CHRONIC pain , *EPIDEMIOLOGY , *PAIN management , *PAIN in adolescence , *METROPOLITAN areas - Abstract
Introduction: pain is defined as «an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with or resembling that associated with actual or potential tissue damage». It suggested that chronic pain in Latin America has regional differences. Characteristics of chronic pain in Mexican adults have been poorly documented. Material and methods: we use a researcher-administered in-person questionnaire that was applied to Mexican adults at urban areas from six major cities of six Mexican States (6 of 32, 19%). Results: researchers interviewed 1,755 subjects. 1,505 questionnaires contained complete data. 286 persons reported pain in one or more anatomical sites that persisted for over three months (19% of the responders). Conclusion: this is the first survey on chronic pain in Mexican adults from urban areas. We need a robust sample to estimate the impact of chronic pain in Mexico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MANUFACTURING industries , *DIGITIZATION , *COMPUTERS , *EQUATIONS - Abstract
Traditionally, the information related to the performance of rotodynamic pumps has been provided graphically, by means of their four characteristic curves: head-capacity, efficiencycapacity, power-capacity and NPSHr-capacity. Nowadays, stimulated by the widespread use of computers, rotodynamic pump manufacturers have begun to use mathematical equations to replace the graphical form to provide information related to their pumps and as a more expeditious means of studying the hydraulic behavior of pumping systems. In this way, it is essential to define the methods for obtaining the mathematical expressions representative of the characteristic curves of the pumps, from the graphs and/or data provided by the manufacturer, since these do not provide this information in an analytical form. The three most commonly used techniques are presented to perform the process of mathematization of the characteristic curves for their subsequent digitization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PRECOCIOUS puberty , *INTIMATE partner violence , *CRIME victims , *BAYESIAN analysis , *SEX crimes , *LATENT variables - Abstract
Background: A significant body of literature has identified multiple factors that contribute to established victimization by aggressive and/or intimidating behaviours. These studies primarily originate from the fields of intimate partner violence (IPV), bullying, sexual abuse, and/or commercial sexual exploitation (CSE), and generally focus on female victims. It appears, however, complicated to quantify the cumulative contribution of these factors on susceptibility to intimidating and/or hostile engagements on an individual level. Objective: To develop a comprehensive risk model to quantify, on an individual level, the cumulative effects of previously reported characteristics on susceptibility to aggressive/intimidating approaches, leading to victimization (e.g. in the context of IPV/sexual abuse). Methods: A Bayesian belief network was developed using data from previous studies, capturing the multivariate contribution of previously reported characteristics on the likelihood of becoming victimized by aggressive and/or intimidating approaches (e.g. in the IPV/CSE context) in female victims aged 12–24 years. Results: The model showed that specific combinations of characteristics may contribute to an increased likelihood of victimization (e.g. in the context of IPV/bullying/sexual abuse or CSE). This likelihood could be quantified and categorized into specific clusters of factors differentiating between victimization by physically violent, non-physical, and/or sexual aggressive/intimidating approaches. Conclusion: The present model appears to be the first to successfully quantify the cumulative contribution of individual characteristics on the likelihood of becoming victimized by aggressive and/or intimidating approaches, typically leading to victimization. Moreover, the present scientific effort and resulting model suggest that there may be a latent variable mediating between the implemented factors and overall outcome, i.e. the susceptibility to aggressive and/or intimidating approaches. From that perspective, the model may also be considered as an initial outline to effectively indicate susceptibility to such approaches. This study constructed a Bayesian belief network of published statistics to quantify the cumulative effects of individual characteristics on victimization (e.g. in the context of IPV/sexual abuse/bullying/CSE). The model showed that the likelihood of victimization following aggressive and/or intimidating approaches could be quantified and categorized into three different features: the likelihood of becoming victimized by physically violent, non-physical, and/or sexual aggressive/intimidating approaches. The likelihood of becoming victimized by physically violent and non-physical aggressive/intimidating approaches seems to be predominantly characterized by risk factors such as depressive symptoms and elevated neuroticism. The likelihood of victimization by sexual intimidating approaches seems to be primarily associated with externalizing risk factors (e.g. impulsivity), strengthened by factors related to previous (negative) sexual experiences and early-onset puberty. This model could be considered as an initial outline to effectively indicate susceptibility to aggressive/intimidating approaches. The model may therefore be considered an applicable framework for future research to further unravel the complicated aggressive and/or intimidating victim–perpetrator interactions related to victimization. CONTENT analysis , *DISCLOSURE , *BUSINESS enterprises - Abstract
