Background: Surgical resection is usually recommended for the treatment of pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP). However, no comparative study has demonstrated that surgical resection leads to improved outcomes. We aimed to compare all-cause mortality between patients with PSP who underwent surgery or did not and those without PSP.Methods: Participants aged ≥18 years who had pathologically diagnosed PSP between 2001 to 2018, at 3 hospitals were included. Randomly selected (up to 1:5) age-, sex-, and smoking status-matched controls without PSP who were randomly selected from those who underwent health checkups including chest CT were included. Mortality was compared using Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox proportional hazards regression models. Literature review of studies reporting PSP was also conducted.Results: This study included 107 patients with PSP (surgery:non-surgery, 80:27) and 520 matched controls. There were no cases of lymph node or distant metastasis, recurrence, or mortality from PSP. No significant difference in all-cause mortality risk was observed between the PSP surgery, PSP non-surgery, and non-PSP groups (log rank test P = 0.78) (PSP surgery vs. non-PSP: adjusted hazards ratio [aHR], 1.80; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.22-14.6; PSP non-surgery vs. non-PSP: aHR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.15-3.86; PSP surgery vs. PSP non-surgery: aHR, 2.35; 95% CI, 0.20-28.2). In the literature review, we identified 3469 patients with PSP from 355 studies. Only 1.33% of these patients reported metastasis, recurrence, or death.Conclusions: All-cause mortality did not differ between patients with PSP and those without, irrespective of undergoing surgery. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the characteristics of idiopathic unilateral vocal fold paralysis (IUVFP) in elderly versus younger patients, including the diagnostic yield of computed tomography (CT) scans for identifying the structural causes of IUVFP. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed medical records of the patients initially diagnosed with IUVFP in a single referral tertiary hospital. We compared patients’ baseline characteristics, initial symptoms, laryngoscopic findings, and prevalence of structural causes on CT scans with respect to age (younger, <65 years vs older, ⩾65 years). Results: One hundred forty-two patients were enrolled (90 younger, 52 older). Evident structural causes were more frequently found on CT in older patients than younger patients (40.4% vs 22.2%, P = .034). Among truly idiopathic cases (70 younger, 31 older), recovered vocal fold mobility was identified in 48.6% younger and 41.9% older patients (P = .666). There was no statistically significant difference in the characteristics between unrecovered and recovered subjects of the older patients with true IUVFP (all P > .05). Conclusions: The CT scans provided significantly higher diagnostic yields in older patients than younger patients. Abstract: Objective: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of 18F‐FDG PET/CT and conventional contrast‐enhanced CT for the re‐staging of recurrent salivary gland carcinoma (SGC). Materials and Methods: This study included 58 consecutive patients who underwent recurrent SGCs after definitive treatment. The recurrences were evaluated by 18F‐FDG PET/CT and contrast‐enhanced CT of the neck and chest. McNemar's test was used to compare the diagnostic accuracy of 18F‐FDG PET/CT with standard neck and chest CT imaging, and a Cox proportional hazards model was used to assess the prognostic value of PET/CT. Results: Of 58 patients with recurrent SGCs, 17 (29%) had a local recurrence, 17 (29%) had a regional recurrence, and 38 (66%) had a distant metastasis, with these classifications showing overlap. The sensitivity and accuracy of 18F‐FDG PET/CT for the detection of distant metastases were significantly higher than those of CT (p < 0.05), whereas, for detection of loco‐regional recurrences, they did not differ (p > 0.1). The 18F‐FDG PET/CT‐positive findings at distant sites were predictors of poor progression‐free and overall survival outcome (all p < 0.05). Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity, might be related to decreased lung function. We aimed to investigate whether obesity indices are associated with forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) in asymptomatic non-smokers through a longitudinal cohort study. The clinical records of 1,145 subjects (428 males, mean age 52.3 years) who underwent a comprehensive health evaluation, including spirometry and abdominal fat computed tomography, at least twice between 2007 and 2014 were retrospectively reviewed and analysed. The mean follow-up period was 1,105 days (over 3.0 years). The baseline total adipose tissue (TAT) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) were inversely associated with both FEV1 and FVC (P < 0.05). The longitudinal study found that increasing TAT and VAT were significantly related to decreasing FEV1 and FVC, whereas decreasing TAT and VAT were related to increasing FEV1 and FVC in both males and females (P < 0.05). The strength and consistency of these associations were clearer in males than in females. However, no significant relationship was found between changes in subcutaneous adipose tissue and changes in lung function. In Korean non-smokers, longitudinal changes in abdominal visceral fat were found to be inversely related to changes in lung function over a mean period of three years. Objectives: Despite the excellent prognosis of early glottic cancer (T1-T2), the significance of preoperatively measured tumor thickness has not been elucidated. We evaluated the role of tumor thickness measured using computed tomography (CT) as a predictive factor for recurrence of early glottic cancer after transoral laser microsurgery (TLM). Methods: The medical records of 134 patients who were diagnosed with early glottic squamous cell carcinoma and underwent TLM were reviewed. Age, sex, clinical stage, preoperative biopsy, anterior commissure involvement, CT findings, recurrence, and overall survival were evaluated. Results: Seventy-three patients (54 T1a, 2 T1b, and 17 T2) were enrolled. Tumor thickness on pathology increased proportionally with increased tumor thickness on CT. The recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival rates were 82.2 and 91.2%, respectively. Upon univariate analysis, RFS was affected by the type of cordectomy, tumor differentiation, margin involvement, anterior commissure involvement, impaired vocal fold mobility, and tumor thickness (> 4 mm) on CT scan (all p < 0.01). Among the relevant covariates, an involved or close resection margin [hazard ratio (HR) 19.2; 95% confidence interval (CI) 3.5-105.6; p < 0.01], impaired vocal cord mobility (HR 8.5; 95% CI 1.45-49.2; p = 0.02), and pathological tumor thickness (> 4 mm) (HR 6.0; p = 0.02) were predictive of RFS. Conclusion: Tumor thickness may be another predictive factor for recurrence in early glottic cancer. Objective: We aimed to identify the clinical implications of nonspecific pulmonary nodules (NPNs) detected in the initial staging workup for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).Methods: Medical records of patients who had been diagnosed and treated in our hospital were retrospectively analysed. After definite treatment, changes of NPNs detected on initial evaluation were monitored via serial chest computed tomography. The associations between NPNs and the clinicopathological characteristics of primary HNSCC were evaluated. Survival analyses were performed according to the presence of NPNs.Results: The study consisted of 158 (49.4%) patients without NPNs and 162 (50.6%) patients with NPNs. The cumulative incidence of probabilities of pulmonary malignancy (PM) development at 2 years after treatment were 9.0% and 6.2% in NPN-negative and NPN-positive patients, respectively. Overall and PM-free survival rates were not significantly different according to NPN status. Cervical lymph node (LN) involvement and a platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) ≥126 increased the risk of PMs (both P <0.05).Conclusions: NPNs detected in the initial evaluation of patients with HNSCC did not predict the risk of pulmonary malignancies. Purpose: Standardized uptake value (SUV) and metabolic tumour volume (MTV) measured by F-FDG PET/CT are emerging prognostic biomarkers in human solid cancers. However, their prognostic significance in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) has been investigated in only a few studies and with small cohorts. In the present study we evaluated the ability of SUV, MTV, and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) measured on pretreatment F-FDG PET/CT to predict recurrence and survival outcomes in OPSCC. Methods: The study included 221 patients with OPSCC who underwent pretreatment F-FDG PET/CT imaging and received definitive treatment at our tertiary referral centre. The PET imaging parameters SUV, SUV, MTV and TLG were measured in primary tumours with focal F-FDG uptake. Clinical and imaging variables significantly associated with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were identified by univariate and multivariate analyses using the Cox proportional hazards model. Results: Overall 5-year OS and DFS rates were 72.0 % and 79.5 %, respectively, during a median