Background: The Bostrichidae is a small family of Coleoptera, with up to 600 described species all over the world. Almost 90 species of the family have been recorded in China at present and several new species of powder-post beetles have been described in recent years. Since the 1940s, the family Bostrichidae has become a neglected group in the taxonomy research of the Chinese mainland compared with its extensive territorial and super complex ecological diversity. Thus, there is need for more field specimen collection and in-depth taxonomic study. New information: In this study, two powder-post beetles species Trogoxylon spinifrons (Lesne, 1910) and Minthea bivestita Lesne, 1937, are recorded for the first time from China. Based on the examination of specimens housed in several scientific collections, we expand the known tiger beetle fauna of China, and eight species are recorded from China for the first time. The occurrence of Cicindela (Cicindela) sachalinensis raddei Morawitz, 1863 in Shanxi Province, and Neocollyris (Neocollyris) saphyrina (Chaudoir, 1850) in China are re-established. We provide distribution maps and habitus photographs of examined specimens for the newly recorded and revised species. Two new species of the genus Houaphanica Novák, 2020 from China (Fujian Province) are described as follows: Houaphanica wuyishanica sp. nov. and Houaphanica ziyungdongica sp. nov. These are the first records of Houaphanica species from the Palaearctic Region. The new species are described, illustrated (including male genitalia) and compared with one another. The Pterostichus pulcher species group of the subgenus Orientostichus Sciaky & Allegro is defined for P. pulcher Sciaky & Allegro and six new allied species. All seven species of this group are revised on morphological characters. Six new species are described from south of Sichuan province, China: P. pemphis sp. nov. (type locality: Shuihaizi, Puge county, 27.33°N, 102.45°E), P. orbicollis sp. nov. (Longzhoushan, Huili county, 26.79°N, 102.20°E), P. leo sp. nov. (Shizishan, Jinyang county, 27.88°N, 103.23°E), P. liyuani sp. nov. (Luojishan, Puge county, 27.58°N, 102.39°E), P. condylus sp. nov. (Yele, Mianning county, 28.96°N, 102.16°E), P. jialini sp. nov. Three new riffle beetles of the genus Zaitzevia Champion, 1923 are described from China, namely Zaitzevia sichuanensis sp. nov. and Zaitzevia fengtongzhaiensis sp. nov. from Sichuan Province, and Zaitzevia yingzuijieensis sp. nov. from Hunan Province. Habitus and diagnostic features of the new species are illustrated. In this study, 21 species of the leaf-beetle genus Aplosonyx in China are described, including three new species, Aplosonyx ancorella sp. nov., Aplosonyx nigricornis sp. nov. and Aplosonyx wudangensis sp. nov., and 1 new record, Aplosonyx duvivieri Jacoby, 1900. A highly distinctive genus of pselaphine tribe Batrisini, Feabatrus gen. nov., is described based on Leonardo Fea's historical collection housed in the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale "G. Doria" di Genova, Italy. The genus includes two new species from Myanmar, F. myanmarensis sp. nov. and F. leonardoi sp. nov. Feabatrus gen. nov. is characterized and can be separated from related genera by large-sized body with long, suberect setae on the dorsal surface and antennae, pronotum with large marginal, discal and antebasal spines, elytra with a smooth disc and shallow discal striae, inner two basal foveae close, and lacking subhumeral fovea, distinct constriction between the elytra and the abdomen, and the female possessing an asymmetric genital complex as well as a fl at, sub-trapezoidal tergite 5 (VIII) that has a small nodule in the middle of the posterior margin. A new subgenus of the genus Chrysolina Motschulsky, 1860, endemic to Yunnan Province of China, Ch. (Volosatik subgen. nov.) is described. All species inhabit highland forests. Seven species, including four species new to science, are recognized: Chrysolina fascinatrix Lopatin, 1998, Ch. liqingzhaoae Daccordi et Ge, 2011, Ch. wangi Lopatin, 2005, Ch. igori sp. nov., Ch. marinae sp. nov., Ch. genriki sp. nov., and Ch. ilyakabaki sp. nov. The representatives of this new subgenus are characterised by a small, broadly oval, convex, shining body with metallic dorsum, with maxillary palpus narrow, similar in both sexes, with pronotal lateral impressions wide and shallow or obsolete, without numerous large punctures, with elytral puncture rows paired, mostly regular, intervals flat, with tarsomeres 1–3 with entire sole, rather narrow in both sexes, with aedeagus bearing sensilla of different types ventro-laterally near apex, flagellum narrow. A new species of Scaphobaeocera Csiki, 1909 from Yunnan, China, S. setosa sp. nov., is described. It is unique in having strongly enlarged male protarsomeres with long oblique setae, forming a fan-like structure. Aim: China has dozens of well‐recognized biodiversity hotspots, but many more potential areas have not been estimated thoroughly, which is unfavourable for biodiversity conservation. Neotenic net‐winged beetles with limited dispersal ability generally occur in restricted ranges but rarely occur in China, which