Sulfadiazine (SDZ) is a common antibiotic pollutant in wastewater. Given that it poses a risk as an environmental pollutant, finding effective ways to treat it is important. In this paper, the composite catalytic material g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH was prepared, and its degradation performance was studied. g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH had a superior degradation effect on SDZ than g-C3N4 and γ-FeOOH. Compared with different g-C3N4 loadings and different catalyst dosages (5, 10, 25, and 50 mg/L), 2 mg/L g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH with a g-C3N4 loading of 5.0 wt% has the highest degradation promotion rate for SDZ, reaching up to 258.75% at 600 min. In addition, the photocatalytic enhancement mechanism of the catalyst was studied. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that the enhancement of photocatalytic activity was related to the narrowing of the forbidden band and the local electron density of the valence band. The bandgap of the catalyst was gradually narrowed from 2.7 to 1.05 eV, which can increase the light absorption intensity and expand the absorption edge. The density of states diagram showed that the local resonance at the interface could effectively improve the separation efficiency of e−-h+ pairs. Four degradation paths of SDZ were speculated based on DFT calculations. The analysis confirmed that the degradation path of SDZ primarily included Smiles-type rearrangement, SO2 extrusion, and S-N bond cleavage processes.

Mast cell activation is initiated by two signalling pathways: immunoglobulin E (IgE)-dependent and IgE-independent pathway. It is reported that the IgE-independent type or pseudo-allergy pathway gets activated by G-protein-dependent activation of the mast cell. Recently, adiponectin (APN) receptors, AdipoR1, and AdipoR2 have been identified as G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Interestingly, APN replenishment is reported to activate the Nrf2/HO-1 signalling axis. However, no study has been performed interlinking the role of APN and the Nrf2/HO-1 signalling axis in pseudo-allergic reaction. In the present study, we evaluated the anti-pseudo-allergic effects of β-caryophyllene, an FDA-approved food additive, in activating AdipoR1/AdipoR2 and Nrf2/HO-1 axis signalling pathway. Compound 48/80 (C48/80)-induced systemic and cutaneous anaphylaxis-like shock in BALB/c mice was performed to assess the efficacy of β-caryophyllene (BCP). To assess the effect of BCP in anaphylactic hypotension, mean arterial pressure was measured in Wistar rats. Inhibitory properties of BCP in mast cell degranulation were estimated in rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMCs). ELISA was performed to estimate interleukin (IL)-6, tumour necrosis factor (TNF), IL-1β, IgE, ovalbumin (OVA)-IgE and APN and western blotting for protein expression of Nrf2/HO-1 and AdipoR1-AdipoR2. BCP dose-dependently inhibited systemic and cutaneous anaphylaxis-like shock induced by C48/80. BCP dose-dependently inhibited the mast cell degranulation followed by inhibition of histamine release. Also BCP dose-dependently activated the Nrf2/HO-1 and AdipoR1-AdipoR2 signalling axis pathway. Moreover, BCP reversed the drop in blood pressure when the haemodynamic parameters were accessed. Our findings suggest that BCP is a potent AdipoR1/AdipoR2-Nrf2/HO-1 axis pathway agonist that may suppress the IgE-independent pathway towards allergic response to secretagogues.