follow-up of 61 months (range 18 - 122 months). The cut-off values of tumour SUV, SUV, MTV and TLG for prediction of DFS were 7.55, 6.80, 11.06 mL and 78.56 g, respectively. Univariate analyses showed that age >60 years, advanced tumour stage, and high tumour SUV, SUV, MTV and TLG were significantly associated with decreased OS and DFS ( P < 0.05 each). Age, tumour SUV and MTV remained independent variables for OS and DFS ( P < 0.05 each) in the multivariate analyses. Conclusion: SUV and MTV measured on pretreatment F-FDG PET/CT may be useful in predicting the clinical outcomes in OPSCC patients. Simple Summary: Facial nerve invasion in parotid cancer affects survival outcomes as well as functional outcomes after surgery-based treatment. Normal facial muscle function before surgery does not always exclude the possibility of involvement of the facial nerve by a tumor. Especially in patients without facial palsy, accurate evaluation of invasion before surgery is necessary to plan optimal facial nerve resection and reconstruction. Various findings are obtained from preoperative radiological findings, such as CT and MRI. We evaluated the role of these radiological findings in predicting nerve invasion. Large tumor, spiculated margin, and anterolateral location may suggest a high risk of nerve involvement even in patients with normal preoperative facial function. These findings may help surgeons to avoid unexpected facial nerve invasion and to make adequate surgical plans to get optimal oncological and functional outcomes. (1) Background: Facial nerve resection with reconstruction helps achieve optimal outcomes in the treatment of facial nerve invasion (FNI) of parotid cancer. Preoperative imaging is crucial to predict facial nerve reconstruction. The radiological findings of CT or MRI may predict FNI in the parotid cancer even without facial paralysis. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 151 patients without facial nerve paralysis before surgery who had undergone tumor resection. Previously untreated parotid cancers were included. (2) Results: The median follow-up duration was 62 months (range: 24–120 months). The FNI (+) group (n = 30) showed a significantly worse 5-year overall survival compared with the FNI (−) group (75.5 vs. 93.9%; hazard ratio = 4.19; 95% confidence interval: 1.74–10.08; p = 0.001). The tumor margin, tumor size, presence in the anterolateral parotid region (area 3), retromandibular vein involvement, distance from the stylomastoid foramen to the upper tumor margin, and a high tumor grade were significant factors related to FNI in the univariate analysis. A spiculated tumor margin, the tumor size (2.2 cm), and presence in area 3 were factors predicting FNI in the logistic regression model (p = 0.020, 0.005, and 0.050, respectively; odds ratio: 4.02, 6.40, and 8.16, respectively). (3) Conclusions: The tumor size (≥2.2 cm), spiculated margin, and presence in area 3 as presented in CT and MRI may help clinicians preoperatively predict FNI in patients with parotid cancer and establish an appropriate surgical plan. Background: Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) may present as an uncommon complication of extralaryngeal neoplasms, requiring diagnostic scrutiny to seek occult tumors or diseases. The aim of this study was to examine the utility of computed tomography (CT) in evaluating adult UVFP of unknown etiology. Methods: From January 2010 to December 2011, UVFP was diagnosed in 822 patients at our tertiary-care center. In 634 patients, a readily identifiable cause of the UVFP was evident and therefore there was no need for any imaging; in the remaining 188 patients, the etiology could not be determined. Among this latter group, 153 patients underwent chest radiography (CXR) and contrast-enhanced CT imaging from the skull base to the midchest. Results: In 36 of the 153 (23.5 %) patients, CT revealed the cause of the UVFP: lung cancer in 12 patients, thyroid carcinoma in 7 patients, skull-base tumor in 4 patients, aortic aneurysm in 4 patients, esophageal cancer in 3 patients, thymus tumor in 2 patients, pericardial effusion in 1 patient, and other neck lesions in 3 patients. CXR and neck ultrasonography also identified the etiology in 14 and 12 patients, respectively. During follow-up after the initial CT, none of the patients with idiopathic UVFP was determined to have an underlying disease that would have explained the paralysis. Conclusion: CT is a useful single-imaging method for evaluating the etiology of adult UVFP. Conclusions: Computed tomography (CT) imaging has clear limitations for the diagnosis of cartilage invasion or tumor spread in recurrent laryngeal cancer. Alternative methods of pretreatment assessment