By tuning superconductivity with an applied magnetic field, we use neutrons to compare the magnetic ordered phases in superconducting and normal states of CeCo$_{0.5}$Rh$_{0.5}$In$_{5}$. At zero field, CeCo$_{0.5}$Rh$_{0.5}$In$_{5}$ displays both superconductivity ($T_{c}$=1.3 K) and spatially long-ranged commensurate $\uparrow\downarrow\uparrow\downarrow$ antiferromagnetism ($T_{N}$=2.5 K, $\vec{Q}_{0}=({1\over 2}, {1\over 2}, {1\over 2})$). Neutron spectroscopy fails to measure propagating magnetic excitations with only temporally overdamped fluctuations observable. On applying a magnetic field we find anisotropic behavior in the static magnetism. When the field is along the crystallographic $c$-axis, no change in the static magnetic response is observable. However when the field is oriented within the $a-b$ plane, an increase in $T_{N}$ and change in the critical response are measured. At low temperatures in the superconducting phase, the elastic magnetic intensity increases linearly ($\propto |H|$) with small $a-b$ oriented fields. However, this trend is interrupted at intermediate fields where commensurate block $\uparrow\uparrow\downarrow\downarrow$ magnetism with propagation vector $\vec{Q}=({1\over 2}, {1\over 2}, {1\over 4})$ forms. For large applied fields in the [1 $\overline{1}$ 0] direction which completely suppresses superconductivity, weakly incommensurate magnetic order along $L$ is observed to replace the commensurate response present in the superconducting and vortex phases. We suggest field-induced incommensurate static magnetism, present in the normal state of superconducting and antiferromagnetic CeCo$_{0.5}$Rh$_{0.5}$In$_{5}$ for $a-b$ plane oriented magnetic fields. We speculate that these field dependent properties are tied to the field induced anisotropy associated with the local Ce$^{3+}$ crystal field environment of the tetragonal `115' structure., Comment: (13 pages, 7 figures, to be published in Phys. CeAlGe, a proposed type-II Weyl semimetal, orders antiferromagnetically below 5 K. At 2 K, spin-flop and a spin-flip transitions to less than 1 $\mu_B$/Ce are observed in the $M(H)$ data below 30 kOe, ($\bf{H}\|\bf{a}$ and $\bf{b}$, and 4.3 kOe, $\bf{H}\|\langle110\rangle$, respectively, indicating a four-fold symmetry of the $M(H)$ data along the principal directions in the tetragonal $\it{ab}$ plane with $\langle110\rangle$ set of easy directions. However, anomalously robust and complex twofold symmetry is observed in the angular dependence of resistivity and magnetic torque data in the magnetically ordered state once the field is swept in the $\it{ab}$ plane. This twofold symmetry is independent of temperature and field hystereses and suggests a magnetic phase transition that separates two different magnetic structures in the $\it{ab}$ plane. The boundary of this magnetic phase transition and possibly the type of low-field magnetic structure can be tuned by an Al deficiency.

Quantum-mechanical fluctuations between competing phases at $T=0$ induce exotic finite-temperature collective excitations that are not described by the standard Landau Fermi liquid framework. These excitations exhibit anomalous temperature dependences, or non-Fermi liquid behavior, in the transport and thermodynamic properties in the vicinity of a quantum critical point, and are often intimately linked to the appearance of unconventional Cooper pairing as observed in strongly correlated systems including the high-$T_c$ cuprate and iron pnictide superconductors. The presence of superconductivity, however, precludes direct access to the quantum critical point, and makes it difficult to assess the role of quantum-critical fluctuations in shaping anomalous finite-temperature physical properties. Here we report temperature-field scale invariance of non-Fermi liquid thermodynamic, transport, and Hall quantities in a non-superconducting iron-pnictide, Ba(Fe$_{1/3}$Co$_{1/3}$Ni$_{1/3}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$, indicative of quantum criticality at zero temperature and zero applied magnetic field. Beyond a linear in temperature resistivity, the hallmark signature of strong quasiparticle scattering, we find the scattering rate that obeys a universal scaling relation between temperature and applied magnetic fields down to the lowest energy scales. Together with the dominance of hole-like carriers close to the zero-temperature and zero-field limits, the scale invariance, isotropic field response, and lack of applied pressure sensitivity suggests a unique quantum critical system that does not drive a pairing instability., Comment: 37 pages, 15 figures

We present details of materials synthesis, crystal structure, and anisotropic magnetic properties of single crystals of CeAlGe, a proposed type-II Weyl semimetal. Single-crystal x-ray diffraction confirms that CeAlGe forms in noncentrosymmetric I4$_1$md space group, in line with predictions of non-trivial topology. Magnetization, specific heat and electrical transport measurements were used to confirm antiferromagnetic order below 5 K, with an estimated magnon excitation gap of $\Delta$ = 9.11 K from heat capacity and hole-like carrier density of 1.44 $\times$ 10$^{20}$ cm$^{-3}$ from Hall effect measurements. The easy magnetic axis is along the [100] crystallographic direction, indicating that the moment lies in the tetragonal $\it{ab}$-plane below 7 K. A spin-flop transition to less than 1 $\mu_B$/Ce is observed to occur below 30 kOe at 1.8 K in the $M(H)$ ($\bf{H}\|\bf{a}$) data. Small magnetic fields of 3 kOe and 30 kOe are sufficient to suppress magnetic order when applied along the $\it{a}$- and $\it{c}$-axes, respectively, resulting in a complex $\it{T-H}$ phase diagram for $\bf{H}\|\bf{a}$ and a simpler one for $\bf{H}\|\bf{c}$.

Single crystals of A2Cr3As3 (A = K, Rb) were successfully grown using a self-flux method and studied via structural, transport and thermodynamic measurement techniques. The superconducting state properties between the two species are similar, with critical temperatures of 6.1 K and 4.8 K in K2Cr3As3 and Rb2Cr3As3, respectively. However, the emergence of a strong normal state electronic anisotropy in Rb2Cr3As3 suggests a unique electronic tuning parameter is coupled to the inter-chain spacing in the A2Cr3As3 structure, which increases with alkali metal ionic size while the one-dimensional [(Cr3As3)^{2-}]_{\infty} chain structure itself remains essentially unchanged. Together with dramatic enhancements in both conductivity and magnetoresistance (MR), the appearance of a strong anisotropy in the MR of Rb2Cr3As3 is consistent with the proposed quasi-one-dimensional character of band structure and its evolution with alkali metal species in this new family of superconductors., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures; to appear in Phys.
