This article focuses on Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who was sworn in on Feb. 6, 2006 as the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada. Harper is one of the youngest Prime Ministers Canada has had, and his forthright nature may shock the country. Although his Conservative Party has a minority 124 sears in the 308-seat House of Commons, Stephens is resolved to fulfill his campaign pledges. Those pledges include a clean-government accountability act, a cut in the GST, guarantees on health-care waiting times, and direct cash payments to families for child care.
