The development of small organic CPL-active molecules with large luminescent dissymmetry factors is highly demanded due to their promising applications in chiroptical devices and sensors. This work describes the design and synthesis of a new family of CPL-active BF2 complexes, (Rp)/(Sp)-3a-3e, which were constructed by fusing a NO-chelated BF2 complex with [2.2]paracyclophane. These complexes display aggregation-amplified CPL with moderate dissymmetry factors values and moderate quantum yields both in solution and in the solid state. In addition, these photophysical properties were rationalized via X-ray diffraction and TD-DFT calculations.

Aromatic polyimide (PI)-based compounds have been widely studied for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to their higher specific energy density, economical, environmentally friendly and adjustable redox potential window. However, their solubility in aprotic electrolytes, inherently poor conductivity and low active site utilization limit their application in large-scale energy storage system (ESS). Here, we synthesized two aromatic PI-based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) and integrated them with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) (TAPT-NTCDA@CNT and TAPT-PMDA@CNT) for using as cathode materials for LIBs and SIBs. The aromatic PI-based CMP can effectively utilize the redox activity site due to its abundant π-conjugated redox active units, stable imide bond, high specific surface area and clear pore structure. As expected, the optimum TAPT-NTCDA@CNT exhibits good rate performance (89.7 mAh g−1 at 2000 mA g−1) and long cycle stability (87.3% capacity retention after 500 cycles) in LIBs. Also, TAPT-NTCDA@CNT can provide a higher initial capacity of 91.1 mAh g−1 in SIBs at 30 mA g−1. This work provides key insights for the further development of other new organic electrodes for other advanced rechargeable batteries.

Purpose Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive molecule which participates in many physical and pathological processes. Although LPA receptor 6 (LPAR6), the last identified LPA receptor, has been reported to have diverse effects in multiple cancers, including breast cancer, its effects and functioning mechanisms are not fully known. Methods Multiple public databases were used to investigate the mRNA expression of LPAR6, its prognostic value, and potential mechanisms in breast cancer. Western blotting was performed to validate the differential expression of LPAR6 in breast cancer tissues and their adjacent tissues. Furthermore, in vitro experiments were used to explore the effects of LPAR6 on breast cancer. Additionally, TargetScan and miRWalk were used to identify potential upstream regulating miRNAs and validated the relationship between miR-27a-3p and LPAR6 via real-time polymerase chain reaction and an in vitro rescue assay. Results LPAR6 was significantly downregulated in breast cancer at transcriptional and translational levels. Decreased LPAR6 expression in breast cancer is significantly correlated with poor overall survival, disease-free survival, and distal metastasis-free survival, particularly for hormone receptor-positive patients, regardless of lymph node metastatic status. In vitro gain and loss-of-function assays indicated that LPAR6 attenuated breast cancer cell proliferation. The analyses of TCGA and METABRIC datasets revealed that LPAR6 may regulate the cell cycle signal pathway. Furthermore, the expression of LPAR6 could be positively regulated by miR-27a-3p. The knockdown of miR-27a-3p increased cell proliferation, and ectopic expression of LPAR6 could partly rescue this phenotype. Conclusion LPAR6 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer and is positively regulated by miR-27a-3p.

Efficiently selecting biomass precursors to prepare porous carbon with rich pore structure and heteroatom doping, and clearly distinguishing the storage behavior of Li+ and Na+ in porous carbon are still the key issues for the development and utilization of biomass-based carbon materials. In this work, four kinds of samara with a hollow structure are used as carbon sources to prepare an N, O and S co-doped hierarchical porous carbon. As the anode for Li/Na-ion batteries, the reversible specific capacity of N, O and S co-doped hierarchical porous carbon (HPC-UP-6) is 1072.3 mAh·g−1 (0.0744 A·g−1) and 333.2 mAh·g−1 (0.1 A·g−1), respectively. The ultra-high specific capacity reveals the rationality of preferentially selecting plant fruits with hollow structures as precursors. In addition, further comparative studies show that the contribution rate of surface-induced capacitance in sodium-ion batteries is more than 10% higher than that in lithium-ion batteries, indicating that Na+ tends to be stored on the surface of porous carbon. This principle of selecting biomass precursors and the new understanding of the storage mechanism of Li+/Na+ in biomass-based porous carbon can guide the design and preparation of new carbon materials with high capacity and high-rate performance.

