Objectives: The issue of needing additional lingual injection in extractions of mandibular premolar and incisors is still not clarified. The aim of this study is to investigate whether it is necessary to perform lingual injection in addition to buccal infiltration anesthesia in mandibular incisors and premolar teeth extractions. Materials and methods: Sixty-six patients who admitted to our clinic for the removal of bilateral mandibular anterior teeth were included in the present study. Patients were divided into two groups. The experimental group received only 1.5 ml of 2% lidocaine with 1:80,000 epinephrine by injection into the buccal vestibule of the tooth. The control group received 1.5 ml of 2% lidocaine with 1:80,000 epinephrine by buccal injection into the buccal side and 0.3 ml same lidocaine solution injected into the lingual side of the tooth. After 5 min, tooth was extracted and each patient was asked to record the intensity of injection and extraction pain by 0–100 mm and a 10-point Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and six-pointed Face Pain Scale (FPS). Results: The injection pain scores were significantly higher in terms of the VAS 0–10 point and 0–100 mm and FPS in the control group to which additional lingual injections were applied than the experimental group (p < 0.05). No statistically significant differences were found in all three scales between the groups in terms of extraction pain (p > 0.05). The mean extraction pain scores were lower in the experimental group according to the three scales. No additional anesthetic injection and post-operative complications were observed in all patients. Conclusions: The extraction of mandibular incisors and premolar teeth can only be done with only the buccal infiltration. Clinical relevance: In the extraction of mandibular anterior teeth, it can be performed with less anesthetic amount without the need for an additional lingual injection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the use of ozone therapy in dentistry has become widespread, the number of controlled clinical trials evaluating its effectiveness in periodontal therapy is limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ozone treatment, that is used in concert with scaling and root planning (SRP), on clinical periodontal parameters and to analyze its effect on cytokine levels of GCF in aggressive periodontitis patients. Totally, 27 patients with aggressive periodontitis were randomly selected into groups of treatment with either subgingival SRP followed by application of ozone with a periodontal probe (SRP+ozone) or subgingival SRP followed by irrigation with serum irrigation (SRP-control). The following parameters were evaluated at baseline (T0), and 6 weeks (T1): plaque index (PI); gingival index (GI); probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), GCF volume, GCF Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and GCF Interleukin-10 (IL-10) cytokine levels. There was a significant difference in terms of clinical periodontal parameters before and after treatment in both groups. When comparing between groups, there was no significant difference between the treatment methods after 6 weeks with respect to the PI, PPD, CAL, and GCF IL-10 levels. In contrast, GI, GCF volume, and GCF IL-1β levels were statistically significantly different between the two groups at the 6th week after treatment. Application of ozone as an adjunctive therapy to SRP was shown to provide a statistically significant improvement in treatment results compared to SRP plus serum irrigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: In this retrospective study, it was aimed to evaluate the clinical and pathological features of cases diagnosed with OKC and the recurrence status after treatment options. Material and Methods: 41 patients who were treated with the diagnosis of OKC between December 2015-June 2018 and whose preand post-treatment follow-up data could be reached were included in the study. As the variables examined, age and gender of the patients, localization of cyst and radiographic features, histopathological findings, treatment methods and recurrence status were investigated retrospectively. Results: Of 41 patients with a mean age of 36.68±17.89 (age range 13 to 78) years, 24 (58.5%) were males and 17 (41.5%) were females. It was determined that OKCs were observed most frequently in the third decades (21.9%) followed by the second and fourth decades (19.5%). The incidence of OKC was determined to be higher in the mandible (80.5%) than in the maxilla (19.5%). The recurrence was observed in 7 of 41 cases (17.1%) after the treatment. The recurrence was detected particularly in mandibular posterior and larger lesions. The fact that five of the seven recurrent cases were parakeratotic and likewise five cases were treated with enucleation was noteworthy. Conclusions: The treatment and prognosis of OKC should be determined according to the condition of the case and the treatment protocol should be managed accordingly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
