Technological advances in tea production are critical to meet global demands for tea consumption. To illuminate differences in the scientific and commercial relevance of research programs between major tea-related research organizations around the world, we conducted a bibliometric analysis comparing the scientific outputs, including peer-reviewed publications and patents, of six major research organizations published between January 01, 2008 and July 11, 2020. For this competitive ranking analysis, we examined a number of papers, research topics, academic influence, capacity for development, capacity for collaboration, and capacity for technological innovation. Among the six research organizations, Anhui Agricultural University (in China) had the most publications, while the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Tea Research Institute showed a higher capacity for development. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (in India) and the University of Shizuoka (Japan) both showed high academic influence, while the University of Shizuoka, Tea Research Association Tocklai and National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (Japan) showed a high capacity for collaboration. The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Tea Research Institute applied for the most patents, while the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research applied for the most international patents.

Background:. Prenatal evaluation of fetal lung maturity (FLM) is a challenge, and an effective non-invasive method for prenatal assessment of FLM is needed. The study aimed to establish a normal fetal lung gestational age (GA) grading model based on deep learning (DL) algorithms, validate the effectiveness of the model, and explore the potential value of DL algorithms in assessing FLM. Methods:. A total of 7013 ultrasound images obtained from 1023 normal pregnancies between 20 and 41 + 6 weeks were analyzed in this study. There were no pregnancy-related complications that affected fetal lung development, and all infants were born without neonatal respiratory diseases. The images were divided into three classes based on the gestational week: class I: 20 to 29 + 6 weeks, class II: 30 to 36 + 6 weeks, and class III: 37 to 41 + 6 weeks. There were 3323, 2142, and 1548 images in each class, respectively. First, we performed a pre-processing algorithm to remove irrelevant information from each image. Then, a convolutional neural network was designed to identify different categories of fetal lung ultrasound images. Finally, we used ten-fold cross-validation to validate the performance of our model. This new machine learning algorithm automatically extracted and classified lung ultrasound image information related to GA. This was used to establish a grading model. The performance of the grading model was assessed using accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristic curves. Results:. A normal fetal lung GA grading model was established and validated. The sensitivity of each class in the independent test set was 91.7%, 69.8%, and 86.4%, respectively. The specificity of each class in the independent test set was 76.8%, 90.0%, and 83.1%, respectively. The total accuracy was 83.8%. The area under the curve (AUC) of each class was 0.982, 0.907, and 0.960, respectively. The micro-average AUC was 0.957, and the macro-average AUC was 0.949. Conclusions:. The normal fetal lung GA grading model could accurately identify ultrasound images of the fetal lung at different GAs, which can be used to identify cases of abnormal lung development due to gestational diseases and evaluate lung maturity after antenatal corticosteroid therapy. The results indicate that DL algorithms can be used as a non-invasive method to predict FLM.

As one fundamental property of light, polarization has a huge impact in quantum optics and optoelectronics through light-matter interactions. However, the bright and near-unity polarized light emissions in the visible range by solid crystalline materials are scantly realized. Here, we report well-defined quasi two-dimensional (2D) hybrid crystals based on the linear alignment of Cu2I2-dimer/bidentate ligand hybrid clusters for achieving bright and near-unity linearly polarized light emissions. Using first-principle calculations, we demonstrate that the superaligned transition dipole moments are the key for the observed excellent polarized light emissions. To further enhance the photoluminescence (PL) polarization degree, we fabricate Cu2I2-dimer-based hybrid nanobelts, which display high PL quantum yield (up to 64%) and ultrahigh PL polarization degree (∼0.99). Our reported copper iodine cluster-based luminescent hybrid materials for bright and highly polarized light emissions will have great potential for future quantum optics applications.

Background:. Fetal weight is an important parameter to ensure maternal and child safety. The purpose of this study was to use three-dimensional (3D) limb volume ultrasound combined with fetal abdominal circumference (AC) measurement to establish a model to predict fetal weight and evaluate its efficiency. Methods:. A total of 211 participants with single pregnancy (28–42 weeks) were selected between September 2017 and December 2018 in the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Capital Medical University. The upper arm (AVol)/thigh volume (TVol) of fetuses was measured by the 3D limb volume technique. Fetal AC was measured by two-dimensional ultrasound. Nine cases were excluded due to incomplete information or the interval between examination and delivery >7 days. The enrolled 202 participants were divided into a model group (134 cases, 70%) and a verification group (68 cases, 30%) by mechanical sampling method. The linear relationship between limb volume and fetal weight was evaluated using Pearson Chi-squared test. The prediction model formula was established by multivariate regression with data from the model group. Accuracy of the model formula was evaluated with verification group data and compared with traditional formulas (Hadlock, Lee2009, and INTERGROWTH-21st) by paired t-test and residual analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curves were generated to predict macrosomia. Results:. AC, AVol, and TVol were linearly related to fetal weight. Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.866, 0.862, and 0.910, respectively. The prediction model based on AVol/TVol and AC was established as follows: Y = −481.965 + 12.194TVol + 15.358AVol + 67.998AC, R2adj = 0.868. The scatter plot showed that when birth weight fluctuated by 5% (i.e., 95% to 105%), the difference between the predicted fetal weight by the model and the actual weight was small. A paired t-test showed that there was no significant difference between the predicted fetal weight and the actual birth weight (t = −1.015, P = 0.314). Moreover, the residual analysis showed that the model formula's prediction efficiency was better than the traditional formulas with a mean residual of 35,360.170. The combined model of AVol/TVol and AC was superior to the Lee2009 and INTERGROWTH-21st formulas in the diagnosis of macrosomia. Its predictive sensitivity and specificity were 87.5% and 91.7%, respectively. Conclusion:. Fetal weight prediction model established by semi-automatic 3D limb volume combined with AC is of high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The prediction model formula shows higher predictive efficiency, especially for the diagnosis of macrosomia. Trial Registration:. The fast development of terahertz technologies demands high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials to create safe electromagnetic environments. Despite tremendous breakthroughs in achieving superb shielding efficiency (SE), conventional shielding materials have high reflectivity and cannot be re-edited or recycled once formed, resulting in detrimental secondary electromagnetic pollution and poor adaptability. Herein, a hydrogel-type shielding material incorporating MXene and poly(acrylic acid) is fabricated through a biomineralization-inspired assembly route. The composite hydrogel exhibits excellent stretchability and recyclability, favorable shape adaptability and adhesiveness, and fast self-healing capability, demonstrating great application flexibility and reliability. More interestingly, the shielding performance of the hydrogel shows absorption-dominated feature due to the combination of the porous structure, moderate conductivity, and internal water-rich environment. High EMI SE of 45.3 dB and broad effective absorption bandwidth (0.2-2.0 THz) with excellent refection loss of 23.2 dB can be simultaneously achieved in an extremely thin hydrogel (0.13 mm). Furthermore, such hydrogel demonstrates sensitive deformation responses and can be used as an on-skin sensor. This work provides not only an alternative strategy for designing next-generation EMI shielding material but also a highly efficient and convenient method for fabricating MXene composite on macroscopic scales.