Nephron loss initiates compensatory hemodynamic and cellular effects on the remaining nephrons. Increases in single nephron glomerular filtration rate and tubular flow rate exert higher fluid shear stress (FSS) on tubules. In principal cell (PC) culture models FSS induces ERK, and ERK is implicated in the regulation of transepithelial sodium (Na) transport, as well as, proliferation. Thus, we hypothesize that high tubular flow and FSS mediate ERK activation in the cortical collecting duct (CCD) of solitary kidney which regulates amiloride sensitive Na transport and affects CCD cell number. Immunoblotting of whole kidney protein lysate was performed to determine phospho-ERK (pERK) expression. Next, sham and unilateral nephrectomized mice were stained with anti-pERK antibodies, and dolichos biflorus agglutinin (DBA) to identify PCs with pERK. Murine PCs (mpkCCD) were grown on semi-permeable supports under static, FSS, and FSS with U0126 (a MEK1/2 inhibitor) conditions to measure the effects of FSS and ERK inhibition on amiloride sensitive Na short circuit current (Isc). pERK abundance was greater in kidney lysate of unilateral vs. sham nephrectomies. The total number of cells in CCD and pERK positive PCs increased in nephrectomized mice (9.3 ± 0.4 vs. 6.1 ± 0.2 and 5.1 ± 0.5 vs. 3.6 ± 0.3 cell per CCD nephrectomy vs. sham, respectively, n > 6 per group, p < 0.05). However, Ki67, a marker of proliferation, did not differ by immunoblot or immunohistochemistry in nephrectomy samples at 1 month compared to sham. Next, amiloride sensitive Isc in static mpkCCD cells was 25.3 ± 1.7 μA/cm2 (n = 21), but after exposure to 24 h of FSS the Isc increased to 41.4 ± 2.8 μA/cm2 (n = 22; p < 0.01) and returned to 19.1 ± 2.1 μA/cm2 (n = 18, p < 0.01) upon treatment with U0126. Though FSS did not alter α- or γ-ENaC expression in mpkCCD cells, γ-ENaC was reduced in U0126 treated cells. In conclusion, pERK increases in whole kidney and, specifically, CCD cells after nephrectomy, but pERK was not associated with active proliferation at 1-month post-nephrectomy. In vitro studies suggest high tubular flow induces ERK dependent ENaC Na absorption and may play a critical role in Na balance post-nephrectomy.

To measure the retinal microvascular density in patients with anisometropic amblyopia using optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA) and to evaluate the effects of successful amblyopia treatment on microvasculature in retina. 59 children (5–12 years old) including 22 newly diagnosed unilateral anisometropic amblyopia, 16 recovered unilateral anisometropic amblyopia, and 21 control children were imaged with OCTA using 6 × 6-mm macular scan pattern. Vessel densities of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), the deep capillary plexus (DCP), and the overall macular thickness were acquired and compared among the three groups. After adjustment for axial length, the amblyopia group showed lower macular vessel density in the SCP (P = 0.005) and in the DCP (P = 0.004) compared with that of the control group. However, for the recovered amblyopia group, no difference of vessel density was found when compared with the control group in both the SCP (P = 0.548) and the DCP (P = 0.124). No difference of the mean macular thickness was found among three groups (P ≥ 0.15). Children with anisometropic amblyopia have reduced macular vessel density in OCTA, while no difference of macular vessel density was found between the recovered amblyopic and control eyes. Macular thickness showed no difference in anisometropic amblyopia and remained unchanged after amblyopic treatment.

Nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode material can be successfully prepared through a simple hydrothermal method. The morphology and microstructure of ready to use electrode material is measured by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Physical characterizations revealed that nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode material possessed high specific surface area of 429.6 m2 · g−1, resulting in high utilization of electrode materials with electrolyte. Electrochemical performance of nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode was also investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in aqueous in 6 M KOH with a three-electrode system, which displayed a high specific capacitance about 223.5 F · g−1 at 1 mV · s−1. More importantly, nitrogenenriched reduced graphene oxide electrode exhibited outstanding stability with 100% coulombic efficiency and with no specific capacitance loss under 2 A · g−1 after 10000 cycles. The supercapacitive behaviors indicated that nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide can be a used as a promising electrode for high-performance super-capacitors.

This study demonstrates that brassinosteroid is essential for seedling and shoot growth in moso bamboo. The shoot of moso bamboo is known to grow extremely fast. The roles of phytohormones in such fast growth of bamboo shoot remain unclear. Here we reported that endogenous brassinosteroid (BR) is a major factor promoting bamboo shoot internode elongation. Reducing endogenous brassinosteroid level by its biosynthesis inhibitor propiconazole stunted shoot growth in seedling stage, whereas exogenous BR application promoted scale leaf elongation and the inclination of lamina joint of leaves and scale leaves. Genome-wide transcriptome analysis identified hundreds of genes whose expression levels are altered by BR and propiconazole in shoots and roots of bamboo seedling. The data show that BR regulates cell wall-related genes, hydrogen peroxide catabolic genes, and auxin-related genes. Our study demonstrates an essential role of BR in fast growth bamboo shoots and identifies a large number of BR-responsive genes in bamboo seedlings.

