Circularly polarized (CP) light has attracted wide attention for its great potential in broad applications. However, it remains a challenge to generate left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light from cellulose nanocrystal (CNC)-based materials only with an intrinsic left-handed chiral structure, owing to the pattern of CP light emission primarily based on the chirality of materials. Herein, a separation structure of luminophore layers and chiral CNCs was provided to achieve dual-mode CP light emission by building a luminophore-chiral CNC interface. By directly exciting the back and front of two-layer films, LCP and RCP light could be easily emitted without any assisting means and specific setting angles. In addition, owing to the formation of the luminophore-chiral CNC interface, metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) was achieved to offset the brightness loss caused by circular polarization. By incorporating gold triangular nanoprisms in CNC chiral layers, the fluorescence enhancement of the ensemble was as high as 6.5-fold. The decisive role of the luminophore-chiral CNC interface in enhancing luminescence and dual-mode CP light emission was carefully investigated by contrasting the systems with and without luminophore-chiral CNC interfaces in this study. We believe that this dual-mode CP light emission film with MEF enables a promising approach to extending the application of CP light materials.

Purpose: EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI) benefit patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) harboring activating EGFR mutations. We aimed to identify biomarkers to monitor and predict the progression of patients receiving EGFR-TKIs via a comprehensive omic analysis. Experimental Design: We applied quantitative proteomics to generate the TKI resistance–associated pleural effusion (PE) proteome from patients with ADC with or without EGFR-TKI resistance. Candidates were selected from integrated genomic and proteomic datasets. The PE (n = 33) and serum (n = 329) levels of potential biomarkers were validated with ELISAs. Western blotting was applied to detect protein expression in tissues, PEs, and a cell line. Gene knockdown, TKI treatment, and proliferation assays were used to determine EGFR-TKI sensitivity. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed to evaluate the prognostic values of the potential biomarkers. Results: Fifteen proteins were identified as potential biomarkers of EGFR-TKI resistance. Cadherin-3 (CDH3) was overexpressed in ADC tissues compared with normal tissues. CDH3 knockdown enhanced EGFR-TKI sensitivity in ADC cells. The PE level of soluble CDH3 (sCDH3) was increased in patients with resistance. The altered sCDH3 serum level reflected the efficacy of EGFR-TKI after 1 month of treatment (n = 43). Baseline sCDH3 was significantly associated with PFS and OS in patients with ADC after EGFR-TKI therapy (n = 76). Moreover, sCDH3 was positively associated with tumor stage in non–small cell lung cancer (n = 272). Conclusions: We provide useful marker candidates for drug resistance studies. sCDH3 is a survival predictor and real-time indicator of treatment efficacy in patients with ADC treated with EGFR-TKIs.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one of the immune-related gastrointestinal disorders, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, that affects the life quality of millions of people worldwide. IBD symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding, which may result from the interactions among gut microbiota, food components, intestinal epithelial cells, and immune cells. It is of particular importance to assess how each key gene expressed in intestinal epithelial and immune cells affects inflammation in the colon. G protein-coupled taste receptors, including G protein subunit α-gustducin and other signaling proteins, have been found in the intestines. Here, we use α-gustducin as a representative and describe a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced IBD model to evaluate the effect of gustatory gene mutations on gut mucosal immunity and inflammation. This method combines gene knockout technology with the chemically induced IBD model, and thus can be applied to assess the outcome of gustatory gene nullification as well as other genes that may exuberate or dampen the DSS-induced immune response in the colon. Mutant mice are administered with DSS for a certain period during which their body weight, stool, and rectal bleeding are monitored and recorded. At different timepoints during administration, some mice are euthanized, then the sizes and weights of their spleens and colons are measured and gut tissues are collected and processed for histological and gene expression analyses. The data show that the α-gustducin knockout results in excessive weight loss, diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, tissue damage, and inflammation vs. wild-type mice. Since the severity of induced inflammation is affected by mouse strains, housing environment, and diet, optimization of DSS concentration and administration duration in a pilot experiment is particularly important. By adjusting these factors, this method can be applied to assess both anti- and pro-inflammatory effects.

