This article assessed the relationship between psychological empowerment and project success through direct and indirect effects of knowledge sharing. The assumptions outlined in this article were built on the self-determination theory (SDT). In this article, two surveys were conducted to test the proposed hypotheses. Data for study 1 were collected from employees (N = 168) working in the Pakistani telecommunication sector, while data for study 2 were gathered from (N = 160) employees working on development sector projects. Time-lagged design was employed to minimize common method bias. As a result, psychological empowerment emerged as a critical factor for the project success both directly and indirectly via knowledge sharing. Hence, this article recommends several theoretical and practical implications for practitioners and academicians.

The formwork system (FWS) is one of the key components in reinforced concrete (RC) construction. Therefore, selection of the most appropriate FWS plays a critical role in the project success. Because selection of the FWS is affected by several compromising and conflicting criteria, since the early 1990s, numerous studies have been carried out to identify the FWS selection criteria and (or) have employed various multicriterion decision-making (MCDM) methods. However, there is no research to date that has conducted a critical review of the previous studies addressing the FWS selection criteria in construction projects. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap. For this purpose, a critical review of the relevant literature was carried out using an integrative approach, and the findings were validated through face-to-face interviews with professionals specialized in formwork engineering. The findings of this study should provide practitioners with a useful guide that can assist them in selecting the most appropriate FWS.

The traditional approach to assess information system (IS) project success is adherence to planning (ATP) – meeting budget, schedule, and requirements targets. Today, scholars agree that ATP is insufficient to adequately assess IS project success, but an agreed-on set of success criteria is still missing. Many works on this topic are based on theoretical considerations rather than empirical inquiries. We analyze practitioners’ subjective perspectives by investigating what criteria IS project managers consider relevant for IS project success assessment. We interview eleven experienced project managers in Germany, applying Repertory Grid and Laddering to minimize potential biases. Our results yield eight success criteria, indicating that criteria like process efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction must be considered in addition to ATP. Scholars can use our findings to apply the identified success criteria in future studies. Practitioners gain insights into the expert perspective on project success and might rethink the way of assessing success in their projects.

In recent years, crowdfunding has gained a lot of popularity as it helps to leverage the power of the crowd in the development and commercialization of new products. Thus, scholars are encouraged to explore factors that could enhance the success of these crowdfunding projects. This article investigates the impact of social interaction (i.e., proactively updating the potential funders and seeking their feedback) on the success of the crowdfunding project among technology ventures. Moreover, we examine the moderating role of the product characteristics, i.e., product development stage and product innovativeness, on the relationship between social interaction and crowdfunding success. To test our hypotheses, we conducted two studies. For the first study, we collected and analyzed data from 203 Kickstarter projects from the mobile apps technology category. For the second study, we designed two short experiments with four hypothetical mobile apps technology projects each and collected data from 132 crowdfunders about their likelihood of supporting the projects. Both studies clearly highlight that social interaction has a significant positive impact on project success in terms of receiving funding and feedback among technological ventures. This article also suggest that products in the ideation stage benefit more from social interaction than products in the commercialization stage. Moreover, in contrast to our assumption, our findings indicate that the positive relationship between social interaction and project success is stronger for products with incremental innovativeness than radical innovativeness. Our study adds to the existing literature in crowdfunding by highlighting ways by which entrepreneurs can improve the success of their crowdfunding projects.

PurposeThe paper responds to calls in recent research for a model that shows how the business case should be used throughout the project's lifetime to achieve sound governance and thereby project success. The aim of the paper is to advance theory about the effective use of the business case.Design/methodology/approachBesides the processes and information required, the literature identified 43 organizational facilitating factors, structured into 5 categories, which are required for effective use of the business case. To offer a useful model, the authors' approach was to do a factor analysis, based on existing survey data, to reduce the number of facilitators and to validate their categorization.FindingsThe findings of the paper were as follows: (1) the classification of the proposed facilitating factors was validated; (2) the number of facilitators needed to ensure that the business case is used effectively was substantially reduced and (3) a “business case effectiveness model” is proposed to clarify the relationship between the organizational facilitating factors, the business case processes and the information required to effectively use the business case.Originality/valueThis is the first time that a business case effectiveness model has been proposed. Besides consolidating business case theory, it can be used to guide people and organizations on simple, affordable ways to improve their use of the business case to achieve sound governance and hence business/information technology project success.

