A multiprocessor system should be able to identify and eliminate faults in time to avoid the paralysis of a whole system. This paper proposes an improved binary bat algorithm to identify faulty processors in a multiprocessor system. Compared with most existing works based on metaheuristic algorithms, the proposed algorithm employs a random initial population and does not require transfer functions. The exclusive-OR operation in the velocity equation is used to measure the distance between two individuals in binary space. To improve population diversity and avoid local optima, the mutation operator is integrated into the position update equation. A new local search strategy is proposed to strengthen the ability of local search in binary space. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm based on the Malek model can maintain approximately 100 % diagnostic accuracy in a small random initial population with fewer iterations and less CPU running time. An important educational goal for the next generation is the ability to think computationally. Cultivating K‐12 students' computational thinking (CT) requires the capacity building of teachers through teacher development programs. However, if students' learning outcomes were not assessed, it is not known whether the enhancement of teacher capacity could impact on students' learning. This study aimed to examine how a teacher development program changed teachers' content knowledge and collaborative engagement, which in turn influenced their students' learning achievement. The participants were 81 teachers and 3226 students from primary schools. We employed multi‐level modelling to study the relationships between teacher‐level variables and student achievement assessed by a CT concepts test. The teachers' content knowledge and collaborative engagement were significantly enhanced through the program, which in turn had a significant impact on student achievement. Teachers' years of teaching experience, but not their gender or whether they had majored in computer science, could also affect student achievement. The results indicate that a teacher development program can play a significant role in enhancing the teachers' CT content knowledge and collaborative engagement, which can then have a positive effect on student learning. Computation intelligence techniques are important for making decisions in an agile-based offshore software development paradigm. Offshore development faces additional challenges, such as trust, communication and coordination, and socio-cultural and knowledge transfer. There is a need to determine the rankings of challenges considering their criticality concerning practitioners working in agile-based offshore software development. This paper aims to identify and rank agile challenges in offshore software development by applying computational intelligence techniques. From the systematic literature review, we identified 30 communication and coordination challenges. The distributed agile pattern catalog consists of 15 patterns, from which eight were used to solve communication and collaboration challenges. Many researchers have used fuzzy logic to quantify their results. We further applied the fuzzy analytical technique to determine the priority order concerning the criticality of the identified agile pattern catalog. The results showed that Central Code Repository Pattern ranked the most significant for solving communication and coordination challenges. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a long-term disease that mainly influences the central nervous system and thus affects movement, such as inability to move rigidity, and tremors. So, analysis of patients' movements under control, especially handwriting, is a helpful way to diagnose Parkinson's disease. Diagnosis, as the first step in medical practice, is critical to clinical decision-making. This paper uses multiple computational intelligence classification techniques such as Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest to investigate the existence of the PD. Also, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and the Best First (BF) strategy are used as feature extractors. These techniques are applied over both Meander and Spiral data and some selected traits derived from the patient's handwriting during the handwritten exam. The available HandPD dataset has been used with both its images and selected attributes. The CNN is used for the feature extraction process across the images of the used dataset. Whereas, the BF search strategy is used to extract features based on the changes between the handwritten trace and the exam template features combined with instances resampling. The largest disruptive component of traffic management system is road transport. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) necessitate exact traffic forecast. However, transport departments continue to struggle to choose an ITS prediction method. A user must be able to appropriately utilize estimation model information. This paper covers contemporary estimation approaches, explains their fundamental concepts and evaluates different traffic estimation approaches for the benefit of decision makers. Each method is classified as Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning (DL) or hybrid algorithms. Many surveys are model or datadriven. This study is the first to examine traffic prediction using a variety of algorithmic and methodological approaches to key traffic parameters. Predictive evaluation of dependent variables is done and each algorithm's traffic characteristics are examined in chronological order. The application and effectiveness of each strategy are summarized, and the issues found by analysis are addressed by the review. Hybrid Computational Intelligence (CI)-ML and DL traffic prediction systems are found to be better than previous approaches. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a devastating neurological disease that cannot be identified with traditional plasma experiments, necessitating the development of a faster, less expensive diagnostic instrument. Due to the difficulty of quantifying PD in the past, doctors have tended to focus on some signs while ignoring others, primarily relying on an intuitive assessment scale because of the disease's characteristics, which include loss of motor control and speech that can be utilized to detect and diagnose this disease. It is an illness that impacts both motion and non-motion functions. It takes years to develop and has a wide range of clinical symptoms and prognoses. Parkinson's patients commonly display non-motor symptoms such as sleep problems, neurocognitive ailments, and cognitive impairment long before the diagnosis, even though scientists have been working to develop designs for diagnosing and categorizing the disease, only noticeable defects such as movement patterns, speech, or writing skills are offered in this paper. This article provides a thorough analysis of several AI-based ML and DL techniques used to diagnose PD and their influence on developing additional research directions. Effective operation of a microgrid depends critically on accurate forecasting of its components. Recently, internet forecasting competitions have been used to determine the best methods for energy forecasting, with some competitions having a special focus on microgrids and COVID-19 energy-use forecasting. This paper describes forecasting for the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society 3rd Technical Challenge, which required predicting solar and building loads of a microgrid system at Monash University for the month of November 2020. The forecast achieved the lowest error rate in the competition. We review the literature on recent energy forecasting competitions and metrics and explain how the solution drew from top-ranked solutions in previous energy forecasting competitions such as the Global Energy Forecasting Competition series. The techniques can be reapplied in other forecasting endeavours, while approaches to some of the time-series forecasting are more ad hoc and specific to the competition. Novel thresholding approaches were used to improve the quality of the input data. As the training and evaluation phase of the challenge occurred during COVID-19 lockdown and reopening, the building demand was subject to pandemic-related effects. Finally, we assess other data sources which would have improved the model forecast skill such as data from different numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, solar observations, and high-resolution price and demand data in the vicinity of the campus. Choosing a suitable location for solar photovoltaic (PV) plants depends on several conflicted selection criteria such as technical, economical, and social restrictions. For handling such a problem, this paper proposes two Computational Intelligence (CI) based frameworks called Genetic Algorithm with Repairing operator (GAR) and Map-Reduce-based Genetic Algorithm with a Repair operator (MRGAR). The governorate of the Red Sea in Egypt is selected as a case study which is a privileged area for harvesting solar energy. Firstly, all gathered maps and geographic information resources are manipulated. Secondly, the regarded problem is formulated as a binary-constrained multiobjective optimization problem. Finally, this problem is solved with two proposed frameworks and the results are simulated. The experimental results conclude that both frameworks are efficient for solving the regarded site selection problem. However, GAR and MRGAR have diversified performances. In particular, the percentage of gathered solar energy of GAR is better than MRGAR whereas MRGAR is significantly faster than GAR. Therefore, MRGAR is recommended to deal with large-scale problems. Drug-target interactions prediction (DTIP) remains an important requirement in the field of drug discovery and human medicine. The identification of interaction among the drug compound and target protein plays an essential process in the drug discovery process. It is a lengthier and complex process for predicting the drug target interaction (DTI) utilizing experimental approaches. To resolve these issues, computational intelligence based DTIP techniques were developed to offer an efficient predictive model with low cost. The recently developed deep learning (DL) models can be employed for the design of effective predictive approaches for DTIP. With this motivation, this paper presents a new drug target interaction prediction using optimal recurrent neural network (DTIPORNN) technique. The goal of the DTIP-ORNN technique is to predict the DTIs in a semi-supervised way, i.e., inclusion of both labelled and unlabelled instances. Initially, the DTIP-ORNN technique performs data preparation process and also includes class labelling process, where the target interactions from the database are used to determine the final label of the unlabelled instances. Besides, drugto- drug (D-D) and target-to-target (T-T) interactions are used for the weight initiation of the RNN based bidirectional long short term memory (BiLSTM) model which is then utilized to the prediction of DTIs. Since hyperparameters significantly affect the prediction performance of the BiLSTM technique, the Adam optimizer is used which mainly helps to improve the DTI prediction outcomes. In order to ensure the enhanced predictive outcomes of the DTIP-ORNN technique, a series of simulations are implemented on four benchmark datasets. CAPTCHA is an acronym that stands for Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA), it is a good example of an authentication system that can be used to determine the true identity of any user. It serves as a security measure to prevent an attack caused by web bots (automatic programs) during an online transaction. It can come as text-based or image-based depending on the project and the programmer. The usability and robustness, as well as level of security, provided each of the varies and call for the development of an improved system. Hence, this paper studied and