The article discusses the benefits of using automated external, defibrillators (AED) in the workplace. Most cardiac arrests occur outside hospital, and in the workplace, it can take too long for emergency services to arrive to save lives. There is a strong case for introducing AED, but there are ethical and legal issues that organisations need to be aware of before introducing a policy. Early defibrillation improves the outcome of cardiac arrests by decreasing morbidity and mortality.