Information Technology (IT) projects are enablers of organizational transformation and business growth. Despite the contribution of methodologies and frameworks for project management, the ratio of failed IT projects remains high; then, studying critical success factors of IT projects persist as an essential issue for researches and practitioners. This paper presents a systematic literature review focused on compiling and synthesizing project success factors in IT projects. The literature search was conducted using primary journal articles until 2017. All studies agree on the relevance of studying the critical success factors in IT projects given their particular characteristics. The results indicate there is no clear definition of project success concept; our review consolidates the IT success criteria into time, budget, project management, system quality, user satisfaction, and economic value. Also, there a vast and overlapped list of factors; so, this research proposes a structure that synthesizes the most referenced critical factors that have in common soft attributes as involvement, support, communication, and commitment. Findings reinforce the relevance of soft skills in IT project teams.

Projects are essential drivers for business growth and success. The project’s aim is analyzing the effect of transformational leadership factors on succeeding the projects. The study will investigate transformational leadership factors (Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intellectual Stimulation & Individualized Consideration) and their direct influence on project success. Examining the impact of each factor will support project leaders and project resources to influence project progress for delivering and achieving project success and eliminating potential project losses and unnecessary project failures. Data from 216 project members working in Saudi Arabia for managing and executing projects were gathered and screened before being analyzed and empirically tested using the Structural Equation Model. The findings are supported for hypotheses suggested and showed that transformational leadership as well as 3 factors (idealized influence, intellectual stimulation and individual based consideration) have a significant relationship influencing progress and ultimately impacting project success. The study concludes that inspirational motivation has insignificant effect on project success. The results are inviting project leaders to adopt transformational leadership and raise the awareness, which stimulates the employees to express their ideas, effective feedback, and concerns to create a situation for the employee to deliver best performance levels. The most significant contribution is recognizing the positive effect of at the transformational leadership on study progress and ultimately help project managers to secure the success.

PurposeThis study aims to empirically investigate the relationship between different global software development (GSD) challenges (management, process, social, technical and environmental challenges) and software project success. Further, the study examines the moderating role of total quality management (TQM) between the relationship of GSD challenges and success of software projects.Design/methodology/approachUsing two field studies, the authors collected data form software developers working in globally distributed teams. In study 1 (n = 194), relationship of different dimensions of GSD challenges (management, process, social, technical and environmental challenges) and project success was examined. In study 2 (n = 138), moderating role of TQM was examined on the relationship of GSD challenges and project success.FindingsThe results of study 1 indicate that there is a negative relationship between all dimensions of GSD challenges and project success. Findings of study 2 confirmed that TQM practices moderate the negative relationship between GSD challenges and project success.Practical implicationsThe findings of the study provide guidelines to the project managers of software industry to mitigate GSD challenges using TQM practices.Originality/valueStudy adds in the literature of TQM, GSD challenges and project success by (1) empirically investigating the relationship between different GSD challenges and software project success and (2) by examining the moderating role of TQM practices on relationship of GSD challenges and project success in global software development industry.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to determine the effect of conscientiousness and extraversion personality traits on project success. The relationship is mediated by affective professional commitment, whilst the relationship between personality traits and project success is moderated by organizational project management maturity.Design/methodology/approachThe deductive approach is used to achieve the objectives of this study. Data were collected through a purposive sampling technique from 250 respondents with the help of questionnaires from information technology sectors. The structural equation modelling (SEM) in partial least squares-SEM and SPSS is used to analyse the data and to examine the hypothesis.FindingsThe outcomes demonstrate the partial mediating impact of affective professional commitment between the relationship of conscientiousness and extraversion personalities with project success. Additionally, it proves the moderating effects of project management maturity between the relationship of conscientiousness and extraversion personalities with project success.Practical implicationsThis study reflects that employee personality appears to be a reliable indicator of how an employee is faithful to his profession. This faithfulness or duty decides the employee’s execution in terms of offering a successful project. Thus, achieving employee commitment needs to be done by completing the project successfully by the organizations in the presence of project management maturity systems.Originality/valueIt is the first study of its kind to provide experimental proof of the impact of a manager’s personality traits on project success in the presence of affective professional commitment (mediator) and organizational project management maturity (moderator).

