This study evaluates the difficulties in concept reasoning, changes in response patterns, and item misconception hydrolysis patterns using Rasch modeling. Data were collected through the development of 30 distractor-based diagnostic test items, measuring ten levels of conceptual reasoning ability in three types of salt hydrolysis compounds: Na[subscript 5]P[subscript 3]O[subscript 10], NaOCl and (NH[subscript 4])[subscript 2]SO[subscript 4]. These 30 written test items were completed by 849 students in Gorontalo, Indonesia. The findings show empirical evidence of the reliability and validity of the measurement. Further analysis found that the students' reasoning difficulty levels of the concept of saline solutions were varied; the calculation of saline solution's pH level is the most difficult construct to reason. In particular items, changes in response patterns were found; the misconception curve showed a declining trend and disappeared along with the increase of comprehension along the spectrum of students' abilities. The item misconceptions pattern was found repeatedly in similar items. This finding strengthens the conclusion that resistant misconceptions potentially tend to cause students' conceptual reasoning difficulties and are difficult to diagnose in conventional ways. This study contributes to developing ways of diagnosing resistant misconceptions and being a reference for teachers and researchers in evaluating students' chemical conceptual reasoning difficulties based on Rasch modeling.

The combination of heterocycles renders a new possibility to synthesize multicyclic compounds having improved biological activities. Furo[3,2-b]pyridine is a fused heterocyclic ring system comprising a furan ring attached at the third and second positions of pyridine. These heterocyclic compounds can be easily synthesized from versatile starting materials including pyridine, furan, benzofuran, and benzopyridine via cycloaddition, cycloisomerization, multicomponent, cross-coupling, and Dakin-type reactions by utilizing microwave, copper, and palladium based catalysts. Among the chemical transformations of furo[3,2-b]pyridine derivatives, the review covered acetylation, addition, condensation, chlorination, Suzuki coupling, Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, and nucleophilic substitution reactions. Furo[3,2-b]pyridine has attracted remarkable attention from researchers due to its wide range of pharmacological and biological applications as antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, anticancer, inhibitors of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, CLKs, e1F4A, DYRKIA, α-glucosidase and β-glucosidase. The purpose of the review is to discuss the chemistry of the title reported during 2019–2024.

The main purpose of this work is studying the linear Susceptibility in the hybrid nanostructure that composed of a dual quantum dot (DQD) and metal nanoparticle (MNP) hybrid system under a standing-wave field. In our model, we used density matrix equations by taking into our account the interaction between excitons and surface plasmons. The proposed DQD is composed of two QDs. Each QD contains an InAs QD with a disk shape. The interaction between the QD and the wetting layer (WL) is taken into consideration. The application of the standing wave field on DQD-MNP hybrid system was modeled and examined. The susceptibility of thehybridDQD-MNPsystem reduced by the pump field under a standing-wave field. The high susceptibility obtained with a wide MNP radius. An interesting result was shown in the inversion of the grating period with the tunneling component in the conduction band. The smaller size of DQD gave us high susceptibility due to the quantization effect.

Local bacterial infection remains an increasingly severe threat to human health worldwide, and infection control is still a challenging task. Carbon Quantum Dots (CQSs) and barium tungstate show antibacterial properties. CQDs doped Barium Tungstate (BaWO4) are synthesized by using a hydrothermal route and their optical and antimicrobial activities against the Gram-positive bacteria staphylococcus aureus and optical properties were investigated. The UV–Vis reveals a shift in the bandgap from 3.62 eV to 2.93 eV due to doping of CQDs in BaWO4. The structure of the CQDs/BaWO4 were studied by XRD, which shows CQDs doped BaWO4 samples possess tetragona4 werelite structure with the preferred orientation of (112) identified by XRD at 26° having crystallite size ∼ 31 nm. Nanocomposite BaWO4/CQDs exhibit a spherical-like shape and are composed of Ba, O, W and C according to the design of the experiment. Zeta sizer of CQDs by DLS shows the size of CQDs is 7.65 nm. The FT-IR shows the presence of functional groups in doped material like CC, CO, and COOH bonds which indicate that the C-dots are functionalized with epoxy, carbonyl, hydroxyl, and carboxylic acid groups. Their elemental composition and surface morphology were studied by EDS which shows the percentage variation of CQDs in BaWO4, SEM results show the change in shape of the sample by adding CQDs to BaWO4. The TEM image proves the presence of doped material in the BaWO4. The PL spectra reveals the emission spectra shift towards a higher wavelength and absorption increases. The qualitative analysis shows the antimicrobial activity and enlargement of the inhibition zone and quantitative analysis confirms it.