© 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved., Background: Hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis is a rare, inherited, progressive disease caused by mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene. We assessed the safety and efficacy of long-term treatment with patisiran, an RNA interference therapeutic that inhibits TTR production, in patients with hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis with polyneuropathy. Methods: This multicentre, open-label extension (OLE) trial enrolled patients at 43 hospitals or clinical centres in 19 countries as of Sept 24, 2018. Patients were eligible if they had completed the phase 3 APOLLO or phase 2 OLE parent studies and tolerated the study drug. Eligible patients from APOLLO (patisiran and placebo groups) and the phase 2 OLE (patisiran group) studies enrolled in this global OLE trial and received patisiran 0·3 mg/kg by intravenous infusion every 3 weeks with plans to continue to do so for up to 5 years. Efficacy assessments included measures of polyneuropathy (modified Neuropathy Impairment Score +7 [mNIS+7]), quality of life, autonomic symptoms, nutritional status, disability, ambulation status, motor function, and cardiac stress, with analysis by study groups (APOLLO-placebo, APOLLO-patisiran, phase 2 OLE patisiran) based on allocation in the parent trial. The global OLE is ongoing with no new enrolment, and current findings are based on the interim analysis of the patients who had completed 12-month efficacy assessments as of the data cutoff. Safety analyses included all patients who received one or more dose of patisiran up to the data cutoff. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02510261. Findings: Between July 13, 2015, and Aug 21, 2017, of 212 eligible patients, 211 were enrolled: 137 patients from the APOLLO-patisiran group, 49 from the APOLLO-placebo group, and 25 from the phase 2 OLE patisiran group. At the data cutoff on Sept 24, 2018, 126 (92%) of 137 patients from the APOLLO-patisiran group, 38 (78%) of 49 from the APOLLO-placebo group, and 25 (100%) of 25 from the phase 2 OLE patisiran group had completed 12-month assessments. At 12 months, improvements in mNIS+7 with patisiran were sustained from parent study baseline with treatment in the global OLE (APOLLO-patisiran mean change -4·0, 95 % CI -7·7 to -0·3; phase 2 OLE patisiran -4·7, -11·9 to 2·4). Mean mNIS+7 score improved from global OLE enrolment in the APOLLO-placebo group (mean change from global OLE enrolment -1·4, 95% CI -6·2 to 3·5). Overall, 204 (97%) of 211 patients reported adverse events, 82 (39%) reported serious adverse events, and there were 23 (11%) deaths. Serious adverse events were more frequent in the APOLLO-placebo group (28 [57%] of 49) than in the APOLLO-patisiran (48 [35%] of 137) or phase 2 OLE patisiran (six [24%] of 25) groups. The most common treatment-related adverse event was mild or moderate infusion-related reactions. The frequency of deaths in the global OLE was higher in the APOLLO-placebo group (13 [27%] of 49), who had a higher disease burden than the APOLLO-patisiran (ten [7%] of 137) and phase 2 OLE patisiran (0 of 25) groups. Interpretation: In this interim 12-month analysis of the ongoing global OLE study, patisiran appeared to maintain efficacy with an acceptable safety profile in patients with hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis with polyneuropathy. Continued long-term follow-up will be important for the overall assessment of safety and efficacy with patisiran.

Treatments enhancing angiogenesis for chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) are still in the research stage. Although encephalomyosynangiosis (EMS) is a common indirect anastomosis for the treatment of CCH, the effectiveness to promote angiogenesis is not satisfactory. Vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) is a cytokine found to specifically act directly on vascular endothelial cells, promote neovascularization, and enhance capillary permeability. However, the short half life and unstable property of VEGF underlies the need to explore available delivery system. In this study, poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) was used to prepare VEGF controlled-release microspheres. In vitro and in vivo analysis of release kinetics showed that the microspheres could release VEGF continuously within 30 days. Then, modified chronic cerebral hypoperfusion rat model was established by ligation of bilateral internal carotid artery and one vertebral artery. At 14 days after ischemia, the EMS and the VEGF microspheres injection were performed. At 30 days after the injection, the result of Morris water maze displayed that combinating VEGF microspheres and EMS significantly ameliorated cognitive deficit after ischemia. We observed that combinating VEGF microspheres and EMS could further significantly increase cerebral blood flow. We speculated that this enhancement of cerebral blood flow was attributed to more angiogenesis induced by combination of VEGF microspheres and EMS, which verified by more collateral circulation with cerebral angiography and higher expression of CD31 or α-SMA. Our study demonstrated that combinating VEGF-PLGA controlled-release microspheres could significantly promote angiogenesis in EMS-based CCH rats model, providing new ideas for clinical treatment of CCH.

All-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite colloidal nanocrystals are attractive for next-generation light-emitting diodes because of their high color purity, but the nonradiative Auger recombination in perovskite nanocrystal film limits the efficiency and brightness of the fabricated devices. Here, we introduce a surface-engineering process to exchange the original long-chain oleic acid/oleylamine ligands by the cerium-tributylphosphine oxide hybrid ligands to suppress nonradiative Auger recombination in CsPbBr3 NC film for bright and low-efficiency roll-off light-emitting diodes. Using ultrafast transient absorption and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, we demonstrate that the hybrid ligand passivation can efficiently remove surface trap states to enhance radiative recombination and homogenize the exciton concentration to suppress nonradiative Auger recombination in the CsPbBr3 nanocrystal thin film. Consequently, we fabricate a light-emitting diode with efficient charge injection into the CsPbBr3 nanocrystal emitting layer, achieving a pronounced improvement of electroluminescence with an external quantum efficiency from 5.5% to 9.1%. More importantly, the efficiency roll-off characteristics of high-brightness light-emitting diodes is effectively mitigated. Our reported hybrid ligand passivation suppressed Auger recombination strategy shows a great potential for fabricating high-brightness cesium lead halide perovskite light-emitting diodes.

BACKGROUND Oral appliance (OA) treatment for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has attracted more and more attention due to its low price, comfort, portable and non-invasion. This study aimed to investigate the clinical effectiveness of adjustable oral appliance on older adult patients with OSAS. METHODS Thirty older adult patients diagnosed with OSAS were chosen as the study participants and received an adjustable OA for 6 months. Then, the patients were subjected to a polysomnographic examination, Berlin Questionnaire (BQ) scale questionnaire, and cone beam computer tomography (CBCT) analytical measurement to evaluate their symptom improvement and the morphologic changes of the upper airway. RESULTS After treatment with adjustable oral appliance for six months, the results showed that there was an improvement of different degrees in the subjective symptoms. Highly luminescent inks are desirable for various applications such as decorative coating, art painting, and anticounterfeiting, to name a few. However, present inks display low photoluminescent efficiency requiring a strong excitation light to make them glow. Here, we report a highly luminescent ink based on the copper-iodide/1-Propyl-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-1-ium (Cu4I6(pr-ted)2) hybrid cluster with a quantum efficiency exceeding 98%. Under the interaction between the Cu4I6(pr-ted)2 hybrid cluster and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the highly luminescent Cu4I6(pr-ted)2/PVP ink can be facilely prepared via the one-pot solution synthesis. The obtained ink exhibits strong green light emission that originates from the efficient phosphorescence of Cu4I6(pr-ted)2 nanocrystals. Attractively, the ink displays high conversion efficiency for the ultraviolet light to bright green light emission due to its wide Stokes shift, implying great potential for anticounterfeiting and luminescent solar concentrator coating.