In traditional societies, nutrition and health care are strongly unified as several plants have been consumed both as food and for nutritional purposes. Millet's are inexpensive and nutritionally comparable or even superior to major cereals and are consumed traditionally as health and vitality foods in ancient India. The aim of this study is to determine the qualitative and quantitative phytochemical and antioxidant properties of Barnyard and Proso millet. The qualitative phytochemical analysis was carried out by using organic solvents such as distilled water, ethanol, chloroform and methanol. Among the four solvent the methanol extract shows the strong presence of alkaloid, phenol, steroid, carbohydrate, amino acid, tannin, protein steroids, saponin and amino acid. The quantitative phytochemical analysis, the Proso millet, contains 47.07 mg GAE/g of phenol, 51.02 mg RE/g of flavonoids and 3.96 mg/g of tannin. Where, the Banyard millet 16.07 mg GAE/g of phenol, 30.04 mg RE/g of flavonoids and 1.05 mg/g of tannin. The antioxidant activity were assessed through the DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power assay using chloroform and methanol extract, which shows strong antioxidant potential. The result of study showed the importance of millet's as antioxidant sources that enhance the antioxidant properties of human beings and in the management of age related human ailments.

Medicinal Plants play a vital role in minimizing human illness and enhancing the quality of human life form ancient days itself. Plant-based medicines basically contain a natural substance, which promotes human health. In recent years, many researchers focus on medicinal plants and most of the pharmaceutical industry is vastly reliant on plant materials for the extraction of therapeutically important compounds. In the present investigation focused on qualitative, quantitative phytochemical and in vitro antioxidant activity of Cadaba fruticosa and Capparis spinosa leaves belonging to the family Capparidaceae. Among the different extracts studied, the chloroform leaf extract has high catalase activity. Peroxidase and Polyphenol activity was more in ethanol leaf extracts. Whereas Superoxide dismutase activity was high in aqueous extracts of both samples. Free radical scavenging activity of different leaf extracts was analyzed by using DPPH, nitric oxide and reducing power assay, whereas commercial antioxidant acts as standards. In DPPH assay C. fruticosa ethanol leaf extracts showed the best results than C.spinosa. In nitric oxide scavenging activity and reducing power assay ethanol extracts of both plants showed higher inhibition. The results suggest that C. fruiticosa and C.spinosa possess a good source of free radical scavenging compounds and the best supplements for the diseases associated with oxidative stress.

For separation of the azeotrope of allyl alcohol and water, three extractive agents—isobutyl acetate, butyl acetate, and butyl propionate—were selected to extract allyl alcohol from the azeotrope. To recover the extractive agents by distillation, the isobaric vapor–liquid phase equilibrium (VLE) data for allyl alcohol + isobutyl acetate, allyl alcohol + butyl acetate, and allyl alcohol + butyl propionate were measured at 101.3 kPa. With the VLE data, there is no azeotrope formed in three systems. The consistency of the measured VLE data was validated by the Herington, infinite dilution, pure component consistency, and van Ness tests. Moreover, the Wilson, UNIQUAC, and NRTL models were used to fit the measured VLE data. All of the calculated results agreed with the VLE experimental data. Meanwhile, the parameters of the Wilson, UNIQUAC, and NRTL were regressed, which can be employed for the development and optimization of the separation process. Lithium‐sulfur battery has been regarded to be one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage devices on account of its high theoretical specific capacity, low cost and non-toxicity. Nevertheless, the practical application is largely hindered by the fast capacity attenuation, which primarily resulted from the shuttle effect of the soluble polysulfides. Herein, a ZIF 67-based separator with ion selective permeation is designed to mitigate the shuttling problem. The ZIF-67/Super P composite hinders the migration of polysulfides, while the high conductive Super P leads to efficient utilization of the trapped polysulfides in the subsequent cycles. The battery based on ZIF-67/Super P-coated separator shows a good initial specific capacity of 1341 mAh g‐1 at 0.2 C with great capacity retention and delivers enhanced rate capability. This work verifies the potential of employing MOF-based composites as the modification materials of separators for high performance lithium‑sulfur batteries.

