Abstract: We present a microfluidic technique that shrinks lipidstabilized microbubbles from O(100) to O(1) µm in diameter–the size that is desirable in applications as ultrasound contrast agents. We achieve microbubble shrinkage by utilizing vacuum channels that are adjacent to the microfluidic flow channels to extract air from the microbubbles. We tune a single parameter, the vacuum pressure, to accurately control the final microbubble size. Finally, we demonstrate that the resulting O(1) µm diameter microbubbles have similar stability to microfluidics generated microbubbles that are not exposed to vacuum shrinkage. We anticipate that, with additional scale-up, this simple approach to shrink microbubbles generated microfluidically will be desirable in ultrasound imaging and therapeutics applications.

Abstract: Continuous monitoring of road surface quality is necessary to maintain high functionality of the entire road networks and allow users to perceive road roughness. Although several fundamental methods have been used to evaluate road roughness by employing smart probe cars, the accuracy of these methods is affected by factors, such as vehicle speed, sensor positions, and vehicle suspension systems. Also, the long-term application of these methods to the entire road network is also limited due to the high cost. Further, the widely used roughness indices do not reflect road users' perception about road roughness as these indices are also affected by the accuracy of the roughness evaluation methods. Therefore, we propose a crowdsourcing based road roughness evaluation model which uses power spectral density accompanied with blind source separation technique to eliminate the vehicle effects. We also propose a road surface ranking based on majority voting algorithm for comparing roads based on their surface quality. Finally, the road surface roughness index is derived to widen the range of quality scale and capture roughness at fine granularity. The models are tested by real world experiments on different roads in Taiwan. The results show that the proposed model can accurately measure the roughness of roads, rank these roads and index them accordingly in a way that shows tiny differences in the road surface quality.

4. Central Retinal Artery Occlusion after Filler Injection for Upper Lid Retraction

Abstract: Purpose: We report a case of central retinal artery occlusion after filler injection for upper lid retraction. Diagnosis and treatment were performed to recover visual acuity and good results.Case summary: A 40-year-old woman presented to our clinic with upper lid retraction. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and thyroid orbitopathy. She had been examined regularly at a local clinic since 2016. At the first visit, her visual acuity was 1.0/1.0 and the intraocular pressure was 19 mmHg, with no unusual findings in the anterior segment. Hyaluronic acid filler was injected into the medial part of the left upper lid. As soon as the needle was removed, she complained of blurry vision and visual impairment. This was followed by the development of a relative afferent pupillary defect; her visual acuity was hand motion at 30 cm. After 5 minutes, we performed wide fundus imaging and optical coherence tomography, which revealed retinal artery occlusion and a cherry-red spot, along with inner retina hyperreflectivity. Under a diagnosis of central retinal artery occlusion, we performed anterior chamber paracentesis, intravenous mannitol and acetazole injection, and an ocular massage. Approximately 1.5 hours after filler injection, retinal artery reperfusion and loss of the cherry red spot were observed and, after about 3 hours, her vision had recovered to 1.0 from hand motion at 30 cm.Conclusions: Central retinal artery occlusion after filler injection, when diagnosed promptly, can be treated by anterior chamber paracentesis, intravenous mannitol and acetazole injection, and ocular massage.

Abstract: Arterial dissection is one of the mechanisms of balloon angioplasty. Although some degree of dissection is unavoidable, severe dissection that impedes blood flow decreases patency and increases the need for additional procedures. To improve the results of angioplasty, it is necessary to understand the factors related to severe dissection and make efforts to reduce its occurrence. This study aimed to elucidate the predictive and protective factors associated with severe dissection in femoropopliteal balloon angioplasty.This was a retrospective, single-center, nonrandomized study. A total of 409 limbs were studied in 334 patients with symptomatic femoropopliteal lesions treated between 2010 and 2019. Dissections after initial balloon angioplasty were classified according to the Kobayashi dissection classification (grade A: no dissection; B: mild dissection1/3 of the lumen; C: severe dissection, ≥1/3 of the lumen) into the nonsevere dissection group (grades A and B), and severe dissection group (grade C). We compared clinical, procedural and lesion-related characteristics between the 2 groups. Factors with statistical significance in univariate analyses were entered into a multivariate logistic regression model to identify independent predictive factors of severe dissection.Severe dissection occurred in 237 limbs and nonsevere dissection in 172 limbs. In univariate analyses, the predictive factors of severe dissection were TransAtlantic Inter-Society Consensus II C/D grades (P0.001), lesion length ≥15cm (P0.001), chronic total occlusion (P = 0.004), and degree of stenosis ≥70% (P0.001). Protective factors for severe dissection were end-stage renal disease (P = 0.008), severe calcification50% (P0.001), and the use of a scoring balloon (P = 0.001). In multivariate analysis, factors associated with severe dissection were lesion length ≥15cm (OR, 2.259; 95% CI: 1.417-4-3.601), occlusion or degree of stenosis ≥70% (OR, 1.931; 95% CI: 1.255-2.971), severe calcification (OR, 0.520; 95% CI: 0.338-0.800), and the use of a scoring balloon (OR, 0.467; 95% CI: 0.263-0.830).Lesion length ≥15cm and occlusion or stenosis ≥70% were identified as independent predictive factors of severe dissection in femoropopliteal artery balloon angioplasty. Conversely, severe calcification and the use of a scoring balloon appeared to be protective factors against severe dissection.

