The design and synthesis of low-cost, excellent catalytic activity catalysts is the key to catalytic oxidation of VOCs. Nanomaterials have attracted great interest in recent years. Here, a simple impregnation method was used to synthesize the Cu-doped CeO2 nanostructure catalyst supported on a boron-rich carbon carrier and applied for the catalytic oxidation of acetone. After trace amounts of Cu were added to the single CeO2 supported on boron-rich carbon catalyst, Cu-doped CeO2 catalyst displayed better catalytic activity. Besides, it also has long-term stability and H2O resistance. The influence of copper doping on the performance of the catalyst was studied by many characterization technologies. The result indicated that the introduction of Cu can further limit the growth of CeO2 grains based on the limited growth of metal nanoparticles on the carrier, can make the amounts of Ce3+ and adsorb oxygen species increase, and can enhance the redox properties of CeO2. Therefore, Cu-doped CeO2 nanostructures in a boron-rich carbon catalyst have the potential for the removal of acetone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions seriously endanger human health and the environment, making it the focus of global air pollution control. Catalytic degradation technology possesses the advantage of low energy consumption, a high purification rate, and no secondary pollution. However, catalysts that fully meet industrial requirements have not been developed. Acidity, as a property of catalysts, has played a decisive role in the catalytic oxidation of VOCs, together with the redox property of catalysts. However, a comprehensive and systematic review of the effect of acidity on the catalytic degradation of VOCs is still lacking. In this paper, the construction strategy of acid sites and their roles in the catalytic oxidation of different VOCs are described in detail. In addition, the effect of acidic sites on VOCs adsorption, bond breaking, harmful substances desorption, and promotion of oxidation was summarized. The acidic and oxidizing properties of the catalyst are critical for the removal of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs). An excellent catalyst often requires outstanding chlorine resistance and byproduct inhibition. In this study, CoO x , which is widely used for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) because of its outstanding activity was chosen to provide oxidizing properties. To address the potential for chlorination byproducts and the lack of activity, we loaded CoO x on the acidic carrier HZSM-5 by ZIF-derived method, then doped CrO x using impregnation method to enhance both oxidation and acidity. It was found that ZIF-derived method disperse CoO x nicely thus providing more oxidation sites. Besides, CrO x effectively increases the superficial lattice oxygen of the catalyst to compensate for the loss of sites due to the occupation of oxygen vacancies by DCM during the oxidation process. This contributes to the superior oxidizability of the modified catalysts, which explains the high CO 2 selectivity. Invigoratingly, CrO x can increase the ratio of Lewis acid to Brønsted acid to completely break the C–Cl bond, hence eliminating the possibility of chlorine-containing byproducts and accomplishing a deeper degradation of CVOCs. The bimetallic catalysts we prepared have high activity and can achieve very low or even zero byproduct generation. In addition, the catalyst shows outstanding stability and water resistance, which is quite meaningful in the field of catalytic oxidation of CVOCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
