Unlike conventional CPU caches, non-datapath caches, such as host-side flash caches which are extensively used as storage caches, have distinct requirements. While every cache miss results in a cache update in a conventional cache, non-datapath caches allow for the flexibility of selective caching, i.e., the option of not having to update the cache on each miss. We propose a new, generalized, bimodal caching algorithm, Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO), for managing non-datapath caches. Being generalized has the benefit of allowing any datapath cache replacement policy, such as LRU, ARC, or LIRS, to be augmented by FOMO to make these datapath caching algorithms better suited for non-datapath caches. Operating in two states, FOMO is selective—it selectively disables cache insertion and replacement depending on the learned behavior of the workload. FOMO is lightweight and tracks inexpensive metrics in order to identify these workload behaviors effectively. FOMO is evaluated using three different cache replacement policies against the current state-of-the-art non-datapath caching algorithms, using five different storage system workload repositories (totaling 176 workloads) for six different cache size configurations, each sized as a percentage of each workload's footprint. Our extensive experimental analysis reveals that FOMO can improve upon other non-datapath caching algorithms across a range of production storage workloads, while also reducing the write rate. Data caching is a promising technique to alleviate the data traffic burden from the backhaul and minimize data access delay. However, the cache capacity constraint poses a significant challenge to obtaining content through the cache resource that degrades the caching performance. In this paper, we propose a novel two-tier caching mechanism for data caching on mobile user equipment (UE) and the small base station (SBS) level in ultra-dense 6G heterogeneous networks for reducing data access failure via cache resources. The two-tier caching enables users to retrieve their desired content from cache resources through device-to-device (D2D) communications from neighboring users or the serving SBS. The cache-enabled UE exploits millimeter-wave (mmWave)-based D2D communications, utilizing line-of-sight (LoS) links for high-speed data transmission to content-demanding mobile UE within a limited connection time. In the event of D2D communication failures, a dual-mode hybrid system, combining mmWave and microwave μ Wave technologies, is utilized to ensure effective data transmission between the SBS and UE to fulfill users' data demands. In the proposed framework. the data transmission speed is optimized through mmWave signals in line-of-sight (LoS) conditions. In non-LoS scenarios, the system switches to μ Wave mode for obstacle-penetrating signal transmission. Subsequently, we propose a reinforcement learning (RL) approach to optimize cache decisions through the approximation of the Q action-value function. The proposed technique undergoes iterative learning, adapting to dynamic network conditions to enhance the content placement policy and minimize delay. Fog computing (FC) is a concept that encompasses cloud paradigm-like amenities to the edge of the network. The fog layer that complements the cloud-based concept aids in strengthening the standards of services (QoS) in time-sensitive activities. One such application of FC arises in the deployment of content delivery networks for reducing the latency in transferring content to customers and enhancing the user experience. This paper presents a fog-based system where fog nodes act as caches for content storage. Appropriate placement of cache nodes is important for fast content distribution to users and maintaining the QoS. Another challenge is to minimize energy expenditure while deploying caches at scale. To deal with these issues, a Connected Dominating Set (CDS) and popularity-based caching strategy in content distribution fog networks are suggested in this work. The content is sorted based on its past popularity and then CDS based rules have been developed to recommend the most ideal fog nodes (FNs) to place popular content or files. The selection of fog nodes as caches is performed based on factors of storage capacity, energy consumption, and user density (i.e., the number of neighbors of a fog node). Experiment outcomes authenticate the efficiency of the anticipated scheme without caching and random method of cache placement. In comparison to the without caching and random method, the proposed method produces better fog nodes as cache nodes, incurs a lower energy consumption and consumes less bandwidth. With the easy access to mobile networks and the proliferation of video applications, video traffic is occupying a great portion of the network traffic, which poses a new challenge of how to alleviate the heavy backhaul traffic and ensure the high quality of experience for video services. As a promising solution towards addressing this challenge, video caching in edge networks has recently received significant attention, which mostly considers the video popularity and the user preference for the video. However, few studies consider the user behavior and the user preference for different parts of the video that indeed have an essential impact on caching efficiency. Hence, this article proposes a new caching and resource scheduling scheme for adaptive bitrate videos by incorporating these fine-grained factors. We first model the video service problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem, which can be divided into a cache placement problem and an online resource scheduling problem. Then, we design efficient algorithms based on several techniques, including greedy strategy, relaxation, and rounding, to solve the two problems. Extensive experimental results based on two real-world datasets show that the proposed solution achieves superior performance compared with several state-of-the-art caching approaches. Data is growing quickly due to a significant increase in social media applications. Today, billions of people use an enormous amount of data to access the Internet. The backbone network experiences a substantial load as a result of an increase in users. Users in the same region or company frequently ask for similar material, especially on social media platforms. The subsequent request for the same content can be satisfied from the edge if stored in proximity to the user. Applications that require relatively low latency can use Content Delivery Network (CDN) technology to meet their requirements. An edge and the data center constitute the CDN architecture. To fulfill requests from the edge and minimize the impact on the network, the requested content can be buffered closer to the user device. Which content should be kept on the edge is the primary concern. The cache policy has been optimized using various conventional and unconventional methods, but they have yet to include the timestamp beside a video request. The 24-h content request pattern was obtained from publicly available datasets. The popularity of a video is influenced by the time of day, as shown by a time-based video profile. We present a cache optimization method based on a time-based pattern of requests. The problem is described as a cache hit ratio maximization problem emphasizing a relevance score and machine learning model accuracy. A model predicts the video to be cached in the next time stamp, and the relevance score identifies the video to be removed from the cache. Afterwards, we gather the logs and generate the content requests using an extracted video request pattern. These logs are pre-processed to create a dataset divided into three-time slots per day. A Long short-term memory (LSTM) model is trained on this dataset to forecast the video at the next time interval. The proposed optimized caching policy is evaluated on our CDN architecture deployed on the Korean Advanced Research Network (KOREN) infrastructure. Our findings demonstrate how adding time-based request patterns impacts the system by increasing the cache hit rate. The speedy advancement in wireless communication technologies provides considerable development to enable smart cities with applications such as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). Blockchain is an emerging technology that provides a secure and distributed data storage mechanism useful for smart city applications. The full nodes in the Blockchain contain a record of all the transactions and data blocks of the Blockchain users. As the