are needed for recurrent laryngeal cancer. Objectives: The diagnosis and staging of recurrent laryngeal cancer, previously treated by radiation therapy (RT), remains challenging. Practically, surgeons need to depend on imaging to predict which patients will have a chance for conservation salvage laryngectomy. The purpose of the present study was to determine the accuracy of preoperative CT performed for recurrent laryngeal carcinoma evaluation following RT. Methods: This retrospective review identified 32 patients who underwent salvage total laryngectomy after RT from 1998 to 2010. For our radiologic classification of the thyroid cartilage, we analyzed the conditions as normal, sclerosis, invasion, penetration, and extralaryngeal spread and categorized the state of the arytenoids and cricoid into three possible conditions: normal, sclerosis, and destruction. Radiographic findings were correlated with pathology findings. Results: Sensitivity and specificity for the detection of the thyroid cartilage infiltration were 57% and 94%, 50% and 89% for the cricoid cartilage, and 33% and 76% for arytenoid cartilage, respectively. Objectives: Diminished skeletal muscle mass (SMM) is a reliable marker of poor survival outcomes in patients with cancer. SMM or body composition is generally assessed at the third lumbar vertebra (L3) by abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans, not routinely evaluated in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Therefore, we evaluated the effectiveness of head and neck CT images to assess SMM in patients with HNSCC for predicting their overall survival.Materials and Methods: SMM was assessed in 305 consecutive patients with stage III-IV HNSCC by measuring the cross-sectional area (CSA) at the third lumbar and cervical (C3) vertebrae levels. A formula for predicting the L3 SMM was established using linear regression analysis obtained from C3 CSA and other clinical factors. The actual SMM CSAs measured at L3 level and those obtained from the prediction model were compared using correlation analysis. The predictive power of our formula for estimating overall survival was compared using C-index.Results: Median SMM CSAs at the L3 and C3 levels were 174.5 cm2 and 56.3 cm2, respectively, and were not strongly correlated (adjusted R2 = 0.421). Prediction model 2 included the strongest predictive factors including sex, age, weight, and C3 SMM CSA, and significantly increased the L3 SMM correlation power (adjusted R2 = 0.721). The C-index of the prediction model was 0.713 (95% confidence interval 0.692-0.747).Conclusions: Head and neck CT imaging might be useful to estimate L3 SMM and predict overall survival in HNSCC patients. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is commonly associated with a high risk of malnutrition and sarcopenia, related to adverse clinical outcomes. This study evaluated the prognostic values of body composition on recurrence and survival in patients with advanced-stage HNSCC. This study prospectively enrolled 258 consecutive patients with definitive treatments for advanced-stage HNSCC. For the determination of sarcopenia, the cross-sectional area of the skeletal muscles (SMs) was measured at the level of the third lumbar vertebra on the computed tomography images of whole-body 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography before and after treatments. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors of disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Pretreatment and post-treatment diminished SM masses (sarcopenia) were found in 17 (6.6%) and 32 (12.4%) of 258 included patients, respectively. All values of body composition, SM index, visceral fat area, lean body mass, fat mass and body mass index significantly decreased after treatment (all P < 0.05). Multivariable analyses showed that age, Charlson comorbidity index, pretreatment and post-treatment sarcopenia, pretreatment hypoalbuminaemia, p16 status and tumour site remained the independent variables predictive of DFS and OS outcomes (all P < 0.05). Patients with sarcopenia before or after treatment had about threefold increased risk of overall recurrence or death. Objectives: Current guidelines recommend chest computed tomography (CT) with locoregional CT/magnetic resonance imaging for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography (PET)/CT is suggested for stage III-IV patients. However, whole body screening with 18F-FDG PET/CT may provide better detection of distant metastases and synchronous cancer than conventional imaging. We evaluated the utility of 18F-FDG PET/CT in detecting distant metastasis and synchronous cancer.Methods: This prospective study enrolled 740 consecutive patients with