Background: The effective transfer of knowledge and skills is the primary goal of nursing education. Despite this, little is known about how knowledge and skills gained through international collaborative nursing educational programs is applied by nurses., Objectives: To describe the experiences of knowledge and skills transfer among nursing graduates from an international collaborative educational program to their clinical practice and ongoing study., Methods: A qualitative design was employed for this study. In 2023, fifteen interviews were conducted with nursing graduates from a Chinese-Swedish collaborative nursing educational program at Lishui University in eastern China. Directed content analysis was utilized to analyze the interview data., Results: Nursing graduates gained both knowledge and skills that surpassed the educational goals of the international collaborative program. Throughout the application and transfer of knowledge and skills, participants reported both positive and negative experiences. Notably, a gap persisted between basic nursing theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. Additionally, deficiencies were identified in the transfer of nursing research knowledge, indicating areas for improvement in future nursing education., Conclusion: The findings suggest that knowledge and skills from an international collaborative nursing educational program can be successfully transferred to clinical nursing practice and postgraduate study. However, addressing the gap between theoretical knowledge and practice, particularly in updated basic nursing knowledge and practice, is essential. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effect of team-based learning on the core competence of nursing students compared with traditional teaching methods., Background: In recent years, team-based learning has been widely used as a learning and teaching method in the world. Not only the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes, but also the core competence is necessary to cope with various clinical situations for nursing students. However, the effect of this new teaching method on core competence of nursing students is not consistent., Design: The study was designed according to the preferred reporting entries guidelines statement for systematic reviews and meta-analyses and population, intervention, comparison, outcome and study., Methods: Data were collected from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Scopus. The quality of studies was assessed using "The Newcastle Ottawa scale". A random-effect model of meta-analyses was conducted to generate pooled standardized mean differences (SMD) for core competence using Rev Man 5.4.1 software and STATASE 15. Moreover, subgroup, heterogeneity, sensitivity and publication bias analyses were conducted., Results: A total of 14 articles with 1942 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the traditional pedagogy among nursing students, team-based learning pedagogy significantly increased theoretical performance, professional effects (self-directed learning ability and communication ability) but did not affect practice skills. In addition, one study found that learning attitudes were not improved in students with high or low academic performance. This might mean that the teaching model should be implemented for a long time, which essentially changed students' learning attitudes to improve students' self-directed learning ability and core competence, especially for students with low scores., Conclusions: In summary, findings indicated that team-based learning pedagogical approaches might be beneficial to improve teaching quality in nursing education. However, practice skills might not be sensitive to team-based learning because of the seriation of the original course. Background: This study aimed to compare the effect of virtual and traditional education on theoretical knowledge and reporting skills of dental students in radiographic interpretation of bony lesions of the jaw., Methods: This experimental study evaluated 39 dental students who had not received any instruction regarding radiographic interpretation of bony lesions of the jaw. They were randomly divided into two groups of virtual (n = 20) and traditional education (n = 19) and matched in terms of their grade point average (GPA). The virtual group received a virtual learning package while the traditional group received traditional classroom instruction for 6 one-hour sessions. Similar contents were taught to both groups by the same mentor. All students participated in a theoretical test with multiple-choice questions and an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). Similar exams were also held 2 months later to assess knowledge retention. Data were analyzed using independent sample t-test and repeated measures ANOVA., Results: The mean scores of theoretical test (P < 0.05) and OSCE (P > 0.05) in the virtual education group (16.60 ± 0.91 and 15.13 ± 0.78) were higher than those in the traditional education group (14.89 ± 0.99 and 14.71 ± 0.92). In both methods of instruction, the mean scores of theoretical test and OSCE at 2 months were lower than the scores acquired immediately after instruction but this difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Type of education had a significant effect on the theoretical test score (P < 0.001) but had no significant effect on the clinical score (P = 0.072)., Conclusions: Virtual learning was superior to traditional lecture-based method for enhancement of knowledge acquisition in radiographic interpretation of bony lesions of the jaw. However, to improve our students' reporting skills, we need to revise our virtual educational program so that the students have more opportunities to engage in reporting skills.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to find out the training received in Urgent and Emergency Medicine (UEM) by the Primary Health Care (PHC) physicians of Asturias (Spain), as well as their perception of their own theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a series of procedures employed in life-threatening emergencies (LTEs), and also to analyze the differences according to the geographical area of their work., Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey of PHC physicians using an ad hoc survey of a sample of 213 physicians in Asturias regarding their self-perception of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in techniques used in LTEs by areas of work (rural, suburban, and urban). The interview was conducted by mail from April through May 2017. The data processing has used absolute and relative frequencies, as well as central tendency parameters and dispersion parameters. The estimates for the entire population have been made using confidence intervals for the mean of 95%. In the comparison of parameters, the differences between parameters with a probability of error less than five percent (P<.05) have been considered significant. For the comparison of means between the different techniques in the different areas of work, ANOVA was used., Results: With respect to the training of physicians, in general, for managing emergencies, both at the regional level and by areas of work (rural, suburban, and urban), none of the sets analyzed attained five points. By areas of work, it was the suburban region where there was a greater average general level of knowledge. There were