Previous studies have linked public-sector employees’ motivation to desired results such as higher performance and improved quality of public services. However, questions about the impact of employee motivation on public projects have received less attention. This article uses work motivation theory to explore the fundamental processes by which transformational leadership (TL) and public service motivation (PSM) engender public project success (PS). Analysis of 296 public servants’ data working on Pakistan public projects showed a positive correlation between TL, PSM, and PS. It also showed that PSM partially mediates the relationship between TL and PS.

The impact of behavioral aspects on project success remains an area that requires more attention. Drawing on the social exchange theory (SET), our study tested the mediating role of project citizenship behavior (PCB) in the relationships of all four organizational justice dimensions (i.e., procedural, distributive, informational, and interpersonal justice) with project success. A time-lagged survey of project team members ( n = 233) was conducted and analyzed through structural equation modeling (SEM). The results indicate that all four organizational justice dimensions are positively associated with project success, whereas informational justice appears to be the most influential dimension, and that PCB mediates all of these relationships. Project managers/sponsors should enact organizational justice and enhance project citizenship to achieve project success.

An increasing number of organizations operate through projects to achieve their strategic objectives. The main objective of this study is to analyse the degree of dissemination of the project management (PM) practices and their contribution to projects success. A survey performed to project managers aims to identify the extent to which the different knowledge areas and their respective PM practices are implemented and linked to projects success. The results achieved underlines that the practices related with cost, time, and scope management are the most well stablished. Furthermore, the study highlighted that other knowledge areas had an effect on projects success. Moreover, the project managers pointed out other less immediately reachable criteria for project success like end-customers and project team satisfaction or fulfilment of organizational objectives. The use of a multidimensional analytical approach to PM makes an important contribution in the analyses of the practices and factors that most contributed to project success.

The aim of the study is to assess the relationship between project management (PM) practices and project success (PS) criteria in engineering firms in Kuwait. As a first step, a comprehensive literature review followed by interviews with CEOs from 10 selected firms and consultations with three experts were conducted to design the research framework. As a result, a research model that consists of PM practices measured by six dimensions (leadership, IT, teamwork, planning, governance, and communication) and PS criteria measured by three dimensions (impact on customers, impact on project team, and business success) were instilled. Based on statistical analysis on the survey responses, it was found that communication and teamwork are the strongest predictors for PS criteria, and other PM dimensions were perceived to be less important. This result is encouraging and comforting as it shows that the team-oriented factors are perceived to be important in the success of projects and implies that having a cohesive team is crucial for managing successful projects.

The role of shared leadership behavior in a project context has received insufficient empirical and theoretical attention. This paper explores its influence on project success, specifically in an IT project context. The paper additionally investigates the mediating role of knowledge sharing, cohesion, and trust in team as moderators. We collected the data of 236 team members in IT projects on two-time points and analyzed the conditional process model through PROCESS after achieving model fit. Results revealed that shared leadership amplifies project success directly and via knowledge sharing and cohesion. Slope analysis revealed that trust in team has an interaction effect with cohesion and knowledge sharing which also affects project success. The study discussed the practical implications and drew conclusions from the results.

As a general definition, software engineering is “the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software.” The importance of user-related factors has long been recognized by various researchers as important to the successful implementation of any commercially available system. This study attempts to test the importance of these factors as determinants of software engineering project success as measured by adherence to specified requirements, compliance with initial budget estimations, timeliness of agreed delivery, and overall user satisfaction with the product delivered. It has brought together some user-related variables (degree of user participation, user expertise, user/developer communication, user training, user influence, and user conflict) previously studied separately by different authors into a more cohesive model. Data regarding 178 system development projects using software engineering methodologies has been used to test proposed relationships between the independent variables and project success as defined in this study. The results confirm the importance of user participation, training, expertise, user/developer communication, and lack of user conflict for improving project success.