number of full nodes is less and the number of Blockchain users is high, there is a huge load on the full nodes for accessing and verifying the data by the Blockchain users. Efficient hardware caching techniques are needed to decrease the data access delay. In this paper, we implement different caching techniques on the Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Network Interface Card (NIC) and analyze their performance for the key-value store caching in the Blockchain. We design the 2-way and 4-way caching techniques on Block Random-Access Memory (BRAM) and compare them with the conventional direct-mapped caching technique in terms of cache hits and cache misses. The improvements in the hit ratio of the 2-way set-associative cache technique with respect to the direct-mapped cache technique for 10 K, 25 K, and 50 K addresses are 0.8%, 0.77%, and 1.67%, respectively. On the other hand, for the same sets of addresses, the hit rate improvement of the 4-way set-associative cache technique with respect to the direct-mapped cache technique is 0.92%, 2.01%, and 2.4%, respectively. The improvements in hit rate for large data sets show that 2-way and 4-way set-associative cache techniques perform better than the direct-mapped cache technique for caching systems. Embedded systems are becoming increasingly complex and heterogeneous, featuring multiple processor cores (which might themselves be heterogeneous) as well as specialized hardware accelerators, all accessing shared memory. Many accelerators are non-coherent (i.e., do not support hardware cache coherence) because it reduces hardware complexity, cost, and power consumption, while potentially offering superior performance. However, the disadvantage of non-coherence is that the software must explicitly synchronize between accelerators and processors, and this synchronization is notoriously error-prone. We propose an analysis technique to find data races in software for heterogeneous systems that include non-coherent accelerators. Our approach builds on classical results for data race detection, but the challenge turns out to be analyzing cache behavior rather than the behavior of the non-coherent accelerators. Accordingly, our central contribution is a novel, sound (data-race-preserving) abstraction of cache behavior. We prove our abstraction sound, and then to demonstrate the precision of our abstraction, we implement it in a simple dynamic race detector for a system with a processor and a massively parallel accelerator provided by a commercial FPGA-based accelerator vendor. On eleven software examples provided by the vendor, the tool had zero false positives and was able to detect previously unknown data races in two of the 11 examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

User Equipment (UE) is equipped with limited cache resources that can be utilized to offload data traffic through device-to-device (D2D) communications. Data caching at a UE level has the potential to significantly alleviate data traffic burden from the backhaul link. Moreover, in wireless networks, users exhibit mobility that poses serious challenges to successful data transmission via D2D communications due to intermittent connectivity among users. Users' mobility can be exploited to efficiently cache contents by observing connectivity patterns among users. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an efficient data caching mechanism for UE while taking into account users' mobility patterns. In this work, we propose a mobility-aware data caching approach to enhance data offloading via D2D communication. First, we model users' connectivity patterns. Then, contents are cached in UE' cache resources based on users' data preferences. In addition, we also take into account signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) requirements of the users. Hence, our proposed caching mechanism exploits connectivity patterns of users to perform data placement based on users' own demands and neighboring users to enhance data offloading via cache resources. We performed extensive simulations to investigate the performance of our proposed mobility-aware data caching mechanism. The performance of our proposed caching mechanism is compared to most deployed data caching mechanisms, while taking into account the dynamic nature of the wireless channel and the interference experienced by the users. From the obtained results, it is evident that our proposed approach achieves 14%, 16%, and 11% higher data offloading gain than the least frequently used, the Zipf-based probabilistic, and the random caching schemes in case of an increasing number of users, cache capacity, and number of contents, respectively. Moreover, we also analyzed cache hit rates, and our proposed scheme achieves 8% and 5% higher cache hit rate than the least frequently used, the Zipf-based probabilistic, and the random caching schemes in case of an increasing number of contents and cache capacity, respectively. We introduce a framework and provably-efficient schemes for ‘fresh’ caching at the (front-end) local cache of content that is subject to ‘dynamic’ updates at the (back-end) database. We start by formulating the hard-cache-constrained problem for this setting, which quickly becomes intractable due to the limited cache. To bypass this challenge, we first propose a flexible time-based-eviction model to derive the average system cost function that measures the system’s cost due to the service of aging content in addition to the regular cache miss cost. Next, we solve the cache-unconstrained case, which reveals how the refresh dynamics and popularity of content affect optimal caching. Then, we extend our approach to a soft-cache-constrained version, where we can guarantee that the cache use is limited with arbitrarily high probability. The corresponding solution reveals the interesting insight that ‘whether to cache an item or not in the local cache?’ depends primarily on its popularity level and channel reliability, whereas ‘how long the cached item should be held in the cache before eviction?’ depends primarily on its refresh rate. Moreover, we investigate the cost-cache saving trade-offs and prove that substantial cache gains can be obtained while also asymptotically achieving the minimum cost as the database size grows. Stragglers (i.e., nodes with slow performance) are prevalent and incur performance instability in large-scale storage systems, yet it is challenging to detect stragglers in practice. We make a case by showing how erasure-coded caching provides robust straggler tolerance without relying on timely and accurate straggler detection, while incurring limited redundancy overhead in caching. We first analytically motivate that caching only parity blocks can achieve effective straggler tolerance. To this end, we present POCache , a parity-only caching design that provides robust straggler tolerance. To limit the erasure coding overhead, POCache slices blocks into smaller subblocks and parallelizes the coding operations at the subblock level. It further adopts a configurable straggler-aware cache algorithm (CSAC) that takes into account both file access popularity and straggler estimation to decide which parity blocks should be cached. CSAC enables POCache to configure various cache admission and eviction algorithms with straggler awareness and supports cache prefetching. We implement a POCache prototype atop Hadoop 3.1 HDFS, while preserving the performance and functionalities of normal HDFS operations. The notion of age of information (AoI) has become an important performance metric in network and control systems. Information freshness, represented by AoI, naturally arises in the context of caching. We address optimal scheduling of cache updates for a time-slotted system where the contents vary in size. There is limited capacity for the cache for making updates. Each content is associated with a utility function that depends on the AoI and the time duration of absence from the cache. For this combinatorial optimization problem, we present the following contributions. First, we provide theoretical results of problem tractability. Whereas the problem is NP-hard, we prove solution tractability in polynomial time for a special case where all contents have the same size, by a reformulation using network flows. Second, we derive an integer linear formulation for the problem, of which the optimal solution can be obtained for small-scale scenarios. Next, via a mathematical reformulation, we derive a scalable optimization algorithm using repeated column generation. In