Hereditary aceruloplasminemia (ACP) is a rare adult-onset autosomal recessive disease characterized by a ceruloplasmin (CP) gene mutation and defective or absent CP function. In the present study, we report a case of ACP in a 34-year-old Chinese woman with diabetes, fatigue, anxiety, and progressive membrane loss with low hemoglobin associated with microcytosis. The fasting glucose level was 5.6-7.96 mmol/L. Postprandial blood glucose ranged from 6.8 to 9.6 mmol/L. The Stumvoll first-phase and second-phase insulin secretion disposition indices were very low, and the serum iron content was low, even though transferrin levels were normal. Moreover, the transferrin saturation was low (5%), and the ferritin level was extremely high, above 2,000 μg/L in the patient. Furthermore, her serum CP level was extremely low ( A) in the CP gene and was diagnosed with ACP. To date, less than 60 family cases of ACP have been reported worldwide, and only two cases of ACP have been reported in China. Here, we report a case of ACP accompanied by diabetes with a novel mutation of the CP gene, which suggests that increased awareness should be highlighted in this disorder as diabetes is an important typical symptom.

Two sensitive and effective methods were developed for the detection of catecholamines and related biogenic amines (dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, levodopa and tyramine) using high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection and capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection. A BODIPY fluorescent dye, 1, 3, 5, 7-tetramethyl-8-(N-hydroxysuccinimidyl propionic ester)-difluoroboradiaza- s-indacene was used as pre-column derivatization reagent. The separation and derivatization conditions were optimized in detail. In high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection method, the derivatization reaction was completed at 35 °C for 20 min. At the wavelength of λ ex/λ em = 493 nm/513 nm, dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and levodopa derivatives achieved baseline separation within 15 min. The limits of detection (S/N = 3) were 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, and 0.5 nmol/L, respectively. In capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection method, the derivatization reaction was completed at 25 °C for 20 min. Serotonin, tyramine and dopamine derivatives reached baseline separation within 10 min at the wavelength of λ ex = 473 nm. The limits of detection (S/N = 3) for serotonin, tyramine, and dopamine were 0.3, 0.02, and 0.2 nmol/L, respectively. The amino compounds in human serum and urine samples were detected successfully, and the recoveries were 93.3%–106.7% and 91.0%–103.1%, respectively.

In marine continental margins, high saturations of natural gas hydrate are observed within the gas hydrate stability zone, but the gas migration pathways to the hydrate reservoir are not often clear. We focus on a site in Green Canyon Block 955 (GC 955) in the Gulf of Mexico, where gas hydrate occurs in a 35 m-thick reservoir with saturations of 79-93% in numerous centimeter- to decimeter-thick sandy silt layers and little to no gas hydrate in the interbedded cm to decimeter-thick clayey silt layers. Different datasets (well logging, coring, and seismic data) suggest different types of potential methane migration mechanisms. For example, relatively high particulate organic carbon content in the reservoir and the microbial methane source indicated by gas chromatography and methane isotopes suggest gas might be made locally and migration could occur through dissolved methane sources or water advection. In contrast, the visible deeply rooted faults intersecting the gas hydrate reservoir and the gas pockets adjacent to the faults on seismic data suggest that free gas may migrate directly into the reservoir. We tested three different mechanisms to form gas hydrate at GC 955: short-range methane diffusion, short-range methane diffusion coupled with upward water advection, and free gas flow. The 1-D and 2-D numerical models show that both the short-range migration and the upward water advection are not enough to form high saturations gas hydrate at GC 955, and that free gas flow is required to form the high saturations of gas hydrate observed at GC 955.