improved two different CAPTCHA systems (the text-based CAPTCHA and image-based CAPTCHA). The textbased and image-based CAPTCHAwere designed using JavaScript. Response time and solving time are the two metrics used to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the two CAPTCHA systems. The inclusion of response time and solving time improved the shortfall of the usability and robustness of the existing system. The developed system was tested using 200 students from the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology. The results of each of the participants, for the two CAPTCHAs, were extracted from the database and subjected to analysis using SPSS. The result shows that textbased CAPTCHAhas the lowest average solving time (21.3333 s) with a 47.8% success rate while image-based CAPTCHA has the highest average solving time was 23.5138 s with a 52.8% success rate. The average response time for the image-based CAPTCHA was 2.1855 s with a 37.9% success rate lower than the text-based CAPTCHA response time (3.5561 s) with a 62.1% success rate. This indicates that the text-based CAPTCHA is more effective in terms of usability tests while image-based CAPTCHA is more efficient in terms of system responsiveness and recommended for potential users. In intelligent information systems data play a critical role. The issue of missing data is one of the commonplace problems occurring in data collected in the real world. The problem stems directly from the very nature of data collection. In this paper, the notion of handling missing values in a real-world application of computational intelligence is considered. Two experimental campaigns were conducted, evaluating different approaches to the missing values imputation on Random Forest-based classifiers, trained using modern cybersecurity benchmarks datasets: CICIDS2017 and IoT-23. In result of the experiments it transpired that the chosen algorithm for data imputation has a severe impact on the results of the classifier used for network intrusion detection. In this paper, based on a benchmark on the performance of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC), the improvement of this performance is presented comparatively by using Proportional Integrator (PI)-type controllers optimized by a Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) computational intelligence method, fractional order (FO)-type controllers based on differential and integral fractional calculus, and a PI-type controller in tandem with a Reinforcement Learning—Twin-Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (RL-TD3) agent. The main components of the UPQC are a series active filter and an Active Parallel Filter (APF) coupled to a common DC intermediate circuit. The active series filter provides the voltage reference for the APF, which in turn corrects both the harmonic content introduced by the load and the VDC voltage in the DC intermediate circuit. The UPQC performance is improved by using the types of controllers listed above in the APF structure. The main performance indicators of the UPQC-APF control system for the controllers listed above are: stationary error, voltage ripple, and fractal dimension (DF) of the VDC voltage in the DC intermediate circuit. Results are also presented on the improvement of both current and voltage Total harmonic distortion (THD) in the case of, respectively, a linear and nonlinear load highly polluting in terms of harmonic content. Numerical simulations performed in a MATLAB/Simulink environment demonstrate superior performance of UPQC-APF control system when using PI with RL-TD3 agent and FO-type controller compared to classical PI controllers. Degenerative nerve diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases have always been a global issue of concern. Approximately 1/6th of the world's population suffers from these disorders, yet there are no definitive solutions to cure these diseases after the symptoms set in. The best way to treat these disorders is to detect them at an earlier stage. Many of these diseases are genetic; this enables machine learning algorithms to give inferences based on the patient's medical records and history. Machine learning algorithms such as deep neural networks are also critical for the early identification of degenerative nerve diseases. The significant applications of machine learning and deep learning in early diagnosis and establishing potential therapies for degenerative nerve diseases have motivated us to work on this review paper. Through this review, we covered various machine learning and deep learning algorithms and their application in the diagnosis of degenerative nerve diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, we also included the recent advancements in each of these models, which improved their capabilities for classifying degenerative nerve diseases. The limitations of each of these methods are also discussed. In the conclusion, we mention open research challenges and various alternative technologies, such as virtual reality and Big data analytics, which can be useful for the diagnosis of degenerative nerve diseases. Most text clustering algorithms adopt a single criterion optimization approach, which often fails to find good clustering solutions for a wide diversity of datasets with different clustering characteristics. The multi-objective meta-heuristic approach is utilized to seek optimal clustering by maximizing (or minimizing) more than two objective functions. