Cybercrime continues to cause increasing threat to business processes, eroding stakeholders’ trust in Internet technologies. In this article, we explore how six dominant algorithmic trust positions facilitate cognitive processing, which, in turn, can influence an organization's productivity and align its values and support structures for combating cybercrimes. This conceptual paper uses a cognitive perspective described as a throughput model. This modeling perspective captures several dominant algorithmic trust positions for organizations, providing a new, and powerful approach which seeks to enhance our understanding of the cognitive representation of decision-making processes. These trust positions are rational-based trust, rule-based trust, category-based trust, third-party based trust, role-based trust, and knowledge-based trust. Finally, we provide conclusion and implications for future research.

Process mining aims at discovering behavioral knowledge of business processes from their event logs, which has received an increasing attention in the era of cloud computing and big data. Surprisingly, to date, discovering structural errors (e.g., deadlocks and lack of synchronization) from event logs has not been considered in state-of-the-art process mining techniques. Moreover, existing process discovery approaches cannot be directly applied to event logs of processes with structural errors due to erroneous event occurrences caused by unsynchronized activities. To address this problem, we first preprocess the event log to obtain two separate event logs that are used to discover deadlocks and lack of synchronization, respectively. Erroneous event occurrences caused by unsynchronized activities are discarded in the two processed event logs, from which our error mining algorithms can discover all process fragments involving structural errors, without the need to obtain the overall process first. We implement our approach in a ProM plugin and evaluate it on event logs of real-life business processes, the results of which demonstrate that our approach can effectively and efficiently discover deadlocks and lack of synchronization if event logs contain sufficient event sequences.

Measuring business process similarity plays an important role in the analysis, management and optimization of business in big companies. In the early days, experts paid major attention to calculating business similarity according to corresponding process models. However, models only express ideal behavior of business processes without any undesired or unexpected business routines. In order to fully model business behavior, some researchers use system logs in similarity measuring. But previous system-logs-based similarity measurements have limitations on: (1) satisfaction of algorithm properties, (2) distribution of similarity values, and (3) complexity of algorithm. In this paper, we take the advantages of token logs in process behavioral similarity measuring. Firstly, the Token Log Profile, modeled with a relation matrix, is defined as an abstraction of the initial token logs. Then, similarity between business processes is calculated based on their Token Log Profiles according to the proposed algorithm. Besides, we extend the properties that similarity algorithms should satisfy for evaluating the proposed algorithm. The experimental and analytical results show that our algorithm achieves very promising accuracy and efficiency while satisfying all the proposed properties compared with state-of-the-art algorithms.

This article investigates the impacts of uncertainties in duration and resource availability and usage on project time and cost. This is done by modeling different scenarios as relevant resource-constrained project scheduling problems. The aim is to develop a scheduling risk assessment framework (SRAF) to model uncertainties in duration and resources and to observe their impact on project objectives (i.e., completion time and cost). This framework provides appropriate information for managers and decision makers and facilitates project planning (scheduling and budgeting) by incorporating uncertainties and risks. To visualize the risk, this article uses an extended version of the integrated definition standard as the example business process. To demonstrate the applicability of the proposed SRAF under varied dynamic conditions, we have considered and solved a practical case study using a self-developed heuristic approach, titled enhanced move-based local search heuristic. The computational results and useful insights open an avenue for future research in the field of project management, which will provide some important propositions or guidelines for project management practitioners.

During the last two decades, the decentralized execution of business processes has been one of the main research topics in Business Process Management. Several models (languages) for processes' specification in order to facilitate their distributed execution, have been proposed. LSAWfP is among the most recent in this area: it helps to specify administrative processes with grammatical models indicating, in addition to their fundamental elements, the permissions (reading, writing and execution) of each actor in relation to each of their tasks. In this paper, we present a model for a completely decentralized and artifact-centric execution of administrative processes specified using LSAWfP. The presented model puts particular emphasis on actors' views: it then allows the confidential execution of certain tasks by ensuring that, each actor potentially has only a partial perception of the processes' global execution states. The model thus solves a very important problem in business process execution, which is often sidelined in existing approaches. To accomplish this, the model rely on three projection algorithms allowing to partially replicate the processes' global execution states at a given moment, to consistently update the obtained partial states and to deduce new coherent global states. The proposal of these three algorithms, the proof of underlying mathematical tools' stability and a proposal of their implementation, are this paper's main contributions.

Flexibility and evolution have been a hot topic in the context of business process management. Business process drift detection is a family of methods to detect changes by analyzing the event log, but existing methods have some disadvantages in dealing with concept drifts. First, most of these methods detect changes depending on an exploration of a potentially large feature space and are time consuming. Second, with the size of lag period becoming small, the accuracies of some methods will drop rapidly. In this paper, we address these problems by proposing a novel drift detection technique called LCDD that significantly differs from existing methods. The core idea is to find out new features and disappeared features from traces after the log fragment meets local completeness. To begin with, we use the relations of direct succession as the lightweight feature, which are compared between complete window and detection window. Then, we find new direct successions and stable disappeared direct successions by just moving detection window. Finally, the forgetting mechanism is used to abandon some direct successions after finding a change point. An extensive empirical evaluation shows that LCDD is faster and more accurate.

Business process compliance ensures that the processes of an organisation are designed and executed according to the rules that govern it. We faced the challenge of building a compliance management system for a process-aware organisation and identified several needs that, despite having been identified in the literature, were only partially satisfied by existing approaches. The variability in the types of rules generally restricts the existing support for compliance checking to specific types of rules, a concrete phase of the business process management lifecycle, or certain information systems (ISs) for data retrieval. Motivated by this, we designed a conceptual framework for compliance checking that relies on the use of mashups for rule specification and checking, with the following advantages: (i) an open-ended set of rules can be specified by designing and connecting mashup components; (ii) (parts of) the definitions of the rules can be reused as needed; and (iii) the mashup-based compliance checking system can be integrated with ISs of the organisation, enabling the verification of actual facts on actions performed during the execution of a process (e.g., the existence of a document in a location). Design-time and run-time implementations of the framework were conducted and tested in a real setting.