CaSO4 oxygen carrier is considered to be a potential oxygen carrier (OC) for Chemical Looping Combustion because of its high oxygen capacity and low price. But its reactivity is lower than the main metal oxide oxygen carriers, and it deactivates due to sulfur loss as well as sintering at high reaction temperatures above 920 ℃. To improve the performance of CaSO4-based oxygen carrier, small amounts of CuO particles were mixed mechanistically with CaSO4 particles to use as combined oxygen carrier in this work. The reduction reactions of CaSO4 oxygen carrier, CuO oxygen carrier and CaSO4-CuO combined oxygen carrier under CO atmosphere were investigated. The effects of reaction factors including reaction temperature, the oxygen-carrying ratio of CuO to CaSO4 and mass of oxygen carrier, on the reductions have been investigated in this study. XRD, SEM-EDS, BET and gas analyses were performed to investigate the variations of solid phase, element compositions in solid residual and sulfur release with reaction time. The results show that the addition of CuO increases the reactivity of the CaSO4-based oxygen carrier while also suppressing the release of the gas sulfur. For the individual reduction of CaSO4 by CO, with the increase of CaSO4 mass (500 - 1200 mg), CO2 yield also increases until 1000 mg stops and SO2 released rises remarkably; An increase in the reaction temperature aggravated the SO2 emission. The carbon dioxide generation efficiency also increases with an increase in temperature, but decreases when the temperature exceeds 950 ℃ due to sintering of the oxygen carrier particles; With respect to the reaction of CuO with CO, CO2 yield does not change significantly with increasing temperature, due to the sintering of the CuO oxygen carrier in a high temperature reaction environment;For the combined oxygen carrier: a.As the reduction reaction temperature increases, the reduction reaction performance of the combined oxygen carrier is enhanced within the reaction temperature range of 750~900℃. b. CaO the use of CuO additives not only improves the CO conversion rate, but also inhibits the release of gas sulfide. As the oxygen carrying fraction of CuO increases, SO2 released is reduced and the SO2 release time is delayed. What� more, the solid products after reduction reaction mainly contain CaS, CaO, CuO, Cu2O and CaSO4, and no copper sulfide is detected. c. When the oxygen-carrying ratio of CuO to CaSO4 is increasing from 15% to 20%, CO2 yield increases greatly.

A fast and simple ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography method has been developed for the determination of six analytes, namely (paeonol, coumarin, cinnamic alcohol, cinnamic acid, paeoniflorin and amygdalin) in Guizhi Fuling capsule and tablet samples. The influence of the key chromatographic parameters for the separation purposes was evaluated. The optimal column was Trefoil CEL1 column. The optimal mobile phase was a gradient mixture of carbon dioxide and methanol at flow rate of 1.0 mL min-1 . The back pressure of the system was set to 1.38×107 Pa and the temperature to 45 ℃. The six compounds were separated within 11 min by the proposed ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography method with satisfactory resolution. Method validation confirmed that the procedure is accurate with the recovery rates from 87.04% to 104.30%, intra-day precision values less than less than 4.81% and inter-day precision less than 5.22%, and linear with R2 higher than 0.9967. Therefore, this work provides a simple and novel method for the simultaneous analysis of six compounds in Guizhi Fuling capsule and tablet samples. This article is protected by copyright. La0·3Sr0·7Co0·7Fe0·3O3 (LSCF3773) was chosen as an oxygen carrier material for synthesis gas production and synthesized using ethylene-diamine-tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) citrate-complexing method. LSCF exhibited a pure cubic structure where 110 and 100 plane diffractions were active for CO2 splitting, while 111 was more favored by H2O splitting. Overall oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of LSCF was 4072 μmol/gcat. During the reduction process, regular cations (Co4+, Fe4+), polaron cations (Co3+, Fe3+) and localized cations (Co2+, Fe2+) were achieved when the LSCF was reduced at 500, 700 and 900 °C, respectively. The strength of the active sites depended on reduction temperatures. An increase in oxidation temperature enhanced H2 production at temperature ranging from 500 °C to 700 °C while effected CO production at 900 °C. H2O and CO2 was competitively split during the oxidation step, especially at 700 °C. The activation energy of each reaction was ordered as; CO2 splitting > H2O splitting > CO2 adsorption, supporting the above evidence where H2 and CO production were found to increase when the operating temperature was increased.

