- Abstract
Objectives: Given the pervasiveness of emotional and behavioral deficits of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), there is a pressing need for effective interventions to address their difficulties on Facial Expression Recognition and Emotion Understanding (FER/EU). Qunatiandi, a structured, app-based intervention program that is designed for Chinese children with ASD was utilized in this study. Three young children (two girls and one boy; age M ¼ 4.94 years) completed an 8-week one-on-one intervention in a rehabilitation center setting. It was hypothesized that the three children would show greater progress in their FER/EU. Methods: In this study, a modified multiple probe across the program phases design was used; the dependent variable was the percentage of unprompted correct receptive identification responses for FER/EU tests during instruction and probes. Data were taken during baseline, the endpoint of instruction sessions, and a maintenance stage followed by intervention termination. Results: Findings of the study revealed that all participants demonstrated significant improvements in social acuity, gains were mostly achieved on emotion distinguishing and understanding (above 80% of accuracy). A similar scoring pattern was also found in the maintenance probe phase. Conclusion: The study is one of only a few early intervention projects to improve FER/EU skills for children with ASD using an app-based intervention. The results demonstrated that children with ASD can experience increases in emotion distinguishing and understanding skills. Maintenance probe results showed that the interventional effect can be maintained for a period of time after intervention.

Given the pervasiveness of emotional and behavioral deficits in individuals with autism spectrum disorders, there is a pressing need for effective interventions to address their difficulties in social communication and interactions. This study examines the effectiveness of a software application-based intervention (ABI) program that embeds several widely recognized evidence-based practices into an adaptive training system to directly address the challenges in core social skills faced by children with autism. This research expands the current body of studies by incorporating puppet role-play, conversation partner role-play activities with video modeling, Social Stories, and question answering via the correction staircase approach in the program. A sequential explanatory mixed methods design was adopted, and this divided the research into two phases. The statistical portion of the study compared the ABI group with the treatment as usual (TAU) group using a randomized controlled trial pretest-posttest design. Nineteen participants were examined in this phase. Four measures of functioning – Social Responsiveness Scale-2, Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-3, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-3, and Social Communication Questionnaire – were utilized to compare the treatment approaches. Nonparametric tests (random permutation and Mann-Whitney U) were used to compare the treatments; the results demonstrated that participants who received ABI functioned at a significantly higher level at posttest than those who received TAU. A multiple probe across participant design, replicated for four groups in phase two, was used to collect quantitative data across the baseline, intervention, maintenance, and generalization portions of the study. Participants significantly improved their social greeting, self-introduction, and play-initiation skills through the ABI program. The effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated based on student engagement and performance in discriminating, understanding, and expressing the target behaviors through their role-play and adaptive training sessions. Procedural reliability, interobserver agreement, and effectiveness data demonstrated that the procedures and the teachers were successful in imparting the target skills. The performance of nine out of 11 participants remained at very high accuracy levels in the maintenance probes, demonstrating stable or upward trends in target behaviors compared to the intervention sessions. The generalization probes showed that most of the students were able to generalize the skills learned to new conversation partners, and the participants performed better when interacting with new adults than with novel peers.

Rapid urbanization and consumerization are leading to significant transformation and spatial restructuring in the rural areas of China's suburbs. Promoting the commodification of rural nature with capital has become an important strategy for rural spatial restructuring. However, the research on how capital reshapes rural space from the perspective of rural nature is still insufficient. Based on the theoretical perspective of nature commodification, this study constructs a framework to analyze the relationship between rural nature and rural spatial restructuring. Taking Nanping Meditation Town in Guangzhou as a typical case, it discusses the process and mechanism of rural spatial restructuring in suburbs relying on the commodification of rural nature with capital's intervention. The results show that: (1) Driven by China's process of counter-urbanization and consumerism, capital constructs rural nature in suburbs by giving meaning to it. Diversified capitals promote the multi-functionalization, networking, and commodification of material, social, and cultural spaces in the countryside through the process of redistribution of urban and rural resources. At the same time, along with the spatial games of pluralistic subjects, the material, social, and cultural spaces further interact with each other and constantly undergo reconstruction. (2) The commodification of rural nature is an external response and a crucial strategy of rural spatial restructuring. It offers a new approach to enhance the value of the countryside. Rural nature is commodified through resources integration and value excavation, product planning and design, brand promotion and marketing under the influence of various capital entities. This process holds significant theoretical and practical importance for the endogenous development and revitalization of rural areas. • A theoretical framework to analyze rural spatial restructuring in suburbs and commodification of rural nature under the intervention of capital. • Driven by rapid urbanization and consumer economy, the construction of rural nature by capital has promoted the reshaping of rural material landscape, social networks, and cultural space. • Rural spatial restructuring in suburbs is the redistribution and commercialization of space and resources between urban and rural areas under capital's intervention. It is along with the spatial game of pluralistic subjects. • The commodification of rural nature is an external response to rural spatial restructuring. Rural nature is commodified through resources integration and value excavation, product planning and design, brand promotion and marketing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Multi-stakeholder (e.g., governments, residents, the "3C" of community and "third party") co-governance has become a hot topic in the community-renewal research field. However, the co-ordination of various rights and interests hinders the co-governance of multiple stakeholders, particularly in China. Current research on the mechanisms of multiple co-governance remains inadequate. This article presents a typical case of multi-stakeholder co-governance for community renewal with respect to adding elevators to an apartment building in Shanghai's inner city. The multi-stakeholder co-governance process involved in this research differs from the traditional model, which is mainly led by governments. Field investigations and in-depth interviews were employed to explore how multiple stakeholders conduct dialogues and negotiations in the process of elevator installation. We summarize the key elements of community renewal, show the internal mechanism, and provide a new practical and methodological investigation of multi-stakeholder co-governance. This article highlights the significance of a good interest-co-ordination mechanism and simplification of the community-renewal process. It is also suggested to encourage the participation of multiple stakeholders and to promote co-operation between the community and enterprises in community governance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Regional collaborative development mainly emphasizes the relationship and degree of connection between cities. Linkages among cities are more complex and diversified in the age of globalization, so that regional economic collaborative development has become even more important than ever. Domestic and foreign competition must be dealt with to enhance the comprehensive strengths of urban agglomeration. This study takes the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) as a representative case to analyze and evaluate the economic synergistic development capacities of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration (YRDUA). Location quotients and industrial structure similarity coefficients show that cities with high levels of economic development provide advantages for secondary and tertiary industries, while cities with relatively low economic development levels provide clearer advantages for primary industries. Regarding the movement of the economic barycenter from 2001 to 2016, the overall directional trend was towards the northwest cities. The strength of economic linkages between cities is closely related to distance, population, and levels of economic development. The degree of economic development directly affects the capacity of collaborative development among cities, which then influences the extent of regional collaborative development. Highlights • Yangtze River Delta (YRD) collaborative economic development is progressing. • Economic linkage strength is dependent on distance, population, and economic development levels. • Cities vary depending on primary, secondary, and tertiary development levels. • Development of tertiary industry is key to urban agglomeration. • Coordinated and integrated economic development is essential across industries.