Business process similarity measures are of vital importance for process repository management applications, such as process query, process recommendation, and process clustering. Most existing approaches measure process similarity by relying on control-flow structures only. This article investigates the role of data in process similarity measure. To incorporate data-flow information into business process control flow, it proposes a data-aware workflow net (DWF-net) by extending the classical workflow net with data reading and writing semantics. Then, we introduce three types of similarity measures, i.e., data item set-based similarity, data operation set-based similarity, and data-aware behavior-based similarity, to quantify the similarity of data-aware business processes from different perspectives. Next, a methodology is introduced to help process analysts apply these three measures in a systematical way. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed similarity measures by a group of comparative experiments.

Big Data is a rapidly evolving and maturing field which places significant data storage and processing power at our disposal. To take advantage of this power, we need to create new means of collecting and processing large volumes of data at high speed. Meanwhile, as companies and organizations, such as health services, realize the importance and value of "joined-up thinking" across supply chains and healthcare pathways, for example, this creates a demand for a new type of approach to Business Activity Monitoring and Management. This new approach requires Big Data solutions to cope with the volume and speed of transactions across global supply chains. In this paper we describe a methodology and framework to leverage Big Data and Analytics to deliver a Decision Support framework to support Business Process Improvement, using near real-time process analytics in a decision-support environment. The system supports the capture and analysis of hierarchical process data, allowing analysis to take place at different organizational and process levels. Individual business units can perform their own process monitoring. An event-correlation mechanism is built into the system, allowing the monitoring of individual process instances or paths.

International audience; With Cloud/Fog Computing being a paradigm combination of IoT context and Edge Computing extended with Cloud/Fog, business process in it involves dataflows among multilayers and multi-nodes, possibly provided by multi-organizations. Achieving end-to-end trustworthiness over the whole dataflow in such a Cloud/Fog Computing context is a challenging issue, nonetheless a necessary pre-condition for a successful business process on intra-/inter- organizational level. This paper investigates technical conundrums related to this target and proposes a policy-based approach for trustworthiness governance. An architectural layout is proposed with according modules, by carrying out two methodologies. One resides in tracing data derivation and maintaining security-level over the whole dataflow, handling data aggregation with several protocols. The other is to express data owner trustworthiness requirements with an enhanced attribute-based access control policy model and to evaluate data accessing nodes’ trustworthiness-related properties. Experiments show that processing time per attribute pair drops as the scales of policies increase, suggesting good scaling property of the system.

The technological intelligence tools that companies need to achieve sustainable development in today's digital age are extremely limited. To fill this gap in the literature, a novel technology intelligence tool is developed in this article. The developed technology intelligence tool uses patent analysis and utility mining. It is based on the HUP-growth mining algorithm, which is one of the utility mining algorithms, to find the relationships between technologies. The developed technology intelligence tool has three contributions to the literature. First, the importance level of the technologies and the repetitions of each technology in a patent have been taken into consideration. Second, the existing studies in the literature cannot use a technology intelligence tool to explore the relationships between technologies. Third, the developed technology intelligence tool is more successful in finding hidden patterns among patent documents. A real-life case study of business method patents about electronic shopping is conducted to show how the developed technology intelligence tool works in practice. The Apriori algorithm is also used to compare the results obtained from on the HUP-growth mining algorithm. The results of this study show that companies can quickly and effectively find association among technologies under concern using the developed technology intelligence tool.

The inclusion of security aspects in organizations is a crucial aspect to ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations. Business process models are a well-known mechanism to describe and automate the activities of the organizations, which should include security policies to ensure the correct performance of the daily activities. Frequently, these security policies involve complex data which cannot be represented using the standard Business Process Model Notation (BPMN). In this paper, we propose the enrichment of the BPMN with a UML class diagram to describe the data model, that is also combined with security policies defined using the UCONABC framework annotated within the business process model. The integration of the business process model, the data model, and the security policies provides a context where more complex reasoning can be applied about the satisfiability of the security policies in accordance with the business process and data models. To do so, wetransform the original models, including security policies, into the BAUML framework (an artifact-centric approach to business process modelling). Once this is done, it is possible to ensure that there are no inherent errors in the model (verification) and that it fulfils the business requirements (validation), thus ensuring that the business process and the security policies are compatible and that they are aligned with the business security requirements. Medical information is private, and medical data are valuable for medical research. Thus, medical information sharing is challenging because the data might be manipulated improperly and revealed during the operational process. The accuracy and integrity of medical information should be guaranteed throughout the sharing process. Medical institutions require shared information for scientific research and development; however, the issue of privacy inhibits the sharing process. In this article, we propose a new business process and a blockchain-based platform for medical information sharing. Our method exploits the advantages of blockchain in medical information recording and sharing. Information can be stored, shared, and credibly verified among parties in the distributed network. In addition, we propose a new consensus algorithm and a universal anonymous sharing model. These methods improve the efficiency and security of medical information sharing between users. In this way, both the information and the traces of the transaction can be stored in a distributed manner to prevent manipulation and fraud. Consequently, the value of medical information can be fully utilized.

Purpose: The IT Blueprint is used as a guideline in achieving organizational goals, such as the built and development of information technology (IT) infrastructure. STMIK Amik Riau is one of the universities vision to become an excellent university in Sumatra by 2030. To achieve this vision, it is necessary to develop various units, one of which is the built and development of IT in student services. To build IT for student services, an enterprise architecture is needed so that the development is more focused. Study design: In this study, TOGAF became the framework used to design, plan, implement, and manage the company's organizational architecture. TOGAF has 8 phases, but this research takes 6 phases: Architecture Vision, Business Architecture, Information System Architectures, Technology Architecture, Opportunities and Solutions, and Migration Planning. Result: The results obtained in this study are the creation of IT blueprints for student business processes. There are several updates in each process, especially in the information system architecture, then in business processes and technology. There are also updates that need to be done. This study also provides several reasons for updating the Opportunity and Solutions. Other than that, this research guides to apply the updates based on priorities that must be applied to migration planning. Novelty: In the information system architecture, 18 applications become service systems for students. After analyzing it into 31 applications, they will later be used to support good services for students.

