Purpose: Healthcare professionals (HCPs) play a critical role in suicide prevention and clinical guidelines recommend inquiring about suicidality as part of medical history and diagnosis. Emerging evidence indicates a lack of implementation of such policies in clinical practice. However, to date, no comprehensive mixed-methods study has examined this issue in the field of oncology. Methods: A preregistered mixed-methods study was conducted with oncological HCPs (N = 20) from various professions, using semi-structured interviews and validated questionnaires. Employing an explorative theory-generating approach, qualitative content analysis was applied to the interviews. The different data sources are integrated and contrasted. Comparisons according to sociodemographic variables (profession, age, and gender) and frequency distributions were used to examine the questionnaire data. Results: Most HCPs reported direct or indirect experiences with suicidality in cancer patients. Nineteen HCPs did not routinely explore suicidality, of whom five reported not inquiring about it at all. Those who explored suicidality were more confident, less emotionally overwhelmed and reported higher subjective knowledge. HCPs also differed regarding their endorsement of suicide myths. Conclusion: The study highlights difficulties with active suicide exploration and differences among HCPs. Background: The diagnosis and treatment of cancer are associated with substantial physical, psychological, and social morbidity for most patients. Distress can be seen as an unpleasant experience of an emotional, psychological, social, or spiritual nature that interferes with the ability to cope with cancer treatment. Purpose: The aim was to understand patients' experiences of distress in their context and to analyze and interpret the findings. Method: An explorative, descriptive qualitative study was conducted among cancer patients receiving treatment and care at rural hospitals in Limpopo. A face-to-face individual interview was conducted to determine the participants' cancer-related experiences and quality of life. Thematic analysis was conducted following Tesch's method, and the themes developed were subjected to a triangulation process to ensure the validity and rigor of the findings. Findings: The participants revealed experiences of symptomatic distress resulting in biopsychosocial distress such as pain, fatigue, emotional distress related to prognosis and uncertainty about the future, psychosocial distress related to a lack or absence of support, financial instability, and poor self-esteem. Conclusions: Cancer patients face many challenges during their treatment journey. Participants were drained by anxiety and uncertainty of the cancer trajectory and required psychosocial support. The oncology team must provide supportive preventive measures for side effects management and culture-sensitive psychotherapy at an early stage to improve their quality of life. The present study aimed at understanding, through the construction of a substantive theory encompassing the experience of the losses lived by Venezuelan cancer survivors. The study was qualitative, under the emerging and projected grounded theory designs. Ten surviving cancer patients, men, and women of different ages and diagnoses, participated. We collected the information through in-depth interviews. For the analysis of data we applied the method of constant comparisons. Surviving patients experienced different losses that are not limited to health-related ones. Emotional discomfort, acceptance, and resignification delineated the experience of loss in survivors. Acceptance, promoted by optimism, hope, and social/family support, facilitated adjustment to everyday life, management of fear of cancer recurrence, guilt, and resignification of cancer and its losses. The article explores the characteristics of prostate cancer patients seeking integrative medicine at an academic cancer center. The study found that patients sought integrative oncology services primarily for guidance on diet and nutrition, counseling on herbs and supplements, and specific integrative therapies like acupuncture. Common symptoms reported included fatigue, hot flashes, and trouble sleeping. The study highlights the need for further research to address the needs of this patient population and improve coordination of integrative services with traditional cancer care. Background: Patients' sociodemographic factors, clinical characteristics, distress factors, perceived shame and stigma may give rise to psychological distress in cancer patients that bring about further psychosocial impact. Aims: (1) to determine the degrees of shame and stigma towards cancer and psychological distress among cancer patients in Malaysia and (2) to examine the clinical and psychosocial predictors of psychological distress. Methods: This cross‐sectional study recruited a total of 217 cancer patients. The participants were administered the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics questionnaires, the Malay version of the Shame and Stigma Scale (SSS‐M) to assess for the degree of cancer shame and stigma, and the Malay version of the Distress Thermometer and Problem List to assess for presence of psychological distress and identify its sources. Results: There was a significant level of shame and stigma among cancer patients with the total mean SSS‐M score of 12.08 (SD = 6.09). Anger (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 11.97, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.96–86.8, p = 0.001), loss of interest or enjoyment (AOR = 14.84, 95% CI = 2.93–75.20, p = 0.001), loneliness (AOR = 8.10, 95% CI = 1.13–58.02, p = 0.001), feeling of worthlessness or being a burden (AOR = 6.24, 95% CI = 1.32–29.59, p = 0.021), fear (AOR = 4.52, 95% CI = 1.79–11.43, p = 0.001), pain (AOR = 4.07, 95% CI = 1.53–10.82, p = 0.005), financial constraint (AOR = 2.95, 95% CI = 1.22–7.13, p = 0.016), and having regret (AOR = 1.89, 95% CI = 1.03–3.79, p = 0.039) increased the odds of developing psychological distress. Conclusion: Treating clinicians should monitor for and provide psychosocial interventions for the biopsychosocial factors which may worsen psychological distress among cancer patients. Background: Spiritual care is a key domain of quality palliative care as defined by national palliative care guidelines. Aims: The aim of this project was to synthesize data and research experience by the authors over 30 years related to spirituality in patients with cancer. The research objectives for this analysis were to:Describe spirituality in patients with cancer.Determine the outcomes of palliative care interventions on spirituality and related variables in patients with cancer in these studies conducted by the authors.Summarize methodological issues in conducting research related to spirituality in oncology patients. Methods: A synthesis of 15 prior studies conducted by the authors was completed and also compared to current literature regarding spirituality in cancer and other serious illness. Results: Findings demonstrate the broad scope of spirituality, key spiritual concerns in cancer and methodological approaches to assessing spirituality. Conclusion: Spirituality is a major concern for patients, yet limited training has been provided for clinicians who deliver this care. Death anxiety is associated with fears of suffering and uncertainty at the end of life. It is also relevant to patients' family caregivers, who can experience fears about the patients' death and dying. This study investigates the prevalence of death anxiety in advanced cancer patients and their family caregivers and its association with sociodemographic and medical characteristics. We recruited patients with UICC stage IV solid tumors from in- and outpatient oncology and palliative care settings. We administered the Death and Dying Distress Scale to assess clinically significant death anxiety. We analyzed its association with sociodemographic and medical characteristics using simultaneous multiple linear regression analyses. Death anxiety was prevalent in 37% of patients (N = 481) and 75% of family caregivers (N = 140). Most frequent death anxiety concerns were "feeling distressed about the impact of one's own death on loved ones" (52% of patients) and "feeling distressed about running out of time with their loved one" (69% of family caregivers). Patients who experienced high death anxiety were more likely to be younger (standardized β = -0.1; P= 0. 005) and have known about their diagnosis for less time (standardized β = -0.1; P= 0. 046). Being female predicted higher death anxiety in patients (β = 0.12; P= 0. 041) and family caregivers (β = 0.32; P= 0. 