This study investigated the hypolipidemic effects of curcumin, cinnamon, vitamin C and simvastatin in male rabbits. The hypolipidemic effect of these materials were assessed by following the effects on body weight, the lipid profile and liver enzymes. The lipid profile includes total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL). The liver activities enzymes include aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in serum. Highly significant increases in lipid profile parameters of rabbit group were found in rabbits fed with high lipid diet only over the respective values in the control group. Liver function profile showed a significant increase in this group as compared to those in the control group. The groups treated with curcumin, cinnamon, vitamin C and simvastatin showed a variable significant decrease in lipid profile in this order: cinnamon > vitamin C > simvastatin > curcumin and in liver functions profile in this order: curcumin > simvastatin > vitamin C > cinnamon. Groups treated with these materials showed significant body loss as compared to untreated rabbits in this order: cinnamon > curcumin > vitamin C > simvastatin.

Effect of the ISE membrane composition on the characteristics of the tramadol–PVC-electrodes has been investigated. The parameters studied include the effect of the plasticizer and the effect of the ion-pair complex. The plasticizers used were 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (2-NPOE), dioctyl phthalate (DOP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEPh), dioctyl sebacate (DOS), tributyl phosphate (TBPh) and dibutyl butyl phosphonate (DBBPh) and the ion-pair complexes were tramadolium–silicotungstate (TD–ST), silicomolybdate (TD–SM). These electrodes were fully characterized in terms of composition, life span, usable pH range and working concentration range. The results showed that the best combination was TD–ST as the ion-pair complex and DBP as the plasticizer that produced the electrode with favorable characteristics. Another electrode using TD–SM was tested and produced close results. The present electrodes show clear discrimination of tramadol hydrochloride from several inorganic, organic ions, sugars and some common drug excipients. The sensors were applied for determination of tramadol hydrochloride in urine, milk and pharmaceutical preparations using potentiometric determination, standard addition and the calibration curve methods. The results obtained were satisfactory with excellent percentage recovery comparable and sometimes better than those obtained by other routine methods for the assay.

A simple, rapid and sensitive method for the determination of tramadol hydrochloride in urine, milk and pharmaceutical preparations using two modified carbon paste electrodes was developed. One electrode (sensor A) is based on ion-association of tramadol hydrochloride with phosphotungstic acid (TD-PT) and the other (sensor B) with a mixture of phosphotungstic acid (TD-PT) and silicomolybdic acid (TD-SM). Among seven different solvent mediators tested, 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE) exhibited a proper behavior including Nernstian slopes of the calibration curve at 57.8 ± 0.4 and 56.5 ± 0.8 mV per decade for sensors A and B. The response times were 8 and 5 s; detection limits 6.2 × 10−6 and 1.8 × 10−6 M; the concentration range 9.2 × 10−6 to 1.0 × 10−1 M and 5.5 × 10−6 to 1.0 × 10−1 M respectively. The present electrodes show good discrimination of tramadol hydrochloride from several inorganic, organic ions, sugars and some common drug excipients. The sensors were applied for the determination of tramadol hydrochloride in urine, milk and pharmaceutical preparations using potentiometric determination, standard addition and the calibration curve methods. The aim of this study was to determine the level of toxicity of nitrosamine on some biochemical and hematological parameters and the curative effect of olive oil and ephedra extract on domestic 24 male rabbits divided into four groups, each with different doses which were applied for 33 days. In the present study, olive oil and ephedra administration with nitrosamine reduced its induced harm in a significant way. These finding suggest that olive oil, effectively, reduces nitrosamine-induced toxicity more than ephedra, and generally, their use concomitantly with nitrosamine have an extremely beneficial role in overcoming the adverse effects occurring due to chronic ingestion of nitrosamines.

A potentiometric tramadol-selective electrode based on the ion-association of tramadol hydrochloride (TDCl) with phosphomolybdic acid (TD-PM) is developed. The electrode exhibits a Nernstian slope of 58.3±0.7 mV/decade for tramadol ions in the concentration range 2.0 × 10 -6 - 1.0 × 10 -1 M with the limit of detection of 1.3 × 10 -6 M. The electrode has a fast and stable response time 5-8 s, good reproducibility and it can be used in pH range of 1.8-6.1. The present electrode show good discrimination of tramadol hydrochloride from several inorganic, organic ions, sugars and some common drug excipients. These characteristics of the electrode enable it to be used successfully for determination of tramadol hydrochloride in its pharmaceutical preparations and biological fl uids (urine and milk).

The electrochemical removal of tramadol hydrochloride from aqueous solutions has been investigated under several operating conditions using a Pb/PbO2 electrode. The optimum conditions of the treatment process are: current density of 1000 mA/cm−2, pH ≈6, temperature of 10 °C and initial tramadol hydrochloride concentration of 100 mg/L. The time of electrolysis is 25 min for degradation rate of tramadol hydrochloride and chemical oxygen demeaned (COD) removal is 22 h. The results were obtained by UV–Vis spectrophotometer and the presently designed electrode was coincident.