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective memetic differential evolution algorithm (MOMDE) for text clustering. The MOMDE text clustering algorithm combines memetic and differential evolution algorithms to improve the search for optimal clustering by improving the balance between exploitation and exploration. Moreover, a combination with the dominance-based multi-objective approach is employed, which may improve the search for optimal clustering by maximizing or/and minimizing two cluster quality measures. The proposed algorithm is tested on six text clustering datasets from the Laboratory of Computational Intelligence. Our experimental results revealed that the performance of the MOMDE algorithm is better than state-of-the-art text clustering algorithms. Further validation is provided using the F-measure to assess the efficiency of the obtained clustering of MOMDE, whilst the multi-objective performance assessment matrices are used to evaluate the quality of Pareto-optimality. The idea of a cubic bipolar fuzzy set (CBFS) is a new hybrid extension of the cubic set (CS) and the bipolar fuzzy set (BFS). A CBFS is a strong model to deal with bipolarity and fuzziness in terms of positive membership grades (PMGs) and negative membership grades (NMGs). A positive interval and a positive numbers represent a PMG to express the degree of belongingness of a specific property, and a negative interval and a negative number represent a NMG which defines the degree of non-belongingness of the specific property (or satisfaction level of its counter property). The aim of this paper is to define the cubic bipolar fuzzy topology under P-order (CBFSP topology) as well as the cubic bipolar fuzzy topology under R-order (CBFSR topology). We investigate certain properties and results of CBFSP topology and CBFSR topology. Topological structures on CBFSs are helping in the development of new artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for healthcare domain strategies and investigating various critical diseases. Such techniques allow for the early detection and investigation of diseases, assisting clinicians in minimizing the possible risk factors. An extended linear assignment model (LAM) and superiority and inferiority ranking method (SIR method) are proposed for healthcare diagnosis based on newly developed structures. This paper uses computational intelligence and machine learning methods to describe experimental modeling performed to approximate the static characteristics of one type of fluidic muscle from the manufacturer FESTO for three different muscle sizes. For the experiments, measured data from the manufacturer and data from a real system (i.e., test device) were used. The measurements, which took place on the experimental equipment, were carried out in two stages (i.e., when the muscle was pressed and when the muscle was relaxed). The resulting measured characteristics were obtained by averaging two values at a given moment. MATLAB® software was used for simulations, in which four models were created: MLP, SVM, ANFIS, and a custom model (i.e., polynomial model). Given that most articles mainly interpret their results graphically when approximating characteristics, in this article, the outputs of the models are also compared with the measured data based on the SSE, NRMSE, SBC, and AIC performance indicators, enabling a more relevant and comprehensive overview of the performance of the individual models. The outputs of the best models described in this article reach an accuracy of 89.90% to 98.74% (all from the MLP group), depending on the muscle size, compared to real measured outputs. Autonomous systems and the Internet of Things (IoT) have become more sophisticated research areas and entered successfully into various daily living activities such as smart homes & buildings, autonomous cars, drones, robots, etc. A crucial and essential aspect of these systems is the precision and accuracy of the decision-making process, i.e., the decision support system. Likewise, developing a completely autonomous system is an open research problem. This paper proposes a computational intelligence-based prediction and communication mechanism for the independent system where IoT is used as a data collection tool. Initially, energy gauge (EG) devices collect helpful information about neighboring devices in the IoT networks. Then, information about the potential relaying devices is broadcasted by the concerned EG device, which uses every member device to adjust routing path(s) in the autonomous system. Furthermore, every EG device has an embedded computational intelligent decision support system that is used to precisely predict the criticality of a neighboring device (preferably relay) in the autonomous systems. Therefore, every device must ensure data transmission via the most reliable path(s), i.e., avoiding critical devices if possible. A device is assumed critical if either its residual energy or received signal strength indicator value is less than the defined threshold values for the autonomous systems. Additionally, the proposed mechanism has ensured a uniform traffic distribution of the transmitted packets in the autonomous system. The operational applicability of the proposed computational intelligence-enabled prediction mechanism in the autonomous system is verified by comparing it with the existing approaches. The activated sludge process (ASP) is the most widely used biological wastewater treatment system. Advances in research have led to the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular, Nature-Inspired Algorithm (NIA) techniques such as Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize treatment systems. This has aided in reducing the complexity and computational time of ASP modelling. This paper covers the latest NIAs used in ASP and discusses the advantages and limitations of each algorithm compared to more traditional algorithms that have been utilized over the last few decades. Algorithms were assessed based on whether they looked at real/ideal treatment plant (WWTP) data (and efficiency) and whether they outperformed the traditional algorithms in optimizing the ASP. While conventional algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms (GAs), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) were found to be successfully employed in optimization techniques, newer algorithms such as Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), Bat Algorithm (BA), and Intensive Weed Optimization Algorithm (IWO) achieved similar results in the optimization of the ASP, while also having certain