Synthesis of the C19-truncated maltepolide E has been accomplished via a diene–ene RCM strategy without damage to the C11–C14 alkenyl epoxy unit. Upon release of the C17-OH group, it attacked at the C14 position with double bond migration and epoxide ring-opening to furnish the C19-truncated maltepolide A and B as proposed for the biosynthesis of maltepolides. Preliminary cytotoxicity data of the synthesized C19-truncated maltepolides against L929 mouse fibroblast cell line suggest irrelevance of the vinyl epoxide and importance of the conjugated dienyl keto unit for the observed anticancer activity.

The changed phenolic acids (PAs) allelochemicals exuded by the roots induced by interspecific interactions is related to intercropping alleviates soil-borne disease. However, the presence of PAs in roots and root exudations and their rhizodeposition under intercropping are still unclear. Hydroponic and soil experiments of wheat, faba bean, and wheat intercropped with faba bean were conducted, and the major compositions and contents of PAs in roots, root exudations, and rhizospheric soil were determined. The results showed that ρ-hydroxybenzoic, vanillic, and syringic acids were the major components of PAs in roots, root exudations, and rhizospheric soil in a wheat and faba bean intercropping system. The compositions and percentages of PAs in roots of faba bean were altered when faba bean intercropped with wheat. The total exudation rate of PAs in root exudations was decreased by 30%–60% under the wheat and faba bean intercropping (W//F) system as compared to mono-cropped faba bean (MF). ρ-hydroxybenzoic acid was identified in the root exudation of both MF and mono-cropped wheat (MW), but not detected in the intercropping on 60 days after transplanting. Vanillic acid was only detected in the root exudation of MF on 30 days after transplanting. The rhizodepostion of vanillic and cumaric acid were decreased at both branching and pod setting stages in W//F as compared to MF. In conclusion, interspecific interaction changed the compositions and contents of PAs in faba bean roots and root exudations. W//F constrained vanillic acid exuded by roots and decreased vanillic and coumaric acid rhizodeposition by faba bean, which provides insight into root-soil interactions in the intercropping systems.

Enzyme-polymer conjugates are complex molecules with great practical significance. This work was designed to develop a novel enzyme-polymer conjugate by covalently coupling a zwitterionic polymer with side dimethyl chains (pID) to Candida rugosa lipase (CRL) via the reaction between the anhydrides of polymer chains with the amino groups of the enzyme. The resulting two CRL-pID conjugates with different pID grafting densities were investigated in term of the catalytic activity, stability and structural changes. In comparison with native CRL, both the CRL conjugates displayed 2.2 times higher activity than the native enzyme, and showed an increase in the maximum reaction rate (Vmax) and a decrease in the Michaelis constant (Km), thus resulting in about three-fold increases in the catalytic efficiency (kcat/Km). These are mainly attributed to the activation of lipase by the hydrophobic alky side chains. Moreover, the thermostability and pH tolerance of the lipase conjugates were significantly enhanced due to the stabilizing effect of the zwitterion moieties. For instance, a five-fold increase of the enzyme half-life at 50 oC for the high-pID conjugated CRL was observed. Spectroscopic studies reveal that the pID conjugation protected the enzyme in the changes in its microenvironment and conformation, well correlating with enhanced activity and stability of lipase conjugates. The findings indicate that enzyme conjugation to the zwitterionic polymer is promising for improving enzyme performance and deserves further development.

Inhibition of protein misfolding and aggregation is a great challenge in the field of biochemical and biopharmaceutical engineering. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a protein-misfolding disease, and the interactions between 40-amino-acid-residue β-amyloid peptide (Aβ40) and its N-terminal truncated peptide Aβ11-40 demonstrate that Aβ11-40 may play an important role in the pathological process of AD. However, the effect of inhibitors on Aβ11-40 aggregation and on the cross-amyloid aggregation (co-assembly) between Aβ40 and Aβ11-40 has never been studied. Herein, coaggregation and seeding interactions between Aβ40 and Aβ11-40 as well as the effect of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a small molecule inhibitor, on the cross-amyloid aggregation have been investigated by extensive analyses. It is found that Aβ11-40 participates in the aggregation of Aβ40 and leads to the formation of coaggregates that contain less β-sheet structures than pure Aβ40 aggregates. The aggregation kinetics along with morphologies and secondary structures of the coaggregates are also significantly affected by the Aβ40/Aβ11-40 ratio. EGCG accelerates the nucleation of Aβ40 but retards that of Aβ11-40 by affecting their elongation and secondary nucleation processes in solution and on solid surfaces. Meanwhile, EGCG makes the conformations of the seeding-induced Aβ aggregates more compact, especially for the homologous seedings. Isothermal titration calorimetry measurement indicates that hydrophobic interactions mainly contribute to the inhibition of the two Aβ isoforms by EGCG. The findings of this research have provided new insights into Aβ aggregation and the effect of an important inhibitor and the results would benefit in the development of potent inhibitors against co-assembly of different amyloid proteins.

Solar energy is the source of energy required for the dry methane reforming (DMR). In the high temperature field induced by concentrated solar energy, the spatial distribution of radiation intensity has a significant impact on the solar thermochemical performance. Based on principle of minimum Gibbs free energy (Gmin), the idea of regulating radiation field to match solar thermochemical energy conversion on-demand is proposed. To improve solar thermochemical conversion efficiency, biomimetic hierarchical porous structure is introduced as solar thermochemical reactor, which can optimize both the radiation field and temperature field. The analysis model of solar driven DRM is established, combined with user-defined functions (UDFs). The effects of pore diameter combinations along the direction of L and R on the reforming properties are studied. The results show that by designing biomimetic hierarchical porous structure, the temperature of solar thermochemical reactor can approach the thermodynamic temperature (1050 K), and finally the methane conversion is improved by up to 7%.

Mechanochemical treatment (MTC) with SiC as an additive possessed a good performance on the degradation of hexachlorobenzene (HCB). However, this method consumed the additive of SiC and generated a toxic product of CCl4. This work attempted to add another additive, iron powder, to the MCT and explored the performance of the combined additive of SiC + Fe to solve this problem. Result indicated that CCl4 was not produced and SiC was not consumed when Fe was added in proper proportion. Compared with the single additive of SiC, the addition of Fe can further accelerate the degradation of HCB. The reaction pathway was proposed as: HCB can be mostly dechlorinated after a duration of MCT, and only trace-level low chlorobenzenes were generated under the effect of the combined additive. The left benzene skeletons can be broken to produce graphite and amorphous carbon. The shedding Cl radicals preferentially reacted with Fe to form FeCl3, and the reaction between Cl radicals and SiC and its toxic products can be avoided. Free electrons generated from the additive of SiC, fast reaction between Cl and Fe, and sparks in the MCT were considered the potential factors to accelerate the HCB degradation in MCT.

