Synthesizing theories of ethical leadership, psychological climate, pro-environmental behavior, and gender, first, we proposed and tested a model linking supervisors’ ethical leadership and organizational environmental citizenship behavior via a green psychological climate. Then, we tested the moderating effect of gender on the indirect (via a green psychological environment) relationship between supervisors’ ethical leadership and organizational environmental citizenship behavior. Time-lagged (three waves, 2 months apart) survey data were collected from 447 employees in various manufacturing and service sector firms operating in China. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling, bootstrapping, and multigroup techniques to test the hypothesized relationships. The results showed a positive relationship between employee ratings of supervisors’ ethical leadership and organizational environmental citizenship behavior. Moreover, a green psychological climate mediates the relationship between supervisors’ ethical leadership and organizational environmental citizenship behavior. Importantly, the multigroup analysis revealed that gender moderates the indirect relationship (via green psychological climate) between supervisors’ ethical leadership and organizational environmental citizenship behavior. The study carries useful practical implications for policymakers and managers concerned about environmental sustainability.

The age and growth and population dynamics of the black pomfret, Parastromateus niger and the frigate tuna, Auxis thazard thazard were studied from specimens collected monthly in the Taiwan Strait from April 2005 to March 2006. With five age groups of each, the dominant black pomfret was one year, while frigate tuna was two years. The total mortality coefficient (Z) and the fishing mortality (F) of the black pomfret were at high levels, the exploitation ratio (E) was over 0.5, and the number of captured juvenile fishes showed that the stock of black pomfret in this area was overexploited and improper fishing gear was utilized. Compared with previous studies, the maximum and mean fork length, body weight and age of the two fishes declined gradually, the populations were younger in age and smaller in size. The growth coefficient k increased and age at the inflexion point of weight t r was younger than before. The smaller change of the fork length at first maturity of the two fishes has indicated a more vulnerable fishery ecosystem in this area. Therefore, in addition to the traditional fishery management approach, such as taking the minimum length into consideration, ecosystem approach to fisheries management (EAF) should be taken to improve the practical fishing management, including conserving the small pelagic fishery population in order to achieve the sustainable fishing of the stocks.La edad y crecimiento de la palometa negra, Parastromateus niger y del atún fragata o melva, Auxis thazard thazard se estudiaron a partir de especímenes capturados mensualmente en el estrecho de Taiwan, entre abril 2005 y marzo 2006. Se determinaron cinco grupos de edad, siendo dominante en la palometa negra los ejemplares de un ano, mientras que en el atún fragata los de dos anos. El coeficiente de mortalidad total (Z) y la mortalidad por pesca (F) de la palometa negra se encontraron en niveles altos. La tasa de explotación E resultó sobre 0,5 y el número de peces juveniles capturados demuestra que la población está sobreexplotada en la región y los equipos de pesca utilizados resultan inadecuados. En comparación con estudios previos, la longitud horquilla máxima y media, el peso corporal y la edad en ambas especies ha disminuido en forma gradual, presentando las poblaciones peces de menor edad y tamano. El coeficiente de crecimiento k aumentó y la edad en el punto de inflexión en peso t r se obtuvo en ejemplares más jóvenes que en anos previos. El pequeno cambio de la longitud horquilla determinado en la primer madurez en las dos especies indica que en esta zona, el ecosistema pesquero se encuentra más vulnerable. Por eso, además del enfoque tradicional en la gestión de la pesca, como la adopción de una longitud mínima, se requiere adoptar el enfoque ecosistémico a la ordenación de la pesca (EEP) para mejorar la conservación de la población de pequenos pelágicos y lograr así el desarrollo sostenible de los recursos pesqueros.