unique advantages. Based on an in-depth survey of the literature, the purpose of the paper is to explore cognitive artificial intelligence and machine learning-based predictive algorithms, digital twin and distributed sensing technologies, and simulation modeling and spatial data visualization tools. Throughout January 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including "the industrial metaverse" + "virtual modeling and immersive holographic imaging technologies," "cloud-based digital twin manufacturing and visual perceptive systems," and "bio-inspired computational intelligence and context awareness algorithms." As research published between 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 140 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By taking out controversial or ambiguous findings (insufficient/irrelevant data), outcomes unsubstantiated by replication, too general material, or studies with nearly identical titles, I selected 26 mainly empirical sources. Natural Language processing (NLP) derives its roots from artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. The proliferation of large-scale web corpora and social media data as well as advances in machine learning and deep learning have led to practical applications in diverse NLP areas such as machine translation, information extraction, named entity recognition (NER), text summarization and sentiment analysis. Named-entity recognition (NER), is a sub task of information extraction that seeks to discover and categorize specific entities such as nouns or relations in unstructured text. In this paper, we present a review of the foundations three tolerance-based granular computing methods (rough sets, fuzzy-rough sets and near sets) for representing structured (documents) and unstructured (linguistic entities) text. Applications of these methods are presented via semi-supervised and supervised learning algorithms in labelling relational facts from web corpora and sentiment classification (non-topic based text). The performance of the three presented algorithms is discussed in terms of bench marked datasets and algorithms. This paper reviews the researches on boiler combustion optimization, which is an important direction in the field of energy saving and emission reduction. Many methods have been used to deal with boiler combustion optimization, among which evolutionary computing (EC) techniques have recently gained much attention. However, the existing researches are not sufficiently focused and have not been summarized systematically. This has led to slow progress of research on boiler combustion optimization and has obstacles in the application. This paper introduces a comprehensive survey of the works of intelligent optimization algorithms in boiler combustion optimization and summarizes the contributions of different optimization algorithms. Finally, this paper discusses new research challenges and outlines future research directions, which can guide boiler combustion optimization to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollutant emission concentrations.

The concept of context awareness has been in existence since the 1990s. Though initially applied exclusively in computer science, over time it has increasingly been adopted by many different application domains such as business, health and military. Contexts change continuously because of objective reasons, such as economic situation, political matter and social issues. The adoption of big data analytics by businesses is facilitating such change at an even faster rate in much complicated ways. The potential benefits of embedding contextual information into an application are already evidenced by the improved outcomes of the existing context-aware methods in those applications. Since big data is growing very rapidly, context awareness in big data analytics has become more important and timely because of its proven efficiency in big data understanding and preparation, contributing to extracting the more and accurate value of big data. Many surveys have been published on context-based methods such as context modelling and reasoning, workflow adaptations, computational intelligence techniques and mobile ubiquitous systems. However, to our knowledge, no survey of context-aware methods on big data analytics for business applications supported by enterprise level software has been published to date. To bridge this research gap, in this paper first, we present a definition of context, its modelling and evaluation techniques, and highlight the importance of contextual information for big data analytics. Second, the works in three key business application areas that are context-aware and/or exploit big data analytics have been thoroughly reviewed. Finally, the paper concludes by highlighting a number of contemporary research challenges, including issues concerning modelling, managing and applying business contexts to big data analytics. Machine learning and augmented reality form very important computational tools in biomedicine, neurology and stomatology as well. The present paper is devoted to a novel method of spectroscopic detection of caries lesions that changes the optical properties of the affected tissue. This method of the diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is used in many biomedical areas even though the analysis of associated data suffers from a large variance of acquired signals' shape and their properties. The proposed methodology of measured spectra analysis is based upon general methods of signal feature evaluation and the use of computational intelligence for their classification. The paper compares properties of dental feature clusters for the set of 578 tissues with different levels of their changes. Classification results of selected features by the support vector machine, Bayesian method, k-nearest neighbour method and neural network enable to distinguish the healthy tissue and caries lesions with the accuracy from 94.1 to 98.4% and the cross-validation error lower than 8.3%. These results