makes them ideal models for biogeographical studies to define biodiversity hotspots. This study will explore the potential distribution patterns of neotenic Lycidae in China to provide basic data for the implementation of biological conservation. Location: China. Methods: We conducted maximum entropy (MaxEnt) and random forest (RF) modelling to simulate the habitat suitability for neotenic Lycidae occurring in China under different climate scenarios by using all available distribution information in Southeast Asia (a total of 305 occurrence records) and several environmental variables. The dynamic changes in the potentially suitable habitats and centroids of neotenic Lycidae were simulated under all climate scenarios. Results: The results indicated that potentially suitable habitats for neotenic Lycidae were mostly located in the montane areas and mountainous islands in southern China, including the eastern Himalayas, Gaoligong Mountains, Ailao Mountains, Hengduan Mountains, Wumeng Mountains, Miaoling Mountains, Daba Mountains, Wu Mountains, Yunkai Mountains, Wuzhi Mountains and Central Mountains. In addition, the dynamic analyses showed that their changes also occurred in montane areas, whose affinity and significance were confirmed in the biological conservation. Main conclusions: Taking the unique neotenic Lycidae as the subject, we verify that several montane areas are biodiversity hotspots that have already been well‐recognized, while it is determined that some additional mountains could be potential hotspots. Therefore, more attention and biological conservation efforts should be used in these areas. In addition, using the ensemble modelling approach to identify potential distributions is a helpful tool to develop strategies for biological conservation, even if it has several limitations. The scarabaeoid beetle Mesoceratocanthus from the Early Cretaceous Yixian Formation was originally placed in the extant tribe Ivieolini (Hybosoridae). Our re-examination of the holotype and a new specimen demonstrates that Mesoceratocanthus does not possess the diagnostic characters of Ivieolini or Hybosoridae. Instead, it should be assigned to the passaloid lineage (Passalopalpidae + Passalidae) and appears closely related to the extinct family Passalopalpidae. The revised placement of Mesoceratocanthus further extends the earliest occurrence of the passaloid clade (~125 Ma, Barremian to early Aptian). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two new flightless click beetle species, Pseudocsikia choui sp. nov. and Pseudocsikia chanjuan sp. nov., are described and illustrated from Taiwan, China. Their habitus and diagnostic characters are illustrated. The two species most resemble P. formosana, which is endemic to Taiwan, by the strongly protruding pronotal anterior angles accompanied by pits and the shape of aedeagus. They can be all grouped as the P. formosana-species group. A key to the species of the P. formosana-species group and an updated checklist of Chinese Pseudocsikia with supplementary notes on type localities are provided. The genus Trisiniotus Jeannel of the pselaphine tribe Batrisini comprises two species distributed in North India and southern Myanmar. Here, a third species, T. taoismus Feng & Yin sp. nov., is described from Mao-shan, Jiangsu Province, East China. Simple Summary: The family Lucanidae Latreille, 1804, has long been considered to be one of the most archaic groups in the superfamily Scarabaeoidea and contains more than 110 genera and about 1300 extant species. Most adult lucanids display obvious sexual dimorphism as males are often larger and possess well-developed and variable mandibles used to compete with other males. For a long period of time, researchers of stag beetles have had problems and disputes, because many views are only speculation and cannot be supported by the evidence of fossil specimens. In this paper, we describe and illustrate a new fossil species from the Early Cretaceous of northeastern China: Prolucanus beipiaoensis gen. et sp. nov. Based on this well-preserved specimen, a new genus is established, representing the first record of the fossil Lucaninae in China and the oldest reliable record of the subfamily. A new stag beetle fossil is described from the Yixian Formation in northeastern China. A new genus is established based on this well-preserved specimen. Prolucanus beipiaoensis gen. et sp. nov. is firmly placed in the extant lucanid subfamily Lucaninae based on its broad prosternal process and geniculate antennae. Our discovery represents the first fossil record of Lucaninae from the Late Mesozoic of China and the oldest reliable record belonging to the subfamily. We also summarize the fossil species of stag beetles found in China and the described fossil species of the subfamily Lucaninae found in the world. The genus Cylindroeme Vives, 2019 is taxonomically revised. The type species, Cylindroeme vietnamica Vives, 2019 is redescribed and a second species from Qinghai (China), Cylindroeme shii sp. nov., is described and illustrated. Background The Stenothemus harmandi species-group has 10 species at present. They are S. harmandi (Bourgeois, 1902) (located