Background Microwave ablation (MWA) is a popular therapy for liver malignant tumor in recent years. Few studies have been conducted on its use in the treatment of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE). The study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MWA in the treatment of HAE. Methods This study analyzed the data of 45 patients (mean age, 38 ± 2 years; 24 males) diagnosed with HAE and underwent MWA treatment between June 2014 to December 2019. The patients after MWA were examined by CT or MRI [follow-up: 32 months (IQR 23–48.5)] to determine whether the lesions were relapsed and to evaluate the therapeutic effect of MWA. The safety of MWA was evaluated by monitoring postoperative complications. Clinical data, such as patient demographics, imaging features of the lesions, relevant findings of laboratory tests before and after ablation, and information related to ablation, were collected and analyzed. Paired-sample t tests and paired-sample Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to compare relevant laboratory indicators before and after MWA. Results MWA was applied to 57 HAE lesions in 45 patients. The median size of lesions was 3.42 cm (IQR2.85–4.41). The rate of complete ablation was 100% (57/57). The median follow-up time was 32 months (IQR 23–48.5). The recurrence rate was 13% (6/45), and the median time of recurrence was 22 months. The rate of minor complications was 11.1% (5/45), and there were no major complications and deaths. Compared to preoperative, ALB, RBC, HBG, and PLT were decreased (p p p > 0.05). Conclusions MWA might be a safe and effective way to cure HAE. Meanwhile, it provides a new option and a new way of thinking about treatment for patients with HAE.

Background This study aims to validate the diagnostic accuracy of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) the Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model in the preoperative diagnosis of adnexal masses in the hands of nonexpert ultrasonographers in a gynaecological oncology centre in China. Methods This was a single oncology centre, retrospective diagnostic accuracy study of 620 patients. All patients underwent surgery, and the histopathological diagnosis was used as a reference standard. The masses were divided into five types according to the ADNEX model: benign ovarian tumours, borderline ovarian tumours (BOTs), stage I ovarian cancer (OC), stage II-IV OC and ovarian metastasis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the ability of the ADNEX model to classify tumours into different histological types with and without cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) results. Results Of the 620 women, 402 (64.8%) had a benign ovarian tumour and 218 (35.2%) had a malignant ovarian tumour, including 86 (13.9%) with BOT, 75 (12.1%) with stage I OC, 53 (8.5%) with stage II-IV OC and 4 (0.6%) with ovarian metastasis. The AUC of the model to differentiate benign and malignant adnexal masses was 0.97 (95% CI, 0.96–0.98). Performance was excellent for the discrimination between benign and stage II-IV OC and between benign and ovarian metastasis, with AUCs of 0.99 (95% CI, 0.99–1.00) and 0.99 (95% CI, 0.98–1.00), respectively. The model was less effective at distinguishing between BOT and stage I OC and between BOT and ovarian metastasis, with AUCs of 0.54 (95% CI, 0.45–0.64) and 0.66 (95% CI, 0.56–0.77), respectively. When including CA125 in the model, the performance in discriminating between stage II–IV OC and stage I OC and between stage II–IV OC ovarian metastasis was improved (AUC increased from 0.88 to 0.94, P = 0.01, and from 0.86 to 0.97, p = 0.01). Conclusions The IOTA ADNEX model has excellent performance in differentiating benign and malignant adnexal masses in the hands of nonexpert ultrasonographers with limited experience in China. In classifying different subtypes of ovarian cancers, the model has difficulty differentiating BOTs from stage I OC and BOTs from ovarian metastases.

Programmed cell death 1 ligand (PD-L1) blockade has been used therapeutically in the treatment of ovarian cancer, and potential combination treatment approaches are under investigation to improve the treatment response rate. The increased dependence on glutamine is widely observed in various type of tumors, including ovarian cancer. Kidney-type glutaminase (GLS), as one of the isotypes of glutaminase, is found to promote tumorigenesis. Here, we have demonstrated that the combined treatment with GLS inhibitor 968 and PD-L1 blockade enhances the immune response against ovarian cancer. Survival analysis using the Kaplan–Meier plotter dataset from ovarian cancer patients revealed that the expression level of GLS predicts poor survival and correlates with the immunosuppressive microenvironment of ovarian cancer. 968 inhibits the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells and enhances granzyme B secretion by CD8+ T cells as detected by XTT assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Furthermore, 968 enhances the apoptosis-inducing ability of CD8+ T cells toward cancer cells and improves the treatment effect of anti-PD-L1 in treating ovarian cancer as assessed by Annexin V apoptosis assay. In vivo studies demonstrated the prolonged overall survival upon combined treatment of 968 with anti-PD-L1 accompanied by increased granzyme B secretion by CD4+ and CD8+ T cells isolated from ovarian tumor xenografts. Additionally, 968 increases the infiltration of CD3+ T cells into tumors, possibly through enhancing the secretion of CXCL10 and CXCL11 by tumor cells. In conclusion, our findings provide a novel insight into ovarian cancer cells influence the immune system in the tumor microenvironment and highlight the potential clinical implication of combination of immune checkpoints with GLS inhibitor 968 in treating ovarian cancer.

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) are emerging as promising light emitters to be actively explored for high color purity and efficient light-emitting diodes. However, the most reported lead halide perovskite nanocrystal light-emitting diodes (PNCLEDs) encountered issues of emission line width broadening and operation voltage elevating caused by the quantum confinement effect. Here, we report a new type of PNCLED using large-size CsPbBr3 PNCs overly exceeding the Bohr exciton diameter, achieving ultranarrow emission line width and rapid brightness rise around the turn-on voltage. We adopt calcium-tributylphosphine oxide hybrid ligand passivation to produce highly dispersed large-size colloidal CsPbBr3 PNCs with a weak size confinement effect and also high photoluminescence quantum yield (∼85%). Utilizing these large-size PNCs as emitters, we manifest that the detrimental effects caused by the quantum confinement effect can be avoided in the device, thereby realizing the highest color purity in green PNCLED, with a narrow full width at half-maximum of 16.4 nm and a high corrected maximum external quantum efficiency of 17.85%. Moreover, the operation half-life time of the large-size PNCLED is 5-fold of that based on smaller-size PNCs. Our work provides a new avenue for improving the performance of PNCLEDs based on unconventional large-size effects.

This paper provides a new method to improve microwave absorption properties of ferromagnetic materials. A 2D artificial electromagnetic material is designed using a square combination of cross section resonator sub-unit cells, and then inserted into carbonyl iron powder layers to realize a broadband microwave absorber. Both the simulation and experiment results show that the absorber can realize the wideband and high efficiency absorption.

Coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs) are prominent during the acute Kawasaki disease (KD) episode and represent the major contributors to the long-term prognosis. Several meta-analysis and published scoring systems have identified hepatic dysfunction as an independent predictor of CAA risks. The medical records of 210 KD children were reviewed. Blood samples were collected from all subjects at 24 h pre-therapy and 48 h post-therapy, respectively. Liver function test (LFT) and inflammatory mediators were detected. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify the reliable biomarkers predicting whether CAAs existed or not in KD patients. 90.95% of KD patients had at least 1 abnormal LFT. Hypoalbuminemia was the most prevalent type of hepatic dysfunction, followed by elevated aspartate aminotransferase, low TP, low A/G and hyperbilirubinemia, respectively. The elevated inflammatory mediators (procalcitonin and C-reactive protein) and moderate dose of aspirin played a synthetic role in hepatic dysfunction secondary to KD. However, LFT presented no significant differences between infectious and noninfectious conditions. By a multivariate analysis, a lower albumin/globulin ratio (A/G, OR 13.50, 95% CI 3.944–46.23) served as an independent predictor of CAAs and had a sensitivity of 56.25%, and a specificity of 61.11% at a cutoff value of

Hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis is a progressive, debilitating disease often resulting in early-onset, life-impacting autonomic dysfunction. The effect of the RNAi therapeutic, patisiran, on autonomic neuropathy manifestations in patients with hATTR amyloidosis with polyneuropathy in the phase III APOLLO study is reported. Patients received patisiran 0.3 mg/kg intravenously (n = 148) or placebo (n = 77) once every 3 weeks for 18 months. Patisiran halted or reversed polyneuropathy and improved quality of life from baseline in the majority of patients. At baseline, patients in APOLLO had notable autonomic impairment, as demonstrated by the Composite Autonomic Symptom Score-31 (COMPASS-31) questionnaire and Norfolk Quality of Life-Diabetic Neuropathy (Norfolk QOL-DN) questionnaire autonomic neuropathy domain. At 18 months, patisiran improved autonomic neuropathy symptoms compared with placebo [COMPASS-31, least squares (LS) mean difference, - 7.5; 95% CI: - 11.9, - 3.2; Norfolk QOL-DN autonomic neuropathy domain, LS mean difference, - 1.1; - 1.8, - 0.5], nutritional status (modified body mass index, LS mean difference, 115.7; - 82.4, 149.0), and vasomotor function (postural blood pressure, LS mean difference, - 0.3; - 0.5, - 0.1). Patisiran treatment also led to improvement from baseline at 18 months for COMPASS-31 (LS mean change from baseline, - 5.3; 95% CI: - 7.9, - 2.7) and individual domains, orthostatic intolerance (- 4.6; - 6.3, - 2.9) and gastrointestinal symptoms (- 0.8; - 1.5, - 0.2). Rapid worsening of all study measures was observed with placebo, while patisiran treatment resulted in stable or improved scores compared with baseline. Patisiran demonstrates benefit across a range of burdensome autonomic neuropathy manifestations that deteriorate rapidly without early and continued treatment. Considerable attention has been drawn to the lead halide perovskites (LHPs) because of their outstanding optoelectronic characteristics. LHP nanosheets (NSs) grown from single crystalline lead halide possess advantages in device applications as they provide the possibility for control over morphology, composition, and crystallinity. Here, free-standing lead bromide (PbBr2) single-crystalline NSs with sizes up to one centimeter are synthesized from solution. These NSs can be converted to LHP while maintaining the NS morphology. We demonstrate that these perovskite NSs can be processed directly for fabrication of photodetector and laser arrays on a large scale. This strategy will allow high-yield synthesis of large-size perovskite NSs for functional devices in an integrated photonics platform.

This paper aims to discuss the features and development trends of China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library's (CASHL) internet-based document delivery service, examine the journal usage patterns of CASHL member libraries and determine the time range trends of documents requested by users. Ten years of the CASHL's document delivery service transaction data (about 860,000 items) were extracted, cleaned, integrated, and analysed. Journal use pattern is more decentralised and individualised. Request rates for older papers are continuing to increase. The different types of member libraries have large differences in terms of research requests and use.

Background In the last decade, incomplete Kawasaki disease (KD), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) non-response and coronary artery abnormalities (CAA) have experienced the increasing trends in China. In addition, the enhancement of pediatricians’ awareness may also raise the diagnostic rate of incomplete KD and stimulate more aggressive initial therapy in the acute episode of KD. Given this background, we hypothesize that the time option of IVIG treatment should be in parallel with peak time of systemic inflammation; either earlier or later IVIG treatment may affect the clinical classification, therapeutic responsiveness and CAA occurrence in KD patients. Therefore, the major objective of the present study is to identify whether the time option of IVIG treatment could be associated with the clinical classification, therapeutic responsiveness and CAA occurrence in the acute episode of KD. Materials and methods A total of 153 children with KD were recruited between July 2015 and May 2018. All patients received the standard therapy of KD, including a single infusion of IVIG (2 g/kg) and aspirin (30–50 mg/kg/d). Blood samples were collected from all subjects within 24 h pre-IVIG treatment, respectively. Echocardiography was performed during the period from 2 days to 14 days after IVIG treatment. Results (1) The clinical classification presented no significant heterogenicity among different treatment time (x 2 = 1.59, p > 0.05) (2) Eleven KD patients resisted to IVIG treatment and 7 of them (63.60%) received the initial IVIG dose on day 5 and 6. This study develops an improved failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) method using two-dimensional uncertain linguistic variables (2DULVs) and alternative queuing method (AQM). The 2DULVs are employed to represent the evaluations provided by FMEA team members on the weights of risk factors and the risk of failure modes in the form of pairwise comparisons. The two-dimensional uncertain linguistic best worst method (2DUL-BWM) is used to derive the weights of risk factors. The two-dimensional uncertain linguistic AQM (2DUL-AQM) is proposed for determining the risk ranking of the identified failure modes. Finally, the maintenance of a water treatment plant is presented as an example to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed FMEA method. By comparing its performance with those of other existing methods, the proposed FMEA is shown to be more advantageous in ranking the risk of failure modes.

Cotton is a globally important natural fiber and oilseed crop of crucial economic significance. Molecular breeding has become a dominant method of cotton cultivation because it allows for a shorter breeding period and directional selection of high quality genes. Patent data are key resources and are the core competitiveness of agricultural development, as the world's largest and most reliable source of technical information. However, little attention has been paid to patent analysis of cotton molecular breeding. This study uses bibliometric analysis methodology and technical classification indexing to reveal global development trends of cotton molecular breeding, based on patents by retrieval methods and expert screening. The annual number of patents, the life-cycle of patent-based technology, patent portfolios of primary countries, and main patentees, as well as technical distribution of patents, were analyzed in this study. In addition, this study put emphasis on the comparative analysis of two important patentees through patent roadmaps based on the relationship among patent citations. Finally, in order to understand the trend of new molecular breeding technology, patents related to clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR), RNA interference (RNAi), and gene chip were also analyzed, all of which apply to cotton but also to other crops. Results in this paper can provide references for cotton molecular breeding researchers and relevant management departments.