Controlled-release pesticides are promising formulations for rice pest control. However, it is a big challenge for these formulations to sustainably and stably release pesticide in the soil at the whole process of crop growth. In this paper, based on chemical crosslinking of sulfonic acid group on sodium lignosulfonate (SL) with protonated UIO-66-NH2, we successfully construct a novel double-layer pesticide carrier to achieve the long-term pest control. Besides traditional indoor drug release, this work further investigates the release behavior in the soil column to simulate the outdoor environment. The results of release show that thiamethoxam (TMX)-loaded UIO-66-NH2/SL not only overcomes the shortage of burst release for natural polymer carriers in the soil, but also solves the problem that MOFs-based carrier is released too slowly in the early stage. Specifically, TMX-loaded UIO-66-NH2/SL has excellent biosafety and stability in outdoor environment. As a result, the rice treated by TMX-loaded UIO-66-NH2/SL is not affected by pests within 42 d, and the plant height of rice is up to 41 cm. In contrast, the rice treated by uncoated TMX is affected by pests at 16 d, and the plant height of rice is only 21 cm. Therefore, this study has developed a controlled-release pesticide that is more suitable for practical engineering applications.

ObjectiveTo observe preventive and therapeutic effects and the mechanism of actions on Zishen Yutai pill combined with progesterone on threatened abortion in rats.MethodsAfter pregnancy, 50 SPF female SD rats were selected and divided into control group, model group, progesterone group, Zishen Yutai pill group, and progesterone plus Zishen Yutai pill group (combination group), with 10 rats in each group. The rats of control group and abortion model group were lavaged with 2 mL/kg normal saline on pregnancy day 1 for continuous 10 days. Rats in Zishen Yutai pill group were given 1.575 g/kg/d of Zishen Yutai pill for intragastric administration for continuous 10 days. Rats in progesterone group were given intramuscular injection treatment of 0.1 mL/d progestin, continuous for 10 days. Rats in combination group were given injection therapy of aqueous solution of Zishen Yutai pill for continuous 10 days, and other treatments were the same as previous two groups. Abortion model were established then and live births, numbers of abortion and average rate of abortion were compared between the five groups. Peripheral blood was collected to detect the estradiol (E2) and progestational hormone (P), and obtain ratio of Th1/Th2 cytokines (IL-2, INF-γ, IL-4, IL-10).ResultsSignificant more live births of rats were found in the control group compared with other four groups (P 0.05) but these levels in the control group and Zishen Yutai pill group were significant lower than that of progesterone group and joint group (P

Long-acting release systems of pesticide have been shown great potential in agricultural production, as well as environmental protection. However, the current systems for pesticide controlled-release are still many problems, such as the fast drug release in the early stages, and insufficient drug release in late periods, which cannot actively and efficiently control pests. Herein, an eco-friendly active controlled-release system, dinotefuran@FeCl2(H2O)2O(BDC)3@carboxymethyl chitosan (DNF@MIL-101@CMCS) was successfully prepared by chemical crosslinking. In which, take CMCS as the outer layer, MIL-101 as the inner layer, double layer coated DNF. Its properties of active controlled-release and sustainable anti-pest activity were investigated. As a result, the loading capacity of MIL-101@CMCS to DNF was as high as 24.5%. The DNF of 14.3% was firstly released from the outer layer (CMCS) to achieve early preliminary release. In the late period, the DNF of 83.1% was active released from the inner layer (MIL-101) stimulated by citric acid to achieve long-acting active release. Subsequently, the soil pot experiment results showed that the combination of long and short effect of DNF@MIL-101@CMCS could achieve a long-acting anti-pest activity within 41 days of the entire pest outbreak. Besides, under UV irradiation, the anti-photolysis capacity of DNF protected by MIL-101@CMCS was improved 3.4 times higher than that of uncoated DNF. Therefore, this work provided a promising approach to change the traditional passive release for the active release and improve the utilization rate of pesticide, which is completely consistent with the purpose of cleaner production in agriculture.

This paper presents an improved switched inductor (SL) Z-source inverter, which is derived from the classical SL Z-source inverter. To decrease the input current ripple, the proposed inverter employs an LC boost impedance network between the source and Z-source network. Compared with the SL Z-source inverter, the proposed inverter has the constant input current from the source and increases voltage boost inversion ability significantly. Topology analysis in the steady state is given, and simulation results verify the theoretical analysis results.

The dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is one candidate among the third-generation solar cells. The performance of most DSSCs based on TiO2 photoanode was limited by the low electron mobility within TiO2. To produce a much higher power conversion efficiency, Sn-doped TiO2 nanowire arrays were successfully prepared using a simple hydrothermal process. It was found that Sn doping augments electron mobility well and raises the flat band potential to improve the performance of DSSCs. The power conversion efficiency (&eta, ) of a DSSC based on the reasonable Sn-doped TiO2, N719 dye, platinized counter electrode and iodide/triiodide electrolyte reaches 8.75%. Furthermore, with an anatase TiO2 light scattering layer, a DSSC based on the Sn-doped TiO2 NWAs exhibits a remarkable power conversion efficiency of 9.43%, which is especially useful in weak light conditions.