in N. India, Nepal); S. holosericus Švihla, 2005, S. orbiculatus Švihla, 2005 and S. subnitidus Švihla, 2005 (N. India); S. distortirudis Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014, S. laticollis Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014, S. parallelus Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014 and S. septimus Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014 (China: Xizang); S. fugongensis Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014 (China: Yunnan) and S. leishanensis Y. Yang & X. Yang, 2014 (China: Guizhou). In the present study, two previously-known species are classified into this species-group, S. dentatus Wittmer, 1974 and S. alexandrae Švihla, 2004, of which the latter as a subspecies of the former is upgraded to the specific level and another two new species are discovered and described. A new genus Cistelochara gen. nov. with the following new species are described as: Cistelochara aspera sp. nov. (as a type species) from China, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand, Cistelochara dirangica sp. nov. from India, Cistelochara habaica sp. nov. from China (Yunnan) and Cistelochara maculata sp. nov. from India and Nepal. A new species of Pachypaederus Fagel, 1958, P. kongshuhensis Li, sp. nov., is described from Yunnan Province, China. This species represents the third member of the genus from the Oriental region. The genus Platycerus is a cool temperature zone taxon widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere. In East Asia, 10, one and 28 species are known in Japan, Korea and China, respectively. Recent studies of Platycerus have revealed the divergence pattern in Japan and South Korea, but that of Chinese Platycerus is unknown. We conducted a phylogenetic and biogeographical study of Platycerus in East Asia, including China, using 68, 87 and 296 sequence data of the nuclear wingless gene, internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and mitochondrial COI gene, respectively. Although the introgression of mitochondrial genes had been known in Japanese Platycerus, the essential contradiction was not recognized between the phylogenetic trees of nuclear genes and COI in Chinese Platycerus. In the COI tree, the Japanese clade and Asian continental clade diverged around 10.84 million years ago, and four major clades were recognized in the latter. For the shape of the posterolateral corner of the Platycerus pronotum, sharp (S)‐type species are distributed in higher latitudinal and lower altitudinal areas than round (R)‐type species in the Asian continent. S‐type species have evolved from R‐type species at least three times in more northerly areas, where the annual amplitude of temperature change is large. The genus Platycerus has been differentiated and speciated by a process unique to South Korea, Japan and China, according to regional topography. Thus, genetic differentiation and speciation in Platycerus are related to latitudinal and altitudinal gradients, as well as the site topographical profile and niche differentiation. The subgenus Chinapterus Berlov, 1998 of the genus Pterostichus is briefly reviewed and a new synonym is proposed: Pterostichus singularis Tschitschérine, 1889 = Pterostichus balthasari Jedlička, 1937 syn. nov. Two new species are described: Pterostichus (Chinapterus) lianhuaensis sp. nov. and Pterostichus (Chinapterus) liupanensis sp. nov. Pterostichus przewalskyi Tschitschérine, 1888 is moved from subgenus Sinoreophilus Sciaky, 1996 to Chinapterus, and lectotypes are designated for P. balthasari and P. przewalskyi. Larvae of Chalcophora japonica chinensis Schaufuss, 1879 were collected from within dead trunks in Hubei Province, China, in February 2019. These specimens created an opportunity to provide the first description of the larval stage of this subspecies; The larva is described and illustrated based on morphological characters and DNA barcoding. The monospecific clavigerite genus Archiclaviger Heller, 1936 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), previously only known from Java, is reported to occur in China. A new species, A. gaofani sp. nov., was collected in nests of Nylanderia Emery, 1906 ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Jiangsu Province, and is described here. The new species can be separated from A. overbecki Heller, 1936 by different proportions of the antennomeres, and much sparser setae at the apex of the elytra and base of the abdomen. Binhon atrum Pic, 1922, an enigmatic genus and species described in the family Dascillidae based on a single female from Vietnam, is illustrated, diagnosed and formally synonymised with Plastocerus thoracicus Fleutiaux, 1918 (Elateridae: Plastocerinae). The species is recorded from China (Guangxi, Yunnan) for the fi rst time. Background China is one of the countries with the greatest species diversity of Chilocorini (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), including nearly forty-five percent of the known genera and fourteen percent of all described species in this tribe. Recently, we discovered three species previously not recorded in China. New information In this study, three species