To remain competitive, companies must face the changes occurring in their environment and adapt their business processes accordingly. Those processes are implemented in business process management systems (BPMS), which mostly support manual adaptations. That means that the process users have to detect what changes in the environment require process adaptation, and what adaptation operations have to be performed. Such manual adaptations of processes are costly, time-consuming and error prone tasks. For this reason, some contributions of the literature have tried to address the issue of self-adaptations of processes. But these contributions suffer from shortcomings: isolated use of adaptation techniques, non-coverage of the process dimensions and of the adaptation types, etc.; the adaptation issue remains partially addressed. Thus we recommend in this paper a hybrid approach to ensure autonomic adaptations of running processes. According to this approach, the Plan component tries to find an appropriate model version of the concerned process. Then, if such a version does not exist, it looks to reuse an adaptation case that was applied in the past under a similar situation (context). Finally, if necessary, it applies rules, as an artificial intelligence planning technique, to define an ad hoc adaptation. Moreover, the recommended approach takes advantage of the IBM MAPE-K (Monitor, Analyze, Plan, Execute—Knowledge) control loop from autonomic computing, recognized as a prominent solution for self-adaptation at run-time. More precisely the paper addresses the resolution of adaptation needs while covering three process dimensions and all adaptation types and ensuring the separation of concerns for better portability and wide usability through the BPMN standard. It presents both the required Knowledge and the Plan component of the control loop for this resolution. It also shows the effectiveness of the approach by illustrating self-adaptation of a process from the crisis domain, and demonstrates its feasibility by reporting about its implementation and qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

Introduction. This study aims to identify research data curation activities and business processes at PDDI LIPI Data Collection Methods. This research used a case study approach with interviews and observations of five informants from June to July 2021. Data Analysis Three stages of coding are used to sort, identify, and associate categories with existing theories. Presentation of data was conducted through the description of entities from business processes based on the business process model and notation (BPMN). Results and Discussion. Four main activities of the curation process were carried out. The data owners and curators become actors in the process, and between the two requires trust, communication, and collaboration in their implementation. In addition, validation of the business processes was conducted to show that the process has been running scientifically. Conclusion. The flow of knowledge in these activities is documented in a structured manner based on mapped business procedures and processes. It is necessary to conduct periodic reviews and analyzes of time and resources. Further research should focus on human resources, policy documents, and facilities related to research data curation activities.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to give an in-depth understanding of the nature of business processes (BPs) from the perspective of their dynamism and knowledge intensity that will allow for their correct classification and provide practical and useful implications for their more relevant and effective management. A simple and low labor-intensive BP nature assessment approach is proposed that will allow for objective assessment and internal benchmarking of all BPs in a specific context of execution based on their nature.Design/methodology/approachThe research is divided into two parts. The first comprises a systematic literature review (SLR) based on the resources of the ProQuest, Springer Nature and ScienceDirect full-text databases and the second includes illustrative case studies.FindingsBuilding on the SLR, the authors identified and reviewed 3,385 articles and defined a set of criteria by which the nature of BPs can be assessed. Further, the authors proposed a BP nature assessment matrix together with complementary questionnaires for the evaluation of process dynamism and knowledge intensity. To demonstrate the logic of this approach, two illustrative case studies were presented.Originality/valueThe article contributes to the theoretical reflection on the nature of BPs in the knowledge economy. From the practical point of view, a novel approach to the assessment of the nature of BPs is offered. The approach is open and as experience is accumulated it will develop according to the data and recommendations collected.

The objective of the work is to analyse the examples of optimisation of documentary support system regarding rail cargo transportation based on the transition to the electronic form of documents.The theoretical concept of modelling the business process of documentary support of cargo transportation is developed using the ARIS (Architecture of Integrated information Systems) software, which is used for development of an integrated process model of the activities of many manufacturing and transportation companies in Russia and in the world [1].The subject of the research is modelling of the document circulation system supporting cargo transportation to eliminate losses in a significant part of the processes of interaction with customers. The objective of business process modelling is to use all the advantages and functionality of case tools to eliminate duplication of actions and operations that do not add value to the customers of the transport company but reduce their loyalty to the products and services of railway transportation. The studied business processes ensure formation of an application for transportation and its transformation during the transportation process.The study reflects the results of modelling business processes for documentary support of transportation in digital form. A comparative analysis of these models is followed by description of the advantages of the electronic documents in comparison with their paper form considering a possibility of using a digital signature.

The paper deals with the value modelling of business processes using the REA ontology. This ontology, which has its roots in accounting systems, provides a comprehensive framework to business process modelling. The REA ontology is focused on modelling values of resources of business processes. A business process model, which uses this ontology, introduces two levels of abstraction - the operational level and the policy level. That fact allows a greater range of possibilities of usage compared to standard modelling methods. The paper describes the use of domain-specific modelling to create a modelling tool based on the REA ontology. This approach allows creating a tool that uses specific properties of the ontology to ensure validation of the model and automatic source code generation.

Process mining is a big data technology, which focuses on the discovery, monitoring, and improvement of business processes, based on real data from information systems. This teaching case describes the objectives of a German airline as it introduces process mining and discusses current and future value potentials of this technology. The case is particularly useful for executive MBA courses on Strategy (the value of IT investments) or master’s-level courses on Business Process Management. This case has three main learning objectives. First, students will evaluate the capabilities of different (technological) approaches to reaching the airline’s business goals and will make a justified decision on the feasibility of implementing process mining. Second, students will analyze the airline’s approach to implementing process mining and the challenges along the way. They will derive lessons learned and discuss approaches to solving challenges. Third, students will evaluate the value potentials of process mining. This will enable the students to make well-informed decisions on technology investments and to discover how these decisions can contribute to business goals. The case is designed to be taught in two formats. In a 90-min lecture, students need to prepare short assignments for classroom discussions. In a 180-min lecture, the assignments are included as group work during the lecture, but they require the students to read the case before class. Teaching Notes, including videos and additional study material to support group work, are available to eligible lecturers upon request.