In project-based organizations, studies into the role of leadership have usually concentrated on project managers or top management but less on leaders who coordinate several projects in order to improve project performance. This study, therefore, examines the role of leadership behaviors (e.g. reward and punishment) on project success among Kuantan, Malaysian construction industries. Using a questionnaire survey, the data were collected from 107 respondents among Kuantan construction companies. PLS-SEM techniques were used in this research to assess both the measurement and structural models. The study found a positive and significant relationship between leadership behaviors measures with reward and punishment on project success in Kuantan, Malaysia. The study reinforces the relevance of leadership behaviours in improving project success and also highlights the necessity for project-based organizations to enhance their performance.

Purpose: This study aims to observe the effect of religion-based work ethics, i.e., Islamic work ethics (IWE) and High-performance work practices (HPWP), on the success of projects in the development sector of Pakistan. Further, the study proposes project governance as a moderator between IWE, HPWP, and project success. Methodology: This is a quantitative study and used a convenience sampling technique to collect the data. The data was collected from the project-based organization in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Muzaffarabad, and 239 questionnaires were circulated to the employees of project-based organizations. For data analysis, SPSS was used. Results: Results indicate that IWE and HPWP significantly contribute towards project success. Likewise, the results of moderated regression analysis show that project governance enhances the positive relationship between IWE, HPWP, and project success. These results have been discussed. Practical Implications: The results carry significant implications for managers of project-based organizations. Our results point towards the importance of work ethics, high-performance work practices, and governance mechanisms towards the success of projects. Managers should thus be vigilant toward these mechanisms. Originality: The contribution of this study is that first time we see the impact of Islamic work ethics on project success. Islamic work Ethics is an essential and worthwhile concern for an organization because it allows employees to work honestly and ethically to achieve project success.

Purpose of the study: This research examines the major organisation strength factors, important project management competencies, and the criteria for project success, and their interrelationship. Methodology: A mixed-method approach is applied with a positivist stance to test the validity of the proposed hypotheses. Based on the detailed literature review and five expert interviews, 'organisation strengths' are identified and classified into three subcategories, making a second-order construct. A survey strategy is used to collect data from PMO individuals of construction organisations. SmartPLS software is used to analyse 97 responses. Main Findings: The results of this study support the proposed relationship. It suggests that organisation strengths influence project management competencies and project success. Furthermore, resources and capabilities influence project success. The findings are in line with the literature suggesting that organisation resources and capabilities are important for project success. Application of the study: This study is relevant for PMO individuals, especially in construction organisations. The findings highlight the importance of organisational strengths that lead to build project management competencies and eventually attain project success. These organisational strengths are of great significance to both the researchers and industry practitioners. The originality of the study: This study has applied a mixed-method approach. The model in the study empirically tests the organisation strength factors affecting project success. Furthermore, the study used SmartPLS software to test the influence of organisation strength to increase project management competencies and their cumulative effect on project success.

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate the emergence of new success measures for buildings and infrastructure post-disaster reconstruction projects, beyond the traditional ”iron triangle”, which have gained prominence with the increased involvement of clients and end-users in these projects. Consequently, the industry is obliged to reconsider the critical factors regarding what constitutes a successful outcome from the perspectives of these stakeholders.Design/methodology/approachData was gathered from end-users in four Caribbean islands using a questionnaire survey on eight empirical success indicators obtained from an extensive systematic literature review. To elicit a ranking and correlations amongst the end-user’ perspectives on the indicators, factor analysis and structural equation modelling techniques (SEM) were conducted.FindingsThe factor analysis found “safety” to be the most important empirical success measure, while “change” ranked the least important. Correlation analysis using SEM identified two new composite indicators, namely, “competence” with delivering timely and quality environmentally friendly and sustainable projects and “adaptability” in ensuring project objectives reflect beneficiaries’ expectations amidst internal and external influences, to be critical of end-users’ measurement indicators that describe their assessment mechanism. Measurement and structural models validated “safety” and “satisfaction” to be the highest loading variables in the two composites, respectively.Research limitations/implicationsThe research focussed on findings in English language articles; therefore, any claim to a complete list of indicators from the literature can be amiss.Practical implicationsResults confirm the traditional “iron triangle” of time, cost and quality to be limited in assessing reconstruction project outcomes and the views and expectations of the potential beneficiaries need to be factored in the planning, design, execution and post-handover stages in all reconstruction projects.Originality/valueThis paper was very specific in its attempt to investigate new success indicators for reconstruction project outcomes, aiming to assist with developing comprehensive project objectives that resonate with all stakeholder groups.