Background:. High-frequency irreversible electroporation (H-FIRE) is a novel, next-generation nanoknife technology with the advantage of relieving irreversible electroporation (IRE)-induced muscle contractions. However, the difference between IRE and H-FIRE with distinct ablation parameters was not clearly defined. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of the two treatments in vivo. Methods:. Ten Bama miniature swine were divided into two group: five in the 1-day group and five in the 7-day group. The efficacy of IRE and H-FIRE ablation was compared by volume transfer constant (Krans), rate constant (Kep) and extravascular extracellular volume fraction (Ve) value of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), size of the ablation zone, and histologic analysis. Each animal underwent the IRE and H-FIRE. Temperatures of the electrodes were measured during ablation. DCE-MRI images were obtained 1, 4, and 7 days after ablation in the 7-day group. All animals in the two groups were euthanized 1 day or 7 days after ablation, and subsequently, IRE and H-FIRE treated liver tissues were collected for histological examination. Student's t test or Mann-Whitney U test was applied for comparing any two groups. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test and Welch's ANOVA test followed by Holm-Sidak's multiple comparisons test, one-way ANOVA with repeated measures followed by Bonferroni test, or Kruskal-Wallis H test followed by Dunn's multiple comparison test was used for multiple group comparisons and post hoc analyses. Pearson correlation coefficient test was conducted to analyze the relationship between two variables. Results:. Higher Ve was seen in IRE zone than in H-FIRE zone (0.14 ± 0.02 vs. 0.08 ± 0.05, t = 2.408, P = 0.043) on day 4, but no significant difference was seen in Ktrans or Kep between IRE and H-FIRE zones at all time points (all P > 0.05). For IRE zone, the greatest Ktrans was seen on day 7, which was significantly higher than that on day 1 (P = 0.033). The ablation zone size of H-FIRE was significantly larger than IRE 1 day (4.74 ± 0.88 cm2vs. 3.20 ± 0.77 cm2, t = 3.241, P = 0.009) and 4 days (2.22 ± 0.83 cm2vs. 1.30 ± 0.50 cm2, t = 2.343, P = 0.041) after treatment. Apoptotic index (0.05 ± 0.02 vs. 0.73 ± 0.06 vs. 0.68 ± 0.07, F = 241.300, P 0.05). Electrode temperature variations were not significantly different between the two zones (18.00 ± 3.77°C vs. 16.20 ± 7.45°C, t = 0.682, P = 0.504). The Ktrans value (r = 0.940, P = 0.017) and the Kep value (r = 0.895, P = 0.040) of the H-FIRE zone were positively correlated with the number of hepatocytes in the ablation zone. Conclusions:. H-FIRE showed a comparable ablation effect to IRE. DCE-MRI has the potential to monitor the changes of H-FIRE ablation zone.

Background The primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) are a family of highly malignant tumors with a multidirectional differential potential. The tumors are characterized by aggressive small round tumor cells that originate from the spinal cord of the central and sympathetic nervous systems. Cases involving the pericardium are extremely rare. Herein, we present a case of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET) that originated in the pericardium. Case presentation A 23-year-old woman presented with cough and progressive dyspnea for 1 month, followed by eyelid and facial edema for 10 days, without any apparent cause. Significantly elevated tumor markers were detected in her blood. A cardiac ultrasound revealed a 74 mm × 61 mm spherical mass that was attached to the left pericardium, as well as massive pericardial effusion. Positron emission tomography-CT (PET-CT) showed focal hypermetabolism in the left pericardium. Via histopathology and immunohistochemistry, the spherical mass was identified as PNETS. The patient was successfully treated with a combination of surgical resection via thoracotomy and postoperative chemotherapy, and she was disease-free for 7 years at follow-up. Unfortunately, at 7 years after the treatment, the patient’s pPNET recurred. Positron emission tomography-MRI (PET-MRI) and 64-slice coronary CTA revealed that the aorta and multiple coronary arteries were involved. Subsequently, the patient refused a heart transplant and voluntarily left the hospital. Conclusions This paper reports on a rare and recurrent case of PNET in the parietal pericardium. With respect to the different biologic characteristics and prognoses of pPNETs (compared to other known pericardium tumors), it is essential to consider this entity as a differential diagnosis in pericardium tumors.

To investigate the clinicopathological features and outcomes of primary IgA nephropathy with nephrotic-range proteinuria in Chinese children. Patients with biopsy-proven IgA nephropathy and nephrotic-range proteinuria between January 2011 and December 2017 were included, and their proteinuria and renal function were followed up. A total of 90 patients were enrolled, and 21.1% (19/90) of them had decreased renal function at diagnosis. Complete remission, partial remission, and no response of proteinuria occurred in 88.6% (70/79), 10.1% (8/79), and 1.3% (1/79), respectively, of the 79 patients who were followed up for 6 to 104 months. 73.7% (14/19) of the patients with decreased renal function at diagnosis recovered to normal level while 26.3% (5/19) of them did not recover or progressed to end-stage renal disease. Two patients with normal renal function at diagnosis progressed to renal insufficiency during follow-up period. By multivariate analysis, the risk for renal function deterioration was significantly higher in the partial remission and no response groups than in the complete remission group. Remission of proteinuria was important for improving renal prognosis in children with IgA nephropathy and nephrotic-range proteinuria. The outcomes for pediatric patients appeared to be better than that reported in adults.

Fibrosis is caused by chronic tissue injury and characterized by the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) that ultimately results in organ failure and death. Owing to lacking of effective treatment against tissue fibrosis, it causes a high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Thus, it is of great importance to find an effective therapy strategy for the treatment of fibrosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play vital roles in many biological processes by targeting downstream genes. Numerous studies demonstrated that miRNAs served as biomarkers of various diseases, suggesting the potential therapeutic targets for diseases. It was recently reported that miRNAs played an important role in the development of organ fibrosis, which showed a promising prospect against fibrosis by targeting intervention. Here, we summarize the roles of miRNAs in the process of organ fibrosis, including liver, lung, heart and kidney, and highlight miRNAs being novel therapeutic targets for organ fibrosis.

Background Some studies have stated that intrauterine insemination (IUI) with controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) might increase the pregnancy rate, while others suggest that IUI in the natural cycle (NC) should be the first line of treatment. It remains unclear whether it is necessary to use COS at the same time when IUI is applied to treat isolated male factor infertility. Thus, we aimed to investigate efficacy of IUI with COS for isolated male factor infertility. Methods A total of 601 IUI cycles from 307 couples who sought medical care for isolated male factor infertility between January 2010 and February 2020 were divided into two groups: NC-IUI and COS-IUI. The COS-IUI group was further divided into two subgroups according to the number of pre-ovulatory follicles on the day of HCG: cycles with monofollicular development (one follicle group) and cycles with at least two pre-ovulatory follicles (≥ 2 follicles group). The IUI outcomes, including clinical pregnancy, live birth, spontaneous abortion, ectopic pregnancy, and multiple pregnancy rates were compared. Results The clinical pregnancy, live birth, spontaneous abortion, and ectopic pregnancy rates were comparable between the NC-IUI and COS-IUI group. Similar results were also observed among the NC-IUI, one follicle, and ≥ 2 follicles groups. However, with respect to the multiple pregnancy rate, a trend toward higher multiple pregnancy rate was observed in the COS-IUI group compared to the NC-IUI group (8.7% vs. 0, P = 0.091), and a significant difference was found between the NC-IUI and ≥ 2 follicles group (0 vs. 16.7%, P = 0.033). Conclusion In COS cycles, especially in those with at least two pre-ovulatory follicles, the multiple pregnancy rate increased without a substantial gain in overall pregnancy rate; thus, COS should not be preferred in IUI for isolated male factor infertility. If COS is required, one stimulated follicle and one healthy baby should be the goal considering the safety of both mothers and foetuses.