Beta-gallium oxide (β-Ga2O3) thin films were prepared on a MgO (100) substrate under different oxygen flow ratios via magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV–visible near-infrared (UV–vis–NIR) analyses were conducted to study how the oxygen flow ratio affected the crystalline quality and the surface topography of the films. Microstructure analysis revealed a clear out-of-plane orientation of β-Ga2O3 (100) || MgO (100). The film deposited under an oxygen flow ratio of 1% presented the optimal single-crystalline structure, while excess oxygen was confirmed to negatively impact the crystallization characteristics of the films. SEM measurements indicated that the increase in the oxygen flow ratio reduced the grain size and RMS roughness. The average transmittance of the β-Ga2O3 films in the visible range exceeded 83%, with a broad luminescence band exhibited at approximately 485 nm in the photoluminescence (PL) spectra.

High molecular weight poly(amide-imide)s containing cardo structures were readily prepared by a supported palladium-catalyzed carbonylation polymerization of diiodo imide monomers, aromatic diamines containing cardo groups, and carbon monoxide. Polycondensation reaction proceeded effectively in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) at 100 °C in the presence of a bidentate phosphino-modified magnetic nanoparticles-anchored palladium complex [2P-Fe3O4@SiO2-PdCl2] as catalyst and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]-7-undecene (DBU) as base under 1 atm of CO, yielding a series of new poly(amide-imide)s with inherent viscosities up to 0.95 dL/g. All the polymers obtained were easily soluble in some strong polar aprotic organic solvents and could be cast into transparent, flexible and tough films from their DMAc solutions. These cardo poly(amide-imide)s displayed high thermal stability with the glass transition temperatures ranging from 237 to 265 °C, the temperatures at 5% weight loss ranging from 433 to 475 °C in nitrogen. These PAI films also exhibited good mechanical behavior and high optical transparency. The present method provides the flexibility of incorporating different ratios of imide and amide groups in the polymer backbone in a controlled manner and eliminates the possibility of postpolymerization curing due to the imide moiety being preformed. Importantly, the supported palladium catalyst can be conveniently separated from the polymer by simply using an external magnetic field and recycled at least 8 times without apparent loss of catalytic efficiency.

The development of advanced energy storage systems, such as rechargeable batteries and supercapacitors (SCs), is one of the great challenges related to energy demand with the rapid development of world economy. Herein, a three-dimensional hierarchical porous lignin-derived carbon/WO3 (HPC/WO3) was prepared by carbonization and solvothermal process. This electrode material for supercapacitor can be operated at a wide voltage window range of −0.4 V to 1.0 V. More importantly, 3HPC/WO3 with ultrahigh mass loading (~3.56 mg cm−2) has excellent specific capacitance of 432 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 and cycling stability of 86.6% after 10,000 cycles at 10 A g−1. The as-assembled asymmetrical supercapacitor shows an energy density of 34.2 W h kg−1 at a power density of 237 W kg−1 and energy density of 16 W h kg−1 at a power density is 14,300 W kg−1. A solid-state planar micro-supercapacitor (MSC) was fabricated using HPC/WO3 nanocomposites. Moreover, the calculated specific capacity of MSC was 20 mF cm−2 in polyvinyl alcohol–sulfuric acid gel electrolyte. Overall, through the reasonable design of HPC/WO3 nanocomposite materials and the efficient assembly of MSCs, the performance of the device was greatly improved, thus providing a clear strategy for the development of energy storage devices.

Background Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is associated with lower esophageal sphincter (LES) incompetence. In some patients, GERD is refractory to acid reduction therapy which is the main treatment for GERD. So far, medications that can increase LES tone are few. Arecae pericarpium (A. pericarpium) is a medication in Traditional Chinese Medicine known to promote intestinal motility. Methods We investigated the effect of A. pericarpium extracts on porcine LES motility. In addition, we used tetrodotoxin (TTX) and atropine to study the underlying mechanism of A. pericarpium extracts-induced contractions of LES. Results The results of this study showed that A. pericarpium extracts and their main active ingredient, arecoline, can induce the contractions of porcine LES sling and clasp muscles in a dose-response manner. TTX did not have an inhibitory effect on the contractions induced by A. pericarpium extracts and arecoline in LES. However, atropine significantly inhibited A. pericarpium extracts- and arecoline-induced contractions of LES. Conclusion A. pericarpium extracts can induce the contractions of porcine LES in a dose dependent manner, possibly through muscarinic receptors, and hence, may be worth developing as an alternative therapy for GERD.

