The paper describes a project for the understanding of Cultural Heritage, through experimental procedures that can provide scientifically measurable results. The project, called HeGo (HeritageGo), provides for the creation of a model of social and participatory interaction applied to surveys in archaeological, architectural and urban contexts. The procedure is structured principally around the voluntary participation of various “players/users” (tourists, students, ordinary citizens, cultural associations, etc.). The key elements of the project are a specially designed App and a “Totem/Target” to be strategically placed near the site to be studied. They will allow metrically reliable processing, exploiting the potential of Structure From Motion (SFM) procedures. The direct participation of the players in the acquisition process, through recourse to the logic of gamification, is an innovative and easy-to-use procedure, which can stimulate the knowledge and evaluation of the Cultural Heritage of our country. The final objective is the constitution of a scientifically validated Database, obtained through the contribution provided, in the context of a “social game”, by the participation of users who are not necessarily - technically or scientifically - experts, transforming them into an active part of the process. The system opens up new perspectives for the knowledge and assessment of the Cultural Heritage, both in terms of involvement of players/users and in terms of cost savings with respect to the standard survey methods. In particular, the procedure of the HeGo project was checked in a small historic centre, limiting the area of interest to several monuments.

In this digital era, one of the main challenge faced by cultural heritage is digitization. This challenge is particularly hard in countries like Italy, characterized by an extremely high number of Cultural goods. Data acquisition for many of these Cultural Heritage is extremely difficult, because of the complexity of surveys through traditional methodologies. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to the knowledge and data acquisition Cultural Heritage based on social media. The proposed approach, named "HeritageGo" (HeGo), transforms the user as an actor of the procedures for the acquisition of raw data. The paper also describes the first experiments focusing on the metric quality of the models obtained with SfM methodologies from raw data acquired by users.

In this paper, a service robot solution is presented for the\ud analysis, surveying and restoration of fresco paintings. The\ud proposed design approach integrates robot design and\ud restoration operation. It aims to merge them into a feasible\ud solution that can be both practical and feasible for restorers.\ud The simulation results are reported to show a successful\ud design solution, which has been conceived with the\ud constraints of a low-cost user-oriented design and the\ud consideration of cultural heritage.

In this paper, a historical evolution of graphical representation of gear designs is reported as a short survey by using significant drawings bath in the history of gear systems and design standards. A graphical representation of gear systems has evolved from a pictorial illustration towards a synthetic drawing of functionality and characteristics of gears that is today summarised in international standards. Those standards as from ISO and Italian UNI codes are still based on graphical schematic representation of gear characteristics with pictorial representation for an intuitive understanding of an intuitive understanding of main features of gear designs. A historical study is focused on the last century practical application of this gear representative.

The paper, aiming to retrieve the original meaning of Smart City, attempts to demonstrate its impact in the field of Cultural Heritage (CH). It presents a framework - applied in a project for a prototypical case study of ‘Widespread Built Heritage’ (WBH) - to create a Smart cultural city, transforming Cultural Items into Smart Cultural Objects (SCO), meant as sources and recipients of advanced information. The framework aims to provide an extensive and robust theoretical support to design and to manage the processes of Cultural Objects (CO) and Cultural bins, implementing a methodological system and an advanced environment based on Smart technologies.
