With the development of endoscopic technique, Caldwell-Luc approach has more wide applications and becomes a common method of pterygopalatine fossa (PPF) surgery. Few data can be used in this approach to avoid injuring the vessels and nerves within this area. In this study, the authors used computed tomography to get the coordinates of inferior orbital fissure, foramen rotundum, sphenopalatine foramen, internal opening of pterygoid canal, the strangulation of PPF, and the greater palatine foramen with canine fossa as the origin. Parameters of 60 patients (120 observations) between 35 and 55 years who have no experience of trauma or surgery before were involved in this study. The data were analyzed by SPSS, statistical software with the comparison between sexes and sides. After calculating the relative distances and angles between these points and canine fossa, the authors get the proportions of the upper part of PPF, and the pterygopalatine canal to PPF, respectively. The authors finally got the safety surgical range. The results are meaningful to safety in surgery and complication avoidance, which can be great references in clinical applications.

Estimating the head pose is still a unique challenge for computer vision system. Previous methods at solving this problem have often proposed solutions formulated in a classification setting. In this paper, we formulate pose estimation as a regression problem to achieve robustness. We propose to use gradient orientation histograms based random regression forests for the task. Firstly, each sample image is divided into overlapped patches, and direction-sensitive features of patches are extracted. Then we train a random regression forest on these patches. Experiments are carried out on public available database, and the result shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms some other approaches in both accuracy and computational efficiency.

In the traditional project of industry control, the field operator is the only man who watches production condition at the production spot. Enterprise administers cannot obtain real-time production status and make real-time decision if they dont reach the production spot. Because of the development of Embedded Web Server such status is being changed. The remote monitor and control mode based on Embedded Web Server provides complete exact real-time information for managers, and makes it possible to make a decision in real time. In the paper, the design and implements of Embedded Web Server are presented and the key realization technology of it is described in detail. EWS (Embedded Web Server) will effectively lower system operating cost and improve maintaining efficiency, which has wide application prospect and popularization value in industrial control systems.

Taiwan government has recently promoted “Plan for Building Island of Exercise” which has leaded the trend of exercises and increased the needs of various healthcare and fitness products. Prior researches have also pointed out that listening to music with different tempos while exercising apparently affects heart rate, oxygen consumption, breathing rate and other physiological parameters. Among the physiological parameters, heart rate (HR) best represents the current body status while heart rate recovery (HRR) can also represent the physical fitness condition since HRR can be used to predict death risk.

With the development of smart grid, the requirements of high speed, low delay and better coverage have motivated a electric power wireless network that bridge the communication gaps between the transmission system and the load. In this paper, we introduce a new electric power wireless communication network, and give a general overview of studies on the major characters of communication such as wide coverage, a lot of measurement points in distribution networks as well. In order to improve the communication performance, the paper proposes a modified proportional fair algorithm, which allocates the radio resources by introducing a Quality-of-Service (QoS) scale factor. By comparing with the proportional fair algorithm, we get the conclusion that the modified algorithm is more suitable for the electric power wireless private network.

For the stereo matching problem in the non-texture, occluded and depth discontinuity regions, a new stereo matching algorithm that based on the adaptive support-weight of Graph Cuts is proposed. It can reduce the matching error in the depth discontinuity and non-texture regions by the single adaptive support-weight matching methods. The occlusion and smoothness penalty is considered by building the energy function. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve more precise and reliability matching.

Concrete is a mixture of the cementing material, aggregate and water in a certain proportion and is the most main materials of the civil engineering materials. It is difficult to make modeling for a highly complex material. The concrete rebound value with wide randomness is a dependent variable, while the compressive strength value with narrow randomness is an independent variable. This paper aimed to show possible applicability of artificial neural networks (ANN) to predict the compressive strength. Back propagation neural networks (BPNN) model is constructed trained and tested using the available test data of 108 different concrete specimens. The data of input parameters used in BPNN model were covered the ratio of water to cement, fine aggregate ratio, coarse aggregates, mean value of test area of rebound method measurement. The mean absolute percentage error was less then 10.19% for compressive strength. The results showed that ANNs was good at as a feasible tool for predicting compressive strength.

A high-repetition-rate, doubly-resonant, 700-2000-nm continuously-tunable optical-parametric-amplifier with 50% conversion efficiency was demonstrated. The pump/seed were provided by second-harmonic-generation/supercontinuum from the same modelocked fiber laser. This low-pulse-energy, high-average-power source is useful for biomedical applications.

In this paper, a novel blind digital image watermarking scheme in contour let domain with singular value decomposition is proposed. In contrast to traditional methods where the watermark bits are embedded directly on the contourlet transform coefficients, the proposed scheme is based on watermark bits embedding on the singular value of the selected blocks within lowpass subband of the original gray image contourlet transform. Experimental results demonstrate that the quality of watermarked image is robust against attacks such as JPEG compression, low pass filtering, noise addition, scaling and cropping. Watermark extraction is efficient and blind in the sense only quantization strategies but not the original image is required.

In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid DWT-DCT transform watermarking scheme. The original visually meaningful binary watermark image is preprocessed by using extended Arnold transform. The secret watermark bits are embedded on the singular values of the blocks within low frequency subband in host image hybrid DWT-DCT transform. To embed watermark imperceptibly, robustly and securely, we model the adaptive quantization parameters by considering the human visual system (HVS)characteristics. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is robust to variety of attacks.Watermark extraction is efficient and blind in the sense only quantization strategies but not the host image is required.

We have demonstrated a 0.7 microm - 1.9 microm wavelength-tunable light source based on a single-pass optical parametric amplification (OPA) in a multiperiod magnesium oxide-doped periodically poled lithium niobate crystal. The OPA pump was a frequency-doubled ultrafast ytterbium-doped fiber oscillator, and the residual 1040 nm laser power after frequency doubling was recycled to generate a supercontinuum seeding source. Compared with conventional OPAs, this system is free from timing jitter between the pump laser and the seeding source. Over 50% conversion efficiency was obtained with 10 nJ pump energy. Combined with a 50 MHz repetition rate, this versatile source is ideal for biomedical and spectroscopic applications.