Plant bacteria such as Xanthomonas axonopodispv. citri (Xac), Pseudomonas syringaepv. actinidiae (Psa), Xanthomonas oryzaepv. oryzae (Xoo), and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) have created huge obstacles to the global trade of food and economic crops. However, traditional chemical agents used to control these plant diseases have gradually become disadvantageous due to long-term irregular use. Therefore, finding new and efficient antibacterial and antiviral agents is becoming imperative. In this study, a series of myricetin derivatives containing a quinazolinone moiety were designed and synthesized, and the antibacterial and antiviral activities of these compounds were evaluated. The bioassay results showed that some target compounds exhibited good antibacterial activities in vitro and antiviral activities in vivo. Among them, the median effective concentration (EC50) value of compound L18 against Xac was 16.9 μg/mL, which was better than those of the control drugs bismerthiazol (BT) (62.2 μg/mL) and thiodiazole copper (TC) (97.5 μg/mL). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results confirmed that compound L18 inhibited the growth of Xac by affecting the morphology of cells. Microscale thermophoresis (MST) test results indicated that the dissociation constant (Kd) value of compound L11 against TMV-CP was 0.012 μM, which was better than that of the control agent ningnanmycin (2.726 μM). This study reveals that myricetin derivatives containing a quinazolinone moiety are potential antibacterial and antiviral agents.

The hydrogel wound dressings are mostly sheet-like and do not possess adhesive properties, so it is often difficult for them to adhere well to the skin tissues and fit completely with the irregularly shaped wounds or deep wounds, thereby affecting their therapeutic effects. Herein, the chitosan derivative-based mussel-inspired hydrogels have been developed to overcome these obstacles. Specifically, the principle of adhesion of marine mussel was imitated to synthesize catechol-modified chitosan (CMC), which was potentially used as the raw material to prepare the mussel-inspired hydrogels, that can contribute to the excellent adhesive property and make the hydrogels adhere well to the wound sites. The o-diphenyl groups in CMC could be easily oxidized to form o-diquinone to further form a covalent binding with amino groups (–NH2), or can directly form coordination binding with Fe3+.This strong covalent and coordination binding causes the hydrogels to possess a complex spatial structure, which facilitates the hydrogels to display good swelling properties, drug loading and release properties. Furthermore, the total saponins of Panax notoginseng were loaded in the hydrogels and the therapeutic effects of drug-loaded hydrogel were investigated in the model of full-thickness skin injury in mice. The wound healing rate was observed to be as high as 92.5% without exhibiting any scarring. Overall, our findings provided a novel strategy for the preparation of hydrogels for therapeutic applications.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), as one of the most severe hemorrhagic strokes, is closely related to neuronal damage. Neurogenesis is a promising therapy, however, reliable targets are currently lacking. Increasing evidence has indicated that CD24 is associated with the growth of hippocampal neurons and the regulation of neural stem/precursor cell proliferation. To investigate the potential effect of CD24 in astrocytes on neuron growth in the hippocampus, we used a Transwell co-culture system of hippocampal astrocytes and neurons, and oxyhemoglobin (OxyHb) was added to the culture medium to mimic SAH in vitro. A specific lentivirus was used to knock down CD24 expression in astrocytes, which was verified by western blot, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunofluorescent staining. Astrocyte activation, neurite elongation, neuronal apoptosis, and cell viability were also assessed. We first determined the augmented expression level of CD24 in hippocampal astrocytes after SAH. A similar result was observed in cultured astrocytes exposed to OxyHb, and a corresponding change in SHP2/ERK was also noticed. CD24 in astrocytes was then downregulated by the lentivirus, which led to the impairment of axons and dendrites on the co-cultured neurons. Aggravated neuronal apoptosis was induced by the CD24 downregulation in astrocytes, which might be a result of a lower level of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). In conclusion, the knock-down of CD24 in astrocytes suppressed hippocampal neuron growth, in which the SHP2-ERK signaling pathway and BNDF were possibly involved.