002). The results indicate that death anxiety is a common, clinically significant problem in patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers, emphasizing the need for targeted psychological support. Introduction: The main objective of this study was to fill the gap between the knowledge nurses have about psychosocial care and what they do about cancer patients' needs. It also aimed to devise ways to improve nursing education for nurses who could provide enhanced psychosocial support in such areas. Methods: This qualitative study relied on 18 in-depth interviews with nurses, with a focus on the difference between their understanding of psychosocial care and its application in helping cancer patients. This involved analyzing the transcribed interviews using thematic analysis. Data were collected from February to March 2024. Results: The verbal accounts of 18 participants were analyzed. These include theme 1 "holistic approach to cancer care" with the subtheme "navigating resource constraints:" theme 2 "nurses well-being and emotional input" with the subtheme "positive impact of psychosocial care:" theme 3 "Care for patients' well-being" with subtheme "resourcefulness and resilience in psychosocial care:" theme 4 "adapting care and building connections:" theme 5 "ideal and reality in psychosocial care" with subtheme "challenges in delivering comprehensive cancer care:" and theme 6 "empowering nurses for effective psychosocial care" with subtheme "building a strong foundation for psychosocial care." Conclusion: From the nurses' perspective, this study indicates a need for more inclusive cancer treatment. Therefore, in addition to physical interventions, emotions and social welfare must also be addressed. Although emotionally invested, health workers may offer assistance along psychosocial lines, thus aiding both patients and caretakers. Although individualized care with personal connections is crucial for effective services, this approach can make it difficult to ensure that all clients receive adequate psychological assistance. Hence, there has been a call to enhance the training to produce nurses who offer high-quality services. Background: Early palliative care (EPC) is a recommended model for improving the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers. However, limited research has focused on the role of psychological evaluation within EPC. The Veneto Institute of Oncology (IOV), a Comprehensive Cancer Centre, employs an interdisciplinary team to assess patients with advanced-stage disease. This study aims to assess the psychological needs of these patients, investigate any correlations between psychological symptoms (PSs) and factors such as awareness of diagnosis and prognosis, symptoms detected using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS), as well as the patient's gender, age, social issues, and survival and to clarify the psychologist's role within the interdisciplinary team. Methods: Data were retrieved from a prospectively maintained database. From 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2021, 819 consecutive patients were evaluated during EPC consultations, with 753 participants enrolled in the study. The ESAS was administered to each patient before the consultation. Results: More than half of the patients (385, 57.1%) reported at least one PS, with an ESAS score of ≥4. Specifically, 34.9% reported depression, 28.7% reported anxiety, and 43.2% indicated feeling "not well." Referring oncologists tended to overestimate the presence of PSs compared to patient self-reports (51.8% versus 41.3%). According to the psychologists' assessment, 29.2% of participants were found to have depression, and 10.8% of participants had anxiety. Additionally, 31 patients (10.8%) with psychological disorders were diagnosed with an adaptation disorder related to a physical condition. The psychology service engaged 47% of patients, while 18.5% declined psychological support. Patients exhibiting other ESAS symptoms with scores of ≥4 had an increased odds ratio for reporting PSs of ≥4. However, multivariable analysis revealed no significant relationship between PSs and awareness of diagnosis and prognosis. Conclusion: The systematic use of self-assessment in EPC is essential for understanding patient's experience, determining whether PSs stem from physical disorders, and prioritizing interventions. Awareness of prognosis does not correlate with increased anxiety and depression in patients. Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality, with new cases expected to rise. Medical advances increase cure rates and prolong patient lives, but survivorship involves high symptom burden, loss of function and emotional distress. Improving patient-centred care (PCC) and quality of life throughout the care process is essential. Key to this improvement are systematic use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-centred care pathways (PCCPs). Despite established benefits, current cancer care focuses on tumour-centred care approaches often neglecting the patient perspective. Evidence-based PCC guidelines fail to be routinely incorporated into clinical practices. The Horizon 2020-funded European MyPath project aims to address these gaps by developing, implementing and evaluating digital PCCPs with PROMs. MyPath will be tailored to enhance the organisational contexts of cancer centres across Europe through the application of implementation science strategies. This paper describes the current state of applying PCC in routine cancer care and presents a forward-looking perspective on how the MyPath project can successfully adopt and implement digital PROMs across countries. Background: Esophageal cancer and gastric cancer patients require researchers' attention to address and resolve the issue of stigma. The aim of this study was to investigate whether behavioral activation (BA), an emerging psychosocial intervention method, can mitigate the stigma experienced by these patients and enhance their quality of life (QoL). Methods: One hundred fifty‐three patients with advanced esophageal cancer and gastric cancer were recruited and randomly assigned to either the BA plus care as usual group (BA + CAU group) or the care as usual group (CAU group). Pre‐ and post‐intervention questionnaires, including the Social Impact Scale (SIS), as well as all functional areas and global health and QoL modules from the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ‐C30, version3). Results: Generalized estimating equation analysis revealed that compared to usual care alone, combining BA with usual care significantly reduced stigma (time‐by‐group interaction, T1: β = −10.584, p < 0.001; T2: β = −22.619, p < 0.001) while improving physical, role, emotional, social functioning and global health and QoL particularly at T2 time point. Additionally, it also has the potential to decelerate the progressive decline of cognitive functioning. Furthermore, correlation analysis demonstrated a significant association between stigma levels and all functional areas as well as global health and QoL. Conclusion: The issue of stigma among esophageal cancer and gastric cancer patients warrants increased attention due to its close relationship with patient QoL. Objective: Cancer patients generally have high stress levels, which often leads to depression, anxiety and other psychological problems. Laughter therapy has been used to relieve stress, depression and anxiety in cancer patients, but its efficacy is uncertain. The study aims to summarize evidence on the efficacy of laughter therapy on psychological symptoms of people with cancer. Methods: A search was conducted in 10 electronic databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reported before May 2023. This systematic review was reported based on the PRISMA 2020 statement. The evaluation of methodological quality and risk of biases were conducted by the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment tool version 2, and evidence evaluation was conducted using the GRADE pro online assessment tool. Statistical analysis adopted the Review Manager version 5.4 software. Results: A total of eight studies were included involving 543 participants. Meta‐analysis showed that laughter therapy plus routine nursing produced more positive effects than routine nursing in relieving stress (SMD = −1.18, 95% CI −1.73, −0.62, p < 0.0001), depression (SMD = −1.05, 95% CI −1.30, −0.81, p < 0.00001) and anxiety (SMD = −0.81, 95% CI −1.20, −0.43, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Laughter therapy could effectively relieve stress, depression and anxiety of cancer patients. Future studies should improve the methodological quality of randomized controlled trials, conduct appropriate follow‐up, and report details of follow‐up. Additionally, it should perform multi‐center and large‐sample studies, and combine both subjective and objective outcome indications to enhance the persuasiveness of evidence supporting the effectiveness of laughter therapy. Objectives: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs, 18–39 years) with cancer identifying as racially/ethnically minoritized or 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two‐Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and "+" referring to other queer identities) have been underrepresented in cancer research. This study explores the aspects of identity that hold significance for these minoritized AYAs and how these facets impact their healthcare experiences. Methods: Eligible participants comprised English‐speaking AYAs who self‐identified as racially/ethnically minoritized and/or 2SLGBTQIA+, were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15–39, currently aged > 18, and had received or were receiving cancer care within Canadian healthcare system. Additionally, four patient partners meeting the same criteria were recruited as research collaborators. Semi‐structured one‐on‐one virtual interviews guided by an interview script were conducted, and qualitative analysis employed a framework approach. Results: We recruited 23 participants from 4 Canadian provinces (mean age: 28, Range: 20–44); 17 identified as racially/ethnically minoritized, one as sexual/gender minoritized, and five as racially/ethnically and sexually/gender minoritized. Participants emphasized that their culture/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexuality, gender, family, career, and being an immigrant are important aspects of their identity, with only one participant recognizing their identity as a "person with cancer". A cancer diagnosis altered the aspects of identity deemed most significant by participants. Both visible and invisible aspects of identity shaped participants' experiences and influenced their level of trust in the healthcare system. Conclusion: Racially, ethnically, gender, or sexually minoritized AYAs with cancer place considerable importance on aspects of their identity that are shaped by their