In this paper, we design and implement a mobile game based on windows phone platform. Visual Studio and the Windows Mobile software development kit(SDK) and developer tool kits (DTK) make it possible to create software for the Windows Mobile platform in Visual C#. Also The XNA Framework is the set of .NET libraries that developers will code against to build games. XNA Framework support PC and XBOX and a ZUNE HD multiplex platform environment and 2D and 3D games provides the necessary functions to a development. XNA Framework is to make it easier to develop games because the codes which are succeeded creates with automatic, implements a game development relation resource and the game logic. The key idea of our game is that we use shooting and ranking system to raise fun.

Mobile devices are increasingly accepted as suitable media for multimedia-rich applications. Software firms have started promoting programming platforms and tools tailored to satisfy the requirements of mobile device users, developers, and resource constraints. This article reviews the main characteristics, relative merits, and shortcomings of the most popular development platform options - specifically, Java ME, .NET Compact Framework, Flash Lite, and Android. It evaluates and compares these options according to various quantitative and qualitative criteria. It aims to serve as a reference point and guide for developers and practitioners in choosing a mobile platform for development on information appliances.

For the small-scale and scattered fresh cucumber production in China, the result that production record-keeping and its transfer are inefficient have prevented the wide application of traceability systems in China. With the mobility and computability, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) provides a new way for agricultural information collection to solve the above problems. Thus a PDA-based Record-keeping and Decision-support System (PRDS) for traceability in cucumber production was developed on Windows Mobile platform invoking a Geographic Information System (GIS) control. For improving the decision making feasibility of PRDS, the fertilization recommendation model and pesticide usage early warning model were developed by using the Technical Specification of Balanced Fertilization by Soil Testing and the Guideline for Safety Application of Pesticides in China. The architecture of PRDS was provided. With Unified Modeling Language (UML), a requirement model including two types of users and 17 use cases was described, and a static class model was also designed, which consisted of table class, table operation class, algorithm class and interface class. Based on these models, the functions of system setup, map management, data management, production record-keeping and decision-support and query, etc., were implemented by adopting Hosting MapInfo MapX Mobile Controls on the .NET Compact Framework 2.0, and the data synchronization was realized by Remote Data Access (RDA). Two agricultural production enterprises were chosen as case study to evaluate the system by questionnaires. The results show that the efficiency of production record-keeping and decision-support is improved by the simple and friendly system.

This study designed and realized a new type of RFID middle-ware based on .NET Compact Framework platform using PXA255 embedded board and Windows CE as operating system. The proposed embedded RFID middle-ware system controls via LAN a number of RFID sensors using RS-232 as interface and was designed on the basis of components of each function necessary RFID middle-ware. Application module operating in the SOA environment analyzes the data received from the RFID sensors with the embedded RFID middle-ware and in turn performs appropriate business logic. Client module to be used by end users can use RFID information in database, by web method call of application.

Unique features of handheld devices, including their mobility, personalization and location-awareness engender new types of applications for mobile commerce, such as mobile advertising. Mobile marketing and advertising applications deliver promotional information to consumers based on their preferences and location. In this paper, we present SMMART, a context-aware, adaptive and personalized m-commerce application designed to deliver targeted promotions to the users of mobile devices about the products they like while guarding the users’ identity and protecting them from any unsolicited messages. Promotions distributed by SMMART are personalized by performing intelligent matching of the user’s shopping interests to current promotions available at a retail site. SMMART can adapt to changing preferences of its user by inconspicuously monitoring his or her shopping habits. We describe a fully functional prototype of SMMART built for Pocket PCs running Windows CE with .NET Compact Framework. This paper also presents a study demonstrating end-user usability and economic viability of SMMART.

The article describes some possibilities for developing mobile devices’ extents for system MES (Manufacture Execution Systems) Xfactory. A fundamental idea is based on .NET, .NET Compact framework and web services. Application is able to communicate with Xfactory in two directions: into the Xfactory – as a data source (from manufactory to planning) or from Xfactory – as a consumer (data about manufacture's steps, etc.). As a mobile’s device is used PDA with WiFi net (802.11b).