addition, the algorithm computes a bound of global optimum, that can be used to assess the performance of any scheduling solution. Performance evaluation of large-scale scenarios demonstrates the strengths of the algorithm in comparison to a greedy schedule. Finally, we extend the applicability of our work to cyclic scheduling. We consider two generalizations of the classical weighted paging problem that incorporate the notion of delayed service of page requests. The first is the (weighted) paging with time windows (PageTW) problem, which is like the classical weighted paging problem except that each page request only needs to be served before a given deadline. This problem arises in many practical applications of online caching, such as the "deadline"" I/O scheduler in the Linux kernel and video-on-demand streaming. The second, and more general, problem is the (weighted) paging with delay (PageD) problem, where the delay in serving a page request results in a penalty being added to the objective. This problem generalizes the caching problem to allow delayed service, a line of work that has recently gained traction in online algorithms (e.g., [Y. Emek, S. Kutten, and R. Wattenhofer, Proceedings of the 48th Annual ACM SIGACT Symposium on Theory of Computing, 2016, pp. 333--344; Y. Azar et al., Proceedings of the 49th Annual ACM SIGACT Symposium on Theory of Computing, 2017, pp. 551--563; Y. Azar and N. Touitou, Proceedings of the 60th IEEE Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science, 2019, pp. 60--71]). We give O(log k log n)-competitive algorithms for both the PageTW and PageD problems on n pages with a cache of size k. This significantly improves on the previous best bounds of O(k) for both problems [Y. Azar et al., Proceedings of the 49th Annual ACM SIGACT Symposium on Theory of Computing, 2017, pp. 551--563]. We also consider the offline PageTW and PageD problems, for which we give O(1)-approximation algorithms and prove APX-hardness. These are the first results for the offline problems; even NP-hardness was not known before our work. At the heart of our algorithms is a novel "hitting-set"" LP relaxation of the PageTW problem that overcomes the\Omega (k) integrality gap of the natural LP for the problem. Enabling global Internet access is challenging for cellular-based Internet of Things (IoT) due to the limited range of terrestrial network services. One viable solution is to deploy IoT over satellite systems for coverage extension. However, operating a hybrid satellite–terrestrial network might incur high satellite bandwidth consumption and excessive service latency. Aiming to reduce the content delivery latency from the Internet-connected gateway to the users, this article proposes a two-tier cache-enabled model with full-duplex transmissions where content caches are deployed at the satellite and ground station. A closed-form solution for the successful delivery probability (SDP) of the files is derived considering the requested content distributions and channel statistics. Then, the SDP performance under common caching policies can be evaluated. The results are also used to optimize cache placement under caching capacity constraints. Data caching has emerged as a promising technique to handle growing data traffic and backhaul congestion of wireless networks. However, there is a concern regarding how and where to place contents to optimize data access by the users. Data caching can be exploited close to users by deploying cache entities at Small Base Stations (SBSs). In this approach, SBSs cache contents through the core network during off-peak traffic hours. Then, SBSs provide cached contents to content-demanding users during peak traffic hours with low latency. In this paper, we exploit the potential of data caching at the SBS level to minimize data access delay. We propose an intelligence-based data caching mechanism inspired by an artificial intelligence approach known as Reinforcement Learning (RL). Our proposed RL-based data caching mechanism is adaptive to dynamic learning and tracks network states to capture users' diverse and varying data demands. Our proposed approach optimizes data caching at the SBS level by observing users' data demands and locations to efficiently utilize the limited cache resources of SBS. Extensive simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of proposed caching mechanism based on various factors such as caching capacity, data library size, etc. The obtained results demonstrate that our proposed caching mechanism achieves 4% performance gain in terms of delay vs. contents, 3.5% performance gain in terms of delay vs. users, 2.6% performance gain in terms of delay vs. cache capacity, 18% performance gain in terms of percentage traffic offloading vs. popularity skewness (γ), and 6% performance gain in terms of backhaul saving vs. cache capacity. This paper investigates a wireless powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication network with backscatter and caching technologies. Specifically, we assume a self-energized UAV with a cache memory is deployed as a flying backscatter device (BD), term the UAV-enabled BD (UB), to relay the source’s signals to the destination. Whereas the source S can act as a wireless charging station or a base station to supply power or transmit information to the UB using the dynamic time splitting (DTS) method. The UAV utilizes its harvested energy for backscattering (i.e., passive communication) and transmit information (i.e., active communication) to the destination. In this context, we aim to maximize the total throughput by jointly optimizing the DTS ratio and the UB’s trajectory with caching capability at the UB. The formulation is troublesome to solve since it is a non-convex problem. To find solutions, we decompose the original problem into two sub-problems, whereas we first optimize the DTS ratio for a given UB’s trajectory and the UB’s trajectory optimization for a given DTS ratio. By using the KKT conditions, a closed-form expression for the optimal value of the DTS ratio is obtained, greatly reducing the computation time. Moreover, the solution of the second sub-problem can be acquired by adopting the successive convex approximation (SCA) technique. Consequently, an efficient alternating algorithm is proposed by leveraging the block coordinate descent (BCD) method. To show the advantages of the proposed BCD-based algorithm, we also provide the solution of the original problem applying the inner approximation (IA) method. Hybrid heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNets) with sub-6G and millimeter-wave (mmWave) base stations (BSs) achieves good performance-and-cost tradeoffs. Via noticing the negligible retrieving latency and the potential joint transmission (JT) gain of sub-6G BSs, we propose a novel cache-enabled user association scheme for hybrid HCNets with limited local storage, in which partial sub-6G local storage caches contents with relatively low popularity for higher overall content diversity. To sufficiently exploit the large bandwidth of mmWave BSs, they are endowed with higher association priority. Then, the success probability and meta distribution of achievable rate are studied for the proposed scheme, respectively. We further provide the optimization of caching parameters and the condition for superior performance over the MPC-based scheme. Analytical and numerical results show that the network performance can be improved for larger sub-6G BS cooperation size and the array size at mmWave BSs, while the mmWave BS density has two adverse effect for low-to-medium and high rate threshold. For the proposed scheme, the content diversity in combination with JT gain benefits the success probability. Consistent access to web application contents is of paramount importance to its end users. Irrespective of a user's location and the internet condition, there is the desire to interact with web applications, particularly through the use of mobile devices. Attempts have been made by previous researchers to introduce the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) caching otherwise known as the browser cache which is automatically enabled by the browser and the Application Cache (AppCache) as an attempt to foster offline accessibility. While these approaches have helped, there still exists the problem of poor memory management and content validity. A systematic Literature Review (SLR) was done on existing techniques, after which an overview of Service Workers (SW) and the identification of various SW caching strategies were proposed. Any