Abstract: An active isolator achieving both high isolation and low insertion loss at 2.45 GHz is proposed. The isolator is based on an asymmetric coupler and is designed to leverage the gain and reverse isolation of an amplifier and coupling coefficients between the input and output of the coupler. The insertion loss and isolation of the isolator are enhanced by using the coefficients, and the power level with optimal isolation can be determined for a target specification. The asymmetric coupler increases the power handling capability of the proposed isolator that has a low coupling coefficient and achieves highly efficient isolation with a high coupling coefficient. Abstract: Soil nutrients vary greatly and information regarding their spatial-temporal variability is critical for achieving site-specific nutrient management. However, the problem is that the high cost of soil sampling and laboratory analysis limits the number of samples current research budgets can afford. Besides, large sampling intervals sometimes fail to capture the variability of typical soil properties. Consequently, determining a reasonable yet feasible sampling interval to characterize the spatial variation of soil properties is greatly needed to delineate soil nutrient management zones (MZs). For this purpose, this study used four sampling intervals, 25 m × 25 m, 50 m × 50 m, 75 m × 75 m, and 100 m × 100 m by resampling the raw data acquired from seven adjacent fields located in Quzhou County to estimate the optimal design of soil sampling. Five soil properties (pH, electrical conductivity, extractable phosphorus, extractable potassium, and soil organic matter) were selected to delineate MZs using principal component analysis and fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm. The results indicated that indigenous P and K varied significantly, with the coefficients of variation of 34.33% and 24.01 %, respectively. The findings suggested that the optimal soil sampling interval was 50 m to accurately delineate MZs in medium- and small-scale farmlands. Besides, findings also demonstrated that site-specific P and K management could save approximately 21 kg P ha−1 and 30 kg K ha−1 as compared to conventional farming practices while ensuring target yield. The results can help make precision P and K management decisions in medium- and small-scale farming systems.

Abstract: In patients with dropped head syndrome (DHS), cervical malalignment is one of the risk factors for impaired horizontal gaze and restrictions to ambulation. The characteristics of gait in patients with DHS have not been clarified biomechanically from the viewpoint of dynamic alignment and lower limb kinematics. This study aimed to clarify kinematic and kinetic differences during level walking in patients with DHS compared to the healthy elderly. Twelve patients with DHS and healthy elderly individuals performed level walking at a self-selected speed. Spatiotemporal, kinematic, and kinetic data were recorded using a three-dimensional motion analysis system. Statistical analysis was performed to compare these data between the two groups, respectively. Compared with the healthy elderly, stride length and peak hip-joint extension angle in patients with DHS were significantly shorter and smaller. The thorax was also significantly tilted backwards. Peak ankle-joint plantar-flexion moment was significantly smaller despite larger dorsiflexion angle compared with the healthy elderly. The walking of DHS patients demonstrated kinematic and kinetic characteristics of the lower limb joints and alignment of the thorax and pelvis corresponding to their short stride and walking speed.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the change of dynamic alignment after the short and intensive rehabilitation (SHAiR) program in patients with dropped head syndrome (DHS). Eighteen patients with DHS patients who complained of their inability to maintain horizontal gaze and underwent the SHAiR program. Patients performed level walking at a self-selected speed. Spatiotemporal, kinematic, and kinetic data were recorded using a three-dimensional motion analysis system. Statistical analysis was performed to compare these data before and after the SHAiR program. Those who underwent the SHAiR program showed a significant increase in the head angle and stride length compared to pre-treatment measurements (p 0.05). The SHAiR program modifies the malalignment of the head and neck and spatiotemporal parameters in DHS patients during level walking.