With every business process and organization being more concerned about adopting the latest technology towards understanding the success rate and risk associated with the product/service launch, they need to understand the intention and review of their prospective customer. Sentiment Analysis is one such advanced technology to analyze and perceive the behavior of a consumer. However, many challenges hinder analyzing precise sense of sentiments and locating the appropriate sentiment divisions. There has been a significant amount of work being carried out in this direction since the last decade. Furthermore, with the evolution of big data technologies, new methodologies have been introduced to improve sentiment analysis with various evolving applications. This paper provides a comprehensive study on sentiment analysis to provide valuable insight into sentiment analysis approaches and related fields. The paper discusses various essential information associated with the dataset, a new arena of application and methodologies, upcoming research methods, study findings, and further contributing to the ultimate study and research gap.

Business Process Management (BPM) systems usually neglect the human and social aspects (or team effects) involved in business process execution. Our work fills a large gap in literature by addressing multi-level teams that arise in business processes where teams are formed at both the task and process levels. In this paper, we develop a methodology called BPMTeams based on social network analysis for building an execution model for a social BPM. This model is used to make resource assignments to form dynamic teams that perform various team-based activities in a process. We further develop various resource assignment strategies and evaluate them using parameters estimated from a real data set in the IT incident management domain to understand how team effects play out in social business processes. The overall team effect in a process is analyzed at two levels: as a task team effect where the synergistic role of a team in a specific task is realized; and a process team effect that arises from inter-team synergies across the individual task teams in a process. The results offer some balanced insights for the interplay of these effects by highlighting the benefits and disadvantages of teams selected by a purely data-driven approach.

The main purpose of the study is the formation the methodological approach to assessing the options for transforming of the main business process in the context of ensuring security. The study is based on the assessment results of several of leading engineering enterprises. The methodology of estimation of efficiency of carrying out transformation of the basic business processes of the enterprises, based on the theory of fuzzy sets, is a convenient means of carrying out multicriteria evaluation, comparative analysis from the point of view of integrated criterion and obtaining orderly priority of business processes on their efficiency. The study of the process of transformation of a business process for the production and sale of product enterprises was conducted and a methodology for assessing its effectiveness based on the use of the mathematical apparatus of the theory of fuzzy sets was formed and allows us to formalize and evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of each of the options for the business process. Methodology for assessing the effectiveness of the transformation of the main business processes at the enterprises can be used in enterprises of various profiles after the necessary analysis and optimization. The study conducted a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of the transformation of the main business processes at the enterprises using as example engineering enterprises in the context of ensuring security.

PurposeThe present research aims to identify the determinants for users' behavioral adoption of Blockchain, exploring the relationships among these variables and investigating whether the proposed model can provide a more comprehensive manner to understand the adoption of Blockchain technology.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach and extends it with external constructs: “reduced cost” and “efficiency and security”. This paper used a quantitative and exploratory approach through the collection and analysis of data from a total of 108 Italian innovative SME. We have used the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach using SmartPLS for model evaluation.FindingsThe results show that “efficiency and security” is an important driver of firms' decision-making process to adopt Blockchain. Moreover, the results show that perceived usefulness is a strong predictor of the intention to use Blockchain in business processes.Originality/valueThis research advances the literature on technology adoption in business processes, focusing on a particular technology: Blockchain. The field has been strengthened by investigating the determinants of technology adoption, adding new perspectives; both reduced cost and efficiency, and security.

For prospective students who will enroll in the school, it can make it easier for them to register online, the registration menu is still in the form of uploading files. One of the PHP frameworks often recommended by PHP programming forums is the Laravel framework. So that the process of developing the registration information system of Marsudirini Elementary School uses the Laravel Framework. Considering the development of the web-based programming world with the emergence of the PHP Framework, the system development method also adapts to the concept of the PHP Framework, where the basis of the PHP Framework is Object Oriented Programming (OOP) PHP. Then the application development for SD Marsudirini Gedangan Semarang school registration system uses the Scrum method. The need for a registration information system consists of 2 business processes, namely the registration process and the admission process for new students, where the entire process will be a reporting to stakeholders. With the use of the Laravel framework, there is an improvement in the process of registering and uploading files, as well as verifying files by the registration administration.

Purpose of the work: within the framework of the concept of corporate risk management Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to study the basic types of risks, assess their role in the modern economy, analyze external and internal operational risks and propose approaches to their quantitative assessment. As a research methodology, it is proposed to use the developed tools of mathematical and numerical modeling, which allows one to obtain, in the key of interest to the decision maker, qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the dynamics of business processes. The operational and economic risks (as very often occurring in the activities of subjects of economic relations) and directly affecting their economic and information security are considered in sufficient detail. It is noted that the risks associated with disruption of business continuity (which enterprises face in their activities) can be included in various classification systems of risks, grouped according to various criteria. The need to identify the mismatch between the design and actual metrics of the organizational structure (establishment of its structure and operating schemes based on the needs of the enterprise/organization) is indicated for solving the optimization problem.

