A study conducted by investigators from Fujian Medical University in China examined the association between certain genetic variations in the XRCC1 gene and the response to radiation therapy and prognosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The study included 158 patients with NPC who received radiation therapy at Fujian Cancer Hospital. The researchers found no statistically significant association between the genetic variations in the XRCC1 gene and the severity of acute radiation-induced injury or prognosis. However, there was a tendency for the AA genotype of XRCC1-Arg399Gln to be associated with worse progression-free survival.