Various 1,3,4-oxadiazole thioether 4H-chromen-4-one derivatives were conceived. The title compounds demonstrated striking inhibitory effects against Xac, Psa, and Xoo. EC50 data exhibited that A8 (19.7 μg/mL) had better antibacterial activity against Xoo than myricetin, BT, and TC. Simultaneously, the mechanism of action of A8 had been verified by SEM. The results of anti-tobacco mosaic virus indicated that A9 had the best in vivo antiviral effect compared with ningnanmycin. From the data of MST, it could be seen that A9 (0.003 ± 0.001 μmol/L) exhibited a strong binding capacity, which was far superior to ningnanmycin (2.726 ± 1.301 μmol/L). This study shows that the 1,3,4-oxadiazole thioether 4H-chromen-4-one derivatives may become agricultural drugs with great potential.

Cross-linked polyaniline (PANI) gel can provide rapid transfer channels for electrons and ions, and self-cross-linked PANI (SC-PANI) electrodes have been previously reported. However, there are few reports on the preparation of free-standing PANI (FS-PANI) electrodes. Hence, new preparation technologies are required for FS-PANI electrodes and their electrochemical performance must be estimated. Moreover, FS-PANI must be compared with SC-PANI to better estimate their performance. In this study, SC-PANI was prepared using p-phenylenediamine (PPD), phytic acid, aniline (An), and ammonium persulfate as the additive, doping acid, monomer, and oxidant, respectively. Then, it was hydrothermally transformed into FS-PANI. The microstructures of SC-PANI and FS-PANI were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and their electrochemical performances were tested using cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge–discharge (CD) measurement, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. When the molar ratio of PPD to An was 0.10, the electrochemical performance of SC-PANI was the best as it achieved the largest specific capacitance (Cs) (403 F/g) and lowest internal resistance. After 2000 CD cycles, Cs remained at 73%. However, the Cs of FS-APNI was 511 F/g and 97% of the initial Cs value was maintained after 2000 CD cycles. This study is expected to provide an effective basis for the future research on free-standing electrode materials for supercapacitors.

This study assessed the effect and potential molecular mechanism of tanshinone IIA on fracture healing. Mice model with fracture were established. Digital radiographic photographic system was used to detect callus formation after treatment with tanshinone II A (Tan IIA) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining analyzed ALP activity. Osteoblast proliferation was also measured. Western blot and Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) measured osteogenic markers expression. Compared with control group, Tan IIA treatment could increase callus formation, stimulate osteoblast proliferation, osteogenic proteins and genes expression, and activate mTORC1 signaling pathway. However, Tan IIA’s effects were significantly inhibited after rapamycin treatment. Tan IIA regulates osteoblast differentiation by mTORC1 signaling and promotes intramembranous ossification in the process of callus formation, which accelerates bone healing.

We report a Pd-catalyzed halocyclization of unactivated 1,6-diynes with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS). This approach produces stereo-defined dibromo substituted dihydropyrans, tetrahydropyridines, and 3-methylene cyclohexenes with exocyclic double bond appendages in mostly good yields. Copper salt was found to be a useful Lewis acid in this reaction. Mechanistically, a formal anti-carbopalladation and a bromide radical promoted PdII-PdIII-PdI-PdII catalytic cycles were proposed to be involved in the formation of the dibromo-substituted products. Further functionalization of the dihydropyran derivatives underwent B(C6F5)3-catalyzed ring opening, and reduction afforded dibrominated 1,3-dienes with excellent stereoselectivity.