A tremella-like Mo and N codoped graphitic nanosheet array supported on activated carbon (Mo2C-MoC/AC-N) is prepared via in situ carbonization of nitrogen-rich cobalt phthalocyanine nanoparticulates anchored on activated carbon as a high-performance anode for potassium-ion batteries. The nanosheets about 5 nm thick are uniformly distributed on the surface of activated carbon for fast K-ion intercalation, and the abundant micropores in activated carbon provide additional adsorption sites of potassium ions, forming a three-dimensional architecture for potassium storage. The 3.9 atom % Mo in Mo2C-MoC/AC-N is in the form of Mo2C and MoC flakes (around 1:1) attached to the graphitic nanosheets. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the reaction with Mo2C (forming K2C) happens mainly at 0.8-0.4 V, while the reaction with MoC (forming K2C) occurs primarily at 0.4-0.01 V. The N doping (9.6 atom %) causes an interlayer spacing expansion of 0.3 A in the graphitic nanosheets, beneficial to the potassium-ion insertion reaction to form KC8 at 0.4-0.01 V. The Mo2C-MoC/AC-N anode exhibits a capacity of 457.5 mA h g-1 at a current density of 0.05 A g-1 and an excellent capacity of 144.4 mA h g-1 at a high current of 5 A g-1 with a capacity loss rate of 0.49‰ per cycle.

Mitochondria are key cytoplasmic organelles. Their activation is critical for the generation of T cell proliferation and cytotoxicity. Exhausted tumor‐infiltrating T cells show a decreased mitochondrial function and mass. 5‐Aminolevulinic acid (5‐ALA), a natural amino acid that is only produced in the mitochondria, has been shown to influence metabolic functions. We hypothesized that 5‐ALA with sodium ferrous citrate (SFC) might provide metabolic support for tumor‐infiltrating T cells. In a mouse melanoma model, we found that 5‐ALA/SFC with a programmed cell death‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1) blocking Ab synergized tumor regression. After treatment with 5‐ALA/SFC and anti‐PD‐L1 Ab, tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) were not only competent for the production of cytolytic particles and cytokines (granzyme B, interleukin‐2, and γ‐interferon) but also showed enhanced Ki‐67 activity (a proliferation marker). The number of activated T cells (PD‐1+Tim‐3−) was also significantly increased. Furthermore, we found that 5‐ALA/SFC activated the mitochondrial functions, including the oxygen consumption rate, ATP level, and complex V expression. The mRNA levels of Nrf‐2, HO‐1, Sirt‐1, and PGC‐1α and the protein levels of Sirt‐1 were upregulated by treatment with 5‐ALA/SFC. Taken together, our findings revealed that 5‐ALA/SFC could be a key metabolic regulator in exhausted T cell metabolism and suggested that 5‐ALA/SFC might synergize with anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 therapy to boost the intratumoral efficacy of tumor‐specific T cells. Our study not only revealed a new aspect of immune metabolism, but also paved the way to develop a strategy for combined anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 cancer immunotherapy., Exhausted T cells have decreased effector and proliferation function. We found that the mRNA levels of the Nrf‐2, HO‐1, Sirt‐1, and PGC‐1α and the protein levels of Sirt‐1 were upregulated by treatment with 5‐aminolevulinic acid (5‐ALA)/sodium ferrous ion (SFC). The enforced expression of PGC‐1α in activated T cells rescued their effector function and enhanced the efficacy of the mitochondrial function. Our findings revealed that 5‐ALA/SFC could be a key metabolic regulator in exhausted T cell metabolism and suggested that 5‐ALA/SFC might synergize with anti‐programmed cell death‐1/programmed cell death‐ligand 1 therapy to boost the intratumoral efficacy of tumor‐specific T cells. ​