In the chemical-biological synthesis route of gabapentin, immobilized Escherichia coli cells harboring nitrilase are used to catalyze the biotransformation of intermediate 1-cyanocyclohexaneacetonitile to 1-cyanocyclohexaneacetic acid. Herein, we present a novel cell immobilization method, which is based on cell adsorption using 75 g/L Escherichia coli cells and 6 g/L zeolite, cell crosslinking using 3 g/L polyethylenemine and biomimetic silicification using 18 g/L hydrolyzed tetramethylorthosilicate. The constructed “hybrid biomimetic silica particles (HBSPs)” with core-shell structure showed a specific activity of 147.2 ± 2.3 U/g, 82.6 ± 2.8% recovery of nitrilase activity and a half-life of 19.1 ± 1.9 h at 55 °C. 1-Cyanocyclohexaneacetonitrile (1.0 M) could be completely hydrolyzed by 50 g/L of HBSPs at pH 7.5, 35 °C in 4 h, providing 92.1 ± 3.2% yield of 1-cyanocyclohexaneacetic acid. In batch reactions, the HBSPs could be reused for 13 cycles and maintained 79.9 ± 4.1% residual activity after the 10th batch, providing an average product yield of 92.6% in the first 10 batches with a productivity of 619.3 g/L/day. In addition, multi-layer structures consisting of silica coating and polyethylenemine/glutaraldehyde crosslinking were constructed to enhance the mechanical strength of immobilized cells, and the effects of coating layers on the catalytic properties of immobilized cells was discussed.

We herein report an I2/CuCl2-copromoted diamination of C(sp3)-H bonds for the preparation of 2-acyl-4-aminoquinazolines from methyl ketones, 2-aminobenzonitriles, and ammonium acetate. This reaction features operational simplicity, commercially available substrates, mild reaction conditions, and good functional group compatibility. Mechanistic studies indicate that CuCl2 plays a pivotal role in this transformation. This study uses a methyl group as a novel input to construct 2-acyl-4-aminoquinazoline derivatives for the first time.

Cancer stemness represents a major source of development and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). c-Met critically contributes to CRC stemness, but how c-Met is activated in CRC remains elusive. We previously identified the lipolytic factor ABHD5 as an important tumour suppressor gene in CRC. Here, we show that loss of ABHD5 promotes c-Met activation to sustain CRC stemness in a non-canonical manner. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that ABHD5 interacts in the cytoplasm with the core subunit of the SET1A methyltransferase complex, DPY30, thereby inhibiting the nuclear translocation of DPY30 and activity of SET1A. In the absence of ABHD5, DPY30 translocates to the nucleus and supports SET1A-mediated methylation of YAP and histone H3, which sequesters YAP in the nucleus and increases chromatin accessibility to synergistically promote YAP-induced transcription of c-Met, thus promoting the stemness of CRC cells. This study reveals a novel role of ABHD5 in regulating histone/non-histone methylation and CRC stemness., This study reveals an unrecognized role of ABHD5 in regulating colon cancer stemness via controlling YAP methylation and nuclear localization, further explaining the molecular mechanism through which ABHD5 functions as a tumour suppressor gene in colon cancer.

We herein report an iodine-mediated formal [2 + 2 + 1] cyclization of methyl ketones, p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazines, and 1-aminopyridinium iodide for preparation of 4-aryl-NH-1,2,3-triazoles under metal- and azide-free conditions. Notably, this is achieved using p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazines and 1-aminopyridinium iodide as azide surrogates, providing a novel route toNH-1,2,3-triazoles. Furthermore, this approach provides rapid and practical access to potent inhibitors of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO).

In order to identify the optimum period of spring water-restrictive irrigation for winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the Haihe Plain, China and elucidate its effects on flag leaf senescence and yield formation, field experiments were conducted at the Xinji Experimental Station of Hebei Agricultural University from 2016 to 2019 by using different irrigation regimes in spring, including the conventional regime involving two irrigation periods (control (CK), the 3-leaf unfolding stage and the anthesis stage) and a series of single, restrictive irrigation regimes (SRI) comprising irrigation at the 3-leaf unfolding stage (3LI), 4LI, 5LI, and 6LI. There are five major findings: (1) The senescence (determined by the green leaf area, GLA) in the 4LI treatment occurred moderately earlier than that in CK, showed no significant difference with that in 5LI and 6LI, and occurred significantly later than that in 3LI. (2) Compared with other SRI treatments, the GLA value and photosynthetic rate in 4LI were 14.82 and 20.1% higher, respectively. Microstructural analysis of flag leaf also revealed that the mesophyll cells and chloroplasts were irregularly arranged under drought stress in 3LI and 6LI; however, drought stress had minimal negative effects on the microstructure in 4LI and 5LI. (3) Postponed irrigation in spring could significantly increase superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities in the early stage of grain filling; however, these activities would subsequently decrease. Among the four SRI treatments, the overall enzyme activities were the highest in 4LI, and the combined malondialdehyde (MDA) content in flag leaves in 4LI and 5LI was 14.5% lower on average than that in 3LI and 6LI. (4) The soluble sugar (SS) and proline (Pro) contents in 4LI were the highest among the four SRI treatments; however, they were lower than those in CK. The abscisic acid (ABA) hormone content in 4LI and 5LI was lower than that in 3LI and 6LI, respectively, suggesting a smaller drought stress effect in 4LI and 5LI. (5) In two growing seasons, there was a larger number of spikes per unit area in 4LI (i.e., 13.4% higher than that in 5LI and 6LI) and the 1 000-grain weight in 4LI was the highest among the four SRI treatments (i.e., 6.0% higher than that in the other three SRI treatments). Therefore, a single restrictive irrigation regime at the 4-leaf unfolding stage is recommended to be effective in slowing down the senescence process of flag leaves and achieving high yield.