Aligning the project management approach to a particular project is considered to be essential for project success. Based on the literature review, in this research, the project management approach is analyzed through differentiation between agile and traditional approaches within the specific managerial aspects. This research aimed to contrast these two project management approaches and explore their impact on different project success dimensions. The research was conducted on a sample of 227 project management professionals worldwide, using the PLS-SEM method. Research results denounced that, in most cases, the traditional approach is applied in project initiation and planning. It has proven to provide higher-level od project success, while, within all other managerial aspects considered in this research, they gravitate more towards the agile approach. By combining agile and traditional approaches, organizations can take advantage of some benefits of agile development without abandoning the stability provided by a traditional approach. The study is relevant for project management practitioners tailoring down the success-oriented project management approach and developing project management contingency theory for academics.

The aim of this study is proposing a framework for the roll of effective communications to all stakeholders in moderating project complexity to improve project success. This paper deeply reviewed the studies published in project complexity and it is effect on success of construction project. This research reveals that effect communications as the most important factor can play a significant role in influencing the relationship between complexity and project success. It was confirmed from previous studies that the negative impact of project complexity on success of construction project is conclusive. Complexity dimensions identified by the Project Management Institute (PMI) into three groups are: human behaviour, ambiguity, and system behaviour. Many empirical studies proved there is a positive and significant relationship between project complexity and project success. Thus, there is a need for a moderating variable to enhance the success of complex construction projects. In this study the main contribution is bridging this gap of knowledge by empirical examining the relations between complexity of construction projects and project success with the interaction of effective communications to all stakeholders as a moderator. This study will enhance development of construction projects in Malaysia and assist scholars and practitioners to achieve maximum project success.

Purpose Several research studies on Lean Six Sigma (LSS) have been done using the survey methodology. However, the use of surveys often relies on the measurement of variables, which cannot be directly observed, with attendant measurement errors. The purpose of this study is to develop a methodological framework consisting of a combination of four tools for identifying and assessing measurement error during survey research. Design/methodology/approach This paper evaluated the viability of the framework through an experimental study on the assessment of project management success in a developing country environment. The research design combined a control group, pretest and post-test measurements with structural equation modeling that enabled the assessment of differences between honest and fake survey responses. This paper tested for common method variance (CMV) using the chi-square test for the difference between unconstrained and fully constrained models. Findings The CMV results confirmed that there was significant shared variance among the different measures allowing us to distinguish between trait and faking responses and ascertain how much of the observed process measurement is because of measurement system variation as opposed to variation arising from the study’s constructs. Research limitations/implications The study was conducted in one country, and hence, the results may not be generalizable. Originality/value Measurement error during survey research, if not properly addressed, can lead to incorrect conclusions that can harm theory development. It can also lead to inappropriate recommendations for practicing managers. This study provides findings from a framework developed and assessed in a LSS project environment for identifying faking responses. This paper provides a robust framework consisting of four tools that provide guidelines on distinguishing between fake and trait responses. This tool should be of great value to researchers.

The study aimed to establish the relationship between project implementation, risk management practices and project success for projects implemented by NGOs in Iganga Municipality. The study used a quantitative, correlational and cross-sectional survey design. The sample consisted of 117 respondents who included project managers, their assistants, and accountants of 45 projects implemented by NGOs in Iganga Municipality. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analysed using statistical packages for social scientists (SPSS). This study discusses project implementation and risk management practices as the issues involved in project success and or failure. The study concluded that project implementation and risk management practices were significant in improving project success. This study recommended that NGOs in Iganga Municipality need to put much emphasis on project implementation and risk management practices as a way of improving project success as their correlation is significant.

The basic aim of the current study is to examine whether there is any relationship between Spiritual leadership (SL) and project Success (PS) through mediating role of goal clarity (GC). For this purpose this study used quantitative research approach and test the all statistical results through SmartPLS for 326 responded gathered from employs that were associated with software projects in the education and health care industries of Islamabad and Rawalpindi region, Pakistan. All the proposed hypothesis were accepted and result validated that SL is positively and significantly backing to GC and PS. In addition to this, findings also show that GC is shown positive and significant impact on PS and GC is positively and significantly mediate the linkages between SL and PS. There is a key evidence that research on SL and PS is too limited. Therefore, this study using the causal SL theory that identified that how SL is crucial for PS and provide a valuable extension to the SL in the project management literature. This research also disscuss the theortical, practical of this reearch and provide the future recomeneation for further exploration.