Aiming at addressing difficulties in the development of embedded system, this paper proposes a new method. Based on the object-oriented concepts and by reference to the touching operating mode of the smart phones or tablet PCs, we achieved a new set of smart touching UI controls and device driver classes library in C# with the .NET Compact Framework environment. This method improves the programming efficiency of embedded system, greatly reducing the workload of programmers. Using this method, we have successfully developed a data acquisition and monitoring system based on the InsLink's iPC2016, the system is running for environmental monitoring.

Many standard baby-tests (paper and pencil versions) are used in clinics to evaluate by separate major domains in child neurodevelopment (ND) such as: 1) speech and language, 2) motor and 3) sensory (visual and hearing). Our aim was to design an automated easy to apply instrument that integrates in one test important milestones in all these domains. The test to assess pediatric neurodevelopment (NPED in Spanish) was implemented as software upon a mobile device personal digital assistant (PDA). It allows a rapid standardized (age adjusted) evaluation of language and psycho motor development and includes original hearing and visual acuity tests. The NPED system detects neurodevelopmental deviations in these areas providing a final PASS/FAIL result. The software was implemented, using the integrated development environment Visual Studio 2008, Visual C# programming language, and the .Net Compact Framework. Test results are stored in a PDA database and can be exported to a desktop PC for further analysis. Also, the test items and materials can be easily configured to the PDA features and can be adapted to different cultural environments (language items). Although the system as all screening tools was designed to identify ND disorders that should be referred for diagnosis, it gives also useful information for management and intervention of children with slight ND problems. Thus it could be implemented as hand- held automated screening tool at primary care health services to be used by volunteers and/or other personnel with minimal training.

This month we’re embedding ourselves inside Microsoft’s .NET Compact Framework (CF), billed by Microsoft as the perfect platform to create software applications that target mobile devices. That’s accurate—and it’s not.

Since mobile devices were conceived and commercialized, their market has grown exponentially, so as its problems related to secure data residing in them. Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) is an approach to public key cryptography (PCK) based on the algebraic structure of elliptic curves over finite fields. It represents the most suitable choice for implementing cryptography in mobile devices since it uses smaller key sizes compared with others traditional public key cryptosystems without decreasing the security level. In this work we present the design of software modules for ECC over .Net Compact Framework (.Net CF) 3.5 well suited for mobile and embedded devices with Windows CE as operating system. The main cores are modules for finite field arithmetic and elliptic curve cryptographic schemes defined over the prime field Z p . These modules are not available neither in the programming language nor the .Net CF. We evaluated the performance of our implementations using the Personal Digital Assistant devices IPAQ 116 and Handheld HP 216, using elliptic curves over the prime field Z p with p=192, 224 and 256, which are key sizes currently recommended by NIST. Our results show that ECC could be implemented in .Net CF with a performance that should be tolerated by most of the users with a high degree of security.

Based on embedded techniques, used Widows Mobile SDK, .Net Compact Framework which designed by Microsoft, designed a field geology multimedia data acquisition system running on smart mobile phone, it can be used on acquisition field data during geological prospecting. And the writer designed work flow of field geology Multimedia data acquisition system, combined with designed software system, realized seamless connection and management between geology multimedia data collected by hand-held device and multi geological database. Smart mobile phone integrated all functions of ex-geology new five devices-PDA, GPS, recorder pen, digital camera and digital video.

The Controlled Randomness Protocol (CRP) for management of cryptographic keys is a method to improve the security level of secure communication protocols. We assess the performance of the CRP when implemented on embedded systems running the .NET Compact Framework. We present our findings from two different platforms: one smartphone running .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and one smartphone running .NET Compact Framework 4.0. Our assessment verifies that when implemented in the .NET Compact Framework, the controlled randomness protocol imposes a configurable and tolerable amount of overhead computation while it offers a significant security improvement compared to a conventional implementation of a key management protocol.