Abstract: In this study, we report on the development and evaluation of new excretion detection devices based on an existing product, Product H, which utilizes odor-sensing technology. Caregivers can use the developed device to receive a detection signal and record the true/false status of the detection. This device is based on a preliminary interview with caregivers regarding the desirable characteristics of the planned device. As a result, the size of the device was reduced to approximately 20% of the existing product. An excretion detection rate of 60% was achieved in a clinical experiment, as compared with that of 80% for Product H. This is significant because the parameter values were not yet optimized for the developed device. Further, a simple questionnaire was administered to caregivers, in which the intuitiveness of the operation and the functionality of the design were praised. However, there is a desire for an option to record more excretion characteristics was expressed. Therefore, we developed a revised device to include an input option regarding the amount and hardness of the excrement. The results of the subsequent evaluation questionnaire on the revised device were mostly favorable, but the caregivers had divided opinions on the new input feature. This result suggests a need for further investigation regarding the necessity of this feature.

Abstract: ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate the condylar morphology and position of Koreans using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Analyzing the mean values of this study with reference to left and right sides, gender, and age will help to understand the size of the condyle and glenoid fossa, condylar morphology, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) symmetry for establishing the standard temporomandibular joint structures of Koreans and then design the standard temporomandibular joint prosthesis for Koreans.ResultsThere was no significant result in the condyle size, condyle axis angle, joint space, fossa depth, and mandibular body size between the left and right sides (p> 0.05). On the other hand, the mediolateral width of the condyle and mandibular body size show significantly different with the gender (P< 0.05). Also, significant differences were found in condyle size, joint space, fossa depth, and mandibular body size according to age groups (p< 0.05).ConclusionsCondylar position and morphology vary according to side, age, and gender. The results of this study are expected to help in customizing a treatment for the patients who need TMJ reconstruction by predicting the TMJ morphology according to age and gender and design the standard temporomandibular joint prosthesis for the Koreans.

Abstract: A mandibular continuity defect can be repaired using either a prosthetic device or autogenous bone. A titanium reconstruction plate can be used with a localized or vascularized flap over the defect of the mandible. Unfortunately, the plate may fail due to plate exposure, screw loosening, fracture, or infection, and will need to be removed. Plate exposure though the skin or mucosa is one of the main reasons for failure. In the present work, the authors introduced a lingually positioned reconstruction plate fabricated via three-dimensional printed bending support. This custom reconstruction plate can avoid plate re-exposure as well as reduce surgical errors and operation time.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to find out whether financing in specific sectors increase bank liquidity risk and how this goes on with both Islamic and conventional banks. The paper used pooled regression, fixed effect model and random effect model decided on the basis of dummy joint significant test. The result shows that only financing concentration (SPEC) proved to have significant association with Islamic and overall banking sector for short run. And all other banks specific variables are unable to show a significant result. While the macroeconomic variable GDP and Inflation have a strong relationship in both long run and short run time period. This paper add value to the existing literature on liquidity risk under the new indicators issued by Basel III.

Abstract: BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a progressive metabolic disease. Early detection of prediabetes is important to reduce the risk of T2DM. Some cytokines are known to be associated with T2DM. Therefore, we aimed to identify cytokines as novel biomarkers of glucose dysmetabolism. METHODS The first stage of the study included 43 subjects (13 subjects with newly diagnosed T2DM, 13 with prediabetes, and 16 with normoglycemia) for cytokine microarray analysis. Blood samples of the subjects were assessed for 310 cytokines to identify potential indicators of prediabetes. The second stage included 142 subjects (36 subjects with T2DM, 35 with prediabetes, and 71 with normoglycemia) to validate the potential cytokines associated with prediabetes. RESULTS We identified 41 cytokines that differed by 1.5-fold or more in at least one out of the three comparisons (normoglycemia vs. prediabetes, normoglycemia vs. T2DM, and prediabetes vs. T2DM) among 310 cytokines. Finally, we selected protein Z (PROZ) and validated this finding to determine its association with prediabetes. Abstract: 정보통신기술과 IoT의 발달은 병원에서만 이루어지던 진료와 치료의 영역을 가정을 포함한 영역으로 확장하여 얻어지는 방대한 데이터를 이용하여 질병의 발생을 예측하고 방지하는 4P(Personalized, Participatory, Predictive, Preventive) 정밀 의료를 가능하게 한다. 생활패턴에서 얻을 수 있는 사용자의 활동정보는 내적, 외적인 요인에 의해 발생한 질병에 의해 영향을 받을 수 있으며, 특정한 질병은 특정한 사용자 활동에 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 논문은 의료진단을 지원하고 interactive 서비스와 결합하여 질환의 치료를 포함한 cybernetics system으로 활용될 수 있는 사용자 활동 데이터 기반의 의료 서비스 시스템의 개념모델을 제안한다.