N-Arylpyrazoles are important building blocks in many biologically active compounds, natural products, pharmaceuticals, and industries. It is an important moiety of various drugs and exhibits extensive biological activities viz., antibiotic, anticancer, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulant, analgesic, antipyretic, anti-depressant, insecticidal, and hyperglycemic activities. Various protocols have been designed for the synthesis of N-arylpyrazoles facilitated by a wide variety of metal-based catalysts at high or room temperature, metal free reactions, various named reactions, multicomponent reactions, and those occurring under different electromagnetic radiations. Various ligands are found to promote Cu-catalyzed N-arylation of pyrazole under mild conditions in short time. This review describes the synthesis and biological applications of N-arylpyrazole derivatives reported during 2019–2023.

Graphene oxide nanosheets (GONs) are ideally suited for implementation in electrochemical applications due to their large electrical conductivity, large surface area and low production costs. In this research, electrochemical exfoliated graphene oxide-modified graphite electrode was developed for voltammetric determination of clozapine (CLZ). The dependence of oxidation peak current on the pH of the solution, scan rate and concentration of analyte were studied to optimize the experimental conditions for electrochemical determination of CLZ. The experimental results suggested that the modified electrode promoted electron transfer reaction for the oxidation of CLZ. The modified electrode exhibited high effective surface area, more reactive sites and excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of CLZ. In the concentration range of 0.75–100 µM of CLZ in citrate buffer solution (CBS, pH 6), the anodic peak currents, measured via differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), presented good linear relationship with limit of detection (LOD) of 2.15 nM and good sensitivity of 0.0477 µA µM−1. The proposed method was successfully applied to quantify the amount of CLZ in the blood serum and plasma of schizophrenia patient.

Ulva prolifera, known as Aonori in Japan, is an edible alga species that is mass-cultivated in Japan. Supplementation with Aonori-derived biomaterials has been reported to enhance metabolic health in previous studies. This was an experimental study that evaluated the metabolic health effects of NBF2, a formula made of algal and junos Tanaka citrus-derived biomaterials, on obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We used 18 obese and hyperglycemic Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats that were assigned randomly to three groups of six animals: a high-dose NBF2 drink (20 mg/kg) group, a low-dose (10 mg/kg) NBF2 drink group and the control group that received 2 mL of tap water daily for a total of six weeks. We also used eight LETO rats as the normal control group. In addition to the glucose tolerance test (OGTT), ELISA and real-time PCR assays were performed. High-dose and lowdose NBF2 improved insulin sensitivity, as well as glycemic and lipid profiles, as compared with control rats. The OGTT showed that both NBF2 groups and LETO rats had normalized glycemia by the 90-min time-point. NBF2 up-regulated PPARα/γ-mRNA and Sirt2-mRNA gene expressions in BAT and improved the blood pressure profile. These findings suggest that the NBF2 formula, which activates PPAR-α/γ mRNA and Sirt2-mRNA, may reverse dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia in T2DM.

Third-hand smoke (THS) has been recognized as a main exposure route to the chemical content of tobacco products. In the present study, potential exposure of people to primary aromatic amines (PAAs) release from indoor settled dusts in smoking and non-smoking cafés were studied for the first time. Nine compounds of PAAs in the indoor dust samples of waterpipe, cigarettes and non-smoking cafés in Bushehr were measured by using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The mean concentration levels of ∑PAAs released through settled indoor dusts of waterpipe, cigarettes and non-smoking cafés were 728.23, 331.37 and 66.11 ng g−1, respectively. The results showed that the mean concentration levels of ∑PAAs were ranked as: waterpipe cafés ˃ cigarette cafés ˃ non-smoking cafés. Among the measured PAAs, aniline (ANL) and 2, 6-dimethylaniline (2, 6-DMA) have the highest levels. The findings also showed that the levels of PAAs had a negative and significant relationship (P

Exogenously applied trehalose is effective for improving plant tolerance to some abiotic stresses, but whether it has function in alleviating maize (Zea mays) tolerance to chromium (Cr) stress is unknown. This study investigated the effects of exogenous application of trehalose (0, 25 and 50 mM) on the growth, physiological parameters and oxidative defense systems of maize seedlings exposed to chromium (Cr) stress at the rate of 100 and 500 µM. Our results depicted that Cr stress reduced plant growth, biomass, leaf chlorophyll contents, transpiration rate, photosynthetic properties, stomatal conductance and antioxidant enzymes. The Cr-induced increase was observed in oxidative defense system, malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide contents and membrane leakage. Although, activities of POD, SOD and CAT enzymes, total phenolics and proline concentrations increased at 100 µM Cr but were significantly diminished at 500 µM compared to non-Cr plants. However, the negative impacts of Cr on plant growth and physiological traits were reduced by the foliar application of trehalose. Trehalose significantly enhanced plant biomass, improved photosynthetic apparatus and antioxidants in addition to ascorbic acid, free proline, GB and total phenolic compounds. The application of trehalose diminished the exudation of organic acids and indicator of oxidative stress in roots and shoots by decreasing Cr retention in plant parts. The findings suggest that 50 mM trehalose spray efficiently mitigated the Cr toxicity in maize plants as compared to 25 m trehalose spray. However, the exogenous application of trehalose alleviated Cr toxicity by regulating Cr uptake in plant tissues by enhancing the antioxidative defense system.

Ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (ENPP1) regulates skeletal and soft tissue mineralization by hydrolyzing nucleotide triphosphates and cyclic nucleotides, and is involved in the modulation of immune system. In fact, ENPP1 degrades 2′,3′-cyclic GMP-AMP dinucleotide (2′,3′-cGAMP), which is an agonist of surface receptor stimulator of interferon genes (STING), thus downregulating immune response. Consequently, ENPP1 inhibitors are being studied as adjuvant agents in infections and cancer. Pistacia chinensis is a medicinal plant endowed with several biological activities and traditional uses. In the current study, we report the isolation of transilitin (2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-7,8-dihydroxy-3-methoxychromen-4-one) from the methanolic extract of P. chinensis barks and the investigation of its activity as ENPP1 inhibitor. The compound was tested in vitro against snake venom phosphodiesterase, which is structurally related to ENPP1, and dose-dependently inhibited the enzyme. Moreover, molecular modeling studies were employed to assess the binding motif of the transilitin with the macromolecular target. Our findings support the traditional medical application of P. chinensis and its extracts by shedding new light on the mechanisms underlying their biological action.

The present study was aimed to identify the indigenous fungal strains which could possibly be applied to the biore-mediation of heavy metal-contaminated soil. The contaminated soil samples of Korangi Industrial Estate Karachi were found to have total concentration of Cu 1.044 mgL1, and Pb 0.631 mgL–1. A total of eight indigenous strains of the fungus were isolated and screened for bioremediation capacity from heavy metals-contaminated soil. For the bioremediation of Lead (Pb) these same indigenous eight fungal strains were used for biological remediation. All the fungal isolated with enhanced bioremediation capability were through phenotypic and genotypical characterization. The topology of the phylograms established that the fungal isolates used in this study were allocated to: K1 (Penicillium notatum), K2 (Aspergillus parasiticus), K3 (Aspergillus fumigatus), K4 (Aspergillus flavus), K5 (Aspergillus terries), K6 (Fusarium solani), K7 (Penicillium chrysogenum), K8 (Aspergillus niger), K9 (Penicillium piceum) and K10 (Penicillium restrictum). Thus, K8 fungal isolate was found to be more efficient with maximum bioremediation capacity, for copper and lead removal efficiency, and selected for FTIR and SEM to find out the uptake of Cu and Pb which of the functional groups are involved, and further to detect the effects of bioleaching of both heavy metals on to the surface of K8 fungus biomass. The current study indicates that indigenous fungal isolates could be used with high potency to remediate or clean up the heavy metals-contaminated soil either by the technique of in situ or ex-situ bioremediation.

Gallic acid is recognized as a notable bioactive compound among secondary polyphenolic metabolites. In the current study, gallic acid-enriched extracts were obtained from mango peels using different solvents (ethanol or water) via ultrasound-assisted extraction, and optimized yields were compared with the conventional extraction technique (decoction). Independent variables for the optimization through response surface methodology were ethanol concentration (0–60%), solvent ratio (10–50 mL/g), temperature (30–60℃), and time (10–30 min) for ethanolic extraction. However, extraction carried out by using water had extraction conditions of pH (2–8), solvent ratio (20–0 mL/g), extraction temperature (40–70℃), and time (30–60 min). The optimized yield of gallic acid obtained through ethanol was 5.75 ± 0.21 mg/g, whereas 3.14 ± 0.24 mg/g of gallic acid was quantified in extraction through water. The results were compared with the aforementioned conventional method of decoction, and it was concluded that the ethanolic extracts of mango peels showed the highest gallic acid yield and total flavonoid contents. The obtained extracts could be a potential source of polyphenolics, especially gallic acid, for use in nutraceuticals as well as in other food applications.

The widespread use of antibiotics has resulted in the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Therefore, it is essential to explore alternative strategies to effectively combat medically significant resistant pathogens. In recent years, nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a promising alternative source of antimicrobial agents. While nanoscale particles were traditionally synthesized using chemical techniques, the development of metallic NPs using biological methods has garnered attention. This current study focuses on the synthesis of iron NPs (Fe NPs) using metal-tolerant fungal strains, as numerous microorganisms serve as environmentally safe and durable precursors to produce persistent and bi-functional NPs. The study involved the isolation and evaluation of ten fungal strains that are resistant to heavy metals to determine their ability to produce Fe NPs. The biologically synthesized Fe NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy techniques. The XRD results indicated the presence of Fe in nanopowder form, displaying a series of reflection angles (2θ) at 65° and 75° indicating the existence of cubic planes. EDX analysis revealed the presence of ferrous and ferric elements, along with zero-valent Fe NPs. Micrographs of the surface topology displayed spherical aggregation of the synthesized NPs. Furthermore, the Fe NPs exhibited promising antibacterial potential against selected bacterial strains, including Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Cronobacter sakazakii, Listeria innocua, and Enterococcus fecalis. This study demonstrates that the biological synthesis of metallic NPs is environmentally safe, and Fe NPs produced through mycological means could be utilized to combat antibiotic-resistant pathogenic strains.