Pneumocandin B0, the precursor of the antifungal drug caspofungin, is a lipohexapeptide produced by the fungus Glarea lozoyensis. Oxidative stress and the resulting production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are known to be involved in the regulation of pneumocandin B0 biosynthesis. In this study, the Glyap1 gene of Glarea lozoyensis, a homologue of the yeast redox regulator YAP1, was knocked out. The intracellular ROS levels of the resulting ΔGlyap1 strain were higher than in the wild-type strain, which was caused by the downregulated expression of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). Compared with the wild-type strain, ΔGlyap1 exhibited an oxidative phenotype throughout its life cycle, which resulted in significantly higher pneumocandin B0 production per unit biomass. In addition, ΔGlyap1 showed growth inhibition and decreased pneumocandin B0 production in the presence of CCl4, which leads to strong oxidative stress. To overcome the strain’s sensitivity, a three-stage antioxidant addition strategy was developed. This approach significantly improved the growth of ΔGlyap1 while maintaining a high pneumocandin B0 production per unit biomass, which reached 38.78 mg/g DCW. Notably, this result represents a 50% increase over the wild-type strain. These findings provide new insights into the regulatory mechanisms that control pneumocandin B0 production under oxidative stress, which may be applied to improve the production of other secondary metabolites. • Glyap1 is involved in expression of redox and pneumocandin B0 synthesis-related genes. • Addition of a three-stage antioxidant alleviated the sensitivity of ΔGlyap1 strain. • The yield of pneumocandin B0 per unit biomass of ΔGlyap1 strain was 38.78 mg/g DCW.

A novel iodine promoted cyclization of enaminone with aryl methyl ketones has been developed as a straightforward method for constructing 2-hydroxy-pyrrol-3(2H)-ones. This strategy affords structurally diverse 2-hydroxy-pyrrol-3(2H)-ones rings in high yields. Moreover, a quarternary alcohol has been constructed efficiently in the reaction. Product purification required only washing with CH2Cl2 solvent, thereby avoiding traditional chromatography and recrystallization, making this an example of group-assisted purification chemistry.

A novel [2 + 1 + 3] cyclization reaction for the synthesis of 2-aryl-4-quinolinecarboxylates from aryl methyl ketones, arylamines, and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds has been established. This metal-free process achieved the C-C bond cleavage of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds directly as a single-carbon synthon. The reaction is highly efficient and has good substrate compatibility while operating under mild conditions. This method has good practicability and successfully realized the synthesis of bioactive molecules.

A novel I2-mediated Povarov reaction of arylacetylenes and anilines for the synthesis of 2,4-substituted quinolines has been developed, in which arylacetylene first acts as both a diene precursor and dienophile. This work further develops the Povarov reaction to expand the types of diene precursors. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that the I2/DMSO system realized the oxidative carbonylation of C(sp)-H of arylacetylene and then undergoes a [4 + 2] cycloaddition reaction.

BACKGROUND Exposure to a maternal high-fat diet (HFD) predisposes offspring to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to explore whether milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) supplementation during suckling exerts a long-term protective effect on hepatic lipid metabolism in adult offspring exposed to maternal HFD. METHODS We fed 5-week-old female C57BL/6J mice either a HFD (60% kcal fat) or control diet (CD; 16.7% kcal fat) for 3 weeks before mating, as well as throughout gestation and lactation. After delivery, male offspring from HFD dams were supplemented with 1 g/(kg body weight·day) MFGM (HFD + MFGM group) or the same volume of vehicle (HFD group) during suckling. Male offspring from CD dams were also supplemented with vehicle during suckling (CD group). All offspring were weaned onto CD for 8 weeks. Histopathology, metabolic parameters, lipogenic level, oxidative stress, and mitochondria function in the liver were analyzed. A 1-way ANOVA and a Kruskal-Wallis test were used for multi-group comparisons. RESULTS As compared to the CD group, the HFD group had more lipid droplets in livers, and exhibited ∼100% higher serum triglycerides, ∼38% higher hepatic triglycerides, ∼75% higher serum aspartate aminotransferase, and ∼130% higher fasting blood glucose (P

Purpose: To investigate the effect of thiamine triethylorthoformate conjugate (TTO) on Parkinson disease (PD) in vitro and in vivo in a mice model. Methods: The effect of TTO on behavioural changes in PD mouse model was studied using pole, traction and swimming tests. Astrocyte proliferation after TTO treatment was assessed using 3 (4, 5 dimethyl 2 thi¬azolyl) 2, 5 diphenyl 2 H tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Apoptosis was determined with flow cytometry using Annexin V Fluorescein isothiocyanate kit. Results: Treatment of PD mice with TTO led to a decrease in climbing time, increase in suspension score and enhancement of swimming score, when compared to the untreated group (p < 0.05). Treatment of astrocytes with TTO prior to MPP incubation significantly increased proliferation (p < 0.05). Apoptosis induction in astrocytes by MPP was attenuated by pre-treatment with TTO. Pre-treatment of astrocytes with 10 µM TTO markedly reduced JNK activation, when compared to astrocytes incubated with MPP alone (p < 0.05). Up-regulation of Bax and down-regulation of Bcl 2 by MPP in astrocytes were attenuated by pre-treatment with TTO. MPP-induced up-regulation of cleaved caspase 3 was suppressed in astrocytes by TTO pre-treatment (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Treatment with TTO prevents MPP+ -induced neuronal damage in vitro in astrocytes and in vivo in mice. The neuro-protective effect of TTO involves down-regulation of JNK activation, inhibition of caspase-3 level, decrease in Bax and increase in Bcl-2 expression. Thus, TTO has a potential for use in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Due the energy resource comes from solar energy, resulting in a high working temperature, radiation field has a significant influence on the energy storage efficiency of the high temperature solar thermochemistry. In order to promote the solar energy conversion efficiency of solar driven steam methane reforming (SMR), the idea of regulate the radiation field to be in accordance with the energy conversion on-demand is proposed and the biomimetic leaf-type hierarchical porous structure solar thermochemical reactor is introduced, which can regulate the spatial distribution of solar radiation intensity and optimize the temperature field. Combined with thermochemical kinetics and Finite Volume Method (FVM), the numerical calculation model of the SMR reaction in a biomimetic solar thermochemical reactor is established to optimize the temperature field. The effects of different reaction conditions and reactor parameters on steam methane reforming hydrogen production are analyzed. The results show that methane conversion in the biomimetic leaf-type solar thermochemical reactor is increased by 4.5%.

To improve the stability and sensitivity of pH sensors based on AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs), we proposed a modified sensing structure by integrating a reference HEMT device. This structural pH sensor exhibits a typical Nernstian behavior with a sensitivity of 54.38 mV/pH, which is higher than the value of 49.43mV/pH derived from the AlGaN/GaN HEMT-based sensor without integrating the reference HEMTs device. Furthermore, the stability of the new structural sensor is enhanced by approximately 19.2% in comparison with that of its traditional counterpart. The improved performances are analyzed using an electrical double-layer model together with an equivalent circuit model, and we find that the new sensor structure has a larger capacitor and exhibits a better rectification effect, hence decreasing the electrical noise and enhancing the stability of the testing signal. Meanwhile, the new sensor structure displays a smaller equivalent resistance and results in a larger available output current, hence exhibiting a higher sensitivity.