SHP2 is a protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) that can regulate the tyrosine phosphorylation level. Overexpression of SHP2 will promote the development of cancer diseases, so SHP2 has become one of the popular targets for the treatment of cancer. Studies have reported that both SHP099 and SHP844 are inhibitors of SHP2 and bind to different allosteric sites 1 and 2, respectively. Studies have shown that combining SHP099 with SHP844 will enhance pharmacological pathway inhibition in cells. This study uses molecular dynamic simulations to explore the dual allosteric targeted inhibition mechanism. The result shows that the residues THR108-TRP112 (allosteric site 1) move to LEU236-GLN245 (αB-αC link loop in PTP domain) , the residues of GLN79-GLN87 (allosteric site 2) get close to LEU262-GLN269 (αA-αB link loop in PTP domain) and HIS458-ARG465 (P-loop) come near to ARG501-THR507 (Q-loop) in SHP2-SHP099-SHP844 system, which makes the "inactive conformation" more stable and prevents the substrate from entering the catalytic site. Meanwhile, residue GLU110 (allosteric site 1), ARG265 (allosteric site 2), and ARG501 (Q-loop) are speculated to be the key residues that causing the SHP2 protein in auto-inhibition conformation. It is hoped that this study will provide clues for the development of the dual allosteric targeted inhibition of SHP2.

Introducing stereochemically active lone-pair Sb3+ cations into sulfates, two three-dimensional (3D) antimony-sulfates, Sb4O5SO4 (1) and Sb4O(SO4)(OH)2 (2), were achieved under moderate hydrothermal conditions. Both structures are constructed by tetranuclear-{Sb4}-clusters-based layers and SO4 tetrahedra. However, owing to the different packing patterns of the layers, they display different characteristics: 1 exhibits a centrosymmetric structure while 2 possesses a noncentrosymmetric structure. UV-vis spectra show that they possess wide band gaps. Sb4O(SO4)(OH)2 is nonlinear optical (NLO) active with a second-harmonic generation (SHG) response of ∼1.2 times of KH2PO4, together with the phase-matchable capacity, endowing it a promising UV NLO material. The first-principle calculations were performed to elucidate the structure-property relationships. The results indicate that the lone pair stereoactivity of Sb3+ provides the large contribution to the macroscopic SHG effect.

The carrier recombination was one of the factors limiting the further improvement of the Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin film solar cells. In this paper, a proper bandgap structure was designed to solve this problem. The effects of the different bandgap structure on the CZTS thin film solar cells were studied by the solar cell performance simulation software wxAMPS. A graded bandgap structure was designed and optimized. The bandgap with a front bandgap gradient and a flat bandgap gradient had a favorable effect on the CZTS thin film solar cells. Finally, the fill factor (FF) and conversion efficiency (η) of the CZTS thin film solar cell were increased from 36.41% to 42.73% and from 6.85% to 10.03%, respectively. In addition, the effect of donor and acceptor defect densities in CZTS absorber layer near the CdS/CZTS interface on the device performance was studied, η of the CZTS thin film solar cell was increased from 5.99% to 7.55% when the acceptor defect concentration was 1012–1013 cm−3. Moreover, the thicknesses of the CZTS absorber layer were optimized. The FF and η of the CZTS thin film solar cell were increased to 63.41% and 15.04%, respectively.

Background and aims Lipid-modifying agents (LMAs) are increasingly used to reduce lipid levels and prevent cardiovascular events but the magnitude of their consumption in different world regions is unknown. We aimed to describe recent global trends in LMA consumption and to explore the relationship between country-level LMA consumption and cholesterol concentrations. Methods This cross-sectional and ecological study used monthly pharmaceutical sales data from January 2008 to December 2018 for 83 countries from the IQVIA Multinational Integrated Data Analysis System and total and non-high-density lipoprotein (non-HDL) cholesterol concentrations from the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration. Compound annual growth rate (CAGR) was used to assess changes in LMA consumption over time. Results From 2008 to 2018, use of LMAs increased from 7468 to 11,197 standard units per 1000 inhabitants per year (CAGR 4.13%). An estimated 173 million people used LMAs in 2018. Statins were the most used class of LMA and their market share increased in 75% of countries between 2008 and 2018. From 2013 to 2018, consumption of low-density lipoprotein lowering therapies increased (statins 3.99%; ezetimibe 4.01%; proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors 104.47%). Limited evidence supports a clear relationship between country-level changes in LMA consumption and mean total and non-HDL cholesterol concentrations in 2008 versus 2018. Conclusions Since 2008, global access to LMAs, especially statins, has improved. In line with international lipid guideline recommendations, recent trends indicate growth in the use of statins, ezetimibe, and PCSK9 inhibitors. Country-level patterns of LMA use and total and non-HDL cholesterol varied considerably.