of the proposed SW strategies can be adopted by web application developers based on the network condition and the contents of the application as this will help in reducing the loading time of the application, promote efficient mobile memory management, and increase the number of active users. In this paper, a file popularity and size-aware (PSA) caching scheme is proposed for a hybrid heterogeneous network (HetNet) comprising a file server, macro base stations (BSs) operating in the microwave frequency bands, and pico BSs operating in the millimeter wave frequency wave bands. Different than the state-of-the-art size-weighted popularity (SWP) and popularity-based caching schemes that assume equal file size, the file PSA caching scheme utilizes knowledge of the file popularity and size distributions to maximize the network average cache hit probability and the network average success probability subject to the available cache capacity. Moreover, the maximization of the network average success probability is shown to be non-convex and dynamic programming and branch and bound algorithms are employed to circumvent its convexity. New expressions for the optimal file caching probabilities that maximize the network average success probability in noise-limited and interference-limited HetNet scenarios are provided which are evaluated using numerical techniques. The results demonstrate that the proposed file PSA caching scheme provides up to 7% gain in the network average success probability compared to the SWP-based scheme. This paper comprehensively studies a content-centric mobile network based on a preference learning framework, where each mobile user is equipped with a finite-size cache. We consider a practical scenario where each user requests a content file according to its own preferences, which is motivated by the existence of heterogeneity in file preferences among different users. Under our model, we consider a single-hop-based device-to-device (D2D) content delivery protocol and characterize the average hit ratio for the following two file preference cases: the personalized file preferences and the common file preferences. By assuming that the model parameters such as user activity levels, user file preferences, and file popularity are unknown and thus need to be inferred, we present a collaborative filtering (CF)-based approach to learn these parameters. Then, we reformulate the hit ratio maximization problems into a submodular function maximization and propose two computationally efficient algorithms including a greedy approach to efficiently solve the cache allocation problems. We analyze the computational complexity of each algorithm. Moreover, we analyze the corresponding level of the approximation that our greedy algorithm can achieve compared to the optimal solution. Using a real-world dataset, we demonstrate that the proposed framework employing the personalized file preferences brings substantial gains over its counterpart for various system parameters. The reach on the applications of internet is growing faster than any other technology. Mobile phones are becoming powerful and accessible to everyone. With the wider reach of Internet and smart phones, information explosion is happening in the field of information technology. It is very important to make required information available instantly for smart phone users. Hence, in this work, few enhancements are made by introducing cache sharing and pre-fetching together with noise reduction to improve overall performance of the mobile phone for optimal cache memory utilisation, network traffic reduction, efficient bandwidth utilization and latency reduction. Caching combined with prefetching is used to get frequent and recently used contents in cache of mobile phone without much delay. Whenever a new content is searched it is invariably fetched from the server. If users keep searching for new information more than reusing the content, then cache utilisation will be less and network traffic will be more resulting in more server hits and latency. In order to reduce server hits, sharing of cache contents amongst mobile users is effective. In this paper, we propose a two-tiered segment-based Device-to-Device (S-D2D) caching approach to decrease the startup and playback delay experienced by Video-on-Demand (VoD) users in a cellular network. In the S-D2D caching approach cache space of each mobile device is divided into two cache-blocks. The first cache-block reserve for caching and delivering the beginning portion of the most popular video les and the second cacheblock caches the latter portion of the requested video les 'fully or partially' depending on the users' video watching behaviour and popularity of videos. In this approach before caching, video is divided and grouped in a sequence of xed-sized fragments called segments. To control the admission to both cache blocks and improve the system throughput, we further propose and evaluate three cache admission control algorithms. We also propose a video segment access protocol to elaborate on how to cache and share the video segments in a segmentation based D2D caching architecture. We formulate an optimisation problem and find the optimal cache probability and beginning-segment size that maximise the cache-throughput probability of beginning-segments. To solve the non-convex cache-throughout maximisation problem, we derive an iterative algorithm, where the optimal solution is derived in each step. We consider distributed and dynamic caching of coded content at small base stations (SBSs) in an area served by a macro base station (MBS). Specifically, content is encoded using a maximum distance separable code and cached according to a time-to-live (TTL) cache eviction policy, which allows coded packets to be removed from the caches at periodic times. Mobile users requesting a particular content download coded packets from SBSs within communication range. If additional packets are required to decode the file, these are downloaded from the MBS. We formulate an optimization problem that is efficiently solved numerically, providing TTL caching policies minimizing the overall network load. We demonstrate that distributed coded caching using TTL caching policies can offer significant reductions in terms of network load when request arrivals are bursty. We show how the distributed coded caching problem utilizing TTL caching policies can be analyzed as a specific single cache, convex optimization problem. Our problem encompasses static caching and the single cache as special cases. We prove that, interestingly, static caching is optimal under a Poisson request process, and that for a single cache the optimization problem has a surprisingly simple solution. The Mars 2020 mission seeks to conduct a new scientific exploration on the surface of Mars. The Perseverance Rover will be sent to the surface of the Jezero Crater region to study its habitability, search for biosignatures of past life, acquire and cache samples for potential return, and prepare for possible human missions. To enable these objectives, an innovative Sampling and Caching Subsystem (SCS) has been developed and tested to allow the Perseverance Rover to acquire and cache rock core and regolith samples, prepare abraded rock surfaces, and support proximity science instruments. The SCS consists of the Robotic Arm (RA), the Turret and Corer, and the Adaptive Caching Assembly (ACA). These elements reside and interact both inside and outside of the Perseverance Rover to enable surface interactions, sample transfer, and caching. The main body of the Turret consists of the Coring Drill (Corer) with a Launch Abrading Bit initially installed prior to launch. Mounted to the Turret main structure are two proximity science instruments, SHERLOC and PIXL, as well as the Gas Dust Removal Tool (gDRT) and the Facility Contact Sensor (FCS). These work together with the RA to provide the sample acquisition, abraded surface preparation, and proximity science functions. The ACA is a network of assemblies largely inside the front belly of the Rover, which combine to perform the sample handling and caching functions of the mission. The ACA primarily consists of the Bit Carousel, the Sample Handling Assembly (SHA), End Effector (EE), Sample Tubes and their Sample Tube Storage Assembly (STSA), Seals and their Dispenser, Volume, and Tube Assembly (DVT), the Sealing Station, the Vision Station, the Cover Parking Lot, and additional supporting hardware. These components attach to the Caching Component Mounting Deck (CCMD) that is integrated with the Rover interior. This work describes these major elements of the SCS, with an emphasis on the functionality required to perform the set of tasks and interactions required by the subsystem. Key considerations of contamination control and biological cleanliness throughout the development of these hardware elements are also discussed. Additionally, aspects of testing and validating the functionality of the SCS are described. Early prototypes and tests matured the designs over several years and eventually led to the flight hardware and integrated testing in both Earth ambient and Mars-like environments. Multiple unique testbed venues were developed and used to enable testing from low-level mechanism operation through end-to-end sampling and caching interactions with the full subsystem and flight software. Various accomplishments from these testing efforts are highlighted. These past and ongoing tests support the successful preparations of the SCS on its pathway to operations on Mars. Connected vehicles will enable the smart and autonomous transportation systems in the future. Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) communication will provide wireless connectivity to enable large number of connected vehicle applications. Vehicles will receive traffic and infotainment contents from the city traffic command center using C-V2X communications. In this context, infrastructure Road Side Units (RSUs) will cache urgent and popular data in their memory storage, hence providing vehicles to retrieve information from a closer vicinity at a RSU. In this paper, we present a content caching policy for the connected vehicles operator to improve the efficiency of the content retrieval in terms of download rate and delay. We propose the utility functions for the RSUs and vehicles to cache a particular content at a given RSU. Moreover, Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithm is used to efficiently allocate RSU cache to the contents. We also provide rules to update the cache slots. The proposed caching scheme is compared with random caching policy and market matching based caching policies. Results show that the proposed content caching policy improves the efficiency of the content retrieval with 60 % more data transmission with reduced downloading time and better link utilization as compared to other two scheme. Caching contents at the edge of mobile networks is an efficient mechanism that can alleviate the backhaul links load and reduce the transmission delay. For this purpose, choosing an adequate caching strategy becomes an important issue. Recently, the tremendous growth of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) empowers the edge network nodes with more computation capabilities and storage capabilities, allowing the execution of resource-intensive tasks within the mobile network edges such as running artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. Exploiting users context information intelligently makes it possible to design an intelligent context-aware mobile edge caching. To maximize the caching performance, the suitable methodology is to consider both context awareness and intelligence so that the caching strategy is aware of the environment while caching the appropriate content by making the right decision. Inspired by the success of reinforcement learning (RL) that uses agents to deal with decision making problems, we present a modified reinforcement learning (mRL) to cache contents in the network edges. Our proposed solution aims to maximize the cache hit rate and requires a multi awareness of the influencing factors on cache performance. Location-based services are an important category of context-aware computing, which play an important role in providing the continuous, local and spatially confined information systems very efficiently and accurately to their clients. The key component in location-based services is the current location of a mobile user. Thus, to protect mobile users' location and their other information to an untrusted party with consideration of minimal waiting time, Optimal Mobility Aware Cache data Pre-fetching and Replacement policy (OMCPR) is being proposed here. In this continuous location-based services model, the system introduces a mediator namely Anonymizer by employing the prefetching facility for spatial K-anonymity that resides in between the user and Query Analyser to form a cloaking region using mobile user inputs (data freshness, the contribution rate of cell's cache and location). It provides high-quality lossless location-based services by the utilization of the frequent pattern mining of mobile users' trajectories to forecast their next position as per mobility and multiple constraints. Nowadays the information systems are substantially data-intensive and the data is going to be more critical than before. For these systems, which are intolerant in terms of time latency, the way of accessing data becomes more critical. In these situations, an additional data layer named cache memory is used. There are various both open-source and commercial Java cache memory implementations based on the specifications defined by Java Community Process. In this study, the most widely used Java cache memory implementations are evaluated in order to compare their performances in terms of elapsed time and memory consumption. Host-side flash caching emerges as an effective solution for improving the performance of virtual machines (VMs) in cloud computing environment. However, for VMs with the commonly used Copy-on-Write (COW) virtual disks, flash caching in fact has negative impacts since it brings lots of unnecessary cache writes, hurting both the VM performance and the flash endurance. This paper presents COWCache, a COW-aware caching solution that addresses this problem by co-designing flash caching with COW-based virtual disks. First, COWCache designs a new architecture that bridges the semantic gap between flash caching and virtual disk management for realizing the VMs' real data locality. Second, it separately manages COW metadata with fine-grained caching and journaling to improve the metadata caching efficiency. Third, it provides a novel decoupled Copy-on-Write mechanism, which decouples the amplified data requests from the critical I/O path and only admits the data with real VM locality into flash cache. COWCache also introduces a new data structure, the virtual cache map, to mitigate the memory footprint overhead for indexing the cached data in flash. Evaluations show that COWCache improves the application performance by up to 122.7% and reduces the flash cache writes by up to 78.5% compared to traditional flash caching solutions. We study a multi-access variant of the popular coded caching framework, which consists of a central server with a catalog of $N$ files, $K$ caches with limited memory $M$ , and $K$ users such that each user has access to $L$ consecutive caches with a cyclic wrap-around and requests one file from the central server’s catalog. The server assists in file delivery by transmitting a message of size $R$ over a shared error-free link and the goal is to characterize the optimal rate-memory trade-off. This setup was studied previously by Hachem et al., where an achievable rate and an information-theoretic lower bound were derived. However, the multiplicative gap between them was shown to scale linearly with the access degree $L$ and thus order-optimality could not be established. A series of recent works have used a natural mapping of the coded caching problem to the well-known index coding problem to derive tighter characterizations of the optimal rate-memory trade-off under the additional assumption that the caches store uncoded content. We follow a similar strategy for the multi-access framework and provide new bounds for the optimal rate-memory trade-off $R^{*}(M)$ over all uncoded placement policies. In particular, we derive a new achievable rate for any $L \ge 1$ and a new lower bound, which works for any uncoded placement policy and $L \ge K/2$. We then establish that the (multiplicative) gap between the new achievable rate and the lower bound is at most 2 independent of all parameters, thus establishing an order-optimal characterization of $R^{*}(M)$ for any $L\ge K/2$. This is a significant improvement over the previously known gap result, albeit under the restriction of uncoded placement policies. To reduce the average file delivery time under limited backhaul bandwidth and cache storage, we propose a fractional dynamic caching scheme, that coordinates the utilization of the backhaul and the cache storage. In the proposed scheme, only part of each file is pre-fetched and stored in the static storage segment of small base stations (SBSs), while remaining part of the file will be fetched into the dynamic storage segment when requested by users. We aim to minimize the average file delivery time by investigating the optimal prefetching policy, i.e., the size of the pre-fetched part of each file and the size of the dynamic storage. We formulate the file delivery time minimization problem as a convex optimization formulation. We compute the closed-form of the optimal pre-fetching policy when the wireless rate is constant. Then, a heuristic pre-fetching policy is derived, using the conditional average wireless rate. To overcome the issue that file popularity may be unknown or time-varying, we further provide an approximation of the heuristic pre-fetching policy which is irrelevant to the file popularity. We also discuss on the potential application of the proposed caching scheme in scenarios with heterogeneous file sizes. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme can substantially improve the backhaul utilization efficiency, and reduce the average file delivery time. In this paper, the scheduling of downlink file transmission in one cell with the assistance of cache nodes with finite cache space is studied. Specifically, requesting users arrive randomly and the base station (BS) reactively multicasts files to the requesting users and selected cache nodes. The latter can offload the traffic in their coverage areas from the BS. We consider the joint optimization of the abovementioned file placement and delivery within a finite lifetime subject to the cache space constraint. Within the lifetime, the allocation of multicast power and symbol number for each file transmission at the BS is formulated as a dynamic programming problem with a random stage number. Note that there are no existing solutions to this problem. We develop an asymptotically optimal solution framework by transforming the original problem to an equivalent finite-horizon Markov decision process (MDP) with a fixed stage number. A novel approximation approach is then proposed to address the curse of dimensionality, where the analytical expressions of approximate value functions are provided. We also derive analytical bounds on the exact value function and approximation error. The approximate value functions depend on some system statistics, e.g., requesting users’ distribution. This paper studies the fundamental limits of content delivery in a cache-aided broadcast network for correlated content generated by a discrete memoryless source with arbitrary joint distribution. Each receiver is equipped with a cache of equal capacity, and the requested files are delivered over a shared error-free broadcast link. A class of achievable correlation-aware schemes based on a two-step source coding approach is proposed. Library files are first compressed, and then cached and delivered using a combination of multiple-request caching schemes that are agnostic to the content correlations. The first step uses Gray-Wyner source coding to represent the library via private descriptions and descriptions that are common to more than one file. The second step then becomes a multiple-request caching problem, where the demand structure is dictated by the configuration of the compressed library, and it is interesting in its own right. The performance of the proposed two-step scheme is evaluated by comparing its achievable rate with a lower bound on the optimal peak and average rate-memory trade-offs in a two-file multiple-receiver network, and in a three-file two-receiver network. Specifically, in a network with two files and two receivers, the achievable rate matches the lower bound for a significant memory regime and it is within half of the conditional entropy of files for all other memory values. In the three-file two-receiver network, the two-step strategy achieves the lower bound for large cache capacities, and it is within half of the joint entropy of two of the sources conditioned on the third one for all other cache sizes. While the cost of the access network could be considerably reduced by the use of caching, this is not currently happening because content providers (CPs), who alone have the detailed demand data required for optimal content placement, have no natural incentive to use them to minimize access network operator (ANO) expenditure. We argue that ANOs should therefore provide such an incentive in the form of direct subsidies paid to the CPs in proportion to the realized savings. We apply coalition game theory to design the required subsidy framework and propose a distributed algorithm, based on Lagrangian decomposition, allowing ANOs and CPs to collectively realize the optimal memory for bandwidth tradeoff. The considered access network is a cache hierarchy with per-CP central office caches, accessed by all ANOs, at the apex, and per-ANO dedicated bandwidth and storage resources at the lower levels, including wireless base stations, that must be shared by multiple CPs. Sharding is a method for allocating data items to nodes of a distributed caching or storage system based on the result of a hash function computed on the item’s identifier. It is ubiquitously used in key-value stores, CDNs and many other applications. Despite considerable work that has focused on the design and implementation of such systems, there is limited understanding of their performance in realistic operational conditions from a theoretical standpoint. In this paper we fill this gap by providing a thorough modeling of sharded caching systems, focusing particularly on load balancing and caching performance aspects. We consider the problem of private information retrieval (PIR) of a single message out of $K$ messages from $N$ replicated and non-colluding databases where a cache-enabled user (retriever) of cache-size $M$ possesses side information in the form of full messages that are partially known to the databases. In this model, the user and the databases engage in a two-phase scheme, namely, the prefetching phase where the user acquires side information and the retrieval phase where the user downloads desired information. In the prefetching phase, the user receives $m_{n}$ full messages from the $n$ th database, under the cache memory size constraint $\sum _{n=1}^{N} m_{n} \leq M$. In the retrieval phase, the user wishes to retrieve a message (which is not present in its memory) such that no individual database learns anything about the identity of the desired message. In addition, the identities of the side information messages that the user did not prefetch from a database must remain private against that database. Since the side information provided by each database in the prefetching phase is known by the providing database and the side information must be kept private against the remaining databases, we coin this model as partially known private side information. We characterize the capacity of the PIR with partially known private side information to be $C=\left ({1+\frac {1}{N}+\cdots +\frac {1}{N^{K-M-1}}}\right)^{-1}=\frac {1-\frac {1}{N}}{1-\left({\frac {1}{N}}\right)^{K-M}}$. Interestingly, this result is the same if none of the databases knows any of the prefetched side information, i.e., when the side information is obtained externally, a problem posed by Kadhe et al. and settled by Chen-Wang-Jafar recently. Degraded K-user broadcast channels (BCs) are studied when the receivers are facilitated with cache memories. Lower and upper bounds are derived on the capacity-memory tradeoff, i.e., on the largest rate of reliable communication over the BC as a function of the receivers’ cache sizes, and the bounds are shown to match for interesting special cases. The lower bounds are achieved by two new coding schemes that benefit from nonuniform cache assignments. Lower and upper bounds are also established on the global capacity-memory tradeoff, i.e., on the largest capacity-memory tradeoff that can be attained by optimizing the receivers’ cache sizes subject to a total cache memory budget. The bounds coincide when the total cache memory budget is sufficiently small or sufficiently large, where the thresholds depend on the BC statistics. For small cache memories, it is optimal to assign all the cache memory to the weakest receiver. In this regime, the global capacity-memory tradeoff grows by the total cache memory budget divided by the number of files in the system. In other words, a perfect global caching gain is achievable