Objective. To determine the key objectives of WFAS “Technical Specifications of Acupuncture and Moxibustion: General Rules for the Drafting” (hereinafter referred to as General Rules). Methods. From the medical institutions, colleges, and scientific research organizations at major levels in China and overseas, leading researchers and experts in the field of acupuncture-moxibustion standardization, as well as some experienced foreign specialists in acupuncture-moxibustion, were selected as the respondents. The questionnaire was prepared by using the website of Questionnaire Star, and 60 links of the questionnaire were sent out through e-mail. Excel was used to set up the database and conduct statistical analysis. Results. Fifty-one valid questionnaires were collected with effective recovery rate of 85%, involving 9 countries (China, South Korea, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, United States, and Canada) from 3 continents. Most experts agreed with us on the target people, structural elements, and text structure proposed in General Rules and held that the General Rules should emphasize the safety and international applicability and should stipulate in details the common problems (contraindications, indications, taboo crowd, target people, therapeutic effects) of various techniques and the specific contents of technical operation (manipulating techniques, selection of patient’s body position and treated areas, disinfection and environmental requirements, selection of acupuncture-moxibustion instruments, cautions, needle retention time, treatment frequency, precise location of the acupoints, treatment course) in order to enhance the practicality and operability. Conclusion. The key objectives of General Rules mainly include target people, structural elements, text structure, safety requirements, common technical problems of acupuncture-moxibustion, and specific details of technical manipulations.

Optoelectronic synapses integrating synaptic and optical-sensing functions exhibit large advantages in neuromorphic computing for visual information processing and complex learning, recognition, and memory in an energy-efficient way. However, electric stimulation is still essential for existing optoelectronic synapses to realize bidirectional weight-updating, restricting the processing speed, bandwidth, and integration density of the devices. Herein, a two-terminal optical synapse based on a wafer-scale pyrenyl graphdiyne/graphene/PbS quantum dot heterostructure is proposed that can emulate both the excitatory and inhibitory synaptic behaviors in an optical pathway. The simple device architecture and low-dimensional features of the heterostructure endow the optical synapse with robust flexibility for wearable electronics. This optical synapse features a linear and symmetric conductance-update trajectory with numerous conductance states and low noise, which facilitates the demonstration of accurate and effective pattern recognition with a strong fault-tolerant capability even at bending states. A series of logic functions and associative learning capabilities have been demonstrated by the optical synapses in optical pathways, significantly enhancing the information processing capability for neuromorphic computing. Moreover, an integrated visible information sensing memory processing system based on the optical synapse array is constructed to perform real-time detection, in situ image memorization, and distinction tasks. This work is an important step toward the development of optogenetics-inspired neuromorphic computing and adaptive parallel processing networks for wearable electronics.

The vertical aerosol extinction coefficient profile is the key to evaluating the aerosol radiation effect. In addition, it is also the premise of indirect inversion of P M 2.5 concentration from the lidar signal. A novel lidar system combining tripe charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras and backscatter lidar is proposed to retrieve accurately the aerosol extinction coefficient. The relative humidity segmentation method is used to convert the aerosol extinction coefficient into P M 2.5 concentrations. The results show that the combination of triple CCDs and backscatter lidar can obtain a wider-range extinction coefficient profile. The variation trend of fitted P M 2.5 concentrations and P M 2.5 concentrations measured by the in situ instrument show a high correlation. The correlation coefficient reaches 0.850.

Background/Introduction Hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis is a progressive, life-threatening disease; the majority of patients develop a mixed phenotype of polyneuropathy and cardiomyopathy. Patisiran halted or reversed polyneuropathy and improved quality of life in the Phase 3 (APOLLO) study. In a prespecified cardiac subpopulation of APOLLO, patisiran also improved cardiac structure and function versus placebo. Purpose To describe the long-term comprehensive, integrated safety data from the patisiran clinical development program in patients with hATTR amyloidosis with polyneuropathy. Methods Safety data as of October 7, 2019 from the Phase 2 Open-Label Extension (OLE) (NCT01961921), Phase 3 APOLLO (NCT01960348), and ongoing Global OLE (NCT02510261) studies were analysed. Results Across the three studies, 224 patients received patisiran for a mean (range) of 43.6 (0.7–71.7) months, with a cumulative 813.9 patient-years of exposure; 105 (46.9%) patients received patisiran for ≥4 years and 35 (15.6%) patients received patisiran for ≥5 years. In this cohort, 149 (66.5%) had medical histories of cardiac disorders per MedDRA System Organ Class (SOC), which may be reflective of a mixed phenotype in some patients. A total of 222 (99.1%) patients experienced at least one adverse event (AE) and 132 (58.9%) patients experienced at least one serious AE. AEs considered to be related to patisiran and occurring in >5% of patients included infusion-related reactions (IRRs) (25.9%) and diarrhoea (6.3%). Cardiac AEs occurring in >5% of patients included atrial fibrillation (10.7%) and cardiac failure (7.6%). Amongst all patients, the exposure-adjusted mortality rate was 4.3 deaths per 100 patient-years. Conclusions Patients with hATTR amyloidosis with polyneuropathy in the patisiran clinical development program represent those with the longest treatment with an RNAi therapeutic, including more than 15% of patients receiving patisiran for ≥5 years. Background Accurate classification of coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs) is essential for clinical decision-making and long-term management in Kawasaki disease (KD) patients. To date, there are several echocardiographic criteria of CAA assessment. Materials and methods The Japanese Ministry of Health (JMH) criteria and the Z-score criteria from 2004 American Heart Association guidelines were adopted and their detective efficacies for CAAs were compared in 251 Chinese patients with KD Z scores were calculated by 6 published methods. Results According to the JMH criteria, 19 (7.57%) KD patients were classified as CAAs during the acute KD episode. However, the detective number of CAAs was highest and had a 0.68-fold increase by the Dallaire et al method with a Z-score cut point of ≥2.5 as compared with the JMH criteria; in contrast, more than 78.95% of patients with CAAs identified by the JMH criteria had a coronary artery Z score ≥2.5. All 6 different Z-score methods had satisfactory accuracies with a range from 93.23% to 97.61% in screening CAAs. For the 19 patients with CAAs identified by the JMH criteria, their Z scores presented the widest variation calculated by the McCrindle et al method. Conclusions The JMH criteria underestimate the prevalence of CAAs as compared with the Z-score criteria. Quantitative assessment of coronary artery luminal dimensions, normalized as Z scores adjusted for body surface, should be recommended. The larger coronary artery luminal dimensions vary, the more heterogeneous Z scores calculated by different methods have.