Biotrickling filters (BTFs) for hydrophobic chlorobenzene (CB) purification are limited by mass transfer and biodegradation. The CB mass transfer rate could be improved by 150 mg/L rhamnolipids. This study evaluated the combined use of Fe3+ and Zn2+ to enhance biodegradation in a BTF over 35 day. The effects of these trace elements were analysed under different inlet concentrations (250, 600, 900, and 1200 mg/L) and empty bed residence times (EBRTs; 60, 45, and 32 sec). Batch experiments showed that the promoting effects of Fe3+/Zn2+ on microbial growth and metabolism were highest for 3 mg/L Fe3+ and 2 mg/L Zn2+, followed by 2 mg/L Zn2+, and lowest at 3 mg/L Fe3+. Compared to BTF in the absence of Fe3+ and Zn2+, the average CB elimination capacity and removal efficiency in the presence of Fe3+ and Zn2+ increased from 61.54 to 65.79 g/(m3⋅hr) and from 80.93% to 89.37%, respectively, at an EBRT of 60 sec. The average removal efficiency at EBRTs of 60, 45, and 32 sec increased by 2.89%, 5.63%, and 11.61%, respectively. The chemical composition (proteins (PN), polysaccharides (PS)) and functional groups of the biofilm were analysed at 60, 81, and 95 day. Fe3+ and Zn2+ significantly enhanced PN and PS secretion, which may have promoted CB adsorption and biodegradation. High-throughput sequencing revealed the promoting effect of Fe3+ and Zn2+ on bacterial populations. The combination of Fe3+ and Zn2+ with rhamnolipids was an efficient method for improving CB biodegradation in BTFs.

The use of Indocyanine Green (ICG) as a fluorescent marker at Near Infrared (NIR) excitation wavelengths is well established in clinical imaging. Typical systems comprise multiple LED sources for optimal imaging which can result in unnecessary energy transfer to patients and contribute to tissue damage. An experimental setup comprising a 780 nm excitation channel generating up to 10 mW of optical power is used in order to determine if there is potential to exploit the optical properties of ICG, in order to reduce the total excitation power through pulsing. We demonstrate in this work that a single 1.6 Megapixel CMOS camera with quantum efficiency of less than 30% is appropriate to capture both fluorescent and non-fluorescent landmarks at NIR wavelengths. Experimental results verify that all ICG solutions tested yielded detectable fluorescence and that degradation of fluorescence intensity over time is multifaceted.

Fungal pigments are important natural products with a wide range of applications. In this study, the purple-red pigment produced by the fungus Paecilomyces lilacinus TD16 (TD16 pigment) was separated with acidulated ethyl acetate and purified by silica gel column chromatography. Results of UV-visible spectrum and HPLC analyses showed that TD16 pigment is a new polyketide pigment with three absorption peaks at 228, 272 and 527 nm and a retention time of 11.4665 min distinct from those of other Paecilomyces-sourced pigments. Results of kinetic analysis and antimicrobial activity assay showed that TD16 pigment is a non-growth-associated secondary products with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity on both bacteria and fungi and thus of potential application in industry.

J-aggregation is an efficient strategy for the development of fluorescent imaging agents in the second near-infrared window. However, the design of the second near-infrared fluorescent J-aggregates is challenging due to the lack of suitable J-aggregation dyes. Herein, we report meso-[2.2]paracyclophanyl-3,5-bis-N,N-dimethylaminostyrl BODIPY (PCP-BDP2) as an example of BODIPY dye with J-aggregation induced the second near-infrared fluorescence. PCP-BDP2 shows an emission maximum at 1010 nm in the J-aggregation state. Mechanism studies reveal that the steric and conjugation effect of the PCP group on the BODIPY play key roles in the J-aggregation behavior and photophysical properties tuning. Notably, PCP-BDP2 J-aggregates can be utilized for lymph node imaging and fluorescence-guided surgery in the nude mouse, which demonstrates their potential clinical application. This study demonstrates BODIPY dye as an alternate J-aggregation platform for developing the second near-infrared imaging agents., J-aggregation has been proved to be an efficient strategy for the development of fluorescent imaging agents in the NIR-II spectral region but the design of appropriate J-aggregates is challenging. Here, the authors demonstrate J-aggregation of a BODIPY dye with NIR-II emission and demonstrate lymph node imaging for fluorescence guided surgery.