Cloud computing allows enterprises to incorporate applications and computational resources as services, and thus, enterprises can concentrate on their business processes, without concerning the development, configuration and maintenance of these applications and resources. Integration platforms are one of these services that allow enterprises to integrate applications in order to reduce the maintenance costs and operations of the integration of on-premises platforms. However, high performance on resources offered by the cloud, demands improvement in task scheduling of integration platforms. Our literature review has identified a lack of studies in the field of enterprise application integration, focusing on specificities and vulnerabilities of the task scheduling of integration processes. This is a pioneer work regarding the characterisation of the scheduling of tasks of integration processes. We propose a ranking according to their conceptual models and apply this ranking to five integration processes. Then, we have statistically analysed the influence of each component of their conceptual models on the performance of the execution of these integration processes. We characterise the task scheduling of integration processes and presented a mathematical equation for the makespan as a function of the components of this characterisation. This study can guide software engineers in the optimal task scheduling for integration processes, which can improve the performance runtime systems regarding using the computational resources and result in minimisation of costs of companies. info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion

Aim. The presented study aims to examine the specific features as well as organizational and technical aspects of production logistics, taking into account its potential for using digital technologies.Tasks. The authors consider the essence, purpose, and goals of production logistics; analyze major logistics systems used in production logistics; assess the prospects for using digital technologies in this sphere.Methods. This study uses the methodology of strategic and logistics management, the systems approach, life cycle theory, general scientific methods of generalization, comparative, retrospective, and structural-functional analysis.Results. The production and logistics systems of a company are considered as equivalent elements in the context of managing material flows in internal and external supply chains and achieving the company’s operational and development goals. In this regard, production logistics is shown as part of both logistics and production, which affects its organization and architecture. Under modern conditions, an approach based on certain data is widely used in production logistics. It requires active introduction of digital technologies in production logistics, the purpose of which is not to achieve technical or organizational perfection of business processes, but to select technologies from the perspective of creating additional value.Conclusions. In the course of the study, three categories of activities associated with production logistics are identified. For each of these categories, the prospects and recommended classification of digital technologies are defined. Particular emphasis is placed on improving the quality and efficiency of data use. According to the authors, all information systems and digital technologies used in production logistics should be highly reliable. Thus, introduction of any new technologies in production logistics requires careful consideration. Regardless of the type of technology, a systems approach to the organization and development of production logistics is a prerequisite for the efficient operation of the company as a whole.

Android, Geographic Information Systems, RESTful, Web One of the mapping technologies widely used today is Geographic Information Systems. Geographic Information Systems (GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS) is a mapping technology in the form of computer-based information systems, designed to work using data that has spatial information or spatial reference. Mapping technology is widely used to facilitate human work. In this research, Geographic Information System technology was used to support one of the business processes at the Bandar Lampung City Tourism Office. This system was built to assist related agencies in recording tourist sites. The system consists of a web-based system and Android-based applications that are connected using RESTful Web Service. The system is implemented using the PHP programming language with the help of CodeIgniter for web-based systems, and the Java programming language for Android-based applications. The method of developing the system used is the waterfall model method according to Rossa U.S. and Saladin (2014). Application design is based on Unified Modeling Language (UML), flowchart diagrams, and interface design. While the application used in the creation of the Android base system is Android Studio. The testing method used is the system's functional Black-Box. The results of black-box testing data show that the system runs as it should, the system is easy to understand by users, and can meet the functional needs of the system needed by the Bandar Lampung City Tourism Office

Organization goals could be achieved by translating vision and mission into strategy. The strategy should be carefully formulated to direct the operation plans to work in harmony to achieve the goal. This research aims to show how the strategy is formulated based on the performance measurement result. The performance indicators are generated using the Balanced Scorecard approach with its four perspectives; financial, customer, internal business process, and learning and growth. Once these indicators and their benchmarks are defined, performance measurement is carried out. The performance measurement result is then input into a Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat (SWOT) matrix. This approach proved that it could help the company review its existing strategy achievements and competitive position. Furthermore, the SWOT analysis proposes some potential actions taken by the company, which fall on Offensive, Defensive, Adjust, and Survive strategies.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to demonstrate a cloud business intelligence model for industrial SMEs. An initial model was developed to accomplish this, followed by validation and finalization of the cloud business intelligence model. Additionally, this research employs a mixed-techniques approach, including both qualitative and quantitative methods. This paper aims to achieve the following objectives: (1) Recognize the Cloud business intelligence concepts. (2) Identify the role of cloud BI in SMEs. (3) Identify the factors that affect the design and presenting a Cloud business intelligence model based on critical factors affecting SMEs during pandemic COVID-19. (4) Discuss the importance of Cloud BI in pandemic COVID-19 for SMEs. (5) Provide managerial implications for using Cloud BI effectively in Iran’s SMEs.Design/methodology/approachIn the current study, an initial model was first proposed, and the cloud business intelligence model was then validated and finalized. Moreover, this study uses a mixed-methods design in which both qualitative and quantitative methods are used. The fuzzy Delphi Method has been applied for parameter validation purposes, and eventually, the Cloud business intelligence model has been presented through exploiting the interpretive structural modeling. The partial least squares method was also applied to validate the model. Data were also analyzed using the MAXQDA and Smart PLS software package.FindingsIn this research, from the elimination of synonym and frequently repeated factors and classification of final factors, six main factors, 24 subfactors and 24 identifiers were discovered from the texts of the relevant papers and interviews conducted with 19 experts in the area of BI and Cloud computing. The main factors of our research include drivers, enablers, competencies, critical success factors, SME characteristics and adoption. The subfactors of included competitors pressure, decision-making time, data access, data analysis and calculations, budget, clear view, clear missions, BI tools, data infrastructure, information merging, business key sector, data owner, business process, data resource, data quality, IT skill, organizational preparedness, innovation orientation, SME characteristics, SME activity, SME structure, BI maturity, standardization, agility, balances between BI systems and business strategies. Then, the quantitative part continued with the fuzzy Delphi technique in which two factors, decision-making time and agility, were deleted in the first round, and the second round was conducted for the rest of the factors. In that step, 24 factors were assessed based on the opinions of 19 experts. In the second round, none of the factors were removed, and thus the Delphi analysis was concluded. Next, data analysis was carried out by building the structural self-interaction matrix to present the model. According to the results, adoptability is a first-level or dependent variable. Regarding the results of interpretive structural modeling (ISM), the variable of critical success factors is a second-level variable. Enablers, competencies and SME characteristics are the third-level and most effective variables of the model. Accordingly, the initial model of Cloud BI for SMEs is presented as follows: The results of ISM revealed the impact of SME characteristics on BI critical success factors and adoptability. Since this category was not an underlying category of BI; thus, it played the role of a moderating variable for the impact of critical success factors on adoptability in the final model.Research limitations/implicationsSince this study is limited to about 100 SMEs in the north of Iran, results should be applied cautiously to SMEs in other countries. Generalizing the study's results to other industries and geographic regions should be done with care since management perceptions, and financial condition of a business vary significantly. Additionally, the topic of business intelligence in SMEs constrained the sample from the start since not all SMEs use business intelligence systems, and others are unaware of their advantages. BI tools enable the effective management of companies of all sizes by providing analytic data and critical performance indicators. In general, SMEs used fewer business intelligence technologies than big companies. According to studies, SMEs understand the value of simplifying their information resources to make critical business choices. Additionally, they are aware of the market's abundance of business intelligence products. However, many SMEs lack the technical knowledge necessary to choose the optimal tool combination. In light of the frequently significant investment required to implement BI approaches, a viable alternative for SMEs may be to adopt cloud computing solutions that enable organizations to strengthen their systems and information technologies on a pay-per-use basis while also providing access to cutting-edge BI technologies at a reasonable price.Practical implicationsBefore the implementation of Cloud BI in SMEs, condition of driver, competency and critical success factor of SMEs should also be considered. These will help to define the significant resources and skills that form the strategic edge and lead to the success of Cloud BI projects.Originality/valueMost of the previous studies have been focused on factors such as critical success factors in cloud business intelligence and cloud computing in small and medium-sized enterprises, cloud business intelligence adoption models, the services used in cloud business intelligence, the factors involved in acceptance of cloud business intelligence, the challenges and advantages of cloud business intelligence, and drivers and barriers to cloud business intelligence. None of the studied resources proposed any comprehensive model for designing and implementing cloud business intelligence in small and medium-sized enterprises; they only investigated some of the aspects of this issue.