Transdisciplinary researchers collaborate with diverse partners outside of academia to tackle sustainability problems. The patterns and practices of social interaction and the contextual nature of transdisciplinary research result in different performance expectations than traditional, curiosity-driven research. Documenting patterns of interaction can inform project success and affirm progress toward interim outcomes on the way to achieve sustainability impacts. Yet providing credible and robust indicators of research activity remains challenging. We provide quantitative and qualitative indicators for assessing transdisciplinary practices and patterns through social network analysis (SNA). Our assessment developed four criteria to reveal how SNA metrics provide insight into (1) diversity of participants; (2) whether and how integration and collaboration are occurring, (3) the relative degrees of network stability and fragility, and (4) how the network is structured to achieve its goals. These four key criteria can be used to help identify patterns of research activity and determine whether interim progress is occurring.

Purpose: The study aims to explain the role of transformational leadership style in mediating team performance and its affect on project success.Approach/Methodology/Design: The method of determining the sample used is random sampling. The study population is construction companies in Pakistan. The sample used was a size of230subordinates as respondents. Data collection is done through survey by distributing questionnaires offline that have been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis technique used is the SEM-PLS Analysis.Findings: The results showed that transformational leadership variable positively and significantly affects project success.Transformational leadership has a positive relationship with team performance and team performance also has a positive relation with project success. This study also proves the direct and indirect affect of transformational leadership on project success.Practical Implication: Therefore, transformational leadership provides a clear understanding to improve rate of project success and team performance.Originality/Value:Increasing team performance strategy can significantly mediate the affect of transformational leadership on project success in construction sector of Pakistan.

Project management (PM) and systems engineering (SE) practitioners and academics experience various challenges regarding meaningful interaction while seeking project success. This situation exists despite sophisticated PM and SE software tools, the existing body of knowledge documents of different professional bodies, and numerous publications addressing this challenge. Generally, projects are fragmented from their initiation on the highest level into a ‘technical’ process and a project management process. This paper summarises the outcomes of several research projects undertaken from 2012 until recently to analyse the problem. The outputs of these studies are also compared with contemporary research to present an understanding of the problem and to suggest potential solutions to improve PM and SE interaction. The aim is to provide a starting point for future-focused research to evaluate the proposed improvements.

As the number of projects increase in diverse fields, so the demand for effective project managers increases. In the United Arab Emirates, the recent exponential growth has resulted in increased projects. However, determining an individual who would make an effective project manager continues to be a challenge. In this study, the correlation between emotional intelligence and project success was explored. Initially, valuable secondary research was carried out to point out the main features a project manager with high Emotional Intelligence (EI) exhibits followed by proof of correlation between those features and an above average EI score. An online survey was administered to fifteen project managers to collect data concerning their emotional intelligence and the success of their projects. According to the findings, emotional intelligence correlates strongly with project success. Consequently, this study recommends that organizations should hire emotionally intelligent project managers to ensure project management success.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the impact of inclusive leadership on project success with the mediating role of innovative work behavior and moderating role of knowledge sharing. Data were collected from information technology projects in Pakistan. After validating the proposed model, path analysis was conducted. The findings revealed that inclusive leadership is significantly related with innovative work behavior and project success. Further, the findings showed that innovative work mediates the relationship between inclusive leadership and project success. Moreover, knowledge sharing doesn't moderate the relationship between inclusive leadership and innovative work behavior. The theoretical and practical implications and limitations of the study are discussed in detail.

The purpose of this paper is to provide insight into the role of reward-based crowdfunding in farm financing, with a focus on its likelihood of success. The study uses a sample of 1,566 projects from the Kickstarter platform between 2014 and 2020. We added the level of urbanisation and relative importance of agriculture in the country's economy to the basic elements to assess the importance of the crowdfunding. We run a logistic regression model to investigate factors that motivate investment decisions. We discovered a statistically significant negative correlation between the self-set campaign goal and project success, as well as a small positive impact of number of backers and a positive impact of the importance of agriculture in the country's economy on crowdfunding success. In an era of rapid innovation and the rise of social networks, this paper contributes to the current literature on the agri-food industry's reword-based crowdfunding approach.

