Central Michigan University has hosted 11 Off-Campus Library Services Conferences since 1982. This paper studies the proceedings of the 11 conferences to identify patterns of research. The authors were interested in determining how the field of distance learning library services has changed over that 22 year period as evidenced by the topics presented and the types of papers included in the proceedings. The authors analyzed the contributed papers and assigned those papers to specific subject tracks. The authors also considered the sources used by the presenters in order to identify works that may be considered seminal in this field. Distance learning librarianship is a field that has grown and matured, but there has been little research to date into the core literature of the field. Simple Summary: In this position paper, we aim to summarize state-of-the-art treatments for patients with leiomyosarcomas in order to identify knowledge gaps and current unmet needs, thereby guiding the community to design innovative clinical trials and basic research and close these research gaps. This white paper arose from a leiomyosarcoma research meeting in October 2020 hosted by the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation (NLMSF) and Sarcoma Patients EuroNet (SPAEN). As leiomyosarcoma patients are challenged by the development of metastatic disease, effective systemic therapies are the cornerstone of outcome. However, the overall activity of the currently available conventional systemic treatments and the prognosis of patients with advanced or metastatic disease are still poor, making the treatment of this patient group challenging. Therefore, in a joint effort together with patient networks and organizations, namely Sarcoma Patients EuroNet (SPAEN), the international network of sarcoma patients organizations, and the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation (NLMSF) in the United States, we aim to summarize state-of-the-art treatments for leiomyosarcoma patients in order to identify knowledge gaps and current unmet needs, thereby guiding the community to design innovative clinical trials and basic research and close these research gaps. This article focuses on all the papers submitted at the Third International Fructan Symposium held at the Utah State University Campus in Logan, USA, from July 21 to July 24, 1996. As for the previous symposium, all aspects of the physiology, biochemistry, chemistry and molecular biology of fructans in plants and micro-organisms were covered in a series of reviews and research presentations. On this occasion, however, only research papers were considered for publication by "The New Phytologist," resulting in a volume, which gives a comprehensive and detailed account of current research in this area.

Many health sciences librarians as well as other professionals attend conferences on a regular basis. This study sought to link an innovative peer review process of presented research papers to long-term conference outcomes in the peer-reviewed professional journal literature. An evidence-based conference included a proof-of-concept study to gauge the long-term outcomes from research papers presented during the program. Real-time peer review recommendations from the conference were linked to final versions of articles published in the peer-reviewed literature. The real-time peer review feedback served as the basis for further mentoring to guide prospective authors toward publishing their research results. These efforts resulted in the publication of two of the four research papers in the peer-viewed literature. A third presented paper appeared in a blog because the authors wanted to disseminate their findings more quickly than through the journal literature. The presenters of the fourth paper never published their study. Real-time peer review from this study can be adapted to other professional conferences that include presented research papers. The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) conducts analyses on a large variety of economic issues, publishes books, working papers, and two periodicals, sponsors conferences and holds workshops and seminars as part of an annual summer institute. Approximately 280 economists at universilies across the U..S. contribute to NBER's working paper series, and many other economists, here and abroad, attend conferences and the summer institute. This article presents information on American Personnel and Guidance Association's convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 1969 APGA Convention in Las Vegas will officially open Monday morning, March 31, 1969, and conclude on Thursday noon, April 3, 1969. All general sessions during the Convention will be morning sessions. Proposals should be sent directly to the appropriate Divisional Program. When programs cut across division lines, they may be submitted to the Program Chairman of one of the divisions involved or to the Program Coordinator for assignment to a Divisional Program Chairman. APGA members are invited to submit research papers for programs under the theme, "Research Papers." Papers will be invited to present their papers at these `Convention programs in order to communicate to the practitioner the latest discoveries relevant to the personnel and guidance field. Presenters will be asked to bring reproductions of their papers for pass-outs at the sessions. Individual presentations to the audience will be no longer than five minutes, during which the researcher will state his problem, succinctly describe design, state his hypothesis, present his findings and conclusions.

The papers appearing in this special issue of the "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering" periodical are based on papers that originally appeared in the proceedings of the First International Conference on Data Engineering which was held in Los Angeles, California, on April 25-27, 1984. The paper by Braegger, Dudler, Rebsamen and Zehnder was selected as the best paper at the conference by the awards committee, and concerns a database tool called Gambit. This design tool is based on an extended relational/entity relationship model and assists the designer with a wide variety of subtools. The paper by Farmer, King, and Myers is also about a design tool which is called the Semantic Database Constructor (Sedaco). It is based on a semantic data model which buffers the designer from most low level data structuring issues.