Human life is divided into day periods as a main periods which consist of a day and night phase. Most of humans need to sleep a eight hours in a minimum to have their body and all the body function ready in day phase of a day. The second very important thing (instead of 8 hour sleep) is a phase of sleep in which a human is wake up. Waking up of a human in deep sleep phase lead to a very “unhappy” morning and not so nice spend of day. We are trying to develop algorithms to detect mild sleep stages which are the most suitable to human wake up. Actually we use microphone input to record and process sound near the monitored user. All the knowledge is implemented to mobile phone (windows mobile based device) as an intelligent alarm application. Whole application is designed as multithread Real-Time application based on. NET Compact Framework platform in C# language. Filtration and detection algorithms used special Math library Math. NET to process a recorded sound signal. This paper consists of several chapters which describes design, implementation and testing phases of this mobile application development. Actual testing results shows that our developed application detect correctly more than 70 % of mild sleep stages of all tested persons.

Smart phone that can support mobile computing environment has been popular recently. A new robot application using smart phone is also interesting and feasible research topic at this moment in accordance with a fast growth of mobile internet environment. In this study, we propose a remote control method of a mobile robot using a smart phone with Windows Mobile. We also developed the proposed method using Microsoft’s .Net Compact Framework and Bluetooth data communication to support various OS Platforms from Windows to CE kernel based Embedded OS. In experiment, we evaluated the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed method by showing a remote control of a mobile robot using G-Sensor in a smart phone, a line tracing robot application and its performance evaluation.

The idea described in this paper deals with a connection of embedded sensors in current smart mobile devices and a game application for mobile devices which results in increased movement of player of these games. Active movement of players was found as one of possible solution how to reduce the weight of playes (users) because of well known global problem of the world is increasing obesity caused by the addiction on the PC games at the young people. This project connects pleasant with useful, respectively playing of the game with physical effort. By the help of the motion sensor (accelerometer) is possible to handle by simple games to whose operating is needed physical impulsion of the player. After it would be possible to take up on this project by the beat measurement of the player in order to check on effectivity of the suggested system. Software was developed in managed code using C# language and .NET Compact Framework platform. Some issues related to real development are also discussed in the rest of paper.

The problem we would like to discuss and solve is based on a remote controlling of created packages containing predefined components with a predefined numbers of these components. In principle the problem acts as a check out control problem. By the help of mobile device with integrated bar code scanner an application for such mobile device can be developed as a remote client of server, which contains a database with predefined properties, numbers of packages, etc. A web services and mobile client application was created using a Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.

The paper deal with a problem of a data collecting and visualization of several biomedical signals from patients by mobile embedded monitoring stations. Measurement devices were used in real tests. Due to a problem of real time processing a 12 channels ECG from ECG device by Bluetooth to mobile stations, packet parsing as the one problem part of data processing chain, is presented and solved by two possible solutions. Mobile embedded monitoring stations are based on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. The whole system is based on the architecture of .NET Framework, .NET Compact Framework, .NET Micro Framework and Microsoft SQL Server.

A huge number of components for development tool of Microsoft Visual Studio is possible to find on internet. They are however only extensive, or graphically modified standard components that belongs to standard Visual Studio. Components development for industrial using is made by specialized firms. Such components are considerably price expensive. Aim of this project is to form at least small parts of components for HMI (Human Machine interface) on a basis of PDA with Windows Mobile with a usage of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, eventually of other needed Open Source libraries.

Today, mobile phones have approached people's life and work. In addition to the basic call function, they also integrate lots of other usefull features. Mobile electronic dictionary, being one of the funtions, will bring the users more convenience and save more spaces to improve the efficiency of work. The software adopts the environment of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and the high-level development of Visual C#, which is based on the .NET Compact Framework (that is, .NET framework streanline the set). The software is in support of Windows Mobile 5.0, bilingual dictionaries, fuzzy query and the dynamic display of the query result. When using this software, users can query words, edit entries, add new words as well as delete words in a small dictionary program. What's more, searching the English meaning of Chinese words in a small Chinese-English dictionary is available. If anybody doesn't understand the use of the software, he/she can get help from the software itself.

