Abstract

International audience; This paper attempts to establish a good base for weight-reduction technique of microwave devices using 3D printing techniques. Experimental studies to minimize the weight of radiofrequency waveguides printed using additive manufacturing techniques are presented. Two types of Kuband rectangular waveguides (perforated and full-metal) have been printed using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) process. The insertion losses increased by ~1.2 dB/m after applying 1 mm grids which reduces the weight of Ku-band rectangular waveguide by ~17.5%. Comparison between these measurements and those of a waveguide manufactured by conventional method was used to determine process loss. The insertion losses of full-metal waveguide manufactured using DMLS process increase by ~0.7 dB/m compared to the conventional one. Finally, RF measurements of waveguides manufactured using DMLS process show a good agreement with the simulation results.

Abstract

4 pages; International audience; This paper deals with a rigorous study of the impact by perpendicular metal grids on the characteristics of microstrip and coplanar coupled transmission lines. An electromagnetic analysis shows the variations of the propagation parameters in common and differential modes for each type of lines, in the presence of a metal grid. As transmission zeroes are liable to occur at certain frequencies, in particular in the common mode, we investigated the part played by the most influential grid parameters on these disturbances.

Abstract

In this article, a new approach to the propagation channel in the Sub-THz frequency range is adopted using silicon-based technologies. This channel enables the feasibility of a Wireless-Interconnects-Network-On-Chip (WiNoC) to be implemented in a multiprocessor system-on-chip (MPSoC). However, it is functional only after limiting the silicon substrate problems validated by measurement on patch antennas manufactured in V band (40-80 GHz). The new approach consists of adding an absorbing material around the substrate. This design provides flat transmission levels over large bandwidths. Consequently, an increase in the frequency of operation to the Sub-THz range and the use of miniature vertical monopole antennas became possible. The isolation of the silicon from any interference is a major contribution in this paper that permits us to use the high resistivity silicon as a propagation medium. Based on this, a scenario of 16 antennas is subsequently analyzed as a realistic many-core network implementation.