With the aid of the amphiphilicity and self-assembly ability of surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), we demonstrate an effective method to increase the interlayer spacing of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets, which is beneficial to improve the performance of composites. Electrochemical tests show that Ti3C2Tx/polyaniline, treated by the co-intercalation of CTAB, exhibits higher redox activity and reversibility. A specific capacitance of 336 F·g−1 for as-prepared Ti3C2Tx/polyaniline composite is achieved at a current density of 0.5 A·g−1, 1.43 times greater than that of common Ti3C2Tx/polyaniline composite (236 F·g−1). Most importantly, a specific capacitance of 135 F·g−1 is retained when the current density increases to 16 A·g−1, much higher than 57 F·g−1 for the common composite. The superior charging/discharging capability is attributed to highly active and reversible polyaniline on Ti3C2Tx as well as the enlarged interlayer spacing, which will provide enough channel for the quick diffusion and migration of electrolyte ions.

In the current study, via applying a hybrid-ligand method, a novel Cu(II)-based coordination polymer, formulated as [Cu2(OH)(bib)(bpt)]·H2O (1) (H3bpt = biphenyl-3,4′,5-tricarboxylic acid, bib = 1,4-bis(1-imidazolyl)benzene), has been successfully obtained by a isothermal method. Its treatment effect against postpartum hemorrhage was assessed in the bio-study. Firstly, through the model establishment and compound treatment, the prothrombin activity in the plasma was assessed by measuring the prothrombin time. Next, the levels of the factor XI and IX were also assessed by ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay detection kit). In addition to this, the prevention activity of the compound on the disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) during postpartum hemorrhage was also evaluated by measuring the inflammatory response of the inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β (interleukin-1β) and TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α). The inflammatory signaling relative expression was assessed via the real time RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) as well. Above all, we can see that the compound has excellent treatment activity on DIC disease by inhibiting p53 and nf-κb relative expression in the endothelial cells.

An unprecedented I2/FeCl3-promoted cascade reaction of aryl methyl ketones with 8-aminoquinolines for the convenient synthesis of (E)-3-(2-acyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-4-yl)acrylaldehydes was developed by merging annulation with ring deconstruction. This novel strategy unlocked the new reactivity of 8-aminoquinolines and provided an attractive platform for the ring opening of unactivated N-heteroaromatic compounds. Preliminary mechanistic investigation suggested that dual C(sp3)-H amination/C-N bond cleavage were key reaction steps. Furthermore, late-stage modification of the obtained products successfully delivered pyrazole and isoxazole derivatives, increasing the practicability and application potential of this methodology in organic synthesis.

Understanding the complex interplay among gasotransmitters is of great significance but remains technically challenging. In this study, we present the design and synthesis of a dually responsive BOD-NH-SC reporter for probing the dynamic and alternating existence of NO and H2 S in living cells. This designed reporter can repeatedly cycle S-nitrosation and transnitrosation reactions when successively treated with NO and H2 S, thus affording the interchange of NIR fluorescence at 645 nm (NO) and NIR II fluorescence at 936 nm (H2 S). In light of this unique fluorescence alternation between two colors, we synthesized water-soluble BOD-NH-SC dots to visualize the intracellular dynamics of NO and H2 S. These molecular probes thus provide a toolbox to elucidate the interplaying roles of NO and H2 S in the complex interaction networks of various signal transduction pathways.

This work presents a novel process to manufacture advanced Germanium-On-Insulator with integrated Silicon Nitride (GOIN) stripes as light waveguide for Ge photonic devices. Through the integration of GOIN stripes, larger tensile strain could be imposed to the bonded Ge layer which may could be used to tailor the bandgap of Ge material for short wave length infrared application. The successful fabrication of advanced GOIN substrate makes the opportunity for monolithic integration of high-performance Ge-based high mobility transistors with photonic components where silicon nitride is the waveguide with low optical loss.

In the synthesis of hypoglycemic agent miglitol, the quantitative analysis of two key intermediates, N-2-hydroxyethyl glucamine and 6-(N-hydroxyethyl)-amino-6-deoxy-alpha-L-sorbofuranose, has long been a challenge. In this study, derivatization reagents were screened, and then a novel HPLC method coupled with 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate derivatization was developed for the quantitative analysis of the two miglitol intermediates. The derivatization was performed by reacting Fmoc-Cl and the intermediates at a molar ratio of 16:1 and sodium borate at a final concentration of 0.2 mol/L at pH 8.0, 35 °C for 40 min, followed by the addition of 1.5 times the volume of acetic acid (0.1%, w/v). The analysis was achieved on Hypersil ODS2 (4.6 mm × 250 mm) column applying an isocratic mobile phase containing acetonitrile and 0.1% acetic acid aqueous solution (45:55, v/v) at 0.8 mL/min flow rate and an injection volume of 10 μL. The analyte was detected at 254 nm. The method showed good linearity, precision, and accuracy. It was capable of detecting both intermediates at low concentrations. Interestingly, we found that a small amount (> 5%) of N-2-hydroxyethyl glucamine was not converted to 6-(N-hydroxyethyl)-amino-6-deoxy-alpha-L-sorbofuranose in the biotransformation. This method was reliable and efficient for the analysis of miglitol intermediates.

Due to the high working temperature and solar energy is the sole energy resource, radiative transfer field has a significant influence on the solar driven methane reforming conversion efficiency. In order to improve the conversion efficiency of solar driven methane reforming, the idea of using biomimetic venous hierarchical porous structure as solar thermochemical reactor is proposed to regulate the radiative transfer field, which in turn can optimize the temperature field. Through a Finite Volume Method (FVM) combined with thermochemical kinetics, a numerical analysis model of solar driven dry methane reforming (DMR) is established. The effects of different pore diameter combinations (d1, d2, and d3) and partition positions (L1 and R1) on the thermochemical performance of reforming are analyzed. The results show that by introducing a biomimetic venous hierarchical porous structure, the methane conversion can be improved by up to 5.9%, which can provide guidance for the optimal design of the solar thermochemical reactor.

