Abstract: Hypocalcaemia produced by CT is assumed to result from its action on bone. Direct and indirect evidences suggest that, in addition to the inhibitory effect of CT on bone resorption, this hormone also increases bone formation. Previous studies in our laboratory have demonstrated that the extent of CT action on isolated bone cells is directly related to the concentration of calcium in the medium (3). We were able to show that, in response to CT, cultured bone cells accumulate calcium during the first two weeks of culture.