To improve the performance of low-carbon MgO–C refractories, the Cr3C2-coated flake graphite was synthesized by molten salt method, then the Cr3C2-coated flake graphite was added to low-carbon MgO–C refractories. In this work, the effects of reaction temperature, Cr/C mole ratio, and holding time on the synthesis of Cr3C2-coated flake graphite were studied. Furthermore, the effect of Cr3C2-coated flake graphite on the physical properties of low-carbon MgO–C refractories was evaluated. The results indicated that when the reaction temperature was 950 °C, Cr/C molar ratio was 1/2 and holding time was 3 h, the synthesized Cr3C2-coated flake graphite had fewer surface micropores and the crystallinity of Cr3C2 grains was high. In addition, the Cr3C2-coated flake graphite exhibited excellent oxidation resistance. MgO–C refractories containing 2 wt% Cr3C2-coated flake graphite exhibited more excellent physical properties. The results of nano CT detection system showed that the addition of Cr3C2-coated flake graphite promoted the densification of MgO–C refractories.

A direct enaminone C-N bond coupling functionalization that generates a new C-P bond using dialkyl phosphonate for the efficient and stereoselective synthesis of (E)-alkenylphosphonates is reported. The reactions toward target products proceed well with a broad scope, disclosing a valuable new synthetic application of enaminones by the interesting C(sp2)-N bond elaboration.

BACKGROUND Sowing date, seeding rate, and nitrogen (N) topdressing ratio have strong effects on grain yield (GY) and bread-making quality (BQ) in bread wheat. Simultaneous improvement in GY and BQ in bread wheat has long been a challenge due to the inverse relationship between GY and grain protein concentration (GPC). In this study, we investigated whether the GY and BQ of bread wheat sown on different dates could be improved simultaneously by optimizing the seeding rate and the N topdressing ratio. RESULTS Delaying sowing beyond a certain period led to decreases in both GY and BQ. Optimizing the seeding rate and N topdressing ratio enhanced the N uptake during pre- and post-anthesis, as well as N remobilization during grain filling for all wheat plants sown on different dates, thereby increasing the GPC and the total N per grain (Ntot ). Consequently, grain protein composition was improved, resulting in an increased glutenin/gliadin ratio, sodium dodecyl sulfate-insoluble glutenin/total glutenin (i.e., glutenin polymerization index), and high-molecular-weight glutenin subunit/ low-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (HMW-GS/LMW-GS) ratio. Increased GPC and improved grain protein composition enhanced BQ. CONCLUSION The mechanism underlying simultaneous improvement in GY and GPC as well as Ntot was the greater increase in N accumulation in grains per unit area relative to increases in GY, or total grain number per unit area. The GY and BQ can be improved simultaneously regardless of sowing date by optimizing the seeding rate and N topdressing ratio via enhanced N uptake and N remobilization into grains. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Jingyin granules, a marketed antiviral herbal medicine, have been recommended for treating H1N1 influenza A virus infection and Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China. To fight viral diseases in a more efficient way, Jingyin granules are frequently co-administered in clinical settings with a variety of therapeutic agents, including antiviral drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, and other Western medicines. However, it is unclear whether Jingyin granules modulate the pharmacokinetics of Western drugs or trigger clinically significant herb-drug interactions. This study aims to assess the inhibitory potency of the herbal extract of Jingyin granules (HEJG) against human drug-metabolizing enzymes and to clarify whether HEJG can modulate the pharmacokinetic profiles of Western drug(s) in vivo. The results clearly demonstrated that HEJG dose-dependently inhibited human CES1A, CES2A, CYPs1A, 2A6, 2C8, 2C9, 2D6, and 2E1; this herbal medicine also time- and NADPH-dependently inhibited human CYP2C19 and CYP3A. In vivo tests showed that HEJG significantly increased the plasma exposure of lopinavir (a CYP3A-substrate drug) by 2.43-fold and strongly prolonged its half-life by 1.91-fold when HEJG (3 g/kg) was co-administered with lopinavir to rats. Further investigation revealed licochalcone A, licochalcone B, licochalcone C and echinatin in Radix Glycyrrhizae, as well as quercetin and kaempferol in Folium Llicis Purpureae, to be time-dependent CYP3A inhibitors. Collectively, our findings reveal that HEJG modulates the pharmacokinetics of CYP substrate-drug(s) by inactivating CYP3A, providing key information for both clinicians and patients to use herb-drug combinations for antiviral therapy in a scientific and reasonable way.