Exploring an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is vitally necessary for sustainable energy conversion and storage systems. Herein, we fabricated CoS2 nanosheets through a one-step hydrothermal reaction and investigated their electrocatalytic performance towards the HER in acidic and alkaline electrolytes. With sodium ethyl xanthate (SEXT) and cobalt acetate tetrahydrate as S and Co sources, the CoS2 nanosheets were hydrothermally prepared under 200 °C for 10 hours. The CoS2-2 nanosheets synthesized from a 7.5 atomic proportion of S to Co exhibited a remarkable electrocatalytic activity towards the HER with an overpotential of ∼145 mV in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution and 288.5 mV in 1 M KOH solution at 10 mA cm−2, respectively. And after 2000 cycles, their current density remained almost constant. FESEM, TEM, AFM, and XRD showed that CoS2-2 nanosheets possessed a good crystallinity and small size, facilitating sufficient exposure of electrocatalytically active sites. In situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy (ECAFM) demonstrated that after the HER, the morphology of individual CoS2-2 nanosheets had no obvious change in acidic solutions and transformed significantly in alkaline media, while their height, width and area distinctly increased in both acidic and alkaline media. Nevertheless, the overall morphology of CoS2-2 cuboids (aggregates) as-observed by FESEM hardly changed during the HER, confirming their excellent HER stability. The different change for atomic proportion and binding energy of Co3+ and Co2+ indicated that the electrocatalytic mechanism of CoS2-2 towards the HER in acidic electrolytes was different from that in alkaline media.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is an enlargement with abdominal aorta, identified as the life-threatening complication, particularly with men at the age over 60. Circulating biomarkers are playing a role to diagnose AAA and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) was identified as the suitable biomarker for diagnosing conditions with AAA. Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) is the standard technique to detect the target, further, a suitable surface modification on the polystyrene (PS) ELISA surface leads lowering the detection limit. Herein, a potential bimolecular immobilization strategy was introduced by complexing silane-antibody or silane-gold-antibody for the efficient determination of MMP-9 detection. Further, sandwich pattern was followed to determine MMP-9 by poly- and mono-clonal antibodies and compared. Detection limit was found as 1 pM, which is much lower than conventional ELISA (1.5 nM) and 10 pM on silane-modified PS surface. Moreover, MMP-9 was also detected in human serum at 1:35 dilution, helps to quantify the level of MMP-9 for diagnosing AAA and its associated condition.

Quinazoline skeletons are synthesized by amino acid catabolism/reconstruction combined with the insertion/cyclization of dimethyl sulfoxide for the first time. The amino acid acts as a carbon and nitrogen source through HI-mediated catabolism and is then reconstructed using aromatic amines and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a one-carbon synthon. This protocol is of great significance for the further study of the conversion of amino acids.

This study synthesized the water-permeable and hydrophobic property of water-based polyurethane (WPU) and applied it to nylon fiber-based functional textiles. Specifically, poly-stearyl acrylate (PSA) homopolymers with different molecular weights were used as end-capping agents in the WPU to form water-based polyurethane with acrylate terminal (WPUA). In the WPUA process, dimethylacetamide was adopted as a neutralizing agent to form a stable WPUA emulsion. The effects of the design parameters, such as the hydrophilic ionic group dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), the PSA molecular weight and content, were set as the control factors and are analyzed by the Taguchi method and gray relational analysis (GRA). The water-repellent characteristic, water vapor permeability (WVP) and fabric flexural rigidity were considered as performance parameters as multi-qualities. The Taguchi method was based on the analysis of variance and implemented orthogonal arrays for experimental design. Each performance parameter was optimized independently. Then, the performance parameters were optimized together with GRA. According to the experimental results, the most important factor for the water-repellent characteristic, WVP and fabric flexural rigidity is the DMPA content, followed by the PSA molecular weight and content. The corresponding results showed that in the optimal parameter combination, the content of DMPA was 30.8 phm (parts per hundred monomer by weight), the PSA molecular weight was 3000 g/mol and the PSA content was 4 phm. After WPUA padding, the water contact angle of the water-repellent nylon was 135.3°, the WVP was 2271.7 g/m2/day and the flexural rigidity was 2.7 cm.

Seven new metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), namely, [Zn2(L 1)(H2O)3] n (1), [Zn2(L 1)(dib)(H2O)2] n (2), {[Zn2(L 1)(4,4′-bipy)(H2O)2]·H2O} n (3), [Cd2(L 1)(1,10-phen)] n (4), [Ni2(HL 1)(4,4′-bipy)(μ3-OH)(μ2-H2O)] n (5), {[Co4(L 1)(4,4′-bibp)3]·(4,4′-bibp)3} n (6), and [Co2(L 2)(4,4′-bibp)2(H2O)] n (7), where H4 L 1 and H4 L 2 are semi-rigid 3-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)phthalic acid and 4-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)phthalic acid, respectively, and 4,4′-bipy is 4,4′-bipyridine, dib is 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene, 1,10-phen is 1,10-phenanthroline and 4,4′-bipb is 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)benzene, have been prepared under solvothermal conditions with ZnII, CdII, CoII and NiII ions in the presence of auxiliary N-donor ligands. The crystal structures and photoluminescence and magnetic properties of these compounds have been investigated. Compound 1 displays a 3,4,6-connected two-dimensional (2D) topology with a Schläfli symbol of (42.5)2(43.52.7)(45.56.63)2, and the 2D structure was further assembled to form a three-dimensional (3D) framework by intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds. Compound 2 features a novel 3,3,4-connected structure and the point symbol is (4.102)(4.6.84)(62.8). Compound 3 exhibits a 3,4,6-connected 3-nodal net having a 3,4,6 T53 type topology, with the point symbol (4.62)2(42.64)2(42.68.82.103). Compound 4 shows a 2D→3D supramolecular structure formed by π–π stacking interactions. Compound 5 possesses a 3D framework with a tfz-d net topology. Compounds 6 and 7 are constructed from the same auxiliary ligand and metal salt at the same temperature, but with different main ligands and exhibiting different topologies. Compound 6 presents a 3D 4,6-connected topological network with a Schläfli symbol of (3.44.6)(32.44.56.63), while compound 7 has a 3D topological network with a Schläfli symbol of (412.616). Magnetic analyses indicate that compounds 5 and 7 show weak antiferromagnetic interactions.