Objective: Zinc-modified titanium materials have been widely applied in oral implants, among them, our previous studies have also successfully prepared a novel acid-etched micro-structured titanium surface modified with zinc-containing nanowires (Ti-NW-Zn). However, there are very few reports concerned about the biological safeties of zinc ions released from material surface and the appropriate concentration range of released zinc ions which was more conducive to angiogenesis and bone regeneration. Danio rerio (Zebrafish) represents a powerful alternative in vivo model to study both angiogenesis and osteogenesis. Then, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of zinc ions released from Ti-NW-Zn surfaces on angiogenesis and osteogenesis via zebrafish model, and further revealed the relationship between angiogenesis and osteogenesis via HUVECs and MC3T3-E1s in vitro models.Materials and methods: Tg (Fli‐1:EGFP)y1 zebrafish embryos were used to investigate the in vivo angiogenesis exposure to zinc ions, Wild-type Zebrafish (Danio rerio) adult fish and their embryos were used to investigate the in vivo bone regeneration and survival rate. Cell experiments including proliferation, adhesion, osteogenic differentiation and signaling pathway experiments were carried out by CCK-8, Laser scanning confocal microscope and Western blot, etc. Zinc ion release assay was detected by a Zinc assay kit.Results: The zinc ions released from Ti-NW-Zn surfaces were far lower than median lethal concentrations (LCs) of both embryos and adult fish, which was beneficial to osteogenesis and angiogenesis promotion of zebrafish model. Moreover, the appropriate concentration range of zinc ions was 1-2 ppm in vitro models, which could induce HUVECs proliferations, and the conditioned medium (CM) collected from the supernatant of 1-2 ppm zinc ions-induced HUVECs medium could obviously promote MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts behaviors via activated the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway.Conclusion: Zinc ions released from Ti-NW-Zn surfaces was at a biological safe and appropriate concentration, which could promote the angiogenesis and osteogenesis in vivo and vitro. The positive effects of the appropriate concentration of zinc ions on osteoblast behaviors might be regulated by activating the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway.

Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD‐1), an immune checkpoint receptor expressed by activated T, B, and NK cells, is a well‐known target for cancer immunotherapy. Tislelizumab (BGB‐A317) is an anti‐PD‐1 antibody that has recently been approved for treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma and urothelial carcinoma. Here, we show that tislelizumab displayed remarkable antitumor efficacy in a B16F10/GM‐CSF mouse model. Structural biology and Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analyses revealed unique epitopes of tislelizumab, and demonstrated that the CC′ loop of PD‐1, a region considered to be essential for binding to PD‐1 ligand 1 (PD‐L1) but not reported as targeted by other therapeutic antibodies, significantly contributes to the binding of tislelizumab. The binding surface of tislelizumab on PD‐1 overlaps largely with that of the PD‐L1. SPR analysis revealed the extremely slow dissociation rate of tislelizumab from PD‐1. Both structural and functional analyses align with the observed ability of tislelizumab to completely block PD‐1/PD‐L1 interaction, broadening our understanding of the mechanism of action of anti‐PD‐1 antibodies., We evaluated the antitumor efficacy of tislelizumab (BGB‐A317), an approved anti‐PD‐1 antibody. Its critical epitopes were investigated by both structural biology and SPR studies, and the CC′ loop of PD‐1 was discovered to be a novel targetable region for anti‐PD‐1 antibodies. To investigate the epidemic profile and genetic diversity of porcine bocavirus (PBoV), 281 clinical samples, including 236 intestinal tissue samples and 45 fecal samples were collected from diarrheic piglets on 37 different pig farms in central China, and two SYBR Green I-based quantitative PCR assays were developed to detect PBoV1/2 and PBoV3/4/5, respectively. One hundred forty-eight (52.67%) of the 281 clinical samples were positive for PBoV1/2, 117 (41.63%) were positive for PBoV3/4/5, 55 (19.57%) were positive for both PBoV1/2 and PBoV3/4/5, and 86.49% (32/37) of the pig farms were positive for PBoV. Overall, the prevalence of PBoV was 74.73% (210/281) in central China. Subsequently, nearly full-length genomic sequences of two PBoV strains (designated CH/HNZM and PBoV-TY) from two different farms were determined. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that the two PBoV strains obtained in this study belonged to the PBoV G2 group and had a close relationship to 10 other PBoV G2 strains but differed genetically from PBoV G1, PBoV G3, and seven other bocaviruses. CH/HNZM and PBoV-TY were closely related to the PBoV strain GD18 (KJ755666), which may be derived from the PBoV strains 0912/2012 (MH558677) and 57AT-HU (KF206160) through recombination. Compared with reference strain ZJD (HM053694)-China, more amino acid variation was found in the NS1 proteins of CH/HNZM and PBoV-TY. These data extend our understanding of the molecular epidemiology and evolution of PBoV.