The autonomic nervous system plays a key role in maintaining body hemostasis through both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Sympathetic overstimulation as a reflex to multiple pathologies, such as septic shock, brain injury, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac arrest, could be harmful and lead to autonomic and immunologic dysfunction. The continuous stimulation of the beta receptors on immune cells has an inhibitory effect on these cells and may lead to immunologic dysfunction through enhancing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-10 (IL-10), and inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory factors, such as interleukin-1B IL-1B and tissue necrotizing factor-alpha (TNF-alpha). Sympathetic overstimulation-induced autonomic dysfunction may also happen due to adrenergic receptor insensitivity or downregulation. Administering anti-adrenergic medication, such as beta-blockers, is a promising treatment to compensate against the undesired effects of adrenergic surge. Despite many misconceptions about beta-blockers, beta-blockers have shown a promising effect in decreasing mortality in patients with critical illness. In this review, we summarize the recently published articles that have discussed using beta-blockers as a promising treatment to decrease mortality in critically ill patients, such as patients with septic shock, traumatic brain injury, cardiogenic shock, acute decompensated heart failure, and electrical storm. We also discuss the potential pathophysiology of beta-blockers in various types of critical illness. More clinical trials are encouraged to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of beta-blockers in improving mortality among critically ill patients.

The extensive use of single-atom catalysts (SACs) has appeared as a significant area of investigation in contemporary study. The single-atom catalyst, characterized by its maximum atomic proficiency and great discernment of the transition-metal center, has a unique combination of benefits from both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. Consequently, it effectively bridges the gap between these two types of catalysts, leveraging their distinctive features. The utilization of SACs immobilized on graphene substrates has garnered considerable interest, primarily because of their capacity to facilitate selective and efficient photocatalytic processes. This review aims to comprehensively summarize the progress and potential uses of SACs made from graphene in photocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction and hydrogen (H2) generation. The focus is on their contribution to converting solar energy into chemical energy. The present study represents the various preparation methods and characterization approaches of graphene-based single-atom photocatalyst This review investigates the detailed mechanisms underlying these photocatalytic processes and discusses recent studies that have demonstrated remarkable H2 production rates through various graphene-based single-atom photocatalysts. Additionally, the pivotal roleof theoretical simulations, likedensity functional theory (DFT), to understand the structural functional relationships of these SACs are discussed. The potential of graphene-based SACs to revolutionize solar-to-chemical energy conversion through photocatalytic CO2 reduction and H2 production is underscored, along with addressing challenges and outlining future directions for this developing area of study. By shedding light on the progress and potential of these catalysts, this review contributes to the collective pursuit of sustainable and efficient energy conversion strategies to mitigate the global climate crisis.

The functional characteristics of starch can be altered by shear force, which makes the impact on its microstructure of great importance to the food industry. This study investigated the effects of freeze-drying on the gel texture, pasting capabilities, and swelling power of starches made from sweet potatoes (SP), chickpeas (CP), and wheat (WS) combined with Cordia (CG) and Ziziphus gum (ZG). The samples were annealed in water without shearing and in a rapid visco-analyzer (RVA) for 30 min at 60 °C while being spun at 690 rpm. Both native and freeze-dried samples were mixed with 1% or 3% ZG and CG. After annealing, the starches were examined using a texture analyzer and RVA. The results showed that freeze-drying had a substantial (p > 0.05) impact on the starch granule, in addition to the effect of annealing. The peak viscosity of freeze-dried native CP and SP starches increased, but the peak viscosity of freeze-dried wheat starch decreased. The setbacks for CP and WS increased, whereas the setbacks for SP varied slightly. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that annealing in an RVA exhibited a substantially lower peak viscosity than annealing in a water bath; the RVA’s shearing effect may have been the cause of this difference. Cordia gum fared better than ZG in terms of peak viscosity, although ZG significantly reduced setback in comparison to CG. Among the various blends, the native WB sample had the lowest hardness (100 ± 4.9 g), while the freeze-dried WB SP sample had the greatest (175.5 ± 4.8 g). Shearing of starches broke up the granules into smaller pieces, which made them gel at lower temperatures. This could be a good thing when they are needed for food uses that require little cooking.