Based on the traditional internal control system theory and risk analysis of network accounting internal control, a new network accounting security internal control system is proposed and described in detail in this paper. Then we use the fuzzy evaluation method to evaluate the performance of the system, judge the control effect of network computer accounting from the quantitative aspect, and verify the system.

A kind of polarization splitter in ZnTe tellurite glass three-core photonic crystal fiber has been proposed. The polarization splitter is based on the phenomenon of resonant tunneling. We use the finite element method and the full-vector beam propagating method to analyze the characteristics of three-core photonic crystal fiber. Compare with the silica glass three-core PCF, the ZnTe tellurite glass three-core PCF have higher extinction ratios and lower coupling loss, the extinction ratios ERA = − 164.2681 dB and ERC = − 37.1742 dB at the wavelength λ = 1.55 μ m, and the coupling loss is lower than 0.02 dB. The 8.7983-mm-long splitter is proposed to achieve extinction ratio better than − 20 dB and a bandwidthof 20 nm.

Based on information security single item estimation and good enough security theory, decision-making of Internet banking security control proposal is researched in this paper. Internet banking security control decision-making should be executed through asset single item estimation and whole integration estimation this two layers separately. Substitutive of security proposal is discussed, which show that three steps of integration estimation should be cost option, technology feasibility option and security scheme merit rating. On the basis of cost option, technology feasibility option of security choice scheme is executed based on P2DR security theory and optimization option of security scheme is realized using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model of improved layer analysis method.

Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a complex heterogeneous inflammatory disease that affects the nasal cavity, but the pathological examination of the olfactory mucosa (OM) in this disease has been limited. Methods Nasal biopsy specimens were obtained from 20 control subjects and 50 CRS patients in conjunction with clinical assessments. Histopathology of these nasal biopsy specimens was performed and immunohistochemistry was used to characterize nonneuronal, neuronal, and inflammatory cells in the OM. These OM characteristics were then evaluated to determine the degree to which pathological features may be related to smell loss in CRS. Results Histopathological examination of control and CRS OM revealed changes in the normal pseudostratified olfactory epithelium (OE): intermixing of goblet cells, metaplasia to squamous-like cells, and erosion of the OE. Lower percentages of normal epithelium and olfactory sensory neurons were found in CRS OE compared with controls. Relative to other CRS patients, those with anosmia had the greatest amount of OE erosion, the highest density of eosinophils infiltrating the OE, and exhibited the most extensive abnormalities on CT and endoscopic examination, including being significantly more likely to exhibit nasal polyposis. Conclusion Our results suggest that OM pathology observed in nasal biopsy specimens can assist in understanding the degree of epithelial change and sensorineural damage in CRS and the potential for olfactory loss.

Review of the robust literature using acute drug injection paradigms points clearly to the conclusion that morphine is immunosuppressive. In contrast, studies of the effect of subacute or chronic administration of morphine on immune function is limited, with variable results. In some cases tolerance to the immunosuppressive effects of the drug is clearly demonstrated, but in other cases, selected immune parameters do not demonstrate tolerance. Discrepancies in findings may result from differences in species or route and manner of drug administration. Even fewer studies (total of 10) have been published on the effects of withdrawal on immune function. Most immune parameters tested are suppressed following drug withdrawal. Recovery time to baseline response levels varies in the studies. In the single report of withdrawal in humans, immune function was suppressed for up to 3 years. It is clearly established that withdrawal suppresses capacity of murine spleen cells to make an ex vivo antibody response, which contrasts with evidence of polarization of the lymphocytes towards a Th2 phenotype. Several laboratories have shown that subacute and chronic exposure to morphine, as well as drug withdrawal, sensitize to the lethal effects of bacterial lipopolysaccharide. Underlying sepsis, combined with morphine-induced hypofunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, may be occult variables modulating immune responses during opioid administration and withdrawal. As episodes of withdrawal are common among drug abusers, more intensive investigation is warranted on the effects of withdrawal on immune function, on mechanisms of immune modulation, and on sensitization to infection.

