The article presents several new methods, which can be used for the one-pot catalytic enantio- and diastereoselective syntheses of anti-, syn-cis-disubstituted, and syn-vinyl cyclopropyl alcohols. The approaches are shown to be extremely efficient and beneficial, as they lead to the formation of alcohol building blocks with high selectivities.

Enantioenriched diaryl-, aryl heteroaryl-, and diheteroarylmethanols have displayed important biological and medicinal properties and one-pot asymmetric synthesis of these compounds beginning from aryl bromides are described. The arylation and heteroarylation of enals are followed by diastereoselective epoxidations to provide epoxy alcohols with high enantio- and diastereoselectivites in a one-pot procedure.

A general one-pot multicomponent coupling method is used for preparing (Z)-[alpha],[alpha],[beta]-trisubstituted allylic alcohols and (Z)-trisubstituted vinylzinc reagents are formed in situ by initial hydroboration of 1-bromo-1-alkynes. A protocol is developed for the catalytic asymmetric addition of (Z)-trisubstituted vinylzinc reagents to prochiral aldehydes with a (-)-MIB-based catalyst.

A highly enantio- and diastereoselective one-pot synthesis of halocyclopropyl alcohols is described. The studies have shown that the iodocyclopropanols are metalated with LiCu[(n-bu).sub.2] and quenched with allylbromides to produce allylated cyclopropyl alcohols with high diastereoselectivity.

A one-pot method is described for the direct preparation of enantioenriched (Z)-disubstituted allylic alcohols. The asymmetric (Z)-vinylation is coupled with tandem diastereoselective epoxidation reactions in order to provide epoxy alcohols and allylic epoxy alcohols.