Abstract: Background: Whole-body vibration (WBV) has been used to alleviate proprioceptive damage by musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. However, no study has determined whether wearing shoes while applying WBV can affect proprioception precision of the knee joint. Objects: This study aimed to determine the differences in the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint before and after WBV and to compare the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint between barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Methods: This study recruited 33 healthy participants. A passive-to-active angle reproduction test was used to measure the proprioception precision of the knee joint using an electrogoniometer, and the target angle was set to a knee flexion of 30°. Proprioception precision was calculated using the error angle (angular difference from 30°). Proprioceptive precision was measured in weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing positions before and after applying WBV for 20 minutes at 12 Hz in barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Mixed repeated analysis of variance was used to determine the differences in changes in the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint according to foot conditions. Results: There were significant improvements in the weight-bearing (p = 0.002) and nonweight- bearing (p < 0.001) proprioceptive precision of the knee joint after applying WBV. However, there was no significant difference in the change in proprioceptive precision of the knee joint after applying WBV between the barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Conclusion: WBV stimulation had an immediate effect on improving the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint. However, foot conditions (barefoot or shoe-wearing) during WBV application did not influence the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint.

Abstract: Background: Many patients with COVID-19 have been treated with plasma containing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma therapy in patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Methods: This randomised, controlled, open-label, platform trial (Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19 Therapy [RECOVERY]) is assessing several possible treatments in patients hospitalised with COVID-19 in the UK. The trial is underway at 177 NHS hospitals from across the UK. Eligible and consenting patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either usual care alone (usual care group) or usual care plus high-titre convalescent plasma (convalescent plasma group). The primary outcome was 28-day mortality, analysed on an intention-to-treat basis. The trial is registered with ISRCTN, 50189673, and ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04381936. Findings: Between May 28, 2020, and Jan 15, 2021, 11558 (71%) of 16287 patients enrolled in RECOVERY were eligible to receive convalescent plasma and were assigned to either the convalescent plasma group or the usual care group. There was no significant difference in 28-day mortality between the two groups: 1399 (24%) of 5795 patients in the convalescent plasma group and 1408 (24%) of 5763 patients in the usual care group died within 28 days (rate ratio 1·00, 95% CI 0·93–1·07; p=0·95). The 28-day mortality rate ratio was similar in all prespecified subgroups of patients, including in those patients without detectable SARS-CoV-2 antibodies at randomisation. Allocation to convalescent plasma had no significant effect on the proportion of patients discharged from hospital within 28 days (3832 [66%] patients in the convalescent plasma group vs 3822 [66%] patients in the usual care group; rate ratio 0·99, 95% CI 0·94–1·03; p=0·57). Among those not on invasive mechanical ventilation at randomisation, there was no significant difference in the proportion of patients meeting the composite endpoint of progression to invasive mechanical ventilation or death (1568 [29%] of 5493 patients in the convalescent plasma group vs 1568 [29%] of 5448 patients in the usual care group; rate ratio 0·99, 95% CI 0·93–1·05; p=0·79). Interpretation: In patients hospitalised with COVID-19, high-titre convalescent plasma did not improve survival or other prespecified clinical outcomes. Abstract: The primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) arising from an odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is an exceedingly rare entity with only about 30 documented cases over the past eight decades. Although there have been documented cases in literature, few actually describe early carcinomatous change within benign cyst epithelial lining. We present a case of PIOC in situ arising from an OKC in a 54 year-old female, providing histological evidence of early transition of benign cyst epithelial lining into squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract: Background: Fractional picosecond lasers is effective for the treatment of wrinkles or acne scars. Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of treatment with a fractional 1,064-nm picosecond laser with a diffractive optic element for facial wrinkles and acne scars. Methods: This prospective open-labeled trial comprised 22 subjects with facial wrinkles or acne scars. Subjects received three laser treatments with a fractional 1,064-nm picosecond laser at 3-week intervals. The efficacy and safety were evaluated at every visit and 2 months after the final treatment (14 weeks from the first treatment session). Global photographic assessments were performed by three blinded dermatologists and the subjects. Skin profilometry was performed using three-dimensional digital photographs; viscoelasticity was measured. Results: The overall mean global improvement scores assessed by the dermatologists at weeks 3, 6, and 14, were 1.8±1.46, 2.5±1.88, and 3.5±1.84, respectively, and those assessed by the subjects were 2.7±2.08, 4.1±2.24, and 5.0±2.52, respectively. Skin profilometry showed significant improvements in the skin wrinkles, texture, depressions, and pores. The gross elasticity and skin firmness significantly improved by 10.96% and 9.04%, respectively. The major adverse reactions were erythema, pruritus, and petechiae, which disappeared within 2∼3 days. Conclusion: The fractional 1,064-nm picosecond laser is an effective and safe therapeutic modality for skin rejuvenation. (Ann Dermatol 33(3) 254∼262, 2021)

