The trade-off policy framing has been a central feature of green growth since the 1980s, employed to frame the countervailing spheres of social, environmental, and economic policies purported to ensure the sustainable development of the global economy. This article argues that so central has this framing become that IPE scholars have tended to focus on different types of 'greenable' growth observable within capitalism, rather than question the prospect of greening growth itself. Far from value-free, the trade-off framing is ultimately determined by the structural imperative for economic growth, veiling the disciplines anthropocentric ontology in a normative or objective guise. To account for the tacit prioritization, the trade-in policy framing – the compromising of environmental objectives to accommodate the growth imperative – is advanced as an alternative framing. The trading-in of environmental policies is legitimized through political-industrial narratives, of which three, the (i) consequential, (ii) allay, and (iii) finance are outlined in this analysis. The article also discusses the shift from free trade to protectionism in the 20th century and the need for a rules-based system to ensure stable growth. It highlights the potential for India's economic growth through pent-up demand, demographic factors, economic reforms, and digitalization. The article debates whether China will achieve global hegemony or if joint hegemony with the US and its allies will be established. It points out the risks faced by the Chinese economy, such as policy uncertainty, real estate depression, and geopolitical risks. The article also mentions the potential bubble in China's real estate market and the growth potential of India through digitalization and skilled human resources. Climate change and broader Anthropogenic environmental risks pose existential threats to humanity. Human-driven environmental change has come to be understood through the concept of the 'Anthropocene'. Anthropocene risks demonstrate that existing fossil-fuel intensive and growth-oriented capitalist development are unsustainable. The urgent need to transition towards greener forms of development is widely recognised. Comparative Political Economy (CPE) should be well placed to guide and evaluate green transition, yet it typifies a wider disconnect between political economy and environment. This article seeks to understand and transcend that disconnect. Developing a critical genealogy of CPE's post-war emergence, the article examines CPE's paradigmatic evolution and fitness for grappling with the Anthropocene. It argues that dominant theoretical paradigms (Varieties of Capitalism and Growth Models approaches) are grounded in a 'nature/society' dualism that treats national economic models as environmentally disembedded and causally independent from the Earth System. Economic growth is uncritically elevated as a dominant comparative metric, normative aspiration, and policy objective for capitalist development. These characteristics limit the capacity to engage with green transition. Embedding CPE within ecological considerations, the article selectively repurposes the field's existing conceptual insights to develop hypotheses concerning comparative capitalisms and green transition in the Anthropocene. MNCs play a critical role in addressing the sustainable development issue. The traditional profit-maximizing strategy of MNCs has frequently resulted in sustainability problems. This has had a detrimental effect on long-term economic growth, as well as the environment and society. The article will focus on MNCs' contributions to sustainable growth and how they may achieve a healthy balance between profits and the environment to ensure a dynamic future. The research approach focuses on the development of sustainability and the role of MNCs in sustainable development and uses the research methods like systems analysis, comparative analysis, and interpretation of the findings as outlined in the literature. The article acknowledges that MNCs can both cause and address environmental and social issues. It acknowledges that MNCs must strike a balance between economic, social, and environmental issues in order to achieve a sustainable future in a complex and continuously changing global context. A "triple bottom line" strategy, which evaluates success in terms of the environment and social effect in addition to financial performance, is the manner in which MNCs may accomplish this balance. One of the contemporary manifestations of capitalism is "responsible" or "moral" capitalism. Moral capitalism is also described as the constitutional principle of regulating capitalism in order to protect citizens from corporate predators and to prevent economic exploitation based on one's class or financial condition. As we face different crises – democratic, social and environmental – there is a need to rethink the assumptions we have made about sustainable development. This paper aims to consider alternatives to development and their fundamental connections to economics. Because discourse is connected to practice, it is important to question definitions. By drawing on existing theories, discourses and practices, I present an economic perspective to accompany post-developmentalist theories and contribute to the collective thinking on alternatives to development. Using the framework of Polanyi, I show that the mainstream view of development, based on a formal definition of economics, has not only failed to address the needs of many but also built a strong imbalance between the Global North and the Global South. A substantive view could be the basis for an alternative to development, relying on the relationship between basic needs, nature and institutions. Profound transformations are needed to balance the economy, society and the environment. To achieve these transformations, alternatives to development must involve rethinking structures, re-embedding the economy and considering the power of collectives and the multiplicity of ideas across the world. With the rapid development of China's market economy and the continuous deepening of system reforms, enterprises are also facing more problems while facing greater challenges. In order to deeply explore the role of intelligent signal processing in the development of enterprises in the context of 5G technology, this article uses data collection methods, questionnaire methods, and model building methods to collect data and analyze economic and institutional factors in the development of enterprises. The algorithm has been streamlined. First the impact of environmental factors in sustainable economic development is studied. The results show that, in the optimal economic growth plan, the optimal GDP is 27.65 trillion yuan, and the proportions of the three industries are 8.8%, 38.5%, and 49.7%, respectively; in the optimal pollution emission plan, the proportions of the three industries are 11.8%, 20.15%, and 65.5% respectively. In the neutral plan, the optimal GDP is 27.89 trillion yuan, and the proportions of the three industries are 8.5%, 