In paper we deals with a problem of visualization of measured ECG signal on mobile devices in Real Time as well as with a solution how to solve a problem of unsuccessful data processing on desktop or server. The realized system deals with an ECG sensor connected to mobile equipment, such as PDA/Embedded, based on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. The whole system is based on the architecture of .NET Framework, .NET Compact Framework, and Microsoft SQL Server. Visualization possibilities of ECG data are also discussed as the WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) solution. The project was successfully tested in real environment in cryogenic room (-136 O C).

The paper presents a problem of Real Time processing of ECG signal from patients by mobile embedded monitoring stations. Two ECG measurement devices were used in real tests. A two ECG channel bipolar ECG CorBelt and a 12 channels ECG device BlueECG. Both devices are products from CorScience Company. Due to a problem of processing a 12 channels ECG from ECG device by Bluetooth to mobile stations, the problem of packet parsing was discussed and two possible solutions were focused on. Another important part in biomedical data processing is visualization. A Windows Presentation Foundation solution was presented and tested. Mobile devices are now used not only for communication but also as working units. As more sensitive information is stored on and transmitted through these devices, security is becoming a growing concern. This is especially true for SMS messages which do not integrate any security mechanism. This is why we propose a simple-to-use but cryptographically strong API for message encryption and authentication that was designed with the limited memory and processing power of a mobile device in mind; and a protocol that will ensure their confidentiality and integrity. This strategy is embodied in the cryptography framework called Linca and the SMS security protocol called SMSSec. The framework and protocol are tested through the design and implementation of an SMS banking application called SecureBanking. The application was written for the .NET Compact Framework (.NET for mobile devices) and was based on a previous version done for Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME). Finally, a performance analysis is presented to show that the encryption time on the mobile device is negligible compared to the duration of the transmission.

A mobile GIS for field data collection is a system which can facilitate the entire process from indoor preparation, data collection, to data processing. It is a combination of positioning and wireless communication technologies. The paper aims to demonstrate how to design and implement such a mobile GIS. Data of the system consist of three parts: background reference layer, with which spatial reference can be customized, navigation data layer for searching point of interests (POI) and route planning, and field data. Functions of this system include spatial data operation module, navigation module, data collection module, and communication module. .NET Compact Framework is employed to develop the system. Key technologies and skills of application developing are introduced. Additionally, more adjuvant functions are implemented, like path planning, trajectory collection, image collection, and location data sharing.

Our project deal with the system development of personal sources in area of home care agencies. System consists of the three main parts - PC application, mobile application and database server. All these parts are built on Microsoft .NET solution namely on performances .NET Framework 3.5 and MS SQL server 2008, .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and MS SQL server 3.5 Compact Edition. System works offline, whereas synchronization mobile arrangement with data in database is made only in agency by the help of technology USB, Bluetooth or WiFi. However the system has also the possibility to work in the online mode, allows the interviewing on database by the use of the web services. Software layer synchronization administration data is based on technologies ADO .NET and Linq. System will further develop and will base for advancement biomedical science research framework.

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) researchers in collaboration with Tyndall National Institute, both based in Cork, a city in the southern coast of Ireland, have developed a container management and monitoring system using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), with a support of Cork Port and local industry. The system is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing container management schemes (and with staff procedures) at the port, efficiently, and at low cost, extending its capabilities through remote querying, localization and security. To achieve its goals, the system exploits the capabilities of wireless sensor nodes, used as container ‘tags’, which form a wireless, ad-hoc network throughout the container yard. This chapter will briefly describe the project rationale and the technology development process, which includes hardware solutions built by Tyndall — a dedicated sensor node platform composed from that Institute’s wireless sensor toolkit. It will also discuss the software and networking solutions created and implemented through CIT’s research. This includes specialized graphical user interfaces on portable devices (e.g. a solution was implemented for PDAs, based upon the .NET Compact Framework) and applications for WSN motes, running the TinyOS operating system, to provide full system functionality and multi-hopping communication. The chapter will also describe the work done to overcome the primary project challenges, including the issue of the radio shielding effects of the containers. The final system demonstrates multi-hopping and ad-hoc routing techniques that could exploit the containers, by stack and row, to forward information from one to the next and, in this way, enabling intelligent, reliable communication from anywhere in the port to the management system user.