One of the most commonly used membranes for water treatment applications is polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes prepared using the non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Unfortunately, these membranes suffer from low permeances. The newly discovered combined crystallisation and diffusion (CCD) method, based on a unidirectional freezing approach, is a promising alternative to the NIPS method to make high-performance PVDF membranes. This work applies a novel but simple dual-casting technique to the CCD membranes, to substantially breach the limits of permeation performance set by the industry-favourite NIPS membranes without sacrificing the membranes’ separation capabilities. Using this technique, one can tailor the specific properties of a CCD membranes’ separation and support layers, by merely changing the dope compositions of the two cast layers. This is the first time that a technique such as this is so simple yet effective in producing pristine PVDF membranes with pure water permeances as high as 2400 LMH bar−1 and mean flow pore sizes as small as around 30 nm. The high permeances of these novel membranes will considerably improve the technological and economic feasibility of many ultrafiltration processes such as wastewater treatment and drinking water production.

Developing highly efficient and economical bifunctional catalysts for overall water splitting is challenging but a great concern for the renewable energy conversion and applied catalysis towards a sustainable development. Herein, by employing first principles calculations, the catalytic performance of various transition metal (TM) atoms supported on single-layer ternary Ga2FeS4 for water splitting has been systematically investigated. Strikingly, it was evidenced that the sandwich Ga2FeS4 can form a tunable interfacial polarization field under external strain, which can effectively regulate its catalytic performance. Specifically, Au-Ga2FeS4 under a 0.5% tensile strain presents good bifunctional catalytic performance, with the low overpotentials of 0.03 and 0.48 eV, respectively, for the HER and OER, outperforming the experimentally identified Pt and IrO2. Considering the massive possibilities of these ternary substrates and the easily accessible characteristic of external strain, the findings highlighted here can provide a useful theoretical guideline for designing efficient bifunctional SACs in overall water splitting.

Dystocia is a serious problem for pregnant women, and it increases the cesarean section rate. Although uterine dysfunction has an unknown etiology, it is responsible for cesarean delivery and clinical dystocia, resulting in neonatal morbidity and mortality; thus, there is an urgent need for novel therapeutic agents. Previous studies indicated that statins, which inhibit the mevalonate (MVA) pathway of cholesterol synthesis, can reduce the incidence of preterm birth, but the safety of statins for pregnant women has not been thoroughly evaluated. Therefore, to unambiguously examine the function of the MVA pathway in pregnancy and delivery, we employed a genetic approach by using myometrial cell-specific deletion of geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase (Ggps1) mice. We found that Ggps1 deficiency in myometrial cells caused impaired uterine contractions, resulting in disrupted embryonic placing and dystocia. Studies of the underlying mechanism suggested that Ggps1 is required for uterine contractions to ensure successful parturition by regulating RhoA prenylation to activate the RhoA/Rock2/p-MLC pathway. Our work indicates that perturbing the MVA pathway might result in problems during delivery for pregnant females, but modifying protein prenylation with supplementary farnesyl pyrophosphate or geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate might be a strategy to avoid side effects.

Direct arylation methods have been used to polymerize thienylmethylene oxindoles (TEIs) and 3,3-bis[[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]methyl]-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno-[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin (ProDOT) for new donor-acceptor conjugated polymers. The polymers exhibited blue hues in neutral-state with distinct color-to-transmissive reversible electrochromic switching under applied potentials from 0 V to +1.5 V, and showed high coloration efficiencies (436–438 cm2·C−1) in near-infrared regions with high switching speeds around 1–2 s under ambient conditions.