Citrus waste has been used as a source of bioplastics for research in different ways. Because the juice industry produces significant amounts of residue each year, it would be advantageous to use the byproducts in the creation of new materials. Researchers have long explored eco-friendly methods to convert citrus and other organic waste into polymers for producing biodegradable films. The goal of this study is to create biofilms from orange waste (OW) and ginger waste (GW) using an ultrafine grinder and study the films’ properties. Since pectin has the ability to gel, and because cellulosic fibers are strong, citrus waste has been studied for its potential to produce biofilms. After being washed, dried, and milled, orange and ginger waste was shaped into films using a casting process. Tensile testing was used to determine the mechanical properties of biofilms, while dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to determine their thermal properties. As the number of grinding cycles increased, the suspension’s viscosity increased from 29 mPa.s to 57 mPa.s for OW and from 217 mPa.s to 376 mPa.s for GW, while the particle size in the suspension significantly decreased. For OW and GW films, the highest tensile strength was 17 MPa and 15 MPa, respectively. The maximum strain obtained among all films was 4.8%. All the tested films were stable up to 150 °C, and maximum degradation occured after 300 °C.

This study presents a comprehensive overview of the solar industry’s transition towards resilient energy solutions, emphasizing the critical role of data-driven practices in driving this transition through responsible resource management. As continuous technological refinement is essential to optimize solar energy’s potential, the smart use of available data plays a significant part in enhancing the accessibility of solar panels. Building upon prior research investigating the influence of Big Data on solar logistics, this paper proposes a hybrid Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methodology based on expert experience, providing practical support in the implementation of data-driven proactive measures within the solar industry. Specifically, this study focuses on measures aimed at effectively implementing two main logistic strategies, which are Route Optimization (RO) and Warehouse Management (WM). A rigorous analysis of criteria and measures considered to be relevant in the literature is first conducted. Criteria will be screened and weighted to eventually act as drivers toward measure assessment and prioritization. A final sensitivity analysis culminates in the formalization of findings and in the formulation of a pragmatic roadmap tailored for solar industry practitioners, designed to increase operational efficiency while integrating key sustainability principles across supply chain endeavors.

Having a comprehensive knowledge of phase equilibrium is advantageous for industrial simulation and design of chemical processes. For further acquisition of primary data to facilitate the separation and purification of waste oil biodiesel systems, a liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) tank is deployed for the ternary system of waste oil biodiesel + methanol + glycerin, thereby enhancing the precision and efficiency of the process. The phase equilibrium system was constructed under the influence of atmospheric pressure at precise temperatures of 303.15 K, 313.15 K, and 323.15 K. The equilibrium components of each substance were analyzed by employing high-temperature gas chromatography, a sophisticated analytical method that enables the identification and quantification of individual components of a sample. Moreover, the ternary liquid–liquid equilibrium data were correlated by implementing the NRTL and UNIQUAC activity coefficient models. Subsequently, the binary interaction parameters of the ternary system were derived by conducting regression analysis. The experimental data demonstrated that the presence of lower methanol content in the system resulted in nearly immiscible biodiesel and glycerol phases, which ultimately facilitated the separation of biodiesel and glycerol. Conversely, with the increase in methanol content, the mutual solubility of biodiesel and glycerol was observed to increase gradually. The results showed that the calculated values of the NRTL and UNIQUAC models aligned well with the experimental values. The root-mean-square deviations of the NRTL and UNIQUAC models at 313.15 K were 2.76% and 3.56%, respectively.

The physical and antibacterial properties of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) have been improved by adding copper nanoparticles (CuNP). The CuNP colloid was synthesized by reacting CuCl2·2H2O and NaBH4 as the reducing agent using C6H8O6 as the capping agent. The Cu(II) concentration was varied by 3.0, 6.0, and 9.0 mM to produce CuNP-3, CuNP-6, and CuNP-9 colloids, respectively. The CuNP colloids were characterized with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and TEM. MTA was hydrated with CuNP at a mass-to-volume ratio of 2:1 to produce Cu-MTA-3, Cu-MTA-6, and Cu-MTA-9, respectively. All products were characterized with XRD and SEM-EDX. The compressive strength, pH, Ca ion release, and solubility were measured, and antibacterial activity was tested. The results showed a spherical shape of the synthesized CuNP with a particle size of ~28.08 nm. Adding CuNP-9 to hydrated MTA increased the compressive strength, pH, Ca ion release, and solubility, with the value of 4.78±0.38 MPa; 9.01±0.03; 1718±63 ppm, and 22.48±0.37%, respectively. The highest antibacterial activity occurred for Cu-MTA-9, with an inhibition zone of 10.15±0.47 mm against S. aureus and 11.93±1.16 mm against P. aeruginosa. The findings show a potential application of the product for endodontic materials containing antibacterial agents.