This paper conveys some of the experiences with using commercial off-the-shel (COTS) products as clients to Bluetooth enabled devices, which have no user interface of their own, but relies on the COTS products for user interaction. The COTS devices used include several different vendors' models of the microsoft Pocket PC platform (also known as windows mobile professional or classic) running .NET compact framework, as well as a number of different models of Java enabled cell phones from nokia, siemens and sony-ericsson. The specific case study is with the Taxmaster4 Windows mobile product used with BMW automobiles as a driving log application. The paper concludes that many usability problems exist when using COTS products. These may to some extend be overcome by pragmatic design decisions, but it is necessary that the COTS products hardware platform and application programming interfaces should become better suited to support distributed user interfaces than is the case today. This includes better support for basic user interface elements as well as supporting Bluetooth and other wireless technologies more reliably. These issues should be addressed by the vendors and manufactures of these platforms, not the application programmers.

The application described in this paper consist in an embedded system based on a cost effective thin-client PC (the e-Box) and running a software developed in Windows CE environment, using .NET compact framework and C# as programming language.External hardware used with e-Box is:graphic tabletas pointing device, a VGA to TV converter for using a standard TV set as display, an USB memory stick and speakers. The application is developed for Romanian language but there is also provided necessary building blocks and interfaces to help other developers extend the platform for their own language and culture.

The problem of supporting the secure execution of potentially malicious third-party applications has received a considerable amount of attention in the past decade. In this paper we describe a security architecture for mobile devices that supports the flexible integration of a variety of advanced technologies for such secure execution of applications, including run-time monitoring, static verification and proof-carrying code. The architecture also supports the execution of legacy applications that have not been developed to take advantage of our architecture, though it can provide better performance and additional services for applications that are architecture-aware. The proposed architecture has been implemented on a Windows Mobile device with the .NET Compact Framework. Today is the age of mobile computing, the concept of virtual offices have been developed a large, therefore systems are being developed by the designers and developers which provide not only mobile but also remote access to different resources. For this purpose the tools for developing such application are very important. There are different development kits available for the developers. .NET Compact Framework is one of them. Mobile applications have a very large scope in future world and only those programming tool will survive which provides user both hardware support and software excellencies.

Software development for mobile devices is relative new and has its own challenges, especially when developing a single application that will run on either a PDA or a notebook PC. This work describes the development of a sales system for use by a salesperson in the field. Windows-based devices and Microsoft development tools were used to implement the application for the .NET Framework for the notebook PC and the .NET Compact Framework for the PDA. (One might run into a totally different set of issues attempting to do this with Java and J2ME). Developing a common code base for classes was relative easy, but was difficult for the user interface. Issues faced and lessons learned during the application development are outlined in this work. The application software architecture, hardware, database, and connectivity are also described.

This tutorial presents an overview of the Microsoft .NET platform. Both the .NET Framework and .NET Compact Framework are discussed, as well as several Document Object Models used to access XML and Microsoft Office files. The family of Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) under Visual Studio 2005 is discussed as well as the software-intensive systems engineering mindset behind the development of Microsoft .NET and its IDEs. A review of the "Systems Engineering Resource Guide for Educators and Practitioners" (to be handed out to the attendees) concludes this tutorial.

This chapter highlights the importance of industry-supported standards when trying to understand and implement embedded system designs and concepts. The programming language, networking, and digital television (DTV) examples are discussed in this chapter to demonstrate how standards can define major elements within an embedded architecture. The programming language example provides an illustration of general-purpose standards that can be implemented in a wide variety of embedded devices. These examples specifically include Java, showing how a Java virtual machine (JVM) is needed at the application, system, or hardware layer, and the .NET Compact Framework, for languages such as C# and Visual Basic, which demonstrate a programming language element that must be integrated into the systems software layer. Networking provides an example of standards that can be general purpose, specific to a family of devices, or specific to an application. In the case of networking, both the embedded systems and the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) models are referenced to demonstrate where certain networking protocols fit into an embedded architecture. Finally, the digital TV/set-top box (STB) example illustrates how one device implements several standards that define embedded components in all layers.