Background Cellulose as a potential feed resource hinders its utilization because of its complex structure, and cellulase is the key to its biological effective utilization. Animal endogenous probiotics are more susceptible to colonization in the intestinal tract, and their digestive enzymes are more conducive to the digestion and absorption of feed in young animals. Min pigs are potential sources of cellulase probiotics because of the high proportion of dietary fiber in their feed. In this study, the cellulolytic bacteria in the feces of Min pigs were isolated and screened. The characteristics of enzymes and cellulase production were studied, which provided a theoretical basis for the rational utilization of cellulase and high-fiber food in animal production. Results In our study, 10 strains of cellulase producing strains were isolated from Min pig manure, among which the M2 strain had the best enzyme producing ability and was identified as Bacillus velezensis. The optimum production conditions of cellulase from strain M2 were: 2% inoculum, the temperature of 35°C, the pH of 5.0, and the liquid loading volume of 50 mL. The optimum temperature, pH and time for the reaction of cellulase produced by strain M2 were 55°C, 4.5 and 5 min, respectively. Conclusions Min pigs can be used as a source of cellulase producing strains. The M2 strain isolated from feces was identified as Bacillus velezensis. An alkaliphilic actinobacterial strain, designated Hz 6-5T, was isolated from saline-alkaline soil from Songnen Plain in north-eastern China. The isolate formed light yellow-colored colonies and its cells were Gram-staining positive, non-motile, and non-spore-forming short rods. The strain was aerobic with optimal growth at 33 °C, pH 9.0, and in the presence of 0.5% (w/v) NaCl or 3% (w/v) KCl. It was catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. The isolate had highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to the type strains of the species Nesternkonia natronophila M8T (98.2%), N. salmonea GY074T (98.1%), and N. sphaerica GY239T (97.4%), and the isolate formed a subclade with the type strains of these species in the neighbor-joining tree based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences. The phylogenetic tree based on the phylogenomic analysis also showed the same results. The DNA‒DNA relatedness (DDH) values of isolate Hz 6-5T with N. natronophila M8T, N. halophila DSM 16378T, and N. halobia CGMCC 1.2323T were 21.2%, 36.5%, and 32.0%, respectively. The characteristic diamino acid of strain Hz 6-5T was found to be lysine. The respiratory quinones were MK-9, MK-8, MK-7(H4), MK-7(H2) and MK-7 and the major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) were anteiso-C15:0, anteiso-C17:0 and iso-C16:0. The polar lipids detected for strain Hz 6-5T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, an unidentified glycolipid, and two unidentified phospholipids. The DNA G + C content of isolate Hz 6-5T was 60.8%. Based on the results of phylogenetic analysis supported by morphological, physiological, chemotaxonomic, and other differentiating phenotypic evidence, strain Hz 6-5T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Nesterenkonia, for which the name Nesterenkonia haasae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Hz 6-5T (=CPCC 205100T=NBRC 113521T).

Using diethylene glycol as a solvent and manganese salts as doping sources, respectively, manganese doping and morphology control of olivine LiFePO4 as a cathode for Li-ion battery were simultaneously achieved by a facile solvothermal approach to alleviate the sluggish Li-ion diffusion kinetics. By the contrast to pure LiFePO4 nanoplates, the preferential growth of Mn-doped LiFePO4 particles was unchanged during the solvothermal synthesis procedure, and the plate morphology with a thickness of about 40 nm and a lateral size of 120–200 nm was kept, which was verified by XRD, SEM, and XPS characterizations. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the cell volume of as-synthesized LiFePO4 nanoplates with a reduced size along b-axial gradually was enlarged as the doping level of manganese increased. When assembled to a coin cell, electrochemical tests showed that Mn-doped LiFePO4 nanoplates delivered an excellent capacity of 165 mAh/g at a rate of 0.1 C, by comparison with pure LiFePO4 nanoplates with a capacity of 147 mAh/g1. Even at a high charging/discharging rate of 10 C, a capacity of 139 mAh/g was maintained. Additionally, Mn-doped LiFePO4 nanoplates also manifested a satisfactory cyclability with a capacity retention of 98.2% after 100 cycles at a rate of 10 C. The higher capacity, excellent rate capability, and cyclability of LiFePO4 were explained by the improved Li-ion intercalation/extraction kinetics and diffusion rate, as evidenced by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, which was attributed to Mn doping and morphology tuning of LiFePO4.

Various medicinal ingredients with different tastes are combined according to the theory of compatibility in Chinese materia medica to achieve a better efficacy, while the mechanism was not very clear. Here, the authors studied the interaction between ingredients and human transporters such as the kidney transporters OAT1 and OAT3, the liver transporters OATP1B1 and OATP1B3, and the intestine transporter OATP2B1 to discern the compatibility mechanism of ingredients with different tastes in the Yuanhuzhitong preparation (YHP) comprising Corydalis yanhusuo (CYH) and Angelica dahurica (AD), which could relieve pain by restraining the central system. The results show that tetrahydropalmatine (TDE), the major component of CYH, could be transported by OAT3 into kidney, OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 into liver, while imperatorin (IPT) and isoimperatorin (ISP), the two key components of AD, and AD extract showed strong inhibition to OAT1 and OAT3. What's more, AD extract also exerted strongly inhibition to human transporters OATP1B1 and OATP1B3. It was also detected that IPT, ISP, and AD extract significantly downregulated the expression of Oatp1a1, Oatp1a4, and Oatp1b2 of liver in mice. The in vivo results show that the concentration of TDE in liver and kidney significantly decreased, while the TDE concentration in blood and brain were both significantly enhanced in the presence of IPT, ISP, and AD extract. These results suggest that the ingredients in AD with pungent taste could enhance the exposure of TDE in blood and brain by inhibiting the uptake of TDE in liver and kidney. That is to say, TDE with bitter taste could “flood up” into the central nervous system to play its therapeutic effect by the cut-off of that into liver and kidney in the presence of ingredients within AD. This paper not only proves the meridian distribution of CYH in liver and kidney with the role of OAT3, OATP1B1, and OATP1B3, but also illustrates how to improve the efficacy of CYH by reasonable compatibility with AD. This study synthesized water-based polyurethane with acrylate terminal group (WPUA) using the long carbon chain of stearyl acrylate to synthesize hydrophobic poly-stearyl acrylate (PSA). The proposed process could minimize environmental pollution caused by fluorine-containing monomers. As a water-based polyurethane (WPU) end-capping agent, the hydrophobic PSA and the hydrophilic and water vapor permeable WPU are copolymerized to form a WPUA functional resin with simultaneous water vapor permeability (WVP) and water repellency. Here, 2-mercaptoethanol was used to control the molecular weight of PSA to prepare the acrylate end-capping agent. PSA was then employed in WPU to form WPUA, which is characterized by the moisture permeability of WPU and water repellency of acrylic resin simultaneously. During the WPUA process, dimethylacetamide was used as a neutralizer to replace the traditional toxic chemical control drug triethylamine. This study set up the material and chemical structure to replace the toxic chemical-controlled drugs and organofluoride in the traditional preparation of moisture permeable and water repellent materials. The proposed process was proven to reduce the consumption of organic solvent, achieve WPUA copolymer stability, and provided moisture permeable and water repellent functions. In addition, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to determine the structure of WPUA, while thermogravimetry analysis and differential scanning calorimetry were performed to establish the thermal properties of WPUA. After the WPUA was padded on nylon fabric, its water drop contact angle was observed through a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the contact angle of nylon fabric increased significantly, water repellency was reached, and WVP rises by 23.75%.

