- Abstract
Batina (Kiskőszeg) is one of the most significant sites in the southern Carpathian Basin from the end of the Late Bronze Age and the beginning of the Early Iron Age. For more than a century, Batina has been the source of many exceptional finds, now stored in the collections of several European museums, which are considered to originate from destroyed funerary complexes and which helped define the chronology of the development of the Dalj Group. A systematic field survey was done to determine the location of the Dalj Group cemetery in Batina. Its results indicated that the cemetery could have been located in Sredno, a site south of the contemporary settlement on Gradac. This was followed by archaeological excavations in Sredno, which revealed many cremation graves of the Dalj Group from the Late Bronze Age and the beginning of the Early Iron Age. The graves contained ceramic, metal and glass finds, confirming the earlier hypotheses about the great significance of Batina as an important southern Pannonian centre from the end of the 2nd millennium BC and the first centuries of the 1st millennium BC, which stood on an important communication line along the Danube. - Abstract
The paper deals with the question of the occurrence of significant plastic decoration in the form of so-called crow's foot, on the amphora-shaped ceramic vessels associated with the Carpathian Tumulus Grave cultural complex. This type of decoration can be quite reliably iden¬tified within ceramic material from the early phase of the Middle Bronze Age, where various elements of the previous highly-developed culture pottery styles are significantly fading-away. Some researchers associated this peculiar decorative phenomenon exclusively with the Tumulus Grave Culture, but suffi¬cient attention has not yet been given to the detailed analysis, which would confirm these views. The pri¬mary objective of the study is to analyse archaeological contexts in which the mentioned plastic ornament occurs and to specify acquaintances with the internal development of the ceramic inventory of the Car¬pathian Tumulus Grave cultural complex. Earlier reviews of culturally specific nature of this phenomenon are verified from the view of the current state of research. Some observations related to other variations of plastic decorative applications appearing on the amphora-shaped vessels of the Tumulus Grave Culture provenance are outlined in the last section of this paper. The results are confronted with the hypothesis of the gradual spread of cultural elements of the forming Tumulus Grave Culture from the Middle Danu¬be area to the eastern parts of the Carpathian Basin (nowadays central Hungary and the Tisza region) during the early period of the Middle Bronze Age. URNS , *INTERMENT , *ARCHAEOLOGICAL excavations , *RESEARCH , *DOCUMENTATION , *RADIOCARBON dating - Abstract
This work presents an urn grave of the Vinkovci Culture discovered during rescue excavations in Vinkovci. The integrity of the finds and good research documentation make it possible to position the site in a wider context of other finds dating from the same period in the area of Slavonia, Syrmia and Transdanubian region. The anthropological analysis of the osteological remains and radiocarbon dating of charcoal from the urn allow an interpretation of the burial customs and absolute chronology of the Vinkovci Culture. Kr. smještenoga na važnoj komunikaciji koja je slijedila tok Dunava., Batina (Kiskőszeg) is one of the most significant sites in the southern Carpathian Basin from the end of the Late Bronze Age and the beginning of the Early Iron Age. This article continues our investigations ofthe sculpture at Medvedgrad concentrating on non-figured materials, the portal and the non-figured capitals of the Chapel, and the fragments ofthe Palas capitals. Thanks to new insights into the patronage ofHerceg Koloman in the Spiš area ofSlovakia, and its monuments, it proposes a new, earlier dating ofthe Medvedgrad complex giving credence to proposals ofNada Klaić who ascribed Medvedgrad to the patronage ofHerceg Koloman which, in our opinion, seems quite likely for the Chapel and the Palas., Ovaj prilog nastavlja s razmatranjem skulpture na Medvedgradu usredotočujući se na nefiguralne elemente -portal inefiguralne kapitele kapele te fragmente kapitela palasa. FiguraIna skulptura Medvedgrada, kako smo predložili u prošlome broju SHP-a, pokazuje veze medvedgradske skulpture s kraljevskim radionicama ranijih desetljeća 13. st., što još jasnije izražavaju nefiguraIni radovi.

Antropološka analiza osteoloških ostataka i 14C analiza ugljena iz žare omogućuju razmatranje pogrebnih običaja i apsolutne kronologije vinkovačke kulture., This work presents an urn grave of the Vinkovci Culture discovered during rescue excavations in Vinkovci.