in this regime and the performance corresponds to a system where all the cache contents in the network are available to all receivers. For large cache memories, it is optimal to assign a positive cache memory to every receiver, such that the weaker receivers are assigned larger cache memories compared to the stronger receivers. In this regime, the growth rate of the global capacity-memory tradeoff is further divided by the number of users, which corresponds to a local caching gain. It is observed numerically that a uniform assignment of the total cache memory is suboptimal in all regimes, unless the BC is completely symmetric. Data stores and cloud services are typically accessed using a client-server paradigm wherein the client runs as part of an application process which is trying to access the data store or cloud service. This paper presents the design and implementation of enhanced clients for improving both the functionality and performance of applications accessing data stores or cloud services. Our enhanced clients can improve performance via multiple types of caches, encrypt data for providing confidentiality before sending information to a server, and compress data for reducing the size of data transfers. Our clients can perform data analysis to allow applications to more effectively use cloud services. They also provide both synchronous and asynchronous interfaces. An asynchronous interface allows an application program to access a data store or cloud service and continue execution before receiving a response which can significantly improve performance. We present a Universal Data Store Manager (UDSM) which allows an application to access multiple different data stores and provides a common interface to each data store. The UDSM also can monitor the performance of different data stores. A workload generator allows users to easily determine and compare the performance of different data stores. We also present NLU-SA, an application for performing natural language understanding and sentiment analysis on text documents. NLU-SA is implemented on top of our enhanced clients and integrates text analysis with Web searching. We present results from NLU-SA on sentiment on the Web towards major companies and countries. Named Data Networking (NDN) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) are two new and highly innovative paradigms. In fact, they are used to solve the problems of current Internet architecture. As the NDN architecture is currently under development, it needs a robust routing protocol, an effective cache replacement strategy and a fast forwarding process to be improved. In this paper, we propose novel forwarding, caching and routing approaches for NDN based on SDN (FCR-NS). In fact, we introduce a new NDN architecture, based on the SDN paradigm and on a routing protocol totally managed by SDN controller. In our solution, we use the new cache replacement policy, which calculates the popularity of local data in the switches, and the bloom filter structure, in order to make the forwarding strategy very fast. Our architecture is completely free from the current Internet architecture and uses only NDN messages. Thereby, it offers a complete separation between the control and data planes as it is based on the SDN network. The experiments, that were carried out with the ndnSIM simulator, have clearly shown the efficiency of our solution, which allows accelerating the actual deployment of the NDN architecture in a real Internet network. The increasing demand for rich multimedia services and the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) pose challenging requirements for the next-generation vehicular networks. Such challenges are largely related to high spectral efficiency and low latency requirements in the context of massive content delivery and increased connectivity. In this respect, caching and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) paradigms have been recently proposed as potential solutions to effectively address some of these key challenges. In this paper, we introduce cache-aided NOMA as an enabling technology for vehicular networks. In this context, we first consider the full file caching case, where each vehicle caches and requests entire files using the NOMA principle. Without loss of generality, we consider a two-user vehicular network communication scenario under double Nakagami $\text{-}m$ fading conditions and propose an optimum power allocation policy. To this end, an optimization problem that maximizes the overall probability of successful decoding of files at each vehicle is formulated and solved. Furthermore, we consider the case of split file caching, where each file is divided into two parts. A joint power allocation optimization problem is formulated, where power allocation across vehicles and cached split files is investigated. The offered analytic results are corroborated by extensive results from computer simulations and interesting insights are developed. Caching is an effective way to address the challenges due to explosive data traffic growth and massive device connectivity in fifth-generation (5G) networks. Currently, few works on caching pay attention to the impact of the time duration for which content is stored, called retention time, on caching optimization. The research on retention time is motivated by two practical issues, i.e., flash memory damage and storage rental cost in cloud networks, together giving rise to the storage cost. How to optimize caching contents taking the storage cost into consideration is a challenging problem, especially for the scenarios with cache-enabled mobile nodes. In this paper, a retention-aware caching problem (RACP) in vehicular networks is formulated, considering the impact of the storage cost. The problem’s complexity analysis is provided. For symmetric cases, an optimal dynamic programming (DP) algorithm with polynomial time complexity is derived. For general cases, a low complexity and effective retention aware multi-helper caching algorithm (RAMA) is proposed. Numerical results are used to verify the effectiveness of the algorithms. This paper derives upper and lower bounds on the secrecy capacity-memory tradeoff of a wiretap erasure broadcast channel (BC) with ${\mathsf{K}}_{w} $ weak receivers and ${\mathsf {K}}_{s} $ strong receivers, where weak receivers and strong receivers have the same erasure probabilities and cache sizes, respectively. The lower bounds are achieved by the schemes that meticulously combine joint cache-channel coding with wiretap coding and key-aided one-time pads. The presented upper bound holds more generally for arbitrary degraded BCs and arbitrary cache sizes. When only weak receivers have cache memories, upper and lower bounds coincide for small and large cache memories, thus providing the exact secrecy capacity-memory tradeoff for this setup. The derived bounds further allow us to conclude that the secrecy capacity is positive even when the eavesdropper is stronger than all the legitimate receivers with cache memories. Moreover, they show that the secrecy capacity-memory tradeoff can be significantly smaller than its non-secure counterpart, but it grows much faster when cache memories are small. This paper also presents a lower bound on the global secrecy capacity-memory tradeoff where one is allowed to optimize the cache assignment subject to a total cache budget. It is close to the best known lower bound without secrecy constraint. For small total cache budget, the global secrecy capacity-memory tradeoff is achieved by assigning all the available cache memory uniformly over all the receivers if the eavesdropper is stronger than all the legitimate receivers, and it is achieved by assigning the cache memory uniformly only over the weak receivers if the eavesdropper is weaker than the strong receivers. Coded caching can significantly reduce the communication bandwidth requirement for satisfying users’ demands by utilizing the multicasting gain among multiple users. Most existing works assume that the users follow the prescriptions for content placement made by the system. However, users may prefer to decide what files to cache. To address this issue, we consider a network consisting of a file server connected through a shared link to $\boldsymbol {K}$ users, each equipped with a cache which has been already filled arbitrarily. Given an arbitrary content placement, the goal is to find a delivery strategy for the server that minimizes the load of the shared link. In this paper, we focus on a specific class of coded multicasting delivery