Abstract: Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of primary tumor resection (PTR) in asymptomatic colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with unresectable metastases using the inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) method to minimize selection bias.Methods: We selected 146 patients diagnosed with stage IV CRC with unresectable metastasis between 2001 and 2018 from our institutional database. In a multivariate logistic regression model using the patients’ baseline covariates associated with PTR, we applied the IPTW method based on a propensity score and performed a weighted Cox proportional regression analysis to estimate survival according to PTR.Results: Upfront PTR was performed in 98 patients, and no significant differences in baseline factors were detected. The upweighted median survival of the PTR group was 18 months and that of the non-PTR group was 15 months (P = 0.15). After applying the IPTW, the PTR was still insignificant in the univariate Cox regression (hazard ratio [HR], 0.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.5–1.21). However, in the multivariate weighted Cox regression with adjustment for other covariates, the PTR showed a significantly decreased risk of cancer-related death (HR, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.40–0.94).Conclusion: In this study, we showed that asymptomatic CRC patients with unresectable metastases could gain a survival benefit from upfront PTR by analysis with the IPTW method. However, randomized controlled trials are mandatory.

Abstract: Self-sexualization is an emerging area of research relevant to clothing researchers as evaluations of sexual appeal often stem from specific items and uses of dress. Our research purpose was to systematically review the available research on self-sexualization. In our review we focused specifically on three topics: what precedes self-sexualizing? What outcomes are associated with self-sexualizing? And how has self-sexualization been operationalized? The time frame for this review was 2007–2020. To locate the 31 journal articles that supplied the data for this research, multiple data bases were searched using the following search terms: self-sexualization, self-sexualizing, and sexual self-presentation. Important precursors to self-sexualization include exposure to media and social media, self-objectification, internalization of sexualization, and desiring attention from others. Empowerment has been studied as an outcome of self-sexualization along with negative inferences concerning both young women and girls that self-sexualize. Operationalization of self-sexualization is varied and likely contributes to inconsistent findings.

Abstract: Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) offer numerous advantages over silicon-based application in terms of atomically thin geometry, excellent opto-electrical properties, layer-number dependence, band gap variability, and lack of dangling bonds. The production of high-quality and large-scale TMD films is required with consideration of practical technology. However, the performance of scalable devices is affected by problems such as contamination and patterning arising from device processing; this is followed by an etching step, which normally damages the TMD film. Herein, we report the direct growth of MoSe2 films on selective pattern areas via a surface-mediated liquid-phase promoter using a solution-based approach. Our growth process utilizes the promoter on the selective pattern area by enhancing wettability, resulting in a highly uniform MoSe2 film. Moreover, our approach can produce other TMD films such as WSe2 films as well as control various pattern shapes, sizes, and large-scale areas, thus improving their applicability in various devices in the future. Our patterned MoSe2 field-effect transistor device exhibits a p-type dominant conduction behavior with a high on/off current ratio of ∼106. Thus, our study provides general guidance for direct selective pattern growth via a solution-based approach and the future design of integrated devices for a large-scale application.

Abstract: The inactivated trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) offers limited protection when two influenza B lineages co-circulate or when there is a vaccine mismatch (i.e., discordance in the predominant circulating B strain and WHO-recommended B strain). Inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV) may reduce the burden of influenza. Here, we report the results of a phase 3 clinical trial that evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of a novel QIV, GC3110A, in Korean children aged 6–35 months, which has been approved and is currently in use in Korea. The study involved two parts. In Part 1, the safety of GC3110A was evaluated in 10 subjects. After none of the subjects reported grade 3 adverse events (AEs), we proceeded to Part 2. Part 2 was a randomized, double-blind, multicenter phase 3 trial wherein we compared the immunogenicity and safety of GC3110A with those of a licensed control TIV. Immunogenicity was evaluated by measuring hemagglutination inhibition titers. The 200 participants enrolled in Part 2 were randomized in a 4:1 ratio to receive GC3110A or control TIV. The study vaccine group met both primary (i.e., the lower limit of 95% confidence interval [CI] of the seroconversion rate exceeds 40% for four strains) and secondary (i.e., the lower limit of 95% CI of the seroprotection rate exceeds 70% for four strains) immunogenicity endpoints. There was no significant between-group difference in the seroconversion rate, seroprotection rate, and geometric mean titer for the shared strains. However, the study vaccine group demonstrated significantly higher immunity for the additional strain B/Yamagata. In the safety analysis, there was no significant between-group difference in the proportion of participants with solicited local AEs, solicited systemic AEs, and unsolicited AEs. In conclusion, the results indicate that GC3110A has comparable immunogenicity and safety to those of TIV. Clinical Trial Registry Number: NCT03285997.