suggest how the augmented reality and general mathematical signal processing methods can be beneficial for diagnostic purposes in dental research and possibly in the clinical practice as well. Object recognition occurs accurately with human visual neural mechanism despite in different complex background interference. For computer system, it is still a challenging work of object recognition and classification. Recently, many methods for object recognition based on human visual perception mechanism are presented. However, most methods cannot achieve a better recognition accuracy when object images are corrupted by some background interferences. Therefore, it is necessary to propose a method for object recognition of complex scene. Inspired by biomimetic visual mechanism and visual memory, a multi-channel biomimetic visual transformation (MCBVT) is proposed in this paper. MCBVT involves three channels. Firstly, some algorithms including orientation edge detection (OED), local spatial frequency detection (LSFD) and weighted centroid coordinate calculation are adopted for two stage's visual memory maps creations during the first channel, where some visual memory points are stored in memory map. Secondly, an object hitting map (OHM) is built in the second channel and the OHM is an edge image without background interference. After that, the first stage's visual memory hitting map is obtained through execute back-tracking second stage's visual memory map. Furthermore, an OHM is constructed through back-tracking with common memory points in first stage's visual memory map and first stage's visual memory hitting map. Thirdly, the OED and LSFD algorithms are conducted to extract a feature map of OHM in the third channel. Consequently, the final feature map is reshaped into a feature vector, which is used for object recognition. Additionally, several image database experiments are implemented, the recognition accuracy for alphanumeric, MPEG-7 and GTSRB database are 93.33%, 91.33 and 90% respectively. Moreover, same object images in different backgrounds share with highly similar feature maps. On the contrary, different object images with complex backgrounds through MCBVT show different feature maps. The experiments reveal a better selectivity and invariance of MCBVT features. In summary, the proposed MCBVT provides a new framework of feature extraction. Background interference of object image is eliminated through the first and second channel, which is a new method for background noise reduction. Meanwhile, the results show that the proposed MCBVT method is better than other feature extraction methods. Uncertainty aggregation is an important reasoning for making decisions in the real world, which is full of uncertainty. The paper proposes an information source model for aggregating epistemic uncertainties about truth and discusses uncertainty aggregation in the form of possibility distributions. A new combination rule of possibilities for truth is proposed. Then, this paper proceeds to discussion about a traditional but seemingly forgotten representation of uncertainty (i.e., certainty factors (CFs)) and proposes a new interpretation based on possibility theory. CFs have been criticized because of their lack of sound mathematical interpretation from the viewpoint of probability. Thus, this paper first establishes a theory for a sound interpretation using possibility theory. Then it examines aggregation of CFs based on the interpretation and some combination rules of possibility distributions. This paper proposes observer-based piecewise multi-linear controllers for nonlinear systems using feedback and observer linearizations. The piecewise model is a nonlinear approximation and fully parametric. Feedback linearizations are applied to stabilize the piecewise multi-linear control system. Furthermore, observer linearizations are more conservative in modeling errors compared with feedback linearizations. In this paper, we propose robust observer designs for piecewise multi-linear systems. Moreover, we design piecewise multi-linear controllers that combine the robust observer with various performance such as a regulator and tracking controller. These design methods realize a separation principle that allows an observer and a regulator to be designed separately. Artificial intelligence algorithms have become a research hotspot in attempts to reduce NOx emissions in gas burners through NOx emission modeling and optimizing operating pa- rameters. This paper compres the predictive accuracy of NOx emission models based on LSSVM, SVR and ELM. CGA and three other GA based hybrid algorithms proposed to modify CGA were employed to optimize the operating parameters of a 30MW gas burner in order to reduce NOx emission. The results show that the NOx emission model built by LSSVM is more accurate than that of SVR and ELM. The mean relative error and correlation coeficient obtained by the LSSVM model were 0.0731% and 0.999, respectively. Among the four optimization algorithms, the novel TSGA proposed in this paper showed its superiority over the other three algorithms, excelling in its global searching ability and stability. Lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA), as a well-known point-of-care testing (POCT) technique, is of vital significance in a variety of application scenarios due to the advantages of convenience and high efficiency. With the process of increasing urbanization, there is great significance in obtaining urban change information by applying land cover change detection techniques. However, these existing methods still struggle to achieve convincing performances and are insufficient for practical applications. In this paper, we constructed a new data set, named Wenzhou data set, aiming to detect the land cover changes of Wenzhou City and thus update the urban expanding geographic data. Based on this data set, we provide a new self-attention and convolution fusion network (SCFNet) for the land cover change detection of the Wenzhou data set. The SCFNet is composed of