schemes known as the “clique cover delivery scheme.” We first formulate the optimal clique cover delivery problem as a combinatorial optimization problem. Using a connection with the weighted set cover problem, we propose an approximation algorithm and show that it provides an approximation ratio of $(\textbf {1} + \log \boldsymbol {K})$ , while the approximation ratio for the existing coded delivery schemes is linear in $\boldsymbol {K}$. Numerical simulations show that our proposed algorithm provides a considerable bandwidth reduction over the existing coded delivery schemes for almost all content placement schemes. With the development of communication technology and the explosive growth of video traffic brought by the rapid growth of mobile devices (such as smartphones and wearable devices), great business opportunities have been brought to video service providers. In this paper, we make full use of the cache and computing capacity of edge cloud. Considering the multi bitrate of video, we design the video caching and processing model that offers maximized profit to video service provider. Specifically, we model this problem as the 0–1 optimization problem and design the learning-based online upper confidence bound algorithm based on multi-arm bandit theory. This algorithm can design the corresponding cache and process strategy in real time according to the users’ request to video. Furthermore, this strategy can maximize the profit of video provider and satisfy the service quality for users. Content-centric networking (CCN) is gradually becoming the alternative approach to the traditional Internet architecture through enlightening information (content) distribution on the Internet with content names. The growing rate of Internet traffic has adapted a content-centric architecture to better serve the user requirement of accessing a content. For enhancing content delivery, ubiquitous in-network caching is utilized to store a content in each and every router by the side of the content delivery path. From the study, it is evaluated that a better performance can be achieved when caching is done by a subset of CRs instead of all CRs in a content delivery path. Motivated by this, we proposed an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-based caching (ANFIS-BC) scheme for CCN to improve the cache performance. The proposed ANFIS-BC scheme utilizes the feature of centrality-measures for selection of a router for caching in a network. Caching and multicast have surged as effective tools to alleviate the heavy load from the backhaul links while enabling content-centric delivery in communication networks. The main focus of work in this area has been on the cache placements to manage the network delay and backhaul transmission cost. An important issue of optimizing the cost efficiency in content delivery has not been addressed. This paper tackles this issue by proposing collaborative multicast beamforming in cache-enabled ultra-dense networks. The objective is to maximize the cost efficiency, which is defined as the ratio of the content throughput to the sum of power consumption and backhaul cost, in providing quality-of-service for content delivery. Zero-forcing beamforming and generalized zero-forcing beamforming are employed to force the multi-content interference to zero or mitigate it while amplifying the desired signals for users. These problems of collaborative multicast beamforming design are computationally difficult. Path-following algorithms, which invoke a simple convex quadratic program at each iteration, are developed for their solution. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can be utilized as a relay to connect nodes with long distance, which can achieve significant throughput gain owing to its mobility and line-of-sight (LoS) channel with ground nodes. However, such LoS channels make UAV transmission easy to eavesdrop. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to guarantee the security of UAV-relayed wireless networks with caching via jointly optimizing the UAV trajectory and time scheduling. For every two users that have cached the required file for the other, the UAV broadcasts the files together to these two users, and the eavesdropping can be disrupted. For the users without caching, we maximize their minimum average secrecy rate by jointly optimizing the trajectory and scheduling, with the secrecy rate of the caching users satisfied. The corresponding optimization problem is difficult to solve due to its non-convexity, and we propose an iterative algorithm via successive convex optimization to solve it approximately. Furthermore, we also consider a benchmark scheme in which we maximize the minimum average secrecy rate among all users by jointly optimizing the UAV trajectory and time scheduling when no user has the caching ability. We consider the problem of interference management in wireless cellular networks with caches at both base stations and receivers, and we characterize the degrees of freedom (DoFs) per cell to within an additive gap of (1/3) and a multiplicative gap of 2 for all system parameters, under one-shot linear schemes. Our result indicates that the one-shot linear DoF per cell scales linearly with the total amount of cache available in the cell, i.e., the sum of the caches at the central base station and all the receivers within the cell, resembling a similar phenomenon previously observed for the case of fully connected wireless networks. To establish the result, we propose a decentralized and randomized cache placement and a delivery scheme, which, on one hand, utilizes the overlap of contents at the base station caches to zero-force part of their outgoing interference and, on the other hand, uses the receiver cache contents to create coded multicasting opportunities, so that the receivers can eliminate the remaining interference due to undesired packets. We also provide a converse argument, which shows that our achievable one-shot linear DoF per cell is within a constant additive gap of (1/3) and a multiplicative gap of 2 of its optimum. We consider the problem of private information retrieval (PIR) from $N$ non-colluding and replicated databases when the user is equipped with a cache that holds an uncoded fraction $r$ from each of the $K$ stored messages in the databases. We assume that the databases are unaware of the cache content. We investigate $D^{*}(r)$ the optimal download cost normalized with the message size as a function of $K$ , $N$ , and $r$. For a fixed $K$ and $N$ , we develop an inner bound (converse bound) for the $D^{*}(r)$ curve. The inner bound is a piece-wise linear function in $r$ that consists of $K$ line segments. For the achievability, we develop explicit schemes that exploit the cached bits as side information to achieve $K-1$ non-degenerate corner points. These corner points differ in the number of cached bits that are used to generate the one-side information equation. We obtain an outer bound (achievability) for any caching ratio by memory sharing between these corner points. Thus, the outer bound is also a piece-wise linear function in $r$ that consists of $K$ line segments. The inner and the outer bounds match in general for the cases of very low-caching ratio and very high-caching ratio. As a corollary, we fully characterize the optimal download cost caching ratio tradeoff for $K=3$. For general $K$ , $N$ , and $r$ , we show that the largest gap between the achievability and the converse bounds is 1/6. This paper examines the impact of multiple requests based user association model on the performance of ultra-dense small cell network. We consider a cache-enabled small cell network where popular files are cached in different small cells according to the spatial popularity of files. Unlike traditional models, where a user sends requests to a single nearby small cell, we propose a multi-request based user association model (MRAM). In this model, a user selects multiple small cells in its vicinity, referred to as neighbors, for sending file requests. This subset of neighbors search the requested file simultaneously, in order to provide it to the user at the small cell level. This results in an improved coverage probability, which increases the cache hit ratio, eventually alleviating the backhaul congestion. We further exploit coverage probability by considering different coverage patterns and derive closed-form expressions based on these coverage scenarios. We concretely demonstrate that the performance of such a multi-request model is improved with user's movement in different regions.
