Isoquinolines (IQs) are an abundant feedstock, and N-formyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines (FTHIQs) are valuable fine chemicals and key intermediates. Herein, we report for the first time the Co0/ZnCl2-catalyzed direct N-formylation of IQs by using CO2 with H2 to produce FTHIQs. It was discovered that the Co catalyst and ZnCl2 worked synergistically in catalyzing the N-formylation reactions, and moderate to high yields of the desired products could be obtained, depending on the nature of the substrates. The Co0 catalyst could be reused at least five times without a notable decrease in activity. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed on the basis of control experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Both immobilization of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) of very small size on hierarchical porosity supports and carboxylative cyclization of propargyl alcohols with CO2 under ambient conditions are very interesting. In this work, we synthesized AgNPs supported on sulfonated macroreticular resin (SMR) with hierarchical pores in water/alcohol solutions. It was shown that the size of the AgNPs on the SMR could be tailored easily by altering the synthetic solutions, and very small AgNPs with narrow size distribution (1-3 nm) could be obtained in water/methanol solution. It was found that the AgNPs/SMR with small AgNPs was highly efficient and an easily recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of α-alkylidene cyclic carbonates by carboxylative cyclization of propargyl alcohols with CO2 at ambient pressure and temperature, which was the first work to use metal nanoparticles as the catalysts for the reaction. Supported KI/MCM-41 catalysts were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, and N2adsorption–desorption techniques. It was confirmed that KI on MCM-41 are small in size and even in dispersion. KI/MCM-41 catalyst with a 35% loading of KI has given excellent catalytic activity and stability in the synthesis of various carbonates. The catalyst was easily recovered and could be reused at four times without much loss of activity. In addition, the reaction mechanism was discussed on the basis of the experimental results. Abstract: Modified-vermiculite supported Ni catalysts were prepared and characterized by XRD, BET, TGA, TPR and TEM. The catalytic activity of these catalysts for simultaneous oxidative conversion and CO2 reforming of methane to syngas was evaluated. The results indicated that vermiculite has a great potential as a support of Ni component due to its excellent thermal stability. Among these catalysts, the expanded-vermiculite supported Ni catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic activity and stability. It was found that Ni oxides supported on vermiculite was reduced more easily and also Ni-based vermiculite catalysts suppressed coke depositing in the reaction, in comparison with alumina-supported Ni catalyst.
