cascaded inference model, a causal reasoning model, or some other form of inference model. Strengths and weaknesses of various inference models were discussed at the Symposium. The Symposium began with presentations of some current behavioral science research on inference models that are expected to be relevant to audit evidence evaluation.

The Symposium on Foundations in Software Engineering is an annual conference sponsored by Association for Computing Machinery, a computer portal and dedicated to the presentation of innovative research results contributing to an engineering discipline for software systems. This special section of the July 1998 issue of the journal IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering features three of the best papers from the fourth symposium, held in October 1996 in San Francisco, California. During its first half-decade, research results presented at this conference have covered engineering research topics. However, a number of distinguishing properties tend to characterize the best of the papers and have helped set the standards for high-quality software engineering research. The three papers in this special section illustrate these properties. One of the critical challenges for software engineering research is to find practical tools that help system builder restructure existing systems. Mark Moriconi was general chair for the symposium and deserves considerable credit for its success.

The article presents a report on the Eighth International Congress of the International Association for Analytical Psychology which took place in San Francisco, California. The themes of the congress were movements in social and cultural groups and changes in perception of the attitudes to personal relationships, to men and women in society and the relation of psyche and soul in analytical psychology. Over-valuing the positive aspects of the trickster may underestimate the destructive and ungrounded aspect of the negative role of the archetype.

The importance of creating healthier work environments by providing healthy foods and beverages in worksite cafeterias, in on-site vending machines, and at meetings and conferences is drawing increasing attention. Large employers, federal and state governments, and hospital systems are significant purchasers and providers of food and beverages. The American Heart Association, federal government, and other organizations have created procurement standards to guide healthy purchasing by these entities. There is a need to review how procurement standards are currently implemented, to identify important minimum criteria for evaluating health and purchasing outcomes, and to recognize significant barriers and challenges to implementation, along with success stories. The purpose of this policy paper is to describe the role of food-and-beverage environment and procurement policy standards in creating healthier worksite environments; to review recently created national model standards; to identify elements across the standards that are important to consider for incorporation into policies; and to delineate issues to address as standards are implemented across the country. This article focuses on the symposium "Existentialism: What It Means to Counseling," held as part of the American Personnel and Guidance Association Convention, in San Francisco, California, on March 25, 1964. The symposium discussed existentialism in counseling. The philosophy of existentialism argues the value inherent in the right and the obligation of choosing while living. Freedom with accountability results, in potential, from the developed art of choosing. A concept of such potential power deserves the careful scrutiny both of those who counsel and of those who deal with careers. The conception of this symposium is owed to Professor Dugald S. Arbuckle who for several years has advocated the value for counseling of existentialism. Furthermore, to Arbuckle is owed the suggestion that the symposium: focus on the meaning for counseling of existentialism, and simultaneously present the religious, humanist, and scientific views. The structure of the symposium places heavy responsibility on its participants. Each must in a short time simultaneously say enough about existentialism and counseling so that he may first consider the implications of existentialism for counseling and then deal with existentialism in counseling in relation to religion, humanism, or science.