The exponential growth and prominence of the essential oil industry was associated with the generation of large amounts of plant residues which, if not managed properly, present an environmental threat due to their ability to contaminate soil and water systems. This study focuses on the valorization of residues generated from oregano and citronella plants following essential oil extraction. To tackle this challenge, we investigated the potential of biochar of oregano and citronella residues for removing methyl orange dye, a common environmental pollutant, and assessed their phytotoxicity for potential applications as soil amendment. The biochar was produced at different pyrolysis temperatures (300 °C and 400 °C) to study the effect of temperature on the various physicochemical properties of the biochar. Several analytical techniques were used to characterize the generated biochar including Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive (EDX) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy. The efficiency of oregano and citronella biochars produced at different temperatures as soil amendment was evaluated by examining the germination and root development of Lepidium sativum seeds commonly known as garden cress. The control group displayed strong performance with 90–100 % germination and 3.54 cm root length. Oregano biochar obtained by pyrolysis at 300 °C (BOR-300) was toxic to seed growth, while the biochar fabricated at 400 °C (BOR-400) improved germination but fell short of the control. On the other hand, citronella biochar generated at 300 °C (BCR-300) and 400 °C (BCR-400) resulted in better germination compared to BOR, but still lagged behind the control group. Furthermore, our results demonstrated that citronella biochar (BCR) at 400 °C effectively removed 88.8 % of the methyl orange dye. Conversely, the combination of oregano biochar (BOR) and citronella biochar (BCR) at 300 °C did not substantially affect the dye removal efficiency. In summary, applying BOR and BCR produced at 400 °C to soil appears environmentally safe but does not significantly enhance plant growth. These results highlight the critical roles played by biochar type and pyrolysis temperature in shaping the application process.

The current study addressed the synthesis of thiazole-based thiazolidinone derivatives (1–18) using stepwise reaction processes, and their structure was confirmed using various characterization techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and HREI-MS. Furthermore, the biological features of these analogues as anti-cancer drugs against human cancer cell lines (HCC78 and H3122) were identified. Their inhibitory potentials were determined using the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (MIC50) in the presence of their standard drugs Tetrandrineb (IC50 = 10.70 ± 0.30 µM), respectively. Structure activity relationship (SAR) was established for all the synthesized scaffolds and compared their inhibitory potentials with standard, in which scaffolds 1 (IC50 = 5.20 ± 0.40 µM), 2 (IC50 = 4.10 ± 0.20 µM), 3 (IC50 = 6.30 ± 0.20 µM), 4 (IC50 = 8.90 ± 0.10 µM), 6 (IC50 = 8.10 ± 0.20 µM), 7 (IC50 = 8.70 ± 0.10 µM), 8 (IC50 = 3.90 ± 0.30 µM), 9 (IC50 = 2.10 ± 0.20 µM), 10 (IC50 = 3.30 ± 0.20 µM) and 16 (IC50 = 8.90 ± 0.20 µM) exhibited the most influential activity. These compounds were subsequently examined using molecular docking experiments, which evaluate the binding interactions of ligands with enzyme active sites.

The initial transmission effect on the activity of Cr+4: YAG saturable absorber with Er +3 doped fiber laser was investigated. Software computer program was built in this study for solving the rate equations model by Rung - Kutta –Fehlberg numerical method. The study reported that the absorption activity of ground state of saturable absorber decreases with the decreasing of the initial transmission, while the activity absorption of excited state begins to increase. Moreover, the total absorption activity of saturable absorber also decreases with the decreasing of the initial transmission.

ABSTRACT: Mononuclear complex of composition [ZnII(L)].2H2O (1) (H2L = 2-((Z)-(2-(2-(2-((Z)-3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)phenoxy)ethoxy)phenylimino)methyl)-4,6-di-tert‑butylphenol) has been synthesized and characterized. In the complex 1, the ZnII at the center is coordinated by two imine nitrogen atoms, two phenolate oxygen atoms and one ether oxygen atom from the ligand, resulting in a distorted square-pyramidal ZnN2O3 coordination geometry. Complex 1 is photoluminescence active with stokes shift of 115 nm. Geometrical parameters were computed using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method, specifically B3LYP, with the 6–311G++(d,p) basis sets. The charge distribution within the molecule was visualized through Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) surface analysis. The energy levels of the Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO) were determined that revealing substantial charge transfer within the molecule. Hirshfeld surface analysis was conducted in both three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) perspectives to investigate the electron distribution on the molecular surface. The Electron Localization Function (ELF) Figure was utilized to investigate the degree of relative electron localization within the molecule. Moreover, a Fukui functional analysis was employed to identify potential sites for chemical attack by different substituents. The process involved in the creation of the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), followed by the generation of a three-dimensional color-coded visualization to emphasize reactive areas. In the realm of biological investigation, four separate receptors such as 5HL1, 8BSK, 6UJM and 6UL9 were utilized for molecular docking analyses. These analyses aimed to evaluate interactions between ligands and proteins, as well as to uncover potential resemblances among drugs.