In this work, chloroform and p -xylene were selected as azeotropic agents to separate the azeotrope of {2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propanol (TFP) + water} by azeotropic distillation. The isobaric vapour-liquid equilibrium data for the binary systems of (TFP + water), (TFP + chloroform), and (TFP + p -xylene) were determined at 101.3 kPa by a modified Rose type recirculating still. The thermodynamic consistency of the experimental data was checked by the Herington, van Ness, infinite dilution, and pure component consistency method. The experimental results were correlated by the NRTL, UNIQUAC and Wilson activity coefficient models, and the binary interaction parameters of the three models were regressed. All the correlated results by the NRTL, UNIQUAC, and Wilson models show good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, the distillation synthesis ternary maps for the systems (TFP + water + chloroform) and the (TFP + water + p -xylene) were obtained with the regressed interaction parameters of the NRTL model, and two distillation processes were presented to separate the azeotrope of (TFP + water).

Background/Aims: A growing body of evidence indicates that the abnormal expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in sensitizing the cellular response to ionizing radiation (IR). The aim of this study was to investigate whether the expression of miR-124 correlated with radiosensitivity in the context of non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Methods: Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to quantify miR-124 expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines. The role of miR-124 in NSCLC proliferation and radiosensitivity was analyzed using CCK-8 and flow cytometry apoptosis assays. Luciferase activity assays, RT-PCR, and Western blot assays were performed to confirm the target gene of miR-124. Results: In this study, we found that miR-124 was downregulated both in clinical NSCLC samples and in cell lines. miR-124 inhibited the proliferation of NSCLC cells and enhanced the apoptosis of NSCLC cells exposed to ionizing radiation. We identified signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) as a direct target of miR-124 by using target prediction algorithms and luciferase assays. Overexpression of STAT3 in A549 cell lines restored the enhanced radiosensitivity induced by miR-124. Conclusion: Taking these observations into consideration, we illustrated that miR-124 is a potential target for enhancing the radiosensitivity of NSCLC cells by targeting STAT3.

This work is aimed to study the possibility of recycling plastic waste (polypropylene (PP)) as aggregate instead of sand in the manufacturing of mortar or concrete. For this, an experimental study was carried out to evaluate the influence of nano-SiO2 and recycled PP plastic particles' content on physical, mechanical, and shrinkage properties and microstructure of the mortars with recycled PP plastic particles. The sand is substituted with the recycled PP plastic particles at dosages (0%, 20%, 40%, and 60% by volume of the sand). The nano-SiO2 content is 5% by weight of cement. The physical (porosity, water absorption, and density), mechanical (compressive and flexural strength) and shrinkage properties of the mortars were evaluated, and a complementary study on microstructure of the interface between cementitious matrix and PP plastic particles was made. The measurements of physical and mechanical properties showed that PP-filled mortar had lower density and better toughness (higher ratio of flexural strength to compressive strength). However, the compressive strength and flexural strength of PP-filled mortar is reduced, and the porosity, water absorption, autogenous shrinkage, and dry shrinkage increased as compared to normal cement mortar. The addition of nano-SiO2 reduced the porosity, water absorption, and drying shrinkage of PP-filled mortar and effectively improved the mechanical properties, but increased its autogenous shrinkage. A microscopic study of the interfacial zone (plastic-binder) has shown that there is poor adhesion between PP plastic particles and cement paste. From this work, it is found that recycled PP plastic waste has a great potential to be a construction material. It can be used as partial replacement of natural aggregates instead.