Adequate leadership is a vital key to the successful performance of any firm or business, and it is much more important to the construction industry. The main objective of this paper is to explore the relationship between different leadership style practices and project success in the Zambian construction industry. The data used in this research were derived from both primary and secondary sources. The secondary data was collected via a detailed review of related literature. The primary data was collected through a structured questionnaire aimed at 150 project and construction managers in the Zambian construction industry. However, 110 questionnaires were received representing a 73% response rate. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 software. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between leadership styles and project success. Likewise, the relationship between the different leadership styles and project successes in the Zambian construction industry was investigated using Pearson Product-moment Correlation Coefficient. Findings from the study revealed that there is a positive relationship between transactional leadership and project success. The results further revealed that there is no relationship between Laissez faire leadership style and construction project success. However, the study explores the relationship between leadership styles and project success in the Zambian construction industry. The study contributes to the body of knowledge of construction leadership by providing a robust background on construction leadership style practices of project and construction managers.

Crowdfunding platforms serve to connect project creators and backers. Previous research has explored several project and platform determinants that impact crowdfunding outcomes. However, there has been limited research on these determinants at an individual level. Our paper addresses how backers may influence the outcomes of projects in crowdfunding platforms. We explore several methods commonly used in the industry to identify influence and show that centrality measures through a backer affiliation network best exemplifies influence. Using data from Kickstarter, we construct a weighted backer network based on 52,678 common projects backed by 11,134 backers. Controlling for digital media mentions and project quality, we find evidence that backers in central positions within the network have a positive impact on multiple project outcomes such as the project success rates, amount of funds raised, speed of reaching the crowdfunding goal as well as the number of backers contributing to the project. These findings are replicated and reinforced by using data from a different crowdfunding platform using the entire backer network based on 1095 projects backed by 87,896 backers. Several robustness tests are used to validate these results.

PurposeDrawing on the knowledge-based view, the study aims to investigate the impact of knowledge management enablers (entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge-oriented leadership) on knowledge management processes and project success. The study further ascertains the specific combinations of knowledge management enablers and knowledge management processes that can lead to project success.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data were collected from 222 project workers in information technology projects, and the proposed relationships were assessed through partial least squares structural equation modeling while configuration paths were assessed using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis.FindingsThe study found a significant impact of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge-oriented leadership on knowledge management processes and project success. The analysis also revealed that knowledge management processes did not significantly impact project success. Moreover, the insights from fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis show a clear pattern of equifinality, in that there are multiple combinations of knowledge management enablers and knowledge management processes that can lead to a successful project.Originality/valueThe current study is one of the earlier studies to provide insights to knowledge-based view by demonstrating the inter-relationship of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge-oriented leadership with knowledge management processes and project success. To the best of authors' knowledge, this is the first study to assess the impact of knowledge-oriented leadership on project success. With limited studies on impact of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge-oriented leadership on knowledge management processes, the study enriches the literature on linkage of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge-oriented leadership with knowledge management processes. Methodological contributions include use of fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis to reveal multiple pathways to project success.

One of the most important goals in construction projects management is to complete the project in a certain time. Projects success can be considered as doing work at a reasonable cost, quality and at the right time and delay is one of the most important and frequent phenomena in construction projects and in terms of cost, quality and time has a negative impact on project success. From in-depth literature studies, twenty-three causes of delay were identified. Questionnaires were then developed and sent to 50 carefully selected construction industry stakeholders including: clients, contractors, and consultants in Faryab/Afghanistan. In this research, the causes of delays in construction of Maimana city urban asphalt road 32.805 km projects have been identified. Numerous factors such as: insecurity, corruption, low experience of the contractors technical team, late payment of invoices by the project owner, poor management and monitoring of the site by the contractor and Contractor's joint venture can cause delays in projects.