Abstract: Background/objective: This study’s goal is to describe wound outcomes at 2 years following intervention for atherosclerotic femoropopliteal lesions in patients with ischemic tissue loss. Methods: A retrospective review of 135 first-time endovascular procedures for chronic femoropopliteal atherosclerotic lesions related to ischemic tissue loss was performed. The final wound outcomes were categorized according to the initial wound healing, recurrence and the need of major/minor amputation. Results: At 2-years of follow up, 76 limbs (56.3%) showed complete wound healing without recurrence, however, wound development occurred at other sites on the same foot following complete primary healing in 11 limbs (8.1%). Tolerable wounds persisted or wounds recurred at the same site in 30 limbs (22.2%), and 18 limbs (13.3%) needed major amputations. Abstract: Objective : Toward the ultimate goal of cuff-less blood pressure (BP) trend tracking via pulse transit time (PTT) using wearable ballistocardiogram (BCG) signals, we present a unified approach to the gating of wearable BCG and the localization of wearable BCG waves. Methods : We present a unified approach to localize wearable BCG waves suited to various gating and localization reference signals. Our approach gates individual wearable BCG beats and identifies candidate waves in each wearable BCG beat using a fiducial point in a reference signal, and exploits a pre-specified probability distribution of the time interval between the BCG wave and the fiducial point in the reference signal to accurately localize the wave in each wearable BCG beat. We tested the validity of our approach using experimental data collected from 17 healthy volunteers. Results : We showed that our approach could localize the J wave in the wearable wrist BCG accurately with both the electrocardiogram (ECG) and the wearable wrist photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals as reference, and that the wrist BCG-PPG PTT thus derived exhibited high correlation to BP. Conclusion : We demonstrated the proof-of-concept of a unified approach to localize wearable BCG waves suited to various gating and localization reference signals compatible with wearable measurement. Significance : Prior work using the BCG itself or the ECG to gate the BCG beats and localize the waves to compute PTT are not ideally suited to the wearable BCG. Abstract: The principal aim of our study was to examine the effect of human resource accounting (Human resource accounting disclosure Index, Training cost, Number of staff and Increment in staff salaries) on corporate financial performance (return on assets and return on equity) of insurance companies quoted on Nigeria Stock Exchange for the period 2012 to 2017. Secondary data of 12 quoted insurance companies were collected mostly from their website and the Nigeria Stock Exchange Port Harcourt office. A non-experimental causal (Ex post facto) research design was appropriately adopted to address the research objectives of the study. The lease square regression analysis, precisely the random effect model was used (with the aid of E-views 10) to empirically answer eight research questions raised in the study. The results showed that human resource accounting disclosure and training cost significantly affect Return on Asset and Return on Equity positively while Number of staff and increment in staff salaries has a statistically significant negative effect on Return on Asset. Based on these results, recommendations were given as follows among others, that: Insurance firms should do more in terms of building the culture of capacity building training, developing and motivating the personnel to put in their best for the financial growth of their organizations and enhancing their capacity to improve organizational performance and Insurance firms should increase their human resource accounting disclosure in other to increase stakeholders’ confidence in doing business with them thereby improving its performance.