previously untreated HNSCC diagnosed between September 2010 and December 2015. Synchronous cancer was histologically confirmed and distant metastases were confirmed by biopsy or serial imaging follow-ups. McNemar test was used to compare the true-positive detection rates of chest radiography (CXR) + head and neck CT (hnCT) (A) versus 18F-FDG PET/CT (C) and chest CT + hnCT (B) versus 18F-FDG PET/CT.Results: Distant metastases and synchronous cancer were found in 23 (3.1%) and 55 (7.4%) patients, respectively. A, B, and C detected distant metastases in 10 (1.3%), 19 (2.6%), and 21 (2.8%) patients, respectively. The absolute differences were 1.5% (A versus C, P = 0.003) and 0.3% (B versus C, P = 0.687). A, B, and C detected synchronous cancer in 15 (2.0%), 22 (2.9%), and 36 (4.9%) patients, respectively. The absolute differences were 2.8% (A versus C, P < 0.001) and 1.4% (B versus C, P = 0.013).Conclusions: 18F-FDG PET/CT detected more distant metastases and synchronous cancer than CXR + hnCT and more synchronous cancer than chest CT + hnCT. Objectives: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) in the salivary gland shows a high rate of distant metastasis, which is related to the resulting poor prognosis. We therefore examined the role of pretreatment 18F-FDG PET/CT for prediction of distant metastasis, recurrence/progression, and survival in AdCC.Methods: This study included 52 patients who underwent pretreatment 18F-FDG PET/CT scanning and subsequent treatments for AdCC. Maximum, mean, and peak standardized uptake value (SUVmax, SUVmean, and SUVpeak), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) were measured on 18F-FDG PET/CT. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to identify associations between the quantitative measurements of 18F-FDG PET, and progression-free survival (PFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and disease-specific survival (DSS).Results: Distant metastases were found in 20 (39%) patients: 6 (12%) at initial diagnosis and 14 (27%) during the median follow-up of 72 months after treatment. Univariate analyses showed that all the 18F-FDG PET parameters of SUVmax, SUVmean, SUVpeak, MTV, and TLG were significantly associated with overall PFS, DMFS, and OS (all P < .05). After controlling for clinicopathological variables, SUVmax remained an independent factor predictive of PFS (P = .001), while MTV and TLG were independent predictors of DMFS (P = .009) and DSS (P = .017). Patients with MTV > 14.8 mL showed a 5.9-fold higher risk of distant metastasis and a 4.2-fold higher risk of disease-specific death than those with a lower MTV.Conclusions: Quantitative measurements using 18F-FDG PET/CT are useful for predicting tumor progression, distant metastasis, and survival in patients with AdCC. Background Posttreatment detection of recurrence may lead to salvage treatment and prognostic prediction in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). We evaluated the diagnostic and prognostic values of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) after definitive treatment of HNSCC. Methods This prospective study included 278 consecutive patients who underwent curative surgery ( n = 143, 51.4%) or definitive radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy ( n = 135, 48.6%) for previously untreated HNSCC. The patients were regularly followed up and evaluated by 18 F-FDG PET/CT, head and neck CT/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and chest CT at regular intervals after treatment. The imaging interpretations were compared with the histological results for recurrence. Receiver operating characteristics curves analysis, McNemar's test and logistic regression using generalised estimating equations were used to compare the diagnostic accuracy of 18 F-FDG PET/CT and standard imaging of CT/MRI or chest CT, and a Cox proportional hazards model was used to assess the prognostic value of PET/CT. Results During a median follow-up of 44 months (range, 24–62 months), 73 patients (26.3%) had recurrence or persistent diseases. The area under curves for 18 F-FDG PET/CT and CT/MRI were 0.975 (0.964–0.992) and 0.789 (0.713–0.874), respectively ( P < 0.001). 