Considering the use of essential oils (EOs) as biopesticides due to their ability to effectively control postharvest pathogens, EOs-based formulations, and coatings became a priority. The present work aimed to screen essential oils from eight different plant species with anti-fungal properties along with the phytochemical analysis and molecular docking insight. Furthermore, the selected essential oil was applied as an edible coating to examine its protective effect against the attack of isolated postharvest pathogens on maize seedlings and rescue the seedling’s growth. Eight EOs were screened for their antimicrobial potential against Fusarium oxysporum and Xanthomonas campestris. Later on, the identification of the chemical constituents of the best-performing essential oil (Bergamot oil) was performed by GC–MS analysis. Different coating formulations consisting of essential oils and chitosan at 0.25% and 0.5% concentrations were applied to maize seeds to protect against postharvest pathogens. Formulation containing the bergamot essential oil showed the highest protective potential against a fungal and bacterial postharvest pathogen of maize under in-vitro conditions. The molecular docking study showed that the linalool and linalyl acetate present in essential oil comprises strong interactions with antifungal target proteins.

Nanoparticles, to be used in biomedical applications, have been the subject of extensive investigation in recent years. Recently, zirconia and iron have gained significant relevance to the field due to their superior mechanical and structural qualities as well as their numerous biological applications. In this research, Fe3O4-stabilized zirconia nanopowders are fabricated using a low-cost sol–gel approach. Iron oxide sol is added in 1–10 wt% increments to a 0.1 M zirconia sol. The obtained crystallite size values match well with previously reported values for the tetragonally stable (t-zirconia) phase. Hardness values of approximately 1278 HV, along with fracture toughness values of ∼ 24.48 MPa.m-1/2 are observed for stable tetragonal zirconia. Results from cell lysis experiments indicate that the synthesized nanoparticles have the potential to combat cancerous cells. An encapsulation efficacy of up to ∼ 73% is observed after a 120-minute time period. Radio labeling techniques are employed to label the as-synthesized zirconia nanoparticles using Sodium Pertechnetate (Na99mTcO4) labeled radiopharmaceuticals, allowing for biodistribution assessment. Multiple CT scans of rabbits are performed to obtain accurate results and evaluate their survival. Studies show that radiolabeled nanoparticles are highly absorbed in the animals' bladders, making them a promising choice for tumor therapy. Various physical properties of the animals are periodically examined after administration of the nanoparticle-based injection for several months, and no abnormalities are found. The results obtained through these characterizations indicate that these nanoparticles can be used as future therapeutic agents as well as drug carriers.

In this work, characterization by 1H & 13C together with UV-Vis & IR spectroscopy has been accomplished for p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA). The structural, electronic and vibrational properties of the heading compound were foretold using quantum chemical calculations through DFT. All the calculated data were compared with the experimental and found to be consisting with them. The comparison of computed data with experimental have been shown in terms of RMSD values (in case of IR, 1H and 13C NMR). The B3LYP functional with source set 6-311++G(d,p) was utilized to optimize the geometry of the compound, p-TSA. IR spectrum measurements have been made between 4000 - 400 cm−1. To calculate geometric dimensions, energies & wavenumbers, as well as to assign fundamental vibrations, the vibrational modes with the PED assignments were utilized. In solvents namely, MeOH and DMSO, the spectra of UV-Vis of the caption compound were captured between 200 and 400 nm.TD-DFT computations were used to ascertain the HOMO – LUMO energy gap & electronic transitions, which also replicate the UV-Vis absorption spectra. Hirsfeld Surface Analysis (HF) was also evaluated to determine the crystal structure's interactions. The electrophilic and nucleophilic locations were identified using the MEP. Furthermore, to study the biologic functions of p-TSA and to assess the optimum interactions of ligand – protein and similarity to the energetic ingredient, molecular docking was carried out.

2-phenoxyanline was thoroughly examined using several spectroscopy nuclear magnetic resonance, IR, UV–vis, and quantum mechanical methodologies. D F T with basis set is employed to determine structural optimization and distinct vibration modes. The optimum binding parameters agree closely with the observed binding characteristics. VEDA performed the duties relating to potential energy distribution (PED) satisfactorily. The G I A O approach was adopted to compute chemical shifts in the 13C, 1H- N.M.R and the outcomes were compared to experimental spectra. TD-DFT with PCM model was used to calculate UV–vis with different solvents that, when assessed against observational spectra. The FMO energy provides sufficient proof of such. Molecular docking and dynamic simulations gave a better idea of the interaction of ligands with receptors.