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for three binary systems of (allyl alcohol + water), (allyl alcohol + methanol), and (allyl alcohol + ethanol) were measured at atmospheric pressure of 101.3 kPa by a modified Rose vapor recirculating type equilibrium still. The thermodynamic consistency test for the experimental data of the three binary systems containing allyl alcohol were checked by Herington method and van Ness test, respectively. Meanwhile, the measured VLE data were correlated by three activity coefficient models of Wilson, nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL), and universal quasichemical (UNIQUAC), for which all of the calculated results showed good consistency. The binary interaction parameters of the models were also regressed. The azeotropic behavior could not be observed in (allyl alcohol + methanol) and (allyl alcohol + ethanol) systems, but for (allyl alcohol + water) system, the azeotropic behavior was found, and it had the minimum azeotropic point.

Introduction: Peripheral neuropathy outbreaks have been a common occurrence amongst boarding schoolchildren from seven districts in Bhutan. Thiamin deficiency has always been suspected to be the cause but the status of the vitamin has never been established. This study aims to find the status of thiamin and dietary intake of micronutrients in boarding schoolchildren from seven districts with previous history of peripheral neuropathy outbreaks. Methods: Whole blood thiamin and dietary intake of micronutrients were assessed in 448 school children for four study periods (SP). Baseline data (SP1) was collected when the school children just joined the school at the start of the school academic year. SP2 was the first half of the school year and the data was collected just before the midterm break. SP3 was the short summer break and SP4 the second half of the school academic year. Results: 50.58% of the school children were found to be thiamin deficient at baseline which increased to 90.1% in SP2. The percentage of thiamin deficient school children increased to 91.8% in SP3 and then decreased to 79.82% in SP4. The requirements for vitamin B1, B12, vitamin A and iron were never met by dietary intakes in all the study periods. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study found a high prevalence of Thiamin deficiency in schoolchildren at baseline and the number of school children with Thiamin deficiency increased when in schools. The school children also had inadequate dietary intake of many micronutrients.

Fentanyl [N-(1-phenethyl-4-piperidinyl)propionanilide] is a popular narcotic analgesic agent that is clinically used worldwide. However, fentanyl and its several analogs have caused abuse and fatalities in humans due to overdosing and narrow therapeutic index. The present study reports the synthesis and comparative bioefficacy of fentanyl and its four analogs, viz., N-(1-propyl-4-piperidinyl)propionanilide (1), N-(1-(2-phenoxyethyl)-4-piperidinyl)propionanilide (2), N-(1-(3-phenoxypropyl)-4-piperidinyl)propionanilide (3) and N-(1-(2-cyanoethyl)-4-piperidinyl)propionanilide (4), where the phenethyl chain of fentanyl was replaced by different functional groups, viz., alkyl, ethereal, and nitrile moieties. The median lethal dose (LD50) of the compounds was determined by three different routes and all the analogs were found to be safer than fentanyl. Observational assessment on spontaneous activities of the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, and autonomic nervous system revealed that all the analogs were similar to fentanyl. Further, the neurotoxic effects of all the analogs were reversed by naloxone hydrochloride (opioid antagonist), confirming that their effects were mediated through opioid receptors. Antinociceptive activity was displayed by all the compounds and their median effective dose (ED50) and analgesic potency ratio were more or less similar to fentanyl. The lowest ED50 (23.7) and the highest potency ratio (1.18) was observed in the case of 2. However, the maximum therapeutic index was afforded by 4. The study indicates the promising role of some new opioid analgesics.

Abrin is a highly toxic protein produced by Abrus precatorius. Exposure to abrin, either through accident or by act of terrorism, poses a significant risk to human health and safety. Abrin functions as a ribosome-inactivating protein by depurinating the 28S rRNA and inhibits protein synthesis. It is a potent toxin warfare agent. There are no antidotes available for abrin intoxication. Supportive care is the only option for treatment of abrin exposure. It is becoming increasingly important to develop countermeasures for abrin by developing pre- and post-exposure therapy. The aim of this study is to screen certain pharmaceutical compounds for their chemoprotective properties against abrin toxicity in vivo in BALB/c male mice. Twenty-one compounds having either antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cyto-protective properties or combination of them, were screened and administered as 1h pre-treatment followed by exposure of lethal dose (2×LD50, intraperitoneally) of abrin. To assess the protective efficacy of the compounds, survival and body weight was monitored. Fifteen compounds extended the survival time of animals significantly, as compared to abrin. The following five of these compounds, namely: Epicatechin-3-gallate, Gallic Acid, Lipoic Acid, GSH and Indomethacin extended the life time ranging from 6 to 9 days. These compounds also attenuated the abrin induced inflammation and enzymes associated with liver function, but none of them could prevent abrin induced lethality. The compounds offering extension of life could be useful to provide a time-window for other supportive treatment and could also be used as combinatorial therapy with other medical countermeasures against abrin induced lethality.