As Web service technology evolves, the idea of context-aware services gains more interest. An idea is that different sets of services will dynamically drop into the mobile users' devices depending on their contexts. To do this effectively requires location modelling and representation as well as spontaneity in downloading and executing the service interface on a mobile device. This paper introduces the concept and an implementation of hanging services that supports proactive and ad hoc context-aware services in mobile environments. This system works on top of an 802.11b wireless network. The prototype implementation is done using Web services and highly compact mobile code applications using Microsoft .NET compact framework.

The compact, mobile device, such as the PocketPC, is often regarded as little more than a handy, smaller "portal" by which to access information kept on larger back-end machines such as exchange servers and WWW servers. However, the true value of the device may ultimately result from more sophisticated approaches by which the device can fully recognize and change its behavior based on its context, such as location, remaining battery life, available networking, and user preferences. We present "UVa Bus.NET", a testbed at the University of Virginia for developing and evaluating general, context-aware, mobile solutions. We use .NET, .NET Compact Framework, GPS-enabled devices, and wireless networking inside buildings to notify students and professors of impending appointments and class meetings, give directions to their next appointment, and even direct them to the real-time location of the most appropriate bus to catch. The longer-term goals of UVa Bus.NET are also presented: to provide a more predictable experience to mobile device users by hiding and otherwise managing resource limitations.

This is the final report for the Ad Hoc Human Interaction Nets project. All tasks described in our original proposal have been completed: Hybrid-Hierarchical Micro-Databases, Query Optimization, and XML for Embedded Systems. After meeting with the program manager, Tom Armour, in Washington, DC, we were able to get a better perspective on the ad hoc nature of the solicitation. Armed with this perspective, we were able to complete two substantial prototypes to address the four tasks as originally written that works with Pocket PC and Palm OS devices. We were able to evaluate the viability of the Sharp Zaurus platform as well but ultimately decided to limit our focus to Palm OS and Pocket PC devices, which appear to have the greatest market interest and viability at the time of writing. Acquiring the hardware enabled us to make substantial progress on the ad hoc networking issues. In our networking prototype, which is based on the Pocket PC platform, we were able to take advantage of the emerging. Net compact framework and use it to build a distributed services and database framework. In this report, we will describe the two concept prototypes that were developed to demonstrate the feasibility of ad hoc human interaction networks and then proceed with a brief discussion of each task as written in the original proposal.

This paper presents our experiences in porting selected parts of the .NET Compact Framework to Symbian smartphones. Our port includes support for basic services such as threading and file access, low-level networking modules as well as Web Services. We also present a portable .NET GUI for the Symbian platform. The paper shows how the programming models of .NET can be efficiently mapped to the runtime structures provided by operating systems for resource-constrained devices such as the Symbian OS. In a detailed analysis, we compare the performance of our port to that of Java and native code.

Present-day museums are not mere passive institutions for the preservation of a society's cultural heritage. They have become instead learning environments, research centres and even tourist attractions. The paper introduces the notion of a hybrid museum (HM) in which wireless personal digital devices (PDAs) are used to tailor digital contents to the visitor to enrich both the learning and entertainment experience. The paper describes a fully functional hybrid museum infrastructure (MoMo) implemented with the.NET compact framework running on the PocketPC platform. Several research challenges that had to be faced during the implementation of the system such as the exploration of large sets of information on PDAs are also presented; and the customisation and personalisation of the displayed contents using a modified partial prediction matching algorithm are also discussed.

The following paper describes a distributed application for collecting data from mobile devices. The solution is collecting data through mobile device PDA and then sending them to central server accumulating and processing data. An example of such a system is an application that collects data from GPS receivers located in cars. The authors based their solution on that type of a system. The programs were written with the use of the C# language and .NET Framework platform version 1.1 as well as the mobile version NET Compact Framework 1.0. The result of the presented work is an advanced system that fulfils commercial standards