The article offers information on the American Educational Research Association 2007 Annual Convention Call for Proposals. The convention which will be held on April 9-13, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois will have "The World of Educational Quality" for its theme and will focus on the issues of attending to educational systems and education research outside the United States. The article announces the fifth annual meeting of the Society for Psychophysiological Research which will be held on October 15-17, 1965 at Shamrock Hilton Hotel in Houston, Texas. Delivering well-coordinated care is essential for optimizing clinical outcomes, enhancing patient care experiences, minimizing costs, and increasing provider satisfaction. The Veterans Health Administration (VA) has built a strong foundation for internally coordinating care. However, VA faces mounting internal care coordination challenges due to growth in the number of Veterans using VA care, high complexity in Veterans' care needs, the breadth and depth of VA services, and increasing use of virtual care. VA's Health Services Research and Development service with the Office of Research and Development held a conference assessing the state-of-the-art (SOTA) on care coordination. One workgroup within the SOTA focused on coordination between VA providers for high-need Veterans, including (1) Veterans with multiple chronic conditions; (2) Veterans with high-intensity, focused, specialty care needs; (3) Veterans experiencing care transitions; (4) Veterans with severe mental illness; (5) and Veterans with homelessness and/or substance use disorders. We report on this workgroup's recommendations for policy and organizational initiatives and identify questions for further research. Recommendations from a separate workgroup on coordinating VA and non-VA care are contained in a companion paper. Leaders from research, clinical services, and VA policy will need to partner closely as they develop, implement, assess, and spread effective practices if VA is to fully realize its potential for delivering highly coordinated care to every Veteran. This perspective paper seeks to lay out an efficient approach for health care providers, researchers, and other stakeholders involved in interventions aimed at improving care coordination to partner in locating and using applicable care coordination theory. The objective is to learn from relevant theory-based literature about fit between intervention options and coordination needs, thereby bringing insights from theory to enhance intervention design, implementation, and troubleshooting. To take this idea from an abstract notion to tangible application, our workgroup on models and measures from the Veterans Health Administration (VA) State of the Art (SOTA) conference on care coordination first summarizes our distillation of care coordination theoretical frameworks (models) into three common conceptual domains-context of an intervention, locus in which an intervention is applied, and specific design features of the intervention. Then we apply these three conceptual domains to four cases of care coordination interventions ("use cases") chosen to represent various scopes and stages of interventions to improve care coordination for veterans. Taken together, these examples make theory more accessible and practical by demonstrating how it can be applied to specific cases. This article presents information on the research papers presented at the annual meeting of National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) in New York City. Most of the research papers were published in the journal "Science Education." One of the research papers related to elementary science was published in the October 1949 issue of the journal. Another paper was pubished in the February 1950 issue of the journal. Next meeting of NARST will take place from February 26-28 in 1950.