respective communities. Background: Sense of coherence (SoC), a key concept in the theory of salutogenesis, influences the pathway to promote or maintain health. Utilising psycho-oncological care (PC) can be allocated to the dimension of 'tension management' within this theory. We aimed to evaluate tension management and SoC in the context of PC by analysing whether PC consultations and therapeutic alliance influenced patients' SoC over time. Participants and procedure: Patients who received PC were surveyed twice (after 3 and 12 months) about their care experiences, including therapeutic alliance and SoC. Survey data were matched to care documentation data, which contain consultation dates and sociodemographics. Four stepwise regression analyses were conducted with overall SoC and its subscales of meaningfulness, comprehensibility and manageability at T2 as outcome variables. The predictors are therapeutic alliance and the number of consultations (T1). Results: One hundred patients filled out all three SoC subscales at T1 and T2 and were treated by a psycho-oncologist. Therapeutic bond predicted the change in overall SoC (β = .34, t = 2.26, p = .026) and manageability (β = .47, t =3.02, p = .003). The number of consultations predicted overall SoC (β = .16, t = 2.05, p = .043), meaningfulness (β = .21, t = 2.51, p = .014) and manageability (β = .17, t = 2.07, p = .041). Conclusions: Our results suggest that part of successful tension management in PC is a good therapeutic bond and the number of needs-oriented consultations utilised. Background: Lynch syndrome carriers ('carriers') are presented with complex, emotionally laden choices regarding management of increased genetic cancer risks. Decision aids encourage active involvement in values‐based health decisions. This paper aimed to address the research question: How do Lynch syndrome carriers make sense of their chances of developing cancer, and what are the implications for providing support with decision making about genetic cancer risk management? Methods: Adult carriers were recruited through a genetics service or involvement with Lynch Syndrome UK. Semi‐structured interviews explored lived experiences of carriers' access to care with a focus on decision support. Themes were constructed using framework analysis. These were developed into a conceptual model with recommendations for codevelopment of improved information and support including a tailored decision aid to complement integrated healthcare. Results: Twenty participants included 12 women and eight men, half with a history of cancer. Six overarching themes were: (1) finding balance with Lynch; (2) living 'on higher alert'; (3) managing uncertainty: 'I've thought about it a lot'; (4) burden of responsibility: 'It's on me'; (5) access to joined‐up care and support: 'There's something missing'; and (6) influence/pressure from others. Conclusions: This qualitative interview study provided in‐depth insights from Lynch syndrome carriers about their lived experiences, informed by their values. Recommendations to empower carriers to make sense of genetic cancer risks and support decisions included accessible, trusted information, educated healthcare professionals, shared decision making, and joined‐up integrated care pathways complemented by tailored decision aids. The study aims to describe couples' changes in sexuality after non-metastatic breast cancer from a longitudinal perspective. Our research question was: how do couples experience the cancer-induced change in sexual frequency and what are the reasons evoked to explain this kind of change over time? Forty heterosexual couples participated in a semi-structured interview three months and two years after surgery. A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted on a specific question about sexuality from a larger interview guide. The results showed that couples follow multiple trajectories regarding sexuality after the onset of oncological treatment. Most couples experienced temporary or more lasting changes, mainly associated with altered body image and pain. Some stopped having sexual activities at the beginning of treatment but resumed sexuality two years later; others were unable to restore sexuality. However, some couples stayed sexually active all along the cancer journey, showing that cessation of any sexual activity is not inevitable. Sexuality represents a significant long-term issue for breast cancer survivors and their partners. Prompt treatment can prevent sexual difficulties from crystallizing, while preserving the individual well-being and the quality of the couple's relationship. Simple Summary: This research is suggested to address the significant psychological distress that cancer patients often experience during diagnosis and treatment, which can adversely affect their outcomes and care. Despite advancements in cancer treatments extending survival rates, the emergence of depression and anxiety as common comorbidities underscores the need for targeted interventions to improve patient well-being. The study aims to investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety among cancer patients and identify some of the associated risk factors. Advancements in cancer treatment and early detection have extended survival rates, transforming many cancers into chronic conditions. However, cancer diagnosis and treatment can trigger significant psychological distress, including depression and anxiety, impacting patient outcomes and care. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of and identify the risk factors for depression and anxiety among cancer patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted, including patients under the care of the oncology department at a tertiary medical center between June 2021 and October 2023. Depression and anxiety were assessed using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) short forms. Logistic regression analysis identified risk factors for depression and anxiety. The study population included 159 patients, with 40.3% reporting worsening mental health, but only about half of them received therapy. Among the study participants, 22.6% experienced symptoms of depression and 30.2% experienced symptoms of anxiety. Single-cancer patients and those with metastases were at increased risk for depression, while those with a disease duration of more than a year and patients with female-specific cancer were more likely to experience anxiety. Given the high prevalence of mental health deterioration in cancer patients, closer monitoring and validated assessment tools are essential to improve depression and anxiety diagnosis and facilitate early interventions. Fear of cancer recurrence remains unaddressed in guidelines for managing anxiety and depression in adult cancer survivors in the United States. To ensure comprehensive psychosocial care, guidelines are needed for the clinical management of fear of cancer recurrence, including recommendations for screening, referral, and treatment pathways. Design: A multi‐methods, single‐centre pilot comprising a quasi‐experimental pre‐/post‐test design and an exploratory qualitative study. Setting: A rural Australian hospital and health service. Participants: Men newly diagnosed with localised prostate cancer who were scheduled to undergo, or had undergone, radical or robotic prostatectomy surgery within the previous 3 months. Intervention: The intervention comprised a 12‐week virtual care program delivered via teleconference by a specialist nurse, using a pre‐existing connected care platform. The program was tailored to the post‐operative recovery journey targeting post‐operative care, psychoeducation, problem‐solving and goal setting. Main Outcome Measures: Primary outcome: program acceptability. Secondary outcomes: quality of life; prostate cancer‐related distress; insomnia severity; fatigue severity; measured at baseline (T1); immediately post‐intervention (T2); and 12 weeks post‐intervention (T3). Results: Seventeen participants completed the program. The program intervention showed very high levels (≥4/5) of acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility. At T1, 47% (n = 8) of men reported clinically significant psychological distress, which had significantly decreased by T3 (p = 0.020). There was a significant improvement in urinary irritative/obstructive symptoms (p = 0.030) and a corresponding decrease in urinary function burden (p = 0.005) from T1 to T3. Conclusions: This pilot has shown that a tailored nurse‐led virtual care program, incorporating post‐surgical follow‐up and integrated low‐intensity psychosocial care, is both acceptable to rural participants and feasible in terms of implementation and impact on patient outcomes. Objectives: To improve psychosocial care for oncology inpatients, we implemented screening for distress by means of distress thermometer (DT) at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Zurich in 2011. Since then, several screening barriers have been reported regarding the application of the DT. This study aimed to evaluate the distress screening process between 2012 and 2016 to identify barriers preventing sustainability.Methods: In this sequential explanatory mixed methods study, we synthesized the results of 2 quantitative retrospective descriptive studies and 1 qualitative focus group study. To compare and analyze the data, we used thematic triangulation.Results: Nurses screened 32% (N = 7034) of all newly admitted inpatients with the DT, and 47% of the screenings showed a distress level ≥5. Of these cases, 9.7% were referred to psycho-oncological services and 44.7% to social services. In 15.7% of these cases, nurses generated a psychosocial nursing diagnosis. In focus group interviews, nurses attributed the low screening rate to the following barriers: adaptation to patients' individual