Context: A stable team is deemed optimal for agile software development project success; however, all teams change membership over time. Newcomers joining an agile project team must rapidly assimilate into the organisational and project environment. They must do this while learning how to contribute effectively and without seriously interrupting project progress. Objective: This paper addresses how newcomers integrate into an established agile project team and how agile practices assist with onboarding. Method: A single, qualitative case study approach was used, investigating a co-located agile project team in a large IT department who regularly onboard inexperienced newcomers. Analysis was abductive, consisting of inductive coding and theming using categories from an existing onboarding theory. Results: We describe the team’s onboarding practices and adjustments and present an agile onboarding model that encompasses onboarding activities, individual adjustments, and workplace adjustments. Conclusions: A mixture of general and specific agile onboarding practices contribute to successful onboarding in an agile team. We provide practical guidelines to improve onboarding practice in agile teams. Our major new contribution is an extended model of onboarding for agile teams.

Agile methodologies that have proven themselves are actively developing. Choosing a methodology is complicated as each of them has its own pros and cons. Project outcome depends not only on methodology, but also on the definition of success. There is lack of research on how agile practices independently impact project success. The aim of this work is to measure the impact agile practices have on IT-project success. The object of the study is agile practices used in IT-projects; the subject of the study are features of agile methodology usage in IT-project. The paper shows two practices — Stand-up and Kanban-board — are guaranteed to contribute to IT-project success if used correctly. At the same time, another significant characteristic of IT-project success is leadership openness to agile methodologies.

PurposeThe purpose of this research is to identify and accumulate knowledge on the existing developments on project success measures. The authors aim to contribute to this debate by providing both researchers and project management professionals with reliable contemporary project success criteria that permit generalization for a proper assessment regardless of the type and context of the project.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 264 Brazilian project managers from a range of industries, sectors of activities and business areas with different levels of experience. Data analysis was performed using the R software package.FindingsIn this research, the authors propose a general performance measure of project success where different projects can grade differently using the same scale. The data analysis validated five constructs of the developed model in the Brazilian setting.Originality/valueMost of the actual project success measures used in project management literature have been tested in a specific industry or sector. Combinations of the type of project, industry, sector, project nature, stakeholders and other variables make each project unique. Thus, any effort to find a context-specific tool of measure will be an endless endeavor. To fill this gap, more general project success criteria need to be explored to offer a common point of comparison between projects. This is the motivation of the present study.

Within building design team, communication has increasingly become multifaceted. Yet, despite the fast increasing communication modes and the introduction of design tools, most projects are still delivered below expectations. This study investigated the implication of design team’s communication on project success using a mixed research method (Quantitative and Qualitative approaches). Eighteen completed projects were randomly selected from five public organizations in Ibadan, Nigeria. Participants were drawn from the design professionals and client representative involved in each of the project (N=102). The quantitative data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient analysis while qualitative data from semi-structured interviews were subjected to content analysis. Adequate participation of team members in meetings, provision of adequate information and appropriate use of design tools emerged as the key communication qualities which affect the project success. Based on these findings, recommendations were made towards improving design team effectiveness.

Purpose In modern times, innovation is considered as a vital component of sustainable competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to identify how innovation at the individual level [innovative work behavior (IWB)] and at the organizational level [innovative organizational climate (IOC)] affects the chances of success of a particular project. Additionally, the moderating effect of gender and work culture on the relation between innovative climate and behavior is tested in the study. Design/methodology/approach Survey technique was used to collect data from 425 employees working in project departments at the executive, middle level and senior level management in the paint manufacturing industry of Pakistan. Multiple regression, as well as Preacher and Hayes (2004) tests, were applied to test the hypotheses. Findings The result of the data analysis showed that IWB acts as a mediator between IOC and project success (PS), thereby supporting the hypothesized model of innovation and PS. Work culture was supported as a moderator; however, no moderating effect of gender was validated by the results. Research limitations/implications The management must make sure that to maximize the rate of success of projects, innovative work climate within the organizations and departments be given due importance. In addition to this, personnel’s individual innovation capabilities must also be enhanced by taking steps toward improvement through training and development. Originality/value Though attention has been given to research in innovation in light of other related variables, its relation to PS remains yet to be studied. The effect of gender and work culture on innovation in Pakistani paint industry was long over-due which has been addressed by this study.