38. Tail flap for eyelid reconstruction: An alternative to the Tenzel flap

Abstract: Purpose:To describe a technique of eyelid reconstruction with the tail flap method and also to evaluate the post-surgical outcome in a group of patients. Methods:This was a prospective case series study on nine patients who had undergone an eyelid reconstruction with the tail flap method. The study had been conducted from July 2014 to July 2019. The follow-up continued for six months to one year. Results:A total of nine patients with ten eyelid defects, 2 (22%) patients had unilateral eyelid coloboma, 1 (11%) had lower lid defect associated with Treacher-Collins syndrome,1 (11%)with bilateral upper eyelid coloboma, only one eyelid undergone lid reconstructive surgery associated with craniofacial anomalies,1 (11%) with Juvenile xanthogranuloma of the left upper eyelid,1(11%) with Basal cell carcinoma in the right upper lid, 3(34%) with Meibomian gland carcinoma 2 in lower eyelid and 1 in upper lid undergone lid reconstructive surgery with triangular flap. Among nine patients, a total of ten eyelid defects were repaired with the triangular flap technique, 5 (50%) in the upper eyelid and 5 (50%) in the lower eyelid. The eyelid defects were completely repaired with tail flap in all patients. All patients were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively. The cosmetic outcomes of surgical intervention were excellent in 5(50%) cases, good in 3(30%) cases, fair enough in 2(20%) cases. Conclusions:Tail flap is an alternative surgical method to the well-established Tenzel flap in eyelid reconstruction. Abstract: Background This study identified whether Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) is associated with pain, hand muscle strength, health-related quality of life, and radiographic severity in hand osteoarthritis (OA). Methods We consecutively recruited 95 patients with hand OA. The FIHOA was used to assess questionnaire-based physical function in hand OA. Health-related quality of life was evaluated using EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D). Radiographic changes of hand joints were measured by Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grade, which was determined based on total radiographic severity score and number of affected joints. Other measures included patient’s visual analogue scale (VAS) score for pain and performance-based function indexes such as grip and pinch strength. Statistical analysis was performed using Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman’s correlation analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results FIHOA score was negatively associated with grip and pinch hand strength and EQ-5D and positively correlated to VAS pain (p 4) (p 4) was related with increased VAS pain and with lower EQ-5D index (p = 0.008 and p = 0.013, respectively). There was no association between FIHOA score and measures of total radiographic severity score and number of affected joints. Conclusion This study observes that FIHOA score is associated with patient-reported VAS pain, hand muscle strength indexes, and EQ-5D but not radiographic severity in hand OA.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to check the applicability of radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter (RPLGD) for in vivo dosimetry in external photon beams radiotherapy. The entrance dose measurements were performed. The influence of beam set-up parameters on the entrance dose was investigated using the RPLGDs. In this study, the RPLGD and 6-MV photon beam produced by a linear accelerator were used. The entrance dose calibration factors of the RPLGDs and beam energy and geometry-dependent correction factors were measured using a water phantom. For a correction factor related to the irradiation set-up, Monte Carlo (MC) simulation was performed. The entrance dose verification was performed on an Alderson Rando phantom during 64 single beam irradiations using different beam set-up. One RPLGD was attached on surface during a single beam irradiation for delivery of clinically planned dose. Additionally, during 50 irradiations, one RPLGD was placed directly inside the Alderson Rando phantom at different points in the beam path to verify the dose delivery. The mean ratio of the measured entrance dose using RPLGD on the surface of the phantom to the expected dose which was calculated by treatment planning system was equal to 1.001 ± 0.030. The mean ratio of the dose measured using RPLGDs inside the Alderson Rando phantom to the expected dose was equal to 1.019 ± 0.019. This study concludes that the RPLGD is suitable for in vivo dosimetry in external photon beam radiotherapy for dose verification within ± 5% at the clinically acceptable level.

Abstract: Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) is a neoplasm that usually occurs in the minor salivary glands located in the mucosa of the soft and hard palates, the buccal mucosa, and the upper lip. It rarely occurs in the nasopharynx, and only six cases have been reported. PLGA can be treated by wide local excision and requires no additional treatment if a negative margin is identified in frozen biopsy. Here we describe a case of PLGA originating in the nasopharyngeal mucosa. We were able to completely resect the tumor using simple endoscopic surgery rather than using an open approach, such as a transpalatal resection. Our patient had no local recurrence or distant metastasis at the 24-month follow-up.

Abstract: We report an unusual presentation of primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumor which was initially misdiagnosed as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The diagnosis was only revealed after a major liver resection by histopathology. With adjuvant lanreotide injection, the patient survived for more than 16 months after the operation without tumor recurrence. Diagnosis of this rare tumor has been a major challenge and we emphasize the importance of a preoperative diagnosis. Surgical resection remains the mainstay for curative treatment, while peptide receptor radionuclide therapy is an emerging treatment option which has provided promising results.

Abstract: A hybrid manufacturing method consisting of micro-electrical discharge machining and focused ion beam milling to fabricate single-crystal Cu micropillars with a diameter of several tens of microns or more was proposed. The method first utilized micro-electrical discharge machining, which adopted a micro-tool made of WC-Co material, to fabricate the coarse micropillars, one by one. It took approximately 70 s to fabricate each coarse micropillar. Seventy-six coarse micropillars were fabricated in the process of exploring optimum input parameters of supply voltage and capacitance value. Energy dispersive spectroscopy and electron backscatter diffraction analyses revealed that pristine Cu material could be obtained by removing only 1.2 μm of surface layer. The micropillar was finished using a focused ion beam to form a 15 μm diameter smooth micropillar with an aspect ratio of 3. The desired micropillar was produced by removing a surface layer of 6 μm or more from the side surface to avoid the micro-electrical discharge machining effect. It took approximately 2.5 h to complete the fabrication of a micropillar by stepwise annular milling. In the case of the hybrid method, it was possible to fabricate a high-quality micropillar 17 times faster than the focused ion beam only method.