Background：Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is a common autoimmune vasculitis in childhood. Although the detailed etiology of HSP remains unknown, several triggers, especially for infectious agents, have been proved to be associated with HSP onset. Case presentation: In the present report, we describe an unusual patient who suffered from HSP and incomplete lupus erythematosus (ILE) on day 8 after scabies, mainly based on nonthrombocytopenic purpura, abdominal pain, medium proteinuria, positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) and skin scrapings. A course of pulse methylprednisolone (10mg/kg/day) was administered for 6 days, followed by oral prednisone (1mg/kg/day). On day 18, the purpuric rashes almost disappeared, whereas medium proteinuria still existed. In this circumstance, a renal biopsy was performed with the informed consent of the parents. According to the criteria proposed by the International Study of Kidney Disease in Children, this patient was classified as class IIIb. The immunofluorescence microscopy revealed granular deposits of IgA, IgM and C3 in the glomerular mesangium. His proteinuria gradually decreased after treatment of corticosteroids plus mycophenolate mofetil (20mg/kg/day). Conclusions: However, it should be noted that corticosteroids and immunosuppressors may increase the relapse risk of scabies, therefore this patient should be followed up carefully after discharging from our department.

Background: Patisiran, an RNA interference therapeutic, has demonstrated robust reduction of wild-type and mutant transthyretin protein and was able to improve polyneuropathy and quality of life following 18 months of treatment in patients with hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis.In this 24-month Phase II open-label extension study, we evaluated the effects of patisiran treatment (0.3 mg/kg intravenously every 3 weeks) on safety, serum transthyretin levels, and clinical parameters. Efficacy assessments included modified Neuropathy Impairment Score +7 (mNIS+7) and multiple disease-relevant measures. Cardiac assessments were performed in a pre-specified cardiac subgroup. Results: Twenty-seven patients entered this study, including 12 (44%) with ambulation difficulties due to their neuropathy and 11 (41%) who met criteria for the cardiac subgroup. During treatment, the majority of adverse events were mild/moderate in severity; there were no drug-related adverse events leading to treatment discontinuation. The most common drug-related adverse events were flushing and infusion-related reactions (22% each). Patisiran resulted in rapid, robust (similar to 82%), and sustained reduction of mean transthyretin levels over 24 months. A mean 6.95-point decrease (improvement) in mNIS+7 from baseline was observed at 24 months. Patisiran's impact on mNIS+7 was irrespective of concomitant tafamidis or diflunisal use, sex, or age. Clinical assessments of motor function, autonomic symptoms, disease stage, and quality of life remained stable over 24 months. No significant changes were observed for echocardiographic measures or cardiac biomarkers in the cardiac subgroup. Exploratory analyses demonstrated improvements in nerve-fiber density with corresponding reductions in amyloid burden observed in skin biopsies over 24 months. Graphdiyne is a new two-dimensional carbon allotrope with many attractive properties and has been widely used in various applications. However, the synthesis of large-area, high-quality, and ultrathin (especially monolayer) graphdiyne and its analogues remains a challenge, hindering its application in optoelectronic devices. Here, a wafer-scale monolayer pyrenyl graphdiyne (Pyr-GDY) film is obtained on hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) via a van der Waals epitaxial strategy, and top-floating-gated multibit nonvolatile optoelectronic memory based on Pyr-GDY/hBN/graphene is constructed, using Pyr-GDY as a photoresponsive top-floating gate. Benefiting from the excellent charge trapping capability and strong absorption of the graphdiyne film, as well as the top-floating-gated structure and the ultrathin hBN film used in the device, the optoelectronic memory exhibits high storage performance and robust reliability. A huge difference in the current between the programmed and erased states (>26 μA μm-1 at Vds = 0.1 V) and a prolonged retention time (>105 s) enable the device to achieve multibit storage, for which eight and nine distinct storage levels (3-bit) are obtained by applying periodic gate voltages and optical pulses in the programming and erasing processes, respectively. This work provides an important step toward realizing versatile graphdiyne-based optoelectronic devices in the future.

Background The effects of C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-23 appear to oppose each other during the process of bone formation, whereas few studies exist on the interaction between CNP and FGF-23. The main objective of the present study is to probe whether CNP is directly responsible for the regulation of osteoblast or via antagonizing FGF-23. Methods Osteoblasts were cultured in the absence or presence of CNP (0, 10, and 100 pmol/L) for 24 h, 48 h and 72 h, respectively. Results The findings of the present study indicated that: (1) CNP significantly stimulated osteoblastic proliferation and collagen (Col)-X expression; (2) both osteoblastic (osteocalcin, procollagen type I carboxy-terminal propeptide, total alkaline phosphatase and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase) and osteolytic (tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase and cross-linked carboxyterminal telopeptide of type I collagen) bone turnover biomarkers were up-regulated by CNP in osteoblasts; (3) FGF-23 mRNA and protein were significantly down-regulated at 24 h by CNP in osteoblasts, but the expression of FGF receptor-1/Klotho had no significant change. Conclusions CNP stimulates osteoblastic proliferation and Col-X expression via the down-regulation of FGF-23 possibly in vitro. However, the specific mechanisms of the interaction between CNP and FGF-23 in osteoblasts are still unclear according to our findings. A further study on osteoblasts cultured with CNP and FGF-23 inhibitor will be undertaken in our laboratory.

BackgroundMTH1 and NUDT5 effectively degrade nucleotides containing 8-oxoguanine. MTH1 and NUDT5 have been linked to the malignancy of multiple cancers. However, their functions in tumor growth and metastasis in esophageal squamous carcinoma (ESCC) remain obscure. Our present study aims to explore their prognostic value in ESCC and investigate their function in MTH1 or NUDT5-knockout tumor cells.MethodsMTH1 and NUDT5 protein expression in ESCC adjacent normal tissues and tumor tissues was examined by immunohistochemistry staining. Kaplan–Meier curves were used to assess the association between their expression and overall survival (OS) in ESCC patients. Univariate and Multivariate Cox regression analyses were generated to determine the correlation between these protein expression and OS of ESCC patients. Protein expression in ESCC cell lines were measured by Western blotting. To explore the potential effects of the MTH1 and NUDT5 protein in ESCC, cell models with MTH1 or NUDT5 depletion were established. CCK-8, cell cycle, Western blotting, migration and invasion assays were performed.ResultsOur present study demonstrated that the levels of MTH1 and NUDT5 were upregulated in ESCC cell lines and ESCC tissues, the expression of MTH1 and NUDT5 in ESCC tissues was significantly higher than in adjacent non-tumorous, and higher levels of MTH1 and NUDT5 predicted a worse prognosis in patients with ESCC. MTH1 and NUDT5 are novel biomarkers of the progression of ESCC and a poor prognosis. We also found for the first time that the high expression of NUDT5 independently predicted lower OS in patients with ESCC (hazard ratio (HR) 1.751; 95% confidence interval (CI) [1.056–2.903];p= 0.030). In addition, the depletion of MTH1 and NUDT5 strongly suppressed the proliferation of ESCC cells and significantly delayed the G1 phase of the cell cycle. Furthermore, we found that MTH1 and NUDT5 silencing inhibited epithelial–mesenchymal transition mainly by the MAPK/MEK/ERK dependent pathway, which in turn significantly decreased the cell migration and invasion of ESCC cells. Our results suggested that the overexpression of MTH1 and NUDT5 is probably involved in the tumor development and poor prognosis of ESCC.