Laser-Assisted Chemical Bath Synthesis (LACBS) was used to fabricate pure and magnesium-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles. Analysis of these nanoparticles' structural, morphological, optical, and antimicrobial characteristics was conducted. This analysis spanned across varying concentrations of magnesium-doped zinc oxide from 1 % to 3 %. XRD confirmed the nanoparticles' crystalline nature, revealing the hexagonal wurtzite phase. SEM analysis showcased their nanometric domain existence and hexagonal crystalline morphology, transforming from nanorods to nanotubes. Optical analysis showed band gap energy decrease from 3.27 to 2.85 eV correlating with the magnesium doping concentration increase. Optical absorption displayed a distinctive redshift for the nanoparticles as magnesium concentration increased from 1 % to 3 %. Photocatalytic assessments highlighted the superior degradation ability of 3 % Mg-doped nanoparticles, showing a 98.04 % degradation rate against methylene orange dye under blue light exposure. Antimicrobial activity tests against various pathogens showed that Mg ions' incorporation significantly enhanced antimicrobial performance, demonstrating the effectiveness of the LACBS method.

Introduction: The present research aimed to fractionate Xanthium strumarium L. (XSL) foliage phenolics into a set of solvents and evaluate their antioxidant potential and in-vivo anti-diabetic activity against Alloxan monohydrate-induced diabetic mice.Methodology: For this purpose, XSL foliage was fractionated into petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water via orbital type shaking and tested for the presence of phenolics, and their antioxidant and antidiabetic potential.Results and discussion: The results revealed that the ethyl acetate fraction of XSL foliage contained the highest amount of total phenolics 95.25 mg GAE/g of extract, followed by ethanol (65.14 mg GAE/g), petroleum ether (25.12 mg GAE/g), water (12.20 mg GAE/g), and XSL powder (69.13 mg GAE/g). At the end of treatment time (day 18 of oral administration of 400 mg/kg body weight of mice), the ethyl acetate fraction significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lowered blood glucose level (353 ± 10.6 to 220 ± 25.5 mg/dL) which might due to the elevated level of phenolic compounds in this fraction.Conclusion: Overall, it can be speculated that ethyl acetate and ethanol may work efficiently for the enrichment of XSL phenolic without compromising their antidiabetic potential.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have emerged as auspicious porous adsorbents for radioiodine capture. However, their conventional solvothermal synthesis demands multiday synthetic times and anaerobic conditions, largely hampering their practical use. To tackle these challenges, we present a facile microwave-assisted synthesis of 2D imine-linked COFs, Mw-TFB-BD-X, (X = −CH3 and −OCH3) under air within just 1 h. The resultant COFs possessed higher crystallinity, better yields, and more uniform morphology than their solvothermal counterparts. Remarkably, Mw-TFB-BD-CH3 and Mw-TFB-BD-OCH3 exhibited exceptional iodine adsorption capacities of 7.83 g g–1 and 7.05 g g–1, respectively, placing them among the best-performing COF adsorbents for static iodine vapor capture. Moreover, Mw-TFB-BD-CH3 and Mw-TFB-BD-OCH3 can be reused 5 times with no apparent loss in the adsorption capacity. The exceptionally high iodine adsorption capacities and excellent reusability of COFs were mainly attributed to their uniform spherical morphology and enhanced chemical stability due to the in-built electron-donating groups, despite their low surface areas. This work establishes a benchmark for developing advanced iodine adsorbents that combine fast kinetics, high capacity, excellent reusability, and facile rapid synthesis, a set of appealing features that remain challenging to merge in COF adsorbents so far.

In this current study, collagen protein extracted from eggshell membrane and calcium carbonate (a main component of eggshell) are used as additive to enhance the stability and hardness of the zirconia crystals. Five different samples are prepared by adding membrane containing eggshell content as, 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, 4 g and 5 g in aqueous zirconium oxychloride sol. Phase purity is confirmed by XRD and FTIR. Phase pure and dense particles divulges the high hardness (∼1389 HV) and fracture toughness (12.89 MPa m1/2). FESEM analysis illustrates the formation of dense, well separated, non-agglomerated and spherical nanoparticles at 5 g of eggshell content. Eggshell works as a surfactant and stabilizer for formation of phase pure tetragonal spherical nanoparticles. Biodegradation study of optimized tetragonal zirconia (t-ZrO2 )in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) presents that minor change in weight and hardness after 72 h of immersion. Antioxidant study shows the 96% of radical scavenging activity (RSA). In vitro bio-mineralization study shows the formation of new bone after 5 weeks. After 5 weeks all pores were filled and minerals were deposited on the surface of the scaffolds. SEM images confirms that eggshell-zirconia composite form new bone. So eggshell addition results in formation of phase pure t-ZrO2 nanoparticles with well-defined boundaries which exhibit higher hardness, fracture toughness, stability and enhanced antioxidant properties.