The aim of this paper is to examine improvement strategy using 4 approaches categorized as “substitutes for strategy” in operations strategy and to propose a framework for future research. This paper used a descriptive approach to examine peer-reviewed articles that were selected for analysis purposes. The analysis revealed that the majority of previous studies always used the principle of continuous improvement in 3 operating concepts, namely TQM, Lean, and Six Sigma, and the use of the breakthrough improvement strategy in the concept of Business Process re-engineering. Therefore, this study proposes a future research framework that is related to operational management concepts but uses the opposite improvement strategy approach. This article provides a future research framework that can be used as a basis for other researchers in the future to examine TQM, Six Sigma, Lean, and BPR from different perspectives of the improvement strategy. Professionals who worked in the operations field can use the framework provided in this article to view the company's strategy from a different perspective to gain a competitive advantage for their organization. Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh Lembaga Permasyarakatan Kelas II A Banceuy Bandung yaitu permintaan barang yang dilaksanakan oleh staff masih dilakukan secara manual dan sering menimbulkan suatu masalah, permasalahannya adalah setiap staff dapat melakukan permintaan barang ke bagian sapras tanpa ada batasan, hal ini menyebabkan aktivitas permintaan barang tidak terpantau, dan menyebabkan stok barang yang ada di gudang habis. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan yaitu untuk memudahkan proses permintaan barang dan persedian barang Penjara Banceuy dengan membuat Sistem Informasi akuntansi Persediaan Barang Berbasis Web, dengan memakai metode penelitian waterfall. Untuk mendapatkan informasi dan data yang diperlukan digunakan wawancara sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Lalu merancang database dan UI, dan selanjutnya melakukan proses coding dengan dengan bahasa pemrograman PHP dan MySQL untuk membuat database. Sistem Informasi Akuntansi Persedian Barang yang diciptakan akan memiliki fitur untuk melihat data persediaan barang, peginputan barang masuk, penginputan barang keluar. Kebutuhan fungsional sistem ini telah teruji, dan proses-prosesnya sudah sesuai dengan proses bisnis yang ada di Lembaga Permasyarakatan Kelas II A Banceuy Bandung. Sistem tersebut membantu agar proses permintaan barang dapat dilakukan dengan mudah oleh staff penjara banceuy dan juga dapat melihat data persediaan barang., sehingga kinerja dan pelayanan yang dirasakan oleh staff menjadi maksimal.

Digital transformation involves utilizing information technologies and digital tools to restructure the business processes and increase their efficiency. During the COVID-19 lockdown, this topic becomes even more relevant. This paper covers the digitalization of such processes as preparing the master’s research work and presenting the results. We modeled a system for supporting decision-making when evaluating master's thesis based on the results of expert assessment and automated text verification for plagiarism following the regulatory documents of a higher education institution and general recommendations for observing academic integrity. This paper suggests system implementation via LMS Moodle, determines the resources for loading the master's thesis and accompanying documents, conducting peer review, organizing consulting undergraduates, and communication per the distribution of the roles. To verify texts for plagiarism, the Unicheck module can be integrated with LMS Moodle. The availability of an educational environment in the universities along with the creation of a single user base will allow for implementing the proposed information system with minimal costs.

The automatization and digitalization of business processes have led to an increase in the need for efficient information extraction from business documents. However, financial and legal documents are often not utilized effectively by text processing or machine learning systems, partly due to the presence of sensitive information in these documents, which restrict their usage beyond authorized parties and purposes. To overcome this limitation, we develop an anonymization method for German financial and legal documents using state-of-the-art natural language processing methods based on recurrent neural nets and transformer architectures. We present a web-based application to anonymize financial documents and a large-scale evaluation of different deep learning techniques.

Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) need to be able to take into account the fluctuating demand for computational resources during the execution of business process activities. Today, BPMS rely on the leasing and releasing of virtual machines (VMs) on cloud resources, which leads to a rather coarse-grained allocation of computational resources. This may result in an increase in the execution cost, flexibility restrictions, and a negative impact on the Quality of Service. In order to overcome these drawbacks, we introduce the Vienna Platform for Elastic Processes on Containers (ViePEP-C). ViePEP-C is an elastic BPMS that uses containers instead of VMs for the execution of business process activities on cloud resources, leading to a more fine-grained execution environment. To achieve this, ViePEP-C offers cloud controller, monitoring and business process execution functionalities and provides a platform for different resource and task scheduling algorithms. To evaluate the benefits of ViePEP-C, we further present a resource and task scheduling algorithm and show that, by using containers as execution environment, the execution cost can be decreased by over 20% (compared to a state-of-the-art VM-based scheduling algorithm) while considering a high service level.

The purpose of the study is to identify the essence of digitalization for business. The theoretical and methodological relevance of the article consists in the fact that the issue of publicity of digitalization processes for small and medium-sized businesses have not until now considered by economists. The lack of development of these issues predetermined the relevance and practical significance of the study. The scenario of digitalization implementation has been considered on the example of Perm, where digitalization is carried out in accordance with the approved “Concept of digital economy development in the Perm Region”. The task of determining the economic effect of business processes digitalization in the city economy was solved. The following methods were used in the study: methods of statistical information processing, the general scientific method of cognition of the problem, the method of system analysis, the theory of digitalization of systems, computational and experimental methods for modeling the digitalization of property, as well as methods based on the theory of functional specialization and the theory of restructuring. It has been concluded that the introduction of digital technologies into public life allows businesses to take part in this and develop themselves.

Digital transformation is the process of consuming digital technologies that drives business improvements and customer experience. Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in businesses' digital transformation agendas. Technologies and algorithms are an important perspective in the implementation of chatbots. AI chatbots use natural language processing technology and offer solutions for modernizing traditional business processes. The key advantage of the implementation of chatbots in different domains is the impact by improving customers' experience and reducing costs. Chatbots are pieces of software that simulate human conversation through voice commands and/or text chats, intending to offer companies an approach on how to use this software to revolutionize their businesses. The aim of this paper is the analysis of the evaluation criteria; the study of insights into how chatbots can be implemented in the domains of banking, e-commerce, tourism, and call centres; and the discussion of some benefits and challenges of chatbots in driving the digital transformation of businesses.

By methods of analysis and synthesis the article studies the problem of developing closed cycle economy in the field of hard communal waste treatment (HCW). Dynamics of waste making up was analyzed and its physical and mechanic properties and chemical composition were provided. The article gives economic tools, functions and classification of these tools that are necessary to organize the process approach to management. The authors put forward a promising scheme of treating HCW built on the basis of European experience and worked out the acute functional-structural scheme of the treatment system by the HCW complex, which demonstrates key business processes and tools of management. Such complex approach to describing the system of HCW treatment can simplify digital modeling of multi-variant business processes, such as burial of waste at waste-grounds, utilization at waste-burning plants, sorting and recycling at waste-recycling enterprises. Digital modeling with successful automated functional and cost analysis can give an opportunity to decrease uncertainty in the field of economic efficiency of managerial decision-making for rational HCW treatment and development of closed cycle economy in this sphere. A correct choice of approaches to the development of closed cycle economy in the field of HCW treatment can reduce the load on nature and support health of people.

PurposeThis research is designed to optimize the business process of a green tea dealer, who is a key supply chain partner of the Sri Lankan tea industry. The most appropriate trips for each vehicle in multiple trip routing systems are identified to minimize the total cost by considering the traveling distance.Design/methodology/approachThe study has followed the concepts in vehicle routing problems and mixed-integer programming mathematical techniques. The model was coded with the Python programming language and was solved with the CPLEX Optimization solver version 12.10. In total, 20 data instances were used from the subjected green tea dealer for the validation of the model.FindingsThe result of the numerical experiment showed the ability to access supply over the full capacity of the available fleet. The model achieved optimal traveling distance for all the instances, with the capability of saving 17% of daily transpiration cost as an average.Research limitations/implicationsThis study contributes to the three index mixed-integer programing model formulation through in-depth analysis and combination of several extensions of vehicle routing problem.Practical implicationsThis study contributes to the three index mixed-integer programming model formulation through in-depth analysis and combination of several extensions of the vehicle routing problem.Social implicationsThe proposed model provides a cost-effective optimal routing plan to the green tea dealer, which satisfies all the practical situations by following the multiple trip vehicle routing problems. Licensee green tea dealer is able to have an optimal fleet size, which is always less than the original fleet size. Elimination of a vehicle from the fleet has the capability of reducing the workforce. Hence, this provides managerial implication for the optimal fleet sizing and route designing.Originality/valueDeveloping an optimization model for a tea dealer in Sri Lankan context is important, as this a complex real world case which has a significant importance in export economy of the country and which has not been analyzed or optimized through any previous research effort.

Implementation of Enterprise Information System Registration and Registration of new Students is a business process in Vocational High School Education, the need for dynamic data collection is a problem that must be solved by unified modelling languange (UML) scheme, a system that can be flexible and responsive. Data integration needs are the ultimate goal of an information system to be able to process data, both for its own needs and to display information to the relevant part in terms of user and data needs for other information systems. In addition, the results of the admission selection of new students are more accurate and prospective students are accepted in accordance with the expected results.