Priscibrumus uropygialis (Mulsant, 1853), Priscibrumus disjunctus Canepari, 1997 and Brumus octosignatus (Gebler, 1830) are documented for the first time in China. Brumus octosignatus is the first member of the genus Brumus Mulsant, 1850 recorded in China. Detailed descriptions, illustrations and distributions of these three species are provided. Three cavernicolous species of the ant-loving beetle subfamily Pselaphinae are described based on the material collected in the dark zone of limestone caves in southwestern China. Batraxis liyunchuni sp. nov. and Nipponobythus alienoceps sp. nov. from Guizhou are the fi rst and third cave-dwelling species of the ir respective genus, but they do not exhibit particular troglomorphy compared to epigean congeners. Zopherobatrus lusciosus sp. nov. from Chongqing, showing typical morphological adaptation to hypogeal lifestyle, is the second known representative of this obligate cavernicolous genus. Here we describe a new species of the Neoserica vulpes species group: Neoserica christophi sp. nov. The key to species of the Neoserica vulpes species group is updated and illustrations of genitalia and habitus of the new species are given. In addition, we provide a correction of the original figure of parameres of the holotype and the description of the female of Neoserica (sensu lato) ailaoshanica Liu, Fabrizi, Bai, Yang and Ahrens, 2014 (Neoserica calva species group) which was mistakenly edited in the original publication. Here we report the earliest known fossil belid, Sinoeuglypheus daohugouensis gen. et sp. nov., from the latest Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation of north-eastern China. Extant belids are specialist herbivores feeding on gymnosperms or angiosperms, but it is likely that this new belid fed on coexisting conifers or other gymnosperms. Extant members of Belidae are predominantly distributed in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore, this new find in the north-eastern China deposit is significant for understanding the early stages of the radiation of this group during the mid-Mesozoic, and the early evolution of Curculionoidea. This paper presents a review of the genus Brachytrycherus Arrow from mainland China. Three new species are described and illustrated: B. bipunctatus Chang & Bi, sp. nov., B. denticulatus Chang & Bi, sp. nov., and B. humeralis Chang & Bi, sp. nov. Hydrotrupes chinensis Nilsson, 2003 described from the holotype collected in Anhui Province, China, is newly recorded from three localities in Guangdong Province, ca. 750 km southwest from the type locality. The species seems to inhabit hygropetric habitats exclusively, with diurnal larvae and nocturnal adults hidden under stones or in cracks in rock during the day; when disturbed, the adults readily jumped off the rock surface. The adult is redescribed. The larvae are described and illustrated for the first time, with detailed morphometric and chaetotaxic analyses of the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi. Whereas similar morphologically to the Nearctic endemic Hydrotrupes palpalis Sharp, 1882, the first instar larva of H. chinensis distinguishes by presence of six lamellae clypeales, two additional spine-like setae both on the last abdominal segment and urogomphomere 1, and the strongly developed egg bursters. Two new species of the Pselaphodes-complex of genera, Labomimus consimilis sp. nov. and Pselaphodes lianghongbini sp. nov., are described from Xizang, southwestern China. Agathidium (Cyphoceble) undulatum sp. nov. (China, Sichuan), A. (C.) lineatum sp. nov. and A. (C.) vesiculum sp. nov., from China (Yunnan) are described and compared with similar species. Types of basal part of aedeagus in Agathidium of the Old World are classified. The Chinese species of the subgenus Cyphoceble Thomson, 1859 are keyed. Braconid parasitoids reared from Malus sieversii and Malus domestica trees in NW China infested by Agrilus mali Matsumura (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) are illustrated and discussed. Six species were found parasitising Agrilus mali in NW China, namely, Atanycolus ivanowi (Kokujev) (Braconinae), Doryctes undulatus (Ratzeburg), Pareucorystes varinervis Tobias, Polystenus rugosus Foerster, Spathius sinicus Chao, and Spathius brevicaudis Ratzeburg (Doryctinae). All listed species are newly recorded parasitoids of Agrilus mali. Pareucorystes varinervis and Spathius brevicaudis are new records for the Chinese fauna, but Spathius brevicaudis has been recorded from Taiwan before. Both sexes of Spathius brevicaudis are redescribed here to allow inclusion in the recent revision of the Chinese Spathius species. New morphological, taxonomic and faunistic data of the genus Deinopteroloma Jansson, 1946 from China are provided. Two species are described and illustrated: D. songi Peng & L.