needs, patient-related barriers and resistance, timing, communication challenges, established referral practice, and lack of integration in the nursing process.Significance Of Results: To improve distress screening performance, the screening process should be tailored to patients' needs and to nurses' working conditions (e.g., timing, knowledge, and setting-specific factors). Simple Summary: The sexual well-being of women with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) syndrome is often overlooked by clinicians. The aim of the study is to analyze the correlation between HBOC syndrome itself and the potential risk of sexual dysfunction. Understanding this link could help improve clinical practices and the management and counseling of women, emphasizing the importance of openly addressing sexuality-related issues, providing a more targeted support to women affected by this syndrome. Background: Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) predisposes women to an increased risk mainly of breast and tubo-ovarian cancer. The aim of the study is to investigate whether being diagnosed with HBOC syndrome is itself a risk factor for sexual dysfunction. Methods: An ad hoc questionnaire, including baseline demographic and clinical data, and the Sexual Function Questionnaire 28 (SFQ28) were administered to HBOC female carriers (study group) and to a control group. Results: After propensity score matching (1:1), we enrolled 202 women, 101 in the study group and 101 in the control group. In a multivariate analysis, we finally found that menopausal status was the only risk factor for a significant low score in the domains Desire (HR 0.66; CI95% 0.47–0.93; p = 0.017), Arousal (Lubrication) (HR 0.52; CI95% 0.34–0.80; p = 0.003), Arousal (Cognitive) (HR 0.64; CI95% 0.44–0.95; p = 0.027), and Orgasm (HR 0.33; CI95% (0.16–0.70; p = 0.004), independent of risk-reducing surgery for gynecological malignancy. Psycho-oncology support is a protective factor for the Enjoyment domain (HR 1.38; CI95% 1.05–1.81; p = 0.022). Conclusions: HBOC syndrome itself does not affect SFQ28 domains, while menopausal status significantly influences sexual health, with potential mitigating effects of psycho-oncological support. Background: For patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors, early detection of immune‐related adverse events (irAEs) is critical for one's safety. To this end, a smartphone app (SOFIA) was developed that featured the assessment of electronic patient‐reported outcomes (ePROs) focusing on irAEs as well as a set of comprehensive supportive information. Its feasibility and preliminary efficacy were evaluated in a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Methods: Patients who received immune checkpoint inhibition therapy were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG) or a control group (CG; care as usual). During the 12‐week intervention period, IG patients used SOFIA to report twice weekly ePROs and receive cancer‐ and immunotherapy‐relevant contents. Before a patient's next clinical visit, the physician in charge was given the ePRO reports. The primary objective was to test the feasibility of SOFIA. Furthermore, the preliminary efficacy of SOFIA for health‐related quality of life (HRQOL), psychosocial outcomes, and medical data was examined. Clinical outcomes were assessed at baseline (T0), post‐intervention (T1), and a 3‐month follow‐up (T2). Results: Seventy‐one patients were randomized to the IG (n = 34) or the CG (n = 37). SOFIA showed high feasibility and acceptance. At T1, patients in the IG reported significantly better HRQOL and role functioning and less depression, distress, and appetite loss. No significant differences were revealed regarding medical data, the utilization of supportive care services, or survival. Conclusions: SOFIA showed high feasibility and acceptance and improved HRQOL and psychosocial outcomes. These results suggest further evaluation of efficacy in a large‐scale confirmatory multicenter RCT. An ehealth intervention (SOFIA) for patients with cancer undergoing immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors showed high feasibility and acceptance in the clinical routine. Results regarding preliminary efficacy revealed better health‐related quality of life and reduced psychosocial symptoms in the intervention group compared to the control group, which indicates the positive effects of SOFIA, and should be investigated in a confirmatory randomized controlled trial. Failure to identify and treat depression and anxiety affecting 10% of patients with cancer, increases the disease burden. This study aimed to assess the psychological well-being of newly diagnosed patients in a tertiary healthcare centre in Lebanon. In this cross-sectional study, data were collected for 187 adult patients, from medical records and interviews using standardised questionnaires (Personal health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and generalised anxiety disorder-7). Karnofsky performance status was also assessed, and incidence was calculated using descriptive statistics, chi-square, and T-tests. The rates of moderate or severe anxiety, minimal anxiety, mild depression, moderate or severe depression, and suicidality are 14.9%, 35.6%, 40.7% 22.7% and 6.2%, respectively. Participants with a past history of seeking help from mental health services (OR: 3.978, CI: (1.680–9.415), p = 0.002), those developing cancer-related complications (OR: 3.039, CI: (1.187–7.777), p = 0.020), and those who had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group of ≥2 (OR: 5.306, CI: (1.582–17.797), p = 0.007) were independently associated with depression (diagnosed with PHQ-9) in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Depression, frequently associated with cancer, significantly impacts health outcomes, necessitating effective treatments. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to synthesize and critically evaluate the evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for the efficacy of nurse-led psychological interventions in managing depression among adult cancer patients. It focuses on the unique contribution of these interventions to improving depression management in oncology care, an underrepresented area in the existing literature. We conducted a comprehensive search in databases including Scopus, Medline, CINAHL, and PsycINFO, applying strict criteria to select RCTs assessing nurse-led psychological interventions for depression in cancer patients. We used the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool to assess study quality. Out of 425 screened abstracts, nine papers describing seven distinct interventions involving 1463 participants were selected. The overall effect size estimate of −0.75 (95% confidence interval: −1.23 to −0.27) indicates significant effectiveness of these interventions in reducing depression compared to treatment as usual. Additionally, the calculated prediction interval highlights the variability in effectiveness across different settings, suggesting that contextual factors play a crucial role in the success of these interventions. The findings advocate for the integration of nurse-led psychological interventions into standard cancer care, highlighting their efficacy in improving depressive symptoms in adult cancer patients. These interventions show promise but require further refinement and research to optimize their effectiveness across diverse patient groups and healthcare settings. Background: Developing cancer in young adulthood is a non-normative life event and associated with adverse physical, social and psychological consequences. High psychological distress is common in AYA cancer patients including anxiety, depression or fear of recurrence. At the same time, it is well known that AYA often report unmet needs for support, particularly in terms of informational exchange and emotional support from peers in order to benefit from shared experiences and enhance self-efficacy. Especially in the AYA group, interactions with other same-aged cancer patients may represent an essential resource in terms of coping with the disease, as family members and friends are often overwhelmed and struggling with helplessness. Currently, there is a lack of professional support services using peer support (e.g. psycho-oncological support, aftercare consultations, social legal counselling) or evaluated peer support interventions in Germany. Our aim is to assess the effectiveness of the Peer2Me intervention for AYAs, in which acute patients (mentees) are accompanied by an AYA survivor (mentor) over a period of three months. Methods: A prospective Comprehensive Cohort Design with repeated measures will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of Peer2Me for AYA. A sample of 180 patients in active cancer treatment aged 18 to 39 years will be enrolled and randomized to the intervention or control condition (a single AYA-specific consultation). Following mentor training, mentees and mentors are matched by diagnosis, age, and gender. The primary outcome is self-efficacy; secondary outcomes include measures of anxiety, depression, health literacy, life satisfaction and social support life. Outcomes will be measured at baseline before the intervention (t1), immediately after completion of the three-month intervention (t2) and three months after completion the intervention (t3). For the final analyses, we will use an intention-to-treat approach (ITT) and compare patients in the assigned treatment groups. Discussion: Peer2Me might be an important addition to existing professional psychosocial support services for young cancer patients. At the end of the study, a psycho-oncological intervention for young cancer patients undergoing acute treatment should be available, from which both mentors and mentees could benefit. The long-term continuity of Peer2Me should be ensured through collaboration with different partners. The essential components of survivorship care are (1) surveillance for cancer recurrence, (2) surveillance for new primary cancers, (3) management of physical and psychological long-term effects of treatment, (4) prevention or mitigation of late treatment effects, and (5) coordination of care between the oncology team and primary care clinicians. Recommendations for surveillance to detect recurrence vary with cancer type and stage at diagnosis. Screening for new primary cancers is the same as for the general population. Although many cancer survivors do not undergo recommended surveillance or screening, family physicians can encourage and facilitate adherence. Family physicians should also monitor and manage the physical and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and treatment, such as depression, lymphedema, pain, and sexual dysfunction. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for cancer survivors, often as a long-term effect of cancer treatments. Clinicians should counsel patients on cessation of tobacco and alcohol use, participation in recommended levels of physical activity, and adherence to optimal nutrition recommendations. Background: People living with cancer, or carers who are from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex or asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities experience unique information and support needs. Accessible technology-based resources providing tailored support are required to promote wellbeing, however this is a growing area of research requiring further investigation. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of healthcare services among people living with cancer, and their carers, who belong to sexual or gender diverse communities (LGBTQIA+), and identify how smartphone applications (apps) could support people from LGBTQIA + communities. Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study where people living with cancer or carers from LGBTQIA + communities participated in phone interviews. Participants were recruited across Australia via social media advertisements, LGBTQIA + medical practices, and cancer advocacy groups. Participants were asked questions about their experiences, and were provided with screenshots of an existing app and asked to provide feedback on content and inclusiveness. Transcripts were coded and codes grouped together to form similar and concepts. Inductive and deductive analyses were used to create themes. Results: 13 patients (mean age 56 (SD:13)), and three carers (mean age 64 (SD:19)) completed phone interviews. The majority of participants identified their gender as female (patients n = 9, carers 3), and their sexuality as gay or lesbian (patients n = 10, carers n = 3). Four themes were created: (1) navigating disclosure in healthcare, described emotional challenges surrounding disclosure; (2) the power of positive experiences with clinicians, described positive interactions and gaps in care from clinicians; (3) impact of gender and sexuality on informal support, outlined support received from informal network and gaps in support, and; (4) opportunities to increase inclusivity in smartphone apps, generated ideas on how apps can be tailored to meet needs identified. Conclusion: Disclosure of gender or sexuality, and interactions with clinicians had the potential to impact participants' experience of cancer care. Gaps in informal networks pointed at how to better support LGBTQIA + communities, and identified opportunities for inclusion in an app that will be tailored and trialled for this community. Objective: Patients with cancer experience significant psychosocial distress. Stressors include interpersonal difficulties like loneliness, isolation, thwarted belongingness, communication impediments, and conflicts. Interventions are required that address their specific psychosocial needs. Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a promising concept for the treatment of psychosocial distress associated with cancer because it addresses patients' interactions and role transformations. This review aims to provide an overview of the current evidence regarding interventions for patients with cancer based on IPT. Methods: A systematic review following PRISM guidelines was conducted, including randomized controlled trials of IPT-based interventions in patients with cancer, assessing effects on distress, depression, and anxiety. Results: Eight studies were included, sampling 390 patients in total. Seven out of eight studies assessed exclusively women with breast cancer. Two studies described IPT interventions and showed stronger improvement in depression and anxiety compared to TAU and equal improvement in depression compared to other psychotherapy interventions. Six studies described remote Interpersonal Counselling (IPC). One found remote IPC to be superior to control conditions regarding depression, and one found remote IPC to be superior to attention control, but not active control conditions. No study found remote IPC to be superior to control conditions regarding distress. Discussion: There are few randomized controlled trials of IPT for patients with cancer. Results regarding depression and anxiety are promising for in-person IPT, but mixed for remote IPC. Conclusion: The review suggests in-person IPT, but not remote IPC, may yield benefits for patients with cancer. Background: Continued smoking after a cancer diagnosis can be associated with lower treatment tolerance, poorer outcomes, and reduced quality of life compared to non-smoking cancer patients or to those who have quit. Yet about 60% of patients continue to smoke after being diagnosed and find it difficult to quit. To address this problem, it is necessary to identify current and past smoking patterns (e.g., frequency of use, types of tobacco products) and determine whether there is motivation to quit. Similarly, factors associated with continued smoking should be identified. These data will provide the basis for the development of smoking cessation programs tailored to the needs of cancer patients. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to cancer patients older than 18 years in a German Comprehensive Cancer Center. Participating cancer patients were divided into three main groups: 1) patients who stopped smoking before being diagnosed with cancer (Ex-before); 2) patients who stopped smoking after a cancer diagnosis (Ex-after); and 3) patients who currently smoke cigarettes (CS). Sociodemographic, medical, and psychosocial data were collected, as well as smoking patterns and the motivation to quit smoking. Results: About half of patients (51%) who smoked before diagnosis continue to smoke after a cancer diagnosis. Being diagnosed with a tobacco-related cancer type was associated with a decreased probability of continued smoking. Patients with tobacco-related tumors and receiving positive support in burdensome situations were more likely to have a higher cigarette dependence. Of all CS, 59.1% had intention to quit, and 22.7% reported having taken action to quit. The support by a smoking cessation program was considered important. CS were willing to spend up to €100 for support and were open to multiple sessions per week, group sessions, one-on-one sessions and/or online support. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of educating cancer patients about the consequences of smoking and to provide them with support to quit. Identified risk factors may further help to recognize cancer patients with high risk of continued smoking after diagnosis. Objectives: This Special issue of Psycho‐Oncology highlights examples of the application of implementation science to research in psycho‐oncology. The aim is to demonstrate the different ways that implementation science is being used to generate evidence that can more readily translate evidence into changes in clinical practice. We hope this issue fosters greater interest in using the tools of implementation science to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Methods: The papers in the issue were selected from among those that responded to a call for submissions on the application of implementation science frameworks and methods to issues in psycho‐oncology. The focus included but was not limited to research on: understanding barriers and facilitators of intervention/practice adoption; assessing implementation outcomes, evaluating implementation strategies, and improving behavioural and/or clinical outcomes. Results: The 11 papers in this issue were grouped for presentation purposes into four common topics: barriers and facilitators to implementation; feasibility as a key implementation outcome; the design, selection and adaptation of implementation strategies; and building the foundation for psycho‐oncology research translation via systematic reviews that focus on implementation strategy design. Conclusion: These papers demonstrate the breadth of current applications of implementation science to research in psycho‐oncology. Alongside the studies featured in this issue, including cost‐effectiveness analyses, tests of nationally‐focused strategies and proactive planning for adaptation, we look forward to other innovations that will promote further growth of both disciplines to improve the integration of psycho‐oncology interventions across healthcare systems. Objective: To identify predictors of sexual satisfaction in patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers. Methods: Cross‐sectional study using baseline survey data from a randomized controlled trial in six European countries. Patients with advanced cancer and their family caregiver completed measures on sexual satisfaction (one item from Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy ‐ General questionnaire for patients and Caregiver Quality of Life Index‐Cancer scale for family caregivers) and health‐related characteristics. Multivariable linear regressions were performed for all predictors (identified based on literature) with sexual satisfaction as dependent variable. Results: The sample comprised 431 patient‐family caregiver dyads. Patients with prostate or gynecological cancer reported lower sexual satisfaction (respectively B = −0.267 95% CI: −1.674, −0.594 and B = −0.196, 95% CI −2.103, −0.452). Higher emotional (B = 0.278, 95% CI 0.024, 0.057) physical (B = 0.305, 95% CI 0.012, 0.025) and social functioning (B = 0.151, 95% CI 0.001, 0.013), global health (B = 0.356, 95% CI 0.007, 0.013) and social wellbeing (B = 0.161, 95% CI 0.013, 0.082) among patients were associated with higher sexual satisfaction. Among family caregivers, sexual satisfaction was lower with increased age (B = −0.142, 95% CI −0.022, −0.004). Higher emotional functioning (B = 0.027, 95% CI 0.011, 0.043) and quality of life (B = 0.165, 95% CI −0.165, 0.716) were associated with higher sexual satisfaction in family caregivers. Conclusions: The results underscore that sexual wellbeing of patients and family caregivers is related to health related factors in physical, emotional, and social domains. Objectives: Patients with advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) have multiple concurrent physical and psychological symptoms. This study aimed to explore the relationship between anxiety, depression, and symptom burden in advanced CRC. Methods: A multicenter cross‐sectional study was conducted in 10 cancer centers from geographically and economically diverse sites in China. A total of 454 patients with advanced CRC completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory. Multiple regression analysis was applied to explore the relationship between anxiety, depression and symptom burden. Results: About one‐third of the patients showed symptoms of anxiety or depression. Patients with anxiety or depression reported significantly higher symptom burden than those without (p < 0.001). Patients with anxiety or depression reported a higher proportion of moderate‐to‐severe (MS) symptom number than those without (p < 0.001). About 52% of the patients with anxiety or depression reported at least three MS symptoms. The prevalence of MS symptoms was ranging from 7.3% (shortness of breath) to 22% (disturbed sleep), and in patients with anxiety or depression was 2–10 times higher than in those without (p < 0.001). Disease stage (β = −2.55, p = 0.003), anxiety (β = 15.33, p < 0.001), and depression (β = 13.63, p < 0.001) were associated with higher symptom burden. Conclusions: Anxiety and depression in patients with advanced cancer correlated with higher symptom burden. Findings may lead oncology professionals to pay more attention to unrecognized and untreated psychological symptoms in symptom management for advanced cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Symptoms of cancer‐related fatigue (CRF) can have a significant impact on patients' quality of life and treatment adherence. We aimed to investigate the relationship between CRF and multiple psychosocial and somatic indicators within a large mixed cancer sample. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study, N = 1787 outpatients with cancer were assessed for CRF, pain, anxiety, and depression using validated screening instruments. We further obtained clinical parameters (Hb, CRP, creatinine, leukocytes, ASAT, and ALAT), sociodemographic data (age, gender, income, education level, marital status, parenthood, and living area), and lifestyle factors. Multivariate linear regression models were applied to estimate the impact of each indicator on CRF. Results: Overall, 90.6% of patients experienced some CRF, with 14.8% experiencing severe CRF. No gender difference was found in the prevalence of CRF. Patients with higher levels of pain, depressive symptoms, and lower Hb levels had significantly higher levels of CRF (ps <0.001). Lower levels of CRF were observed in patients who had children (p = 0.03), had less education (p < 0.001), and were physically active for more than 2 h per week before their oncological diagnosis (p = 0.014). The latter was only a significant indicator in the male subsample. Conclusion: The present results demonstrate a high prevalence of CRF and highlight that not only somatic and psychosocial factors, but also lifestyle factors prior to diagnosis appear to be associated with the etiology and persistence of CRF. Introduction Burnout has been widely studied among oncology health care providers such as nurses and doctors. However, it is a less explored but highly prevalent factor in family caregivers of patients with cancer. Objective The study aimed to understand the construct of burnout among health care providers and family caregivers of patients with cancer, through three objectives: (1) to distinguish burnout between health care providers and family caregivers; (2) to predict burnout based on measurable characteristics, namely, perceived stress, psychological morbidity, well-being, problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and avoidant coping; and (3) to find out the levels of burnout (low, medium, and high) in health care providers and family caregivers. Materials and Methods It is a cross-sectional study conducted among the health care providers and family caregivers of patients with cancer. The measures used in the study were the Professional Quality of Life scale, 12-Item General Health Questionnaire, Perceived Stress Scale, 5-Item World Health Organization Well-Being Index, Brief COPE inventory, and a sociodemographic details form. Results The study found a statistically significant difference in the mean burnout of health care providers (p = 0.027) and family caregivers. Study variables such as perceived stress and avoidant coping positively predicted burnout, whereas well-being and emotion-focused coping negatively predicted burnout. The study also found that a majority of the participants fell into the category of "medium" level of burnout. Conclusion While enhancing well-being and employing adaptive coping styles can act as the mitigating factors to burnout, the existence of stress and maladaptive styles of coping can prove counterproductive in dealing with burnout in work environments. Introduction Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women. In the last few decades, the outcome of breast cancer has improved significantly in terms of survivorship and quality of life. However, it is crucial that alongside managing the disease, breast cancer services address and manage associated or co-occurring psychiatric illnesses such as acute stress reactions, procedural anxieties, adjustment issues, depression, and fear of recurrence, which leads to an overall better experience of the patient. Objective There is a paucity of data on the patterns of psychiatric morbidity in patients with breast cancer who access psycho-oncology services in a naturalistic setup outside research studies from India. The current study focused on exploring this alongside reporting the common treatment methods adopted for this group of patients. Materials and Methods Real-life data from electronic patient records were retrospectively reviewed for all patients with breast cancer accessing integrated psycho-oncology services in a tertiary care hospital in India over three 3 years (2018–2020). The various psychiatric morbidities were reported, along with associated cancer demographic data, disease characteristics, and treatment details. Results Of all the breast cancer patients (n = 338) in the calendar years 2018 to 2020 reviewed by psycho-oncology services, the most common psychiatric diagnosis was depressive illness (n = 100, 29.6%), followed by adjustment disorders (n = 68, 20.1%) and anxiety (n = 66, 19.5%). There was a significant minority with serious enduring mental illnesses such as schizophrenia (n = 11, 3.3%) and bipolar disorders (n = 14, 4.1%). On the other hand, 14.2% (n = 48) of the patients with breast cancer who attended Psycho-oncology outpatient department did not have any psychiatric syndrome. Around 16.3% of patients could be managed without a prescription for any medications and almost half of the patients needed only one psychotropic medicine. Psychological interventions were used for 45.6% of patients. Conclusion Integrated psycho-oncology services in a cancer hospital catering to patients with breast cancer help in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and addressing the mental health needs of patients. (1) Receiving an oncological diagnosis involves countless physical and mental challenges for those who become ill. In addition to this, developmental activities are put on hold when a parent becomes ill, significantly impairing children's normal growth and development. The purpose of this review is to highlight the psychological impact of cancer on children, with particular attention to differences based on the age of the child and the stage of the parent's disease. (2) Articles published on PubMed up until October 2023 were searched. Qualitative and quantitative studies were included in this review after an evaluation of the full text. The study selection process was undertaken by two researchers, and articles for which there was unanimous agreement between researchers were included in the review. (3) Children's psycho-emotional responses differ based on their age and the disease stage. In general, good communication and a supportive family environment that understands everyone's needs seem to constitute important protective factors that favor the adaptation of the entire family to the disease. (4) The family, as an evolutionary system, finds itself facing phases typical of development. Knowing