Isochromosome 20q- (i(20q-)), as a rare reproducible chromosomal anomaly formed on the basis of 20q-, has not been commonly reported. Due to the rarity of this karyotypic anomaly, the bone marrow morphological characteristics of the patients with i(20q-) have not been clarified until now. In this study, the bone marrow cell morphology from MDS patients with isolated i(20q-), isolated 20q-, and normal karyotype was retrospectively compared and statistically analyzed. Background: O-GlcNAcylation is a highly dynamic post-translational modification that plays a key role in regulating phosphorylation of protein and cell survival. The proteins O-GlcNAcylation level is regulated dynamically by O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) and β-N-acetylglucosaminidase (O-GlcNAcase, OGA). Although previous studies have suggested the role of O-GlcNAcylation in neurodegenerative diseases, the mechanism of O-GlcNAcylation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains unclear. Methods: The decrease of O-GlcNAcylation by alloxan, an OGT inhibitor, and increase by NAG-thiazolines (NAG-Ae), an O-GlcNAcase inhibitor were tested to investigate the effects of O-GlcNAc alteration on AD like neurodegeneration in SK-N-SH cells. Results: The level of O-GlcNAcylation was decreased in alloxan treated cells and increased in NAG-Ae treated cells. Meanwhile, it was observed that both abnormal phosphorylation of NFs in cell bodies and apoptosis induced by alloxan treatment can be resisted by pretreatment or simultaneous treatment with appropriate NAG-Ae. Conclusion: These results demonstrated that increasing O-GlcNAc with NAG-Ae protected AD like neurodegeneration from NFs hyperphosphorylation and the cell loss, suggesting the role of O-GlcNAc in the pathogenesis and therapy of AD.

To observe the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi) in recovering the neurological function and treating depression state in post-stroke depression patients, together with a 12-month follow-up. A total of 105 eligible post-stroke depression patients were randomized into an acupuncture plus Tai Ji group (53 cases) and a control group (52 cases) based on their visiting sequence. The patients all received routine treatment and rehabilitation training for stroke. In addition, the control group was given oral administration of citalopram hydrobromide tablets, 1 month as a course of treatment, for 3 courses in total. Meanwhile, the acupuncture plus Tai Ji group received acupuncture and practiced Tai Ji Quan, for 1 month and 12 months respectively. Before the intervention, after 1-month intervention and 12 months later, the National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS), Barthel index (BI) and Hamilton depression rating scale (HAMD) were adopted for efficacy evaluation. All‐inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) have emerged as potential candidates for next‐generation light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). However, high trap states on the surface of CsPbX3 NCs caused by ionic nature and dynamic bonding of organic ligands limit the performance of CsPbX3 NCs‐based LEDs. Herein, a microemulsion (ME)‐modified strategy to decorate CsPbBr3 NC cores with inorganic PbWO4 is developed. It is demonstrated that ME‐assisted modification plays a crucial role in bridging the WO42− anion solution and the CsPbBr3 NC suspension. Compared with pristine CsPbBr3 NCs, the obtained PbWO4‐modified NCs exhibit improved photoluminescence efficiency. The corresponding NC films also show enhanced stability at elevated temperature and also in humid atmosphere. Consequently, the PbWO4‐modified NCs‐based LED exhibits a pronounced improvement of electroluminescence with an external quantum efficiency from 0.2% to 5.7% and twofold enhancement of the operational lifetime through PbWO4 passivation in comparison with that of pristine CsPbBr3 NCs‐based LED. These results show a promising pathway by ME‐induced anionic modification for high‐performance and stable LEDs based on perovskite NCs.

Introduction: Hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis is a progressive, life- threatening disease. The efficacy and safety of patisiran has been demonstrated in Phase 3 (APOLLO) and Phase 2 Open-Label Extension (OLE) studies in patients with hATTR amyloidosis with polyneuropathy. Objective: To describe interim 24-month efficacy and safety analyses of the ongoing Global OLE study. Methods: International OLE study (NCT02510261) in eligible patients who completed parent studies, including APOLLO patients randomized to placebo (APOLLO/placebo, n=49) or patisiran (APOLLO/patisiran, n=137) and Phase 2 OLE patients (n=25). Results: As of 10/07/2019, 178/211 patients had 24-month assessments. Safety profile remained consistent with previous studies. After 24 months of additional patisiran treatment in the OLE, durable improvement was seen for mNIS+7 (mean change [SEM]) in APOLLO/patisiran (-4.9 [2.1]) and Phase 2 OLE (-5.9 [2.1]) groups vs. parent study baselines. Norfolk QOL-DN continued to show durable improvement in APOLLO/patisiran patients (-2.4 [2.4]) following additional 24- months treatment. In the Global OLE, APOLLO/placebo patients experienced halting of disease progression and quality of life (QOL) improvement compared to Global OLE baseline after 24 months of patisiran (mNIS+7: +0.1 [3.3], Norfolk QOL-DN: -4.1 [3.3]), although they had progressed relative to APOLLO baseline (mNIS+7: +26.3 [5.0], Norfolk QOL-DN: +15.8 [4.5]) given progression while on placebo in APOLLO. Conclusion: Patients with long-term exposure to patisiran continue to demonstrate durability of efficacy. Despite marked progression on placebo during APOLLO, previously untreated patients continue to exhibit halting of disease progression and QOL improvement following 24 months of patisiran. Patisiran continues to demonstrate a positive benefit:risk profile.

Superior task scheduling scheme is able to improve the performance in achieving shorter task completion time in multi-processor computing system. Large scale applications are generally modelled as direct acyclic graph (DAG) to be processed efficiently in parallel. To solve DAG task scheduling problem (DAG-SP) with the criterion of minimizing makespan, this paper proposes an estimation of distribution algorithm (EDA) enhanced by the path relinking. An efficient hybrid scheme integrating list scheduling heuristics is designed to take advantage of the knowledge of existing works. In addition, to describe the relative position relationships between the task pairs, a specific probability model is built and the task processing permutations are produced by sampling such a model. To enhance the exploitation of EDA, a path relinking based knowledge is used to design the local search method. Simulation experiments are carried out with both benchmark datasets and real-world graphs, where the comparative results show that the above designs can improve the performance effectively. Moreover, the numerical comparisons show that the proposed algorithm performs significantly better than the existing heuristics and evolutionary algorithms.