39.7%, and 49.8%, respectively. This shows that, under the goal of pursuing the optimal environment, the economy can still be maintained. Further the advantages of the system in this article are discussed by analyzing the degree of synergy between them and the continuous growth of the enterprise; we can find that, from 2001 to 2006, the degree of synergy between enterprise technological innovation and institutional innovation has been continuously improved, and it has increased by 332.7% during this period, which shows that technological innovation, institutional innovation, and enterprise growth are coordinated development. It was basically realized that, starting from the intelligent signal processing technology, the economic model and innovation system that can develop together with the environment have been designed. There is a developing concern among developed, developing, and emerging economies in relevance to increasing real sector expenditure across the world. As a result, all countries have started to increase their real sector expenditure by increasing the share of finance. Hence, this study aims to examine the effects of both financial development and real sector on economic growth; we choose five emerging market economies to explain the economic growth process between 2000 and 2016. The results of long‐run elasticities document that real sector and financial development play a significant role in promoting economic growth. The results also suggest that money supply, exchange rate and inflation have a considerable positive effect on economic growth, respectively. Given these findings, we suggest that both governments and policy makers of the BRICS nations to initiate more effective policies to increase the real sector expenditure and develop financial sector. China is a rising power of the twenty-first century with its brilliant economic performance as a result of the transition to the free market economy model. However, China's economic development process has caused high environmental costs. For the past decade, China has been the leading country responsible for global carbon dioxide emissions (CO2). Therefore, determining the dynamics that have a reducing effect on CO2 emissions in China is very important for the development of sustainable environmental policies. This paper aims to examine the impacts of the institutional structure on environmental sustainability in China. To this end, the study follows the method of cointegration with multiple breaks that produce robust econometric results and consider structural changes. According to the results, (i) the validity of an N-shaped EKC relationship is supported between economic growth and environmental pollution. (ii) Industrialization and trade have an increasing impact on environmental pollution. (iii) Political rights and civil liberties have a reducing effect on environmental pollution. The study of this article intends to study the performances in sustainable rural development in Romania with focus on the main fields in the rural sector, between 2014-2018. Using the econometric tool, we prove the dynamics of sustainable rural development on economic growth in Romania, so as to subsequently demonstrate which are the most effective strategies meant to stimulate the development of this sector. Therefore, sustainable rural development is the motion with the purpose to progress and endow the region, without achieving urban expansion, while preserving the traditional specificity of rural culture. The progress of this sector is a significant component in the modernization of the state economy, contributing to its proper functioning based on the market economy principles. This process contributes to increasing the level of agri-food production, the complex improvement of the national economy, as well as to the sustainable growth of the regions or the resolution of social dilemmas. A debt-based economy requires the accumulation of more and more debt to finance economic growth, while future economic growth is needed to repay the debt, and so the cycle continues. Despite global debt reaching unprecedented levels, little research has been done to understand the impacts of debt dynamics on environmental sustainability. Here, we explore the environmental impacts of the debt-growth cycle in Indonesia, the world's largest debt-based producer of palm oil. Our empirical Agent-Based Model analyses the future effects (2018–2050) of power (im)balance scenarios between debt-driven economic forces (i.e. banks, firms), and conservation forces, on two ecosystem services (food production, climate regulation) and biodiversity. The model shows the trade-offs and synergies among these indicators for Business As Usual as compared to alternative scenarios. Results show that debt-driven economic forces can partially support environmental conservation, provided the state's role in protecting the environment is reinforced. Our analysis provides a lesson for developing countries that are highly dependent on debt-based production systems: sustainable development pathways can be achievable in the short and medium terms; however, reaching long-term sustainability requires reduced dependency on external financial powers, as well as further government intervention to protect the environment from the rough edges of the market economy. The question of whether democracy is needed as a prerequisite for growth is highly debated within the development field. The rapid growth of the East Asian "miracle" economies has questioned the necessity of democracy in producing growth outcomes, with growing literature supporting the notion of authoritarian-led growth. This paper will analyze the evidence behind the widening acceptance of authoritarian capitalism and its application in Rwanda's coffee sector. The findings will indicate that although democracy is indeed not a prerequisite for growth, long term economic sustainability is reliant on continued liberalization of markets and improved personal freedoms, ultimately leading to a transition to democracy. The article focuses on the role of industrial capitalism in the expansion of social production. Social production requires increased use of matter and energy. Society can neither create nor destroy, and whose transformations follow physical laws which humans cannot change. Production in society, however, is merely the transformation of matter and energy originally produced in nature. Natural production is also the transformation of matter and energy, and so differs from social production only in the sense that humans intentionally intervene in those transformations, which we call social production. Regions which depend on exporting extracted natural resources are therefore likely to suffer from severe fluctuations in income. Capital sunk in extractive infrastructure may devalue radically. These problems limit their capacity for sustained development. Nonetheless, resource extraction figures prominently in the economic plans of many less developed nations. A growing literature addresses the economic or the political pitfalls that beset extractive economies.
