The various vapor phase properties of the 1-tert-butyl-6-cyano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (NTC6) and several other aminobenzonitriles are explained. A complete comparative analysis of the experimental vapor phase spectra, as well as the crystal structures is also presented.

Abstract

The intermolecular charge transfer (ICT) and dual fluorescence observed with flurazene, a rigidized planar derivative of N-phenylpyrrole (PP) is reported. The results indicate that fast and efficient ICT is possible in planar donor/acceptor (D/A) molecules, showing that perpendicular twisting (TCIT) of the D and A moieties is not required in this process.

Abstract

Fast and efficient intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and dual fluorescence is observed with the planarized aminobenzonitrile 1-tert-butyl-6-cyano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (NTC6) in a series of solvents from n-hexane to acetonitrile and methanol. Such a reaction does not take place for the related molecules with 1-isopropyl (NIC6) and 1-methyl (NMC6) groups, nor with the 1-alkyl-5-cyanoindolines with methyl (NMC5), isopropyl (NIC5), or tert-butyl (NTC5) substituents.

Abstract

Intramolecular charge transfers, triplet state properties and photoisomerization of five donor/acceptor (D/A) substituted butadienes are depicted. The mechanism for dual luminescence exhibited by D/A-substituted butadienes, a series of compound containing different amino groups as donor substituents and 1,3-indanedione as the acceptor moiety are investigated.
