According to our analysis of literature sources on the family Hydraenidae (Coleoptera: Staphylinoidea) of Iran, it is represented by 67 species and three genera: Hydraena Kugelann, 1794 (21 species), Limnebius Leach, 1815 (six species) and Ochthebius Leach, 1815 (40 species). Twenty-two species are supposed to be endemic to Iran. Here, for the first time, we summarize species distribution data in Iranian provinces and present them in a checklist of Iranian Hydraenidae. We also present two additional species lists: one with incorrect records (one species and one subspecies) and the other with unidentified species. © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The checklist comprises all species of six families of Iranian aquatic Polyphaga (Coleoptera). In total, 43 species/subspecies within the families, Georissidae (one species), Helophoridae (25 species and two subspecies), Hydrochidae (three species), Spercheidae (one species), Curculionidae (nine species) and Erirhinidae (two species) are listed for the fauna of Iran. Helophorus (Rhopalohelophorus) nanus Sturm, 1836 (Helophoridae) is recorded for the first time from Iran. We also present two additional species lists: one with incorrect records (one species) and the other with unidentified species. © 2018, © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group., Islamic Azad University, This research was supported by the Islamic Azad University (Yadegar-e-Imam Khomeini (RAH) Shahre Rey, and Shiraz Branches).

Gyrinus (Gyrinus) distinctus (Aub, 1838) Distribution in Iran. Alborz (Hematyian et al. 2010), Fars (Hosseinie 1978), Guilan (Guorguiev 1965c; Darilmaz et al. 2013), Khuzestan (Ghodrati et al. 2014), Lorestan (Farzam Motlagh et al. 2012), Markazi (Vafaei 2005; Vafaei et al. 2004), Mazandaran (Ochs 1953; Vafaei et al. 2009), Sistan & Baluchistan (Ochs 1957), Tehran (Vafaei et al. 2009), Iran (no locality cited) (Hafezieh 1997). General distribution. Afghanistan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Byelorussia, Croatia, China (Nei Mongol, Xinjiang, Xizang), Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India (Kashmir), Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Lybia, Macedonia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia (Central, Southern and Northern European Territory), Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Transcaucasia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, former Yugoslavia (Mazzoldi 2003), Iran (Guorguiev 1981; Mazzoldi 2003; Darilmaz & Kiyak 2006; Kiyak et al. 2006). Comments. This species has a dark ventral side. Specimens with a light ventral side were described by Rgimbart, 1883 as G. fairmairi. Generaly last species is considered as an aberration of G. distinctus. Ochs (1953), however, never found intermediate forms, at least leaving the discussion open if fairmairi is just an aberration of distinctus. Therefor records of G. fairmairi or G. distinctus faimairi are treated separately below. Bodemeyer (1927) collected Gyrinus natator Linn, 1758 in Guilan, in a pool in the Elbruz Mountains, but it most likely concerns G. distinctus. Along coasts of dam lakes and slowly flowing streams; fresh and brackish water (Kiyat et al. 2006). On surface of clear, small, slow-moving streams (Hosseinie 1978). Up to an altitude of 2100 m (Ochs 1953)., Published as part of Van Vondel, Bernhard J., Ostovan, Hadi & Ghahari, Hassan, 2017, An annotated checklist of Iranian Myxophaga (Hydroscaphidae, Sphaeriusidae) and Adephaga (Gyrinidae, Haliplidae, Noteridae, Rhysodidae) (Insecta: Coleoptera), pp. 225-246 in Zootaxa 4216 (3) on page 231, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.231790, {"references":["Hematyian, R., Vafaei Shushtari, R. & Ebrahimi, E.