-Z. Li, sp. n. Two new species of the genus Yunnanomonticola Telnov, 2002 are described based on the specimens collected in China. Platynectes (Gueorguievtes) davidorum sp. nov. is described, including all larval instars, from hygropetric habitats in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, eastern China. The new species can be easily distinguished from all other Asia Platynectes Régimbart, 1879 with dorsally strongly convex habitus, distinctly impressed double reticulation of elytra, short appendages and the shape of median lobe of aedeagus. Collected larvae were successfully associated with adults using a molecular approach and the barcode for the new species is provided as well as the phylogenetic position based on the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene; they are described and illustrated, with detailed morphometric and chaetotaxic analyses of the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi. The flea beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) inhabiting leaf litter and moss in Hong Kong are reviewed and summarized for the first time. Five species are listed from Hong Kong, four of which are newly described: Benedictus sagittalis sp. nov., Cangshanaltica sprynari sp. nov., Clavicornaltica doeberli sp. nov. and C. longipenis sp. nov. Two species of the genus Syntomium Curtis, 1828 from mainland China are described as new: S. metasternale sp. nov. (Sichuan: Erlang Shan; Emei Shan) and S. sororium sp. nov. (Sichuan: Gongga Shan). Each species is described, illustrated and all available distributional and bionomic data are given. The two species are first representatives of the genus Syntomium in mainland China. Two new species of the genus Glischrochilus Reitter, 1873, subgenus Librodor Reitter, 1884: Glischrochilus (Librodor) pilula sp. nov. (Laos) and Glischrochilus (Librodor) ruzickai sp. nov. (China: Yunnan, Sichuan; Myanmar) are described, fi gured and compared with other species of the genus. Glischrochilus egregius (Grouvelle, 1895) is formally synonymised with G. egregius cyclops Jelínek, 1975, syn. nov. and G. egregius monticola Jelínek, 1975, syn. nov. - these two forms were established based on different body colouration; however, the study of extensive material revealed that it is variable independently of its geographic origin. The identity of Ips janthinus Reitter, 1877 from Tasmania (previously included in Glischrochilus) is discussed and the species is formally synonymised with Thallis ianthina Erichson, 1842 (Erotylidae). New country records from China, India, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, or new Chinese provincial records are provided for 14 species. A world checklist of the genus Glischrochilus is appended. Eleven new species of the ant-loving beetle genus Pselaphodes Westwood, 1870 (Pselaphinae: Tyrini) are described from China: P. aduncus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. anjiensis sp. nov. (Zhejiang), P. antennarius sp. nov. (Guizhou), P. baoxingensis sp. nov. (Sichuan), P. daweishanus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. elongatus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. maolanensis sp. nov. (Guizhou), P. paraculeus sp. nov. (Guangxi, Guizhou), P. posticus sp. nov. (Jiangxi), P. prominulus sp. nov. (Jiangxi, Guangxi), and P. songxiaobini sp. nov. (Xizang). Pselaphodes spinosus Champion, 1925, originally known from northern India, is newly recorded from China (Xizang). Male habitus and major diagnostic characters of all treated species are illustrated. Sitophilus oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are major insect pests of farm-stored grains in China. Moreover, their respective distribution and prevalence are not yet assessed for grain storage facilities in China. The two species are often difficult to identify by morphology because they are immature or their presence is only evident from fragments. Species-specific primers were, therefore, designed based on the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) of 34 populations found throughout China and three foreign populations. Following the validation of this molecular-based approach for species identification, the distribution of the two species in China was determined from 68 different grain storage facilities. The results indicate that S. zeamais is prevalent throughout the country whereas S. oryzae is mainly present in the south and the center of China. It is believed that this distribution pattern is in function of ecological adaptation, mostly determined by temperature and the grain species. This is the first report of its kind, demonstrating the distribution of S. zeamais and S. oryzae in grain storage facilities throughout China and analyzed by species-specific primers of COI. The Gonioctena mauroi species-group of the subgenus Brachyphytodecta Bechyně, 1948 is proposed to include four species: G. (B.) mauroi Cho & Borowiec, 2016 (Vietnam), G. (B.) medvedevi Cho & Borowiec, 2016 (Vietnam), G. (B.) kuatunensis sp. nov. (China: Fujian), and G. (B.) longshengensis sp. nov. (China: Guangxi). They are characterized by the presence of setae on the aedeagus, which is unique within the subgenus. Two new species of the genus Anthaxia Eschscholtz, 1829 are described: A. (Haplanthaxia) phobos sp. nov. (Thailand) and A. (H.) deimos sp. nov. (China, Laos, Thailand). Anthaxia (H.) phobos species-group is defi ned and a review of all the currently defi ned species-groups in the subgenus Haplanthaxia Reitter, 1911 is provided.
