The applications of pyridines and their benzo derivatives, during the last decade are described together with natural products containing pyridine ring systems. The applications are classified into three categories: biological, chemical, and performance. Performance applications based on physical properties of pyridines and their benzo-derived compounds, describes dyes, flavor and fragrances, and ionic liquids. Chemical applications, based on the chemical properties of pyridines and benzo derivatives, describe reagents in analytical chemistry as well as catalysts and reagents in organic synthesis. Pyridine polymers are discussed in a separate section. Biological applications based on bioactivity of pyridine compounds, are further elaborated in sections on pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and veterinary products.