This paper aims to identify characteristics of Brazilian companies’ voluntary environmental disclosure. The research was driven through an analysis of Standardized Financial Statements (SFSs) and Sustainability Reports (SR) from 2005 to 2007. The analyzed group is composed by Brazilian companies whose stocks are listed in Sao Paulo Stock Exchange (BOVESPA) and belong to the high environmental impact sector. The authors use the qualitative approach of Content Analysis to search and analyze parameters like “type of evidence”, “type of news”, “temporal reference” and “location of the disclosure”. It is concluded that the research corroborates the Voluntary Disclosure Theory, since companies voluntarily did not disclose much negative information about their environmental practices. Traditional data processing applications are unsuitable for handling large amounts of data. To achieve an efficient manipulation and extraction of characteristics or samples that the information represents, it is necessary to know aspects such as data collection and treatment. In this document, a database corresponding to the behavior of electrical energy consumption in a residential load was refined. The debugging and statistical analysis of the samples were carried out using the principal component analysis. The training of the smallest data set to the original database was made using vector support machine techniques and artificial neural networks. Finally, a proposal is presented for the analysis of samples that are within the operating limits or not using updating dynamic patterns for the unsupervised validation of new samples. Due to the increased amount of oil used, large volumes of hydrocarbons are released annually into the environment, constituting one of the main causes of soil pollution worldwide. The Center for Environmental Studies of Cienfuegos, Cuba, implemented an experimental project to develop an innovative technique that increases territorial resilience to this environmental problem. The goal was to implement the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to determine the design requirements of the experimental units to evaluate at the bench-scale during the degradation of oily residues through different treatments of biopiles ecotechnology. A 4-stage approach allowed for organizing the team, selecting the technology, adopting a QFD implementation procedure to translate the needs into engineering requirements, and disseminating the results. The concentrations of microorganisms, nutrients, and hydrocarbons in the biopile were the characteristics that accumulated more than 50% of the relative weights of the first level matrix. The initial concentration of hydrocarbons and the percentages of moisture and bulking agents in the mixture obtained the highest relative weights in the second level. The percentage of bulking agents in the biopile mixture was identified as an opportunity to reduce costs and improve the effectiveness of bioremediation. The results enabled the delineation of the experimental protocols for the engineering design, which allowed to build off a bench-scale prototype of the experimental units for evaluating various treatments of biopiles ecotechnology as a resilient alternative against soil hydrocarbon pollution. - Abstract
The objective of this review work was to present the state of the art of methodologies and advances in coffee genetic improvement over time. Coffee (Coffe sp.) Is a highly valued crop for its consumption as a beverage. There are about 130 species of coffee, and the most cultivated are: Coffe arabica, C. canephora and C. liberica. The different levels of ploidy in the genus Coffea hinder the introduction of agronomic and quality characteristics from diploid species to tetraploid species. Therefore, the genetic improvement of coffee based on conventional methodologies is a long and tedious process, which can last up to more than 30 years. However, in recent decades biotechnological techniques have been developed that may well contribute to introducing the desired characteristics and accelerating genetic improvement processes. These methods are described in this article, to finally discuss the challenges and prospects for improvement. coffee genetics in the South of Manabí. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The seed anatomy of eight species of ornamental cacti from the Chihuahuan desert was described, germplasm in the process of long-term conservation in the Germplasm Bank of the National Center for Genetic Resources of INIFAP; different qualitative, quantitative and pseudo-qualitative aspects were tested for the characterization of the seed, likewise it was supported with an X-ray equipment. The shape of the seed was varied as well as the size, probably associated with the ecological conditions in which species are distributed; X-rays provide important information on the development and condition of the embryo, however, it is not indicative of the viability of the seed. The organic arugula is a vegetable which is increasing consumed in Brazil, with the consequent need for higher production and a higher demand for quality. Current study determined, from the qualitative point of view, the harvest period of organic arugula in the environmental conditions of the semi-arid region of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The experiment was conducted on the Hortvida farm, which is certified by the international agricultural organization. After harvest, sauces were stored under refrigeration (12±1ºC and 75±5% relative humidity) in the laboratory of physiology and postharvest technology of the Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido (UFERSA). A completely randomized design with a 5x4 factorial scheme, or rather, five harvest periods (20, 24, 28, 32 and 36 days after transplantation) and four storage times (0, 4, 8 and 12 days), in 4 replications, totaling 80 plots. Chemical and physicochemical analyses were performed and comprised pH, soluble solids, titratable acidity, soluble solids