This paper performs an experimental evaluation of thermolysis-driven gases generated by the thermal decomposition of 1 M LiPF6+EC/DMC=1:1 v:v electrolytes at various decomposition temperatures, pyrolysis durations, and oxygen concentrations. Carried out in a home-built autoclave filled with pure helium, the experiment reveals that as the decomposition temperature increases, more types and larger quantities of gases will be released. Specifically, the experimental results demonstrate trends of logistic growth in the volume concentration of CO2, C2H6O, C2H4, CO, and C2H4O2 with the increase of decomposition temperature. With a prolonged pyrolysis duration, while volume concentrations of certain gases, such as CO2, C2H6O, C2H5F, and CO would increase, the concentration of C2H4O2 actually decreases. Moreover, concentrations of both C2H4 and C2H5F will first decrease and reach their minimum values at 1% v/v oxygen concentration, and then they would quickly climb back at higher oxygen concentrations, while the concentrations of C2H6 and C2H3F would decrease monotonically. It is envisioned that the detailed experimental results and findings on the gas generation pattern of 1 M LiPF6+EC/DMC=1:1 v:v electrolytes can facilitate the development of an early warning mechanism of thermal runaway based on gas sensing technology, which can be effectively applied to monitor the potential thermal failures of lithium-ion batteries with the same type of electrolyte and thus promote the thermal safety of battery packs in safety-critical applications.

NiFe alloy (NFA) nanoparticles decorated Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) type layered perovskite structure Pr0.8Sr1.2(NiFe)O4-δ (RP-PSNF) have been fabricated by in-situ reduction of cubic perovskite Pr0.32Sr0.48Ni0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (P–PSNF) in H2 at 800 °C. When used as the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) anode material, the RP-PSNF-NFA based ceramic anode demonstrates a comparable catalytic activity to Ni-based anode. The SOFC single cell with RP-PSNF-NFA-Gd0.2Ce0.8O2−δ (GDC) anode exhibits a maximum power density of 983 and 770 mW cm−2 in humidified H2 and C3H8 at 800 °C, respectively. More importantly, the single cell shows a high durability at the current density of 250 mA cm−2 in humidified C3H8 at 800 °C, demonstrating an excellent coking resistance. Overall, this work suggests that RP-PSNF-NFA is a promising anode for direct hydrocarbon fuel SOFCs.

(S)-(-)-N-[2-(3-Hydroxy-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-3-yl)-ethyl]-acetamide (EA), a new compound isolated from the plant Selaginella pulvinata, has been identified to possess anti-proliferative effects against SK-mel-110 cells in vitro via upregulating the expression of inhibitor of growth family member 4. The present study aimed to investigate whether EA could exert antitumor effects against colon cancer. The results revealed that EA exerted anti-proliferative effects against a broad spectrum of different types of tumor and could induce apoptosis of colon cancer cells via the signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 pathway. It was demonstrated that treating tumor-bearing mice with EA significantly inhibited colon tumor growth in a xenograft tumor model and syngeneic tumor model. Furthermore, EA treatment reshaped the tumor microenvironment by decreasing myeloid-derived suppressor cell accumulation and increasing the tumor infiltrating lymphocytes. The results from the present study suggest that EA could be developed as a potential antitumor drug against colon cancer.

Background Phytoestrogens have a similar molecular structure to estrogens which can produce either estrogenic or anti-estrogenic effects. It is generally believed that phytoestrogens combine with the estrogen receptor of osteosarcoma cells, affecting a variety of signal transduction pathways and cell metabolism, resulting in altered cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, invasion and migration ability. Formononetin (FN) is the active ingredient of traditional Chinese medicine astragalus, angelica, and Pueraria lobate. Our study aims to detect the role of FN on MG-63 cell viability and apoptosis through regulating phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) expression via MicroRNA-214-3p (miR-214-3p). Methods 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and Caspase 3 assay evaluated cell viability and apoptosis, respectively. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot evaluated the mRNA and protein expressions, respectively. The binding site of miR-214-3p/PTEN was detected via dual luciferase assay. Results FN suppressed cell viability and induced apoptosis, and decreased miR-214-3p level and promoted PTEN expression. PTEN was then regarded as a target of miR-214-3p, and FN improved PTEN level via inhibiting miR-214-3p. Further analysis showed that overexpressed miR-214-3p improved cell viability and suppressed apoptosis of MG-63 cells by inhibiting PTEN expression. Conclusions Finally, our results revealed that FN inhibited cell viability and induced apoptosis by regulating miR-214-3p. FN acted as a new treatment for MG-63 cells via increasing PTEN level by inhibiting the miR-214-3p level.