A novel Bacillus strain, designated SYSU G01002T, was isolated from a sediment sample collected from tepid spring in Tengchong, Yunnan province, south-west PR China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the strain SYSU G01002T shared the highest sequence identity with the type strain of Bacillus alkalitolerans (97.7%). Strain SYSU G01002T grew at pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0), at 28–55 °C (optimum, 45 °C) and in the presence of 0–2.5% (w/v) NaCl (optimum in the absence of NaCl). It contained meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid as the cell-wall diamino acid and MK-7 as isoprenoid quinone. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15:0, iso-C17:0 and C16:0. The polar were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and unidentified phospholipid. The genomic DNA G + C content was 38.0 mol %. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between SYSU G01002T and closely related members of the genus Bacillus were below the cut-off level recommended for interspecies identity. Based on the above results, strain SYSU G01002T represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus, for which the name Bacillus tepidiphilus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain, SYSU G01002T (= KCTC 43131T = CGMCC 1.17491T).

A Gram stain-positive, rod-shaped and motile bacterium, designated SYSU G01003T was isolated from a sediment sample collected from tepid spring in Tengchong, Yunnan province, southwestern China. Growth observed at temperature ranging 28–37 °C (optimum 37 °C) and pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum pH 7.0). Tolerance to NaCl was up to 2.5% (w/v) (optimal in the absence of NaCl). The cell wall peptidoglycan is meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid and MK-7 as the only respiratory quinone. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified aminophospholipid, phospholipid, and polar lipid. The major fatty acids are C16:0, anteiso-C15:0 and C14:0. The genomic DNA G + C content of the type strain was 54.0 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANIb and ANIm) values between SYSU G01003T and Paenibacillus azotifigens LMG 29963T were below the cut-off level (95–96%) recommended as the average nucleotide identity (ANI) criterion for interspecies identity. Based on the above results strain SYSU G01003T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus yunnanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain, SYSU G01003T (=KCTC 43132T = CGMCC 1.17384T).

Porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have demonstrated a great potential in proton conduction and luminescence sensing due to functionalized nodes, ligands and channels, or pores. Herein, we prepared a hydrothermally stable Eu-MOF that also resisted acid and base using a bifunctional organic ligand containing carboxylic acid groups, which are easily coordinated to Eu ions, and Eu-phobic tetrazolyl groups as potential proton-hopping sites. The hydrogen bond network, which was constructed by the uncoordinated anionic tetrazolium and the coordinated and free water molecules, endowed this Eu-MOF with the highest proton conductivity of 4.45 × 10-2 S/cm at 373 K and 93% relative humidity. The proton conductivity of the Nafion membrane containing this Eu-MOF increased 1.74 times. More interestingly, the hybrid membrane displayed luminescence pH sensing because the changeable protonation levels of uncoordinated tetrazolium groups along with the pH tuned the emission of embedded Eu-MOFs. Such a dual-functional MOF-based hybrid membrane including proton conduction and pH sensing is reported for the first time, which could open an avenue to the more practical application for functional MOFs.

Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a ubiquitous phospholipid, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis and pathophysiological process of neurological diseases, which constitute the pathological course after cerebral ischemia. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms associated with the pathogenic roles of LPA remain elusive. In this study, we evaluated the expression of the liver X receptor (LXR) and nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) by Western blotting, quantified the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and LPA by ELISA, and evaluated apoptosis and infarct by TUNEL (terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling) and TTC (triphenyltetrazolium chloride) staining respectively in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The levels of LPA, an extracellular signaling molecule, increased after ischemia and caused neurological injury effect, decreased the expression level of LXR, and increased the expression level of inflammatory factors (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) via the NFκB signaling pathway. This elevated LPA-induced pathological process is one of the pathological reactions associated with ischemic brain injury. We present a direct or indirect connection between LPA and LXR in the pathophysiological process. In conclusion, we speculate that the inhibition of LPA generation and administration of LXR agonist may be explored as potential cerebral infarction treatment strategies.

Luminescent metal clusters show promise for applications in imaging and sensing. However, promoting emission from metal clusters at room temperature is a challenging task owing to the lack of an efficient approach to suppress the nonradiative decay process in metal cores. We report herein that the addition of a silver atom into a metal interstice of the radarlike thiolated silver cluster [Ag27 (St Bu)14 (S)2 (CF3 COO)9 (DMAc)4 ]⋅DMAc (NC1, DMAc=dimethylacetamide), which is non-emissive under ambient conditions, produced another silver cluster [Ag28 (AdmS)14 (S)2 (CF3 COO)10 (H2 O)4 ] (NC2) that displayed bright green room-temperature photoluminescence aided by the new ligand 1-adamantanethiol (AdmSH). The 28th Ag atom, which hardly affects the geometrical and electronic structures of the Ag-S skeleton, triggered the emission of green light as a result of the rigidity of the cluster structure.

The quality of commercial saffron largely depends on apocarotenoid levels. Whether they are affected by different flower cultivation regimes remains unknown. In present study, apocarotenoid levels and the expression profiles of 12 genes related to apocarotenoid biosynthesis between field- and indoor-cultivated Crocus sativus L. were analyzed during stigma development. Under both cultivation regimes, apocarotenoid accumulation and gene expression showed similar profiles, first sharply increasing and then gradually decreasing with stigma development, which suggested the coordinated function of gene expression and apocarotenoid accumulation. However, the rate of increase/decrease varied widely between two blossom regimes at different developmental stages. Based on correlation analysis, βCH1 and ZDS seemed to play a more crucial role in apocarotenoid accumulation under both cultivation regimes. At anthesis, the total apocarotenoid level in saffron cultivated in the field was higher than that cultivated indoors. This may be due to lower gene expression levels in the apocarotenoid pathway, especially βCH1, ZDS, and CCD2, and higher CCD4a and NCED expression in the competitive pathway in saffron cultivated indoors than that in the field, which indicated higher conversion in apocarotenoid biosynthesis flux from crocins and picrocrocin synthesis to β-ionone and the ABA biosynthetic branch in saffron cultivated indoors. These results provide valuable information for modifying planting mode to enhance saffron quality.