the variables that intervene in the process of adaptation to the disease will allow us to design specific and differentiated clinical interventions based on the needs of not only the patient but also the entire family. Introduction: This study explores the emotional impact of virtual forest therapy delivered through audio-visual recordings shown to patients in the oncology waiting rooms, focusing on whether simulated forest walks can positively influence patients' emotional states compared to traditional waiting room stimuli. Methods: The study involved 117 participants from a diverse group of oncology patients in the outpatient clinic waiting room at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute. Using a partially randomized controlled trial design, the study assessed basic emotional dimensions--valence and arousal--as well as specific psychological states such as thought control, sadness, anxiety, and pain. This assessment used the Self-Assessment Manikin and the modified Emotional Thermometer before and after participants watched three video types (forest, sea, news). Baseline stress levels were measured using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6). Results: Participants exposed to forest and sea videos reported significant improvements in emotional valence and reduced arousal, suggesting a calming and uplifting effect. No significant changes were observed in the control and news groups. Secondary outcomes related to anxiety, sadness, and pain showed no significant interaction effects, though small but significant main effects of time on these variables were noted. Discussion: The findings suggest that videos of forest and sea can be a beneficial intervention in the oncology waiting rooms by enhancing patients' emotional well-being. Background: Despite remarkable progress, cancer remains a life-threatening disease for millions of people worldwide, also resulting in significant psychosocial limitations. High-quality, comprehensive cancer care requires patient and family involvement and the provision of needs-based, targeted psychosocial services. Although progress has been made in understanding the occurrence of mental comorbidity and psychosocial distress in cancer patients, comparatively little is known about the course of psychological comorbidity and psychosocial distress in early survivorship among patients and their families. We therefore aim to estimate the prevalence of mental disorders according to the DSM-5, psychosocial distress, perceived needs for psychosocial support and utilization of psychosocial support offers in newly diagnosed cancer patients and their relatives, taking into account potential contributing biopsychosocial factors for the occurrence of psychological comorbidity. Methods/design: This study follows a prospective multi-center observational cohort design across four measurement time points: within 2 months after cancer diagnosis (t1), and in the follow-up period at 6 months (t2), at 12 months (t3), and at 18 months (t4) after t1. Patients older than 18 years who have a confirmed initial diagnosis of a malignant solid tumor and are scheduled for cancer treatment at one of the participating cancer centers are eligible for study participation. Relatives of eligible patients are also eligible for study participation if they are older than 18 years. Patients are interviewed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Disorders (SCID-5-CV). In addition, patients and relatives receive a set of validated questionnaires at each measurement time point, covering comorbid conditions and functional performance, perceived psychological distress and quality of life, partnership aspects and social relationships, supportive care needs and use of psychosocial support services, health literacy, and health behavior and meaning in life. Discussion: This prospective multi-center observational cohort study has a major focus on increasing quality of care and quality of life in cancer survivors through providing rigorous longitudinal data for the development and implementation of target group-specific psychosocial support services. Background: Pediatric cancer patients' oncology teams regularly take on a primary care role, but due to the urgent nature of cancer treatment, developmental screenings may be deprioritized. This leaves patients at risk of developmental diagnoses and referrals being delayed. Aims: Clarify the current developmental surveillance and screening practices of one pediatric oncology team. Materials and methods: Researchers reviewed charts for patients (n = 66) seen at a pediatric oncology clinic in a suburban academic medical center to determine engagement in developmental screening (including functioning around related areas such as speech, neurocognition, etc.) and referrals for care in these areas. Results: Developmental histories were collected from all patients through admission history and physical examination (H&P), but there was no routinized follow‐up. Physicians did not conduct regular developmental screening per American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines for any patients but identified n = 3 patients with needs while the psychology team routinely surveilled all patients seen during this time (n = 41) and identified n = 18 patients as having delays. Discussion: Physicians did not routinely screen for development needs beyond H&P and were inconsistent in developmental follow‐up/referrals. Integrated psychologists were key in generating referrals for developmental‐based care. However, many oncology patients were not seen by psychologists quickly or at all, creating a significant gap in care during a crucial developmental period. Conclusion: The case is made for further routinization of ongoing developmental screening in pediatric oncology care. There needs to be a consensus regarding the definition of body image in oncology the literature. This lack of agreement leads to conflicting results in psychosocial interventions aimed to improve body image among breast cancer patients. Through an instrumentalist approach, this systematic review aims to analyze how body image as a concept is described and operationalized in breast cancer studies with the focus to enhance body image through psychosocial interventions. Databases were searched in October 2022 and updated in February 2023 to find empirical studies reporting psychosocial intervention targeting body image efficacy. The results from 24 studies show many similarities and differences between the definitions (e.g. characteristics) and questionnaires (e.g. Cronbach's alpha coefficient) used to evaluate this concept. Most definitions include thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to body image. Finally, the psychosocial implications are discussed. Background: Cancer-related cognitive dysfunction (CRCD) is a major functional disorder in patients with cancer. This central nervous dysfunction is found in up to 60% of patients after tumour therapy, often significantly limits the quality of life, and significantly impedes participation in working life. For this reason, diagnosis and treatment of CRCD are of central importance. This narrative review is intended to provide an overview and support for practical clinical care with regard to diagnostics and therapeutic options. Summary: In Germany, CRCD has received insufficient attention in clinical practice due to the lack of guidelines for diagnosis and therapy. The pathophysiology is complex and cannot be explained by chemotherapeutic treatment alone. In addition to the tumour disease as such and the tumour therapy, psychological factors such as anxiety and depression as well as sleep disorders also play a significant role. Today, it is known that in addition to age, molecular genetic changes also have an effect on cognitive function. Morphologically, CRCD can be located in the frontal cortex and hippocampus. In addition to easy-to-use screening instruments such as the visual analogue scale, validated questionnaires such as the Questionnaire of Subjectively Experienced Deficits in Attention (FEDA) developed in Germany are also available. These allow the suspected diagnosis to be substantiated and the patient to be referred to further neurological, neuropsychological, or psycho-oncological diagnostics. Within the framework of further neuropsychological diagnostics, the International Cognition and Cancer Task Force (ICCTF) recommends testing learning, memory, processing speed, and executive functions. From the authors' point of view, a step-by-step diagnosis is recommended in order to avoid overdiagnosis. In clinical practice, graduation according to the "Common Terminology Criteria for Adversity Events" (CTCAE Version 5.0) is suitable for assessing the degree of severity. Cognitive training should be behaviourally oriented and include regular practice of cognitive skills to restore attention, psychomotor speed, memory, and executive functions. The best evidence is currently found for web-based training programmes that can be used by the patient at home. There is also evidence for mindfulness training and physical exercises. In particular, the combination of these three therapeutic elements currently seems to be the optimal treatment strategy for CRCD. Key Messages: Cognitive dysfunction should be given much more attention in the clinical care of cancer patients. Diagnostic tools for this purpose and evidence-based therapeutic interventions are available. In the future, networks should be created that allow for better care of patients with CRCD. Objective: To evaluate patient preference for short (gist) or detailed/extensive decision aids (DA) for genetic testing at ovarian cancer (OC) diagnosis. Design: Cohort study set within recruitment to the Systematic Genetic Testing for Personalised Ovarian Cancer Therapy (SIGNPOST) study (ISRCTN: 16988857). Setting: North‐East London Cancer Network (NELCN) population. Population/Sample: Women with high‐grade non‐mucinous epithelial OC. Methods: A more detailed DA was developed using patient and stakeholder input following the principles/methodology of IPDAS (International Patients Decision Aids Standards). Unselected patients attending oncology clinics evaluated both a pre‐existing short and a new long DA version and then underwent mainstreaming genetic testing by a cancer clinician. Appropriate inferential descriptive and regression analyses were undertaken. Main outcome measures: Satisfaction, readability, understanding, emotional well‐being and preference for long/short DA. Results: The mean age of patients was 66 years (interquartile range 11), and 85% were White British ethnicity. Of the participants, 74% found DAs helpful/useful in decision‐making. Women reported higher levels of satisfaction (86% versus 58%, p < 0.001), right amount of information provided (76.79% versus49.12%, p < 0.001) and improved understanding (p < 0.001) with the long DA compared with the short DA. There was no statistically significant difference in emotional outcomes (feeling worried/concerned/reassured/upset) between 'short' and 'long' DA; 74% of patients preferred the long DA and 24% the short DA. Patients undergoing treatment (correlation coefficient (coef) = 0.603; 95% CI 0.165–1.041, p = 0.007), those with recurrence (coef = 0.493; 95% CI 0.065–0.92, p = 0.024) and older women (coef = 0.042; 95% CI 0.017–0.066, p = 0.001) preferred the short DA. Ethnicity did not affect outcomes or overall preference for long/short DA. Conclusions: A longer DA in OC patients has higher satisfaction without increasing emotional distress. Emotional well-being plays a crucial role in the quality of life of oncology patients. This study aims to explore the dynamics of emotional states in oncology patients based on the stage of their disease, shedding light on the emotional challenges they face. Background: Depressive symptoms are expected consequences following a diagnosis of breast cancer and have a detrimental effect on the prognosis of the disease. Aim: This study aimed to detect the benefits of adding the antidepressant drugs to the usual supportive psychotherapy provided by the oncology team to depressed breast cancer patients. Methods: 400 breast cancer patients were screened for depression to reach the sample size (130) of depressed cancer patients, they were assessed for the presence of depression using SCID-I. Then, 130 depressed patients who had breast cancer were randomly categorized into two groups; Group I (65) received both of antidepressant medication (Mirtazapine) and usual supportive psychotherapy by the oncology team, while the other group; Group II (65) were subjected to the usual supportive psychotherapy alone with three months follow up. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, (DSM-IV, SCID-I): was used to confirm a diagnosis of major depressive disorder. Initial assessment and after three months the two groups were reassessed specifically at the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), as well as the scale for quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: Statistically significant difference (p-value = 0.021, 0.032) between studied groups (group I and group II) as regard depression and anxiety domains of HADS respectively,as well as the (WHOQOL) .Also a statistically significant association was revealed between depression severity and anxiety severity with total mastectomy (p=0.001, p<0.001 respectively). Conclusion: Adding the antidepressant drugs to the usual supportive psychotherapy provided by the oncology team have better improvement of depressed breast cancer patients than using psychotherapy alone, as well as improve their quality of life. Background: Fear of progression (FOP) is a common and significant concern among cancer patients, encompassing worries about cancer progression during active treatment. Elevated levels of FOP can be dysfunctional. This study aims to assess the efficacy of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-based intervention on FOP, anxiety sensitivity (AS), and quality of life (QOL) in breast cancer patients. Methods: A clinical trial was conducted involving 80 stage I-III active-treatment breast cancer patients with a score greater than 34 on the Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form scale. These patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either an intervention group, which received weekly 70-min sessions of 5-ACT-bsed group-therapy, or a control group that received usual treatment. Variables including FOP, AS, QOL, and ACT-related factors were assessed using ASQ, QLQ-C30, Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire, and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II at three time points: baseline, post-intervention, and 3-month follow-up. The efficacy of the intervention was evaluated using mixed model analysis across all time-points. Results: The fidelity and acceptability of the ACT-based manual were confirmed using significant methods. A significant reduction in FOP was observed only in the ACT group at post-intervention (P-valueACT < 0.001; Cohen dACT = 1.099). Furthermore, the ACT group demonstrated a more significant reduction in FOP at follow-up. Furthermore, all secondary and ACT-related variables, except for the physical symptoms subscale, showed significant improvement in the ACT group compared to the control group. Conclusions: Our ACT-based manual showed promise for reducing FOP, AS, and improving QOL, and ACT-related variables in breast cancer patients 3 months following the intervention. Introduction: Cancer diagnoses are constantly increasing in clinical practice. Therefore, more and more patients are interested in how they can actively participate in the process of treatment. Spirituality represents a hidden issue of the population, which counts as a branch of complementary and alternative treatment. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate whether there are associations between spirituality and demographic and psychosocial factors, as well as religious beliefs, in cancer patients. Methods: We conducted a survey with 451 participants in 10 oncology centers between March and July 2021. A composition of the following 9 different questionnaires was used to collect data on spirituality, demographics, resilience, self-efficiency, life satisfaction, and sense of coherence: Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being (FACIT-Sp12), General Life Satisfaction Short Scale (L-1), Resilienzskala Kurzform (RS-13), Sense of Coherence Scale – Leipziger Kurzform (SOC-L9), Allgemeine Selbstwirksamkeit Kurzskala (AKSU), Adolescent Food Habits Checklist, Likert-Scale of daily activities, questionnaire of the Working group Prävention und Integrative Onkologie (PRiO), and personal opinion on the cause of the disease. Calculated data and analyzed group differences using ANOVA Bonferroni were used to test associations between spirituality and the variables studied. For more detailed examination of spirituality, we took a closer look at the different components of spirituality – peace, meaning, and faith – and their relation to each other (three-factor spirituality analyses). Results: Higher spirituality scores in total as well as meaning, peace, and faith were each associated with higher levels of resilience and life satisfaction. Higher religious belief was found to be associated with higher spiritual attitudes. High personal self-efficiency was found in people with higher spiritual beliefs in general as well as higher meaning and peace. Meaning and peace emerge as essential components of spiritual well-being and show a stronger association with expressions of general spirituality than faith. Conclusion: Spirituality takes a crucial role among the resources of life-threatening diseases. As such, further research is needed to expand and integrate patient options into a modernized concept of care. Our data indicate that higher spiritual well-being is associated with a more tolerant approach to illness. Thus, addressing spiritual needs in therapy is associated with better psychological adjustment to the individual situation and reduces negative distress. Patients with oncological diseases are very vulnerable to the action of psychological, physical and toxic stressors, requiring active monitoring by a multidisciplinary team. Quality of life and general well-being depend largely on early detection and the integration into case management of all aspects that influence the physical and mental health of these patients. In the context of the development of liaison psychiatry and psycho-oncology, this literature review emphasizes the importance of introducing psychotropic medication as soon as possible in combination with palliative medication to increase the quality of life of the terminally ill cancer patient. Based on the existing data in the literature, the main symptoms that require attention from the mental health specialists integrated into the team that ensures the case management of the oncological patient are pain, sleep disorders, lack of appetite, asthenia, anxiety, and depression. The initiation of psychotropic treatment in patients with oncological conditions must be early and must take into account all the somatic, psychological, social and pharmacological dimensions. In conclusion, the psychiatrist, as part of the multidisciplinary team that provides medical assistance to the oncological patient, is responsible for the early detection of psychiatric symptoms associated with the oncological condition, but also for initiating psychotropic medication as quickly as possible, along with monitoring its effectiveness and tolerability throughout the treatment.