Background Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and possibly nuclear DNA (nDNA) are released as danger-associated molecular patterns during cardiac stress, and may activate several innate immune receptors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the regulation of these danger-associated molecular patterns during human heart failure (HF). Methods and Results Plasma levels of mtDNA and nDNA from HF patients (n = 84) were analyzed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and compared with controls (n = 72). Increased levels of mtDNA were found in New York Heart Association (NYHA) I-II and NYHA III-IV. There was evidence of increased nDNA in NYHA III-IV compared with controls and NYHA I-II. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed higher mortality in patients with high nDNA levels, whereas high levels of mtDNA were associated with survival. Conclusions Plasma levels of mtDNA and nDNA are elevated in human HF associated with increased and decreased mortality, respectively. This study may suggest a rationale for exploring interventions within inflammatory signaling pathways activated by nucleic acids as novel targets in treatment of HF.

Recent global events have focused attention on the potential threat of international and domestic chemical terrorism, as well as the possibility of chemical warfare proliferation. Sulphur mustard (SM) is one of the potent chemical warfare agents (CWA), which initiates a cascade of events that converge on the redox mechanisms common to brain injury. The present study was designed to examine the effects of chronic SM exposure on neurobehavioral impairments, mitochondrial oxidative stress in male Swiss Albino mice and its role in inducing apoptotic neuronal cell death. The animals were divided into four groups (control, low, medium and high dose) of 5 animals each. Exposure to SM was given percutaneously daily for 12 weeks. The results demonstrated impairment in neurobehavioral indices viz. rota rod, passive avoidance and water maze tests in a dose dependent manner. There was a significant increase in lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl content whereas, decrease in the activity of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase suggesting impaired antioxidant defense system. Immunoblotting of cytochrome c, Bcl-2, Bax and activation of caspase-3 suggest induction of apoptosis in a dose dependent manner. Finally, increased p53 expression suggests that it may target the mitochondrial pathway for inducing apoptosis in response to DNA damage signals. In conclusion, chronic SM exposure may have the potential to generate oxidative stress which may trigger the release of cytochrome c as well as caspase-3 activation in neurons leading to cell death by apoptosis in a dose dependent manner which may in the end be responsible for the disruption of cognitive functions in mice.

Dichlorvos (DDVP) and monocrotophos (MC) are systemic insecticides and known to produce cholinergic and non-cholinergic effects. Individual toxic effects of these chemicals are known but their combined effects have not been studied. We studied the effect of concomitant exposure to DDVP and MC on selected biochemical variables suggestive of liver damage, changes in whole brain biogenic amines levels, acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and monoamine oxidase (MAO) activities in rats. Female rats were exposed to DDVP (2.5 mg/kg subcutaneously) and MC (1.8 mg/kg oral) either individually or in combination for 4 weeks. We observed significant decrease in more pronounced depletion in norepinephrine (NE) and dopamine (DA) levels during co-exposure to DDVP and MC. Brain AChE activity increased and activity of MAO showed significant depletion on co-exposure to DDVP and MC. Brain glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) ratio decreased significantly during exposure to DDVP or MC while co-exposure to these toxicants led to a more pronounced depletion of GSH: GSSG ratio. Serum aspartate amino transferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities increased significantly on exposure to MC suggesting liver injury, while DDVP alone had no effect on these variables. There were no effects of DDVP and MC exposure on haematological biochemical variables except for depletion in serum glucose level after MC exposure which was more pronounced DDVP + MC during co-exposure. It can be concluded that only moderate synergistic effects occur between MC and DDVP during co-exposure. A more detailed study with variable doses, prolonged exposure and alterations in different brain regions is recommended.
