Tjelesna aktivnost ima veliki utjecaj na čovjeka u bilo kojoj životnoj dobi, a posebice u predškolskoj. U današnjem suvremenom načinu života djeca su sve manje motorički aktivna, a sve više vremena provode u virtualnom svijetu. Budući da je predškolska dob idealna za razvoj i odgoj – ne samo zdravstvenih, prehrambenih i higijenskih navika, nego i za cjeloviti razvoj u području tjelesne aktivnosti, upravo je to razdoblje povoljno za stimuliranje razvoja morfoloških karakteristika, motoričkih i funkcionalnih sposobnosti te povećanje optimalnog dosega biotičkih motoričkih znanja. Dijete se u predškolskoj dobi izražava spontanim pokretima što utječe na razvoj motoričkih i funkcionalnih sposobnosti te na cjelokupni razvoj. Plesom se u djece razvijaju sposobnosti kreativnog izražavanja i stvaralaštva, primjenom različitih pokreta i kretnji, a sve s igrom koja je jedna od osnovnih djetetovih potreba. Među svim sportovima gimnastika se smatra jednom od najsveobuhvatnijih tjelesnih aktivnosti dostupnih djeci jer sjedinjuje vježbe fleksibilnosti, brzine, ravnoteže i snage, a može se prakticirati već od treće godine. Uloga i educiranost odgojitelja ključna je kada je u pitanju provođenje ritmičkih aktivnosti. Odgojitelj je taj koji treba prilagoditi rad djetetu i njegovoj dobi. Djeci je potreban svestrani odgojitelj kojemu će interesi, potrebe i sposobnosti djece biti na prvom mjestu jer samo takav odgojitelj će motivirati, ohrabriti i poduprijeti holistički razvoj djeteta. Ritmička gimnastika je sport koji zahtjeva veliku fleksibilnost kod djece uz prateću glazbu i određene plesne pokrete. Prilikom vježbanja u ovom sportu se koriste razna pomagala, a to su: vijača, obruč, lopta, čunjevi i traka. Tijekom vježbanja i učenja ritmičke gimnastike potrebno je savladati osnovne elemente tehnike kretanja, a to su stav, hodanje, trčanje, poskoci, skokovi, zamasi i ravnoteža.U predškolskom odgoju ritmičku gimnastiku treba predstaviti kao sport koji će motivirati djecu i pomoći im u njihovom rastu i razvoju. In the early years rhythmic gymnastics should be represented as a sport that will motivate children and help them in their growth and development.