PurposeThis study aims to draw the attention of business process management (BPM) research and practice to the textual data generated in the processes and the potential of meaningful insights extraction. The authors apply standard natural language processing (NLP) approaches to gain valuable knowledge in the form of business process (BP) complexity concept suggested in the study. It is built on the objective, subjective and meta-knowledge extracted from the BP textual data and encompassing semantics, syntax and stylistics. As a result, the authors aim to create awareness about cognitive, attention and reading efforts forming the textual data-based BP complexity. The concept serves as a basis for the development of various decision-support solutions for BP workers.Design/methodology/approachThe starting point is an investigation of the complexity concept in the BPM literature to develop an understanding of the related complexity research and to put the textual data-based BP complexity in its context. Afterward, utilizing the linguistic foundations and the theory of situation awareness (SA), the concept is empirically developed and evaluated in a real-world application case using qualitative interview-based and quantitative data-based methods.FindingsIn the practical, real-world application, the authors confirmed that BP textual data could be used to predict BP complexity from the semantic, syntactic and stylistic viewpoints. The authors were able to prove the value of this knowledge about the BP complexity formed based on the (1) professional contextual experience of the BP worker enriched by the awareness of cognitive efforts required for BP execution (objective knowledge), (2) business emotions enriched by attention efforts (subjective knowledge) and (3) quality of the text, i.e. professionalism, expertise and stress level of the text author, enriched by reading efforts (meta-knowledge). In particular, the BP complexity concept has been applied to an industrial example of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) change management (CHM) Information Technology (IT) ticket processing. The authors used IT ticket texts from two samples of 28,157 and 4,625 tickets as the basis for the analysis. The authors evaluated the concept with the help of manually labeled tickets and a rule-based approach using historical ticket execution data. Having a recommendation character, the results showed to be useful in creating awareness regarding cognitive, attention and reading efforts for ITIL CHM BP workers coordinating the IT ticket processing.Originality/valueWhile aiming to draw attention to those valuable insights inherent in BP textual data, the authors propose an unconventional approach to BP complexity definition through the lens of textual data. Hereby, the authors address the challenges specified by BPM researchers, i.e. focus on semantics in the development of vocabularies and organization- and sector-specific adaptation of standard NLP techniques.

A business process model may be used as both a communication artefact for gathering and sharing knowledge of a business practice among stakeholders and as a specification for the automation of the process by a Business Process Management System (BPMS). For each of these uses, it is desirable to have an ability to visualise the process model from a range of different perspectives and at various levels of granularity. Such views are a common feature of enterprise architecture frameworks, but process modelling and management systems and tools generally have a limited number of available views to offer. This paper presents a taxonomy of process views that are presented in the literature and then proposes the definition and use of a common process model ontology, from which an extensible range of process views may be derived. The approach is illustrated through the realisation of a plug-in component for the YAWL BPMS, although it is by no means limited to that environment. The component illustrates that the process views frequently mentioned in the literature as desirable can be effectively implemented and extended using an ontology-based approach. It is envisaged that the accessibility of a repertoire of views that support business process development will lead to greater efficiencies through more accurate process definitions and improved change management support.

Building information modeling (BIM) has been advocated as a potential solution to many challenges of asset management, such as missing data, incompatible software, and unclear business process. However, its current implementation in infrastructure projects has only accounted for technology application and digital information delivery without considering system compatibility or information need. More significantly, BIM implementation requires compatible development of various aspects of a business, a gap in which can lead to different implementation levels or even project failure. Limited research is available on the key factors and challenges of BIM implementation in infrastructure projects. Therefore, this study aims to present a case study with particular emphasis on interviews with key stakeholders to explore the main challenges and solutions of BIM implementation. It starts with the development of interview questionnaires based on literature review and feedback from a research team composed of key stakeholders. Interviews were conducted with 37 professionals from stakeholders of the owner, designers, contractors, and software vendors. Four main factors and challenges, along with potential solutions, were identified from content analysis of the interviews: (i) isolation of project phases (process factor), (ii) incompatibility of project technologies and interfaces (technology factor), (iii) unclear definition of requirements and responsibilities of project stakeholders (people factor), and (iv) imperfect information collection and sharing (information factor). The four factors dictate “when,”“how,” and “what” information should be collected and communicated by “whom,” which are mutually interdependent, and focusing on limited factors instead of all four can compromise the successful implementation of BIM.

Regional Library and Archives Office of Salatiga is one of the government offices which works actively in the use of information systems and information technology in implementing business processes to run efficiently. To keep business processes running efficiently, strategic planning of information systems is needed. This study uses a qualitative approach with the framework of Ward and Peppard (2002). These stages consist of data collection, analysis process, and the output. The data collection stage contains a description of the internal business environment condition, the condition of the external business environment, the condition of the organization's internal information system and the condition of the organization's external information system. Several analytical methods such as SWOT Analysis, CSF are used to analyze the internal and external business environment. The results of this research are IS/IT strategic plans and IS/IT blueprints which will be used as the references in developing IS/IT in Regional Libraries and Archives Office of Salatiga in the future.

Kantor layanan terpadu pada pemerintah daerah XYZ telah menggunakan website untuk membantu salah satu proses bisnisnya. Dengan begitu, diperlukan vulnerability assessment dan penetration testing untuk mengetahui celah keamanan pada wwebsite. Vulnerability Assessment adalah metode untuk mencari kerentanan keamanan yang ada pada sebuah website dan penetration testing adalah metode untuk menguji kerentanan keamanan pada sebuah website. Pada penelitian ini akan dilakukan vulnerability assessment dan penetration testing pada situs layanan terpadu pemerintahan daerah XYZ menggunakan standar PTES dengan beberapa tools yang digunakan yaitu OWASP ZAP, Acunetix, dan Paros pada Kali Linux. Hasil penilaian kerentanan yang diperoleh pada website layanan terpadu memiliki jenis kerentanan dan tingkat risiko yang berbeda-beda sesuai dengan tools yang digunakan. Pada pengujian yang dilakukan pada tool OWASP ZAP didapatkan kerentanan dengan tingkat risiko tinggi sebesar 10%. Tool Acunetix mendapat tingkat risiko tinggi 16.6%, dan tool Paros mendapat kerentanan dengan tingkat risiko tinggi 20%.