SIG/USE celebrated members' work and achievements in research methods at the 2012 ASIS&T Annual Meeting through a keynote speech, brief talks and awards. In her opening talk, professor Lisa Given challenged attendees to expand research methods to engage participants more fully, include qualitative findings and explore information behavior in nontraditional media. The topics of two-minute lightning talks ranged from research techniques for exploring young people's information behavior to imaging brain activity related to relevance decisions. Others addressed incorporating mobile technologies in research, collaborative search, direct interaction with participants in contrast with background server log checks and working with data collections from social Q&A sites. Following the talks, small group discussions further explored topics such as cognitive approaches, content analysis and text analytics and usability. The symposium wound to a close with the 2011 Elfreda A. Chatman Research Award presentation on information strategies of the homeless and a preview of the 2012 proposed study on refugees' information seeking. Additional awards were presented for best paper and poster to support travel and further presentations. This paper examines the views of key decision-makers in the convention industry as part of a CRC for Sustainable Tourism re- search project. In particular, it examines the relationships between the main participants, the key factors for a successful convention and the emerging trends within the industry. In order to explore these influences, the research method used structured interviews with international convention associations, professional conference organizers (PCOs) and international delegates. In-depth telephone interviews were conducted with nine international associations from Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as eight PCOs, all of whom facilitate international conventions within Australia. Nineteen international delegates were also interviewed at two international conferences. The findings from these interviews suggest that the decision-making process for conventions is influenced by a complex set of relationships between the three sets of interviewees. The study revealed that the relationships between the convention bureaus and convention centers were very important. The interviews confirmed the findings of previous studies regarding the key success components for a convention, but also pointed to emerging trends in the convention sector that will impact upon success in the future. These trends included the increasing number of female conference delegates, the increased need for Internet facilities for conventions, and the high priority placed by convention participants on the safety of the convention destination. Background: Research in the form of poster and podium abstracts is disseminated at subspecialty society meetings. The quality of this research can be defined by exploring the ultimate publication rate of the presented abstracts. Purpose: To investigate (1) the manuscript publication rate of abstracts presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) annual meeting; (2) whether abstract format (poster vs podium) influences overall or 2-year publication rates and time to publication; (3) the abstract factors that are associated with increased publication rate; and (4) whether publication quality as measured by journal of publication, level of evidence (LOE), and number of citations differs between posters and podiums. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Poster and podium abstracts that were presented at the AOSSM annual meetings between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2019, were included. The PubMed and GoogleScholar databases were searched by abstract title and authors to determine whether the related manuscript had been published. For published manuscripts, the journal, journal impact factor (IF), time to publication, authors, and LOE were recorded. Results: The manuscripts of 664 abstracts (341 poster, 323 podium presentations) were published during the study period. The overall publication rate was 52.4%. Publication within 2 years of the meeting was found to be higher in podium abstracts (45.8%) compared with poster abstracts (37.8%) (P =.0366). Podium abstracts had a shorter time to publication (P <.001), higher LOE (P =.0166), more citations (P <.0001), and were published in higher IF journals (P =.0028). Poster presentations were more likely to undergo a change in first author between the time of the conference and future publication (P =.0300). The most common journal of publication was the American Journal of Sports Medicine (36.8%). Conclusion: Abstracts presented at the AOSSM annual meeting had a high rate of publication within 2 years. There was no difference in publication rates between podium and poster abstracts, but podium abstracts had a shorter time to publication and more future citations and were published in journals with higher IFs. Objective: To determine factors and barriers associated with scholarly activity among faculty members at urology residency programs in the United States.Methods: An online survey was sent to all 134 urology residency program directors. The survey assessed program characteristics including size, location and definition of scholarly activity. It assessed available support for and barriers to resident scholarly activity, faculty participation in scholarly activity and mentorship of residents. Linear regression analysis was used.Results: We had a 40% response rate (N = 40). Faculty attitudes toward conducting scholarly activity (P < .001) and lack of a research curriculum (P = .05) were barriers to the outcome 'participation in scholarly activity'. Faculty attitudes toward conducting scholarly activity was also a barrier to the outcomes 'mentorship of residents' (P = .004) and 'publication of at least 1 paper' (P = .004). Available statistician was positively associated with the outcomes 'publications' (P = .062) and 'presentations' (P = .032). A minimum requirement of a local presentation (P=0.04) and chairman support (P = .015) were positively associated with the outcome 'presentation at a conference.'Conclusion: Training residents in research matters for the resident, the institution and future generations of surgeon scientists. Higher levels of faculty scholarly activity were associated with a minimum requirement for residents to submit a manuscript for publication, strong chairman support for resident research, and the availability of a statistician. A common barrier to faculty scholarly activity, publications, and resident mentorship was faculty attitudes toward resident scholarly activity. The article discusses the paper from the Commission on Undergraduate Education in the Biological Sciences (CUEBS) Symposium held in the U.S. The paper focuses on the relationship between research participation and good teaching. The publication of CUEBS, "Biology for the Non-Major," has raised questions about the structure of a biology course intended for the nonmajor. It cites that the replies on the questions have been edited into a book to present several perceptions represented in the letters of respondents. The author also stresses that the same technique was applied to address the problem of the assumed relationship that exists between research participation and good teaching.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) impacts individuals and communities in numerous ways, including their faith. This study's aim was to learn from individuals who have an interest and/or expertise in spirituality and CSA about how various groups can support those impacted by CSA. The participants (n = 76) took part in a symposium focused on this topic and responded to an online survey with open-ended questions. Three themes emerged: negative impacts, direct response, and institutional changes. Using these responses, a model for Spiritually Informed Care is described, and implications for practice for those who work with those who have been impacted by CSA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article details the proceedings of the 55th Annual Conference of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) at the Doubletree Hotel Jantzen Beach, Portland, Oregon, from May 18-20, 2000. The conference had a record 68 sessions reviewing the impact and challenges of the e-revolution on research and society, methodological issues, questionnaire design, the 2000 Census, elections, global public opinion and other issues. Nine of the sessions were jointly sponsored by World APOR, with another nine jointly sponsored by the International Field Directors/Technologies Association. Over 650 people contributed to the 2000 AAPOR conference program, including invited speakers, presenters, coauthors, session chairs/moderators and discussants. The theme of the 2000 onference was Facing the Challenges of the New Millennium. These challenges include the impact of technology and the Internet on society, on politics and on survey research. The program featured eight panels devoted to technology issues, including The Impact of Internet Usage, Improving Internet Response Rates, Examination of Web TV for Internet Data Collection, The Internet's Impact on Society and Internet Survey Format and Design Issues. Representatives from virtually every major Internet research company participated in these sessions. Several panel discussants questioned if Internet penetration was sufficient at this point to conduct cross-section samples of the public.