For the past decade, the level of carbon dioxide emission in most cities in China is on the ascendancy. Yet, better prediction of environmental pollution is at the fringes of recent studies. Several erstwhile researchers have attempted predicting pollution whilst utilising approaches including the ordinary linear regressions, multivariate regressions, autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), evolutionary and some conventional swarm intelligence. These conventional approaches, however, lead but to imprecise predictions owing to the inherent parameter problems characterised in those approaches. Consequently, there is the need for a better prediction of the key antecedents that affect air pollution whilst using robust techniques. This current study, therefore predicts the carbon emissions levels of China into the next decade, in response to changes in key economic variables: energy consumption, economic growth, trade, and urbanisation. This is to aid in monitoring and implementing of tailored policies and transformations in China and in similar developing and emerging economies. Our findings revealed a steadily rise in emissions as the economy grows during the initial years but decline in the ensuing forecasted period. The findings of the impulse response function, revealed that in the next decade, urbanisation, and trade (import and export) will be the major contributors of carbon dioxide emission. The proposed Brainstorm optimisation algorithms prediction model was verified and validated with actual data. This study investigates the role of international trade in mitigating carbon dioxide emission as a nation economically advances. This study disaggregated the international trade into total exports and total imports. A multivariate model framework was estimated for the time series data for the period of 1970-2014. The quantile regression detected all the essential relationship, which hitherto, the traditional ordinary least squares could not capture. A cointegration relationship was confirmed using the Johansen cointegration model. The findings of the Granger causality revealed the presence of a uni-directional Granger causality running from energy consumption to economic growth; from import to economic growth; from imports to exports; and from urbanisation to economic growth, exports and imports. Our study established the presence of long-run relationships amongst carbon dioxide emission, economic growth, energy consumption, imports, exports and urbanisation. A bootstrap method was further utilised to reassess the evidence of the Granger causality, of which the results affirmed the Granger causality in the long run. This study confirmed a long-run N-shaped relationship between economic growth and carbon emission, under the estimated cubic environmental Kuznet curve framework, from the perspective of China. The recommendation therefore is that China as export leader should transform its trade growth mode by reducing the level of carbon dioxide emission and strengthening its international cooperation as it embraces more environmental protectionisms. The efforts of businesses, governmental and non-governmental organizations notwithstanding, unsustainable consumption continues to threaten society's vision of sustainable development. Green purchasing, therefore, offers a chance of reducing negative environmental impacts and promoting sustainable development. Yet, the question of how to encourage green purchasing behaviour remains poorly understood. Based on the theory of consumption values, this paper examines the antecedents of green purchasing intentions among young adults in Chinese cities. The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was applied to data collected from 309 respondents by means of a mall-intercept survey. The findings indicate that social and emotional values are positively related to young adults' green purchasing intentions, but functional, conditional and epistemic values are not significantly related to green purchasing intentions. This paper has verified the contribution of the theory of consumption values to the green purchasing intentions of young adults in Chinese cities. The concentration of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) in the atmosphere of urban Beijing was measured from October 2003 to September 2004 to investigate the origins and spatial-temporal variations of atmospheric Hg. The mean value of Hg concentration is 17.1 ng⋅m-3 (n=653). The atmospheric Hg data showed spatial-temporal variations throughout the duration of our observation. The maximum GEM concentration (53.7 ng⋅m-3) was observed at Gucheng in the western area of urban Beijing. The GEM concentrations increased from the north to the south of the studied area, and were higher in winter than in summer. The highest and lowest monthly averages of GEM concentrations were measured to be 23.3 and 4.1 ng⋅m-3 in January and July, respectively. In addition, GEM concentrations are higher in the daytime than at night in Autumn and from 14 March to 15 April, but daily GEM variation showed an inverse pattern from 22 April to 22 May. In winter, two peak values of GEM concentrations occurred at 13:30 and 21:30. Daily variation of GEM concentrations in summer was the lowest in the four seasons. Mercury from coal combustion was estimated to be the main source of anthropogenic emissions in Beijing from October 2003 to September 2004. Mining and the utilization of mineral resources, especially coal for energy consumption, are considered a major contributor to China's total index of environmental pollution, but there is less focus on its sustainable development. This study focused on the influence of research and development (R&D) on the sustainable development capabilities of 45 coal mining cities in China from 2008 to 2017. These cities were grouped into growing, maturity, declining, and regeneration categories. A DEAP model together with the Malmquist productivity index were used in calculating their sustainable development capabilities. It emerged that the R&D inclination for the coal mining cities was low at an average of 0.3406 and its influence has not pushed enough to reach the production frontier. The overall sustainable development capabilities of the four categories of coal mining cities were 0.6918 and also proved to have an unstable trend. There was evidence of inefficiencies in some categories of resource input and output. Technological changes (TECHCH) that promote the sustainable development capabilities grew at 12.2% for the period, which is moderately significant but still needs improvement. Major factors hindering the sustainable development of coal mining cities were insufficient desired input indicators including decisional capabilities, recovery in the treatment of pollution, and effective utilization of resources. Abstract: The spatial variation of soil gas radon values were correlated with the seismogenic faults and earthquakes in the Tangshan area (north China). Radon concentrations were measured at 756 sites in an area about 2500 km2 from April to May 2010. The background and anomaly threshold values calculated were 4730.4 Bq/m3 and 8294.1 Bq/m3, respectively. Radon concentrations highlight a decreasing gradient from NE to SW in the area. Higher values mostly distributed in the NE sector of the Tangshan fault and the Luanxian fault where the Tangshan (Ms 7.8), and Luanxian (MS 7.1) earthquakes occurred in 1976 and 17 earthquakes with MS = 3.0 occurred in this area since 2005. Radon values illustrated a close relation with the shallow fault trace and earthquake activity in the area. The active fault zones and the associated fractures formed by the larger earthquakes, act as paths for radon migration. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