A Gram-stain-positive, motile, rod-shaped and endospore-forming strain, SYSU K30002T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from a karst cave in Xingyi county, Guizhou province, south-west China. SYSU K30002T grew at 28–40 °C (optimum, 37 °C), at pH 5.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0–4 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum in the absence of NaCl). The cell-wall peptidoglycan type was A4α (Lys–Asp). The cell-wall sugars of SYSU K30002T were ribose, galactose and mannose, and MK-7 was the menaquinone. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1 ω7c alcohol and iso-C16 : 0. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and two unidentified phospholipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 36.1 mol%. The average nucleotide identity values between SYSU K30002T and its closest relatives were below the cut-off level (95–96 %) for species delineation. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genome comparisons, strain SYSU K30002T represents a novel species of the genus Lysinibacillus , for which the name Lysinibacillusantri sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SYSU K30002T (=KCTC 33955T=CGMCC 1.13504T).

A Gram-stain-positive, facultatively anaerobic and non-motile strain, designated SYSUP0004T, was isolated from the tubers of Gastrodia elata Blume collected from Yunnan Province, PR China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence result showed that the strain SYSUP0004T shared low similarity (97.7 %) with the type strain of Cellulomonas marina . SYSUP0004T grew at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 8.0), temperature 4–30 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and could tolerate NaCl up to 4 % w/v (optimum in the absence of NaCl). The cell-wall peptidoglycan type was A4β with an interpeptide bridge l-ornithine–d-glutamic acid. Cell-wall sugars were mannose, ribose, glucose, galactose and fucose. The menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15:0, anteiso-C15 : 1 A, C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. The polar lipids of SYSUP0004T were diphosphatidylglycerol, unidentified phosphoglycolipid, phosphatidylinositol mannosides and unidentified glycolipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was 76.5 %. The average nucleotide identity values between SYSUP0004T and members of the genus Cellulomonas were below the cut-off level (95–96 %) recommended as the ANI criterion for interspecies identity. Thus, based on the above results strain SYSUP0004T represents a novel species of the genus Cellulomonas , for which the name Cellulomonas endophytica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain, SYSUP0004T (=KCTC 49025T=CGMCC 1.16405T).

A Gram-staining positive, motile, rod-shaped and subterminal endospore-forming bacterium, designated strain SYSU K30005T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from a karst cave in Libo county, Guizhou province, south-western China. Strain SYSU K30005T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Lysinibacillus fusiformis (98.6%) and Lysinibacillus sphaericus (98.2%). In phylogenetic tree, strain SYSU K30005T clade with the members of the genus Lysinibacillus. Based on the phylogenetic and 16S gene sequence result, strain SYSU K30005T was affiliated to the genus Lysinibacillus. The growth of SYSU K30005T was observed at 15–37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0–4% (w/v) NaCl (optimum in 3.5% NaCl). Cell wall peptidoglycan type was A4α (Lys–Asp). The cell-wall sugars of SYSU K30005T were ribose, galactose and mannose and MK-7 was the only quinone. The fatty acids (> 5% of total fatty acids) were iso-C15:0, anteiso-C15:0, iso-C16:0 and iso-C17:0. The polar lipids profile included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatideylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and an unidentified phospholipid. The genomic DNA G + C content was 37.2 mol%. The average nucleotide identity values between SYSU K30005T and its closest relatives were below the cut-off level (95–96%) for species delineation. The results support the conclusion that strain SYSU K30005T represents a novel species of the genus Lysinibacillus, for which we proposed the name Lysinibacillus cavernae sp. nov. The type strain is SYSU K30005T (= KCTC 43130T = CGMCC 1.17492T).

China is a hotspot for hot springs and during microbial diversity analysis of Tengchong hot spring, Yunnan province, south-west PR China, two strains designated SYSU G01001T and SY-13 were isolated. SYSU G01001T and SY-13 were Gram-stain-positive, motile and spore-forming. Colonies were white, circular, raised and punctiform. SYSU G01001T and SY-13 grew at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum pH 8.0) and at 23–37 °C (optimum 28 °C). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between SYSU G01001T and SY-13 was 99.6 % but these strains shared low sequence similarity with Paenibacillus azotifigens (97.5 %) indicating that they represented a novel species. On the basis of the results, SYSU G01001T was selected for further investigations and SY-13 was considered to represent a second strain of the species. The cell wall peptidoglycan of SYSU G01001T was meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid and MK-7 was the only respiratory quinone. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), two unidentified aminolipids (AL), two unidentified amino phospholipids (APL), an unidentified phospholipid (PL) and an unidentified polar lipid (L). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 53.9 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANIb and ANIm) values between SYSU G01001T and Paenibacillus azotifigens LMG 29963T were below the cut-off level (95–96 %) recommended as the average nucleotide identity (ANI) criterion for interspecies identity. On the basis of the above results strain SYSU G01001T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus , for which the name Paenibacillus tepidiphilus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SYSU G01001T (=KCTC 33952T=CGMCC 1.13870T).

This study intends to compare short-term efficacy of 12 chemotherapy regimens in treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by a network meta-analysis (NMA). PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase were searched from the inception of each database to June 2018. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the 12 chemotherapy regimens for advanced NSCLC were included. Direct and indirect evidence were combined by NMA to evaluate the odds ratio and the surface under the cumulative ranking curves (SUCRA) of the 12 chemotherapy regimens. Nineteen RCTs that met our inclusion criteria were collected in this study. For partial response (PR), gemcitabine exhibited relatively poor efficacy compared with cisplatin + gemcitabine, carboplatin + gemcitabine, carboplatin + paclitaxel, paclitaxel + gemcitabine, and cisplatin + gemcitabine + vinorelbine. For overall response rate (ORR), gemcitabine had poorer efficacy than cisplatin + gemcitabine and paclitaxel + gemcitabine. For disease control rate (DCR), compared with carboplatin + gemcitabine and gemcitabine, paclitaxel + gemcitabine had a better efficacy. Gemcitabine had the lowest SUCRA values in terms of complete response, PR, ORR, stable disease, and DCR; whereas paclitaxel + gemcitabine ranked the highest in ORR, progressive disease, and DCR. The cluster analysis revealed that cisplatin + gemcitabine, paclitaxel + gemcitabine, and cisplatin + gemcitabine + vinorelbine had better short-term efficacy for advanced NSCLC. Collectively, short-term efficacy of multidrug combination chemotherapy regimens was superior to that of single-drug chemotherapy regimens for advanced NSCLC. Cisplatin + gemcitabine, paclitaxel + gemcitabine, and cisplatin + gemcitabine + vinorelbine may have particularly prominent short-term efficacy for advanced NSCLC.