We have shown previously that withdrawal from morphine induces immunosuppression in mice. The present study reports the effects of morphine withdrawal on infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Mice were made dependent on morphine by the implantation of a slow-release morphine pellet for 96 h. Controls received a placebo pellet. Withdrawal was induced by pellet removal. Mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with Salmonella 24 h postwithdrawal. Morphine withdrawal sensitized mice to Salmonella infection, as evidenced by increased mortality, shortened mean survival time, and increased bacterial load in the blood, spleen, and liver. Examination of the levels of a panel of proinflammatory cytokines in sera of infected, morphine-withdrawn mice showed that morphine withdrawal inhibited the elevation of interleukin-12p70 (IL-12p70). The production of IL-12p40 in morphine withdrawal mice was also suppressed. The administration of exogenous IL-12 significantly decreased the bacterial burden in morphine-withdrawn mice. These studies show a correlation between the suppression of IL-12 production and a heightened susceptibility to Salmonella infection in mice undergoing withdrawal from morphine.

Mice made dependent on morphine using slow-release morphine pellets for 96 h were withdrawn by removal of pellets, followed by a sublethal dose of LPS 24 h later. These animals exhibited 100% lethality. Animals withdrawn from placebo pellets receiving LPS all survived, as did morphine-withdrawn mice receiving saline. Morphine-withdrawn LPS-treated animals had elevated serum TNF-alpha and nitric oxide levels, and depressed IL-12 levels compared to controls. Anti-TNF-alpha antibody given prior to LPS challenge afforded significant protection to morphine-withdrawn animals. These studies show that morphine withdrawal sensitizes to LPS lethality via increased production of TNF-alpha.

Our laboratory has shown previously that subcutaneously implanted, slow-release morphine pellets markedly enhanced susceptibility to oral infection with Salmonella typhimurium. Further, morphine, kappa and delta opioid receptor agonists infused via osmotic minipumps were immunosuppressive. The present study compared morphine pellets to morphine pumps and also examined the differential effects of morphine versus U50,488H (kappa agonist), deltorphin II (delta2 agonist), and (D-Pen2, D-Pen5)-enkephalin (DPDPE, delta1 agonist), administered via Alzet minipumps, on oral Salmonella infection and on gastrointestinal transit. The results show that all morphine-pelleted mice (26/26) had a marked increase in Salmonella burden in the Peyer's Patches, mesenteric lymph nodes and spleen. In comparison, only 8/20 mice receiving morphine by minipump at doses ranging from 1 to 25 mg/kg/day had any culturable Salmonella in their organs and the number of bacteria was very low. The level of Salmonella colonization correlated with blood morphine levels and gut transit measured using an intragastric charcoal meal. Morphine pellets inhibited gut transit by 38%, while mice receiving morphine by minipump at doses of 1 to 25 mg/kg/day showed only a dose-dependent 7% to 17% inhibition. Mice receiving various doses of U50,488H or DPDPE had no culturable Salmonella in the three sites. Deltorphin II given by minipump resulted in a moderate level of Salmonella in the spleen. Deltorphin II and U50,488H (0.1 to 10 mg/kg/day) did not suppress gut transit. The present studies indicate that a predominantly mu opioid receptor agonist, morphine, given by slow-release pellet, potentiated Salmonella infection and inhibited gastrointestinal transit. In contrast, morphine in pumps slightly inhibited intestinal transit, but did not sensitize to Salmonella infection. A delta1 opioid receptor agonist did not sensitize to infection, and a delta2 and a kappa opioid receptor agonist had minimal effects on either parameter.

In this study, we investigated the effect of morphine on the mucosal immune system using fragment cultures of ileal segments, Peyer’s patches (PPs), and mesenteric lymph nodes. Mice were implanted s.c. with a morphine slow release pellet. Control groups received a naltrexone slow release pellet, a placebo pellet, or both a morphine and a naltrexone pellet. After 48 h, mice were orally immunized with cholera toxin (CT) and were boosted orally 1 wk later. Animals were sacrificed 1 wk after the booster immunization, and PPs, mesenteric lymph nodes, and ileal segments were cultured in 24-well plates for 12 days. Morphine resulted in a highly significant inhibition of CT-specific IgA and IgG production in fragment culture supernatants of all three tissues compared with placebo. Naltrexone blocked the reduction in Ab levels induced by morphine, indicating that the effect is opioid receptor mediated. Morphine did not significantly alter total IgA levels in any of the tissue culture supernatants. Morphine also inhibited CT-specific IgA and IgG levels in serum. By flow cytometry, morphine did not alter the lymphoid cell composition in PPs compared with placebo. The effect of morphine on TGF-β, IL-5, and IL-6 mRNA expression in PPs and ileal segments was determined following oral immunization with CT. Morphine significantly decreased TGF-β mRNA compared with that in the placebo group, and naltrexone blocked this effect. These results indicate that morphine inhibits Ag-specific IgA responses in gut-associated lymphoid tissue at least partially through the inhibition of TGF-β, a putative IgA switch factor, in the gastrointestinal tract.