three modules, including backbone (local–global pyramid feature extractor in SLGPNet), self-attention and convolution fusion module (SCFM), and residual refinement module (RRM). The SCFM combines the self-attention mechanism with convolutional layers to acquire a better feature representation. Furthermore, RRM exploits dilated convolutions with different dilation rates to refine more accurate and complete predictions over changed areas. In addition, to explore the performance of existing computational intelligence techniques in application scenarios, we selected six classical and advanced deep learning-based methods for systematic testing and comparison. The extensive experiments on the Wenzhou and Guangzhou data sets demonstrated that our SCFNet obviously outperforms other existing methods. Financial bubbles represent a severe problem for investors. In particular, the cryptocurrency market has witnessed the bursting of different bubbles in the last decade, which in turn have had spillovers on all the markets and real economies of countries. These kinds of markets and their unique characteristics are of great interest to researchers. Generally, investors and financial operators study market trends to understand when bubbles might occur using technical analysis tools. Such tools, which have been historically used, resulted in being precious allies at the basis of more advanced systems. In this regard, different autonomous, adaptive and automated trading agents have been introduced in the literature to study several kinds of markets. Among these, we can distinguish between agents with Zero/Minimal Intelligence (ZI/MI) and Computational Intelligence (CI)-based agents. The first ones typically trade on the market without resorting to complex learning strategies; the second ones usually use (deep) reinforcement learning mechanisms. However, these trading agents have never been tested on the cryptocurrencies market and related financial bubbles, which are still mostly overlooked in the literature. It is unclear how these agents can make profits/losses before, during, and after a bubble to adjust their strategy and avoid critical situations. This paper compares a broad set of trading agents (between ZI/MI and CI ones) and evaluates them with well-known financial indicators (e.g., volatility, returns Sharpe ratio, drawdown, Sortino and Omega ratio). Among the experiment's outcomes, ZI/MI agents were more explainable than CI ones. Based on the results obtained above, we introduce GGSMZ, a trading agent relying on a neuro-fuzzy mechanism. The neuro-fuzzy system is able to learn from the trades performed by the agents adopted in the previous stage. GGSMZ's performances overcome those of other tested agents. The use of computational intelligence (CI) in solar photovoltaic (SPV) systems has been on the rise due to the increasing computational power, advancements in power electronics and the availability of data generation tools. Thus, CI techniques have become an essential technology as the energy sector seeks to meet the rapidly increasing demand for clean, cheap, and reliable energy. The task of investing in financial markets to make profits and grow one's wealth is not a straightforward task. Typically, financial domain experts, such as investment advisers and financial analysts, conduct extensive research on a target financial market to decide which stock symbols are worthy of investment. The research process used by those experts generally involves collecting a large volume of data (e.g., financial reports, announcements, news, etc.), performing several analytics tasks, and making inferences to reach investment decisions. The rapid increase in the volume of data generated for stock market companies makes performing thorough analytics tasks impractical given the limited time available. Fortunately, recent advancements in computational intelligence methods have been adopted in various sectors, providing opportunities to exploit such methods to address investment tasks efficiently and effectively. This paper aims to explore rank-based approaches, mainly machine-learning based, to address the task of selecting stock symbols to construct long-term investment portfolios. Relying on these approaches, we propose a feature set that contains various statistics indicating the performance of stock market companies that can be used to train several ranking models. For evaluation purposes, we selected four years of Saudi Stock Exchange data and applied our proposed framework to them in a simulated investment setting. Our results show that rank-based approaches have the potential to be adopted to construct investment portfolios, generating substantial returns and outperforming the gains produced by the Saudi Stock Market index for the tested period. In the era of robotics, path planning and navigation of bipeds in multifaceted environments have always remained as one of the most promising areas of research. In this paper, a novel hybridized navigational controller is proposed using the logic of both statistical technique and computational intelligence method for path planning of bipeds. The proposed path controller is a hybridization of regression analysis with adaptive particle swarm optimization. The inputs given to the regression controller are in the forms of obstacle distances, and the output of the regression controller is interim turning angle. The output interim turning angle is again fed to the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller along with other inputs. The output of the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller termed as final turning angle acts as the directing factor for smooth navigation of bipeds in a cluttered environment. The proposed navigational controller is experimented for a bipedal robot in simulation and experimental environments. The outputs from various simulations and experimental results are compared and good agreement between navigational parameters like path length and path time is observed. The research on brain cognition