Blast furnace slag has good adsorption performance and can be used to adsorb heavy metal ions in waste liquid. It’s worth studying whether the blast furnace slag absorbing heavy metal ions will pose a potential threat to the environment during the process when used in cement-based materials.This paper has studied the leaching amount of copper ions in the blast furnace slag-cement system was analyzed, and analyzed the leaching kinetics of copper ions. The results showed that the leaching amount of copper ions in the blast furnace slag-cement system that adsorbed copper ions basically met the national standard, and the solidified body age was 28 days,blast furnace slag content 30% is the smallest condition for the amount of copper ion leaching.The leaching model of copper ions in the blast furnace slag-cement system is the Elovich equation, which is a heterogeneous diffusion process. The longer the curing age is the slower the leaching process is completed and do not cause environmental pollution during long-term use.

As one of the pillar industries for social development and economic construction, cement manufacture is energy and carbon-intensive, whose greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions account for more than 6% of total global man-made GHG emission annually. With the growing attention on the problem of global warming, researching and promoting low-carbon manufacturing technologies to reduce GHG emissions have become the main trend in the development of cement industry under the new era. This article sorted out the low-carbon technologies for cement production reported in recent years, introduced the mainstream methods of GHG accounting and assessment such as life cycle assessment (LCA) and carbon footprint analysis (CFA), meanwhile reviewed the articles in the field of low-carbon technology and assessment methods in cement production, moreover, discussed the merits and demerits of various assessment methods and applicable fields, in order to provide suggestions and supports for low-carbon transformation of cement industry.

Existing methods can not achieve rapid mass decomposition and multi-element analysis of graphite ore samples. In this study, it is found that molten lithium metaborate can destroy the structure of graphite, causing graphite C to be oxidized and decomposed in an oxygen environment. We have established a method for testing graphite ore samples with lithium metaborate at 950°C with melting-ultrasonic extraction-ICP-AES multi-element (Al, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, Si, and Ti) testing. The verification results of the national first-level reference materials show that the detection limit of this method is low and the accuracy and precision are good. The results of the measured samples show no significant difference between this method and the classical chemical analysis method. This method has the following advantages over the existing ones: simple operation process, faster decomposition and testing, low reagent consumption, reduced possibility of sample contamination, and better results reproducibility.

The members of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) family have been demonstrated to play critical roles in various cancers. However, little is known about the function of the Receptor Expressed in Lymphoid Tissues (RELT) in cancers, which is a member of the TNFR family, especially in the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we found that RELT expression was increased in ESCC tissues and was consequently associated with poor overall survival of ESCC patients. Moreover, RELT overexpression was found to promote cell growth, cell cycle progression, and suppressed cell apoptosis in vitro; it also decreased the expression of p27 and caspase 3, and increased the expression of survivin. In addition, RELT contributed to the tumorigenesis of ESCC in vivo. Furthermore, we suggest that RELT may function in the pathogenesis of ESCC by activating the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) pathway. An inhibitor of NF-κB reversed the RELT-induced malignancy in the ESCC cells. Altogether, our findings identified that RELT served as an oncogene in ESCC through the NF-κB pathway, suggesting that RELT may be developed as a novel biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of the ESCC.