This article presents abstracts of research papers submitted at the Society for Nutrition Education 37th Annual Conference entitled "Inviting Everyone to the Table" in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 17-21, 2004. "Promoting Health Eating and Physical Activity Behaviors Among Incoming College Freshmen," discusses diet and physical patterns. The paper "Folic Acid Now: Results of a Nine-Month Intervention to Increase Awareness and Knowledge of Folic Acid Among College-Age Women (Phase II)," discusses the ability of folic acid to prevent birth defects. The paper "Learning to Teach, Teaching to Learn," enhances didactic objectives in a nutrition curriculum while serving the community.

The article evaluates the collaborative planning process teachers used and examines the conceptual framework that was developed to guide the agenda building process in the U.S. The first major task of the Planning Committee was to establish a conceptual framework around which the conference could be built. This was necessary in view of the multiple dimensions of teacher education as well as the diversity of research areas that could be relevant. The framework not only would serve the conference well, but also would provide a useful and provocative structure within which research on teacher education could comfortably be housed.

This is the second of the graduate student papers presented at the Fort Myers convention of the Florida Communication Association to be published in the Association's Journal. The first appeared in the spring issue, William N. Ellwood's "Call for Philip Morris: Redeeming Smokers Through the Drama of Protest Rhetoric." An Association committee chaired by K. Philip Taylor of the University of Central Florida made the selection. A similar program at the Orlando convention in October, 1989, may also, the editor hopes, result in publishable papers. The article presents updates concerning the Operations Research Society of America as of 1960. The Eighteenth National Meeting of the society will take place in Detroit, Michigan from October 10 to 12. The council of the society took a number of actions about the operation of the society, including the authority given to the society's representative to the International Federation of Operations Research Societies. At the November 11, 1959 meeting of the council, 38 persons were elected members of the society.

The article reports that Sidney A. Fine of the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research is planning a three hour symposium of research in the Washington area for the 1969 APCA convention in Las Vegas, Nevada on the functional job analysis. Vendor keynote speaker Caitlin Trasande addressed the practical and applied implications of how government mandates and regulations drive innovations and research information management technologies, while tying in remarks made by Jane Marks, the publisher keynote speaker, and Scott Plutchak, the librarian keynote speaker. She is uniquely positioned to do this as she has been at Digital Science for 5 years, most recently as Head of Research Policy; holds a PhD in Neurobiology; and was very recently appointed Senior Strategy Editor at Nature. Trasande used products developed by Digital Science as examples to demonstrate how all sectors of the scholarly community are finding solutions to help enable compliance with mandates, such as those on data and Open Access. She also provided a futuristic look at how the UK government has begun to ask funded researchers to document the social impact of their research; how Digital Science worked with the UK government, and how likely this is to also happen in the United States. The article offers information on research support. Of the 238 ten-minute-papers which were presented at the American Physical Society congress in Washington, D. C. on April 26 to 28, 1951, 165 of them were supported in part or in full by various government agencies. It is noted that 111 were supported by the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). This move by different government agencies and the AEC is seen to forward the ongoing research on the use of nuclear energy and other developments related to this field.

The escalating demand for coaching worldwide has motivated practitioners, consumers and educators of coaching to advocate professionalisation of the industry to safeguard quality, effectiveness and ethical integrity. The potential benefit to coaching of professional status has led to an interest in consultative dialogue, such as the Global Convention on Coaching (GCC) and the International Coaching Research Forum (ICRF). The formal GCC began in July 2007 in New York, culminating in Dublin in 2008, with the presentation and discussion of white papers related to the advancement of the discipline. The Dublin Declaration on Coaching recommends establishment of a common understanding of the profession through shared codes of ethics, standards of practice and educational guidelines; acknowledgement of the multi-disciplinary roots and nature of coaching; and moving beyond self-interest to address core critical areas in on-going consultative dialogue. In September 2008, the ICRF, consisting of internationally recognised researchers, coaching professionals and other stakeholders met at Harvard to produce research proposal outlines to advance coaching as an evidence-based discipline. The GCC and ICRF have initiated a process that is seeking to clarify what coaching is, to measure and study its effectiveness, and to identify what role practitioners, academics and other stakeholders have to play. This article examines the achievements of the GCC in some detail, with an overview of the ICRF. However, coaching is a fair distance from becoming a profession, and there is a question mark as to whether it will become a full-blown profession. The challenge for stakeholders in the global coaching community is to let go of power, control and territoriality in order to collaborate and share their ideas, expertise and research to advance a more disciplined and rigorous field.