provides theoretical support for intelligence and cognition in computational intelligence, and it is further applied in various fields of scientific and technological innovation, production and life. Use of the 5G network and intelligent terminals has also brought diversified experiences to users. This paper studies human perception and cognition in the quality of experience (QoE) through audio noise. It proposes a novel method to study the relationship between human perception and audio noise intensity using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. This kind of physiological signal can be used to analyze the user's cognitive process through transformation and feature calculation, so as to overcome the deficiency of traditional subjective evaluation. Experimental and analytical results show that the EEG signals in frequency domain can be used for feature learning and calculation to measure changes in user-perceived audio noise intensity. In the experiment, the user's noise tolerance limit for different audio scenarios varies greatly. The noise power spectral density of soothing audio is 0.001–0.005, and the noise spectral density of urgent audio is 0.03. The intensity of information flow in the corresponding brain regions increases by more than 10%. The proposed method explores the possibility of using EEG signals and computational intelligence to measure audio perception quality. In addition, the analysis of the intensity of information flow in different brain regions invoked by different tasks can also be used to study the theoretical basis of computational intelligence. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have exhibited significant performance gains over conventional machine learning techniques in solving various real-life problems in computational intelligence fields, such as image classification. However, most existing CNN architectures were handcrafted from scratch and required significant amounts of problem domain knowledge from designers. A novel deep learning method abbreviated as TLBOCNN is proposed in this paper by leveraging the excellent global search ability of teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) to obtain an optimal design of network architecture for a CNN based on the given dataset with symmetrical distribution of each class of data samples. A variable-length encoding scheme is first introduced in TLBOCNN to represent each learner as a potential CNN architecture with different layer parameters. During the teacher phase, a new mainstream architecture computation scheme is designed to compute the mean parameter values of CNN architectures by considering the information encoded into the existing population members with variable lengths. The new mechanisms of determining the differences between two learners with variable lengths and updating their positions are also devised in both the teacher and learner phases to obtain new learners. Extensive simulation studies report that the proposed TLBOCNN achieves symmetrical performance in classifying the majority of MNIST-variant datasets, displays the highest accuracy, and produces CNN models with the lowest complexity levels compared to other state-of-the-art methods due to its promising search ability. Computational intelligence techniques have been widely used for automatic building detection from high-resolution remote sensing imagery and especially the methods based on neural networks. However, existing methods do not pay attention to the value of high-frequency and low-frequency information in the frequency domain for feature extraction of buildings in remote sensing images. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a frequency spectrum intensity attention network (FSIANet) with an encoder–decoder structure for automatic building detection. The proposed FSIANet mainly involves two innovations. One, a novel and plug-and-play frequency spectrum intensity attention (FSIA) mechanism is devised to enhance feature representation by evaluating the informative abundance of the feature maps. The FSIA is deployed after each convolutional block in the proposed FSIANet. Two, an atrous frequency spectrum attention pyramid (AFSAP) is constructed by introducing FSIA in widely used atrous spatial pyramid pooling. The AFSAP is able to select the features with high response to building semantic features at each scale and weaken the features with low response, thus enhancing the feature representation of buildings. A graph structure is a useful tool in solving the combinatorial problems in different areas of computer science and computational intelligence systems. In this paper, we introduce the concept of cubic soft graph, complete cubic soft graph, (internal, external) cubic soft graphs and investigate some of their properties. Then we deal with fundamental operations, union, intersection, Cartesian product, composition of cubic soft graphs and illustrate these notions by several examples. In this paper, we propose a multiagent collaboration decision-making method for adaptive intersection complexity based on hierarchical reinforcement learning—H-CommNet, which uses a two-level structure for collaboration: the upper-level policy network fuses information from all agents and learns how to set a subtask for each agent, and the lower-level policy network relies on the local observation of the agent to control the action targets of the agents from each subtask in the upper layer. H-CommNet allows multiagents to complete collaboration on different time scales, and the scale is controllable. It also uses the computational intelligence of invehicle intelligence and edge nodes to achieve joint optimization of computing resources and communication resources. Through the simulation experiments in the intersection environment without traffic lights, the experimental results show that H-CommNet can achieve better results than baseline in different complexity scenarios when using as few resources as possible, and the scalability, flexibility, and control effects have been improved.