Abstract: Introduction: Susceptibility perceptions have been extensively studied but COVID-19 severity has been largely neglected As susceptibility and severity may not co-occur, it is necessary to examine both components of disease threat Objective: To examine the knowledge, threat perception, response efficacy, and associations with intended and concurrent COVID-19 preventive measures during a period of receding cases in Malaysia Methods: An online survey of 230 respondents was conducted from 1 to Jul 15 2020 using a 50-item questionnaire to study intention for COVID-19 preventive measures Snowball sampling technique and the 2-step factor analysis of data was done Results: Good knowledge of the disease acquired mainly from the mass media and internet rather than family and friends were reported among the respondents Severity of COVID-19 compared to other flu-like diseases was acknowledged, but a low perception of risk and likelihood of contracting the disease was observed Beliefs in the efficacy of public preventive measures (quarantine, physical distancing, movement restriction and screening) were high Face mask and personal hygiene ranked as the most effective individual preventive measures Intentions for self-quarantine and testing were strong if flu symptoms were perceived Perceived susceptibility is moderately associated with perceived severity and efficacy of recommended preventive measures A stronger relationship was found between perceived efficacy of preventive measures and intended and concurrent health-protective measures Conclusion: The findings suggest that perceptions of disease threat need to focus on susceptibility and severity, and perceptions of severity need to consider perceived severity for self and others © IJCRR

48. Ideal PN photodiode using doping controlled WSe2–MoSe2 lateral heterostructure

Abstract: As the tight contact interface of the lateral PN junction enables high responsivity, specific detectivity, and fast response speed, atomic-scale two-dimensional (2D) lateral PN heterostructures are emerging as viable alternatives to silicon-based photodiodes. The optical properties of the current 2D heterostructures depend entirely on the intrinsic properties of 2D materials, which can be greatly improved by forming an ideal PN diode via the doping control of 2D heterostructures. In this study, we propose a high-performance photodiode using a doping-controlled WSe2–MoSe2 PN heterojunction. During the synthesis, the low chemical reactivity of Nb2O5 with WO3 as compared to MoO3 enables sequential growth and prevents niobium (Nb) doping during MoSe2 growth at low temperatures. Conversely, in the WSe2 growth at high temperatures, tungsten (W) to Nb is selectively substituted, resulting in the lateral heterostructure of Nb-doped WSe2–MoSe2. The Nb atoms in WSe2 change the WSe2 type from ambipolar to p-type dominant. Together with intrinsically n-type MoSe2, Nb-doped WSe2 forms a lateral PN heterostructure with a near-unity ideality factor (1.3) and a high forward/reverse current ratio of 104. Our ideal 2D PN photodiode effectively suppresses the dark current in the reverse bias region (∼100 fA at an overall VDS of 0 V to approximately −10 V) and enhances the photocurrent by the high built-in potential at the PN depletion layer (VOC = 0.52 V). Thus, our device exhibits a high Ilight/Idark ratio (105) and a corresponding ultra-high detectivity (5.78 × 1015 Jones), which are approximately 100 times higher than those of reported lateral 2D PN heterostructure photodiodes. These outstanding performances show that the doping-controlled transition metal dichalcogenide PN heterostructures are promising candidates for next-generation optoelectronics.

50. Ultrasound Findings were Associated With Radiographic Changes, But Not Clinical and Functional Outcomes in Hand Osteoarthritis

Abstract: Objective. There is a debate over the relevance of ultrasound abnormalities to the pain, functional impairment, and radiologic severity in hand osteoarthritis (OA). This study aims to determine the association between ultrasound abnormalities and clinical, functional, and radiographic measures in hand OA. Methods. A total of 66 patients was consecutively enrolled. All patients with gray-scale synovitis, joint effusion, and osteophytes were examined by ultrasound for 20 hand joints. Radiographic changes in both hands were evaluated by the Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grading system and were described as total radiographic severity score and number of affected joints. Other measures were also assessed, including each patient’s visual analogue scale for pain, the Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis for functional disability, and grip and pinch strength for hand muscle strength. Results. In total, 10 patients with gray-scale synovitis, 35 with joint effusion, and 66 with osteophytes were detected in hand OA scans on ultrasound. Osteophytes on ultrasound were significantly associated with total radiographic severity score and number of affected joint (r=0.293, p=0.003 and r=0.336, p＜0.001, respectively). In addition, there were weak associations of synovitis and joint effusion with radiographic changes. Patients with higher total radiographic severity score showed larger number of ultrasound-detected abnormalities, such as synovitis, joint effusion, and osteophytes (p=0.011, p=0.002, and p＜0.001, respectively). Conclusion. This study shows that ultrasound findings, especially osteophytes, were associated with radiographic changes based on K-L grade, but not clinical and functional status in hand OA.