18 F-FDG PET/CT detected 65 of 66 recurrences (98.5%) not suggested by physical examination and endoscopy. Positive findings on 18 F-FDG PET/CT scans were independent predictors of poorer cancer-specific and overall survival outcomes ( P < 0.01). Summary: 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) has been reported to identify primary tumors in patients with cervical metastases from cancer of unknown primary (CUP). However, few reports have assessed the use of combined FDG-PET/computed tomography (CT) in this setting. We therefore examined the utility of combined FDG-PET/CT in the detection of primary tumors and unrecognized metastases in these patients. Patients with previously untreated CUPs underwent head and neck CT and whole-body FDG-PET/CT before panendoscopy and guided biopsy. The diagnostic accuracy of CT and FDG-PET/CT in detecting primary tumors and cervical metastases was compared with that of histopathology. The ability of FDG-PET/CT to detect distant metastases was also tested. Of the 44 eligible patients, 16 had occult primary tumors in the head and neck. FDG-PET/CT was significantly more sensitive than CT for detecting primary tumors (87.5% vs. 43.7%, P =.016), but their specificity did not differ (82.1% vs. 89.3%, P =.500). Thirty-four of 44 patients underwent neck dissection; 67 of 182 dissected cervical levels had metastatic nodal diseases. On a level-by-level basis, FDG-PET/CT was significantly more sensitive than CT (94.0% vs. 71.6%, P <.001), but the two methods were equally specific (94.8% vs. 96.5%). FDG-PET/CT correctly detected distant metastases in 6 of 6 patients. Combined FDG-PET/CT is a useful screening method for primary tumor detection, accurate nodal staging, and distant metastases in patients with CUPs. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Summary: The combination of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) has been reported to be more accurate than CT or PET alone in a preoperative setting. We compared the diagnostic utility of preoperative PET/CT, PET and CT/MRI in 167 patients with newly diagnosed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), of whom 104 underwent FDG PET and 63 underwent combined PET/CT with all receiving CT/MRI. These preoperative PET, PET/CT, and CT/MRI results were reviewed and their accuracies were compared in patients in whom diagnosis was confirmed histopathologically. Age, sex, primary sites and stage, and nodal involvement were comparable between two groups. The accuracy of PET and PET/CT for detecting primary tumors and cervical metastases was comparable, but significantly higher than that of CT/MRI (98%–97% vs. 86–88% for primary; 92%–93% vs. 85%–86% for neck on a level-by-level basis; P <.05). PET and PET/CT gave false negative results: in 2 (2%) and 2 (3%) patients for primary tumors; in 6 (6%) and 3 (5%) patients for neck metastases, respectively. PET and PET/CT also gave false-positive results for cervical metastases in 5 (5%) and 4 (6%) patients, respectively. Compared with PET alone, preoperative FDG PET/CT may not yield significantly improved diagnostic accuracy in patients with HNSCC. Moreover, despite their high accuracy, PET and PET/CT may not abrogate the need for conventional imaging and pathologic staging based on primary resection and neck dissection. Purpose: Tumors originating in the parapharyngeal space (PPS) are rare and comprise of 0.5% of all head and neck tumors. Malignant PPS tumor is associated with unfavorable clinical outcomes but is not reliably detected by preoperative imaging tools. Therefore, we investigate the malignancy rate and the diagnostic values of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and imaging tools such as computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting malignant tumors in PPS tumors. Material and methods: The 35 consecutive patients with surgically treated PPS tumors were retrospectively reviewed at our institution from 1996 to 2010. All study patients were assessed by CT/MRI before surgery. Of them, 24 patients were performed FNAB before surgery. Histopathologic diagnosis was used as the gold standard in assessing preoperative diagnostic modalities. The malignancy rate and their diagnostic value of CT/MRI and FNAB were assessed and compared with those with final diagnosis. Results: The malignancy rate of the PPS tumors was 29%. With histologic correlation, both FNAB and CT/MRI for detection of malignant tumor showed low sensitivity (50% and 25%, respectively). The specificity of FNAB and CT/MRI for detection of malignant tumor was 94% and 94%, respectively. There were four false-negative cases that they diagnosed as benign tumors in preoperative fine needle aspiration biopsy. One of them was considered as malignant lesion in CT/MR imagings. There were six false-negative cases that they diagnosed as benign tumors in preoperative imaging. Three of them were considered as malignant lesion in FNAB. Conclusions: Diagnostic value for CT/MRI and imaging were relatively low despite not uncommon incidence of malignant PPS tumors. Therefore, even though preoperative diagnosis was benign lesion, malignant possibility should be considered for proper preoperative treatment planning. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
