Two complexes, {[Co(4-pmntd)(H2O)4·Co(4-pmntd)(H2O)4]·4(NO3)·3H2O}n(1), {[Mn(4-pmntd)(SCN)2]·2(C2H5OH)}n(2), (4-pmntd =N,N′-bis(4-pyridylmethyl)naphthalene diimide) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyses, and X-ray single-crystal structure analysis. Complex1consisting of two kinds of 1D polymeric chains: 1D zigzag chain [Co(4-pmntd)(H2O)4] (A) and 1D linear chain [Co(4-pmntd)(H2O)4] (B), adjacent zigzag and linear chains in different layers are arranged in a cross-like fashion, resulting in a 3D plywood-like array. Complex2is a non-interpenetrating (4, 4)-sql net structure in edge-to-edge arrangement containing 1D channels. Their structural diversity, thermal stability, and fluorescence property of complexes1and2were investigated. Complex2shows enhanced fluorescence intensity at 420 nm upon the addition of 2 equiv of SCN−anion with respect to complex2. The complex2is promising for detecting SCN−anion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The brown cobalt(III) complex of the designed ligand bis(methyl 2-pyridylmethyl­idenehydrazinecarbodithio­ate) (HNNS), [Co(NNS)2]ClO4 or [Co(C8H8N3S2)2]ClO4, has been synthesized and characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and mass spectroscopic techniques. X-ray crystallography of the title compound has shown unambiguously that the crystallographic asymmetric unit consists of a [Co(NNS)2]+ cation and one ClO4− anion. The two NNS− ligands coordinate orthogonally to the central CoIII ion with a mer configuration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