ratio, acidity and vitamin C. Results showed that refrigeration is an effective method to prolong the quality of organic arugula, with a longer shelf life of about eight days. Better post-harvest characteristics are provided when harvested at 28 days after transplanting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Taking Jinghe River Basin in the Loess geomorphological area and Guangnan County in the karst geomorphological area as the study area, the spatial distribution characteristics of urban and rural areas of different geomorphological types are analyzed. By using GIS and related statistical analysis software, this paper summarizes three basic urban and rural types: river channel type, plateau surface type, and loess terrace horizon prototype in the Loess Landscape Jinghe River Basin. It is known that most towns in the loess plateau gully area are in the Jinghe River Basin. According to the spatial distribution characteristics of urban and rural areas, the optimal layout based on the main structure of five districts, nine River corridors, and four plates is proposed. Using the DEM module of ArcGIS to divide the elevation and gradient of Guangnan County, we know that the density of urban and rural settlements in Guangnan County is low and the spatial distribution is dispersed, and the distribution of urban and rural settlements shows a strong elevation orientation. The distribution of urban and rural settlements has a normal distribution relationship with the elevation. The largest number of urban and rural settlements is between 2.1° and 25°. According to the present situation of settlement distribution, this paper puts forward some optimization strategies, such as appropriate settlement scale, settlement space development monitoring, and so on. - Abstract
The objective of this study was to anlyze the significance of the relationships between the use of management artifacts and the organizational characteristics of companies operating in the hotel business in the city of João Pessoa. To achieve the proposed objective, a descriptive, exploratory and quantitative research was conducted. The universe comprised all 106 establishments listed in the registry of the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism of the city of João Pessoa, of which 98 agreed to participate in this research. Data collection was performed through face-to-face interviews with the manager in charge of the management sector, in July and August 2018. The collected data were processed using the statistical software STATISTICA, using descriptive statistics and the Spearman correlation test. It was obtained as preponderant results that the most used traditional management artifacts were budget, budget analysis and traditional costing techniques. Regarding modern management artifacts, there was a preponderance in the frequent use of benchmarking, just in time and ABC costing, to assist in decision making. It was realized that a management artifact used in one organization may not be as successful in another. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHEMICAL weathering , *SANDSTONE - Abstract
To protect the ecological environment of peak forest landform and maintain its integrity and stability, the optimization method of spatial structure characteristics of peak forest landform in Wulingyuan Scenic Area was studied. By using GIS and digital topographic analysis to study the basic features of sandstone peak forest landform, Wulingyuan peak forest landform and karst peak forest have great differences in lithological composition, as the weathering resistance is better than Cheltenham Badland landform; by using tree theory to analyze the features of Wulingyuan peak forest landform, according to area weight serialization of contour tree nodes, we can know the depression area. The karstification is stronger than that of the peak forest area, and the surface is relatively fragmented. Based on different landscape indices, the landscape pattern of Wulingyuan peak forest is analyzed. The fragmentation degree of vegetation is lower, and the fragmentation degree of building landscape is first increased, then decreased, and finally intensified. The proportion of artificial landscape decreases year by year and the trend of fragmentation is obvious. Based on the present situation of spatial structure characteristics of Wulingyuan peak forest landform, optimization methods such as combining centralization with decentralization and improving the quality of artificial landscape ecosystem were put forward. ENLIGHTENMENT , *SEVENTEENTH century , *POETRY (Literary form) , *INVESTIGATIONS , *POETS , *SPANISH literature , *SPANISH architecture - Abstract
The poetry of "Bajo Barroco" seeks to entertain and surprise the audience with spicy and comic verses. His popular style, its inconsequential themes and the echoes of a glorious past made it not only disappear from most of the stories of Spanish literature, they also caused it to be harshly discredited by critics. This led to the almost total oblivion of the transgressive work of prominent poets of this period, such as Leon Marchante, José Pérez de Montoro or fra Damián Cornejo, who offer poems where Petrarchist codes are subverted and new ways of thinking are sought and of expression. In the present work, will be provided a general vision of the current state of the Hispanic poetry of the second half of the 17th century and it will be show its literary and cultural interest through its analysis. To achieve these objectives, its main characteristics will be announced, some of the most recurrent (sacred and profane) topics will be exposed and new ways will be proposed for its dissemination and study. Thanks to this investigation, some of the poetic keys that allowed to create a bridge between the splendor of the golden poetry and the poetry cultivated in the Age of Enlightenment could be unveiled.