significant differences in the average theoretical knowledge and the average practical skills in the procedures studied according to the different areas of work. The greater number of significant differences was between the urban and suburban regions and within the urban area., Conclusions: It's necessary to ensure an adequate homogeneity of the levels of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of PHC physicians in order to guarantee the equity of provision of health care in emergencies in different geographical areas. Background: Basic knowledge of electrosurgery and patient's safety during laparoscopic setup are fundamental, as laparoscopic surgical skills do. The aim of this prospective case-control study was to assess the improvement of such knowledge and skills among gynecologists., Methods: Gynecologists attending a training course on laparoscopy at the Centre International de Chirurgie Endoscopique (CICE), Clermont Ferrand (France) (December 2013-March 2014) were asked to answer a questionnaire about their own clinical activity and basic surgical knowledge and skills at the beginning and end of the course. The questionnaire included multiple choice questions about technical (four questions) and safety (five questions) aspects of laparoscopic set up and electrosurgery (five questions)., Results: Sixty-two residents and 68 graduated gynecologists completed pre- and post-course questionnaires (PrQ and PoQ, respectively). Considering 9 as an arbitrary cut-off score indicating an adequate theoretical knowledge, a total of 70 (51.8 %) and 128 (94.8 %) participants had a sufficient score at the PrQ and PoQ, respectively. Only 9.6 % of participants were able to complete PoQ without making any mistakes, with a mean PrQ score of 9.5. At the beginning, the most difficult steps in laparoscopy in participants' opinion were intra-corporeal suture and insufflation of pneumoperitoneum (both 36.1 %). After the course and the practical training, only 20 % of participants still indicated intra-corporeal suture as the most difficult., Conclusion: Education on electro surgery and basic laparoscopic setting and laparoscopic practical training are necessary to improve and maintain laparoscopic surgical skills. The assessment of that knowledge is mandatory to define surgical competence.

Background & Objective: Clinical education stands as a critical domain for enhancing clinical skills. Evolving global demands, marked by an information explosion and dynamic shifts in disease patterns, coupled with deficiencies in clinical training and its disconnect from theoretical knowledge, pose significant challenges in patient care. This study aims to explore the obstacles and challenges associated with applying theoretical knowledge from the general medicine course in clinical practice. Materials & Methods: This qualitative research employed a conventional content analysis approach. Twenty participants, each with a minimum of one year of clinical education experience, were purposefully selected to ensure maximum diversity. Data were collected and analyzed through individual semi-structured interviews. Results: The data analysis identified five main categories as the primary challenges in applying theoretical knowledge in the clinical environment. These include "weakness of inputs," "weakness of policy," "ineffective training and novice practitioners," "ethical lapses, unprofessional conduct," and "challenges while studying." Additionally, 14 subcategories were derived, collectively representing the main challenges faced. Conclusion: The application of theoretical knowledge acquired in various aspects of clinical education is hampered by diverse challenges. These challenges manifest at different levels, encompassing management, policy, infrastructure, and human and material resources. There is a growing demand for comprehensive evaluations of the clinical learning quality of nursing education and the necessity to establish robust predictors and mediators for enhancing its outcomes within the context of mental health practice. This study is threefold: 1. Evaluating nursing students' clinical learning quality before and after mental health nursing practice; 2. Establish if the grade of a theoretical course in mental health nursing and the student's perception of their theoretical knowledge level predicts the grade of mental health nursing practice; 3. Explore how model learning opportunities, self-directed learning, safety, and nursing care quality mediate learning environment quality and tutorial strategies quality following mental health nursing practice. Using a before and after the study, 107 undergraduate nursing students at an Israeli university completed a questionnaire and the Clinical Learning Quality Evaluation Index tool to assess their perceptions of clinical learning quality before and after mental health nursing practice. The results showed a decline in students' perceptions of tutorial strategy quality following mental health practical learning in clinical settings, with the theoretical course grade predicting the practical experience grade and underscoring the mediating role of learning opportunities between the learning environment and tutorial strategies. The study's findings emphasize the importance of an adaptive learning environment and a solid theoretical foundation in fostering effective tutorial strategies and enhancing the overall learning outcomes for nursing students in mental health education. Neonatal skin care practices are considered crucial for a neonate's survival and are closely related to healthcare professionals' (HPs) knowledge and skills in delivering scientifically valid neonatal care interventions. In this descriptive cross-sectional pilot study, conducted in 2022, we aimed to assess HPs' basic theoretical knowledge of neonatal vernix caseosa, skin microbiota, and bathing as well as knowledge regarding evidence-based clinical practices (referred to as "clinical knowledge") for preterm neonatal skin care. Eligible participants were neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetricians, midwives and nurses working in the Greek setting. The research instrument was an online questionnaire designed by the research team. Finally, 123 HPs took part in the study. The theoretical, clinical and total knowledge scores were all significantly associated with age, healthcare profession and the sources used for education. Participants' theoretical and clinical knowledge scores were compared and found not to differ significantly (p = 0.566). A significant and positive correlation was found between theoretical and clinical knowledge scores. Thus, it is concluded that HPs should be updated with the latest evidence-based knowledge and clinical guidelines in order to provide neonatal skin care with high-quality standards. In addressing the significant role of career counselling as a key element for the entire counselling profession, this article points to the need of strengthening career counselling training in counsellor education. It argues that counsellor training programs and counsellor educators should draw more attention to the career counselling component in training. It also proposes some considerations of consolidating and refining the career counselling component in counsellor preparation, with a focus on helping counsellor trainees acquire theoretical knowledge and accumulate clinical competency in the career counselling domain.
